GET UP | I choose Mahomes instead of Lawrence tonight! – Rex Ryan believes Chiefs will beat Jaguars
Big man tiny helmet. Oh, that’s the one I’ve been waiting for. Hit me right in the chin. Turn to the side. Start to the side. Oh, he’s hit. Watch this. All right, here we go. We almost lost Sheffy last week, so everyone get your goggles on very quickly before we pick the game. Uh, the Chiefs are a three and a half point favorite at Jacksonville. Shifty, what is going on with Xavier Worthy? Well, what happened was he flew down there yesterday. His ankle swelled up on the plane. So, out of precaution, the Chiefs put him on the injury report is questionable because his ankle was swoll. They want to see how it responds today. I think they believe he’s going to be able to play, but they just want to make sure that the ankle doesn’t get worse. All right, cuz they look so much better with him than they had without him. All right, we got the Chiefs, we got the Jaguars statement game, maybe Jacksonville Dwood, who do we like? Oh, he got you, Rick. Hurry up. I’m good. Yeah, we got shrimp all over. It literally just bounced off wrestling. Run it into steel. You know what I mean? Tell me why. How does he win? Uh, how they always win. Patrick Mahomes. I think I think last week it was probably a jumping off point for them to get them some momentum and more importantly some confidence on offense. Now, they’re going up against a really good Jacksonville Jaguars uh defense this year, but I’m going I’m going with Pat. Teams are winning on defense. That’s how they’ve been winning these games anyway. So to me, that’s why I think that you’re Teddy, I see the Jaguars logo. This is the week of the awakening. I’m telling you, teams are starting to come through and show who they really are. I think the Jaguars have a statement victory today. I really love the defense and especially the way ETN’s been running the football. So Duvo, that would really that would really be something if if they finally turn that game uh tonight. Again, you see the pics there up on the screen, Kansas City and Jacksonville for how he celebrated his win last week. Yeah. Look at Rexy go. And I got to say on your behalf, Rex, I am offended by whoever wrote that topic bar on the screen. I thought he was magnificent. I thought that was great dancing. You should be on Dancing with the Stars. But okay, here we go. This is a tough question, but I like it. Which 2,000yard rusher ran for the most yards in the playoffs in the season in which he did it? Yeah. I mean, there’s only like seven guys that have ever rushed for 2,000 yards, right? So, anyway, I’ve got it narrowed down to to two guys. I’m not going at the Adri Peterson, Dickerson, you know, all these type guys. Jamal Lewis, Chris Johnson, all of them. I got it down to two. Terrell Davis, right? Or my final answer, Saquon Barkley. Oh my god. That’s right. It is Saquon Barkley. It is Saquon Barkley. That is Saquon Barkley. Hippo. You’re not here. You ran. And I know you’re at home watching. Boom, buddy. That’s right. I own you. You could be here. You could be home. I don’t care. I still own you. Terrell Davis, which is what I was sure the answer was, ran for 468 yards that year in the playoffs and won the Super Bowl. Saquon ran for 499 last year, scoring other wreck. Meanwhile, yesterday the Eagles were one of the last two unbeatens and both of them dropped their games yesterday. Eagles lose, Bills lose. So, a Sheffy said, “Pop the corks in Miami. The 72 Dolphins will not be matched this year.” It was also the first day in NFL history that multiple 4-0 or better teams lost at home. Eagles have no time to rest. They have a quick turnaround. They play the Giants Thursday. The Bills head to Atlanta. They will play next Monday night. Now, you said something interesting, Rex, and a great job by the team behind the scenes at Get Up. Let me explain the conversation. You suggested that the new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patulo, in Philadelphia, may be influenced by hearing media criticism and stuff like that about the wide receivers not getting the ball enough, and that may be why they only ran the ball 11 times in a game that they had a two touchdown lead in the fourth quarter. I thought of something Alex Smith said yesterday on Sunday NFL Countdown when he was talking about being a quarterback and your receiver is upset about not getting the ball and what that feels like. This is what he said. I’ve been there when you step into the huddle and your star receiver, right, is not happy. There’s no eye contact. They want the ball. And then you break the huddle, right? And you’ve got your your plan and all these things you’re thinking about and in the back of your head is this. I got to get him the ball. I got to get him the ball. And I thought that was such a fascinating thought as one who lived it and and only the quarterbacks get it. And so I’m not in this case talking as much about Jaylen Herz as I am the offensive coordinator. Is it possible that the offensive coordinator who again is is inexperienced in that role is feeling the pressure from AJ Brown cryptically posting biblical tweets and all the rest of that kind of stuff. Is it possible that is where that pressure is coming from? I mean it absolutely could be. Uh because right now th this is crazy. like I you you have a Super Bowl ring. You were part of that staff and the reason you won it is cuz you ran the football and that opens up your pass game. Like I don’t know, but yeah, it could be that hey, you know what? I’m going to get them. You know, we’re going to throw the ball. We’re going to do this and that. Forget that, man. Go back to what got you there. What br you so to speak, and that’s rushing the football. And that’s when I mean hopefully head coaches then aggressive I mean stern head coaches step in and say basically this is what we want to do. I mean have you have you walked into offensive meeting rooms before coach? I mean I had one and I had I had a I had a good guy a tough guy and think one day and I remember we got beat and I said we’ve got to run the football. What do we not understand about running the football? And I’m pretty passionate about it. might have come to blows. But anyway, it’s uh the next week we threw the ball eight times and here’s the bad thing. We had it going and we actually lost that game and it was like oh my go but it was right at the end and pretty much he was like well hey I go that’s good keep it going do it here’s the point here here’s the point so look we can sit here and say whatever we want at the end of the day going into yesterday and I’ve not seen the updated statistic but going into yesterday the offensive line for Saquon Barkley the blocking for Saquon Barkley last year when he should have been the MVP of the league he was rushing for over four yards before first contact it was the best in the league going into yesterday that number was 1.8 yards before first contact is this offensive line just not at what it was a year ago and at the end of the day is that more than anything what we’re seeing with the Eagles. Oh absolutely this line is clearly not playing to uh what they were last year and it does it is absolutely having an effect on the running game. But I will I will also say this, you know, we talked about the offensive coordinator, Kevin Pulo. I think this is this this is where sometimes you can get it wrong where he’s been here. He’s been in that building and so we can just transition, you know, him calling the plays for the first time, right? Being a play caller is an art form. You have to know how to stack plays, how to sequence plays in order for things to work. And I look at when I watch him play, it’s just a hodgepodge of, well, let me throw this out there. Let me throw that out there. There’s no sequencing where you like, okay, I see what the Philadelphia Eagles are doing. Just like you asked me the question at the beginning of the show, right, about their identity. They have no identity because they have no rhythm and flow to their offense. So, do that does that get better as the play caller gets more comfortable as there are more whatever? They had like a, you know, a come to Jesus meeting last year, whatever it was, and they kind of figured things out, right? And they went on a roll and they basically never lost again. Is this team going to do that again? Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. I mean, that’s why I bring up the head coach directs because some serani have to step in in this. Help him help him coordinate properly based on the needs that the head coach feels. I’m telling you what, defensively going up against the Philadelphia Eagles, I am not threatened by the run game as of today. And that’s a problem because the way defensive coordinators have called this in the past, it’s like Squan first, right? But now it’s not that. Quick final word, check. Anyone starting any new job needs to learn the rhythms and routines of that job. Kevin Patulu is still learning on the job and it’s going to be a long process and it’s going to be involved throughout the course of the season. Okay, as I mentioned, there is still one very good game left on this weekend schedule. It’s tonight and we’ll pick it the way we always do. Let’s smash the helmet.
