Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks at Oilers (Oct 11, 2025)

the effort by your goalie today just unbelievable play for him today. Yeah, he’s amazing. So, um definitely kept us in with multiple chances. Yeah. What does he do for that when when he’s making those saves, what does he do for the rest of the team to kind of I mean I think he just gives us a chance. I mean, most goalies that goes in and it’s 3-1 4-1. So, I mean, he just gives us a chance. Uh yeah, like he’s he’s incredible. Seriously. Well, Quinn, take us through this one. What led to the final score? Uh, I mean I mean they capitalized on some looks. Demer played great. Um, shots were pretty heavy favorites to them and yeah, I don’t know. Same saw the same thing you did. I know it’s probably not the time you want to talk about it, but with the assist on Brock’s goal, you become the franchise leader in points for a defenseman. What does that milestone mean to you, especially just to hit it at this point in your career? Yeah, it means a lot. So, it’s a great organization and um a lot of great players coming through over the 56 or 57 years the Canucks have been around. So, um honored for sure. A great the first two periods against Calgary, but I think everyone was nervous and you you guys also didn’t give up a lot, but you gave up a lot tonight. How how how do you start better? How do you how do you get into the game? It’s a good question. Um yeah, I mean I can’t expect Emmer to make those saves every night for sure. So something we’ll have to look at. I want to ask you about Braden C real quick and just the impression he’s made as a young kid trying to trying to get into make make this league make the jump permanently. Yeah, he’s done really well. I mean it’s not easy at 18. So um it’s going to play a long time. Just got to take it day at a time. Brock, maybe just walk us through this one what you saw from your group that led to the final score. Um, I think we sat back a little too much in the first two periods there and I I thought uh when we tried to get some momentum going in the third. We took a couple penalties and that kind of uh you made made us take a step back. So I thought we were in the box a lot. We got to be a little more disciplined and um you know push a little harder. 36 saves from Thatcher Demco. What’ you see from him? Uh he kept us in it. It could have been five 61 and uh he kept us in it. So uh it doesn’t surprise me. He’s a world class goalie. And with the assist on your goal, Quinn Hughes becomes the franchise leader in points as a defenseman. What can you say about him just as a leader with this group? Um, yeah, I mean, uh, you see his plan on the ice, he drives play. Uh, you know, he’s a compet competitive kid and, uh, he always tries to push himself to be the best. So, um, you know, he’s, uh, doesn’t surprise me that he’s done that, gotten that accomplishment. Uh, he’s going to have plenty more. Brock, this is a tough league for an 18-year-old to to make the jump, I guess. What have you seen out of Braden Coots that he’s been able to be successful at this point so far? Yeah, I mean, you see how well he skates and how smart he is out there? And I think, you know, those are two key components. He he thinks the game at a a high level and that’s what allows him to fit in out there and and and uh be solid. How does a young guy energize a room like this, you know? Yeah, I mean, it’s it’s awesome to see. And anytime a guy like that push for a spot, I mean, it hasn’t happened since I’ve been here, so it’s uh pretty cool. And uh you know, I feel pretty old. I’m 10 years older than him. So, uh it’s a little weird, but I mean I’m super happy for him and and uh yeah, he’s a great kid. Surprised you a little bit after, um a bit of a struggle to kind of get going last game against Calgary that you guys uh weren’t more on at the start. Uh I don’t know. I think it’s a little different game plan when you’re going against uh you know those two guys, especially when you’re out there. You got to be aware of them at all times. and um you know, I think we we didn’t take advantage when when they weren’t on the ice and um yeah, it’s uh obviously something we’re going to talk about and and push to be better at. What is the biggest adjustment you want to see heading into that game against St. Louis on Monday? Uh you know, I think just coming out right from the start. Um you know, I think we can have a better start and and really set the tone of the game. Start with the performance of your goalender tonight. He was just unbelievable. Yeah, Demer was good. Um yeah, he played good. He kept us in there. Um he had five power plays. He did his job. What do you need to do to start better? To start better. Well, we got a I think we just got to stay out of the box. Um we actually didn’t have a bad It wasn’t going too too wrong early. We were our game plan. We were getting out with a neutral. We almost had about five. They really for check hard. They go wide. We almost had four or five twoon ones in the first. So we hit one of them. Um we’re fine. And then we take an offensive zone penalty. It happens. But uh you know with a team like that you got to stay to the box. Adam, this morning you kind of described a little bit of what you wanted to see, how you wanted this game to go. Here we are now after the game. Did you kind of see most of what you wanted from your team or what was maybe different than you might have expected? You know, we we were right there and uh we when you have a performance from your goalender like that and killing five penalties with guys like uh a power play like that, you you know, you just have to be a little bit more patient. We, you know, the first one we threw one out there a trying that we thought we had a guy there and they went the other way and um it ramped up I think on one of our sticks and then um you know we had unlikely turnover. It usually doesn’t happen that way but uh and we started the third and we we’re all over them. We’re flying and then um you know another penalty uh which we have to just control ourselves a little bit more be a little bit more disciplined. Quinn Hughes tonight with that assist on Brock Basser’s goal becomes a franchise leader in points by defenseman. What can you say about just him as a leader with this group right now? Yeah, he’s going. I mean, he’s he’s always uh there for you. He’s always pushing it. Uh it was a nice play. We were I think I think we missed another one at the end. I think uh they got to stick on Brock’s empty net there. So, that’s good for Quinn. How does Evander Kane kind of change the dynamic your team? He’s always involved. He’s always, you know, making big hits. He’s always seems to be the guy at the bottom of the pile. Like, what does he do to your team? Well, he’s strong. I mean, he’s he’s strong player. He’s got good hands and tight. Um, you know, you saw at the end there he made that big hit and um, you know, when he’s moving his feet, he’s hard to play, I

  1. Only 2nd game but LOL could call it last year already—WHO are those fans that think EP40 is good? WOW what a steal for him the contract he signed….what a joke

  2. They played 10 minutes of the game physically short handed. No goals against from 2 of the biggest sharpshooters in the league. Have a little think on that.

  3. The only thing that matters right now is offensive strategy and better passing. The looks Canucks get are way less dangerous cause they are not forcing the close up plays like the cross crease ones Oilers force on Demko. Until they start forcing the most dangerous plays Canucks aren’t going anywhere… it’s always been a strategy and passing practice problem in Van, the talent has been there. How hard is it to skate over the blue line and hold to wait for the open pass/drop pass? Skate towards the middle and hold. Instead of dumping it constantly mostly up the sides. Why do the players look like they don’t know what they are trying to force? Is it actually the predictable long shot from Quinn every time hoping for a tip in? Low odds… time to mimic Edmonton offense for easy wins

  4. The Kane PP1 experiment is surely over, Jonathan L. Conar G or even the Kid taken that spot, all faster to the puck & have Tyler M. standing in front of the goalie, Quinn & Petey doing their thing, pucks would be flying…

  5. What many don't take into account is….that was the Oilers best and it wasn't the Canucks best. They are the 5th youngest team with plenty of turnover on the roster. Give them some time to play together, to get to know each other. Oilers team has played together for years and know each other well….be patient, they will get better as the season moves along….the Oilers weren't going to lose their 1st 2 games at home….Canucks kept it close and had a chance to steal the game…..give them some time.

  6. EP 40 MIA again .. face off percentage something like 30% last night. Guaranteed Huggy, Bes, and Thatcher are giving Petey ice cold stares. You don't pay 11M for a guy who coasts and plays ok defensively. For a guy who was talking revenge in summer Petey looks like he's afraid to move or get hit.

  7. I don't get some fans. One minute they're declaring the Canucks to be contenders after one game. Then they play an actual contender and predictably lose, and everyone's saying nobody showed up. Maybe this is what they are. Armchair quarterbacking and pretending we know more than a coach who actually played hockey professionally is embarrassing. The biggest problem for this team since the 2010s has been ownership meddling. Not letting the hockey people do their jobs. Now fans think they can do better. The Oilers made the Finals 2 years in a row. Take the hint. If Demko and Lankinen aren't overworked and they stand on their heads, the Canucks are probably a wildcard team. That's it. But queue the armchair quarterbacks who think they know better because they watched hockey for years. Or sometimes months.

  8. Most glaring thing i noticed was the canucks as a whole didnt show up, and were DOGSHIT in the face off circle, not one of them was winning even 50%. Cant control a game if they cant control the puck

  9. This one was a pretty tough reality check. We are soooo many gears behind Edmonton. Demko is a great equalizer but it certainly feels like we have no shot at a cup in the near term. The Canucks aren't going to generate offense consistently enough to be any sort of threat. I imagine maybe can fight for a wild card spot if completely healthy. Feels like we are paper thin up front. Maybe this team finds an identity that surprises us but it feels like we are in for more of these low shot total games with not much generated in terms of chances. Quinn looks sick/tired already too 😂

  10. I spent $1100 for two tickets to go to game 7 against edmonton and they didn’t show up. I dunno why i expected them to show up against a division rival on hockey night in canada, but that was the most uninspired hockey team i’ve watched since that game 7. If that’s all we got, it should be obliterated and rebuilt.
