The 6-1-1 Podcast: Recapping the Division Series, Previewing Championship Series
Here we are with another quick hit playoff edition 611. Where do we begin? It’s a sad day for the 611. Let’s let’s just start off with that. It’s a sad day for the 611. And it’s okay to be biased. Our old career was Smith in Philadelphia. And um I think every man on this podcast, including the ones that were in that dugout last night, felt that this was the year with this group. everything going their way in in a fashion that they had a stack team. They had an ace go down. They we saw ace become more than an ace. Um we got a closer, something that we needed to figure out that ninth inning. We brought in Bader that was a great trade acquisitions. Everything worked out. Our trade acquisitions were great. Uh we ended the season relatively healthy. You know, everybody that we needed to win, we had. But as we know sometimes and a lot of times the best team does not win. Go ahead and take it away since you’re down there in Mexico. We trying to get you to beat. So we going we going we going to wrap this up because we don’t want your day in Mexico to be bummed out. We don’t want the vac to start off on the wrong foot. You know what? I I I I the first the first thing I want to start off with is the the pitching was exactly what we said it needed to be. Like Christopher Sanchez was Christopher Sanchez and then some. Lazardo, I told you, he he was he was the wild card and he showed up and showed out, you know, he he he gave you every opportunity. He went toe-to-toe with Snell and gave you every opportunity to kind of stay in there. Now, sometimes it happens, man. like bats just kind of go cold. But well, let me put it this way. Bats can go cold, but when you facing the caliber of pitching that they faced in Otani and Snell Yeah. And Yamamoto, hey, look, let’s let’s let’s not discount. Like, you you faced three aces. You’re facing three aces. So, it’s it’s it’s it’s a it’s a tall task to be able to go out there and try to beat those guys now. And it wasn’t like you got blown out or anything like that. Every game was was tight. You played every single game well. After that game three, I’m like, “Oh, here they go.” Like that that was it. That was that that was that Matt Stairs ball to the moon that Schwarber hit that left the ball that left the stadium. It’s like here it is. Okay. Now they’re going to show up. Now we have And not that it wasn’t a series, but it’s like now we have a series. Like they’re playing with confidence like we can we can get to these guys. Oh, no. Absolutely. Absolutely. And then I think like obviously you get to the moment u in game four bases loaded the ground ball back to Kirk fundamentals and just fundamentals you know it’s just it’s just the the the fundamentals and and and it’s and it’s one of those things you know where it’s sometimes the situation just gets the best of you. Um and you know a little bit of panic set in as opposed to you know picking it up everybody. It’s easy for us to all sit here and say, “Hey, like, yeah, you got to go to first base. You got to go to first base.” But it’s it’s understandable. Like sometimes th those things just happen. And it sucks. It sucks. Like we’ve been on those types of on those sides of those types of things happening. I mean, it’s in his mind is probably like, “Hey, I’m thinking, “Yeah, I I I got this. I got this.” Nine times out of 10, you’re fielding that ball. Now, now I’m I’m going to push back a little bit. I’m going to push back because I don’t think we’ve been on that side of it. We we we we haven’t been on that side of it, Ry. We we busted our butts. We were drilled and we practice those things over and over and over and over. So there is no panic. And that’s the purpose of practicing it. Also, that’s the purpose of going through different scenarios in your head. And and I was thinking about it. If he goes to first, right, and if it it’s he throws it up the line, off the line, and it’s a bad throw, and he lose on the error anyway, you live with the bad throw because it was the right play. It was the correct play not being executed. Nothing about that play was executed. And that’s what makes it so difficult. Like just it’s almost like a blackout moment. Like, yes, the moment can get big. You take that deep breath. What are you talking about? Take a deep breath. get your thoughts together and then you get back into it. Um, and then when those things happen there, like I said, there’s no panic and and that’s what that’s what made it so frustrating watching the game live. Um, he’ll learn from it. Unfortunately, it’s something that will just, you know, be talked about for a while. Uh, but I can I hope I can pretty much guarantee that’ll never happen again. Anyhow, the Dodgers move on. Let’s talk about the good things. The Dodgers move on. They look great. I mean, they they look great and we talked about it. uh in our run you have to win the championship innings and you look at their scoring after the fifth inning and we called them the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. The Dodgers started in the sixth inning. They win in six, seven, eight and nine and that’s how they end up winning this series. Hernandez brothers of course they strike again. Kiki scares me, bro. They they scare me, bro. Yeah. th though like Tay Oscar and and Kiki, bro, th those are the two those are the two guys in the lineup that I mean it’s no disrespect to to Otani and Freddy and everybody those guys it’s like when the moment is right there that them and like uh Max my right like and Will Smith too and Will Smith I’m saying like I mean they they’ve got guys that come up in moments that come up in the moments and they are there and they are ready for those moments and it’s like you know like you They held Fred the the Phillies pitchers held Freddy at bay. Uh like you said, Muki pretty much as well and and Otani, but it was it was the the Hernandez boys and how forget Edmond I mean just they they they they h they they have guys. Yes, as we call them, they have red light players. They’re not afraid of the moment. They have red light players. So kudos to the Dodgers. You know, they did what they needed to do as Muki said in the interview. You know, it was a street fight just in the form of baseball. But man, every single game and I’m not gonna lie, last night, Ryan, I couldn’t take it. I’m just, oh my gosh, this is that was the first time I’m not even in the World Series when we were there in what was that 22. I didn’t feel this way. It was just like on edge, anxious, nerves. I understand people saying your nerves are bad. It never happened as a player. You, you know, as a player, you’re going to make it happen or it’s not going to happen, but as a fan, as someone watching, there’s nothing you can do. And oh my gosh, game five, nailbiter between Chicago and a Milwaukee. That’s another street fight in the form of baseball. But you know what? The home team has won every game so far. Just just to note, the home team has won every game so far. And that and and and as we said before this series started, these teams are familiar with each other. So this is to be expected them going back and forth because the way that Milwaukee came out games one and two, it looked like it was over in three. Over. Absolutely. It looked like it looked like the Cubs had no shot and no shot and but but then the way they came back, they rallied back, you found some good things and and and I think in game two where it’s like, yeah, those games were kind of Milwaukee got out early quick, but then you could see some things where, okay, hey, we may not necessarily get this game, but let’s find a silver lining. Let’s let’s continue to fight. Let’s build on positives. And you could tell that that’s what the Cubs were doing towards the end of the game and then carried that into Wrigley. And actually then I believe I believe game two in Milwaukee the Cubs came out put up a three or four spot. Milwauke hold up hold up let me show youall how we really do it. And when I saw that happen I’m like it’s it’s a wrap. It’s a wrap. And even and even in game three Milwaukee had a chance to close it out. I I thought it was a bone head. I don’t know if it was a safety squeeze. It just wasn’t necessary. It was almost like you’re up two games to nothing and you panicked in that moment. Like literally, why? Why? The way you guys are swinging a bat, you don’t try to drive the ball out the yard. You have a run on third. Uh you guys are the best team with two outs. Although it was one at the time, you guys are the best team with two outs or runners in scoring position. You’re down by one run on the road. You’re not playing for the tie. Drive him in. That’s the first time I said, “Okay, all right. Chicago, they’re playing Cubby baseball like like game five is not game game game five is not a lock. Like the pitching boy knifing them up. The bullpin the way Valencia just came in and shut it down. So, let’s talk about the other boys in the stripes that are uh out there. I I I think they’re they probably fishing together at this moment. You know, you got blue the blue stripes and the red stripes. They calling each other like, “Hey, where you at? Y’all y’all got a y’all got a head start, but we about to join y’all. The New York Yankees. Hey, Vlatty said it early, man. Vlatty Jr. said he’s like, “We’re not afraid of the Yankees. We’re not afraid.” And they came out in games one and two and they showed it. And why did they keep pitching to Vlatty? Why? I don’t Why are you pitching to Vlatty? He You know, Griffy hated hated the Yankees and he made it very clear and his numbers against the Yankees are outrageous. Mhm. Vlatty made it very clear. I don’t like you guys and we’re not afraid. And have you seen his numbers against the Yankees? Oh, they’re insane. And they pitched to him like what? I don’t get it. I don’t I don’t get it, Rob. I’m glad they did. Right. I’m glad they did. It makes for they they they made they made him stand on business. And guess what? He stood tall. Yeah. He stood tall with Thor’s hammer. Yes, he did. You know, they they have a young lineup um with some veterans in there. Vulpi has to step up. Um, Wells, also Rice, you know, guys that are going to have to come up and play big. You know, they’re young, so you have space to let them grow, but they have some time in the big leagues now. And, you know, the Yankees are going to have to, you know, get them boys, right? I mean, but you know what though? You can’t overlook what Aaron Judge did in that series and how he he showed up and he posted up and then when they needed him the most, he came through with that three-run homer. Clutch. Like clutch over threequarters of the way up the flag pole. Okay. Look, I I did a thing with Ben Dan Patrick show. There only a few guys that keep the ball off fair. Two of them are retired. Yeah, that’s true. Barry and Chef. Yeah, that ball was off the plate in almost on a step and he just swung like this and it’s three quarters up up the foul pole. Judge is a beast. He look he had a great postseason. I think he hit for some change. He did, you know, and and and I know people were on him about, you know, not having that big moment, the big hit. When I say the big hit, meaning a home run. And that’s that what they’re talking about. And his team was down by three and he did his job. And what I loved about it is how he went down to the end of the dugout, looked into the camera, took a step back, and gave that double look almost like, “Is this not what you came to see? Is this not what you asked for? Silence all the haters.” So, but unfortunately, they’re with our boys on the boat. You know, they probably on their way down to Mexico to meet you. They might be. I Yeah, they I I think they heard you were down there, so they they’re on their way to come see you and ask you Look, they got a poll for you. They they got a poll for you. But um there there there’s uh another series out there that we haven’t touched on. We’ll just jump on real quick. And that’s Seattle and Detroit. Back in Seattle. Uh Kirby on the mound for Seattle. We have Scooble. Uh Scooble on the mound for Detroit. And Scooble just had School hasn’t beat these boys. I think the bats for Detroit got to bottle up what they were doing in Detroit and make sure they brought that on the road because look, you can only do so much. like you can hold those guys at bay but you still got to hit and you got to score runs. So the way those guys were starting to like swing freely and I feel like I started seeing something with Jav cuz I love man I’m I’m a Jav Bayz fan bro and just watching everything about Jav is like smooth and cool. It’s like he remind me like uh you know Vento Suave cool brief you know I mean Juan Juan Samuel you know what I mean Juan Juan shout out Juan you know what it is but uh papa but it’s but it’s just like watching him because I had seen I was like he’s close he got to stay if he stays right there it’s going to be trouble it will be trouble. So yeah that that offense they had the offense they had there was definitely something that we saw like like Chicago how who who Detroit was in the first half. They strugg in the second half, but what we saw in Detroit, it was like those that that scary. Now, lineup wise and roster-wise, I like Seattle better. I I I just do. I just think it’s constructed uh very well. So, Big Peace, thanks for your time, brother. We know you out there on vacay. You got satellite on the boat, so you know what that means. You can watch your boy Young James on TNT opener. Don’t catch that text from me. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Let Let me know.
