Jack Flaherty hasn’t decided on his $20 million player option for 2026, but he offered the following:

  1. His peripherals suggest he was better than his ERA. For Jack though, you see teams in free agency handing $15 million to corpses (cough Alex Cobb) so he could probably get a 2 year deal you’d think.

  2. Anyone know what he was saying to himself while pitching last night? I had the TV muted and Dickerson on, wasn’t sure if they addressed it on TV.

  3. He hasn’t been great but he’s not terrible, and I love that he actually wants to be here. He should not be our #2 next year but he can certainly function as a #4 or #5 starter.

  4. I’d love to have him back. Expiring, $20 mil and has number 2 upside when he’s dialed in. If he’s like he is this year, that’s still good value.

  5. Off of strictly feel, I wanna say majority of Jack’s poor starts were against bad teams. It always seemed like he nutted up and pitched really well when we played top tier teams. He pitched great in the playoffs and has the veteran presence. Would love to have him back

  6. Honestly, id rather see him move on personally.

He can lock in at times, but i kind of feel like hes a head case..once things start going bad he tends to fall off the rails.

Would like.to see that money go elsewhere. If we actually spend it.

  7. I mean Cobb got $15 mill to do less on the field than Burt Reynolds so for an extra $5 mil more screw it

  8. This seems like a hint on who the GM should keep 😆 everyone else can go. Torres was injured but I hope to see some roster changes. Parker needs to go.

  9. My guess is that he opts out, but accepts a QO. He’ll get paid a little more that way, and be ineligible for the QO a year later.

  10. Is Mize a free agent? I’m trying to picture what our rotation could look like. Skubal, Olson, Melton… who else?

  11. Unless he’s looking for long term security, which I wouldn’t offer if I was another GM, he’d be crazy to decline

  12. Thanks for fighting in the playoffs Jack. He showed me a lot of heart. Also he should probably accept that option, idk if a team will give him 20 mil

  13. Sounds a lot like a guy who won’t get $20 million anywhere else. Of course he’s picking that option up….

  14. Jack gave us a much better chance at winning that game than Tommy did so there’s that.

  15. He isn’t going anywhere. After last season, no one was rushing to sign him, including the Tigers. Time went by and the better offers didn’t come.

  16. Flaherty: “Love this team.”

    $20M Guaranteed Dollars: “Hi, Jack.”

    Flaherty: “Oh, that, too.”

  17. If you look at purely $$ signs, you have Alex Cobb’s 15 million, Charlie Morton’s 15 million and Chris Paddack’s 12.5 million to work with. I don’t see any reason not to use that 42.5 million of what turned out to be money thrown in the trash to your advantage. None of them are signed for next season. Maybe you do offer Skubal what he wants, sweeten the Flaherty pot and hope that the almighty farm system can add to arms like the oft injured Olsen, unsteady Mize and up and coming Melton.

  18. I mean look if we have a full season of healthy Jobe, Olson, Mize and Skub that’s pretty nasty.
