[Music] It’s Bruins Benders Postgame Live presented by the Inside the Rink Podcast Network through inside the rink.com and the Inside the Rink YouTube channel. Subscribe now and hit the thumbs up. Let’s get the comments in the chat already roaring tonight for our Bend Dispanter later on the show presented by Evolve ABA. Our three up three down comes later as well. Uh and I’ll tell you what, the Bruins are 3 and 0. uh they’ve won again and my prediction of them not making the playoffs gets worse by the moment, but uh I still I still hang tight with it, but right now their structure and their schedule have helped them. It has uh and I’ll ask you I’ll ask you every postgame live if you’re going to hang with that prediction. Um, you know, we’ll see we’ll see we’ll see where we’re at. We’ll see where the tipping point is. But yeah, the the structure was good. Look, they should have been up by more after the first period. Alex Lion uh certainly kept the Sabres in the game in the first shots were 17-1. Uh Bruins had a bunch of really great a chances to open that thing up. Uh and it was good that they got at least one goal cuz if they go in there 000, I think the Sabres are feeling really good about themselves. Um you know, getting dominated like that for a period and and coming out of it, you know, even. So, it was good that the Bruins did get that goal. Um and then they were able to add on which was nice. Uh but then in the third it gets a little dicey and then you know scrambly moments there towards the end but they kept the puck out of the net. Um they had a bunch of empty net chances. Ridiculous amount of empty net chances that they were doing the whole I’m going to be a little unselfish and pass it to you so you can score kind of a thing where somebody needs to fire the puck into the [ __ ] net uh so we can end the game. uh and they were able to do that but not until the very end. So, you know, some anxious moments there that probably could have been avoided uh and maybe they’ll hopefully they’ll learn from that uh down the line here because you can’t have that going for going forward against good teams. No, three to one win and 10 goals on the season and nine different goal scorers. How about that? I mean, that’s something that we talked about, you know, ad nauseium before the season about secondary scoring, who was going to score, and they’ve had nine different goal scorers. Yeah. I mean, we that was one of the major ifs we were saying going in the year. Can they find, you know, guys other than Posanak and maybe Geeky that are going to put the puck in the net? And so far, they found them. You know, will that continue? Uh, we’ll see. I hope it does. If it does, they’re going to make the playoffs and you’re going to look dumb. Yeah, I I am. I mean, that they are. I mean, they they they would because I mean, the Sabres are still the Sabres. I mean, they’re still Yeah, they’re still terrible. I mean, they scored one goal in their first two games. Uh lifeless offensively until maybe second period and then maybe the third. Like just lifeless. Like if you come out 4 nothing in the season opener at home and lose and then come into that first period with one shot on net, that’s like unbelievable to me. Yeah. I I don’t really understand it. I I don’t really get it cuz they seem to have pretty good players. Like individually they have pretty good players. Like is it just Buffalo? Is that just like the big suck of the city is just closing in on them or something? I I don’t know what it is, but they have pretty good individual players. Ta Thompson when he plays for Team USA is a world beater. I mean, he scored 44 goals last year. He’s good. Yeah, Alex is good. Like, yes, you know, Rasmus Stallene is a good player. Like, the goalending I mean, tonight, Alex Lion was fantastic, but generally speaking, the goalending is not great. And, you know, the defense is kind of young. Um, and their forwards are kind of young. And you know, we’ve said it a million times, young teams in this league don’t really win. So, I don’t know what the answer is there for them. Um, but they haven’t found it yet. And I I’ll I’ll be happy if it continues that way for a long time. Yeah. I mean, I I I saw a lot of people think that the Sabres would be above the Bruins in the standings, and they showed me nothing to that nothing to that end. I mean, they’re going to be in last place in the Atlantic Division unless they get that thing fixed because right now they look terrible. And you know, the Bruins have played the Chicago Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres at home. They should win those games and they did. They should. You know, the Washington win was a good win on the road. So now you got Tampa Bay coming in on Monday. Short rest Monday afternoon. Um, you’re probably without Hampus Lynholm again, although he’s skating tomorrow. So, you know, that’s a that’s a big test. I think after that game, I can make a decision on what this team is. I think Well, really, four games in? Yeah, four games in. I’m I’m gonna tell you right now, if they lose five one Monday, then I’m sticking to my prediction. Yeah, I mean, I I think four games is probably early either way to decide um you know, what the team is or isn’t, but they they certainly if they can continue to win, you know, that’s only a positive. And, you know, they’ll probably regress to the mean here at some point, I would think. Right. I I would think so, too. Arsenog tonight, seven shots on net. Um had a hit. He was much more active than he was uh on Thursday night uh offensively. Anyway, he hit the net seven times. Yeah, he he missed the net three more times. I think the line was played five on five tonight. No, Geeki seems a little bit off to me. It does. I don’t know what it is. It could be just that Morgan Geeki is a decent player and not that good. Could be that. It could be that. You know what I mean? I mean, it could be. I thought the mid line wasn’t great either. No, they they weren’t either. Um I thought he had his moments, but you know, Jano, I mean, he’s kind of, you know, a little mistakrone for my liking for a guy who’s supposed to be, you know, fairly responsible. um had a pretty good offensive chance there on the two-on-one from Mittton that he uh that Lion got a piece of that, you know, might have been in, but um you know, and and ACont, you know, he’s always been kind of a fourth line grinder type of guy. Those guys are probably playing, you know, the Janos and Asamonts are probably playing a little above where they should be because the Bruins don’t have a lot of don’t have a lot of depth, so they have to um and that’s no fault of theirs. That’s a fault of management. Uh and giving the Bruins enough offensive talent to compete, right? Well, you know, according to them though, according to Cam Neely, they made every effort to improve the offense and it didn’t come to fruition, right? So they took four they took six preseason games and said, “You know what? Yeah, we didn’t get the offense we wanted in Meslumel.” Yeah, we’re going with you. Yeah. I mean, to try to trying to, you know, bank your offensive uh your offseason offensive, you know, hopes and dreams on Mate Blumel and [ __ ] Alex Steves. Is it even Alex? I don’t even know if his first name is. Yeah, I think it is. Yeah, Alex. Okay. So trying to bank it on two 4A guys is ridiculous. Like it’s that’s you know if if you’re serious about it you you go out and you get proven NHL guys. You don’t you don’t go for for a guys that say you say oh they haven’t really gotten an opportunity. Dallas plays young guys. Dallas plays young players. Played Stanovven played you know some other young players. Johnston. Yeah. Yeah. Johnston. So, like if Blue Mel was good enough in Dallas, he would have played. Yeah. 100%. 100%. Put 39 goals in the NHL and didn’t get a sniff for the NHL. Like, I mean, come on. I mean, that that should tell you something. It’s not like Dallas is letting, you know, young good young players just walk for no reason at all. But Cam Ney was he was salivating over the fact that he could put together this band right here. Oh, yeah. of fourthliners and grinders and and and muckers and and you know all that stuff, goons and whatever you want to call them. You know, he he he loves this [ __ ] right now. And he loves the fact that three and 0, so he can walk with his chest held out and his head up high and this is what wins in the NHL. Well, we’ll see when you start playing some talented teams, specifically particularly on the road. When you play really good teams on the road, they sucked at that last year. They got killed last year. They do. after Monday. They got a a pretty good road trip coming up here with a couple of uh you know, good teams. So, we’ll see. See if the defensive structure is good against Vegas and those types of teams. And we’ll see. Um all right, let’s get to the Benders banter presented by Evolve ABA. Evalaba offers consulting services from a board-certified behavior analysis analyst to adult day programs in residences and schools and even businesses using the principles of applied behavior analysis. How the [ __ ] was that interference on Pastor’s part? I’m confused. That was an interesting call. He he turn he gets turned around and he’s trying to get up to go and Tae Thompson like runs into him. Yeah. And there was no off. You’re supposed to get interference if you go off your line, right? To get, you know, to get, you know, head and shoulders off your line to impede someone. That’s not interference. It’s not an interference. And it happens all the time with def with when people try to puck chip pucks behind defensemen and the defenseman will go off their line to kind of hold the guy up so his other DP can go back and retrieve the puck. Yeah. In the playoffs, it happens all the time. Almost every shift. It does. So, so for a guy like when they’re already on the power play, you know, to turn, he’s not even looking at where Thompson is turns. That shouldn’t have been a penalty. I I I’ve had it with the refs starting in game two and it’s continuing into game three. Yeah. I mean, that that was basically a let’s match him call because the Bruins were on the power play, too. I mean, that kills your power play, but that shitty call, I I thought that was terrible. Uh Dan also says, “Not our best playing, but this is still a huge improvement to the second half of this year in Sterm. We tr we trust.” I will say this, they’re playing extremely hard. They’re playing this structure that Sturm has put together and right now it’s working. I mean, it’s really working and I’m really surprised that it’s working this quickly. Yeah, it seems they bought in. Um you know, they they’re kind of eliminating the speed of other teams through the neutral zone for the most part. um which is allowing the defense to go back and retrieve pucks um a little easier without the kind of pressure that that teams you know have put on them in the past and they’re not turning it over as much. The defenseman aren’t turning it over as much in their own zone which is leading to easier breakouts and you know then they can get the puck ice and up up ice and play offense. So, um, you know, it it is working now and, you know, once we see teams adjust to it, how do the Bruins adjust? And that thing will happen over the course of a season. You know, will the Bruins make adjustments is another part of it. Um, if teams start to figure out how to beat this, uh, neutral zone trap. So, um, right now it looks good. Uh, and everything’s going the right way. Um, but I’m sure they’ll they’ll run into some spells where it’s um, you know, they’re it’s hurting them a little bit or other teams are finding a way to break it down a little bit and and then, you know, it’s how do the Bruins adjust to that? Uh, Monday will be a real game, Michigan, Mike. Yes. Um, you know, Tampa Bay comes in, you know, a real wagon with high-end talent and, uh, a team that you are chasing or you are, you know, looking up at in the standings and in talent and and everything. So, it’ be it’ll be a real test, I think, uh, on Monday coming back, uh, third straight home game and then getting ready for that West Coast thing. So, uh, this is a this is going to be not only is 0 and2 coming into that game. There you go. That’s not good. They lost to the Devils tonight 5-3, did they? Okay, so they lost to Ottawa. I think it was Ottawa, right? First time 54 and then it was the Devils 5-3. Okay. So, yeah, that’s not good. That’s not good at all. And their all their all their main offensive players were held off the score sheet tonight. Oh, so Gourd scored, Ryan McDonald scored, and and Darren Radish scored. So, oh, okay. So, you’re going to look for a big game from Braden Point and Nikita. Oh, yeah. Uh, next two games will be testers, says Dan Maynard. That’s true. Competition so far hasn’t been anything to be fearful of in hindsight. And that is true. I mean, you got to win the games that are on the schedule, so you can’t really hold it against them. So, they’ve won they’re three and 0. Like, they’ve they’ve won all three games and they off to a really good start. I mean, points-wise, I mean, this is really good in a condensed schedule to get three straight. um be great to get Monday’s game and head, you know, and then really, you know, hit the ground running, but you know, regardless of the schedule, you have to play them and you have to win them. So, and we thought the Bruins are one of the worst teams in the league. So, nothing’s for nothing’s taken for granted. You can’t take anything for granted. A given. No, no, no. I mean, I think Vegas has them as the as the, you know, eighth worst team in the league, uh, in the entire league. Yes. So, um, yeah, I you can’t take any of these things for granted. You can’t expect I mean, Buffalo finished above you last year. They’re a better team than you on paper. They should come in and win this game, but they didn’t. So, you know, good for the Bruins and hopefully they can continue it on Monday. Yeah, no doubt. Um, uh, great win says TBS. Out with the fam, so have at it. Really liked Harris’s first be game with assist plus one. Couple nice hits. Um, thanks for checking in, TAS. And yes, Harris really picked up the slack for Has Lynholm who again will skate tomorrow and then they’ll evaluate him further. So, we’ll see how long he is, but it wasn’t a knee. So, thank goodness. Yeah. Uh, Zach Case that first was our best period in a long time and that’s for sure. I mean, 17 to1, you know, playing their structure. I mean, that was that was a clinic in the first period. But again, second periods have been a hard thing, a tough thing for them last couple years. Uh, and they seem to let down the second period. They come out smoking and second period’s kind of a trap. Kind of a sneaky sneaky negative for them. So, keep an eye on on that for the rest of the season. Yeah, that’s something they need to clean up here a little bit. They do. They need to make the adjustments or whatever it is. And they need to be ready to play in the second period, especially against good teams. Yeah, you would expect, especially after the Bruins dominated them in the first period, that Buffalo would come out with, you know, a vengeance, ready to ready to go and the Bruins have to match that level um in order to, you know, give them some push back. So, you know, that’s something they need to work on going forward for sure. Maddie freeze up. Might have um All right, let’s go to a different comment. Um see Travis says a three and0 record on and and we’re back. And we’re back. I’m like I’m like Zoro. I’m like uh what’s the guy who disappears? Uh I don’t know. The invisible man. Invisible, man. I’m visible again. Yeah. Uh yeah, Tra I was just saying Trav said a three and0 record. Uh unreal. And then he also said that Posa hasn’t needed to be the entire team the last two games, which is also a good point by Trav. You know, they’ve gotten goal scoring from, like you said earlier, nine different guys. Um you know, and I I like I said earlier, I didn’t think that that line uh that Poshak line was great tonight. five on five. No, but other if other guys are picking up the slack. That’s how you win games when you know maybe your top line isn’t at their best. So, um you know, good on the rest of those guys. And I’m sure that was drilled into their brain all preeason long. Everybody says we can’t score goals. Everybody says the rest of you aren’t good enough. I’m sure he’s using that Sturm is for motivation for those guys. And he should. He 100% should. If I was a coach, that’s what I’d be doing. I would be telling those guys every single day, no one thinks you can score. No one thinks you’re good enough. I would use it at will. I would use it as much as I possibly could and I’m sure he’s doing it and so far those guys have responded and hopefully that continues all season long. I I am with you. Um, hello Benders says Odyssey’s first post show for me this season. So the blueprint is set. At least we are competing every game, every shift. Worrying signs of the lack of our French productions. it is. But with goalending and good defense, you’re going to get be in, especially against these lesser teams. I mean, you got to beat all these lesser teams. Um, and and if you do that, especially in your own division, you have a real chance of sneaking in. So, that’s kind of where they’re on track right now. But the West Coast trip is a real real tester. It’s usually good to get out and bond and stuff, but they got to play good teams. The goalending has been spectacular for the Bruins in the first three games. I mean, they’re big reasons why the Bruins have won all of these games. Dwayne was fantastic again tonight. Uh, twice on delayed penalty calls in the Bruins. He had to make unbelievable saves so that the Savers didn’t score during the delayed penalty call. Uh, you know, he had one I think on the side of the net there. I think Thompson to I don’t remember who the Buffalo player was, maybe Krebs. Um but Swan like dove across with a glove save and then he had another one uh later in the second or the third where you know he makes a similar you know fantastic save on a delayed penalty call. So yeah, the goalending has been uh big key as to why the Bruins are three and0 to this point. Yeah, and that’s what we said like they they needed a really good goalending again. Absolutely. Uh and hopefully the tandem can continue to to do that. Zach says every line has scored. Can we keep it up? These guys are playing so hard. And Shawn Michael makes a good point. Playoffs or not, this group is infinitely more enjoyable to watch over the last season. And I’ve said that Sean is that Bruins fans love physical, energetic, bluecollar. You know, I’m telling you, they’d rather win the hits than win the game sometimes. Well, win the fight. I mean, look, I thought like last year’s team looked lifeless. I mean, I think Montgomery gave up and then I think the team gave up. So that was like a and then the second half of the year they knew they were terrible. So like what are you really playing for? Um so I feel like this year’s team are like competing their asses off. That in and of itself is worth your investment in these guys in this team. You know they’re trying as hard as they can. They might not be the most talented bunch, but they’re giving it everything they have every shift. And that’s all you can ask for if you know if you don’t think you know you have enough talent to compete at the highest levels and we’re back. They were they remind me of those like mid 80s to late 80s teams that were like just a a player or two away, but they played so hard and they and they scrummed and they fought and they had guys that like Chris Nlands of the world and Lyndon Buyers, God bless his soul and these guys that Jay Miller that just, you know, brought the energy every night and then when the team needed it, they threw the mits and that whole thing. So, um, you know, so I think that that’s it’s a very likable team and I thought of that last last post game. I was like, this is this is a likable bunch for this for the Bruins fans because this is what they like. You know, this is if you’re not going to win, if you’re not going to win the cup, might as well show some, you know, show some hutbah and and some fight and then the Bruins fans will get behind you, you know, little engine that could, underdog, all that stuff. So, yeah, absolutely. Michigan Mike says, “Who’s in goal Monday?” I say it’s swaying. I think he had a light load tonight and you don’t play again till Thursday. I think you throw him in there Monday. Yeah, I think it could. I think it might be KPI on Monday just because it’s an afternoon game. Um and then you give Swayman the net to, you know, start the road trip. Who are they playing? Thursday night, right? Thursday night they play. Yeah. Yeah. It’s uh is it Vegas? Is Seattle? Who is it? Vegas. I’m going to look right now. I don’t know who it is. Um but yeah, they don’t play till Thursday. Vegas on Thursday. Vegas. Yeah. So maybe I think they go I think they go. Yeah, I think they go um copy on Monday and then Sway on Thursday. Okay. Uh heaviest team in the league says Zach Cast. Uh yeah, heavy. You know, we’re not going to be beaten by heavy teams anymore. And one of the tallest teams in the league, too. Yeah. Tall. Tall. Yeah. 6 61 or 6’2 average or something. I don’t know. 220 or something when they play basketball uh on the off days do great. Uh 82 and0 dream is still alive says stick go bees. Uh Dan made it. I’m really hoping I’m not working for the first Panthers game. Really want to see how that plays out against Marshy. Interesting point about Marshy that someone brought up on X. Are the Bruins better off without Marian or if they a better team without Marian? And I thought about it. At first I was like, “Oh, come on.” But then I was like, “You know what? Let me think about this.” And I thought about it and I say, “No, I say I think Marian would be great on this type of team.” I agree 100%. I think he would be fantastic on this team. I think he would had some scoring punch, which they desperately need. I just think the pressure of the captaincy and and him having to behave a certain way um because of the way the Bruins want their captains to act and all that I think is lifted when he went to Florida. He can be the pest. He can be the [ __ ] that he always was before that. And and they embraced that. They embraced that style of play. I think it freed him up to play more the way he wants to play. And I think he’s better that way. I think he’s better being a in-your-face, you know, pain in the ass pest. I think that’s what got him into the league. I think that’s what made him one of the best players in the league um first stretch and I think that’s what he’s kind of gotten back to in Florida. He had a a beautiful goal tonight. He almost scored another one. We he undressed somebody else. I mean, he’s he’s really uh embraced down there and they love him and with good reason. I mean, you know, when he’s on your side, you know, he’s a guy you love. So, um, without a doubt. Going to be tough to go against him. Without a doubt. How over many years. Uh, loss of Barov and and Kachchuck are aren’t hurting Panthers at all right now. Sucks for the rest of the East, says Matthew Curtis. Look, they’re they’re a wagon. They’re deep. They’re well coached. They and they have a pedigree. They believe they will win because they’ve won back-to-back cups. Like, they just have that confidence. They play their style correctly as a unit. They plug in guys. They get it done. It’s just it’s a welloiled machine. It really is. And it’s, you know, they after a while they’ll catch up to them. But you know what? They’ll probably go get Gino Malikin. If Barov can’t come back later on, you know, they’ll probably go get a couple of guys. They absolutely will. You know, they’ll they’ll make another run. Uh Seps today. Dan Maynard, double scoop raspberry preworkout. Listening from inside the gym on leg day. All right, Danny, you get those thighs [ __ ] pumping. Jesus Christ. Put it up. Put it up on the big TV so everybody sees it. Yeah. Yeah. Dan. Yeah. Put it up on the big TV. Yeah. Share. Share us on the big TV. Screen screen. What is that? Screencast that thing. Screen air. Airplay that whatever the hell. Aircast or whatever it is. Don’t don’t end up in a cast, you know. Pay attention. Smitty’s out of the October’s fest, so I’m back to the porch rocker. Finishing up the summer brew. Oh boy. Realistic take will be right above right above 550 against 70% of the league and come short against contending teams. Will be a hard decision for Sweens come deadline. It’s a good point. Odyssey’s uh it’ll be interesting to see. I think that they’re anywhere near it. They’re going for the playoffs cuz that’s what they want as an organization. They want the playoffs. They want some gates 100%. They want some ticket sales. So, they’re gonna they’re gonna add a piece or two if they be feel they can make the playoffs. They might it might be a add in subtract thing. It might be, you know, unload a Casey Middlestad or a Pavo Zaka, you know, because those are, you know, contracts you might be looking to get rid of that are still kind of manageable to bring in some better talent. Who knows? um right you know so it could be an add and subtract kind of a thing but I think if they are you know in the chase they’ll certainly look to add some some scoring uh at the very least Dan Mayor says do you need to put your glasses on you got a squint contest I am trying I so I need uh what is it called the progressives new eyeballs oh yeah well I do I 100% need those uh so I need progressives so I can’t read the the chat um without squinting. Uh but if I put my glasses on, then it’s blurry anyways. So, it’s like just far enough away so that I can’t really read it at all. Sweet. Sweet. I’m going to make [ __ ] up and have you respond to it. Yeah. I mean, you should because I can’t [ __ ] see anything. So, that’s great. Sorry, John. Good. Um but yeah, new eyeballs would be fantastic. Can you get me those from that lasic? It’s a lasic surgery. Yeah. I I wish I I wish I could. We’ll get a couple more sponsors. We’ll pay for the lasic. Can we get a lace people to sponsor it and I can do like a sponsored by Lasic. You could do like the like that uh awaken 180 like the thing on on Wii. Everybody lost weight. Yeah. You know, we’ll do awaken 180 and and uh we don’t need the hair club, but but we’ll do uh we’ll do the lasic. No. Yeah, we’ll do that. Maybe hims. We get some dick pills in here. Yay. You can’t have too much of that. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Let’s get Let’s get people having sex. Yeah. Nothing wrong with that. It’s natural and it’s and it’s, you know, procreation. Yeah. I mean, I think the pills are all natural. Needs to be done. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They’re I’m sure they are. It’s greatly packaged by natural. Uh even though this team is going 82 and0, we can all agree the forward group isn’t good enough to be contenders. Correct, Pedron. Let’s say the D sway are great all year. Who are realistic scorers to target at deadline? Well, Martinius is in the news all the time about how he hates where he is and he could be moved. The question for me is like what are you going to give up for assets? The Bruins do have, you know, backto-back years with two first round picks. So, they maybe include one or two of those. Maybe they do they take Zaka? Do they, you know, they’re a contending team. Do they take a Zaka? Uh maybe not Middle Stat, but you know, maybe you can work something there. Um maybe maybe an Adrien Kempe. They’re not close with the King. So, you know, maybe you work that deal. Maybe that’s something that you really go hard for. But like as Smitty said, they’re going to take something off and put something on. So, there’ll be addition and subtraction. But, um yeah, I don’t I don’t know. I mean, I don’t know what they’re willing to part with. I don’t know if they’re willing to part with a couple of those first round picks. I don’t know. I would I would be willing to part with basically anyone from my forward group not named Parsons in order to bring in Naturius. Yes, I would agree. No one else is more valuable than Nature’s in that group. No. So, so absolutely take Naturius. If he wants to be here and he wants to be with his check buddies and and do that thing, then yeah, get him. He’s a 70point guy. He’s a dynamic offensive player. He helps your power play. He helps your he he’s probably if he he creates a better second line, much better second line potentially, whatever. First line, second line, I don’t give a [ __ ] But that’s the type of elite talent that you’ve been preaching, they need. So go get them. Absolutely. I would do that in a heartbeat. There’s no doubt. I would be in on him. I would be in on Kempe. Um even some of the mid-level guys, look, the the the Bruins top six is not very good overall. So, um I would I would certainly be willing to bring bring in, you know, even some of those mid-level like the, you know, I mean, Besser resigned or whatever, but a guy like that that maybe is not the top tier, the Kempe and the Miners and Natases, but you know, just underneath that, um I’d be willing to bring some of those guys in because they’re better than what you have. And then that pushes everybody down a line, which is probably more where they really realistically should be. Sure. Uh, Bruins 1970. Both goals that got by Sway this year have been deflections by Demon. He has been sharp. Corp too. Uh, Odyssey’s. And holy [ __ ] what a depressing team. Buffalo is. Sorry, John. There must be some studs opting for a trade there. Darene Thompson. I know if like Tuck is another guy. He’s asking for the moon. Uh, I don’t know if I’d give it to him, but he’s asking for the moon. He grew up in Buffalo. He grew up in Buffalo. He is. But Jesus, if he wants, you know, you know, $10 million a year, I don’t know if they do that. I mean, they should. They should. Yeah. I mean, it’s he’s a hometown guy. The team stinks. Like, if you’re not going to give it to him, who are you going to [ __ ] give it to? That’s another good point. Yeah. They need more than Tuck and Thompson. Yeah. I mean, like, who’s wanting to stay in Buffalo? That’s a guy who probably would want to stay in Buffalo. Pay the [ __ ] guy. Pay him. There you go. Kevin Adams is the by all accounts. I mean, we crush on all the time. He’s a [ __ ] by all. I mean, he sucks at his job. Like, I don’t know. He still has that job. I don’t know. You know, they’re just they’re just a tangled mess of Yeah. Uh Adrienne says, “But seriously, tonight’s sip is a canned margarita.” Adrian margaritas. Yeah. Get after those. Wen says, “Half cut before the game even started. Sipping Kraken spiced rum. Worth staying up for unlike majority of last season.” That’s 100% true. Uh guys, please remember that Blue Mel was recommended by one of the best forwards in the NHL. Yeah, I know. Michigan Mike, but just because David Posnock’s a great player doesn’t mean that, you know, he evaluates talent. You know, I mean, he probably said, “Hey, go get this guy because you aren’t going to do anything else and you don’t have any other options.” So, get this guy. Maybe he’ll kick a couple in. You know, you know who you know who I think um might be one of the better gets for them is the power play coach, though, because the the entries have looked much better. That thing was buzzing around in the first period. They didn’t score, but they had a bunch of great chances. They seem to be they seem to be I mean, it got, you know, they had some moments where it didn’t look great, but overall, I would say they seem to be playing the power play with more urgency. They’re they’re trying to win more pucks. They’re putting pucks in better places. They aren’t just going through the motions, which I think last year it looked like it’s zip the puck around now. Stagnant. It didn’t look great. I think at least this year they’re trying some different things. They’re they’re moving a little bit more. They’re they have a a more of a shot mentality. Uh so I think that thing on the whole looks a lot better and and that’s all that Steve shot from uh from Dallas, you know, the power play coach. So you got to get Oh, there you go. I mean that’s from a good from a good squad that a good power play. So certainly helps. Uh Dan Mayor says question. Can you explain to me exactly what Chow’s job is on the team? Not being a smartass. I’m actually not 100% on what it is. It’s essentially what Adam McQuade used to be. He was like, you know, he was helping the defenseman, mentoring them, and then being kind of a go around and and be a face of the organization, talk to players, get a read, a little bit of player development type piece, but McUade went to director. So, this is kind of Char taking on that role, I think it seems. Yeah. He’s like a sounding board advice to young guys. You know, they can pick his brain. Um, he can talk to them about defense. he can mentor the defenseman. He, you know, he’ll get an overview of kind of the prospects in the organization and he can go down to Providence and look and talk and so forth. And yeah, um I think eventually it’s growing him for the for a front office position. I think it is. I think it is. At some point, whatever that is, it’s that next guy up. I think if it happens. Uh Adrienne says, “Smitty, order a second pair of occupational progressives with your prescription. And it makes the 2 to six foot range bigger and perfect for computer desk work. Speaking from the same experience. Hey, whatever makes it look bigger. Go get those things. You know what I’m saying? I don’t need to help myself. I I need to get those to the to my the other people. You want the other people look bigger. Okay. My wife has regressive, so you know, maybe that’s a good thing. Boom. Boom. Yeah. Here you go. Uh Zack in a first. Zaka in a first for Kempe says Zack A. Uh, I would do that. I would. I don’t know if the Kings would. No, they won’t, but I would. You’d probably have to throw in throw in Potra and those guys because they don’t have much value. I think I think you’d have to throw in like a Lorai or somebody like that, right? You know, and I’m sure the Kings would be asking for like Hagens or somebody like that, you know. You might have to throw in a Zealers or Will Moore. I don’t know. He might. He might. But it would probably be more somebody like that than a guy that’s, you know, toiling in the AHL right now. It would probably be a college guy. One of your 4,000 guys on BC or somebody like that. So I’ll tell you, how about Dean Lerno scoring his first college goal? Looked really good. Has looked good. He’s looked really good. In his first two games, I mean, I mean, [ __ ] fingers crossed. Sorry, John. [ __ ] fingers crossed that Dean Lerno is the next Taige Thompson. Oh my god. Like, can you be that, please? Dean, for God’s sakes, please. He is. Then you get your word. I mean, his goal he had some He has some moves. He He’s got some hands kind of like Tage does. And he’s got a good job. That was a snipe that he scored on. It was He’s thrown his weight around a little bit now as a as a This should have been his freshman year at BC. He went early. They were in a Yeah, he was in a tough spot. He was in a They put him in a tough spot. He was in a tough spot and he and he admitted it. Sweeney admitted everybody admitted it was a rush job and they shouldn’t have done that, but now he looks like a different player. He does. Uh Jonesy says, “I honestly have no idea who Jordan Harris is. I thought he revolution.” Uh uh Y2 Harris was a very good player. Yeah, that’s why Jones is a BEu guy and he played at Nor Eastern. So that’s why he doesn’t know the guy. That’s why he doesn’t know. Yeah, he’s from Hil Hilone. Hil and Nor Eastern. Yeah. Uh LNO is heating up in BC. Bees could be really strong down the center in a couple years. Hagens, LNO, Minton. Sure. I’m for trading part and Lorai. I’m for trading them too now. I mean, a couple years ago, I would have called you crazy and would have hung on to those guys and hugged them dearly, but now I’m like, eh, if you can get something for them, which I don’t think you can, uh, go ahead. If you can enclose those guys in a in a nature’s trade, I would do it in a minute. Yeah, I wouldn’t even it wouldn’t even I wouldn’t even think twice. I really wouldn’t. Wouldn’t it I would do it in a second in order to to bring uh nis in. Travis says, “Throw in Brown and Tuy for some cracking rum.” If you bite your tongue, Travis, Tufty is a friend of the show. We can trade anybody off of Providence except for Tuy. Tuy deserves to be on the Bruins for crying out loud. He does. Puty on the Bruins. Yeah, he shouldn’t be toiling on Providence. He should be with the Bruins. He’s a friend of the program. Yes. Sit him sit him on the ninth floor instead of beach. Yeah, send Beer down to get some reps, AHL reps. and bring Ty up here to to play with the big boys. Here’s a question. Is is is uh Bri just going to rot on the ninth floor all year long? Is he going to be scratched like 52 times this year? It’s like crazy. Him and both make $100,000 $900,000 a year and just sit there. Um maybe I mean look, there’s going to be an injury in the bottom six at some point. Yes, there will be. And either he or VL is going to get the crack. I wonder if it would be amazing if VL makes it in. I’m telling you, it’ll be VL before. Yeah, especially if it’s on the wing. If it’s on the wing. Yes. He had a better preseason than Beich did. For sure. He did scored a couple, right? Yeah. You could have made a case that he should have been in the lineup. Yeah. Even though, you know, I mean, I’m not a big ground ve fan, but but he uh Yeah. Yeah. Um, he had a good he had a good preseason. He earned it. He earned it. He earned it. He he really did. Um, let’s see what else we got here. Uh, no need to dresser. Uh, he really isn’t. Cab says Lerno is so big compared to all the other NCA players. He is. It look like a dad playing with his sons out in the freaking pond. Um, let’s see. Sturm reminds me of a German general guiding his troops to completely buy in. Yeah, I mean, let’s pump the brakes on Marco Sturtorm. Loved him as a player. Um, and he seems to get their ship right. But look it, they also had some a lot of instability. They brought in a bunch of new guys who they knew would buy in, you know, good veterans, pro pro players that would buy into whatever. Uh, they actually got guys who are who kind of shape an identity for. It wasn’t just a mismash of guys. Like you can tell like what they’re trying to do, which you can agree or disagree on on that, but at least they have a common denominator about them, right? You know what I mean? So that’s that’s the other thing. You may not 100% agree with the identity that they picked, but at least they picked one. They did. Trying to play to that. And if you can do that and the guys buy into it, that’s half the [ __ ] battle right there. Sorry, John. But and and I think another point is they brought in some guys that were Sturm guys like Ison was a Sturm guy. He had him previously in the Kings organization. He had Tanner Jano in the Kings organization. So he’s coached some of these guys before. so they knew what to expect so they could help, you know, kind of usher in the system and and, you know, buy in and help with that whole process of, you know, getting everyone on board. So, um, you know, so far um, you know, it’s looked good. Um, Sturm Sturm’s doing the right things. The team’s buying in. They’re scoring goals. The special teams has been much better. The the goalending has been much better. I mean, a lot of those ifs that you were looking for that you were worried about at the start of the season, so far they’ve broken the Bruins way, you know, with the exception maybe of the injury to Lindholm. Hopefully, it’s not too serious, but Mhm., you know, things have have gone your way so far. Have gone the Bruins way. Hopefully that continues. But it’s a long season. It is a long season for sure. And it starts with this West Coast trip. It should be a doozy. Uh, Pesman says, “I’d rather dress one less player than play Beecher.” [ __ ] Beecher. Wants to put it wants to put a defenseman rotate the defenseman into the fourth line. Yeah. Um, uh, let’s see. Hot take. Potra is a bust, says Travis. Um, and Patra has unfortunately had his chance, says Dan Maiden. It’s not his fault. They [ __ ] him around and he didn’t have much of a chance to develop into the NHL. I think partly true. I think they had him play way too early because they needed him. Uh but then look, he’s slight. He’s still young. He’s 21. Um you know, he’s he needs to really develop his body more and and also avoid those hits. You know, it’s just Yeah. His skating style, I think, kind of lends itself to getting to getting hit. I don’t think he can his peripheral vision when he’s skating. To me, it doesn’t seem like he sees a lot of those coming. Um, and I don’t know if that’s something that he can, you know, move on. I don’t know if that’s something that he can just change and have that be better. So, that might be an issue his whole career. He might he might have a a decent NHL career and put up some points and and be, you know, okay, but I think he might be injuryprone his whole career just because, yeah, um, he is kind of slight and his skating style. I think, you know, lends itself to getting hit like that. Well, Travis Travis has the Bruins missing the playoffs like me and Cab says they can make the playoffs because they’re playing decent hockey and you don’t have to be that good to make the playoffs, which is probably a valid point. That is a valid point. That’s 100% a valid point. You can team and make the playoffs. You can you can you can um ma Matty do a shout out for Brazo. Yes. Odyssey’s last postseason, last post game, I said that Brazo scored three goals in his first two games and said he wouldn’t get past 10 and then T-Bos says over under 25 and I’m like yeah under and I’ll bet the house on it. So uh yeah, good for browsers, you know what I mean? Brazers.com coming through as it usually does. Uh well down uh if Potra is traded, who do you think he’d suit? Or is that a tough question to answer? I mean, it is Dan. Um maybe West Coast, maybe uh you know, some other style. Maybe, you know, throw him in the Chicago Blackhawks. They’re all 5’9, 150. Yeah. Throw him on them. Uh I don’t know. I mean, right now I don’t think he suits anybody in the NHL because I don’t think he’s quite an everyday NHL player who could play 82 games in the postseason. I don’t think he can do it. So, I’m with you there. Out if he can. And that’s too bad because I loved Potra when he came and I still like him, but I don’t know if he’s going to get there. Yeah. I mean, he’s feisty and he’s got some vision, but you know, um I I just I you need to see him kind of put it all together, I think. And you know, we’ve said for a long time that he probably needs some AHL development and hopefully he’ll get that this year and, you know, get some confidence back and then have that be able to translate to the NHL level. Um, for sure because they they certainly, sorry, they could certainly uh, you know, use some more offensive talent. Well, they need his vision and hands and and passing ability for sure. Um, someone like that, but Mitten right now is a better version of him. So, sure, that’s that’s kind of where we’re at. And if another guy jumps over him, like you you start to run out of room because, as I’ve said before, he’s got to be the second line center. I think that’s where he needs to be pegged. He can’t play wing. He can’t win battles and he’s not going to play in your bottom six, and he’s certainly not a top line. So, it’s it’s like second line center or bust for him, I think. So, you know, we’ll see. Three up, three down. the up is uh number three was Jeremy Swayman. Sway didn’t get a lot of you know but when he needed to he made a couple of saves there and he’s been sharp early on so we’ll give him the three. And then number two is Pablo Zaka scores his first goal of the season. U really nice goal through traffic and then uh and then I wish he would shoot more like David Cr say about creature all the time. Shoot more, shoot more, shoot more. Zaka is the same type of thing. Yeah, both from Chetchio. So maybe that’s something. I don’t know. And the number one is Jonesy’s favorite player, Jordan Harris. Yeah. Uh who had a great first game in subbing in for Aas Lynhome, which was needed. If he has to play again Monday, that’ll be a real test for him. But playing with Peak, uh I thought they did pretty well. And Peak’s been steady Eddie. Like Peak doesn’t get much acclaim, but he’s been good since he got here. And he makes like little to no money, less than three million a year. like he’s been a really good value for them for a while. Like he’s just steady. He is. He’s steady. He doesn’t really offer much offensively, but he’s tough in his own zone. He doesn’t usually turn the puck over. Makes bad turnovers. Um yeah, so he’s been he’s been good and I thought Harris was good with him tonight. You know, obviously he had the assist on Zaka’s goal with a nice pinch down the wall and then find Zaka there in the you know, high slot left wing circle and and uh it was a nice play. So hopefully Harris, you know, gains some confidence from that and if he has to play Monday, he’s, you know, ready to go. Sure. And just quickly before we get to the the down, Dan Mayor says, “Thoughts on Elias Lynhome this year? He seems to be better.” Elias Lynholm is better, I think, for three reasons. One, health. Two, confidence. Three, Parson. There you go. I’ll I’ll say I will agree with all those things. And I think um you know an addendum to number two, I think the World Championships really helped him out a lot. I think so. He gets a confidence. He was really good in the World Championships. Kind of saw the puck go in again. Um you know, was healthy obviously and and um and I think with the Bruins at the end of last season playing on that line with Geeki and Passock, they found something a little bit there too. And so, you know, having uh, you know, a good last few weeks with the Bruins and then going into the World Championships and playing well and then, you know, bringing that into the summer or whatever. I think uh that all led to him having a good start to this year. And hopefully that needs to continue. Does not hopefully it needs to continue for this team to be um, you know, any good. No doubt. All right, three down. Uh, number three, the Frasier Mint line. Not great tonight. Um, you know, other than the twoon-one where Minton set up uh Jano for that nice um chance, they, you know, didn’t really show up. Had some turnovers. I didn’t really notice them physically, which you have kind of in the first two games. So, um, you know, for that line to be effective, I think they need to be physical. I think they need to cause turnovers. I think they need to play below the goal line and get pucks to the net. And you know that’s how Jano scored earlier where you know AC gets the puck to the net and Jano bangs in the rebound. Um and they really didn’t do a lot of that tonight. So they need to get back to that if they want to be um effective. Number two uh Yoki Haru just kind of you know how to just I don’t love his game. Like I just don’t I don’t I don’t know. Like yeah, you know he gets kind of pushed. She’s kind of small. She gets pushed around a little bit. Um, it reminds me of a he reminds me of a grizzly kind of, but without maybe the the passing ability and the agility, skating ability and the hockey ability. Yeah. I don’t know. He’s like he’s he’s steadyish. He doesn’t seem to make a ton of mistakes, right? He doesn’t he doesn’t really offer much at all. Like I don’t know. I mean, I guess that’s for a third pair guy. I guess that’s fine. you know, you don’t really notice him, right? That’s not really a bad thing, I suppose. But, you know, I guess you like a little bit more from him as well. Um, and then, um, number one, uh, the the Sabers. The Sabres. Yeah. Yeah. Um, just like I said before, I I I wonder if the whole city of Buffalo is just drowning them in suck and they just can’t get over the hump. I mean, 14 years in a row without making the playoffs. the longest streak of anyone in the NHL. Uh, that tells you all you need to know really. I don’t know how you keep your job as a GM if that’s the case. I mean, I just don’t know how you do it because like I don’t know. I don’t know. I mean, they’ve had top picks like Don and Power is like not what people thought he’d be. He was a stud coming into the league. Hasn’t been that guy. He’s like a second pair Dman. Um, you know, Tuck and Thompson and they’ve had Last year they had Burka, you know, they’ve had players who can play. Yeah. Last year they went on that run. Remember they went on like a winning streak. They was terrible. Then they went on like a winning streak where they were like balls to the wall and then they just ran out of gas. But last year come out of the gate, they were horrific. They were. So I don’t know. Yeah. Without Yeah. I just wanted to quickly chime in and uh go back to something that was early on in this season about some other folks being the one and only interactive Bruins postgame show. Well, they didn’t show up for work tonight. So, cheers, boys. Okay. Cheers. Cheers. Yeah. Other people claiming to be the the only interactive postgame show when we did it all last year and the playoffs before that and this year as well. And it’s totally interactive. I’m not sure where that came from, but you know, consistency wins in this league. Wins. Yeah, we said it all along. You got to be consistent. That’s how you That’s how you stay an NHL player. That’s how you you stay you play with the big boys. You got to be consistent. If you don’t show up, then you know, you’re you’re a minor leager. You’re a you’re a nobody. You’re a hasband. You know, you just can’t get behind it. Yeah. Can’t get behind it. Um Yeah. Sweeney Odyssey says Sweeney gets some self- gloating about the Mittenkin all over the place. Press conference, pregame interviews, like Yeah, he’s all about Mitten cuz he he wants that TR. Like he he Sweeny’s an egoomaniac. Look it. He he loves himself. Some Sweeney and uh he wants to tell you how smart he is. Like he wants it. He’s he’s he’s bathing himself. Oh my god. Frasier Mitten right now. on the pregame on the pregame show. As soon as they mentioned Frasier Mitten, he started to smile and then his [ __ ] the table started to move because he was getting a boner. It was it was like he was half chubbed already. Like as soon as he mentioned Minton and then he was ready to talk about it like we love him. He’s so mature. He has a 200 foot game. Like he was he was drooling. He was responsible. It was it was just it was almost embarrassing. It was it was it was embarrassing. It was like I mean you never really hear that from a coach or a GM in that way like especially after three games in the league like or three games in the season like you usually don’t get ahead of yourself like that when you’re a GM. But he totally he said they wanted to I mean he’s going that far. Oh we our scouts were looking at him to take him in the draft and we weren’t able to draft him and then he’s using his you know Harvard coach [ __ ] Oh yeah, marketing talk to, you know, to say why they ended up, you know, trading for him anyways. But, uh, yeah, it just, uh, listening to him talk about Mitten. Yeah. Makes, uh, turns me off. Yeah. Tell you, it’s really I was uncomfortable. You know what I mean? I thought I was going to get some I was going to get hit with some flying debris. Like, I was uncomfortable. Uh, McCaulay Martin says, “Humor me voice. Whose jersey should I get to celebrate the new jerseys aside from the obvious top guns cuz I already have too many. Yeah, you throw Yeah, I think you get like a black zatty daddy. I think you get just a Sorov. You go you go that you go you go minty fresh. Yeah, I was going to say you go so fresh and so clean clean. You go Frzier right there. Yeah, he’ll be he should be around for a bit. He should be. Uh well I mean Twiny is going to going to resign him because he’s pretty much you know gagging on it. You know it’s it’s tough because this this team doesn’t have a ton of stars you know it really doesn’t like other you know once you get past you know the obvious you know Makavoy Boston um it doesn’t it doesn’t happen after those two guys I mean who do you invest in? I mean, you could go you go Hagens. We talked about that. Hagens might not be a bad one. Um, you know, yeah, there’s not, you know, you you’d be taking a chance on anyone else that there might not be around, you know, right? Well, that’s the thing. Yeah. You know, you spend $600 on a authentic jersey, you know, they may not be around in a year or Maybe maybe a hold out for Martin Natus or uh Kempe or someone. I don’t know. Or Hag. Yeah, Hagens. Hagens. A Hagens 10. I think it’ll probably work 10 would would be fire. That would be that’ be really nice jersey. Yeah, I I’m I I don’t know. I might wait. You might wait until the end of the season when Hagens finishes up his BC uh season and then, you know, plays in a handful of games with the Bruins. till then and buy that some [ __ ] right away. Yeah. No, no doubt. Uh, all right. Look ahead to uh Monday afternoon, 1:00 on uh disingenuous day. What do they call that? Indigenous people day. Indigenous people’s day. Yeah. Um an [ __ ] He is. I mean, we discovered that 500 years later, but he’s uh here here here we are. Yeah. Um Tampa Bay that was already inhabited. That a boy. Yeah. This is mine. No, it’s not. Yeah. Um. All right. So, what’s your prediction for Monday? Uh, Monday, I think they finally fall. I think Tampa’s gonna I think Tampa’s going to stomp them pretty hard because Tampa’s 0 and2 and the good players didn’t have good games. So, I think it’s going to be like I’m I’m going to say like 4-1. 4-1. Okay. Who’s the pick to click? Who’s the goal scorer? Who’s the goal scorer? I’ll say um I’ll say pasta on the past. Okay. All right. I’m going to I’m going to give one to Geeks. Geeks against his brother. Oh, there you go. Both geeks score. How about that? Oh, both geeks. Both. Both. Both geeks. Yeah. What happened? What happened to Optimistic Smitty? Says pros 1970. Yeah. Well, it’s not every go 82 and0. So, right. There’s that thing. Yeah. they drop this week. Uh yeah, I mean I don’t know. May the Bruins uh get down 4-1 and then come back and win 5-4. There you go. Yeah, it might be one of those loopy like 65. Like it’s a matinea, so you never know. You never know what happens in matineese. But I think a sleepy three nothing Tampa Bay win is I mean the Bruins used to always be awful in matineese. So that’s part of better lately. They have been better lately. So maybe they win. Maybe they win. They’re actually fairly entertaining games lately of the matineese for whatever reason. But um good breakfast or something. I don’t know. But um but hey, thanks everyone for joining us again on the uh the very first interactive post game for the Boston Bruins. First and only interactive post game. Yes. Uh Bruins Benders podcast right here. Uh the only one that matters. How about that? That’s it. The only one that matters. The only the most fun, the most uh you know, irreverent. It’s right here. Yeah. Um, many thanks to Evolve ABA for sponsoring and thanks to you folks for jumping in the comments. We’ll see you Monday afternoon after the Bruins Daylight. Till then, as always, go.
