Guys, the Ravens lose again in the first half. They had us. We thought they had a chance, but Kevin, it looks like this team just doesn’t have it without Lamar Jackson. No, I mean, look, this Ravens team right now, six and a half points per game in the two games that they have not had Lamar Jackson this year. I mean, it is unreal. And I see everybody talking about it on social media, certainly in the comments as well here and on we we did the watch along in the instant reaction and here as well on the squad show. Don’t let anybody tell you Lamar Jackson is not the most valuable player in the NFL because this is what this team looks like without him. He is the glue. We all know that. But man, I mean just talking about where this Ravens team stands at one and five. Sam, you I think you hit the nail on the head there in the first part during the intro. It’s like, yeah, you know, Lamar’s coming back after the buy that essentially was all but confirmed by John Harbaugh, but he’s coming back to a team that’s one and five, and you have to go on one heck of a run through 11 games here to end your season. And nine and two is probably the minimum there that you have to go. You know, 10 and seven was the worst record in the NFL that made the playoffs last season. So, nine and two over your last 11 games is no easy task. Yes, the schedule opens up in terms of opponents, but you know, you gotta still wonder after, yes, the defense did look better for sure. They also, the Rams maybe gifted them six or seven opportunities in this game with drops or other weird plays. Sean McVey inexplicably not going up by three possessions against this Ravens offense late in the fourth quarter, I guess late in the third quarter, early in the fourth. I I I just don’t know where this team turns. I know where they should turn. I know what they should do, but I’m not sure they’re actually going to do it. Prime Time Gala Movies. I never want to hear anyone say Lamar has a super team around him ever again. Bruh, I agree. There is just something to be said about what eight does when he is in and when he is ready to go compared to when he is not in. Doesn’t matter if you think that he is a guy that you can just replace. You can’t. You just simply can’t. He is man remarkable. And again, it showed where you’re only putting up what 10 points and three points in the last two games. Prime time gala movies. I love your commentary. You’re absolutely right. This is one of those cases where yes, the defense played a touch better, but the offense yet again when it got into the red zone, we thought, you know, the first opening drive, I was being fooled. I was like, “Oh, they’re going to do it. They’re looking the part, man. Cooper Rush. Okay.” And then it just gets into a position where they’re kicking a field goal and it just doesn’t get any better. I think that is something that we’re going to look back on on this particular game and what those games look like moving forward. I know you’re saying 9 and2, but I just don’t see that happening. I don’t see that being possible the way this Ravens team is played offensively, defensively, and special teams. And a bit of a clarification, Ali made a make a great point. One and five start under the Harbar Jackson era. or Harbaugh did start 2015 going way over one and five and that was a that was a tough year for them but as it stands now Harball Jackson error one and five start disappointing of course Lamar Jackson didn’t play in this game who does play Cooper Rush who struggled mightily in this contest didn’t do much of anything it was the running game that was getting things going passing game wasn’t able to complement that up to the point where Tyler Huntley had to come in in the fourth quarter to save the day some people assume and maybe rightfully so that Huntley probably should have been a starter in this game going in. Q, what are your thoughts about that? Do you think it matter who the quarterback was coming into this game or did Tyler Huntley really need to be the QB coming in? Tyler Huntley is getting u the proper love that he should and we’ve seen him go out there and really lead this ball club when uh there were times in the past where Lamar was injured and obviously hurt his knee. I remember uh I was the Ravens uh legend of the game when uh Lamar went down and Cooper, I’m sorry, uh Tyler Huntley came in uh and and played really well and and won the game for them. I was in uh Chicago uh watching up close and personal when at the last minute you had uh Lamar just come down with some mega flu-l like symptoms and Tyler Huntley goes out there and pulls off the the miraculous and they win the game there too. So he can certainly play and that’s no question about it. However, I think for Cooper Rush and for Tyler Huntley, what you’re not seeing or maybe you’re just heading to San Ostrich or maybe you’re just one of those fans that just look at the TV and be like, “Oh, that’s pretty.” Your offensive line, period. That is the bottom line. You have a bad The Ravens have a bad offensive line. Period. Ended discussion. It doesn’t matter. We we already saw it when Lamar was in there and he wasn’t quite that 100% and they’re going up against the Kansas City Chiefs and you just can’t get anything going. Like it’s not that Derrick Henry isn’t running the ball. It’s just that he can’t get to the second level. Now, did they commit to running the ball uh today? Yeah, they committed to running the football today. Yeah. Did he get over 100 yards? Absolutely he did. But we’re also talking about in that red zone. Heck, the tush push. Like that’s Mark Andrews, big beef. You had other big beef guys up in there and the failure, you know, talking to uh Tyler Linderbal after the game, you could just see it where he’s like just my like I don’t know why we cannot advance it less than a yard. I mean, that that’s football 101, being able to advance it less than a yard. So, you got to miss me with all this Cooper Rush hate. I I don’t see it. I don’t think he played uh extremely well. I don’t think that, you know, there were some passes that yeah, he should have made like easy here. Here here are some balls that, you know, I got to get out. Um I think Isaiah Likely is still running wide open. I’m up here in the in the press box while everybody’s out here cleaning up in the press box and I’m looking at, you know, the field and I wish I could see it because I’m like, “Oo, Isaiah Likely, he’s still wide open. Oh, you just need to throw it to him right there.” Oh. Oh, Isaiah on the option route. Oh. Oh, you Oh, no. No, no. The lawnmower guy is lo m mowing the lawn and getting the the field ready for the week after the buy. Oh, Isaiah likely is still wide open. Pardon me. Hold on, fellas. Yeah. Yeah, I see him. He’s wide open again. Like for real. That’s how Cooper Rush now he should get some of the blame in that regards because he wasn’t able to go through his reads. I think part of his processing was maybe in the back of his mind, oh my god, I’m going to get sacked if I don’t get rid of this ball. So again, offensive line and then Cooper Rush, right? I I mean, I think the offensive line is a huge problem. I I think that the the conversation with Rush verse Huntley is that I think Huntley opens up more for the offense based off of what the Ravens already run. Cooper himself. I mean, I have no problem with them throwing the money at at Cooper like they did. I mean, you know, they signed him to a bigger deal for backups and, you know, something at least that they hadn’t done over the course of the Lamar era. But I think we saw some of the spark that Huntley brought with his legs and that’s something that Cooper just does not do. And so, if it looks that bad with Cooper and the offensive line, like yes, obviously that’s a big part of it. you know, throwing Huntley in there at least, you know, when the offensive line doesn’t block properly, Huntley can have a chance at escaping. And actually, it was funny because Cooper Rush actually had probably the biggest escape of the day by a Ravens quarterback on Jared Bur. So, you know, shown his inner Lamar Jackson right there. But the offensive line is a huge problem. And, you know, I understand that, you know, the Ravens are loyal to a fault. You know, we we’ve seen that. You know, usually loyalty is a great quality to have and and has certainly helped Ravens over the course of their franchise history, but you just can’t stay loyal to this starting five anymore. You need to switch it up. You need to make changes. I I mean, why not try Cory Bullock out there a guard? You know what? Is is Ben Cleveland going to give you anything worse? I mean, if John Harbaugh finally says, “All right, hey, I’m going to bring Ben Cleveland out the doghouse. Is he gonna maybe get an opportunity?” I think you have to replace both guard spots. You know, obviously Roger Rosenard is aggress. should cut Joe Note Boom tomorrow by the way with how bad he was in this game. I just the the the the problem is that they they’re the offensive line issue and I’ve said this over and over again. I know all of us have talked about it together is it is so hard to build a team during the season but that’s what the Ravens essentially have to do. Like they essentially have to build multiple units from not scratch but you’re getting pretty close particularly out outside linebacker where Adaf is gone. Tavius Robinson’s foot is broken. So that’s a multi-month absence skill. What is that like four to six to eight weeksish? Oh, that’s eight. That’s an eightish. Yeah. So, I mean, you’re you’re looking at that situation. Offensive linemen, everyone needs offensive linemen, and no one wants to give up good ones because they need offensive linemen, too. So, you’re kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel saying, “Hey, what can I find here?” You have to do that stuff during the offseason. We all talked about it how the Ravens didn’t invest didn’t invest enough in their guard spot. I mean, Emry Jones, hopefully he’ll be back after the by-week. Maybe he should get a crack at one of those guard spots or a starting opportunity because it can’t get much worse. And it’s crazy because I thought they were actually fine to start the game. Like they were opening up holes on that first drive for Derrick Henry. I thought they were getting more push, getting to the second level with ease, but then I think that genuinely that sequence down towards the one yard line broke them. It just broke the team it felt like. And then we’ll talk a little bit more later on in the show about kind of the management and the coaching and whatnot, but you know, when Joe Note boom is getting passed by, free rushers are flowing in and there’s nothing. I don’t care if you’re Cooper Rush, Tyler Huntley, or Lamar Jackson. You can’t work with that. I mean, you can’t work with that. So, I think that again, Huntley gives you more options than Cooper does in terms of what he can bring from a skill set position based off of how this offense already works, but no one’s having success with the way this offensive line is playing for the full 60 minutes of these games. I agree, Kevin, and I also agree with Q that it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is. That offensive line is going to be awful. And you kind of mentioned it, but let’s get into it. That sequence at the goal line, the Ravens had a shot to get the ball to the end zone. We talked about the tush push. The Ravens ran it twice and then had a fourth down play with Derk Henry. Ran to the left, got blown up. The offensive line wasn’t able to hold and give Derrick Henry any chances. What were your thoughts about the play calling? I’ve seen some different uh perspectives on that. Q. I’ll start with you because you were at the game. What were your thoughts on the play calling on that first and goal at the one yard line? Are you okay with the play calling or do you think they should have shifted to either Derrick Henry or even Cooper Rush? No, no, no, no. I I don’t have a problem with you feeling like the play calling of physicality should be a touchdown. I don’t have a problem with you feeling like, “Hey, let’s go for it again because we got less than a yard.” Um, I don’t have a problem with giving a ball to Derrick Henry when you’re trying to score before the half when you got an opportunity that should be A to B. What I have a problem with is the fact that the offensive line I can’t say what I really want to say from a football aspect of things in the locker room. But suffice it to say mother of pearl like Zire Note Boom Vorhees Linder mother of abject pearl. Y’all should just be like, “What did we just step into?” Because it wasn’t clean and it was smelly. The Rams defensive line, I forget my guy. I need to give him some love. Number what was it? Number eight, was it? Or is the D lineman on Jared Vers? Yeah, Jared Verse. Oh, he just made the all he made all pro. That play alone. Y I’m voting for him for our first team all pro. Okay. Uh Ed Oliver for for the Bills. Homeboy has not played since week one. I’m voting for him first team allpro because they may that is like making a living off of the Ravens ineptness and trying to be productive. It’s just embarrassing. And again that’s what like I’m I’m viewing it right there like bro y’all got an opportunity. I ain’t even take advantage of the opportunity. Don’t give me all that Todd Monkin business and this is football. It’s not about the X’s and No, it’s about the Gyms and Joe’s. And the Gyms and Joe’s, you know, there are certain things that yes, you need to scheme and then there are certain things that you just need to just man up and say we better than you. Let’s get that corrected again just just so we’re clear. The the Todd Monet, oh my god, the blank calling. Y’all could say all that on some of the things, but in this particular case, when it comes to less than a yard, when it comes to fourth down and still you got to get it in the end zone and you got your big boys coming out and you don’t get it in, that has nothing to do with the offensive coordinator. Man up. Let’s go. Yeah. I mean, I think to me the sequencing like running a sneak with Mark Andrews, I don’t have a problem with them doing it. And again, like if I like if you run two sneaks with Mark Andrews, which has generally been a very successful play for the Ravens since they’ve done it, you would expect one of them to work. But my thing is that I would have my ideal sequencing there probably would have been you run on first down with Henry to get down to the one yard line. That’s the three- yard play. Second, third, and fourth down, I would have probably run with Henry again on second down. If that didn’t work, or I’d flip it. I’ I’d do the sneak with Andrews on second down. If that didn’t work, I’d try to run with Henry on third down. Then I would do like a play action. I’d try to go I’d do like play action on fourth down because they’re probably expecting another run or some situation right there. That’s another thing that you could look at. But you you need to be able You’re right. Yeah. You need to be able to put the ball in the end zone when you have your heavy front up there. I mean, I saw there was the clip. I don’t remember what down it was. I think it was the fourth down. It was the fourth. It was the fourth. Yeah. Of of Daniel Fle running running and just like kind of falling down and like roll blocking someone. Like those are the things you can’t have happen. Especially when you have all your heavy guys in there and you have Derrick Henry with three shots at the one yard line with that with that team. You need to be able to put the ball in the end zone. And that essentially to me where was that that was where the game was lost. Now they had opportunities to win it after that but you could tell there was just a shift there. And it is inexcusable to not come out with any points when they could have gone in at the half. 10 to three at the half. You know, even if the Rams score in that first possession of the second half like they did, you’re still in a tie ball game and you’re feeling confident that, hey, we just put together a good drive. Let’s go out there and get this thing. It’s felt like the energy took a shift after that. Yeah, I’m 100% with you guys, especially Q. That’s not a tie monkeying thing. It’s a player thing. Those guys are actually get a yard. A yard. Just one yard. Get the push, get it. You guys got out, man. Out manhandled there. The the the the Rams winning the more. Tyler Lomb made that fact. So, can’t blame anybody, but them you talk about maybe Derek Henry having the ball, but you saw what happened when they handed the ball on fourth down. It was just blowing up. The offensive line just isn’t effective enough against top tier defensive fronts to to push or do anything of the sort, especially when they know the run is coming. And then then the Rams certainly knew the run was coming and nothing to it to that. Well, when we come back, we’ll talk on the defense. We talked a lot about the offense. We jumped to the defense which held a team to under 20 points. So that’s a positive in the right direction. We’ll talk about what that could mean for this Ravens team as they get ready for the bye-week next here on the Raven Squad Show. The Ravens fall to the Rams 17-3. Unfortunate that the offense wasn’t getting things going, but the defense showed some light. Even with the absence of Adaf due to trade and the emergence of Alohi Gilman, this Ravens defense looked like they were ready to play. Little breaks caught here and there certain situations, but overall nice to see this Ravens team put their best foot forward, at least on the defensive side of the ball. This may have saved Zachary or’s job in my opinion. If they had another stinker here, the the the pitchforks would have been out. Maybe they still are, but good to see the Ravens hold the team to under 20 points. Kevin, what are your thoughts on the defense overall? I thought that they were better. I I do think they caught a lot of breaks. You know, multiple Devonte Adams drops, Jordan Whittington had a drop. You know, Matthew Stafford had some overthrows, and that’s just the course of things you see in a game, right? You know, every team makes mistakes. It’s not just a Rams verse Ravens defense type of thing. But, you know, I I think that we saw early the Ravens do a really good job defensively of forcing the Rams into second and third and longs. They weren’t giving up anything on first down. and it was putting them in second and nines, second and tens. And that’s what they needed to do. That was one of the ways that they were going to win this game or at least have a chance to win this game. And on on the ground, I mean, I know Karen Williams got some stuff going a little later. Blake Cororm, you know, had a long 12- yard run here and there, but Ravens defense held this Rams offense to just 3.2 yards per carry. Now, they ran the ball 23 times. And again, four of those came from Matthew Stafford, which again, you know, it kind of is what it is. But I thought that again holding Kairen Williams who got banged up a little in this game. 13 carries for 50 yards. That’s not terrible. Now again, they didn’t have Puka for the majority of this game after he went down as well. So that certainly helped and ease some pressure because Puka is one heck of a receiver. But I just think again to start that second half, the Rams stopped making mistakes and, you know, kind of started walking down the Ravens again. We saw the off coverage. Sam, I I you know, I know you you were begging for the RA get some offsize penalties by being so up close in press, but you know, we still saw some of that off coverage. You know, Marlon Humphrey dropped an interception in the end zone. That was on the play Puku got injured. That would have been a big momentum shift there. So, you know, there were opportunities missed, but we can all be factual with it and say that it’s a lot better than what we’ve seen the last two weeks. I think that’s something. And, you know, would I still fire Zack Gore after this game? Yes, I would. I I think that a message needs to be sent. That to me is kind of where I’d go. Are the Ravens going to do it? I mean, it doesn’t sound like it. So, at this point, you know, it was better than what we saw. That that’s a step in the right direction, but there are still so many things that they need to improve on. And, you know, like John Jenkins been one of the MVPs of this defense this year. Shout out to John Jenkins and how how well he’s played so far this year. You know, filling in for Michael Pierce and, you know, Yeah. m making him play, you know, making Michael Pierce plays out there. But, you know, at the end of the day, the first turnover that occurred since Michael Pierce’s turnover against the uh Browns. Yeah. Yeah. It wasn’t a turn wasn’t a turnover against I mean, they they’ve needed something like that. So, in my opinion, the defense still is not where it needs to be, but at least they didn’t give up a bajillion points this time around and actually were able to hold up strong on specifically like look, you look at some of the the box scoreer stashes team-wise, the Rams on third down were just four or 10 and they actually got a big stop on a fourth down as well, which was big when again the Rams inexplicably decided not to go up by three scores against this team. So, it could have been worse, but again, would have, could have, should have. I I think they played better, but they still have a long way to go. And you know, it’s still tough right now with them, but it was better. I just think that John Jenkins, the way you had to throw in Adafay sack, I’m saying that John Jenkins had a strip sack fumble recovery. Take that, Adaf. Yeah. Now what? But yeah, you’re right. The enthusiasm of the defense was better. The communication was better. I think that uh Gilman, you could see his play was better. Tinton Simpson was sort of kind of better until he gave up the big play. Like, mother of pearl, bro. Just plaster on on Montgomery and you you you got it and you’d be all right. I just think that uh there were plays there that should have been made that wasn’t made. However, I do think that the plays that were presented with uh Kyle Hamilton. Um there were some with Nate Wiggins that yes, you’re right. You know, if you know, you had a more focus uh Devonte Adams, I think he would have probably been cooking and had close to over a hundred. Um, I love the way Marlin, you know, played up against Puka in in in that coverage because he was giving up touchdowns um before. So, at least, yeah, you could see the enthusiasm. You could see the want to. You could see the competitiveness. It sucks that Tavius Robinson broke his foot. That’s a big big blow. I think what he does for that defense and trying to uh grow into that double J role, Jared Johnson role where you’re setting the edge for running attack coming at you, but then also providing a strong level of trying to rush up field and as well as just knowing your assignment, like trusting a guy that he knows his assignment and he’s going to do the right thing. um without that element in there, that’s a big blow to this Ravens defense and I’m curious as to what it’s going to look like moving forward and what EDC is going to do to try to replace him. Um but boy, yeah, you you thought that there was a level of turnaround from the defensive side of football. Yeah, agreed. And I am very interested. We’ll talk about that later in the show, the moves that the Rams may need to make. But yeah, Davius Robinson, I had somebody say, “Oh, well, he wasn’t doing that much as a pass rusher.” Well, he was setting the edge and we’re probably going to feel that in the run game more than anything when it comes to his loss. So, interesting to see what the Ravens do moving forward with that. But that is a monumental loss. One person that you didn’t mention is Malachi Stark, somebody that a lot of Ravens fans are starting to take a look at is getting beat deep in certain instances. He’s been mashed up by oneonone coverage oftent times and sometimes his zone is just attacked uh more often than not, it seems. What are your thoughts about Malachi Starks through the first five weeks, Kevin? And could you see a change with maybe CJ Gardner Johnson coming in, taking his spot a little bit, maybe relieving him with some playing time? Because it seems like teams are starting to attack him more often than not. Now, of course, it depends on the play call, sometimes he’s on man coverage, sometimes he’s on, sometimes he’s nowhere near to play, but as a guy myself who loves Malachi starts coming in, I can’t say that he hasn’t been a bit of a disappointment, at least in the first five weeks. I’ll tell you what, Seahawks fans love Nicki Minor right now. So that uh that that debate will will ring on for a while here. But you know I I think that Malachi just needs he needs time. Now the problem is the Ravens cannot afford to give him it’s much like Zach. You can’t afford the guy has potential. Well, you’re not playing for potential right now. This is not a rebuilding team or a team that’s looking to, you know, get a lot of young guys experience at the expense of bad plays. I mean, I think that Chanty Gardner Johnson will have a role coming out of the buy and I wouldn’t be surprised if Malik guy kind of takes a little bit of a backseat here and you know, that’s not what anybody expected, but you know, at the end of the day, I think that you can kind of work with things. The Ravens will probably have a couple of roster spots to work with. I see uh Tally saying Zire Mitchell Ped needs to be cut which you know I think that he didn’t have a good game this week and he didn’t have a good game last week unfortunately. Yeah I mean I think that he will be and with Ricard coming back after the buy ideally I think you can make that move. So I think you can put TJ Gardner Johnson into that spot and feel good about it you know not have to make another corresponding move there. Obviously they cut Ruben Lowry and put in uh put in TJ Aoy. So, there’s going to be a lot of movement over these next couple of weeks, but I I do think that for what this Ravens team is right now, they’re playing a lot of youth already. They obviously got some guys back in this game like Hamilton and Humphrey and whatnot, but you know, Malachi hasn’t been, I think, what a lot of people were expecting. He’s still learning. He admitted to overthinking, which is never a great thing that you want to hear from a guy, especially who has to cover that back end. So, it’s okay. Like, I want to say this, too. It’s okay that he needs time. Like not every rookie is going to come in there and be like the second coming of Ed the safety position, but it’s just a matter of how much runway the Ravens can give these guys. And right now it’s not a lot. I just think that, you know, when it when it comes to Malachi Starks, what I saw as far as what the Ravens wanted to get from him by looking at his college tape was a guy that was a lot more ready than what we’re seeing now. And so that’s what is the disappointment for me. Like I’m like, “Yeah, you know, I thought we were going to see you just, you know, be dynamic and and and and have a a a mindset of like, okay, I’m with these other veterans, but you know what? I think I can contribute and I think I’m going to contribute well.” And then you look at him in the Bills game and in the very first opportunity to to prove us right, he drops a ball that was a opportunity for a touchdown. And so that’s the disappointment. And so I think the big thing overall for him and for what this defense needs from him, it’s it’s it’s it’s not you’re going to grow up. It’s you got to grow up faster and do it now. There’s no sit back and well, it’s okay. No, it’s not. It’s it’s you need to be that number one pick that we thought you were going to be. Yeah, I agree completely. And again, just to keep the the conversation going, Nick Manor, they’re asking him to do a lot different things than what they’re asking Malachi Stark to do. Nick Manor is a lot in a line of scrimmage. He’s split in the way that, you know, they’re asking Kyle Hamilton to be that guy. So, I mean, still Nick Manor is playing amazing football. You know, I think he’s a little still a little bit injured, but still he’s playing pretty decent football. But Malachi to to your point, I think he needs to grow up fast. I don’t know if the Ravens have enough time to get him that this year with a one and five start. So wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a little bit of changes in him and maybe at least changes to his snap count. Maybe not getting him off the field completely, but I would be interested to see what the Ravens do moving forward. Speaking of moving forward, when we come back, we’ll move forward and see how we think this team is going to look at the end of the season. Is the one to five start detrimental to success? I know it is, but is it too detrimental? Meaning that there’s no shot for them to get to the postseason or based on the schedule and the guys in the division, is there still a chance for the Ravens to push for a playoff spot? Ravens Squad show twice a week. Once on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and once after every Ravens game, such as the one we just witnessed here with the Ravens and Rams. Now, the Ravens lose. We all know that they’re one and five. Not feeling very good about it, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. John Harbaugh mentioned during the press conference that he does expect, if all things goes well for Lamar Jackson to come back, hopefully Roan Smith to come back. So, they’re getting healthy. Is there enough time for the Ravens to make a comeback? What are your thoughts, Kevin, as this team heads into the buy before another challenge against the Chicago Bears? Well, I mean, look, anything is possible. And right now, if you look over at Tankathon, which is crazy because honestly, some people are looking at draft positioning right now, which the Ravens have the third pick in the draft right now. The season ended today. We’re a third of the way done the season, by the way, which is crazy, right? I mean, it doesn’t feel that way, but third of the way officially done with the year. Right now on Tankathon, the Ravens, it says, and again this is subject to change because games are still going on as we’re recording this, but the Ravens currently have the one, two, three, four, five, six, wait, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Seventh easiest strength of schedule remaining. And yet you look at their next fiveish games. You can pull it up here. obviously had the the Bears coming out of the by-week, but then you have the Dolphins, the Vikings, the Browns, the Jets, then the Bengals, the Steelers, the Bengals, the Patriots, the Packers, and the Steelers. I mean, that’s not opponent-wise, that’s not terrible. The problem is it’s not just about your opponent, and we do know the Ravens are due for a stinker or two against an opponent they should beat generally, but you do have a lot of guys coming back. It’s a very and the last two years the by-weeks have been you know the best possible times they could be at it feels like. So it’s possible but you’re not going to win a lot of games playing the way that you are. You know we can just call it like it is. Like if they keep playing this way yes they showed improvement in this game on multiple fronts today. I definitely want to acknowledge that but you still have to play these teams that you know whether it’s highowered offenses or good defenses. Maybe a team has one or the other like Cleveland for example awesome defense. offense is uh in a little bit of trouble right there. So like again, you have to be able to take advantage of those teams. Maybe have one strength, not multiple. My thing though with the Ravens, and this is a concern that I’ve been thinking about and talking about a little bit. It’s going to take everything this team has to come out of this thing and make the playoffs. Like everything. They’re going to have to exhaust every option. Now, obviously getting to the playoffs is better than not getting there, but I wonder how much juice they would have left if they got to the postseason. It’s going to take everything in their power to make this thing make this a run. But it also depends on what changes they make. Like, you know, we’ll talk about some of the maybe trades they could make or guys they could add. I mean, Q, you mentioned it like they’re going to have to do something outside linebacker now because of their situation. So, yeah. What what do those moves look like for them? Is that internal stuff? Are they going to go out there and get a guy? I think that’s going to determine a lot. So certainly possible, but one and five is a horrible spot to be in entering your by week. I tell you what, it’s interesting with the way the schedule is set up, but then you also look at Pittsburgh, Cleveland, even though you beat Cleveland, they are going to match up way better than you this second time around. The Bengals are always the Bengals. I don’t think it is going to be as easy as, oh, we have an easy schedule and the AFC North is. I think Pittsburgh is trending up the way they’re playing. And I think their quarterback play, yeah, I mean, he can give up the ball and make some, you know, boneheaded decisions, but then at the same time, he comes back and they just ball out around him and they have a defense that travels. The Ravens do not. The Ravens need to have a 100% uh Lamar Jackson that can make up for a inconsistent an inconsistent offensive line play. Like you can say however you want to, but the offensive line play it just looks like they’re going to stick with Vorhees Fle. They’re going to just say, “Okay, cool.” like it’ll be good that you know Ronnie will be able to kind of come back as far as his ankle is concerned with the by-week and all that but uh yeah Emory Jones like right now like I I appreciate the thought that you know hey it’s always the the guy that you know the backup you always want to see oh yeah he he can come in there and do some things but he hasn’t seen live action you know during training camp preseason so I’m not really expected much from that guy. You know, if we’re looking at Malachi Starks, a first round pick and we’re like, “Yo, bro, you need to play better and d and the whole nine yards and he went through it all, how much more so Emit Jones is really going to come in and help us out that much.” So, no, I’m not doom and gloom. I’m just being realistic. A one and five start is not it. And you’ve played up against the upper tier teams. Other teams are getting better. What are you getting? You’re kind of just treading water barely. and you need your biggest gun back and that’s Lamar Jackson. You need him back 100%. Anything less just not gonna get it done. Yeah, I agree with you completely. One and five isn’t good. They win the next four games, they’re five and five, but the Pittsburgh Steelers again, they look good. I that they look good the last Yeah. few weeks. And Aaron Rogers, we can call him 41 and all that, but he’s certainly not playing like a 41 year old quarterback. So, we’re putting a lot of faith in the Steelers imploding. Uh, I think Tanya just made a comment to that effect. Uh, could happen. Hopefully it happens, but we are banking on another team going on a stinker the rest of the way. Could happen again. And hoping that the Ravens don’t do what they’ve been doing for a long period of time, which is losing games that should win. Lamar Jackson does come back, but what is he coming back to? We talked about that, but but who knows? And I guess we could talk about it a little bit now. We were going to talk about it uh in the se next segment, but we should talk about it now. You did mention Emory Jones coming back. This offensive line, Lamar Jackson against the Kansas City Chiefs look terrible. I mean, awful. I mean, because of the offensive line and the way it plays. This same offensive line may come back. We don’t know how serious the injury is to Ronnie Stanley, but the guard play is a lot to be desired. Tyler Lindump hasn’t played well at all this season, and let’s just call it how we see it. Are there any changes in the horizon other than perhaps maybe Abby Jones? I mean, doesn’t seem like the Ravens are going to make any trades to this offensive line because as Kevin mentioned, there are no guys that are, you know, good enough that teams are willing to give up. So, it’s all going to be in house. Q, I’ll start with you. You kind of mentioned it. What do you think this team can do with Lamar Jackson with that offensive line? Is it attainable considering what we saw from him the first three and a half games or are there serious changes that need to be made? I just think this when it comes to h Patrick him coming back can help. I think that uh you know the point of attack of having a 300lb athletic fullback you know leading the way can definitely help. Um I think that you know Zire it it looked like he was doing well and then he kind of just leveled off and kind of regressed. Um, I think this is where, you know, the bigger picture of what can you do when it comes to a trade. I just don’t see that happening as far as offensive linemen. Um, I think scheme wise would be another thing that you would potentially look at, but you know, we’ve been scheming the heck out of this O line, you know, and I think that uh it was interesting even last week against um a Dline that in my mind it looked as though they had the offensive line figured out when the guards were either about to pull or if they were doing some level of misdirection. Um, I don’t know schematically if you have like some level of a power game that that would help, but it seems as though Daniel Fle for example, when he does kind of have that power game block scheme that he winds up either missing a guy because his head is over his toes and it looks like he’s off balance all the time. So, we can go on and on. Um schematically you got to look at things personnel you got to look at things who on your roster perhaps but yeah the only kind of bright spot if you will is the fact that Patrick should be coming back and that might be an opportunity to bolster your running game because yeah maybe the threat of Lamar you know but although we did see against the Lions heck they were like there’s no threat of Lamar and obviously they didn’t know that he wasn’t full go, but that threat of Lamar is everything. And without it, as we saw in the Lions game, it matters not. Yeah. I’m curious to see how teams defend Lamar when when he gets back because you mentioned with that Lions game, how they were essentially using spies and not rushing a bunch of guys like that seemed to be effective. But I think Ricard coming back will help a lot. But the thing is like I I don’t want to first of all, it’s not fair to put this all on Lamar. It’s not fair to put it on any one player. Like obviously Lamar’s the one where everyone’s going to be like, “Man, Lamar’s has to come back and save this team.” But for Ricard, I feel like everybody thinks that, oh man, Ricard’s going to come in and solve every single issue this team has offensive linewise, which I’m not, and I’m not saying you’re saying that, but I’m I’m just saying along the lines of like Ricard is going to help, but it’s also just up to these guys in general that they need to block better, they need to get to the second level better, they need to hold on to their guys better, and it’s just it’s it’s bad right now. And you know, even for a guy like Linderbalm who I think is like the play from him might have to do with the players around him. Like he has to make up for so much with two inexperienced guys that really don’t like sometimes don’t feel like h have the necessary skills to come in and play for this team right now. I mean, it’s just like how many things do you need to see before you actually make a change, right? How how many times do we have to go out there and yeah, they played better in the first half, but it feels like with this team, and Sammy kind of talked about it with Zach Gore a little bit where, hey, did this performance save his job? Even though, you know, while they were better, they still were, you know, had some mistakes and whatnot. Feels like the Ravens see like one or two good plays happen or like boom, that’s our guy. But then everything else is bad and they’re like, no, that’s still our guy. And we’re just like, you have to take everything into account here. And I know that, you know, it’s tough making changes and keeping a locker room when you’re telling guys, hey, you’re not good enough here. We’re going to go with somebody else. Like, I understand that’s a tough situation to be in. But those are tough conversations that teams need to have with players. And especially now when the results just aren’t playing. And we’ve seen a defense that even when guys were healthy was not contributing or performing. You know, this to me outside the Cleveland game was the best game we’ve seen from this team defensively during the year. But it all goes hand in hand and you know even special teams wise where you know you’re kind of wiping the sweat off your forehead once that Leonte fumble gets called back like that was another thing where it’s like get bailed out there and it’s the most frustrating part I think for everybody is they just couldn’t take advantage of those opportunities. The Rams tried to hand this game to the Ravens in 15 different ways and they they couldn’t get out of their own way. They they the Rams were gift wrapping this game and the Ravens said, “Ah, no, you know what? We’re going to be nice. We’ll we’ll we’ll let you keep it.” So, they need to be able to take advantage of opportunities better because they had plenty of them in this game that they did not take advantage of. They said, “You know what? The first half we’ll make it look like we’re going to give you a gift, but if you don’t take advantage of it, then we’re just going to go ahead and win this game.” Y Oh, you don’t want to score inside the one yard line? Oh, we gave you all those chances. You don’t want to take it? Well, we’re just going to go in at halftime. We’re just going to show you what it really looks like when we come out after the half. And yeah, it don’t matter if you change from a punt return that we, like you just said, gave you a second chance on like, oh, Cooper Rush, you want to go ahead take him out, put in Tyler, we’ll let him look decent, a run here or there, but we ain’t going to go ahead and lose this game. Y’all had your opportunity. Y’all didn’t take care of the gift that was given to you. Uh yeah, I think uh uh Adams is sitting there and he’s like, “Man, I know I was like ready to just ball out and I was cooking, but man, Wiggins, when he passed in the fear of me, I just knew that boy, I could play bad and it’s okay. We’re still going to win.” And Devonte, you’re right. Y’all won even though the defense was sitting there and watching you drop passes. That’s crazy. That is insane. I forgot about that. Devonte Adams did like drop a lot of passes. Yeah, he dropped like three in the first half. Yeah. Yeah. Had a touchdown. He had a He had a touchdown and just uncharacteristically went right on to his hands. Yeah. And after all that, the Ravens only put up three points on the board. Three points of offense to show for in 60 minutes of football. That’s that’s depressing to say the least. But we’re going to touch more on what the Ravens need to do as far as changes are concerned when we come back. Eric Costa has his work cut out for him. It might not just be Eric Costa. It might be the coaching staff needing to find the best players. That means not showing favoritism to a guy named Daniel Flei even though he has a Pro Bowl under his belt that John Harbaugh mentions all the time for some reason. And you know, the Ravens got they got their work cut out for them. We’ll talk about what they need to do to have any shot at this coming next on the Ravens squad show. We’re back here at the Ravens Squad Show again. We’re available twice a week, once after every Ravens game and once on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time. Also, tune in to the Lockdown Ravens podcast with Kevin Art Striker getting you the latest and greatest in Ravens news. sometimes even during the weekends if the news suffices. We do expect news to drop hopefully positive news for the Ravens as we get ready for the by-week and the future games of the Ravens make a push for the postseason which is crazy to say a one and five but what we talk about is that the Ravens are in fact still trying to get a playoff appearance after a one and five start which is insane. If I saw any other team in the league talk about making the playoffs and they’re currently one and five I would laugh at them. But we are still talking about it. The talent is there. There’s a possibility, but that doesn’t mean that changes don’t need to be made. Eric Dcasta is going to have to get his work done in this one. I believe talked about Tavius Robinson broken foot. They traded away Odaf Ooway. Didn’t inject any offensive lineman into this unit afterwards. The Ravens pretty much had three healthy offensive uh I mean edge rushers throughout the game because of that. So, there’s the work to be cut out and as well trying to find some way to maybe perhaps uh find a replacement for Nani Manique. I don’t think so. I think Jenkins is that guy. But I’ll get your thoughts. I’ll start with you. Where do you think this Ravens team needs to go? I know it’s speculation city, but let’s talk about who could possibly come in here. Maybe not who, but what position would we need to be upgraded for the Ravens to have a shot? Well, clearly the upgrade that won’t happen. It’s the offensive line. So, we know that that’s not going to be I think the elephant in the room is who’s going to be able to uh who are they going to be able to bring in to help out um the Tavius Robinson injury. That that’s priority number one. And then you look at, well, you got 10 active, five safeties, five defensive backs, 10 active secondary guys that played and okay, that’s great. Well, then what else? Like pretty much the line. Like I know um John Jenkins, man, he did an awesome job with his strip sack fumble, but that was about it. And so I would continually look at Dline. I would continually try to figure out linebacker. Although you I guess feel like you got Rocoan Smith coming back. Does that mean that you move Teddy Buchanan back on over? Relegate Finton Simpson back to the uh sidelines and perhaps rotate him in. Um, yeah, this this is a a dire situation when it comes to like trying to make it work. the the biggest thing that is trying to make it work is the bottom line of Tavius Robinson. Who’s going to be that guy that can replace pretty much your starting um rush end and your starting strong side rush end of all sorts because now not only is he a rush in but like I said he is extremely important in the run game because he’s the guy that sets the edge. So Dline is the big thing that we are looking at. That’s the elephant in the room. The Dline. Like you got to figure that out. The next hugest elephant that is just literally a stinker. It’s trying to replace something on that offensive line. And I don’t know what that even looks like because again it it there’s schematics, there’s schemes, there’s all that. There is, you know, this young guy in Emory Jones who we do or do not know. I guess for right now he’s the darling because, you know, we just can only go glass half full. Oh, he’s going to be great for us. I we we guess, we hope, we know, we don’t know. I don’t know. And I don’t really I’m not exactly optimistic that he is going to be uh good and everything is going to be dandy in the land of the offensive line. So, yeah, this is a roll of the dice. Do you look at, man, this is so bad. Therefore, the only uh real trade piece we got is Mark Andrews. Is that what you’re going to be relegated to? You know, trading Mark Andrews and trying to get something for him? I mean, I don’t know. This that this is this is going to be a defining moment for two people, John Harbaugh and Eric Dcasta. They’re the ones that you you can you can uh Zach Orit and Todd Monking it to the Cows come home, but when it comes down to it, those two men are the ones that ultimately got to go to the principal’s office down there in Florida in the offseason and say, “How come we had a team that was built to go to the Super Bowl and we look like we do?” Yeah. I mean, I think at this point you have to kind of look at win for win trades. What I mean by that is, you know, you trade away a guy and get a guy kind of like what they did with OA. You know, I I think that, you know, you have to kind of show that you’re able to address some of these holes on the roster because, you know, right now it’s it’s bad. And, you know, offensive lineup, I mean, we’ve talked about it. It’s really hard to get those guys in here, but you know, like why not trade Mark Andrews to a Tennessee for Kevin Zitler and and see if you can make something like that happen and say, “Hey, you know, like this is the thing. If you’re not going to have a guy, and this is what they did with OA, if you know that a guy is not going to be a part of your long-term plans, you know, an extension doesn’t work out or there’s someone behind a guy that’s going to come up and take that spot, like yes, having Andrews and Likely together is, you know, really good from like, oh, hey, we have two top whatever tight ends on the roster and playing for us, but they just have other needs elsewhere. And so, I see people talking about Kon Tibido in the chat and other players that could potentially come in here from that outside linebacker spot. This is what we were talking about earlier in the season for you know the about like 10 months we were talking about Javian Clowney coming back to to Baltimore is having that depth and having guys that can step up in a moment like this because you know now most of those guys are are are gone. They found other opportunities. They signed with other teams and so now you have projected five fifth round picks that’s going to be at your disposal most likely during this upcoming draft cycle. I don’t want to see the Ravens take five players in a fifth round this upcoming year. I I I just want to say that right now. I do not want to see that happen. So, they need to move off somebody’s picks this year to go and try and get a guy. And the thing is, I think some people think that, you know, and I’m not saying a lot of people do, but I’ve seen it on social media where it’s like, oh man, you’re trading away these picks for a rental, like they’re just going to be gone. That’s not always the case. like you you can trade away picks during the season and that guy stays. Allah Rocoan Smith or some of these other players that you can sign to extensions or other they they stay with the team for multiple years. Edge rusher is huge. Defensive line is huge. Offensive line is huge. I mean the problem is every team needs those. So Ravens will have some competition when it comes down to who they bring in and what types of quality options will be available. Plus we know this organization doesn’t like trading high up draft picks. It’s just not their organizational philosophy. T you and I talked about it. In order to save this season, they’re gonna have to get uncomfortable as a franchise to make moves that they normally would not make to do things they normally would not do, whether it be on the field or off the field. That’s the only way you can win is you have to get uncomfortable and kind of throw everything you can at the wall and see what sticks there. So, I think to me, get uncomfortable. Go make a move like that and show the team that, hey, we’re going to try to bring in reinforcements to get this thing going. And even if it doesn’t work this year, at the end of the day, it’s still a guy that hopefully you’re able to get back under contract or stays with the team longer term because, you know, trading a first round pick for a rental is not good optics. It’s not a good deal in the short or long term. But if you say, “Hey, we’re trading our first for a guy that’s going to be a staple on or Dline, O line, whatever for the next five plus years or whatever, that’s a deal that I would make.” Sure would. But I don’t know if they’re going to make it. Again, you mentioned it got to get uncomfortable. If Eric Dasa’s job was on the line, and I’m not sure it is, uh, then maybe I’d see maybe he’ be a little aggressive, but he’s going to have to be aggressive to save his buddy’s job, John Harbaugh. It feels like again, John Haw’s job is still on the line, especially after a one and five start. Yes, Lamar Jackson is injured, but there are plenty of QBs in the league that are currently not playing. The teams are still finding ways to win. The Ravens just don’t happen to be one of those teams. So, and even when Lamar Jackson was playing, the Ravens were still losing. So, it’s not 100% a guarantee that when Lamar Jackson comes back, this team will be able to do something, but I want you guys to give me one player on your wish list. One player. I know Q hates doing this, but I’m going to force you guys to do it. I’ll start with you, Q. Give me one player you want on this Ravens team. No, it’s interesting because I’m going over to the chat, and the chat is saying my guy John Parson’s like, “Yo, uh, apparently Cam Jordan is available for trade according to the Sporting News.” And if that is the case, like I know Cam is a guy that can play. Uh yeah, you’re right. Uh Cam Jordan has two and a half sacks so far this season with 15 tackles and four tackles for losses. I like that. Four tackles for losses. Clearly two and a half sacks is tremendous. I mean, it’s better than anything we got so far on this active roster. Um but yeah, I I think that uh just his veteran savvy and his veteran leadership. I mean, right away, I think that he would be a guy that I would look to to say interior uh Dlineman who can can can, you know, cause some havoc and and uh bring some value to your defense up front. Cam Jordan. Nice. Yeah, that’s a that’s a good one. I mean, I I’m going to stick with my dream trade deadline scenario. I’m gonna say Kevin Zitler and Kas Campbell. Bring them home. Say, bring them home. I don’t care how likely or unlikely it is. That’s you address your O line, you address your Dline, and I think I think that would be a beautiful way for Eric Dcasta. And plus, again, it’s it’s kind of in line with the moves I expect the Ravens to make. It’s not a Max Crosby, it’s not a Dexter Lawrence, it’s not a Quinnon Williams. I just organ I’d love it, but organizationally, I just don’t think they’re going to do it. So, I think that Kas can come in. I think Zeitler can come in and at least give you upgrades from what you have right now. Give you a little more consistency and just options in general. So, I’m uh I’m going to go there. Sam, what about you? Give us a name. I I want Kevin Zyl, too. I like that one a lot. You look like you’re about to say something. Well, no. I just think Ali uh saying my wish list player, Max Crosby, I know it won’t happen, but a man can dream. And it’s and it’s funny because I’m like that dude is so entrenched in in Raider lore. Yeah. And culture. And even though that the Raiders are struggling, I I that would be great. I think he would be a great addition, but I just don’t see that being pulled off anytime soon. Yeah, I there’s no way Max Crosley is gonna come here. I’m not even going to put that in my my rearview mirror, let alone my front view. It’s no shot. He’s coming. He’s too good. But I like Kevin Zyler. I would love that offensive line. And Cam Jordan is actually a really good one as well. I’m trying to think of another one, but I I can’t Oh, you know what? Trey Hendrickson is a interesting one. I know the Bengals, you know, don’t want to trade within the division, but they’ve already done it with the Browns, and the Bengals are losing currently to the Packers, and he’s in a one-year deal. Get that guy a first or second round pick and you got yourself a guy. Just saying. I would take I would be so gleeful. I’d be like, “Oh my gosh.” Oh, that would change everything. Yeah. I I I think Mike Brown would would have a cow. He’d be like, “What? We’re in division? Are you kidding me?” Yeah. You know, like he looking at getting Joe Flacco is a little bit different. You know, there there’s a there’s a big difference between getting a Joe Flacco and then trading away Trey Hendrickson. Yeah. But yeah, we could dream. We could dream. Let’s dream. Hey, you know what? We’re We’re doing this. Bring me Miles Garrett. Bring me Let’s just keep them coming. Keep them coming. Bring me Miles Garrett. You know, maybe Bengals can throw in Jamar Chase in there, too. You know, we can we can we can get get everybody in here. They need something though. If there if there was a year to make a move for a bigname player, it is this one in my opinion though because again under the assumption they stay in Baltimore long term. I think this is the year to get them a year or at least half a year in the system. They stay longterm. You can build around them for next season. Have them on your roster. I mean, I think that this would be the year to do it because you you’re giving yourself a better chance to compete this year and make a miraculous run, but if it doesn’t happen, you you can still have that guy for next year and address a need that you know you’re going to have going into the offseason anyway. Yeah, agree completely. We’ll see. We have plenty of time to think about it and plenty of time to see what occurs. I want to thank everyone for joining us here on the Raven Squad show. I'll say it,,,we SUCK
I can appreciate the optimism,, but anyone saying we're still winning the division and playoffs,,, get real
There is no way that Monken is watching any film on this offense. If he is he needs to be fired asap. There is no way that the O-line can win with his play calling.
I blame this loss on coaching, Rush and Flowers. Awful. Repeated mistakes and penalties and self-inflicted turnovers
Why was 77 on our o-line in this game today? He was atrocious all season.
It would not surprise me if Henry starts hinting that he wants to be traded. Lamar might do the same but his contract is so expensive that I don’t see too many teams that have the space for him.
As of today, Lamar Jackson is in danger of joining one of the lists that no one ever wants to be on: the list of greatest QBs to never win a Super Bowl.
Of course the team could win the SB for the next three seasons; it could happen! But right now? I won’t be surprised to see them only scratch out four or five wins all season.
I very much hope that I am wrong.
Flowers needs to ditch those gloves
Mike Tomlin better than Harbaugh!!!
developing players has been abysmal. it's on coaching
JOHN MORTON..JOHN MORTON..JOHN MORTON..The way they talking, we not gonna make major major moves although there needs to be
Something has to change. Harbaugh has to realize where this team is headed. Try some new plays with Henry. This is a hall of fame player. Give him something different with the ball. O line needs a new coach. Defense needs a tougher coach. Get in your face guy. Look how it was with Ray, no excuses were excepted.
Q I will help you. Dumpster juice with young and old people diapers
I disagree. The tush-push was tge worst call ever. 1 your center is not built for it. 2 Mark Andrews to tall. 3 It takes the ball out of D. Henry hands. 4 It didnt work tge play before. Insanity doing the same thing and think you getting different results. Your running game working, why not die with what was working. I was hoping they got another touchdown because I lnew this was going to happen. This was a bad game on coaching. Man say what you want. You saw good D, I saw a D co ordinator get played played. Zac Orr is predictable with play calling. Players either not aware or not pre paired. I actual like droping 9 on 4th down. Switch it up and your line not getting it done anyway. No way you in a prevent defense and a running back get behind everyone. Do you know how long that play took. You could see it coming a mile away. You lnow Stafford got a big arm. You must be aware! Trenton Simpson plays the pass well, that was his one strengths.😢
At the end of the season if not now, then we need to makecMAJOR MOVES. and we need money, so we need to trade or restructure a few contracts: Ro, Rush, Faaleela, Marlon,Andrews, Rosegarden, for starters
Stop going to the games
