Let’s have a good offseason

  1. Define good. The list of starting pitching is not all that encouraging. A high leverage reliever or two available. Plenty of OF / DH options. And then the prospects of a shutdown loom over the market.

As good as the bullpen was in the offseason I do think this team needs big time power arm in the pen.

  2. Some of yall don’t respect the process. I get it’s frustrating but with Craig at the helm we made it a 5 game series in NLDS. We were wild card contenders last year with a team that shouldn’t have been. All this doom and gloom is disappointing because you are ignoring the progress that has already occurred. Cubs will be back in the playoffs next year and years to come. Work out the kinks and keep the ball moving just like back in 2015.

  3. The case to sign Schwarber:

    1. Tucker is clearly gone and likely not worth the price tag anyways.

    2. Seiya showed his defense is competent in right field and PCA is so good it’s like getting 1.5 of an outfielder with his range.

    3. Wrigley has become a pitcher’s park until further notice or something changes. There are so few power hitters in baseball that mash the ball so hard the wind isn’t that consequential. Schwarber is one of them.

    4. It would be fun as hell to have Schwarber back as a Cub

Realistically, I think they could get him for 5 years at $30m per. Maybe the last couple of years he loses some value. But as a DH he will stay healthy and the dude doesn’t show any signs of decline.

That’s my #1 off season wish list item. We can talk all we want about not having the pitching. But if they had Horton this series I have no doubt the Cubs would have advanced. And adding Steele midseason next year will be the equivalent of a huge trade deadline acquisition.

  4. This team needs pitchers who miss bats. That was the big difference this series, IMO.

4 of the top 7 teams in strikeouts are left playing. Cubs were 27th. This matters in the playoffs.

  5. Honestly I think one of the problems is our pitchers can’t get whiffs. We were one of the worst teams at getting chases and whiffs, while every other playoff team was at the top of the table. Cade and Steele also aren’t particularly great at that. We need a Ben Brown but actually good, someone who can be an ace and just has nasty stuff.

The Brewers who are prob still the main competition next year are only gonna have better pitching with Woodruff coming back. We need that type of guy to hold it down when hitting inevitably becomes inconsistent in the playoffs.

  6. After losing Steele and then Horton, I knew we weren’t gonna make it far. Pitching is everything and as disappointing as it is to see our offense be a shell of its former self, I think we’re in a really good position for next year (assuming Jed makes good moves). Steele, Boyd, Horton, Imanaga, and Rea/Assad/someone else is going to be a dangerous rotation next year. PCA and Shaw are going to work out the kinks in their plate approach. Busch seems to have found himself at the plate and needs to start every game next year. All I want is to see schwarber back on the cubs!!

  7. Don’t extend Tucker, get an Ace, better bench players, and resign some bullpen arms.
