Coach Mike McDaniel meets with the media after #MIAvsCAR | Miami Dolphins
identify as the issues in gun defense in this game. Um well I think the issue uh you know uh I can’t point anywhere but um directly at at preparation and how we execute stuff which ultimately like I look at um on me. I thought you know we um had a a good plan thought we got some stuff fixed. We’ve known the issues we’ve had and we uh we thought that we’ve, you know, were prepared for this and clearly we weren’t like you get I think we were outgained um 200 yards um in in the run game um collectively from the two uh uh uh sides of the ball. That is not good enough. You’ll rarely win if ever. Um we had a shot because we were plus two. Um but um bottom line is uh that on top of um you you have critical uh uh mistakes um at critical points in the game whether they’re uh penalties or um you know the the critical situation um mas where we’re giving up uh I think that there’s a fourth down and the last touchdown. Um so bottom line is uh that is not um good enough. We are a much better team than um letting a 170 lead eviscerate. Um so we will be extremely focused on getting that stuff corrected um immediately uh because we have no time to waste. Plays instead of hover was that any factor in this? Yeah, I mean apparently it didn’t matter. Uh and and I think that’s something that in the National Football League if if you uh expose yourself and you can’t we can’t get it right um during the game um they’re going to continue to uh uh do the uh least uh risky thing and you you can’t um yeah, we we it it’s not how you win football games in this league. So um we have to figure that out. um immediately and that’ll start on the plane and move into tomorrow um and throughout the week so we can be ready uh to play a Chargers team that will um see the tape and um go into the game trying to run run it just like they did. Mike, you you were able to um be able to get some stuff going in the middle of the field with Waller down and then uh Julian Hill over that and then and then that evaporated and then you go five punts in a row. What what what changed? What’s what um well I think um you know anytime you uh have any productivity um in this league uh they they make adjustments as well. Um you know the the critical things were we were in a ton of third and longs um because we uh got zero or no production um you know uh on the run opportunities. you’re trying to um you know be balanced as as you can. Um you’re trying to uh understand or you know understanding that um if they know you’re going to pass every play uh you probably won’t have production that way. Um so we got no rhythm. Um, I think we got a couple first downs in that whole uh uh collection of time, but the main thing was they just uh um said uh we’re going to stop your run game with our front and they did. So, um they committed everybody else to um the back end to the pass. And um unless you’re going to uh take 50/50 ops on uh uh receptions versus um uh uh pick, you know, that’s not a good idea. You have to establish stuff on the on the line of scrimmage. And you know, um clearly uh whatever whatever we’re doing, I could have done um a better job. Uh you know, any any play that I would have picked other than the ones that I was calling, I guess. um stand a chance to to be productive, but um you’re not gonna get far if you um you can’t uh establish a line of scrimmage on the other side of the ball. Um rush for 240 some odd yards. Uh running backs run for 200 yards. Um took a lot of time off the clock and although they were punting and stuff, but it all affected absolutely that was a probably the biggest effect absolutely this football game. No, I think you um you hit the nail on the head. You uh uh we had time of possession in our favor in the first half and absolutely did not have it in the in the second. Um and you know, I think that is something that at any any game during the course of the season um can go that way if you allow it. So, you can’t you you can’t um try to win football games and make mistakes and and hope that the time runs out. You have to go win the game. And tonight we didn’t. Or today we did not. Psychologically, a game like this where you know, you have the emotions, you come out, you’re ahead, and then all of a sudden what happens happens. How do you dig out of that and motivate and and and get ready for it? Cuz it’s game’s not going to stop. No. Um the uh the the the one uh takeaway that I did um receive during during the games there was not splintering. There was not um phases being frustrated with each other. Um everybody wanted to make a play. Um and uh wanted wanted to play 11 people as one. Um and I think that the yeah losses are um tough. Um but who really cares? like that we deserve for it to feel terrible. Um, and in that you uh you find out exactly who people are. I have uh confidence in who the people are in the locker room um and the coaching staff and um you know led by me. We we have to uh we no one cares about our feelings and yeah that that is a hard one to deal with but it should be um it’s uh uh just as if if not more for everybody that um decides to uh cheer for us and and turn on the TV. So that’s not acceptable. Will never be. And um when you have uh when you win um plus minus and and you have a three-score lead um you have to lean on an opponent in both um on both sides of the ball um on the line of scrimmage and and we were incapable. So I’m going to uh get back to the drawing board and and fix that um uh immediately. What needs to be stressed to this defense? Is it physicality? Is it schematic in our defense? Um, I think uh I think all things aren’t on on the the table. What I was frustrated with is I thought um we had uh similar issues at the beginning of the um Jets game and I thought within the game we we tightened up considerably um considering like a affformentioned um we gave up probably on handoffs um the same amount the rest of the game as we did the first drive. So, you’re hoping that you can build on some momentum. Um, you schematically and from a technique perspective, uh, we have to get guys playing on the on the same page. Um, there’s no, uh, ifs or buts about it. you you don’t give up um that many line of scrimmage yards without or um unless you’re uh uncoordinated in in certain ways that you know I need to u make sure that guys don’t um fray and try to handle it themselves. We collectively um uh need to build a wall and if um play calls need to change for that to occur then play calls need to change. Um but the uh uh it just it can’t continue to go on like this and um it’s already gone on too long. So we’ll uh get back to drawing board and in the National Football League, no one cares about your feelings. Um you you lose a game like this, uh you better come together and uh and from uh the foundation out, you need to um build on our sound things that we believe in. um that we know that our players are good at and they they um you know everyone needs to be accountable and and attack um and uh not wallow and I my expectation is no one will do that. Mike, I know you said that you didn’t sense any splintering within the team during the game. Did you feel maybe complacency at all? Not within, but did you feel complacency within the team? Um uh the you know qu to be quite honest uh I was uh you know uh that’s something I consider um on the front end of a you know a three-score lead this this year we hadn’t had that um we’d had a two score before and um so I was very I was moni monitoring that um live uh you know making sure that guys didn’t lose their edge and I didn’t feel like it. Um, you know, I thought we were one drive away and um, we we had some good answers um, in in offensively and then ultimately we didn’t and that just happened in succession. Um, and uh, you know, I was worried about guys um, you know, kind of uh, uh, from a focus standpoint uh, kind of packing it in. Um, but I didn’t feel that. Um, now it will it remains to be seen. I, you know, the tape never never lies with with that regard. So, um, if I’ve seen guys less tenacious um or or, you know, choosing not to not to do the same things um that that were occurring in the 0, 3 to 0, 10 to 0, and 17 to zero portions of the game. um we’ll have a a gigantic problem that you can’t um you know uh we were verbalizing it um and I didn’t feel it. Um however we we couldn’t uh uh evolve within the game on on both sides of the ball. So um I’ve got to give a plan of action and we got to attack that um starting uh first thing tomorrow. Terrell Dodson was out with a head injury two for one in him and Jaylen Wright the decision to go in inactive. So um the uh T dot um uh you know I I have to get some more information. You’re correct on um the the he was pulled because of a head. I don’t know where where and when. Um it was just communicated to me. And then uh Jaylen Wright was um not something that we were um totally planning on, but we felt we needed the body for um uh you know the the two other phases. So we went um heavy on defense and special teams. Um and it’s not it was an indictment on u Jaylen had a great conversation with him this morning um about the wise and what for. So, I’m expecting him to have a uh outstanding practice week um to uh prepare to go ahead and be involved against uh the Chargers. So,

I just don't care anymore. Our top drafted players aren't ready. This season is a wash as a result. Grier should be gone. McDaniel maybe as well… at least the Defensive line coach.
And fire his accomplice GM Pam Grier
Mike McMumbles sure likes using that word; splintering. I feel more confident in his future as wood furniture salesman than a head coach.
Tell us something we don't know
Please, Mr. Ross. If you decide to keep Mike, insist on daily English conversation lessons. To get rid of hundreds of ums and uhs every time he speaks. More than sick of it. No wonder he has multiple problems coaching. He never speaks clearly enough !!
Soft team, soft coach that's that.
So long for the ole happy go lucky manchild boy genius huh.. mcdipshit
Get Him out of here
They adapted, so what did you do about it? Just look stumped? Come on man
The Miami Dolphins won two titles a thousand years ago and we're tired of seeing the team be one of the worst in the league. The Dan Marino era was very good and then only failures. Good players come and go, but Miami is still just a business, a tourist attraction, and the owner doesn't care about winning or losing, much less about reaching the Super Bowl. Enough is enough. Oh, get out, I know everyone.
Tua always has a chance to have a game winning drive but he never can
He appears to lack confidence and I am sure that the players can sense that as well.
Every morning Stephen M. Ross looks in the mirror, all he can see is McDaniel. He's in love with him. I hope they get married and are happy. I was a Dolphins fan for 40 years and I'm leaving. I hate this team. I hope they disappear.
The owner of the dolphins will die sooner or later. He's already old, and I hope McDaniel is fired by then.
Not good enough, plain and simple. Let's thank everyone for their time and effort and move on. This experiment didn't work so we have to start again with a whole new group including
FIRE CHRIS GRIER, FIRE MCDUMMY, GET RID OF TUA, ANTHONY WEAVER DEFENSE IS HOT ASS, ROSS YOU'RE THE CAUSE OF THIS MESS. FIX IT DUDE
Amazing how many times he says “um” and “uh”😂
Coming here as a panthers fan yalls ckmment sections are bearly the same as ours
Look at the Dolphin fans crying. Lmaoooo! McDaniels doing whatever he can with Tua. Fire this guy, and Tua will get benched lmao
Can I get an "uh/uhm" count please
