HORNETS vs MAVERICKS | NBA PRE-SEASON | NBA 2K INSANE REALISM 😱 Full Gameplay [4K 60FPS]

joined by Doris Bird, Greg Anthony, and David Aldridge reporting for side. And they’ve got one player out of the lineup due to injury. Down a star player, as long as that continues to be the case, they’ll have to find a way to compensate. And a look at the starters for the Hornets. Up forward, it’s Miller and Bridges. Green is out there with LaMelo Ball and it’s Plumbley in at the center filling out the middle. And for Dallas, we’ve got Davis, D’Angelo Russell out there with Thompson. Then it’s Derek Lively. And on paper break, this might seem like a potential blow, but anything can happen in this NBA. Kevin, we see upsets happen all the time. It’s what makes the sport great. You can’t take any team or game for granted. So Dallas will get the first possession. Pass to Russell. Lively with it. He’s guarded by Plumbley. Green against Russell. Clock at six. To the paint. Bridges with the steel. And oh, here we go with Green. Nobody back. And it’s Green with the jam. Well, boy, Miles Bridges showing you that he’s not just a scorer. How about that pass and setup? It’s time now to hear from our Hall of Fame reporter, David Aldridge. What’s the latest, David? Guys, the head coach of the Mavericks did give me a few minutes to catch up. In talking to coach, he discussed the hidden talents of the Melo Ball. Coach said, “He’s still a young player in this league, but we can’t take that lightly. We’ve seen what he’s done to soft defenses. We need to be physical.” So, we’ll see if that defense tightens up for them, guys. All right, David. Thanks. And here are the Hornets now. The Mavericks making the shot. And it’s good for two. With the size he brings to the guard position, you love to see LaMelo assert himself down low. Russell against Green. It’s Davis on the wing. Plumbley with the rebound. Ball with it. Picked up by Davis. Ball dishes to Bridges. Ball no good. And it’s Davis with the ball for Dallas. Defended by Bridges. Back to Davis. And they double up Davis. Pass to Wively out to the wing. Russell against Miller. The shot. They get it back. Lot it up for Davis. Lively finds Davis and Thompson gets it to go. Boy, showing off his versatility. Klay Thompson attacking the interior of this defense. You know, Greg, one thing you notice, we were just talking about this with the Hornets in recent years, a lot of changing lineups, and you expect that with the team with where they’re at. They’re looking for any advantage game to game and trying to build that identity as a franchise. Outside, Russell launches it from deep, drills the three-pointer. Five points in the game. And I like Davis’s decision making. Fantastic. Always great at understanding when to move the ball. And timeout is called by Charles Lee. And coach has decided they need a moment to talk things over. [Applause] [Applause] And a little over two and a half minutes gone here in the first. Green deciding where to go with it. [Applause] Bridges sets the screen for ball. Back to Bridges. It’s stolen by Davis. Thompson in the corner. There’s the triple and that one falls coming off of Davis’s feed. Thompson’s got five now. Anywhere on the ark, Thompson is a threat. You have to do all you can to run him off that line. Bridges outside. Club with a screen on Davis. It’s intercepted. And here we go with Thompson running it up the court. Missile blows. Bucket is good. And he’ll have a chance at the line to make it a three-point play. And guys, what do you think about the hustle stats here for the Mavericks? They’re really mucking things up for the opposition, racking up steel after steal, just not letting them develop any kind of offensive rhythm. They’ve also done a really good job taking advantage of miscues. Their defense has been stifling in this one. Well, we know GA, the Mavs are so adept at hunting the matchups they want. They’re patient and methodical. They they never look like they’re in a rush, right? Even when you send a double or trap the ball, the Mavs stay calm and know where to go. It’s what makes slowing down their pick and roll so difficult. This guy is always ready to shoot the three. LaMelo so confident from distance. Plumbley against Wively to the middle Russell. That’s in for the first basket of the game after three attempts. And once he got to the 10, I think he was surprised to find himself that wide open. I think defensively that is not the way you want to start. giving up high percentage looks. That doesn’t typically end well. Green passes to Miller. They get it again. The kick out to B. The second chance effort. Pass to Bridges. Just three to shoot. And here’s Green outside. Anthony Davis with the rebound. And it’s Famous with the ball for the Dallas Mavericks. Eight-point game. Russell against Green. Lively a screen on Green and finished off by Lively. And they have owned the paint so far and the score reflects it. I know it’s early, but you have got to like the dominance down low right now. They are playing fully basketball. Now here’s Ball. He has five. floats one. Got a piece of it. Defended by Bridges outside Davis and it’s out of bounds. Nice touch by Lively. And timeout is called by Charles Lee. He’s going to have a discussion here on the sideline. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Hornets trail by 10. Ball feeling it out a bit. Not happening with that shot. He’s put up five and made two. Here’s Davis. Tries again. Tries to save it. And they’ll get another chance. Goes up again. Green for two points. And what a way to start this game. Dominating at both ends of the floor. And give them credit for approaching this game with the right energy and intensity. This team has attacked every chance they’ve gotten. Here’s ball following the basket by Anthony Davis. Thompson outside and out of bounds as the Hornets gain possession. [Applause] Hornets trail by 12. Bridges outside. Plumbley sets the pick for Bridges inside. Stolen by Lively. Pass to Thompson. Shoots over ball. The shot by Thompson. No good. Charlotte’s gone. One of three from beyond the arc so far in the game. They need this one. And he gets the bucket. Well, how about the in between game? Get to the mid-range if you’re Miles Bridges and take advantage. And we’ve got a timeout called by Jason Kidd. He’s ready to talk things through with the team. [Music] Some changes for Charlotte. Diabate is jacked in and it’s Williams in for Bridges. [Applause] [Applause] Mavericks leading by 10. Russell passes to Davis [Music] and that one drops. Davis has got his second bucket of the game to go. Yeah, we’re seeing some fireworks from them already. Well, what I love is the game plan has been solid from the opening tip and guys are making their shots. That’s critical. Ball with the bucket. Well, in the paint, it’s the length and the agility of LaMelo Ball to get things done around physical defenders. LaMelo Ball came in like a storm into this NBA Dors, but hasn’t been able to stay healthy since. It’s so true, Kevin. And that’s unfortunate because the skill is apparent every time he plays. He’s a gamecher with his size and his playmaking. The NBA is better off because of the flare and the style he brings when he is helping. A moment now to hear from our sideline reporter, Hall of Famer David Aldridge. David, Kevin, the new leadership in Charlotte has made it clear that it’s not going in for quick fixes. The goal is sustained success, building with youth and development. Call it roster flexibility or a blank slate. But with some promising young players and more health, there’s nowhere to go but up. Kevin, health is huge. That’s the hope. Hey David, thank you. And the D getting out work there on the putback. Can’t let that happen. You have got to put a body on somebody. We talk about it ad nauseium, but you’ve got to be disciplined with the box outs. And the foul called on Grant Williams. That is his first foul of the game. You got to love strong defense, especially when it comes in the form of harsh rejections. Wow. And this is how you protect and grow a lead by making a huge effort on that end of the floor. Here’s Christie. Scoreless thus far. Pass to Russell. Five to shoot. Dallas needs to get off a shot. Boy, that’s great defense from LaMelo Ball. He has the length and the agility to be an outstanding defender. It’s about learning to give it every single night on that end. And it’s famous with the ball for the Mavericks. 10-point lead and it’s Russell in the corner. And it’s denied Christie against Miller takes a three. That’s in. He’s got two made now and he’s shooting two for three. And not just the score. Miller can dish it as well. Showing great vision on that play. [Applause] Russell again. Ball. Russell kicks to Davis. Lets it fly. Dallas no good that time either. Boy, a miss like that will drive any scorer crazy, especially with the defender giving a cushion and it didn’t fall. But that’s the kind of shot they want their offense to create. You know, it can be frustrating when you make the right play and fail to reap the rewards. You just have to stay with it here. Boy, completely caught his man off guard by going to the reverse. That’s one way to make sure the shot doesn’t get blocked. floats it up for Williams. It’s stolen by Davis. And a lot of contact on that one. So, he’ll shoot two here. There’s a fluid power and athleticism that he possesses. Nearly impossible to contain Davis inside. Greg, as you were saying, beyond the blocks, what makes Anthony Davis special on defense is the way he navigates the floor. Kevin, most bigs can get picked on in pick and roll action. Davis, though, too quick and smart to take advantage of. He can slip screens, hedge, switch, and recover like he’s a 3 and D wing. That free throw no good and one of the best big men in the game. Davis continuing to prove how dominant he is. Catching up on the changes for Charlotte, Spencer Denwitty’s checked in for Brandon Miller and it’s Sexton in for ball. And the second free throw. Good. Hey DB, we don’t see a lot of them, but from what you have seen and heard, what can the Charlotte Hornets do better to improve their overall game? Well, I think one of the things you have to look at is what are they doing successfully on the offensive end and what are their weaknesses? One of the weaknesses is drawing fouls and getting opportunities at the free throw line. Tamik have the best teams do a good job of getting easy points whether in transition or at the charity strike. Man, he’ll get ahead of steam when there’s that much of a lane. You can’t get in AD’s way down low. Kicks it out to Denwitty. Williams a screen on Thompson. Denwitty for three. Drills it from outside. Well, Spencer Denwitty is very capable from deep. Don’t let him get hot. Now, now here’s Exom. Fast to Gafford. A shot by Thompson. No one’s around. A three-pointer is right on target. Thompson’s got a couple of threes now in the first for Dallas. [Music] Ston deciding where to go with it. To the inside. Here’s Williams and Davis sends it back. At this point, finding blocks comes naturally for AD. He just anticipates and attacks the basketball. Got it. Nice one there from Exom. And guys, they continue to put a lot of pressure on the interior defenders with their work down low. 51 seconds left here in the first quarter. [Applause] played in with a nice touch off the glass. He has seven. How about that move? You’ll see very few players able to pull off just sensational stuff. Thompson outside, loads it up for Davis and stolen by Williams. And here we go. The fast break with Denwitty. 8second difference between the shot clock and the game clock. He gets it in there. Now you see the agility, the footwork, the guile that Spencer Dwitty brings to the table. Make that shot and draw the contact. The Hornets shooting their first free throw of the game. Yeah. And 79% from the line as a team a season ago. Pretty reliable in that regard. [Applause] The free throw drops for Denwitty. One thing you have to love about Spencer Denwitty is his confidence. Here’s a guy who knows he belongs and he’s proving it with his play night after night. [Applause] Now here’s Excellent defended by St. for his screen on section. Exum with a wideopen look misses the deep three-point attempt. Ray Thompson has been leading the charge for the Dallas Mavericks. He comes away with 11 points in the quarter and is showing no signs of fatigue. Back right after this. And glad to have you with us folks. Second quarter of basketball. This game has not exactly been neck and neck, but plenty of time left in this one. And guys, what’s your take on the Mavericks so far? Well, this is the edge that great rim protection can give you. Total intimidation that first period. That is what has helped power them to this early lead. Hornets trail by nine and Charlotte looking at who they’ve got. We’ve got Plumbley. Pat Coneton is out there with Bridges. Then there’s Ston and it’s Green in at the two. Offensive screen. Dallas leading by nine. [Applause] Exum deciding where to go with it. Washington against Bridges. puts it up and it’s Washington missing. And so Zexton will bring it up for Charlotte. Plumbley sets the pick for Sexton. Off the mark there with the three-point shot. Mavericks shooting 52% from the floor. Nice work so far from them. Martin with a screen on Bridges. [Music] Bridges against Washington. Here’s Exom. It’s good for a second make. He’s made two or three so far. It seems every season, Doris, we have players speak out on being unhappy with their role. Well, consider Kevin that if you’re one player on a roster in the NBA, how coveted each of those spots are, but also how competitive they are. You don’t get there without that nature, which means you want to play. Just over one minute has passed here in the second quarter. Now here’s Exo defended by Ston. Lively against Plumbley. Lively the pass to Thompson. Six to shoot and he’s going up for the alley hoop. Conson with it. And it’s Martin picking him up. Crane against Thompson. Ston for three. And the rebound goes to Martin. He couldn’t believe how open he was. He just couldn’t convert it. Pass to Exom. And there’s the whistle. 3sec violation. [Applause] Hornets trail by 11. Outside Green Bridges for three. Nailed from three-point land. Bridges has got five now. I tell you the ability to act quickly to get your shot up as soon as you make the catch. That’s beautifully done by Bridges. Exum the bounce pass. Thompson for the triple. That one is good. He’s only missed one shot of his six taken on the floor. And guys getting into a nice groove here. Starting to feel it. And this is partly what the game has become, right? A matter of dueling three-point opportunities. Plumbley sets the pick for Ston inside and it’s Plumbley that time on the assist by Ston. Well, the team has got to be thrilled to see Colin Ston work the pick and roll game and find the open teammate. [Applause] Now here’s Exo. He’s tightly guarded. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. It’s going to be on Mason Plumbley. and really the defense fouling there to to prevent the layup, but that’s exactly what you need to do. The Mavericks shooting their fourth and fifth shots at the foul line in the game. The first free throw is good. Well, Thompson is known for that shooting ability, but deserves more recognition for his defense. He’s got the size, the lateral quickness, and most importantly, the desire defensively. He hits both from the strike. Probably as close to a sure thing as you can have at the free throw line. outside. Ston Conetson has it in the corner outside. Ston fires from deep and it’s the Hornets another three timeout. And it’s important Ston makes those. The more he hits from outside, the more the floor will open up. And we’ve got a timeout called by Jason Kidd. This will give him a chance to discuss some potential alterations. Both teams deciding to change it up. Substitution on the court. [Applause] [Applause] Mavericks leading by eight. [Music] And in the second quarter, a little under three and a half minutes played already. And it’s Thompson with the jam. Well, Thompson is having no trouble finding himself shots and he’ll just keep pouring him in as long as he can. And when you look at PJ Washington, his value DB lies in his defensive versatility. Well, he’s cross positional. You can switch virtually every position with him on the defensive end. There’s a strong physical presence. But maybe my favorite attribute is he’s fearless. There’s a toughness and an edge. And boy, you give him a big shot to take, he’s not going to hesitate. [Applause] Defended by man. Pass to Exom. Washington against Bridges. Out to Thompson from downtown. Hornets with the rebound. Outside. Green takes it inside. Shooting foul. As the whistle blows, he’ll shoot two free throws. The Hornets shooting their second and third free throws tonight. And the first one drops. [Applause] That one falls. So he hits both of them. And so it’s Exom with it. He’ll bring it up for the Mavericks. They’ve led by as many as 14 points. Dallas moving the ball around. Thompson passes to Lively and finished off by Wively. Well, this is the ethos that Klay Thompson plays with. He is a great scorer, but he’s willing to give it up. Bridges outside. And again, the Hornets missing. Dallas leading by 10. Time now to turn to our sideline reporter, David Aldridge. David, Kevin, thanks. The NBA 65 games requirement for postseason awards has drawn some criticism, but Adam Silver says ultimately this is about the fans and putting the best product forward. Load management was not working for us. This is having the desired effect that guys are out on the floor. Kevin. Yeah, they want to be on the floor, right? Keep them tuning in. Good stuff, DA. Thank you. [Music] Green against Thompson over Green. [Music] I believe the pass to Washington. I think you have to admire the aggressiveness with which PJ Washington plays every single night. This is his first free throw of the game. You know, this is not an area where they expect him to contribute. You know, he’s a guy that shot below 70% last season. And he knocks down the first one. Anthony Davis. He’s checked in for Dallas. Christie comes in for Thompson. Washington hits them both. Hornets trail by 14 and timeout is called by Charles Lee. He’s made the decision he wants to huddle up with his guys. [Applause] We got three making the switch here. [Applause] Conson passes to man. Oh, and there’s the alleyoop. No good there. Mavericks leading by 14. out left to the wing. Pass to Thompson against Bridges and here’s Thompson down to five on the shot clock. Now here is Davis. That’s in coming off the assist from Thompson. Nine points for Anthony Davis. Yeah, the added muscle Davis has put on helping him on these tough finishes. Flexing on him there. Green up on top to stop the run. Gets the three-pointer to fall. What a beautiful stroke from range defensively. You’ve got to try to take him out of his comfort zone. Outside Davis, the shot will not fall. Plumbley with some nice D. Bridges with it. He’s picked up by Russell. Here’s man. The three-pointer. No good. The Mavericks have gone six of 10 from the floor here in the second quarter. Russell kicks to Davis. Russell feeling it out a bit. Pass to Thompson. Jacks up a three. It’s rebounded by Charlotte. Green with the ball. Down it goes. His third basket. He’s now three for four. Mavericks leading by 11. He’s defended by Conson. Davis with a screen on Conington into the lane and it goes down. Two points. He’s got seven. And with the lead, I like the strategy here, continue to get the ball to guys who can do something with it. One thing we’ve learned in the NBA, the game is never over. So, you’ve got to continue to score, continue to build your lead. Loads it up for Davis. Bridges with the steel. to the paint. He’s looking for Plumbley and finds him. Well, if you don’t take care of the ball, fellas, that’s what can happen. Absolutely, Greg. That makes the turnover even more painful. At the end of the day, though, points. Don’t hang your heads. Let’s get refocused and play with more patience. And Jason Kid is called timeout. He wants to regroup and go over the strategy. [Applause] A different look for Dallas. Daniel Gaffford comes in for Derek Wley. Christie subbed in for Klay Thompson. [Applause] [Applause] over to the left wing. Gaffford finds Davis. Russell against Ball. Back to Davis. Here’s Russell. Up and in on the layup. Russell’s got six. You know, to me, it’s huge when D’Angelo gets to the glass. This guy has the ability to use his athleticism to his advantage. That’s tipped, pushing it up to the wing on the left on the wing. Davis, he’s guarded by Williams. [Applause] Here’s Christie. buries it from three-point range. Christiey’s got his second basket. When the defense totally lost track of him, he punishes them with a three-pointer. That’s a bad decision. Miller sets a screen for ball outside. Williams puts up a three and Davis sends it back. And that’s out of bounds. Charlotte will retain possession. [Applause] Denwitty outside. Williams has a screen for Dinwitty over Christie. Shot clock at five. Dwitty shot is off. Mavericks leading by 16. Pass to Christie and two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. It’s going to be on Brandon Miller for Dallas. They have made six of their seven attempts at the line in this one. And if we want to take a look back, they converted about 76% from the line. Free throw good. Christie and good on the second. So he makes them both. Hornets trail by 18. [Applause] outside. Ball [Applause] to end the run. Good on the three-point shot. Ball’s got 10 points in the game. This guy reads situations so well and he knows how to execute. One thing about LaMelo Ball, he can really take over at times great when he’s healthy and playing well. And a lot of that is just his feel for the game. He processes quickly and then has the talent to execute. It’s pretty hard to stop him when he’s in the flow. [Applause] Russell against ball down low. Ball’s stolen. Oh, that’s a tough pass to make there. He had a very narrow gap to squeeze it through and just couldn’t get it done. Clearly a foul. [Music] The Hornets have gone three for three at the line tonight. Two shots. And that one falls for Williams. and Williams drops them both. Mavericks leading by 13. A minute 42 left in the first half of basketball. A three-pointer off the mark. Charlotte shooting 41% from the field here in the second. Tin Whitty for three. The Mavericks pull it in. Davis has got rebound number nine now. What an effort here tonight. Pass to Christie. Russell a screen on Williams. Here’s Davis. And oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. And really one of the most challenging covers in our game. Davis hard to guard given how versatile he is. The Mavericks have shot the ball well from the free throw line. Eight of nine. The first one falls. He’s off on the second. Hornets trail by 14. Here’s Miller. Back falls. Nice feed that time from Denwitty. And more than just a jump shooter, Miller’s very good around the rim. A rare quality for a wing these days. Left side. Davis. 54 seconds left to play here in the second quarter. Davis with a screen on ball. Russell passes to Gaff. Just five on the clock. And here is Davis. Fires the three. And Davis nails the three. And this team wants Davis looking to score and putting pressure on the defense. Russell against Ball. Williams with a clean look and right away they match it with a three-pointer of their own. And an eye for an eye. Both teams working to stretch the floor. Well, that three-point shot just gives you so much room to operate on the offensive end. tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. And so it’s ball with it. He brings it up for the Charlotte Hornets. Down by 12. Williams has a screen for Miller. Shoots and Davis pulls it down. Pass to Russell from deep three-point land. And the last shot before the buzzer is off. And so we conclude the first half. Mavericks lead by 12. And now we’ll send it over to David Aldridge who is standing by Courtzine. David, thank you Kevin. Here with coach Jason Kidd. Jason, how do you feel about your team’s performance? I feel great. You know, we’re sharing the ball. We’re making extra pass, but we’re attacking the paint. If we can continue to do that, puts us in a good seat. Jason, thanks for your time. Back to you, Kevin. Thank you, David. And we’ll be back after halftime as the third quarter gets underway. The American Express halftime show. [Music] That’s it. the American Express halftime show. [Applause] And as we dive into the second half, we’ll find out if the next two quarters are any different from the first two. So far, it has been a runaway. Klay Thompson has been sensational and you know he’s going to put up points every time out, but boy, he made it look so easy in that first half. And let’s see if he continues that trend the rest of the way. He certainly has the talent and the endurance to do just that. Here’s Ball. Anthony Davis is out there with Derek Lively. Then it’s Russell. Then it’s Thompson. That’s the lineup in the game for Dallas. Davis dishes to Russell. [Applause] Sinks the triple. 10 points for him. I’ll tell you, he’ll take that all day, every day. I’m sure he was shocked to find himself that wide open. Pass to Green. Knocked away. Davis with it now. Guarded by Plumbley. Pulls it from 20 and a big bounce off the rim, but it sinks right in. Davis has got 15 points. Coming off a big game. His confidence couldn’t be higher and coach knows it. Well, the best players to me deliver night night after night after night. So, as long as he’s hot, keep riding it. The three. Bridges with the board. Hornets trail by 17. Miller kicks the ball. [Music] softly drops in the floater. Boy, soft touch from LaMelo. That floater game is on point outside Davis. Oh, and he blocks it off the glass. Wow. And it’s Miller in the corner. Pass to Green. Here’s Ball. He’s covered by Thompson. Plumbley with a screen on Thompson and the call on the shot. It sends in to the line. [Applause] The Hornets have been on target from the free throw line. They’re five of five in that department. [Applause] That free throw no good. and he sinks the second and we’re just about 2 minutes into the second half now. It’s Davis on the wing to the middle. It’s out of bounds. They say it was last touch by Miller. active hands from him as he’s able to deflect that pass out of bounds. Well, that’s what you call a game of inches. They talk about it in football. We see it right there. And that replay showed just how forceful that block was. And that block might serve as a spark for this team. We’ll see if it can ignite them. [Applause] Davis against Bridges. Six on the shot clock. Here’s Russell. Hornets with the rebound. Miller surveying the floor. Left side. Ball. Bridges sets the screen for Ball. It’s good from long range. Balls got five points in the quarter. Irrepressible confidence. LaMelo from deep. Pass to Wively. Outside for Davis. Out of bounds. Charlotte takes possession. [Applause] Hornets trail by 11 outside Green and the lead is down inside single digits. Green’s got 11 points. Yeah, this offense is rolling. They’ve been assertive, but they’re also playing under control. I think the communication on offense is working at every level right now. What a run for this group. Bridges against Thompson. Pass the ball. [Applause] Front pass the arc. He misses that time, but only five misses in his 11 shots from the field as he’s six of 11. Davis, the pass to Wively. Back to Davis. Davis with a screen on Miller. Can they get it? And Miller with the block. And good length and athleticism give Miller an advantage at the defensive end. And that kind of stifling effort on defense needs another look. And guys, that is lock down defense at its finest. Going right at the shot and then able to knock it away. Four on the shot clock. Here’s Russell with nobody on him. There is the jumper. He’s got eight. Sometimes that mid-range has got to be in play. It will help unlock the three-point game. Boy, D’Angelo Russell a threelevel scorer. Plumbley dishes to Bridges. Charlotte moving the ball around. The Hornets need to get a shot off here. Ball from long range and Davis pulls it down. Davis has got rebound number 11 for him here tonight. And foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. That’s on Miles Bridges. No question he got bumped on that shot. And a chance for just a second now to check out the scoring breakdown for the Mavericks. And guys, how about the unselfishness and all about working that ball around, shifting the defense, and just seeking out the best shot. Another thing I thought they did well was pressure. They forced a ton of turnovers, turned those opportunities into points. And that one misses. [Applause] Good on the second free throw. And here’s Ball. He’ll bring it up for the Hornets. A 12-point game. Bridges outside. Plumbley sets the pick for Bridges to the paint. He’s looking for Plumbley and finds him. Way to finish and cut into that lead a little bit. Yeah, but look at the the basket guy still shaking [Music] on the wing. Davis [Music] and they double up Davis and Lively now top of the key to the inside. Bridges with the steel. Miller outside. Pass to Bridges. Lets it go from deep. The Mavericks pull it in. Lively got rebound number 10 tonight with that last one. One thing this team likes about Miles Bridges, Greg, he plays a lot. He’s always there. And Kevin, on a couple occasions, Bridges has been near the top in minutes play. He’s got that strong 67 frame and it holds up well over the season. Outside Green. [Applause] Back to ball. Good as Green picking up the assist. 17 points for LaMelo Ball. What an electrifying game by LaMelo Ball. Is anyone more exciting than this young guy. Here’s Russell. Pass to Davis. And there’s the foul. It’s on Miles Bridges. And that’ll be his third foul so far. And Jason Kid is called timeout. He wants to make some adjustments to the game plan clearly. Some changes for Charlotte. Diabonte’s checked in and it’s Williams in for Bridges. [Applause] [Applause] And here’s Russell. Eight points for him. And then Washington with the dunk. Making the most of the screen. That’s how it’s done. And it’s in the perfect spot. Greg frees him up to get all the way to the bucket. Where was the defense? No fighting through the pick. No rotation. My goodness. [Applause] Here’s the screen and it’s in after a nice bounce off the right side. He’s got nine. Mavericks leading by 11. Pass to Gaffford. [Applause] Thompson against ball [Applause] right side. Davis. It’s deflected. Williams with the ball. He’s got five. Ball with it. [Applause] shoots out of bounds. Dallas takes possession. [Applause] Here’s Russell. [Music] Thompson sets the pick for Russell on the wing. Davis. [Applause] Oh, Davis absorbing the contact. And when Davis gets going, you are in trouble because he will just power through you to get to his spots. Williams, a screen on Thompson. Back to Williams. Here’s the three. Gets it to go from beyond the arc. Williams has got eight points. I’ll tell you, you are playing with fire anytime you leave this guy open. And they just got burned. Outside Davis. [Applause] The Hornets pull it in. [Applause] [Music] Outside ball. [Applause] Williams a screen on Russell outside Williams three-pointer. A rebound by Washington and not allowing the shooter even an inch of breathing room on that one. Right. He stays connected and great timing on the contest. And that one good boy. The defense was in perfect position, but it simply didn’t matter. He’s just too skilled, too good. [Applause] Outside ball. Williams in the post. Davis is up and that’s out of bounds. Charlotte will retain possession. Let’s take a second look at that fantastic block. And a block like that sends a message. One that says we’re not giving up this lead. [Applause] It’s stolen by Davis. And here we go over Williams and good as it just snugs right down through the net. And how about the touch on that mid-range? Davis has that shot on automatic outside Williams. There’s the triple and it’s Williams again missing. Thompson right side. [Applause] Dioate grabs the board. Diabate got his fourth rebound in this one. Williams finds ball. [Applause] It’s rebounded by Dallas. They led by as many as 18 points. Pass to Thompson. [Music] Here’s Davis. [Music] Outside Russell. Pocket six. Ball with the rebound. Ball’s got four rebounds now tonight. 146 left in the third quarter. Rebounded by Gaffford. Great rim protection to prevent him from converting. Beautiful pass to Washington. a three ball. The second effort and Davis puts it in. Davis has got 12 points in just the second half. You just beating everybody to the board, using his length, his skill set, the big fella Davis getting it done. And so it’s Charles Lee calling timeout. He wants to check in with his team and regroup. Now on the court is your a different look for Dallas Christy. He’s checked in for Johnson and it’s Dante Exam in for Russell Stton. He’s checked in for the Hornets. Preyman comes in for ball. [Applause] [Applause] 116 left here in the third quarter. Trying to end the drought. He’s now made half of those 10 shots in the game. That’s his fifth basket. Pick works well there. Not much resistance from the deep. It takes incredible effort to stay connected to the hip of the offensive player. You’ve got to want to work. Those shots good from Christie and guys getting into a nice groove here. Starting to feel it. And this is partly what the game has become, right? A matter of dueling three-point opportunities. It’s Davis on the whip, defended by man. And here’s Washington outside. Hornets trail by 16. It’s tipped and it’s out of bounds. The Hornets able to retain possession here. Marshall, he’s checked in for Anthony Davis. Number 13 Marshall. Here’s man still yet to score. outside. Ston scores his sixth bucket from the floor with that one. He’s chopped the ball 11 times. Well, what a job punching the ball to the interior and finishing in the paint. Nice. Now here’s Exum defended by man. Now exam. [Applause] down low. Here’s Gaffford and Gaffford throws it down. And in terms of size, not your typical center, but man, he plays as big as any of them thanks to that terrific leaping ability. And so it’s Dallas with a size of a lead. As the quarter wraps up, they’re ahead 16 points. They’ve had active hands and have forced a lot of turnovers in this one. Don’t go anywhere. We’ll be right back. And with the fourth quarter upon us, time is running out for this game to become competitive. Now here’s Marshall on the court for the Hornets. We’ve got Spencer Denwitty. He’s out there with Trey Man. And it’s Diabate in at the center. [Applause] Marshall with it. Working on Williams outside for Martin. Just five to shoot. Here’s Christie and it’s Dallas with another. [Applause] Hornets trail by 18. Williams. A screen on Martin. It’s rebounded by Dallas. I got 11 rebounds in the game. Martin. The pass to Marshall. Exom dishes to Marshall. Wives has a screen for Marshall. He lobbs it up. Got a hand on it. [Music] Outside Williams. Whitty. A little over a minute of the fourth quarter gone right now with the drive. Count the bucket and he’s got a free throw coming up as well. Well, use the pick and going right to the cup. I love the aggressiveness. And you know guys, with Embiid on the floor, it’s not just about his individual play. He changes everything for everyone on that team. That’s how dominant he is. It’s not just statistics. His presence alone propels him. [Applause] Just over a minute played here in the fourth [Music] to the wing right side. [Applause] [Music] Here’s Wo [Applause] back to Exom. [Applause] Let’s go. Four on the clock. Rebound by Williams. Williams has got his fifth rebound right now in the game. Wively with the screen. Here’s Marshall. And two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. Second personal foul. First team foul now at the line for your veterans. Doy Marshall taking two shots. First one falls for him. He hits one and misses one each at the line. Hornets trail by 16. Pass to man. And we’re around 2 minutes into the fourth quarter here. fires from the wing. Pulled the shot a little up, but the bounce goes his way. Dallas leading by 14. And here is Marshall. [Applause] Pass to Christie. Lively a screen on Denwitty. Oh, Lively inside and finished off by Wively. Impossible to stop the foot back when he’s got that kind of position. Agreed, Grant. Let him get his hands on it inside and finish it off. How about the activity level, the effort level? This team right now feeding off his energy. Now, here’s Marshall. He’s covered closely. Lively a screen on Williams and finished off by Wively. And how about just floating to the rim on that slam. Boy, when he gets up, I mean, he gets up beyond the arc. Good on the three-point shot. 20 points for him. And it’s Exom with the ball who will bring it up for the Mavericks. Pass to Christie inside. Here’s Marshall. Lays it up off the glass. When you allow good scorers to get uncontested shots at the rim, no wonder you’re losing. To me, this has simply stated been a complete lack of defensive attention and focus all night long. Outside Williams from the arc and Lively pulls it down. Dallas leading by 17. Outside Martin pass to Marshall. Launches it. It’s rebounded by Charlotte. The got six rebounds here tonight. Back to man outside. Williams. Latrey rebounded by Exom. Listen, that’s a look he can hit, but right now he can’t throw it in the ocean. To the middle. Here’s Christie. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. Second personal foul. Second team at the line for Dallas. Christie taking two shots. The first free throw is good. So, both teams making some changes here. [Music] and Christie drops them both. Hornets trail by 19. Ston kicks to Plumbley and Dante Axon picks up the foul. Dante, that’s his first foul. Personal foul. Second team [Applause] Plumbley against Wively. Nice passing here by Charlotte. Pass to Plumbley. Shot clock at six. And here’s Miller outside. Trills the three-pointer. A huge reason Miller went so high in the draft, his three-point stroke. It’s exactly what you want in a wing. Here’s Christie. Denwitty covering to the paint and Davis throws it down. Not surprised at all. He’s shooting it well and scoring points in budgies. Ston with the bounce pass. Miller outside from deep. Mavericks with the rebound. Definitely a situation you want to make sure you don’t give him too good of a look. Count that one. Davis has got 16 points here in the second half. And just a good job of getting a high percentage look. Davis knows how to put himself in position to attack. Back to Ston. That’s in coming off an assist from Miller. Their ability again to stretch the floor particularly in this second half. And guys, boy, when you’re hitting, it sure does work. It obviously opens up major options at the offensive end. Takes the three. That’s in for his fifth make of the night. Now shooting at a 50% clip, five for 10. And an eye for an eye. Both teams working to stretch the floor. Well, that three-point shot just gives you so much room to operate on the offensive end. Shoots it. Miller, no luck. And this is exactly what you have to do to stop him. That was a tremendous contest, forcing the miss. Offensive rebound goes back up. Davis with the bucket. Davis has got 31 points. You simply must put a body on this guy. You know, he’s going to try to get to that glass. Miller outside. Jacks up a three. It’s rebounded by Dallas. Davis is Dallas leading by 22. Exom sets a screen for Davis in the corner. Lively with it. Davis with a screen on Miller. This one for three. Bridges with the board. The Hornets have gone five of 12 from the field entering the fourth quarter. Outside Zon. Plumbley sets the pick for Ston to the inside and it’s slammed in by Plumbley. You know the assist is the key part of that play. The pace on the bounce pass. Perfect. Exom pass it to Wively. Fires the three. Plumbley with the rebound. Plumbley’s got rebound number five here tonight. Christy against Dinwid. Ston up top. Pass to Bridges. [Applause] Back to Ston. And a miss there on the triple. And it’s with the ball who will bring it up for the Dallas Mavericks. And it’s Davis missing. Miller outside in the corner. It’s Denwitty. Outside Ston. That one falls coming off Dinwidy’s feet. Sexton’s got six points in the quarter. Yeah. Coming down the stretch, they’ve become reliant upon their perimeter game. Boy, the three-point arc has been a major factor in what they’ve done here tonight. You love the aggressiveness. Davis against Bridges. Davis with a screen on Dinwitty. Christy can’t make it. And he’s a good shooter from outside, but not sure from that deep. Boy, we’re seeing it more and more. Guys looking to create additional space by stepping back further from the line. Well, the opportunistic Bridges sees you falling asleep defensively. Up and over the top he goes. Crosses over and finished off by Exom and everybody out of the way. I mean, clear the lane. We’ve got some rims to wrap. What a sensational play to get to the rack for the slam. And timeout is called by Charles Lee. It’s a chance for them to regroup and refocus. [Applause] And now we present our New Balance player of the game, Anthony Davis. And guys, no doubt who our pick is going to be. He’s made everyone else on the court look like they’re playing at half speed. It’s been total domination, and you can’t help but just sit back and admire that performance. He sure has given this crowd a treat tonight. This kind of performance only cementss his status as a fan favorite. ball with it and contact on the shot. So, he’ll be shooting free throws here. You love the fact that LaMelo Ball is not timid about drawing contact on the interior. Get that foul drawn, LaMelo. He misses the free throw. One thing that impresses you about LaMelo, the way he reads defenses and makes the game easier for everyone around him. He hits the second from the line. Dallas leading by 16. Outside Davis, it’s Washington high post. Some nice passing here by Dallas. Five on the clock. Here’s Davis. That one’s not going to go. Hornets trail by 16 on the wing. Green down low looking for Bridges. He gets it there. Oh, and it’s sent picked by Washington. Now Russell Thompson outside. Russell sets a screen for Thompson. 156 left here in the fourth quarter. They grab their own miss. Davis and he drops it in from the low post. Davis has got 33 points. relentless in their approach. Even with the game firmly in hand, this is a textbook example of playing the possession and not the score. This team is doing a great job continuing to execute. On the wing, Bridges, he’s covered by Washington. Charlotte no good that time either. Dallas leading by 18. And tonight’s battle is going to end with a very clear winner, leaving nothing to chance. Impressive win for Dallas. Not only did they shoot the ball better, but they had more assists. Yeah, I thought the passing in terms of finding the open man gave them the higher percentage shots. The ball movement was key for the win. And one of the key components to this victory, if not the biggest, was the incredible performance for Davis. He was extremely efficient offensively. got good looks and really knocked down big shots all game long. Third team foul at the line for Dallas. P.J. Washington. Two shots. Two. Two. First free throw is good. and so he hits both. There’s 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter. match up ball against Thompson and they pick up two ball and they are really racking up the assists in this one and their team chemistry is evident. These guys enjoy playing with one another. Washington kicks to Davis with some nice D and here’s Bridges. He’ll bring it up for the Hornets. They trail by 18. Outside ball. Plumbley finds Miller. Trains it from beyond the arc. 15 seconds left in the game. Covered by Miller. So, no problem for Dallas as they get the win. Some good moments throughout this one, but they have the clear advantage down the stretch. Yeah, I mean, I I love the way they executed on both ends of the floor. Completely under control for the vast majority of the game. And whenever there was a misstep, they just didn’t allow it to fester. And that’s why they’re going to walk away with the win. And now, let’s check in with David Aldridge reporting from the sideline for our player of the game. David, take it away. Thank you, Kevin. Here with AD. Hey, you guys seem locked in tonight. What was the key? Well, we came out aggressive defensively and offensively, and against a team like that, you know, you got to come out aggressive defensively first, and I think we did that through the whole 48. Yeah, you certainly beat them to the punch and you beat them on the scoreboard as well, man. Congratulations. Back to you, Kevin. All right, David. Thanks so much. And that’ll do it folks for Greg Anthony, Doris Burke, and David. This is Kevin Harland saying thanks for tuning in.
