Minnesota Vikings News Today: If Jaxson Dart Can Beat the Eagles — Why Can’t JJ McCarthy?
There’s been a lot of speculation on when to bring back JJ McCarthy. I’ve heard on some programs, you don’t want to bring him back against the Eagles. Did you see what 22year-old Jackson Dart did against the Eagles last night? Why can’t JJ do the same? We’ll discuss on the UP. [Music] I don’t know who I am. Powered by Riverside FM. If you watched the Philadelphia Eagles game versus the New York Giants last night, man, you had to learn a lot. And I have been on board with everything that I’ve said about JJ McCarthy in terms of the Minnesota Vikings need to bring this kid back when he’s healthy and people need to stop worrying about who he’s playing against and who we should bring him back against. Did you see Jackson Dart last night, man? Jackson Dart had no fear. He was out there playing loose. The New York Giants had a great game plan for him. There was no intimidation by the Philadelphia Eagles defense. So my question is, I think that JJ McCarthy has a better pedigree than Jackson Dart, right? So why is everybody afraid to bring JJ McCarthy back against the Philadelphia Eagles? Jackson Dart torched the Philadelphia Eagles last night. Did you watch the game? Jackson Dart just carved him up. The same defense that JJ McCarthy is going to face about a week and some change from now. Both quarterbacks are similar age. Both quarterbacks have similar experience in the NFL. JJ’s been in the NFL one year longer, albeit he didn’t play last year. But why should JJ be afraid? Why should anybody have any hesitation for JJ to play against the Philadelphia Eagles? JJ McCarthy can do the same thing. Here’s what I saw last night from Jackson Dart that I feel like we need to see from JJ McCarthy as well. Jackson Dart was very calm under pressure. UP Nation purple game very calm under pressure. He handled the Philadelphia Eagles that was disguising their blitz packages and he looked to make quick decisions. I thought what the Giants did with him very well was roll him out of the park pocket so he could freelance a little bit, have some flexibility in his decision making and everything was kind of RPO RPO RPO. So, a lot of quick game, one or two quick options. I thought it was a great game plan. He had efficient short game mixed with a lot of selective deep throws. That was Jackson Dart last night. I’m hoping that KOC is taking a page out of that and watched that game last night because I’m assuming he did to get more film on the Philadelphia Eagles. But just looking at the way the New York Giants utilize Jackson Dart should give him some ideas for JJ McCarthy if JJ McCarthy is healthy. Now, if JJ McCarthy is not 100% healthy and he is not able to use his wheels, then maybe you think about giving Carson Wentz the start, that is the only way I keep JJ McCarthy out of this gate. As soon as JJ McCarthy is 100% healthy, man, I am rolling with JJ. Jackson Dart protected the ball last night. Protected the ball. I thought the Giants did a really good job of utilizing tempo to offset a lot of the pass rush that the Philadelphia Eagles were trying to bring to the forefront. They just couldn’t do it. It is a blueprint for the Minnesota Vikings and the way JJ McCarthy and KC should approach this game. They the New York Giants gave you the blueprint. And I think KOC is way more innovative than the New York Giants, coach. And I think that JJ McCarthy total package-wise is a better quarterback than Jackson Dart. If Jackson Dart can have the success that he had last night against this feared Philadelphia Eagles defense, then JJ McCarthy should be able to have the same except the same success. Why this game matters for JJ McCarthy, UP Nation, Gold Nation, Purple Gang, the Eagles bring a lot of heat to confuse quarterbacks. is kind of similar to the approach that Beow has. JJ McCarthy if he plays like that’s got to be a big part of his preparation. What he’s going to see, what the heat is going to feel like, what quick decisions he can make, what hot reads. KOC has to put all of that into the game plan for JJ McCarthy. the more information he has and the more familiar he becomes with his looks, the more comfortable JJ McCarthy is going to be against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s the one thing that stood out to me about Jackson Dart last night is that he looked comfortable. He looked really comfortable. It’s like he knew what he was going to see. He saw it. He made the adjustments. I mean, there were times where he was audibling at the line of scrimmage. So, he had a lot of prep. If you see point A, we’re going to maneuver to point B. I saw that many times last night. Like JJ’s biggest talent is not his biggest worry is not his talent. It’s like all the pre-staff recognition stuff. Is he seeing what he’s seeing? Because I think the scout now on JJ McCarthy is that you can blitz blitz blitz pressure and he’s either going to get sacked or he’s going to throw an Aaron throw because KC is known to have like these five to sixstep drops and that’s what the Philadelphia Eagles are going to be prepared for. So that in itself will help JJ McCarthy. If Dart succeeds with similar tools, it’s fair to expect JJ to match that or surpass that next week. I believe that. Like last night gave me a lot of optimism. If KC is who he says he is, the quarterback whisperer, and JJ McCarthy is 100% healthy, it’ll be after the buy. So, our offensive line will be better than it’s probably been all year in terms of availability. Why shouldn’t we be able to have the same level of success? Like, this matchup now becomes a measuring stick for JJ McCarthy. You look at a guy like Jackson Dart who doesn’t have the two years that JJ McCarthy has in the league last year. Now, this year, this is Jackson Dart’s first year. JJ McCarthy should be more prepared. Fans, media, even coaches will be asking, can JJ do what Jackson Dark did last night. That is going to be the measurable. It is going to be interesting to watch. And it’s not necessarily about wins and losses. UP Nation, Purple Gang, Skull Nation. It is about looking better than the first two games, having a chance to sit out and watch a veteran, looking at the success and processing the film of Jackson Dart. You put all those things together, JJ McCarthy should be able to have a pretty solid game, especially with the quarterback whisperer, Kevin O’Connell in your back pocket. This is JJ if he plays and he is 100% healthy. UP Nation, this is JJ’s statement game opportunity to prove that he’s not just developing, but he’s capable of beating top tier defenses. Top tier defenses. And I just thought it was really telling last night that I had to I’m I’m watching Jackson Dart play and I’m like, what is everybody afraid of with the Philadelphia Eagles? Like, I know they’re Super Bowl champions, but you just had a 22-year-old rookie quarterback this year carve them up. And you could argue that JJ McCarthy’s pedigree is way better, way better than Jackson Darts. So, I believe, man, if the Giants, who are at one and four, who doesn’t have the tools that JJ has at his disposal, if they can put together a game plan to destroy the Philadelphia Eagles like that, why can’t the Purple do it? Why can’t KOC do it? Why can’t JJ McCarthy have some success against the Eagles as well? And here’s what I hope doesn’t happen, man, because I know this is just kind of the reality of it all. These are human beings. These are people. I hope the Minnesota Vikings don’t get caught up in this. Well, it’s Carson W’s homecoming and you know, he’s playing against his old team that he was the franchise guy there and they got rid of him. This was the team that he almost led to the Super Bowl. Got to the Super Bowl, but he got injured. He wasn’t the quarterback. I hope they don’t get caught up in that emotion because yes, would it be great to see Carson Wentz go up against his whole team in the Philadelphia Eagles? Yes, it will be fun. It will be box office. I mean, you can get your popcorn ready for that, man. But it’s time. What overrides all that stuff, the revenge game and all that stuff is JJ McCarthy getting back under center. And if JJ McCarthy is ready to go, for me, that trumps any sort of revenge narrative, revenge game from JJ McCarthy and Carson Wentz. I want to see JJ McCarthy under center if he’s fully healthy and I want to see him have the same successes that a Jackson Dart had last night. Jackson Dart didn’t have goddy numbers but he had two touchdowns, one in the air, ran for one, threw for about 195 yards I believe. So right where he should be as a rookie quarterback, solid game, gave the Philadelphia Eagles a lot of trouble. I think J.J. McCarthy can do the same thing. What say you, UP Nation, Purple Gang, Skull Nation? Give me your thoughts. Put them in the comments. Can JJ McCarthy replicate what Jackson Dart did last night? Gives me a lot of optimism, man. Gives me a lot of optimism. And it brings up the question, what is everybody worried about? JJ McCarthy coming back against this so-called feared Philadelphia Eagles defense. Jackson Dart and the New York Giants didn’t fear anything last night. They got the job done. I think JJ McCarthy can do the same thing. This has been Unconventional Playbook. So you are saying coaching can’t put JJ in a situation to be successful?
JJ will be in when the coaches decide. Carson is just keeping his seat warm. He is just auditioning for another permanent job. JJ is learning in the meantime, cool out.
lol Dart is clearly better than JJ, also less weapons! Come on now
If they hire Connor Stallion JJ can play.
This is why I love this podcast. You made great points. For me it's not so much JJ McCarthy but KOC. Will he over think it? And I'm not sure what the Giants O line is compared to ours. But keep up the great work
But I don't think people thought the eagles would be this vulnerable
