What is the Steelers’ ceiling? | The NFL Today
And welcome back to Studio 43 here in New York City. The NFL today on YouTube. JB along with the professorial staff from the NFL. A number of headline items coming out of the early slate of games. Up first, the Pittsburgh Steelers Bill moving to 4 and one with that victory today. Yeah, a divisional game against Cleveland Browns, which historically has always been a very close game. I just thought what they did today is they keep improving each week. I thought the ground game came out a little bit. I thought the defense really stepped up and particularly going against Junkkins, the running back who sparked last week against Minnesota, Quan Junkkins, the rookie, they shut down the running game and I think that’s been the one thing you talk about this defense. They’ve been in the past a little bit soft against the run for lack of a better word. Not a word everyone wants to be told that they’re soft, but this football team is going to get better. I think when you look at the veterans that they brought in, the Jaylen Ramsies, the Darius Slays, the the Juan Thornhills on that side of the ball, um, and then you talk about Aaron Rogers and DK Medaf, this team’s going to get better in theory the more they play together. I think the biggest question you’re going to have with them is being their health in in December as they go into the playoffs. And I would just say along the way, counting snaps as you start to build this little bit of a lead, developing the people behind you and saving those legs so those players are fresh going in December because in the past few years, we haven’t had a healthy TJ Watt or Cam Hayward or on the offensive side even in identity. And I think keeping Aaron Rogers upright right now is priority. I agree with you. I think it was a really good win. You know, I I I think you look at Cleveland’s record and and you kind of throw it away saying, you know what, you beat the Browns. But that defense is very good. Totally. The way they ran the football, very effective. Jaylen Warren getting going, right? Physical behind the pads, throwing the ball. I thought Aaron was very good today. I I think you got to tow the line of when when do you start to rest as we start to see separation in the north, right? You go Baltimore falling to back to I I believe one and five today. Cleveland in that same space. Cincinnati now on their third quarterback. What are they going to look like this afternoon? I think that’s where Mike T has to to kind of balance it at some point. I think the the foot has to be on the accelerator though as players, right? You can’t be worrying about that. You’ve got to have the foot on the accelerator. Try and create as much space as you can in that division at this point. But I’m with you. I think this team is going to continue to get better as the year gets on. We talk about all those veteran guys coming in. You expect them to perform at such a high level right away. It takes time and you’re seeing it. you’re seeing that constant improvement week to week and we saw the the young fella Dylan Gabriel on the other side and you know the Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Steelers defense they were very adamant about how they wanted to heat up the young fella you know throw him right into the kitchen. Um if he’s a young quarterback in this league right away we’re going to send blitzes. We’re going to mix up the looks. We even at the snap of the ball show him something different. And listen they struggled to actually pick up some of these blitzes. There’s a guy that you mentioned coach Jaylen Ramsey. And then here you rush four. you get to him quick and they just had their eyes on him and were very very ferocious going after the young fell and rightfully so. You get a young guy out there, you’re supposed to heat him up like that. But then on the other side, I love the fact that this offense is really starting to find out who they are. You mentioned Jaylen Warren getting going and then as your wide receiver number one, DK Metave, nine targets, four catches, almost 100 yards. I want to see him get the ball thrown to him 10, 11 times a game. Yeah. Because he’s that type of guy that once he gets going, he’s going to have an impact on the game. Period. And the biggest thing too, Nate, with that, and there’s no question, I think Aaron Rogers today for the first time since we’ve been here, he probably took less hits today than he’s had in weeks past. I mean, he’s hit three or four times. He took zero sacks. So, obviously, this offensive line is starting to find its kind of jelling together, so to speak. It’s chemistry that they have, the communication that takes time. The more you play, the more you have a feel for one. And like you said, Aaron Rogers knows too. He knows how much time he needs in the pocket before he has to get rid of the ball, throw it away, get it out of his hands. All this stuff takes time. Yeah. So it I think they are right on spot. I just go back to the same thing, the rotational element of that they can do. They continue to do that up front. the seven guys, they got Harmon, they got Ben, they’ve got four outside rushers they can sit there, keep TJ, keep I mean uh uh these guys healthy on the outside. Nick Herbick all a sudden he’s kind of develop into the a force on the outside along with the highest. They’ve got and I tell you Patrick Queen today to me was flying around like a guy that possessed all over this team is getting more confidence with each week again trying to make sure they continue to keep everything in perspective keeping keeping everything just one time stay in the now one game at a time a short week now you’re going against another divisional opponents in Cincinnati and then you maybe have like a mini buy but I think I go back to the same thing rotation making sure keeping these guys healthy keeping Aaron Rogers upright developing other people along the way is going to play. And I know you mentioned it real quick, but you know, Tomlin being a guy that can bring different type of players, different types of personalities into the locker room. I at the end of the game, I’m looking at Peppers and I’m like, is that Wait, is that Jabril Peppers? I forgot he was even there. And he’s on the field in Moments that matter making plays when last year people were wondering if he was going to be in the league. But you have a guy like Tomlin that could bring in all these different stars, whether they’re young superstars or the oldest of oldest superstars like Aaron Rogers and still find a way for these guys to all find chemistry and figure out who they are as a team. My only concern is that grass in Pittsburgh, coach. All right. When I saw Bos go down, take out the divot on that. He’s one of the best kickers. He’s not going to miss with that. Let’s get the grass right there in Pittsburgh. Give him a good surface to play on. Mr. Rooney, just tell you the field is great. One last nugget for me as you guys continue to educate the public with this and Nate talked about the number of players coming in. Matt, I’ve heard him talk about the kind of wide receivers that he has or the tight ends getting to know them. All of this is taking place on the fly with more than a half dozen new additions to the Steelers and they’re getting it done while still winning and okay in the division so far. just talk about the challenge from your various perspectives that it just reminds me I go back I don’t know if it’s right analogy or not but the New England Patriots used to get a bunch of guys at the end of their careers you talk about Rodney Harrison you talk about Randy Moss you talk about Cory Dylan Junior Se they go up there because they’re this is on their last this is their last stop they want to go to a building where there’s a culture that exists and they can enhance that culture and they can pass that along to the younger guys who are there and Mike is bringing in those guys that are going to embrace this opportunity, embrace this last chance like we’re talking about with Stefon Diggs that he’s going through up there in New England right now. So, if you get these right guys at the right point in their careers, they can make a tremendous influence and impact on your football team. Yeah. And and there’s there’s a level of respect that works both ways. For the veteran player coming in, there’s a respect of the front office and the head coach and the coaching staff, but there’s also a respect from that staff of the veteran players and what they’ve accomplished at different points of their career. It’s a unique intersection of those two things coming together. And not to mention, you know what they say, a hungry dog runs fast. Some of these guys are hungry for a stamp on their legacy. Some of these guys are hungry- because they’ve never been on a team that has had the potential of being in the playoffs, let alone a Super Bowl run. And you get those type of dudes in the locker room. Now all of a sudden these young guys are looking at a a group of veterans that are doing everything in their power to show up every single day, lead by example, listen to coach, buy what he’s selling week in and week out. And these young dudes have no choice but to fall in love. Or they have had that there at different times in their career and gone somewhere else like a Darius like an Aaron Rogers and realize not the same in other places that maybe you started with. But there is an understanding that Pittsburgh is built that way. Your window is closing and you want to make the most of it. Yes. You know what? And I’m reminded of Cam Hayward when Aaron Rogers was holding out. Cam Hayward was serious. What did he say? Coach, you want to be a part of the Steelers or not? I love We’re not waiting on anybody.
Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson, and Matt Ryan talk about the Steelers after they move to 4-1 with their 23-9 win over the Browns in Week 6.

All you Steelers fans pissed we got Rodger’s in the offseason lmao.. I’m sure don’t feel that way now, I knew he still had it.. you GOT to know it’s the jets organization why he didn’t succeed & win games.. his stats weren’t bad either but anyways. Glad we got the old man he’s still got it baby
Whos number 95? Did he play?
Garret got shut down
We'll see how good the Steelers really are after this Thursday night game! They play the packers, Colts, bills, chargers, lions and commanders
On the other hand, Justin Fields had 9 sacks today.
Here we go Steelers, defense scary solid, o line starts meshin together n arod gets time n starts ta rollin!!!watch out now
Rodgers not sacked today. Against a top 5 defense. Gotta give Broderick Jones his props. For holding up against Garrett. Oline as a whole did great. Garrett had like 2 tackles. Defense did good also. Seems like they are improving every game.
Super Bowl
Colin cowhered awfully quiet….
Rodgers has been absolutely fantastic this year. PFF even gave him a 85 today which is extremely high. Even they are starting to see the light
It’s been really nice having the rest of the AFC north totally collapse. As long as the Steelers don’t implode somehow they’re almost guaranteed playoffs. If things look roughly the same 5 weeks from now, I wonder if they consider pulling Rodgers to save him for the playoffs.
Im obviousoy biased but if the steelers had one more WR threat who knows what the celing would be. Forces the box back more and gainwell and warren look even better, a solid 2nd wr would allow metcalf and ca3 open more too. Trade deadline is around the corner and several teams already out of real contention i hope omar is calling and looking for someone we can peel away.
Nah we still got Colts Chargers Lions and Packers so time will tell
steelers ceiling is superbowl
Definitely win the North. Rest of the North is a mess.
16-1
Beat Colts in AFC Championship, 42-29
Beat Seahawks in SB, 51-39
Just too bad Mediocre Mike dumped our number 2 receiver in Pickens. First 2 measures of a great coach is his ability to manage the talent, and hire assistant coaches that are smarter than you.
We are a number 2 receiver away and the offensive line just playing solid from being a superbowl contender
There ceiling will depends how good there Oline will be.
More Rodgers to Metcalf please…with a side of Darnell Washington! Man that Darnell is a LOAD! First play and boom…though I saw the fumble coming a mile away. Luckily it went out of bounds.
As a lifel ong Ravens fan. When Rodgers went to the stealers I knew they could be a problem. We got lucky with Lamar. They waited to long with Rothesburger. That's the main difference in these two teams! And I'd rather have Tomlin then hardbough. At least he keeps his team motivated. Even when they bad.
you can put Montana, Young, Marino, Aikman, Favre, Rodgers whoever HOF QB you want with Jets O-line or Browns O-line… that QB is not going to make it….
We need some more wide receivers in order to turn that passing game into a next level
Does anyone take Nate Burleson seriously? I feel like he's just annoying as fuck to listen to.
29/52 221yds who am i?
Trolls, Monday morning QB's, backseat coaches, and fairweather fans… I can't hear you, wutz up?
The Steelers are playing good ball right now..There next game against Cincy on Thursday will be VERY IMPORTANT..
Mike Tomlin is 0-7 on Thursday night football..
If the Steelers can sneak out of Cincy with a W, they can win that division.
Without Joe Burrow the AFC North is the weakest division in the AFC.
If Tomlin was the ravens or bengals coach they would be 3-3 right now they have injuries they lose tomlin wins regardless yes he hasn’t won a playoff game but without winning in the regular season you don’t even have an opportunity tomlin gives us opportunities at the very least. Great coach overall the NFL is not easy to win let alone consistently!!!
That was an awesome 8 mins spent, to listen to 4 guys who really know how to chop it up. …….
If we can give Rodgers some time to throw and the defense gets a little stingy, we could finally get a win in the post season.
Aaron Rodgers is a vet. All he needs is good receivers, a few good runners and a strong line to protect him.
Stweers headed for da stuper bowl!!
Steelers are pretty mid. Typical of the Steelers over the last 10 years. Defense is mid but makes s lot of "splash plays" and turnovers so they put their offense in position to get easy points. They're offered is below average but doesn't give the ball away. This is a recipe for early season success but I've teams start getting up for playoff games and the Steelers wear down in December, the turnover become harder to get and the offense can't keep up with good opponents. Then when they got the playoffs they're completely outclassed.
