Uh well, both teams really in that second half were just trading offensive possessions and trading off scoring drives as Carolina got the ball to start the second half. They go down the field. Rico Dowel a 36-yd touchdown catch from Bryce Young. made it 20 to7. Cowboys would respond. George Pickkins, who was brilliant today, 34 yd touchdown, made it 24-20. Ted McMillan, his second touchdown, came into the game with none, had two touchdowns today, the first of his career. Carolina goes back on top 2724. The Cowboys were able to tie it. Then they got a stop, Brian. They were able to get a stop on defense. Cowboys get the football back with pretty darn good field position in the fourth quarter. and they have two plays of negative yards. Yeah. They lose five, then they lose seven and they end up having to punt. So, it was a basically screens to Javvante Williams. Back-to-back plays. Then they had to check it down to Hunter Lipkkey. It was fourth and 18 at the Cowboy 38. They send it back to Carolina. 15 plays in 6 minutes and 7 seconds later. Panthers never gave the football back. And that’s how this one would end. Yeah, that was the story really of the whole day for the Cowboys. We got to the point where Dallas couldn’t punt and and and that was the unfortunate thing that when they did get the ball back and they got it in excellent position that uh that I think that Brian Shottenheimer tried to get a little cute with some of his play calling there. Carolina gets the stop. You punt it back to him. Carolina gets five first downs in that drive. They had a they had they had two drives today, Zack, where they had five first downs. uh on a possession and then they’ve also had another one where they had four first downs along the way. They scored 10 points in the last three drives that they had. And you know that just uh it just kind of shows you Dallas was really really bad defensively on first down today. Yeah. And they were bad offensively on first down today. So early downs, they were struggling offensively and then uh on defense, of course, uh you know, the the one thing that we talked about really all week coming into this game was how worried we were about Carolina running the football with Rico Dattle. Now, Dallas, I think a lot of their their problems have been masked because of their pass defense. Um, their inability to, you know, and I I thought that Greg Olsen made an excellent point. Why are you playing at depth on a fourth and three like that? That just to me and Hunter and and and Hunter Rifro is that type of player, right? He makes one catch, you know? I’m just saying he’s this is his kind of deal. He’s like a little red zone player. He’s a really good third, fourth down player when it’s short yardage, but playing at depth right there. That that was just one of the problems. This defense was really just awful all day. But defense did give you one stop and they gave you the ball back in really good field position and uh you know, you uh you pooped in the bed. Uh the quarterback, they just couldn’t run the ball all day today. uh the quarterback uh him and Pickkins really hooked it up, but uh when they needed to have points and a drive at the end and try and and put a lot of pressure on Carolina, they absolutely could not deliver. So, coaching was poor today. Offense when it needed a play there at the very end, couldn’t get it done on that final drive and the defense was just awful for 60 minutes today. Yeah. 8778811053 the number to call the number to text. 8778811053. a ton of text flowing in here. You know, some are like, “Oh, I mean, you can’t talk about the offense. It’s all about the defense is bad.” I think 100% the defense was bad, but it’s got to run the ball today, though. You got you’re going to find a way. I mean, the one It’s a team sport. Like, we’re going to have to talk about both sides here. And the offense certainly that last drive, those three plays, and then you punt back and never see the ball again. That’s that’s what you circle right there. It was a terrible series. You get the ball on your own 46yd line, you get past that Carolina Panther logo, you’re thinking like, “Oh, well, maybe we can get a field goal out of this.” No, you go backwards. You know, like I say that, hey, they they needed they needed on that final drive to be big. Offensively, they weren’t. Now, defense was poor all day long. They just they they they continually lost on first down. It just would Carolina, you know, they made Bryce uh Young feel totally comfortable in this game when they did get some pressure. You know, we saw some uh some incompletes and things like that, but man, it took it took negative plays or a penalty to put the Panthers in any kind of situation where they were going to Dallas just couldn’t get off the field on their own. It took it took negative it took penalty or you know some type of uh something that uh you know they weren’t many negative plays overall. I mean as far as stops but the penalty some pressure but just not nearly not enough today. And and you know Dallas really got what they deserve defensively. It is it has been masked. It has been masked all season long. And people say well Bruce what about the run defense against Philly? What about, you know, well, what about you started seeing things I know in the Giants game with with Cam Scataboo, that’s what I kind of started noticing that, you know, but they were able to throw the ball in that game. Teams have had the ability Dallas inability to get pressure. Dallas inability to play coverage, Dallas inability to do anything on defense to uh to to to put these offenses in any kind of harm’s way. you know, that they you just you you were just teams were taking advantage of you, you know, past defense. Now teams have kind of figured out, well, last week against the Jets, they figured out just run the damn ball. Even Cowboys offense forced the Jets in this situation because they were able to put a to put a lead on them. But man, this this this defense is uh is really historically bad. the way they play this scheme and the way it’s coached and the way the players are responding to it. The players aren’t helping the coaches by any way doing anything themselves. No, it’s uh I mean to your point about fourth down you’re playing off. I mean I know fans are losing their mind and have been saying the same thing and I’m with you. I don’t understand it. Uh Donovan Wilson continuously being in coverage. I don’t understand it either. They wanted to go to more man. They played man. I’m going to be interested to see on the touchdowns there how much that I mean the T I know the second one it looked like it was man coverage. So I there’s confusion on the back end. I mean how many receivers are running open. So without question I mean I think the consensus here on the text is you know flu the defense you got to you got to move on. You got to make a change. I’m not here to fight you uh one way or another. I think all are true. I think the coaching was poor. I think the players were poor. Uh and and I don’t know that you really do have the talent on that def defensive side of the football right now to really fix it. You really don’t. And we talk about and Brad and Babe talked about the guys that might be coming back and all that. And I I don’t think that’ll really really help. I think you’re bad at linebacker. I think we we’ll see. Overstone is probably not going to come back until the week before Thanksgiving, but you know, to me, this is where if Stephen Jones came out and said, “Well, well, if we see something, we need to make a trade, we’ll make that trade.” I don’t, you know, to me I I don’t think there’s just one player that can make a difference here. I I just I really really don’t. I I I think that to me that you’re you were bad on several different levels. You know, look at look what happened in the running game. You let Carolina just beat up on you in the front. You know, you know, with with Kenny Clark, OSA, all those guys, you know, linebackers, you know, you just could not get off blocks. The secondary doesn’t tackle particularly well. You know, you allow you there they Carolina won the line of scrimmage today. They were playing on your side of the football and defensively you got what you deserve by the way you play today. You did. I mean, you give up 410 yards, 6.4 yards per play for Carolina, 216 yards on the ground. They average almost 6 yards a carry. Uh, and in the red zone, both teams two for four. The penalties ended up not being as much. And you actually won the turnover battle for the Cowboys. They they did not turn the ball over today and they end up with the only turnover on the Donovan Wilson doink tip that he ends up picking. But it was just man I I mean defensively you’re not giving yourself a chance and then some of the I I know some of the feedback is well the offense can’t score every time. We’ve said this all year now that’s got to be that’s what you need. That’s the only chance you have. That honestly is the only chance. The margin of error is so thin. Uh, by the way, Dallas playing 85% zone coverage today. 14% man. Uh, the Carolina Panthers were 14 of 21 for 174 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against your zone. They were three for four for 25 yards and a touchdown in man coverage. So, those were your numbers for today. Just bad. 8778811053 uh the number to call, the number to text. 30-27. Dallas goes on the road and loses to Carolina. A game that you really had to have. I mean, this division, Philly loses on Thursday night, 4-2. Washington plays tomorrow. They’re 3-2. If you get this win, you’re sitting at 3-2 and one. You got Washington coming to AT&T Stadium next week and everything’s in front of you. But boy, this really changes the way that you’re looking at this football team after a disappointing road defeat and your quarterback’s playing at a high level. But when you needed the drive, unfortunately, if you the play calling there I didn’t think was particularly good and they couldn’t run the football. I mean, for the first time this year, they really did not run the ball at all. Absolutely not. No. That you know, Carolina and you know, maybe this is the time now we’re starting to see and you brought it up I thought very astutely while we were watching the game. Is this the time now that are we getting to the two, the three, the four games where Hoffman and Bass and those guys are starting to show that that that’s why they’re the backup players? Yeah. I I mean I I And again, uh we say this every week where you got to go back and look at the tape you do for offensive line play, but I did not feel as though after the initial watch here that it was a good day for Brock Hoffman and Tyler Bass or TJ Bass, excuse me. TJ Bass. No. Yeah. No, not I mean and and maybe Booker’s getting ready to come back next week. It sounded like from Christy there was some positivity uh in that way but really really defeating loss. Uh I I’m I’m upset uh as I’m sure you all are as grown up a diehard Cowboy fan. Let’s let you vent 8778811053. Uh plenty uh to go over in this one. Let’s go out to Harrison and Mosqu. Harrison, you’re on the official postgame show of the Dallas Cowboys. Hey guys, major disappointment today. called in last week and I said I didn’t want to overreact but uh offense guys when a other team is uh scheming you they came in and stopped the run. They was going to make our offense beat them and it made sense. We was short lamb but the offense still performed uh well today. Uh Eva Flu uh part of being a head coach of a team uh Shny got a decision to make. Uh if if we get close to making a a run and trying to get in the playoffs, they’re going to have to go and let evil flu go. It’s no way you can keep it, man. His defense is horrible. They could not stop nothing. It’s like uh being open on Harry Hines in Dallas, Texas, man. Everything was open, man. Running the ball. They uh Bryce Young, the coach, he doesn’t have a feel for the game. Uh Brian, you said it. Hey, when when they started blissing, that’s when Bryce started kind of getting ruffled. Well, hell, you should have started out the game like that. Go ahead and ruffle him up. Everybody know that’s the ingredients to roughing up uh Bryce Young him having a bad game. Rico, they did not run enough run blitz, man. Come on, man. I mean, we looking at the game, fellas. Everybody seen Why can’t uh uh the defense coordinator see it? It’s terrible. Digs. Oh, this was his worst game ever this year. Digs did not come to play. Uh they did run zone that that when you talking about being up close, he had was a short yardage. They ran zone. The linebacker had underneath and and the and the defensive back had had had the backside. But this defense is killing us. Jones and Shardy got to make a decision. You cannot score 30 points and not win the game. You put too much pressure on your offense and we all human beings out. Your offense going to say what the hell’s going out there and the defense going to give them up give up the points like that. and and Carolina don’t even have a a spectacular offense like that. Get rid of this coordinator right now. It’s time for him to go. Brian Shingyham got to make a decision on it. I appreciate the call, Harrison. Thank you. And I mean, we talked about this a few weeks ago. I just don’t think the Cowboys have a history uh of really firing coordinators in season. The the defensive coordinator, even you go back to Mike Nolan, who’s getting texted in a lot, they he was let go at the end of the season. End of season. I don’t know that the Cowboys are really going to legitimately consider making a change at defensive coordinator. And I I guess my big question would be and if that’s the route that you want to go, I’m not going to argue. I’m not going to sit here and defend Matt Illeuse after we I mean square peg round hole. Like you asked the question on Love of the Star yesterday, Brian, of what are the defensive coaches not doing that the offensive coaches are? And I still think you’re seeing examples of this and and I wanted to give flu some time, but you’re you’re not I I don’t think you’re necessarily using your players skills to the best of their ability. You finally sent Maris Leaf a little bit of a pressure play today. He gets a sack for you. You’re blitzing uh Kenneth Murray late in the game. I don’t think Kenneth Murray can blitz whatsoever. He doesn’t know what he’s doing there. Uh playing off coverage, for instance, the stuff with Donovan Wilson continually being on the back end, maybe he doesn’t feel like he has a better option than Donovan Wilson. That could be fair. I still don’t think that the players are good enough on the defensive side of the football right now. So, everything I said a couple weeks ago, I stand by. I think both are true. Right now, coaching is an issue. I think players on the field and personnel is also a massive, massive problem. But I don’t know if you make a coaching change, is that going to fix anything? Well, if you believe in college football, it fixed UCLA. They’ve won the last two weeks, you know, beaten Penn State and Michigan State. Maybe maybe it kind of just gives you a little bit of a boost. know I I you know what I uh I don’t know if you have anybody on the defensive staff like when you know say for example when Brian Stewart remember when when uh Wade Phillips was the head coach Brian Stewart was the defensive coordinator and then like halfway through Brian Stewart all of a sudden wasn’t the defensive coordinator anymore it was Wade Phillips he just took back play call yeah he just took back and I don’t know if you have anybody buddy. You know, like if um you know, there’s some of these times these coaches have these defensive coordinators have buddies. I’m trying to think of the guy that you know, the Zimmer’s guy that he brought from Cincinnati that the line Paul Gunther. Paul Gunther. There you go. Thanks for being on the spot on that one. If you if all of a sudden you you change defensive coordinators, you have somebody Rod Marinelli had like when they were thinking about Chris Rashard you know, and he he took a Rod Marinelli stepped back. I don’t know if there’s anybody on this staff, Dave Oranszi, the linebacker coach, didn’t he come over with with Flu? I mean, David Overreet, the secondary. See, those are all guys I I have no history I have no history with those guys being coordinators. I And I don’t think that they have been to your point. See, that’s what I’m saying. I I just wonder if you’re usually when you can if you try and replace somebody, you want to have somebody on staff that maybe is thinking things in a different way. Yeah, I get it and I understand the frustration. I just don’t know where’s the benefit and and I guess this is now the second Well, here’s Bobby. Bobby Bobby Texas Sorenson. Yeah. Nick Sorson. Nick Sordson who was special teams coach was the defensive coordinator with the 49ers. Okay. that that’s that’s you know that’s thinking outside the box right there for sure. But yeah, it’s it’s I I don’t know if you have that guy. I don’t know if you have somebody like that that and I I think that that to me it’s I think a lot of it has to do with the coach. I just don’t think the players are are very good for and it’s not so much for what they’re trying to do. I just don’t think the players are very good. I really don’t. I don’t think that I don’t think particularly the they’re you know we’ve you you look at what’s going on with with Diggs he he doesn’t even look like the same player Bland doesn’t even look like the same player you know the safety spot has been we all know that that that Wilson has his problems in coverage you know and it’s not as simple as it’s not as simple as oh put Hooker back in there but you’re not good at linebacker you’re not good you haven’t done anything really up front we could talk about Kenny Clark and and all that stuff that the run defense, but I I think it I think it was I think the pass defense masked how bad the run defense was. That’s what that that was my that was always going to be my biggest concern is no, teams are throwing the ball on you right now because they’re having it, you know, Dallas is putting up numbers, but but now we saw a team go toe-to-toe with your offense that ran the ball effectively and was just killing you on third down. They they never really got to third down. I I didn’t even look at the numbers to see what the Carolina was three of eight. See, that’s what I’m saying. How many first downs do they have? 27. There you go. Three of eight on third down. They had 27 first downs. Didn’t have to get to third down. They didn’t have to get to third down. 30 carries, 183 yards for Rico Dattle. Also added four for 56 and a touchdown through the air. More of your calls and texts 8778811053. Also here from Brad Sham, your Cowboys head coach. Brian Shodenheimimer as and more. Connecting changes everything. Let’s go back out to Charlotte and talk with the legendary voice of your Cowboys, the great Brad Sham. And Brad, in in your car, in your call there wide open. Uh the defense, it seemed like everybody was running wide open today. What’ you see? Yeah. Well, I mean, there were a couple of them. There were the one possession in particular uh where they had uh 36 and 34 yard completions. So, that communication is still not happening. Uh however, it’s supposed to work. And again, I don’t know what the call was on that. I don’t know if that was Wilson’s man or, you know, looked like looking back at the replay, Diggs was looking around at different people. Uh, I don’t know if he was supposed to be part of that play, but that was just that was too easy. But I mean, the the uh the way the run defense, particularly the line of scrimmage, has been manhandled for six quarters now. Y is really concerning. This, you know, the Jets, I thought, have a pretty good offensive line. This line’s okay. They’re missing their uh right tackle. Uh they’re on the third left guard and you know you watch the tape the left guard is a veteran guy pretty good player but he was not very good last week. Um and the center is a guy who you know has has is a fillin and they manhandled them up front. Dowel ran well. He ran hard. He’s not that much better. And that was just a domination at the line of scrimmage. That to me is the story of the game. They really didn’t get much pressure on Young, but it really didn’t matter. After the second possession, Zack, I almost felt a stark just like it’s like Canales, the Panthers head coach, threw up a sign and said, “Just everybody stop. Okay, all this passing, no, we’re just going to run the ball and then we’ll be able to throw one when we want to.” And until they get that fixed, nothing else really matters because and I know you’ll have some calls about the quarterback. Our producer, Zach Row, told me he’s already getting texts from his friends. You know, the quarterback didn’t do that. And and I’m just telling you, if you have to be perfect at that job all the time to win a game, which is the case for him now, that’s asking too much. And I don’t care what you’re paying. You cannot score a touchdown every time you have the ball in the NFL. And he is operating with the shortest leash I’ve ever seen. They had two bad possessions. Fair enough. I’m not absolving them. The the one where they settle for the field goal at the end of the third quarter that there was an opportunity there for a touchdown. Started with a bad snap. Not the quarterback’s fault. Started with a lost snap. just a miscommunication, bad time for it. And then and then the that last possession of course was horrible and then they didn’t see the ball again. And uh if that if those are the circumstances under which you have to play quarterback, I I don’t know of anyone who’s going to stand up to that over the course of a year. Brad had 19 rushing attempts for your Cowboys, had eight run stuffs for the Carolina Panthers on defense. Sure. Yeah. So, I mean, I think that the Panthers outplayed and out coached them today. I think that’s a fair statement to make because they the Panthers weren’t that good on run defense, you know, earlier in the year. You know, we knew that that uh 95 was a phenomenal player. And I said that if he if that guy was playing in New York, he’d be Dexter Lawrence, but he’s not. And he’s a very very good player. The rest of them are good. They’re good players. couple of the linebackers are are good players, but um they they just absolutely manhandled the Cowboys front, the part of the game that had been playing well and uh I just don’t think Javvante Williams had anywhere to run and they got outplayed on the line of scrimmage. And when we look back at it, we may say, “Oh, look at that scheme. They were angled. They were tilted. They were those are things I can’t see during the course of the game, but that’s why I think they were outplayed and out coached. And you just Hey, credit to them. They they did that to what has been the best part of the Cowboys game so far. No, absolutely. And you mentioned about Rico Dattle. Just looking at those numbers, the 30 carries, 20 successful runs, that’s four plus yards a carry, you know. So, that just shows you right there that that Dallas just really and to your point both sides of the football that uh you know that they just could not get things done up front today. And but I’ll just tell you if you are playing defense and it’s second and three or second and four all day, which it was. Yep. I I don’t think if except for a kneel down, I mean, a regular play from scrimmage, if they had three first downs that gained less than five yards, I’d be surprised. Yeah. And you can’t play defense that way. You’re you’re just you’re just giving away possession. You’re giving away field position. And that’s what happened today. And that’s not sustainable. That’s just not. And as the head coach likes to say, that can’t be the standard. Hey Brad, you know I just I you you talked about the quarterback and and then the margin of error for is so small, so slim in these games now for him. Uh and it and I think it’s really really really unfair, but man, they they needed something that final series they got that ball right. I mean they to me like you know to me just maybe getting a little cute with the throwback screen or something like that. you just that to me was when you just say, “Hey, let Dak throw it down the field and let’s see what we can get out of this thing if we’re not going to run.” You know, that’s that is not a an unfair uh criticism, especially the way Pickkins was was working and uh you know, and had a perfectly good day. And you know, hey, sometimes the trickery works. They scored a touchdown on that fourth down pass to Lipkkey and no one saw that coming. So sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. And that first down call, Brian, is a great example of where the Panthers said no. No. Yeah. And so and now if that works, if that throw throwback works and he gets seven or eight yards or a first down, then it kind of um changes the momentum and the tempo, right, of the drive. But that didn’t happen. The Panthers saw it coming. And then I think on second down as Babe said during the game, I think he was trying to drill the ball on the ground and Williams wasaugh know that and he caught it. So now now you got two two passes for a loss of 12 yards and that’s asking a lot. That’s really asking a lot. But I don’t put that on the quarterback on the on the throwback play. I mean on paper it’s a good play. You look up and uh they’ve got a defense. That happens sometimes. That’s why I say they out they got outplayed and out coached. No, I I totally agree with you because like I saying to me Dave Canelis realized his best player in the game was Rico Dattle. He he he just he kept he knew that I have to keep finding ways to get him the ball. I just wish it would have turned into in that maybe that final drive. George Pickkins is our best player today. They have no answers for him. If you want to throw it, there’s your opportunity right there, you Well, that I mean I think that’s a fair criticism. That is that’s a that’s a very fair point and it’s a shame that the ball game comes down to it being made like that because your defense gave you zero support. But Brad, we know that, right? We know that the defense is been giving I mean it last week the pass rush I think you played the quarterback perfect and you kind of got things going but man this to me was one of those game and it’s going to be like this all year. I hate to say this, but I think it’s going to be like this all year that, you know, you’re going to have to, you know, that your defense just isn’t good enough. And I think in the postgame, you gave a a great synopsis of it all. It’s like, listen, you know, this is kind of who you are, right? This is who you are right now. You know, Ed Tutall Jones is not walking through that door. Harvey Martin not walking through that door. This is Randy White not walking through that door. This is so you almost have to unfairly offensively do things that you’re just like this, you know, hey, I’ve just got to feature my best guys just constantly until Yeah. Now, I’m not smart enough. I’m not smart enough to know from a schematic standpoint. Can they do something differently, just completely differently with the personnel they have? Because you’re right, nobody’s walking through the now. They’ll get a couple of quarterbacks back. Sure. But can they do something schematically differently to at least at least be competitive up front? At least force, you know, three or four punts a game in instead of two. And if you can’t do it schematically, then it is going to be like this all year because these are the players you have. No doubt. And and and I made that point, Brad, in the postgame a few weeks ago, and I guess Gabe Flu’s covering fire because everybody always wants to fire the defensive coordinator, and I don’t know if it’s a scheme issue or if it’s just you don’t have good enough personnel right now on that side of the ball. Correct. That’s absolutely correct. Now, when when and let me say this, people I don’t want to hear about, oh, Micah Parsons, you shouldn’t have traded Micah Par. That was one guy. Yeah. And uh they last week’s the only game they’ve gotten out of Fowler where he did anything. Uh find me what Sam Williams has done. That’s fair. Ezrau at least is getting better and he almost forced a big play today. Almost forced a fumble today, but he’s improving. But that, you know, Nean Nean really has not been the same guy since he missed a couple games. Yeah. So they’re they’re not and we knew that at defensive tackle, you know, Clark helps. Solomon Thomas helps, but that’s two guys. Odigizu is a good player. But you know, now that’s where I say I don’t know enough to but this can the scheme do something because they’re not they’re not terrible players inside there, but they’re playing terrible, right? and they’re being handled. They’re being handled most of the time over the last six quarters. Now, let’s not make it sound like it was from jump. The Philly game, what hurt them was they couldn’t defend the running quarterback, right? And that was a problem for a little while. They kind of got that and the run defense, remember, for the first what, two and a half games, almost three games, was really good. it really didn’t become a problem until the second half last week. And now that’s six quarters in a row where they have just been horrific. And that’s why I I think that you know coaches can go back and look and say what what are we doing in the last six quarters that we didn’t do earlier and how can we do it differently because again for the third time that one or both of us is saying this in the conversation. Sure, these are the players they have and the help they’re going to get back is mostly in the secondary and you know it’s not it’s not up front and so now Overshon will make a difference but come on he’s not Superman either and he’s coming off of right an absolutely horrific injury. So, I mean the I do think the coaches have to look at it and say, “What can we what have we done in the last six quarters that people are taking advantage of and how can we do that differently?” But then today, they just had a little bit of everything. They just had they couldn’t defend the run, but on the other hand, they couldn’t defend the pass, you know, and it happened both ways and that’s just not sustainable. Brad, thank you so much. We’ll chat again next week at home against Washington. safe travel. Looking forward to seeing you guys. Thank you. There he goes. The voice of your Cowboys, the legendary Brad Sham after a disappointing 30 to 27 Panthers over the Cowboys. In the last six weeks, just doing like quick math. When you start to talk about the starters or the Cowboys, remember last week we were talking about oh guys on the field 8.7, 7.5. If you just kind of look at the numbers, what you’re at the last two weeks with their starting defense on the field, they’ve averaged about giving up about 6.8 yards a carry is what this last two weeks when you when you look at overall how they played run defense. On the flip side, that’s funny cuz Carolina, their players, there’s not a player that was on the field for Carolina. Patrick Jones was the player on the field that allowed the most when he was on the field. The defense was compromised running the ball 2.8. Everybody else was 1.6, 1.8, or 2.0 for Dallas is either 5.8, 5.7. Uh, looking down 5.6. Yeah, the last couple of weeks it’s been particularly particularly bad when it comes to playing run defense. you know, when when when Rei Stewart has one of your run stops and you know, and I’m looking down through this. There was two run stops in this game. Rey Stewart had one and Solomon Thomas had the other. That was it for your run stops on defense. Yeah. Yeah. You’re just you’re getting gashed. And you got Shamar James again leading the team in tackles with 11, Kenneth Murray with seven, Donovan Wilson with six, Rey Stewart with five. I mean, that means they’re they’re getting to the second and third level sure with ease. I mean, I wonder what the yards prior to contact looks like today for Rico Dattle. Probably pretty darn high. We’ll get back to more of your calls and texts. 8778811053. KRLD FM and HD1 Dallas Fort Worth an Odyssey sports station. All right, we do need to hear from Brian Shottenheimimer after uh a disappointing road loss. Cowboys falling to 2, three and one. Here was Shotti Lock Dallas Morning News. Why do you think he has so many problems against the run today? You know, I want to look at it. Uh, you know, I I I you know, they controlled the game, you know, on both sides and you got to give them credit for that. We knew they were a physical football team. We weren’t surprised by that. Um, but they were able to run it and we weren’t. And, you know, this is a Thank you. This is a game where, you know, you got to win the line of scrimmage and we didn’t win the line of scrimmage today. I told the team that it’s disappointing, but, you know, I got to give them a lot of credit. You know, they ran hard. They they blocked well and um, you know, we have to be better and we’ll look at it and we’ll get it fixed. Do you believe you have the personnel to work with uh, Flu Skin? Yeah, absolutely. No question about it. We uh we got to coach better. We got to play better. The physicality of it all. Um you know, we’re a physical football team. We didn’t show it uh today. I give them credit. Um and uh we have to we have to be better. And it’s not just the defense, it was the offense. Yeah, we threw the ball all over the yard and that was great, but the end of the day, we want to be balanced and we weren’t able to do that today. And we got to look at that as an offensive staff and see what they did to to to stop the run. to DLLS Cowboys. Uh how demoralizing is it as a play call offense where you have to be perfect. You can’t blink. I don’t look at it that way. You know, you’re just playing the game, you know. Um hey, our defense made some big stops in the fourth quarter. You know, we weren’t able to punch the ball in, you know. Um and uh you know, when they stop them, we got to capitalize. And I think again, you know, we got to the fourth quarter, which is what we always say. You say you can’t win the game in the first, second, and third. We got to the fourth quarter, had a chance to win. They outscored us 10 to three. And um you know, we got to be able to score touchdowns down in the red zone and uh we didn’t do that. The last drive uh when you got the ball, it was six, seven minutes left. Everything went backwards. Yeah. What wrong with the two screen, screen swing passes, screen passes? Well, the first one was a screen and they they stiffed it out. The phasing wasn’t very good, so we couldn’t get to the corner. The other ones weren’t screens. They were checkowns. And uh you know, this team does a good job of batting the ball and they did that. But um you know, they they played very passive when they got ahead of the sticks. You know, uh Clarence, they they they played pretty passive on second and third down. So they forced us to check it down and um they they took it away. Touch with ESPN. Did you consider letting them score at the end? Uh we did. We talked about a lot of different things and um you know, it’s it’s one of those things I don’t want to get too much into game strategy. We were talking about a lot of different things there, but um you know, we we felt like, you know, we uh didn’t do enough, you know, to give ourselves a chance to win. And um there was a chance. We had a good block on there at the end and thought maybe we’d have a chance to get the block. And again, give them credit. You know, they made the plays today when they had to and that’s why they have the victory. And then if you believe you have the personnel to run this defense, do the players run the defense believe in the scheme? Uh that’s the bigger question. I would think so. I would hope so. I mean, we’re what are we in? Six games in. Is that right? We six games in. Yeah, I would think so. You know, we uh plugged one hole in the passing game a couple weeks ago, right? Um certainly um we’ve shown the ability to run the football. We’ve shown the ability to stop the run. Um but there’s a consistency that’s not showing up and uh we got to be better and that starts with me. It starts with the coaching staff putting these guys in the right position. But again, give Carolina credit. They were the more physical team today. We knew that it was going to be a physical game and uh I’m man enough to stand up here in front of you guys and say that and I don’t like it. I don’t like saying it to our team, but when you turn on the film, that’s what you’re going to see. John with the athletic. Why do you believe that Matt Evus can get this fixed? Yeah, Matt’s a great coach. I mean, Matt’s a great coach. He’s been around everywhere. Everybody’s had good defenses, you know, and it’s not just Matt by himself, you know. Matt’s trying. You know, the players are trying. This is not a lack of effort. This is not that. It’s again we have to be able to play more complimentary defense and you know early in the season we were getting hurt throwing the football and you know this this game we got hurt running the football. We were not surprised and we got to tackle better. You know our gap control is not very good right now. That’s the big thing I’d say to you. Our gap control is not where it needs to be. We’re not fitting gaps right. Shoot. I think, you know, first half it seemed like there was, you know, almost probably 75 80% of their runs the guy was four or five yards before, you know, we had contact on them. That’s not good enough and we know that and we’re going to address it. Fourstar telegram on that fourth down late that they were able to convert on the replay. Don Bland about eight yards off. Have the call there. Have y’all had time to communicate about what the plan was? Yeah, I mean we feel good. We had uh Don um you know in that situation one-on-one and you know uh Bryce made a good throw down and away to Hunter and they moved the sticks. Big play in the game of course but not the only play in the game. There’s Brian Shottenheimimer after a 30 to27 Cowboys loss on the road. A lot of questions about the defense and the scheme and you know Shotty saying yeah he does believe that they’ve got the players to be able to fit what Floose wants to do. I mean you’re six games in now. I don’t think the defense has really looked good for a full game all season long. Something’s got to give and and pass rush was good last week. The pass rush was good last week and and even, you know, some texts are coming like, “No, the Cowboys do have good players.” Yeah, Diggs and Bland we we have been good players in this league. Not right now. They’re not right now. They’re not playing well. They’re not very good. And they’re not very good at safety and they’re not very good at linebacker and that that’s a big big problem. And then you kind of got Kenny Clark in there to to to to do things against the run. I’m sure when you know Matt talks or excuse me Brian talks about watching the tape last week Kenny Clark was getting blocked. We’re going to see this week that probably Oso Diggies was getting blocked. I’m sure Salman Thomas is getting blocked. You know that you you can’t you know if if that’s if that’s the scheme and you know we’ve talked about with coach White Cotton and we’ve given the offensive line coach a lot of praise, right? We’ve given those offensive line coaches a lot of praise. Today they didn’t do a very good job. They did not figure out a way to run the ball against this Carolina team. He talks about balance. Last week they were balanced. They won the football game. This week they weren’t balanced. You know, I I felt like that, you know, with George Pickkins, it’s nice to see since CD Lamb has been down that George Pickins has stepped up and made some plays. You know, made great today. I think today in that fi that final drive you I think you could have wore their ass out with George Pickkins and and didn’t you know and and took time off the clock maybe score a touchdown maybe put some pressure onto them but you know hit the the screen that was a bad call that that that was a bad call you know that just let’s be honest about that you know but it wasn’t a great day it was not a great day for the defense he’s going to have to continue to to defend uh defendheimer Jerry Jones Steven Jones, Will Mccclelay, they need to go in there tomorrow and and like when they go through this film and they start to talk about it, what are we doing that we how can we help? Is it a trade? Is it are we just not good enough? And and it’s not just simple of guys coming back. It’s just not that simple. This this team is kind of who it is defensively. And you knew going into the season there was a possibility that this offense would have to play at a really really high level. And for the most part, the quarterback is. But man, that final series, they did not play at a high level. No, they didn’t. And you know, Brian Sean will talk a lot about having hard, honest conversations. Yeah. And there needs to be a hard and honest conversation right now about what’s going on with this defense. Is it schematic coaching issues? Do they have the right players to be able to fix it? Do they need to change some of the stuff that they’re doing schematically on defense? Or look at this roster defensively right now. And I know a lot of these guys you drafted, you love, but try to have an open mind. And sometimes, and we’ve heard it from others around the league, the Cowboys overvalue your own. And is that a problem right now? Are you looking at, okay, we thought our safeties were awesome, our safeties are not good. We thought we were going to have better linebackers. Our linebackers are not good. We thought Kenny Clark was going to fix the run defense. Well, that hadn’t been the case. Yeah, I agree. I totally agree. I I think it’s overall that you’re talking about and it’s not just a scheme fit. I mean, they physically got beat up today. They physically got beat up up front. I mean, there was those those those uh those blue jerseys were all over those white jerseys today. You know, we talked about what the 183 What did I tell you? It was 183 yards of rushing. Yeah. 61 before contact. 61 of those yards before contact. That’s bad. Yeah. That’s really bad. That is Yeah, that’s that. I mean, you’re not getting off blocks. Uh they talked about the gap I it it’s tough right now to watch this defense and it’s true. I mean, everything that Brad said. Yeah. I mean, you’re you’re asking this offense to be perfect and it is unrealistic. And I think Dak for a lot of the season has played darn near perfect football, but it’s they couldn’t afford to punt. Look, Joe Burrow had to do this last year. It’s probably the best example that we’ve seen recently. A Cincinnati defense that was god awful and Joe Burrow and that offense had to be perfect to win. They went nine and eight. They just missed the playoffs. Yeah. That’s kind of the trend that you’re probably going to be heading in right now if you get this consistent quarterback play moving forward. But you also have a gauntlet of a schedule coming up in the second half of the season. All right, let’s get back to your calls and text. I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently. Dak and Pickkins were really strong, but unfortunately, uh, they get a stop, they get the ball back, they go three and out, they punt back to Carolina, who gets it with just over 5 minutes to go. Jim, what’s going on, my dude? Well, I ain’t doing all right, fellas. That was that was pitiful. That was some of the worst things. Those those defensive players need to take the stars off their helmet and put a little picture of a cow patty because that’s what they were today. I was so disappointed. And you know, you watch it and I I become a smarter football player thanks to you. Uh well, but you know, brought us, you know, learns me up on on his film breakdowns and his co-pilot that rides with him. Guys, they they were they were they they knew what kind of defense we ran in terms that gap scheme. They were doing some creative things with uh showing that they were going one place and and going another. They they caught us with our britches down at our ankles and that was very disappointing. I do think this team would be better off if we had a we had a safety back there that knew how to play, you know, coverage. I mean, that’d be a hell. But, uh, you know, the the linebacking play is is horrible. And I think I think you as much as we complained about his slow feet, Sambourne gave us something in the run game and him not being in there has had an impact. that he’s looked back at those last six quarters. He ain’t got no Sambborn in there. So, very disappointed in that. Very disappointed in uh the chance that we had there at the end. Uh you know, well, I say on the defense, listen, watch a lot of football. Y’all watch a lot of football. You’ve ever seen Ron Renfro play football when he’s at Clemson or whether he was out there at the Raiders, you know what that little fell was going to do? He’s going to make he’s going to make a short yardage possession catch. Yep. And I was sitting there in my living room with my family. I said, “They’re going to go to Renfro right here. Renfro. Renfro.” Boom. And it went right to it. I mean, I don’t know how the rest of us can can see that. How you can’t get it. Here’s the problem, boys. The guys on the defense don’t have confidence in the scheme. They’re not playing free. They’re not They don’t know. They don’t actually know where they are supposed to be. Yeah. And they’re thinking in real time. And you can’t have that. And that’s that. Listen, I put that on coaching. You got to get that you got to get that fixed. And and if and if they can’t do it, then you got to adjust. You know, that’s what Quinn did. You know, a lot of these get a lot of these coaches out there, you know, they they they need spend a little time in the mirror and they look at themselves and say, “What am I doing right? And what am I doing wrong?” And I don’t just he needs to be flushed. And I, you know, I don’t know. I mean, we could get a, you know, we could always bring a bring a uh consultant on through the team or something. Somebody needs to be doing some self scouting on that. Agreed. On that defense. They need to do that across the hall. Listen, it’s it’s horrible. It was pitiful. And let me say this, watch that film. I don’t think our don’t think our returning lineman that was injured last week that came did all that good of a job either. I know our center was before, but yeah, there there was there was not there was not really a lot of good thing good was the quarterback and and Pickkins and and Feno there and that’s where you got to at the end of the game when you got to win a game, you got to put it in the hands of your stars and we didn’t do it. No, we didn’t. And I appreciate the call, Jim. And you know, you make a lot of good points with the defense and the word buyin’s been used a lot and we heard that last year with the the Zimmer transition and then now with with Flu and and yeah, I mean you you heard Diggs wants to play more man. Obviously Flouse is uh plays a lot of zone and historically that’s kind of what he is schematically as a defensive coordinator. uh he needs to adjust, the players need to play better, or maybe you just you identified the wrong defensive coordinator here and what he wants to do does not fit your players because you you’re 6 weeks in now and you’re still having busted coverages and we have no idea uh exactly what the call is, whose responsibility is what. We could make our best guess and we have a better idea when you go back and you watch the film, but to have communication issues like this where you have guys running wide open in week six. Yeah. Come on, guys. It’s it’s time now to get it figured out. Well, when you have over five yards of separation in your defense when it comes to their pass plays and stuff like that, that’s that’s going to be rough. And you know, neither team was particularly good rushing the passer. You had the one sack with from Maris and, you know, Carolina didn’t have anything, but Carolina did a great job of just shutting down your run. I mean, they Carolina could have lost that game letting you throw the ball, but you know, but they they they knew damn good and well that hey, you know, they they figured that that Floose, excuse me, they probably figured that that Shotty wasn’t going to just stay with the pass. You know, he just did, you know, there was like the the Panthers were far better on first and second down than you were defensively and offensively as well. Yeah. And I think the Cowboys were pretty darn effective when it came to throwing the ball on first down. Yeah. And it seemed like they had a lot of runs today on first down. Uh and and they kind of ended up getting behind the chains quite a bit. So that might be something when you go back and you just kind of look at uh hey the the play calling issues offensively and and again I mean Dak was effective today. Three touchdowns. I understand that final drive though. I think it’s totally fair to question exactly what the game plan was cuz cuz I agree with you. uh the day that George Pickins was having nine for 168 and a touchdown, nine catches on 11 targets. You got to look for your best player offensively in that point in the football game and and they didn’t I mean he was not targeted targeted once in any of those three plays. Let’s go out to Charlie in New Mexico. Charlie on the official postgame show the Dallas Cowboys. Hey fellas, uh I guess I’m just going to jump on the train here with all the rest of these people, but I’ve been watching a lot of football in my life and this defense isn’t bad. It’s not even competitive. Yeah, it’s not competitive. That’s true. I mean, it’s like anything an offense wants to do. If they need four yards, they’ll get five yards. If they need this, they get this. I mean, I looked at my buddy in the fourth quarter and I said, “If it comes down to this defense having to stop a winning drive, we’re done.” Yeah. I said, “We are done.” And this was the start of the fourth quarter. And exactly what I said happened and we were done. They ran the ball down our throats. They got down there. They kneelled on it. Ran the clock out. Didn’t even give us a shot. I’m telling you. And and as far as making a change, if anything, make the change. Get rid of him. At least give the fan base something positive to think about because right now when we turn on the Dallas game, every week it’s going to be the same thing. We need to score 35 40 points to be in the game. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks, guys. But we all knew this going in though, too. Yeah. We I mean, seriously, it’s it’s and and the cover’s not wrong. I mean, it it’s But they’re not going to make a change. I I don’t see them. Okay. I say that because I don’t know like Bobby brought up about Nick Saenson, you know, and that that that whole, you know, that’s a coordinator that’s been on that’s, you know, but he got let go by the 49ers last year. They moved him to be a special teams coach. I mean, he Yeah. And there was a reason for that. I don’t know that they felt he was doing a good enough job defensively. If they were going to make a change at at coach, if they were, you would think there would be somebody on staff that they probably would want to do that with. I just don’t I don’t think they have that guy. That’s why I don’t think they’re going to do it. No. Uh and I agree. I I don’t know. The caller’s not wrong. I mean, the caller’s not wrong. I mean, I think the fan base has has zero confidence right now in the defense. But man, let me tell you, that offense needed that. They got the ball in their own 46 and did nothing with it. You know, that that that’s that’s a failure right there. It is. You’re you’re 10 yards three down punt. Yeah. You’re a 10 yards away from getting you’re in in in the field goal range. You can’t you can’t get the ball. When they actually do get a stop, what do you do? You don’t play complimentary football. No, you you you pee down your leg and you know and it starts with the head coach, you know, it starts with how the the the calls that he made it the the quarterback. I mean, you know, there was just there were just things that was just for the it was the worst possible time to have a bad series of downs and they did, you know, and it and and ultimately, I mean, there’s a lot of things that cost them their game, but right there that that to me was the the killer cuz I I tweeted about this. If you’re Dallas, you can’t punt. No, you can’t punt. You just can’t. Yeah. I looked not the way the game was going. You couldn’t punt. No, you you you were holding your breath every time the defense was on the field expecting them to give up points. Uh and then you finally did get that one stop and unfortunately you go three and out and punt the football right back. All right, let’s go to Mike and McKini. Mike, what’s going on? Well, it seems like nobody talks when they’re talking about the defense about how bad Elum is. Every time there’s a terrible play, you look up and you see the back of number two. And I think that play that he screwed up at the end turned the tide and changed the momentum. What do you think? Well, I think to me that was Let me let me let me say this. I think that that John Hussy and his crew that you talk about the the interference there, Dallas got a couple their own way, too. This was not a a screwed us. Now, I’ll say this though that that you know, he he did I felt like he was early. He was early. I he was a really good call. I mean, I know it’s against, you know, the the team that we’re kind of we’re covering here, but I thought that was a good call, but I don’t think the official I thought John Hussy and his crew did a pretty solid job today. They gave you one with the the you know, with hitting Dak in the in the head. Maybe they’re calling helmet to the, you know, helmet to helmet kind of thing, but that would seem like to me it was hand to arm to, you know, and you got the pass interference down the field there. John Hussy’s crew did not not not mess you over on that one. But you’re right. I I felt like that Elum got there early myself. He did. Yeah, I I agree 100%. And uh yeah, I mean Elum Elum has struggled. Uh you Bland I mean you would think Bland and Diggs both playing together the whole secondary struggle. You should I mean that those were two guys that you felt like all right these are cornerstones of your defense moving forward and you are going to be a good a good secondary with two former AllPros. They do not look like the same players. No. No. And I don’t know if that’s because of the injuries if that is what they’re being asked to do and it’s not what they want to be doing. Maybe it is lack of buyin. Maybe it is uh miscommunication, not understanding where they’re supposed to be. I know Bobby was talking about that, people just not being in the right area, which would be scheme related, but they are not playing well. And you go across the board, I I I don’t know anybody right now that you can really point to and say like, no, they’re they’re they’re good. And a lot of text about leadership, and I think that that’s a great point. I don’t know who really is the leader defensively. They don’t they really don’t have one. They don’t. There isn’t a Dak Prescott on that side of the football. And it wasn’t Micah Parsons. So, don’t text in about Micah being that guy. Listen, this this team defensively is just not good enough. Their players really honestly are not good enough, you know, and and I don’t think it’s the I think there’s some things that are scheme related, but how they’re how they’re what they’re what they’re I mean, they’re getting coached and they’re not even doing what the coaches are asking them to do. Exactly. Like 682, you guys just won’t blame the DC. No, he absolutely deserves blame. They absolutely deserve blame. But maybe you just don’t want to hear that the players are bad as well. Like both things can be true. We don’t have to just pick one side of the aisle here. To me, this is where and this is where you this is where you it’s lowhanging fruit. You know, this is where I mean you you Yeah. The defensive corner has not easy thing to do is hey, fire the DC. Yeah. And and that’s that that was my whole point a couple weeks ago. It wasn’t absolving and trying to defend flu. It was I also wonder how’s it going to get fixed if you if you bring in another coach. Is this thing going to get fixed or do you still have the same issues on the field with the players? Back to your calls and texts. We’ll also hear from Dak. We’ve got more player audio. Good block from Steel. Throws it over the middle. Caught by Pickkins at the 50 for a first down. Broke away from a tackle. Running left to the 40. Pickkins to the 30. 2520 and out of bounds. Didn’t like the way he was waving that football around, but wow, what a move by Pickkins. He had a first down, but he broke a tackle and got 20 more yards. He got 45 on the play. There you go. That’s our drive of the game brought to you uh by well, nobody right now. George Pickkins 34 yds from Dak. Sixth place, 73 yards. Put the Cowboys up 24-20. That would be a lead that we were hoping, could they hold? Wasn’t the case. Uh you got Carolina comes right back, goes up 2724. Cowboys did kick a field goal to tie it back up. And then the Panthers holding the ball with 6 minutes and 7 seconds left and kick a field goal as time expired. 30 to 7. Had a feeling had a feeling they were going to lose it right there when they got when they gave the ball back. I had a feeling they were the three and out. And I mean you just finally got the stop you’d been asking for. Then you just punt it right back. And yeah, the the likelihood that you were going to get backtoback stops. I was just kind of hoping Carolina would score with enough time for you to get the ball back. No, they weren’t they weren’t going to do that. Credit to the Panthers. They played some smart football today there at the end. They got that fourth down and and I I do agree like everybody else. What in the world are you doing playing off coverage with Hunter Renfro there? Getting two yards of separation line. Crazy. Yeah, just crazy. Yeah. Zack Walchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout Brian Bratis brought to you by the allnew National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington brings the stories of America’s greatest heroes to life through virtual experience and exciting interactive technology. Plan your visit today at mouseum.org. or all right, let’s hear from Dak Prescott. Client said the LLS Cowboys, um, how frustrated frustrating is it not to be able to get the ball back? And it’s demoralizing you guys have to be perfect cuz you guys blinked there at that fourth quarter on your last time you had the ball with like seven minutes left and then get a chance to get the ball back. Yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s demoralizing. Excuse me. Um, but I definitely say it’s frustrating. Um, right. Like just even the last time you have the ball uh wasn’t probably was our not our best series of the game right there. I mean, other than the, you know, the three and out to start the the game off and, um, in a crucial point like that, we just can’t do that. Uh, and on top of that, right, that being the last time that we touched the ball, um, it makes it frustrating. Um, but that’s the NFL. Um, you know, you trust that those guys are going to go get a stop. Unfortunately, we had a PI call on the third down, then after that, right, they just kind of ate the clock up, kept running the ball, and um, did a good job. Uh, they won the fourth quarter, and that’s the NFL. Um, what we won the turnover battle. Uh, and I don’t know the big plays, but they won the fourth quarter and that was the difference there. And, um, a team that’s obviously second year coach, um, young quarterback playing well, getting better, young running back, right, that we’re familiar with. He told us to buckle up and he went and had a hell of a game. And, um, credit to them. They they got the best and they’re the better team this afternoon. What was open up for you in picking? Seemed like he was having the ball out there today. I mean, he’s just an elite receiver. Um, he’s elite receiver. He’s playing hard. he’s understanding every everything that we throw at him, whether it’s the, you know, in different positions. You saw him in the slot a lot more today making big plays. Um, and then when he after he gets the ball in his hand, some of the things he does is just only George can do. So, um, he’s just a special player. We’re lucky to have him. Um, and and we’re only going to get better uh each game. Can you just talk about the joy he’s playing with? See like just having fun beyond play. He’s just Yeah, I mean, no, you’re right. It’s it’s contagious at that. Uh, I mean, obviously I’m having a blast, but when you get to throw it to a guy like that and he makes a catch and you watch him do the, you know, make the people miss afterwards, try to jump over him. Um, he loves football and you see it on Sunday. I see it all throughout the week. I mean, there’s plays at practice, you know, whether he catches a touchdown and and does his celebration or catches a big play and, you know, act like he’s or or I don’t want to say act like it, preparing to, you know, cut back and make people miss. That’s who he is. That’s the way he approaches every day when he comes in. and uh we’re crazy fortunate to have him, but you see that every day that that that he touches that field and when he’s around the guys, he loves his teammates and he loves the game of football and it’s contagious and it’s it’s fun to watch. Todd, don’t arch with ESPN. You said after the Green Bay game, these next two games will deter will show you what kind of team you have after these last two games. What do you what do you know about you guys? Yeah, I mean, um, we can play with anyone, but it’s the NFL and and we’ve got to make sure that that we’re locked in because you can you can lose any game. And that’s the beauty of the the NFL, the the parody. Uh, it’s that’s why the it’s why the draft set up the way it is. It’s why, you know, free agent is the way it is. And and it’s it’s great. It’s great. I mean, you get into a game like this and, you know, you feel like you’re going to win every second. You know, even, you know, the field goal block right there. Sam’s jumping over and, you know, with the block. In my mind, we’re still going to block it and we’re going to go win this thing in overtime. So, um, we got we got a good team that that that’s grimy. Uh, we’ve got to find a way to to win these games. That that’s the the missing in the armor right now is whether it’s the um tide game or this game, you know, we’ve got to find a way to win games. And if we do that, we feel a whole lot different in the locker room. Now, the reality is the team different? Not necessarily, but but you feel a lot better. You’re taking confidence. And when you get that confidence, that that allows you to to feel more um more confident at the end of games, understanding and and knowing, I guess you can say, and believing that you’re you’re going to pull it out. So, um right now, we just got to find a way to win the fourth quarter. Dag Prescott after a 30-27 loss on the road to the Panthers. Need to find a way to win uh the fourth quarter there. And yeah, I’m sure that you know, he he would have loved to have that last drive back. Uh, I mean, I thought Dak for the most part on third down under pressure and George Pickkins was the recipient of a lot of it was really good today, but yeah, I I think that uh and especially those that are just kind of out on Dak in general, you’re going to point to you finally got a stop, you get the ball back and then you’ll never see you never see it again the rest of the game after you go three out and punt it. Yeah, that’s the problem is that this was the, you know, if you look at the what the nextgen people are saying, Dak Prescott today recorded his longest average time to throw this season at 3 seconds, which with with a 68% of his attempts, taking over 2.5. He was 17 of 23 in this game. And he completed, this was the highest that Carolina had played man coverage the entire season. and that was at about 35%. Prescott was 11 of 12 against man coverage for 135 and a touchdown. George Pickkins was his guy. Pickkins had seven of eight targets for 127 against man coverage. You know, unfortunately, they had a bad series and that’s and that’s that’s really what’s the biggest problem is you’re not going to stop anybody on defense. The players aren’t good enough doing that right now. your coach can’t help you there because he’s he doesn’t really have a handle on what he needs to call and when he does call something it generally doesn’t work. So now you’ve asked your your quarterback who is the leader of your team, the guy who’s going to stand up there and and take all the arrows when things don’t work. I thought it was a really interesting question that Todd Archer asked him and I think Dak if you if you pulled him off the side he would say we’re not effing good right now. We’re not we’re not good enough on defense. We’re not stopping anybody. We’re not doing He goes, “I got to be better on that last drive. I can’t make a mistake. I feel like I’m having to like carry this team, but I’m okay.” You know, he I think he would be honest. I think if you were just pulling him aside and had a beer with him, I think he would tell you. He goes, “We’re not a very good football team right now.” Yeah, we’re not. You know, you’ve had moments where you’ve played well, like the Green Bay game, you played well. I would not be surprised if they play well against the Commanders next week. I wouldn’t surprise. You had two really terrible losses. Chicago and this one both on the road. Two terrible losses right here. Yeah. You know, and and and things when you play that game that and that’s what Dak’s saying. Well, this is the NFL. And I I I think it’s unfair to him. But you know what? They needed to go score. They needed to go score that final drive or they needed to take as much clock as they could, kick the field goal, and pray like hell that Carolina was going to make a mistake. But Carolina’s ability to run the football, that bailed their quarterback out all day. Yeah, he he didn’t have to play. You want to when you’re playing Carolina, you ideally want the game in Byron Young in Bryce Young’s hands. Absolutely you do. Absolutely you do. But much like with Fields and the Jets, those are quarterbacks that will find a way, at least at this point in their careers, to lose it. They will. Or they won’t make the play or they’ll get frazzled under pressure and throw it away. I think I think he’s won nine games now in his career and eight of them have been come from behind victories, but yeah, you just you were not good enough. You were not good enough on defense all day and you weren’t good enough on offense on your final drive to to go win that football game. 8778811053 the number to call, the number to text, the official postgame show, the Cowboys, Zack Wchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout Brian Broad. Let’s get back to the phones. And a lot of you have been waiting patiently. We appreciate you. Let’s hit line five. We got Will in Minnesota. Will, what’s going on? Hey, brothers. Uh, yeah, man. I believe when Jack brought up that buckle up thing. Yeah. His press conference, I believe that was his little jab, his frustration at the defense. Uh, but uh I just have one thing to say about um just firing the defensive coordinator. Yeah, I just don’t think that’s feasible because I think a better thing would be like to add somebody like a Al Harris type because I don’t think these dudes forgot how to play football on the defensive side of football. I just think they need a ear. I mean, somebody to talk to them uh to get them hype like like a Al Harris type guy. Uh because I just don’t think these guys have forgot how to play football and that’s all I have to say. And you guys go ahead and go Cowboys. Thank you, man. Appreciate that. No, they they they’re they’re bad defense right now. They’re bad. Listen, they’re the you know, we could talk about guys coming off injuries and stuff like that, but they’re they’re bad. They’re bad at linebacker. They’re bad in the secondary. You know, they don’t really cover particularly well. They don’t have a lot of options. The pass rush, we saw it last week. It’s been really non-existent. The the fact that people have been throwing the ball on you has hide the fact that the run defense is bad. This is a poorly constructed defense and it’s poorly coached into the situation where maybe he’s trying to do some things. I kind of feel like the offensive coaches have tried to do some things to kind of understand where their where their guys are. I don’t know if the defense has necessarily done that. So, it no, this is I this is this is a this team is playing really poorly on defense. It’s not I don’t think it’s a forget thing. I think they’re just not good enough. No, they’re not. And uh I’ve had a bunch of texts coming in, a few I’ve tried to respond to as well. I mean, it’s a constant back and forth. If you want to say like, well, we’ve seen certain players have success and play well with other defensive coaches, so it’s got to be Matt IFloo. Yeah, fair. We’ve seen Matt Ibrafluence have a consistently ranked top 10 defense and points allowed in takeaways when he was a defensive coordinator in Indie. That’s how you get promoted to be a head coach. So, has he all of a sudden just become a terrible defensive coordinator? I don’t think I is doing a good job clearly. I’ve heard the phrase square peg round hole uh with a lot of these players and he very likely could not be putting these guys in a position to succeed. They seem confused. There’s a lot of dysfunction on the back end. Flu could very well be a problem and and maybe is a problem. But you’re also just right now you got a lack of players. They’re not playing well. The guys that you expected to play well are not playing good football. Not at all. Secondary, they can’t cover anybody. It’s even when they try and play, you know, they’ve they’ve tried to to play man coverage and and teams have taken advantage of them playing man coverage. You know, the pass rush is not consistent. The run defense is not there. It’s it it’s Yeah, there’s a there’s a lot of there’s a lot of stink going around that whole uh that whole group. All right, back to your calls and texts. We’ll also hear from more players uh from the locker room. You’re listening to the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network. Crown Royal and the Dallas Cowboys are bringing back the Royal Rig for season. Sixth of the year, 34 yds and the Cowboys regain the lead. George Pickkins, his sixth touchdown of the season, careerhigh. As Brad noted, he also recorded a receiving touchdown in five straight games, becoming the seventh player in franchise history with a touchdown catch in five straight. CD Lamb last to do that back in 2023. A chance CD Lamb will be back hopefully uh against Washington. Big divisional showdown next week at AT&T Stadium. George Pickkins certainly has been awesome. That is our drive of the game. We will get back to your calls and texts. 8778811053. Zack Walchuk alongside the Super Bowl winning scout Brian Bris. No Jerry Jones. He was not talking today after the game. Nope, not at all. Did not speak. I wonder if he’s going to get on that plane. Probably him and Steven probably pour themselves a drink. Maybe they’re going to talk about what they need to do. I wonder if Will’s going to be on that flight with him. You know, I don’t know. We’ve seen we’ve seen sometimes I don’t think the head coach I don’t think the head coach has ever flown with Jerry like that going back. But I’m sure that Jerry and Stephen are going to have some conversations. uh you know the fact that that just tells you that Jerry was afraid that he was going to say he was going to say something he probably would regret. Yeah. So uh but that that’s never a good thing working in that organization 15 years when that happens that’s that’s generally something bad. It’s a bad loss. Uh it’s one that I don’t know that you’re really looking at yourself as a certainly a playoff contender. I think a lot of fans might be laughing at that sentiment anyway, but you don’t go on the the road and lose to the Panthers uh and and expect that it’s a long season. I get it. I don’t want to just like totally crush hope, but I I I don’t really have a whole lot of optimism right now. Maybe I can pick myself back up. No, this team rule. This team would be lucky. Seven, eight wins. That would be very, very fortunate for them right now. Scoreboard update quickly before we get back to the phones. 10- nothing. The Raiders leading the Titans at home. Masten Genty with 60 yards on the ground. Michael Mayer in the starting role as Brock Bowers out again. Four catches, 28 yards, and a touchdown for Vegas. The Packers leading Cincy at home 10 to nothing. Joe Flacco trying to become the first quarterback ever to beat the same team in the season and one season twice with two different teams because he defeated Green Bay a few weeks ago as the quarterback with Cleveland. Now he’s starting today with Cincinnati. Josh Jacobs 10 carries 33 yards and a touchdown uh for Green Bay Bucks leading the 49ers that one close to half 20-13. Rashad White 50 yards and a touchdown on the ground. M Jones 153 yards through the air and a pick. Of course, Sunday Night Football, you got Lions and Chiefs. We’ll get back to more of your scores a little bit later. Let’s get back to the phones. 8778811053. Uh let’s go out to Joel in Lufkin. Joel, what’s going on? Hey guys. Uh, I agree with you. You can’t put a square peg into a round hole. And the problem is not flu. The problem is two reasons. First reason I think it was giant game when he was asked in the week about game planning against Giants. He said, “We know them very well. We like game plan so much.” He was asked the same thing about the Panthers. He said, “We have played them the last two years. We know them as you saw the game planning stunk offense and defense.” Okay. And I think the scouting, whoever this head scout is, that’s looking at both teams stinks on this game planning because you don’t go screen passes when you’re not running. Anybody with common sense knows that. No, I appreciate the call, Joel. I mean, I I I I do think I mean, a week ago, we were we were praising Shotti and the offensive staff and really for the most part, the offense hasn’t been a massive issue this year. No. Uh they in terms of the game plan. I mean, the running game wasn’t good. They they did not run the football today. That could be credit to Carolina, but throwing the ball was ideal. And I would have never, like I said, to me that final drive would have been I would have wore their ass out with George Pickkins. They didn’t have an answer for him. Yeah. you know, and and I I think, you know, trying to throw the throwback screen and all, yeah, if it works, great. The screen they threw the other day in the red zone was a really really good call. Set up well and all that, but at that particular time of the game, I No, no, I agree. Those those three those were some head cad head scratching calls. And the second one, I do think like maybe Dak was just trying to No, he was trying to throw it away. Devonte Williams makes the catch. Shotty Shotty just said he tried to throw it away. And then I mean you don’t lose seven more yards, but still. Let’s go to Derek in Brooklyn. What’s up, Derek? How you doing, man? What’s going on, guys? Uh, we can talk about the defense and we’re blew in the face, but my question is, when does Jerry go to George Pickkins and say that Dak is the best quarterback you’ve ever had? How about you sign here for a little less money? There’s no reason for him to sign at all here, to be honest with you. I mean, it seriously, if I’m if I’m his agent, I play this thing out. He’s going to get far more money from somebody else. He’s proven to be, you know, everybody’s saying that everybody that talked bad about him in Pittsburgh is all kind of hiding under a rock right now because George Pickkins has been a model model teammate. Everybody’s talked well about him. He’s not take there’s no reason for George Pickkins to take any less money for any for any reason from you. He might like it here, but he he’s George Pickkins has resuscitated his career. He needs to go out and make himself, you know, $35 million, not $25 million. Thanks. Appreciate it. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you, Derek. I mean, hey, am I am I wrong? No. I mean, I was uh I I was asked this question on Twitter. Yeah. And they were talking and I’m like, “No, George Pickkins, he you know, George Pickkins is probably super happy to let this thing play out. let it play out and then, you know, and see how he goes because the way he’s been playing the last several weeks, he’s his value to you or to himself is really really more than probably what you’re willing to give him. I guess trying to to to go with what Derek might have been thinking is the situation matters, right? And clearly this is a good situation for him. Playing with a good quarterback and Dak the locker room, it sounds like tremendous. It is, but I don’t know where where else he goes. Does he is it a better situation? The money might be better, but is it a better onfield football situation? Yeah, he could he could, you know, right now you’re you’re a team that this this defense is a complete rebuild. A complete rebuild, you know, and you, you know, until you figure that all out, you know, you might not even have the right coaches here for that. So, if I if I’m George Pickings, then, you know, go go make your money somewhere. go make your money somewhere and and uh to me and then you know you’ll probably be in a better situation that maybe is not having to have a complete rebuild. Yeah, I do think as fans like we we like to talk ourselves into you know team discount maybe take it just it doesn’t these players your career could be done in a play. Yeah, a lot of these guys you got to go and make the most amount of guaranteed money possible. Uh, and and for George, the smart thing to do is probably go see what that market is. And when I when the trade happened, I Pittsburgh, the the word I got was his group wanted north of 25 million. Pittsburgh had said we’re not going to pay that. So, they knew they were moving on and they might as well trade him. I guess some of the other texts we’ve gotten, Brian, would be, you know, if you’re not a team that looks like you’re going to contend. Now, I believe the Cowboys front office believes they will, would you consider trading Pickicket now while his value super high? You and I had this discussion. If you if you’re a team that you do not feel like you’re going to resign him and you can get more for him than and just letting him walk. I maybe get your third back or get especially if you’re rebuilding a defense. Yep. If you know what if you get everybody back and I know it’s crazy talk, but if you’re a team that’s you don’t feel like you’re going anywhere and if you’re losing to the Bears and the Panthers, you’re not going anywhere. You’re not going anywhere. So, uh, you know, the the possibility, that’s why I asked Stephen Jones that question about h how the team, you know, how does the team is is how the team plays the next several weeks going to tell you? And he was like, no, no, no, you’re going to make a move and all that. The last thing I want them to do is make a big swing move and this team still suck. And I think that that’s totally on the table. Yeah, I really do. Yeah, I I mean it’s just just going by my lifelong history as a Cowboy fan, especially if the feeling is the fan base might be kind of jumping off the the train, not believing that this team has a chance this year. Do you make a move to try and generate? I mean, I kind of felt like the trade for Mingo was a trade to just make a trade last year. This is this is George Pickkins value uh over the cap valuation. Uh and this is probably before the game today. 28.6. Okay. I think that’d be super fair. 28 million a year. Yeah. I mean, he’s he’s a hell of a player. That that’s But that’s now we’ll see what it is. Where does If it gets to say if he got to 32. Yeah. Or 30, you know. See, now you’re looking at like is it again roster. I think 28 I think 28 is I think 28 is I think that’s totally fair. I think that’s a completely fair deal. But should George Pickkins take 28? I mean, this this valuation is this this is going into this game is what it was. And so, it’s probably a little bit higher. Yeah. Uh after this one, but yeah, I mean, I think that that would be I mean, I think you you’d probably want to try and compare it to AJ Brown and Dvonte Smith. Uh what what are the Eagles doing there with that? He’s making he’s making 3.6 right now. It’s crazy. See, that’s on that rookie deal. Yeah. George Pickkins is going to he he has completely proved a lot of people wrong when it came to being a teammate and a hothead and all these things that everybody kind of painted him as. Yeah. Appreciate the call though. But yeah, I mean if you’re not if you’re not if this thing turns into where it’s 32 $33 million and you’re paying what are you paying Lamb? 35. Yeah, I think 35 sounds right. Yeah. So what do you you know can you can you do both? You pay two receivers. I mean, I’d like to say yes, you can. But he’s been this guy’s been outstanding. But the thing about it is though, if you feel like that you’re not going to be able to repay or to pay him and you’re not and you’re and all a sudden you’re starting to lose games again, you maybe you lose that Commander game and you go to Denver, you lose that one. I might consider I might consider trying to get something from him. 8778811053 the number to call the number to text. Higgins for most average per year, which I think is right around I guess T. Higgins that would be the number two in Cincinnati who’s making just under 29 28.75 and then Jamar Chase who’s making 40.25. CD uh average a year is 34 million. Okay. Right now. So that’s what you’d be looking at. So if this thing turns into over 30 64 million in receiver, then you’re talking about like AJ Brown, what Almond Ross St. Brown just got. Brandon Iayuk what he just got from San Francisco. I would argue picking is probably better than I mean I he’s commanders, right? He’s the Commanders. Uh 49ers. I You’re thinking of I’m sorry. My bad. My bad. No, I knew where you were going. I’ve worked with you long enough now I can figure it out. 8778811053. We’ll get back to your phone calls. Uh here also on the Dallas Cowboys radio network, Zack Walchuk alongside Super Bowl winning scout Brian Baris. 30 to 27. Cowboys had a disappointing loss on the road to Carolina. Trayvon Digs is courtesy of Calvin Watkins. Quote, “Yeah, it’s very frustrating. It’s all these points the receivers are running wide open. Too many busted coverages. It’s a lot. I feel like we’re all over the place and we really don’t have no identity according to Diggs. Yep. He had played worth a damn himself. He hasn’t. His identity is they give up big plays with him on the field. They give up big plays with Bland on the field. You know, just take your pick. They don’t they don’t particularly last week they’ve got, you know, fortunate to get a pass rush. They haven’t been very consistent doing that. The one thing they’ve been consistent at is giving up big plays. Yeah, it’s true. And you know, and you you know, it it really doesn’t matter. Run the ball, throw the ball, and when you got guys just so wide open, Carolina hasn’t done anything all year long. You made them look like a top five offense the way that you play. And they had a backup tackle, a backup right tackle that you weren’t able to take advantage of either. That’s not even their starting running back, by the way, either. No, that would be Chuba Hubard, who is out right now. Enrico Dael according to ESPN research uh and and our buddy Todd Archer first player with 230 yards from scrimmage in back-to-back games since Levon Bell did it in 2014. I think he’s also the broadcast on Fox noted he was the first undrafted free agent to ever do it in the history since 1970 since the merger. Yeah, good for him. He he he he came out he knew he said, “Hey, they better buckle up.” And he knew he knew that they you know he knew they listen he played here. He he he keeps an idea of what’s going on, you know, he kept an eye on what’s going on in Dallas. He saw what was going on with the run defense and all that. And Carolina, give them credit, man. Dave Canel, what was the path to victory? All week we talked about it. Run the ball. Run the ball. Yeah. And it made life so much easier for their quarterback. Their defense was the their defense was just, you know, their defense, you know, don’t they, we talked about this, don’t rush the passer particularly well. You know, there were opportunities where you could have taken advantage of the quarterbacks. I thought that Dallas might have a better have a chance running the ball on the edge. That’s why I was wrong about him. I thought they would be able to create some designed runs, but you know what, that last drive they you know that they just they got a bad sequence and play calling and it it it it killed them. It killed them in the game. Yeah. All right, back to the phones. 8778811053. Let’s go to Rosco in Midland. Rosco, how are you? Good. Couple of quick points here. Uh, we got a 51-year-old rookie head coach. That should say a lot that he’s a rookie and he’s 51. Two, the players that are out there are products of Will Mcclelay. Sure. Jerry’s not scouting these guys. Steven’s not scout. It’s Will Mcclelay that’s present. Coaches involved here. Coaches involved here, too. And and coaches, they are presented to Jerry. Jerry in turn drafts them or whatever. Sure. So Will Mccclelay seems to get a pass from a lot of people in our little cute cowboys community. Not so much from you, but No, no, no. I mean, I I don’t hate Will and them boots. Yeah. I I I appreciate you, man. I really do. I think this is I think this is this is a this is an organizational problem, you know? This is an organizational problem. And and I like I say, Will Will and I have had this discussion before and I and in the past I’ve tried to give Will some cover on stuff. Will said, “Nah. Uh-uh.” And and so you know what? I’m not going to do that anymore. And you’re absolutely right. They they all should take they should all take a uh you know, a look in the mirror here about the way their team is constructed, especially on defense. They should. They just they they do not they do not have they go out and they draft a pressure player. We’ve seen Ezarco do some good things. But Sam Williams highly disappointing. You know, look at what you know, look at Listen, Kenny Clark, I don’t think was particularly great today. They tried to tell us that Kenny Clark great run defender and all that. You know, it it’s just who brought in um I flustas. Did Seanheimer hire him or is that a Jerry thing? I think that there was some familiarity. Now, let me let me be honest with you here. This is where the general manager you do and I and it happens in other teams. You know, coaches, maybe coaches you’re familiar with and you’re going to give a coach a suggestion. You say, “Hey, listen. We had Matt Eberloose here. Would you, you know, talk to Matt, see what you think about him? See what you think.” So you make suggestions, but yeah, ultimately Jerry Jones, Will Mccclelay, somebody recommended Flu to uh to uh to Shottenheimer and that’s how you have your hire. So that’s two quick things and I’ll hang up. Jaden Blue star down. Oiggy Zoo star down. Well, yeah. I don’t know what the hell is going on with Jay on blue. They don’t block worth a damn. It’s very It’s very much hand him the ball. It’s kind of like what we used to see with Deuce Vaughn. Yep. I was just thinking that it’s Deuce Vaughn carrying the football with with with with Blue in there. Yeah. I mean, he had three carries uh resulted in no yards. Yeah. I mean, he had a run of two and then I think the others were were TFL for him. But it’s a hard it’s hard to get an assessment on blue, but I agree with you, Rosco. And I didn’t I thought I saw OSA getting pushed backwards. Um, but yeah, I mean I I think on our on our flagship uh on on GBAG, I made the case a few weeks ago that really defensively they’ve failed at drafting since 2020. Absolutely. 15 of their 25 draft picks are no longer with the team. That does include Micah Parsons whom they traded. But right now, guys they they looked at and and I pointed this out earlier, you know, Diggs and Bland were drafted and resigned and thought, okay, and and have been all pro players. They look like a shell of themselves right now. I mean, Maris Lee a foul had the big play last week. He’s got mo he had the the sack today, but there’s times where he’s missing tackles in open field. He’s taking poor angles. We’ll see about James. We’ll see about Ezrau. Nean’s not looking great right now. Uh and on offense, I mean, look, they they found like Ryan Feno, I think, is a player we’re excited about. Obviously, they drafted him. Uh and and that was a great find from Ross Winy and Justin Stucky and the scouting staff there. But I mean, offensively, they they’ve kind of got a lot of their core locked up for the future now with CD and Dak and Ferguson and Tyler Smith under contract. Gayton’s got several more years. BB’s got several more years on his deal. Steel’s under contract. We’ll see if they decide in the off season. Maybe that’s a cap casualty type of move. Williams, they’ll have to make a decision on. But it it is this defense. I mean, this defense the the future of it is is totally I don’t know. And I think it’s a fair question. Was Shotty because we’ve praised Shotty with a lot of his hires this off season. I think Jiren Steven recommended this one. But was Flu more of the team knew him and there was comfortability there and I think it’s totally fair to say first time head coach you’re like you’re hey what about this guy if you’re who do you got in mind for defense and they like somebody with former head coaching experience and I had some people text in asking about Zimmer and you know Zimmer well. I talked to Mike. Mike Mike wouldn’t come back here. Mike they they’ve they’ve told Mike that they’ve promised Mike stuff. Mike wanted the head coaching job here and they never even talked to him. I don’t think Mike’s coming back. No. All right, let’s go to Calvin. I mean, he told me he wouldn’t come to come back and I get it. I understand feeling that way. Uh, let’s go to Calvin. Calvin, what’s going on? Yeah. Hey guys, love uh listening to the post game. I’m traveling back from the game. Um, the offensive line didn’t play good at all. No, not at all. Is Smith still hurt? Because he didn’t look like himself. And I think you know Bass and you know the Hoffman played good last week. They’ve been playing good the past couple of weeks but today they got manhandled well in the running game they got manhandled because if you look at if you look at the metric numbers that came out after the game they didn’t give up pressures like Carolina did not have it. This was not a pressure this like Dak had the most time he’s had all year to throw the football. If you look at the Yes, I agree. Yeah. The the run blocking stuff was awful. Awful. Yeah. Yeah. So, my my question, the last caller kind of stole my thunder. If something happened to Williams, the running back, is Blue ready? I know you guys follow him at Texas and saw him at training camp, but is he ready if we have an injury there? Like, well, hell, if they block Yeah. If they block like this, he’s I don’t care. Walter Payton’s not ready. No, but I I also I’ve never thought that Blue was that 20 plus workhorse primary back. I don’t think that that really fits, you know, his game. I think he is a really good tandem runner. That All right, let me just real quick the metrics on 34 pass block reps. Mhm. Steel had two quarterback pressures. Tyler Smith had two. Hoffman had none. Bass had none. Gayton had one. Wow. And they had no sacks. Yeah. No sacks. This this game came down really to their inability. Damn, Dallas should have never run the ball. Should just like they did week one against Tampa several years ago. Just keep abandoning the run. We’re just going to go ahead and throw it around. And maybe maybe in hindsight that that would have been a better game plan. Let’s go to Ron and Garland. Ron, you’re on the official postgame show. The Cowboys. Hey, good afternoon. Hey, just uh one quick thing. Y’all was mentioning draftics rough. Uh Marshon Nean, I mean, he’s getting blown off the ball every every time uh today. And u uh everything that y’all touched on uh I agree with, you know, but I I just don’t care for Lewis. I just don’t think they’re buying into his scheme at all. I mean, there it’s it’s gap football and if you can’t fill in the gas, then you’re going to get run on all day long anyway, you know. And uh just quick real quick before I leave you. Uh uh Pickkins. I love Pickins. Uh he reminds me a lot. I don’t know how old you guys are, but he reminds me a lot of uh uh Alvin Harper back in the 90s. Yeah. His jumping ability and his hands. He’s good. He’s a better receiver, I think, than Alvin Harper myself. But I I know who you’re talking about because I got I got beat up by Alvin Harper a bunch. I know who you’re talking about. No, thank you for the call run. I mean, Piggins is outstanding. the talent. I mean, he he tal Harper was not a great route runner, I don’t believe, you know, but Alvin Harper go get the football. Alvin Harper run after catch, big time plays and big time moments and and yeah, I mean, George was was absolutely uh phenomenal today. He really really was. But yeah, I I I think that six weeks just trying to gather as much information and and what we’ve seen, it does appear that it it’s just it’s just not a good fit. I they they might have just hired and identified the wrong the wrong coordinator for what their players that they have. And I still think I’m 100% with you that they’re going to have to retool and rebuild this defense because unfortunately a lot of the players that they thought highly of that they expected to play key roles just haven’t performed. Now the counter is well is that scheme related? Very well could be. But I do wonder now if players aren’t buying in and that’s something that’s not just a fan conversation. we’ve we buyin was something I think it was Jerry uh used those words when he was on with KC uh on on Friday. So, you know, if there’s not buyin from the players and there’s frustration, then yeah, I mean, may maybe this just isn’t for for what Floose likes to run uh and and the players that you currently have. It’s just not a good fit. Well, they’re just not playing well. I don’t know if Buddy Ryan could coordinate this defense. I think there’s I think there’s I think there’s problems I think there’s problems with the players. Yeah, I don’t think the players are are right now are good enough. I don’t think they cover particularly well. I don’t think they they don’t get off blocks nearly. I’m just trying to find some light at the end of the tunnel. And maybe there isn’t any right now. It’s an oncoming train to to remove one than all 11 if that’s what you’re trying to do. I I We knew this, Zach. We knew this coming into this into the season that it was going to be very Cincinnati Bengal like that’s bad. Yeah. I mean, it was going to be Yeah. Dallas could not afford an offensive a punt. They couldn’t afford a mistake. They can’t afford a threeand out. A three and out in that last final drive lost them this game. If they score that touchdown, hell, they still might lose, but at least that’s what it was probably going to take. Yeah. You know, whoever had the ball last. Fortunately, it wasn’t the Cowboys. All right, let’s go to BK from the BK Lounge there in Fort Worth. What’s going on, BK? Oh, just enjoying the afternoon. Uh, it’s a pleasure to talk to you guys. Really love and respect your opinions. Thank you. Uh, but I’m sitting out here half loaded now and maybe this is crazy talk. So, roast me or toast me. We need co-head coaches at this point. Don’t want to run the defense cuz Shotti is not doing a bad job at offense. Um, and Jerry’s got the funds to help UNCC facilitate the buyout and we bring Bill over here to run this defense. you know, I mean, then it opens the doors to, hey, you now got your your hands on Bill Bich and what he’s got to offer and he’s here if you decide that Shotti’s not working and you want to make him your head coach. But crazy talk, I know, I’m sure. But, uh, we got to have something happen. Flu needs to, uh, to move on. I I love the thought. I mean, Bill Bich, one of the best defensive coordinators ever. I just don’t know what’s in it for Bill unless he has no other option. He just wants to stay coaching. I don’t know why he would take a coordinator job. No, I mean, hey, I I appreciate outside the box thinking. I like I mean, the idea I’d be excited about the idea. Yeah. I But yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know that Bill would do that. All right, let’s go to uh I don’t know that I can really go with this. Um Big Buford in Mineral Wells. What’s up, bro? Hey, this is How are y’all doing today? Good. I just want to say that I’m doing great. I love the fan. I love the show. I love the after show. Brian brought us Super Bowl champion. My hero. I love your insight. Appreciate that, man. But here’s the deal. I mean, we’re we’re right. Sorry. You You cut out You cut out. What did you What did you say? What did you say? I I don’t understand if we’re playing for this year, we’re playing for next year. The playoffs would be great, but Oh, you’re playing for this year. You’re trying to play for this year. You’re just not good enough this year. That’s the problem. Exa Exactly. So, yeah. At what point, being a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, do we say, “Well, let’s take this L.” Oh, no. You’re going to You’re going to naturally take L’s if you keep playing. I I can’t ever do that. No, you don’t. You don’t. Yeah, you don’t. You don’t. I I can I can know big picture like the L’s probably good. Like last year when we you realized that it’s Hey, D Hey, Dadd went down on us. He took the He took the L. He could have got that W in the end zone. What’s the difference? Well, that was a smart play. Uh that that was a that was a winning football play right there to go down and realize, okay, now all you got to do is kneel out the clock and you can kick the field goal. That was I mean otherwise you do give the Cowboys the football back and they’ve got an opportunity to tie it and send it to overtime. And I you know I mainly just wanted to say I love the show. Thank you. I love you guys. Thank you. And uh let’s take them L’s. I love you, bro. Yeah. I mean No, they’re naturally I and I as a fan and maybe other fans can be different about it. I can’t ever root for No, no, no. Front office won’t do that either. No, but you’re just naturally you’re going to be every game is going to be like this for you. Unless you play somebody that’s just really, really, really good on defense and they completely shut your offense down, but you’re probably going to be in a lot of these game. We we we just knew this going in. Just knew it going in. Unfortunately, you didn’t beat the Eagles and you didn’t beat the Packers, you know, and I mean, you had games you had a chance. You had blown out by the Bears, which was ugly. The Bears game was awful. This one was awful considering the situation. Yeah. This is just, you know, you just naturally go play football. You’re going to take L’s. If unless your offense scores 50 points, that opens up a couple lines there. 8778811053. The number to call, the number to text. Postgame will go till 9:30 on the Dallas Cowboys radio network. Let’s hear from Tyler Smith. He was back in the starting lineup after missing last week’s game. What would Tyler have to say? Uh, I mean, we just didn’t execute the way we needed to. Um, I think they had a a great plan in terms of like stopping us and, you know, preventing us from, you know, having those efficient runs. That’s just something we got to work on in practice is getting more efficient at, you know, dominating those difficult looks. But kudos to them. Um, they do what they supposed to do. Two, three, and one. What do you guys do now? How do how do you write the We win next week. That’s all you can do. You go to work, you look at the tape, figure out what you got to correct, and then you go win next week. You keep winning until, you know, eventually we get to where we need to go. You guys are so up and down right now. Um, I think the what frustrates me is just, you know, we want I know we can execute and we can beat anybody. It’s just a matter of, you know, doing that. You know, I think that’s the most important thing is just week to week continuing to work on the fundamentals of things. You know, continuing to see things coming, continuing to slow the game down for us and then just staying in the fight. Like we we already know how these games can get. This is an NFL. It’s any given Sunday type league. You know, you got to be ready for anything. You got to be ready to go to fourth quarter, overtime, and things of that nature. So, I think we just got to be consistent with that for sure. Said you guys weren’t physical enough in both sides. Was that when you hear that? He said he told you guys that. I mean, yeah. Um, I think we could have been better physic physically. I think uh we didn’t run the ball the way we wanted to and um I see that as a challenge to us to see who we want to be. Um, you know, I think that’s important. We have to be efficient in runs. We have to stay ahead of the sticks. I think that’s something we just didn’t do good enough today. Yeah. How hard is it trying to stay ahead of the sticks when that first play or last drive is a screen up and how how much more difficult would that make up? I mean, it is difficult, but I think it’s a matter of execution. like, you know, I’m not going to reveal all the keys, but I think, you know, if I if I had done something better on that play, it might have been more successful. Now, it’s a would have, could have, should have now, but it’s about the details of things, you know, doing stuff the way you’re coached. And when you do get those exotic looks, just building that chemistry and knowing what to do like, so I think we could have been better there. You guys had so many close games and the losses outside of Chicago we’re all close to. Does that kind of illuminate the importance of details? And it absolutely does. I think we have to dominate every opportunity that we get. Uh um and it’s just a matter of being consistent with it, too. I mean, you’re only going to get the ball so many times. You know, they were running the ball extremely well. They were staying ahead of the sticks. They were making long drives. So, I think every opportunity we get, we just got to dominate the right way. Your thoughts on the dude went 183 out there. Shoot, man. I mean, he talked this club and he he backed it up, but he’s a hell of a player. I already knew that uh coming in here, but you know, kudos to him. He had a hell of a day. Um, I think most of it was on us though. We just got to execute better. We execute better, he’ll be strapped up next time. There’s Tyler Smith. Uh, and I’m sure, you know, maybe not his best game. We’ll go back and check that out, but his thoughts following the post game. Some big injuries in the NFL just to update you on what’s going on of 20 to9 Bucks leading the Niners in the biggest game this afternoon in the NFC, but linebacker Fred Warner Yeah. suffered a dislocated right ankle. Yeah. Uh so he’s going to meet with doctors to determine how much time he’s going to miss, but he got carded off. Trey Hendrickson, who we’ve thrown out as possibly what the Cowboys want to trade for an edge, he’s been ruled out with a back injury for Cincinnati. Yep. And achuka in this same game against San Francisco uh has left with a hamstring injury and is doubtful to return. So Baker Mayfield now playing without his top four wide receivers as well as Bucky Irving. their running back and I think just threw a touchdown. Just threw a touchdown. Just found a guy. I mean, there you go. Uh and and that’s another thing, you know. I think the Cowboys certainly last week we praised them. They won a game with four Johnson Pes Johnson out of Oregon, huh? Speedster. Uh we praise them for winning a game with four backup offensive linemen. But you see what some of these teams are doing defensively and in its patchwork and you see what the Cowboys defense is doing. I mean, really not even competitive as we had a caller earlier. All right, back to the phones. Let’s go to Robbie in Hillsboro. Robbie, you’re on the official postgame show of the Dallas Cowboys. Hey, how are y’all doing? We’re okay, man. I just had a couple of things. I mean, there’s two big problems with this team. I’ve been watching football for 50 years. There’s two giant problems here right now. Jerry Jones is the biggest one. I’m a Jerry Jones fan. He’s a great oil man. He’s a great businessman. He’s not a football guy, right? He fought for the salary for a salary cap and he fought for uh free agency. That’s that’s the two things that are different from when the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl in 95, right? They there was no free agency. There was no salary cap. Jerry Jones could outspend everybody. They had three deep at every position. When it comes to drafting and doing things, Jerry has never been able to do it the last 30 years. But the next problem is is is is he is still part of the problem. Nobody wants to work for him. We can’t get a great coach. We can’t get great coordinators here because he’s got their thumb on everybody. Can you blame him? Look at Sam Darnold, right? He’s a prime example. Look at Look at M. Jones right now, what he’s doing behind great offensive coordinators. If we could get rid of Jerry or something or he could bring in some coordinators, get somebody to work for him. And the next thing I’m going to say, nobody wants to talk about Dak’s money. If you look at who’s won the 10 out of the last 20 Super Bowls, right, it’s Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Are you blaming him, sir? Are you blaming him for this record right now? Who? back. No, no. Listen what I’m listen what I’m f to tell you about that. Oh, by the way, I’d like to work for Jerry Jones again. I did it for 15 years. I I like working for Hey, I love I love Jerry Jones. I It was one of the best bosses I’ve ever had. I’m telling you, I love Jerry Jones as a as a businessman. But let me tell you what the problem is. I say as a football man, I like him, too. Listen listen, though. Listen, let me make this one more last point here. 10 out of the last 20 Super Bowls were won by Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. You know what they had in common? They both made $20 million less than the average highest paid player in the NFL. Right. Dak is good enough to win a Super Bowl if you put the money into the defense. He’s not good enough paying him 60 million a year. Is it his fault that he that he’s being paid? It’s he could have he could have took less money. Brady did. Mahomes makes 45 million a year. What do you do for a living, sir? I’m a used car salesman, sir. I’m going to come in there and I’m going to buy a car from you. Yeah. I’m I’m just telling you. I’m I’m going to I’m going to I want I want a deal I want a deal on my car. I want a deal on my car and it’s going to take it out of your commission. You good with that? Exactly. I would be You’re good with that? If if you want to be the best, you want to win a Super Bowl that they can’t pay back 60 million to win a Super Bowl. Listen to this. Trade Dak right now while he’s playing the best he’s ever played. Get one or two first round picks for him. Pair it with the other two extra first round picks you have and rebuild this defense. Bring in M. Jones with a great coordinator, you’ll have a Super Bowl in two years, guaranteed. I’ve watched it for 50 years. Thank you. Now, I appreciate the call, Robbie. I mean, the the Brady thing I’ve explained before that was kind of a fallacy. Like, I get it on the salary cap. It was I think it was kind of similar to behind the scenes, which you’re getting the Clippers accused with Kawawaii for now. He was getting extra money that stuff on the Don. Yeah. I mean, there was some stuff going on, I believe, with with Robert Craft and, you know, on that, you know, my man my man would not sell me a used car if it if it if it if it cut if it cut into his profits. It’s it’s one of those where No, you’re asking a guy to to take they’re averaging 29.6 points per game on offense. Trey Hendrickson signed a one-year deal for what, $30 million, and he just got carded off with a back. Yeah. you know, then all of a sudden you were talking about maybe training for that, a guy playing and then now that’s now that’s hanging on him. No, these guys deserve every penny that they get. Nobody’s No, nobody should have to take a pay cut for anything. And in life or in if hey, if your value is what your value is, get every bit of it you can. You got to get what you’re worth. You got to absolutely get what you’re worth. I’m not going to I’m not not going to knock Dak uh for the 60, but I do think he made a lot of good points in terms of the last 30 years of of what’s been going on. Um but I that’s not going to change as we’ve talked about before. I don’t you know it’s it’s kind of it’s a it’s a big topic and it might be kind of, you know, the the elephant in the room, but unfortunately that’s not going to change. Let’s go to Wade in Lewisville. Wade, what’s up? Doing good. Hey, how are y’all doing? Excellent. Been better. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, uh, you know, I mean, Brian, you were in the, you know, you were in the organization for years. Like my whole thing is, yes, they’ve been drafting bad lately. Sure. They’ve had some teams to win to to to contend for a Super Bowl. The 07 Cowboys were loaded. They they could have won it. The players didn’t get the job done or make the plays. 2014, 2016, the three 12 and five teams, I think they were good enough. My whole thing is when we have had those teams, I feel that they, you know, especially the last 15 years, they’re frugal in free agency. I don’t understand why. I’ve heard Stephven Jones say if you got to go out in free agency and spend money on good players, you’re going to have to overpay. But what does it matter though, Stephen, if it gets you a Super Bowl title? That’s what the Eagles did. That’s what the Buccaneers did. That’s what the Rams did to to go over the top. They spent the money and then they rebuilt again and now they’re making another run at it. Why can’t y’all do that? Why can’t you go out in free agency and get players to put us over the top instead of just drafting and relying on the draft when your drafts lately, like y’all pointed out, have been terrible. Do would you like I just don’t understand. Would do you are you okay with them resigning their draft picks? The CD Lambs, the Tyler Smiths, those guys. Are you okay with that? Yeah, I’m fine. I’m fine with that. Okay, then that’s going to take us money. We’ve got some of the highest paid. I mean, we they they walked away. They they they walked away from from uh from that defensive end up in Green Bay. They were, you know, they didn’t want to pay him 40 something million dollars. You know, might be the best thing they’ve done. They got the draft picks, but overall, I mean, they they look at signing their own as like free agency. We we we like having CD Lamb around here, right? Would you rather some Would you rather uh would you rather Debo Samuel or CD Lamb? I’ I’ I’d rather have CD Lamb I mean they all Demarus Werew walk in 2014 and how would a Demarus Warehouse 2014 fine. No, you’re absolutely right. Doug has said but you know Micah Parsons would you pay Micah Parsons $40 million a year? Uh would I pay No, I wouldn’t have paid I wouldn’t have paid him 47. That’s for sure. Okay. Yeah. So, so that’s what I’m saying. You know, it’s it’s one thing they look at they look at free agency as signing their own and I and I’m the point I’m trying to make is, you know, like say there’s players that have been out there in free agency that that they could have signed, but I would have rather had CD Lamb or I would have rather had signed Demario Davis years ago and he’d have still been your starting linebacker of all the other linebackers you drafted and who are out the NFL. I don’t know how that I I don’t know how that one went down. I don’t know. I you might be right. You might be right. Yeah, I think he want I think he wanted to stay in in New Orleans there. But I I do think it’s it is an interesting point with re like they might the overpay thing. I think Stephen’s right. You do typically if you’re going to sign players at the very beginning of free agency, you overplay for those guys. Overpay. But with the way these corners are playing, I mean, have they overpaid for some of the guys? Oh, they absolutely. Yeah. That’s that that Yeah. And and if you is there a corner is there a corner that you would have paid and Yeah. And and I I I totally if you would have told me like I wouldn’t have done digs and I probably wouldn’t have done bland. I and it stinks because we get on them all the time for waiting to the last minute and they actually got ahead and they did the bland deal early. Blanch is not playing good football. They did digs early too. They’re not they’re just not playing well. No. No. But I I do I mean yeah when the team the team building conversation you would take Tyler Smith, right? I mean you would Yeah. I think that Yes. I I’m all about I agree ultimately with the the philosophy of draft and develop, but I do think their biggest problem at times has been falling in love with their own players a little too much. The problem is when they sign their players and they they don’t play well, right? They haven’t problem haven’t got return on investment. It’s not falling in love. It’s they sign their own guys and those guys don’t play well. Yeah. But also not moving on from certain guys because they were yours. you drafted them and just not admitting this player wasn’t good. And I do think when you look at the team that has won the Super Bowl in your own division, that’s the one big difference that I would point to between these two organizations is the Eagles are not shy about saying, “Yeah, we drafted Jaylen Rager. This guy stinks.” They did move on from Parsons. They moved on from Micah, but you and I both know move they they their plan was not to move on from Micah. They were going to pay Micah Parsons and then things went south which ended up I think being a good thing in the long run but that really wasn’t their plan. But Zach, you said you told me you wouldn’t have you wouldn’t give him 45. I wouldn’t have done that. But I’m I their plan. They were going to pay him. They were going to give they thought they had a deal. And if Micah had have gone ahead and said, “Jerry, you’re right. We got this deal done and they didn’t end up having all this back and forth with the agent and all that.” Micah Parsons would be here. That did end up happening. And so then there’s bad blood and he ends up getting traded. But I don’t think their plan was ever were moving on for Micah. At least Jerry’s plan was never we’re moving on for Micah. There were others that I do think would have liked to have done that. Are you okay with what they gave up to get Pickkins? Yeah. Yeah. Me too. Absolutely. See, that’s like to me, you go get a play. I loved that move and they deserve credit for that. $3 million. They deserve credit for that. Yeah. 100% they do. That’s to me like free agency, right? A little bit. I mean, you’re going to use a pig to go Yeah. to go get a And I’ve liked the move. So, trading for Gilmore and Cooks a couple years ago, I love that. I thought that was great. But also, that would be one thing where I’d love to, you know, know is it do you have to have the deal to where you feel like it’s on your terms? Is it worth it sometimes? Maybe if you feel at the moment to overplay in a trade. Those are kind of the behindthe-scenes stuff that we don’t have the information on. But in years that say the caller was talking about an over-the-top top type of move, maybe they weren’t comfort well. We’re not we’re not comfortable with that. I just if if somebody could give me and and somebody will and you’re looking at the text. Give me an over-the-top free agent move. Yeah. That you have liked to have seen them done. I I’m just I’m I’m just No, I’d love to, too, because I’m I can’t pull one off the top of my head right now. It might not have made the difference. Give me Give me Give me somebody that that that was in free agency last year that would have been an over-the-top move that would made a difference for you this year. I I’m just curious. I’m not trying to be a smartass. No, I’m just I just I just want somebody to tell me that. All right, we’ll uh we’ll get back. Although I know we got a lot of people still waiting to get to if we’re not able to get to you by the time we’re off the air at 6. [Music] [Music] athleticism snatched the ball away from the Carolina defender Roseboom the linebacker and took it 31 yds down the left sideline. George Pickkins is our player of the game, catching a career-high nine catches for 168 yards and a touchdown. His 168 receiving yards were the second most in his career. He has a receiving touchdown in five straight games. And his six receiving touchdowns in 2025 are tied for the most by a Cowboy player through the first six games of a season since the NFL merger. Dez Bryant also had six touchdowns through the first six games in 2013. Pretty incredible. Uh and the expectation is hopefully maybe you could get CD Lamb back uh to pair with George Pickkins again starting next week. Cowboys return home, host the Washington Commanders who will be playing tomorrow night. Uh so a short week and a travel week for Washington. But let’s hear what George Pickins had to say following this 30 to 27 loss in Carolina. Was there anything that they were uh showing early on to let you guys pretty much know that you can have a big game that I had as uh no not really but we kind of knew especially what type of coverages they going to play like the cut guys like the cut overs lead post hanging uh sometimes not cut the overs you see what I mean so they a match team zone match team uh we kind of knew that we just wanted to execute and what do you feel like the the message in the modern race to be this week you guys are two three and one you got the commanders is coming up with coming at home. Just what these three message uh definitely finishing. Uh I know I always talk about resiliency, but that’s part of finishing. So, uh definitely finishing. Yeah. How much more of a a spark will it be? Obviously, it’s going to be a spark, but how much more of a spark will the BFCD can can get back on the field next week, especially considering that you and Dak have now found complete catch? Yeah. Uh it’s definitely going to be an increase, you know what I mean? uh with him having back coming back with a playmaking ability that he got uh is definitely going to help us let alone possibly Turb and a lot of other guys too. What’s the frustration like pretty quiet? Oh yeah. Yeah. Uh definitely you know after a loss you never want to lose. Uh especially a game I feel like we know personally that we had uh you just got to finish drives. Uh so definitely like I said disheartening I’ll probably say. So many of these games have been shootouts. Is there extra pressure on the offense that you guys place on yourselves when it seems like you got to score almost every sing? Uh I wouldn’t say like extra pressure. I’ll just say uh more finish and more resiliency cuz it doesn’t matter if we was out there by ourel. We definitely want to put up as most points as we can uh and try to help the defense. That’s how you help the defense. So uh definitely doing our part first. What’s the feeling like the last six minutes you guys had this ball back on offense? Washington Carolina game. Yeah. Yeah. That was another thing. Uh kind of like what he asked me about their defense, about the offense. We kind of knew that they were going to try to give Rico the ball like 40 30 times. You know what I mean? Uh and they did that the whole game, let alone like you said, the fourth where they just wasted the time. There’s George Pickkins after a 30 to 27 Cowboys loss. Patrick Walker asked that question about the defense and he started talking about cut match zones and stuff like that. I guarantee everybody’s head was just like, “What the hell is he talking about?” Players could do that to you, man. You ask a question and they give you an answer. You know, you got to be be able to follow up, but then Packer Patrick had to pivot to another thing. But yeah, they knew the coverage. They knew that they they were going to get that they were going to get a lot they got a lot more man coverage in this game. And they even treated they even treated Ferguson like he was a wide receiver on some of those things. JC Horn on him. JC Horn on him a couple of times. Yep. Sure did. Some of the texts we got back in terms of free agent signings that maybe the Cowboys could have made. I tell you what, Bobby Wagner what, two, three years ago. Bobby Wagner a couple years ago probably uh the most texted in uh Trayvon Merig who I guess this off season if they wanted. They they’ve liked their safeties though. I mean maybe they’re higher on their safeties than they should be. They gave money to Bell and to Wilson, right? They did. And they barely play Bell. Yeah. Yeah. Strange. Yeah. that that that’s a problem right there. But yeah, Bobby Wagner’s signing was Dan Quinn. Why couldn’t Dan Quinn get that one done? He didn’t want to pay. He was asking for too much money. That’s the report was. Uh but Josh Jacobs, Dererick Henry, those were a couple others. Derrick Henry’s running back maybe resigning Jordan Lewis. U Jordan Lewis when that was they were never going to do that was 10 mill that was Jordan Lewis never got the respect he absolutely deserved here. No, I’ll raise my hand and say I’m guilty of that, too. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah. Uh, but those were a couple that got texted and 8778811053 the number. Call the number. Text. All right. Uh, very quickly, we’ll take our final call of the night. The rest of you can wait on hold. They’ll get you in the postgame show with Chris Arnold and Fred Davis. Let’s go to Greg and Denton who’s been waiting patiently. Greg, what’s up? I um, you know, I heard earlier Brian saying that this defense just wasn’t good enough to win. And, you know, I agree with you. Um, but I think that, you know, if you kind of look at things for next year, there’s a there’s a very good chance to rebuild the defense in a hurry because you’re going to have Overshon come back. You’re going to have Siobhan Rell come back and you got, you know, three picks in the first two rounds next year. And, you know, if you do things right, this could be a pretty good defense next year. She hit on him. It’s not doing anything for you right now, but but no, but but no, I see your point. I mean, hey, I’m not trying to slam you on this one, but yeah, this is uh Yeah, we don’t know. We I mean I listen in two weeks I’m going to start working on the college draft. In another another six weeks I’ll be able to tell you who what defensive players you might be talking about. Yeah. Yeah. Appreciate the calls and texts. 8778811053. Uh Cowboys at home. They’ll be taking on Washington. Big game for Washington coming up especially after you had Philadelphia lose to the Giants. So this division tightening a little bit as the Eagles have lost backtoback. They’re at 4-2. The Giants in last place at 2-4. Cowboys sitting at 23-1. The Commanders will be hosting the Bears on Monday Night Football. It’s a double header tomorrow night. Bills, Falcons, Bears, Commanders. So, if the Commanders can win, that’s a rematch of last year’s Hail Mary. Tyreek Steven and that might have been the end of the Yeah. And uh Commanders could be 4-2 coming to play the Cowboys. They could be three and three. Still a big game next week. And maybe the Cowboys are able to get some reinforcements back. Sound like Christie was optimistic about Tyler Booker. Yeah, maybe CD Lamb. Yeah. So, we’ll see uh and monitor the injury front throughout the week. A couple of scoreboard updates for you going on right now. 20-10 Raiders looking for their second win of the year over the Titans. Ashton Genty’s got 75 yards in a touchdown. Packers just scored. They’re up 24-10 with under five to play at home against Cincinnati. Jordan Love 18 of 24 for 228 and a touchdown. Jamar Chase has eight for 69 and Joe Flacco’s debut with the Bengals. Josh Jacobs with 85 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Bucks leading the ners. Bucks just missed a field goal though. Yeah. So, San Francisco with the chance. 27 to9 uh is the score there. And then Sunday Night Football will be the Lions and the Chiefs. Uh and then earlier today in uh London 13 to1 11 Broncos beating the Jets. Jets now 0 and6 still ugly ugly game there. Colts improved to 5- one over the Cardinals 31-27. Chargers over the Dolphins 29 to 27. Steelers beat the Browns 23 to9 and the Patriots over the Saints 25-9. Big thank you to Payton Russell as always, Kevin Walker, Ross Leinsky, Tim Collins, Gavin Spittle. Shout to Douglas Bareric. [Music] Thank you for [Music] And we talked we we we had a couple different people on from the Carolina uh from Carolina radio this week. One of them being Chris Mlan, who he’s been there, he’s been a Carolina Charlotte mainstay in in the sports radio scene for 21 years now. And he said, “Look, I I don’t know what to expect out of this team tomorrow.” Right? We had me and Blake had him on yesterday and that was the one thing I said, “Well, what is this team exactly?” You know, talk about Carolina. Talk about Carolina, right? Because it’s like, you know, they only had five sacks coming into the season, right? Or coming into in coming into yesterday or today’s game, right? So, you had a team that I mean, outside of Ted McMillan, there’s nobody on that wide receiving group that scares you. I mean, hell, you only got one other dude with 100 yards receiving on the season outside of Ted. This is where I give credit to their offense coordinator out play calling Shotty. I love the way Shott has been calling plays this year. He got he got smoked. And the reason I say this is because they most people knowing the Cowboys defense Cowboys defense gives up bombs to any look Russell West Russell Wilson got 140 450 yards. Yeah. Just bomb him, right? Bomb him. Well, their quarterback can’t do that. It’s kind of like it’s it’s kind of like uh uh Fields. Fields can’t throw the ball. He never threw a 200 yard game. No. So So here’s the deal. Or 300 yard game. So here’s the deal. So here’s the deal. Bryce can’t throw the ball. So, with that being said, they say, “You know what? Rico said that he just came off for 200 yards. We’re gonna pound the ball until Rico can’t.” Yeah. And Rico never did stop pounding the ball. And so, with that being said, the the solution for that game, not for this season, for the game today was, okay, Rico is a problem because our re run defense sucks. We’ve got to save our defense by ball controlling the offense. So even though you weren’t giving Javvante Javvante Williams the ball that often and when you did he wasn’t going nowhere, you had to figure out something. But you you said this earlier in this one part of our conversation, there is no reason and brought us talking about this. There was no reason for them not to force feed George Pickkins. No, it was happening. George Pickkins nine c excuse me, nine catches, 168 yards and a touchdown today. Um and and really they they had no answer. Nope. Right. I mean Charlotte Charlotte Carolina could not stop. I mean whether it was JC Horn, whether it was the what? Michael, what was it? Michael Jackson. Not Michael Jackson. Michael Johnson, whatever it was. Michael Jackson. Was it Michael Jackson? Oh, was that his name? Shan was talking about that. He said not to be confused with Mike Jackson who the Cowboys had years ago. Not to be confused with the King of Pop. It just see where my head goes. It just it it because I’ll tell you what, you know, Fenoi had a an okay game, right? I mean, he wasn’t the game breaker, but he didn’t need to be today. Okay? He didn’t need to be. You know, you had enough there to where all right, look, George Pickkins took the game over by himself. All right? And this was with zero to little running game today. Yep. All right. And yet, you know, for whatever reason, you decided you were going to force feed the ball to Javvante Williams two plays in a row. And I just felt like, you know, look, they and and yeah, at that point in the game, it ain’t working, so don’t do it. It’s not working. And and and here’s the other thing, too, right? Like Jake Ferguson’s been a machine pass catching machine all season long. All right. And again, I’m not saying that you don’t go to Javvante Williams, but again, I’d say you go in that hot hand. Javvante was not your hot hand today because Carolina had already decided. They decided we’re we’re Hey, we’re shutting him down. And that’s exactly what they did. Hell, uh, I’ll tell you what, let’s look at I mean, reception wise, what do you have? One, two catches on the whole game. You know what I’m saying? So, it just wasn’t it wasn’t happening. And again, you said it best. They decided two things. I said it first and then you said this second part. They decided we’re going to feed Rico and they said we’re going to shut down Javvante. It’s just that simple. By the way, that’s what this game boiled down to. Those two decisions. And here here’s here’s what I don’t understand. And and maybe it was a situation where, you know, you just take what the defense gives you. But at the same time, I mean, again, this is why, you know, we we’ve lauded this offense so far, but they kind like you said, I think they kind of overthought themselves a little bit today or got a little too cute. Damonte Williams had eight targets today. make no sense. All right. Especially Especially against a defense that feeds wide receiver. I mean that feeds tight ends. I told I told uh I told Jake Ferguson earlier in the week in the locker room. I said, “Jake, you going to eat.” Yeah. He got him a touchdown, but I thought he was going to get more targets. Well, he only got three. I know. That’s what I’m saying. He had three targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. Yep. All right. I mean that that and that’s you know that uh let’s see. Ryan Fenoy now he had six targets. He had three catches for 30 yards today. And again, nothing crazy. His longest only went for 13. Uh, everybody’s favorite Jaylen Tolbert. One target for one uh, one target, one catch, eight yards. Stop. We caught that. I I I think it’s Look, when CD, Mingo, and Turpin get back. I mean, I I I think it’s time to go ahead and and and go ahead and put Tolbert on the block. Now, we’re said they should have did it last year when he had all those touchdowns. Oh, I don’t look I I don’t disagree at all. And this is let me tell you what the problem for Tolbert is. He came here according to Steven Jones to replace Amari Cooper. He is not Amari Cooper. Was never Amari Cooper. So therefore, as you see him, he’s not going to be that guy. He’s he he’s not even a slot guy. But the problem But the problem is Steven said, “Amari, we don’t need you. You cost too much. We’re going to draft one.” Which they did. And it was Jaylen and then they oversold him. I mean, and and I’ll say this about Jaylen Tolbert, like last year, he did have some flashes and then, you know, just when you think his season’s a disaster, which, you know, for all intents and purposes, it has been, he’s got the the little toetapper right there uh against Green Bay. All right. That you’re like, “Oh, but but but those those are so few and far between. It’s like, look, you now have I mean, he brought you nothing today.” In fact, he actually uh I guess what was it? I remember texting Blake and and and Jake earlier when uh Dak went ahead one of the first possessions of the game, right? And they’re driving and they’re, you know, third down and goal or whatever and Dak escapes out of the sack. He’s running to his left and he tries to throw it to Fenoy. Fenoy damn near runs into Jaylen Tolbert who brings his guy over there. I mean, why I tell you what, one thing you notice about Jaylen Tolbert is why is it that anytime there’s a big play or somebody makes a a gaff, he’s somewhere in the vicinity? I mean, damn near every time when something big needs to happen and it’s it’s and it doesn’t go the Cowboys way, I promise you, Jaylen Tolbert is in the vicinity somewhere. You know what I’m saying? Like, and I get it right now. It’s a war of attrition with this Cowboy wide receiving group. But, but Lud Ludicrous wrote a song about that. Move. Get out the way. And he doesn’t get out the way. I’m telling you right now, when Mingo comes back, when Turpin comes back, when CD comes back, there is no reason for Jaylen Tolbert to be on this football team. All right? I mean, unless, god forbid, everybody gets hurt, but there is no reason for Jaylen, he brings you nothing to this offense. I mean, outside of the pick play that, you know, God forbid, I mean, thankfully they they were able to convert that, but I just I don’t want to see Jaylen Tobert on the football field anymore. I cannot disagree. You know what I’m saying? And that’s just I’ve been mad at him since he lined up in the middle of the not we offsides we call it the neutral zone in Green Bay in the overtime game where McCarthy could have came back and won the game in Green Bay. I was I was I He is not Amari. Look, he’s he’s not a Mari Cooper. He’s had a good He’s had a good run here, but I think it’s time I mean, look, he’s a free agent after this year. You’re not resigning him. All right, just get a seventh round pick and a bag of footballs and call it a day. All right, coming up next, we got a full board of phone calls. 877-8811053 877 Don’t hang up. 1053. We got Roger, we got Wayla, we got Chris, we got Parker. Uh let’s hear what you guys have to say. We haven’t even really touched too much on the defense. We talked a little bit about the offense. Uh so we want to hear from you guys. We’ll do a little scoreboard. What’s going on in the National Football League right now? Uh Tampa Bay is putting the finishing touches on the San Francisco 49ers, who by the way, a guy that uh the Cowboys were interested in during the off season. They ended up going to or no, I’m sorry. No, you know what? I’m thinking of somebody else. I’m thinking of the guy that went to the um I’m thinking of the guy that went to the uh Denver Broncos. It’ll come to me here in just a second. But anyway, big big time injury for the 49ers. This team I I mean I’ll tell you what, have you ever seen a team more ravaged by injury than the San Francisco 49ers? It just feels like the last three or four years this team every year. It just seems like somebody keeps getting hurt on this football team. So, we’ve had a full uh just a full docket of NFL games today. some surprises, some incredible performances, but of course your Dallas Cowboys spit the bit. Let’s go out to uh All right, let’s let’s start uh taking some of these calls and see uh let’s get the temperature of Cowboy Nation. Let’s go out to uh Roger in Dallas. What’s up, Roger in Dallas? Hey, Roger. Hey, Freddy D. I’m a vampire and CA. My dad has known about you since he worked at that other radio sports station in BFW. Got you down. Tell him I appreciate him. What’s on your mind? I think this is a Oh, I’m sorry. Um I I think this is a multi-layered issue here. Um and I don’t know if that’s easy to say, but I think it’s an Ebra flu deal. Those dudes just look like they have no clue what they’re doing or who cover. Um it’s a poor scouting issue as well because when the Eagles draft players, they actually plug the holes and they become all pros either that year or the year after. And I think Jerry’s contract decisions are finally starting to creep in because maybe, you know, we could have kept a Jordan Lewis instead of relying on, you know, Kyrie Elon and maybe he maybe I signed on thinking Micah would be available. But and for those who want to say what has Micah done? Well, he didn’t have like a full training. So, I just kind of want to be fair to him a little bit. Um, I just I love both you guys. I just kind of want to know what you think. Thank you. Thanks for the call. Appreciate you, Roger. in Dallas. Um, I mean, look, I I think [Music] it’s we’re six weeks into this season and this defense the your your your defensive ends. I mean, what did Javon Clowney do today outside of miss a tackle? uh he always provides pressure, you know, they say and and and again talk listening to Woolchuk and Bris who, you know, when it comes to talking all things Dallas Cowboys and and their insight and analysis, I mean, I I’ll take them over anybody. But one of the things that they talked about today, too, and and has been a discussion point for this Dallas Cowboy team since I’ve been here for the last year and a half now, is and I’ve heard both these guys talk about it is, you know, do they do do the Cowboys and and the front office overvalue their own guys? All right. And so that’s of course they do, right? Because I mean and and but at the same time, okay, like OSA played better last year with Mike Zimmer. Okay. Like that like the the OSA we’ve seen this year is not the same OSA we saw a year ago. I was saying this to Willie Bully. This is what I’ve come to the conclusion. This is the third defensive coordinator in three years. Most of this guy, most of these guys are Dan Quinn guys. Okay. Yeah. There was a caller that called a postgame show with uh Willy Bully, Zach Wchuk, and Brian Bratis. I think I can’t remember his name, but he said I think they’re missing Al Harris, who was the secondary coach. And by the way, he is a Dan Quinn guy, right? In fact, he was probably going to with Dan Quinn. And Jerry said, “Wait a minute, we’ll make you the assistant head coach.” Yeah. Not to be the assistant head coach, but for the money, right? you know, just we need you to stay here and help Zimmer, right? Mike Zimmer, who was the second defensive coordinator in the last three years. All right. Zim started off with his own system a little bit and he said, “Wait a minute, these guys are used to this DQ stuff.” Yeah. And so Al Harris helped with the transition and they were mixing and matching and it worked out right to a degree. It wasn’t 100% but it was to a degree. Of course, you had Micah too. And you had Micah, don’t get me wrong. Yeah, Micah. But at the same time, last year they they didn’t go to the playoffs, didn’t have Dak, so it was just a big mess. With that being said, with all of that being said, you bring in Iberlu who’s got his own system and he favors the zone more. Yeah. And everybody said, “Well, you don’t have Micah and then Bland was got injured to the ankle after the first game and then Diggs coming back too soon.” This is what’s missing. It’s not just Micah being missing. You don’t have Tank Lawrence providing that pressure. You might say he don’t have all these sacks. Tank Lawrence was so damn solid, they didn’t even go to his side of the of the field. And you didn’t have I was saying this to you, you’d have Jordan Lewis. Jordan Lewis was your slot uh corner. Yeah. And he was the dog in the secondary to set the table. I could go on the down the list of the guys who were the identity of that team because I’d be in that locker room after the games. I’d be in the locker room during the week and I saw who was talking the talk talking the trash and who were the leaders on that team right and defensively most of them walked when they didn’t bring back Quinn because they were free and Stephen make no moves and I’m even talking about just this past year with Tank and and and Jordan Lewis that was this year the year before there were guys on that defense that Stephen Jones said yeah we just replace him remember what Jerry said I’m all in he wasn’t all in like he’s going to pay whatever it cost to get the deal done he was all into whatever Stephen said. All right, Stephen, since you won’t let me fire Mike Mike McCarthy. Yeah, this better work. I’m all in. I’m I’mma back you on this stuff. But I mean, they they lost guys seriously on that on that defense uh from a couple of years ago. They just walked away. There were tone setters. I could go I’m looking for some names off the top of my head. Uh I know Dorren Armstrong was one of the guys you lost. He was one of them. Some of them went to Washington with DQ. I mean, Fowler came back, but there’s other guys that just left or they decided they were they were done with him and they washed. It’s making me mad cuz I’m like, I’m looking for the names. Um, well, while you’re doing that, I tell you what, you do that and let’s go we’ll reach out to uh let’s go out to Wayne or excuse me, Wayin in Little Elm. What’s up, Wayan and Little Elm? I’m a tool, longtime listener, long time frustrated Cowboy fan. How are you guys doing? Good. Same boat. Hey, I got a lot of things to say, but I’m gonna talk. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Can I get before you start? I I got those names real quick because I was talking about that and I want you to listen to these names and then you go ahead with your conversation. I don’t want to lose this. You had Okay. You had Don Bland, Donovan Wilson, who’s still here. Stefon Gilmore, Jayron Curse. Jon Kur had the green dot on his helmet. Uh Malik Hooker still there, Trev Trayvon Diggs, Bobby Buddy Buddy Johnson, CJ Goodwin still, Carl Davis. I could go on and on and on. uh uh Chanty Goolson, Deone Clark. These are some of the guys that were defensive guys that made a difference, man. Dorren Armstrong, like you I could go on and on. There was some chemistry there and that’s why they don’t have an identity right now. I’m sorry. Back to you. Well, that and terrible drafting. Yeah. Back Yeah, continue. Okay. So, got that off my chest. Me, as bad as they look, you have to consider everything. There’s nothing off the table for me. I say every year for the last four to five years especially, I don’t care who the defensive coordinator is. I don’t care who the head coach is. The Cowboys have a scheme that they are still using from the days of Jimmy Johnson, which worked back then. Smaller defenders, smaller uh uh guys that flow to the ball. They and that’s important when you’re team tackling to make up for your lack of size. They’re still using that scheme. That’s that scheme is old. It’s gone. Which is why they can’t stop the run this year. The wheels fell off. And I’m gonna say this, when they get more physical on the defensive line, the f i.e. the front seven on defense, of course, and the offensive line, that’s when you will see a change. This little quick spinly arm defensive end 260 250 that can run around the edge that does nothing. That does nothing except on passing downs and they can’t stop anything guys. So it’s not going to change until they get physical and they’re nowhere near that. They are a flag football team that kind of tackles. I’m done. Thanks for the call. I mean I appreciate you called him a flag football. He absolutely did. He smacked him in the middle. I mean, know look, they got out physical today. Yeah. And you know what? Shotties always talk about the physicality. He sure does. He’s teaching that in training camp. It was not uh it was not the case today. Not the not the case at all. Right. I mean, it was a and and and the thing was and and again, we talked about this in the first segment. You knew what re I mean, they made it clear Rico Dattle was going to be the bellcow today. Okay. And oh by the way, that’s a guy you know like you he was in your system. He got thousand yards last year football team was here for five years. Okay, you know his nuances. You know his tricks. You know everything. You’ve seen it in practice every week. You saw it in training camp every practice. Theoretically the Cowboys should know Rico Dattle better than the Carolina Panthers do. Exactly. And he still put up 250 on you today. You know why? because they’re overthinking the Eva Flu system. Here’s part of the problem. I I was saying this earlier. Eva Flu has got to match his system. He’s got to match to the talent to the system. He doesn’t have the talent to run his system. So, he’s got to go back to what they know. Well, I got to say it in different words this time. I got to say it like this. He’s got to match it down or dumb it down to their mentality because apparently they can’t do it any other way. Otherwise, they’re overthinking. They’re overthinking being in the zone. They’re overthinking, not doing stuff that they doing stuff different than what they used to do. Yeah. So, you have to dumb it down. Flu. I’m just saying. Well, and them are you. I I I think we’re getting to this point with this football team right now. And you know, again, last week we tried to be positive. We tried to be like, “All right, look, you beat the Jets, but let’s not get too carried away because it is the Jets. And if you watch that game this morning, they might be the worst team in football.” In fact, I think they might be the worst team in football. I mean, that team looks so out of whack and I’m not even convinced Aaron Glenn knows the hell he’s doing right now. Justin Fields is awful. Mhm. And there’s a lot and they got talent on that football team. That’s the crazy thing about it. Like the Jets have some legit talent on that football team. I just think from the ownership down to the front office to the coaching staff, they are totally in over their heads. Mhm. All that being said, I don’t you’re right now with for as good of a team as they’ve been drafting from like what 2017 to 2020, 2021. I mean, we’re at the point now where like you are you have done such an abysmal job of creating any kind of playmakers andor providing solid depth on this football team. And then you’re trying to, and you know this, and people at home know this, you can’t build your team through free agency. You can’t do it just through the draft either. I mean, I was saying this to Well, but here’s the thing. Just real quick, I’m not saying you can do it, but but you have to build that foundation through the draft. Okay. You do, but you got to augment it. Which which I get, but but you you you’re doing neither. So, let me explain something. You have no foundation or you’re not augmenting. Willy Willy Bully was talking about this about an hour ago. the Cowboys of their last 25 picks, they don’t have 15 of them working. That that’s that’s a staggering number. And so we talked about it because Stephen always like to say we’re a draft and development team. And I have said for the last two years in a row. You cannot assume every draft pick will be a hit and you cannot assume every draft pick will hit the ground running. So, what you’re watching, you keep saying you’re going to the Super Bowl or the playoffs, but you’re watching on the job training, and you keep changing up the defensive coordinator and the strategy every freaking year. Well, there’s that. And then, oh, by the way, you’ve decided that you’re going to wait until the very last second to sign guys, and you’re costing yourself millions of dollars. So, that ruins your salary cap. Exactly. because he claims he can’t keep the ones that he’s got because he’s tied them up into certain players. Well, that’s your own fault, Stephen, because because you’re waiting till the last minute instead of getting the deal done early. Yeah. And and and living with result in other words, this is what drives me crazy. Your perfect example of how to build a team is in your freaking same division. Howie does it with Philadelphia every year. Can’t stand the Eagles, but Howie knows how to build a team. Coach sucks as far as I’m concerned, but they win at the same and to show you how much they win. Yeah, they’re struggling. The last two games they’ve lost two in a row. Guess what? In the meantime, they’ve won 20 of their last 22, including the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Super Bowl two out of the last three years. So, don’t let me start about building teams and draft and develop. Look at the commanders. I’m going to say this as well. They let these backup guys walk or guys that were the I said the chemistry on the defense. Total texted in. He says, “Hey, Chris, some of those same guys got blown off the field in that Green Bay Packer playoff game two years ago.” Let me say let me explain this to a lot of people because the DQ admitted this. Dan Quinn going into that playoff game because the Cowboys were overwhelming favorites. They won 16 home games in a row. Green Bay had to win out in December just to make the tournament. They were the seven seed, right? Yes, they were nine and seven to get to the playoffs, right? And so they were being served up to the Cowboys and everybody knew the deal. Here’s what Dan Quinn was looking at. He overthought this. He had a problem with Kyle Shanahan disciples. I think their record was a goddy nine and one against him. Anybody that was a disciple of Kyle Shanahan, they got the recipe. So Dan Quinn, guess what he did? He changed up the entire defensive scheme and assignment during that week. So you can’t do that. And those guys were in the wrong spot and didn’t know what to You can’t do that. You can’t do that. Why? You you tire you can’t you can’t you dance with who br you. That’s right. You know, like you you did something for 17 weeks then decided the week of like you and again you’re right. you you once you start and again I think thatame and I’m going tell you right now and I love Dan Quinn and I’ll tell you what I think that’s a big part of what the problem is right now with this defense is you’ve got Eberfloose overthinking you got the the players overthinking and look we talked to we we talked to uh Darren Woodson last week and you know we talked to Nate Newton a couple weeks before that and you know Kenny Gant and all these other former players and look to a man they all say it’s the personnel. Yeah, right. I their their their bottom line is it’s the personnel and look while I don’t disagree with any of that because again you you you watch this defensive line again Kenny Clark I think is is is starting to I’m not going to say he’s wearing out his welcome but I mean he’s getting worn down it looks like as far as just overwhelmed with because they know too like look take him out of the scene and we’re not really worried because guess what them linebackers ain’t hurting anybody okay Trayvon Diggs ain’t tackling anybody Don Bland hasn’t done squat since he signed that fat contract. I’m I’m telling you right now, I don’t care what anybody says. You cannot on fourth and four, and I don’t care what Dez Bryant said. I don’t care, oh, the linebacker was supposed to do it. You know what? You’re the fifth highest paid quarterback in football. All right. Make a play. Period. Like what? Like what what are we doing? He’s eight yards off the line, which is And you had I gave the guy too much of a cushion. He’s in the slot. What does Renfro do? Well, see, here’s the deal. He’s in the slot. Br said it best. If you’re on him, even if you’re not supposed to be on him and you just sink, you slip it into a man, you’re like, “Wait a minute. I’m not going to let this guy just run free.” You’re on him, at least the quarterback has to throw over you at the very least. And and and oh, by the way, and the quarterback can’t throw like what what I mean, look, what does Hunter Reenfro do? He’s a slot guy, man. He goes he he goes in, he goes out. That’s what he does. Well, this goes back to what you said best. The problem with the Cowboys, the depth they could have kept was because Stephen Jones and Jerry Jones way too late to sign the superstars and they say, “We don’t have enough money.” They could have had Jordan Lewis. You just made a deal. All you had to do was give him his money. And you could have done it before. I mean, now look, you know what Jordan Lewis is doing right now? He’s down in Jacksonville with uh Travis Hunter and they’re making plays and lead the NF that defense leads the NFL in interceptions and picks and he’s the dog of that secondary. He could have stayed here happily. Don’t let me get mad if if you’d have kept him, especially Especially if you didn’t Well, then I was going to say you could have waited on Bland and then two, you wouldn’t have Kyrie Elim who, oh, by the way, had a huge penalty today on a third down that would have forced a would have forced a punt. And so, it’s just little things like that with this defense. You swap, to your point, you swapped out Jordan Lewis, who’s tried and true in this system, okay, and is a solid slot in the NFL, too. That’s a leader getting damn right about that cuz I tell you what, that’s the one thing I respect about Jordan Lewis is, especially last year with that when that we all know was a rough season. Tell you what, Jordan Lewis was always by his locker ready to talk after every game. Every game and I respect I respect how and his teammates did too. But back to what you were saying about this defense and the identity and and all these different things or lack thereof. the lack thereof it just it’s maddening that they have to be in this place and part of like Stephen he tries to do this hand game slide slide of hand game remember they wouldn’t draft or they wouldn’t sign anybody the first week of free agency and then he signed all these guys the second week I call him great value if you ever go to Walmart you know I’m talking about so this is what he he said we’ve signed all these former number one picks I’m like oh so you got all these taco talons as if they would not be available in the second week of free agency if They were living up to their pedigree. Why? There’s a reason why Buffalo moved off of Kyrie. You know what I called? I said this during the spring. I said, “Those are camp bodies.” That’s it. I call them camp bodies. So, if you’re playing with camp bodies, what kind of record do you expect? Well, well, what kind of defense do you think you’re looking at? All right. We got a whole Jason Wayne, Chris Parker, and Harrison. Stay stay put. Uh I know you guys are going to let you go. Okay. We’re going to CA and I are going to shut up the next segment. Uh we’ll rattle this thing off uh you know uh rapid fire style. We got a couple folks have been waiting for a little bit now. Let’s go to Chris in North Hills. What’s up, Chris? What’s up, C? Hey guys. Um, you know, anybody that’s acting shocked or surprised by this team’s performance today is just out of their minds. I mean, we knew what this team was before the season started. Let’s pretend for a minute that we had Micah and Overshon. Okay, this team is still a seven to nine win team. So, and I’m a longtime lifetime Cowboys fan. Got you down. This team is just not they’re they’re not going to get it done, especially under the current leadership that we have in place. I mean, I called you guys months ago about shotty is a terrible hire. Even flu is even worse. I mean, this is just not a a cohesive system and we don’t have the talent to get this done. So, anybody shocked or surprised that we got beaten up by the the Panthers today is just beside themselves. I I I don’t know what else to say about that. Appreciate the call. Appreciate it. Chris, this let me say this. Go ahead. Before the season started, then this during the summertime you late August before the season started when we had to do our season predictions. I said the Cowboys could go nine and seven. I didn’t say make the playoffs. Nine and eight. Yeah. 9 and eight. My nine and eight. Yeah. I just saw them possibly be I said this might this 500 level football team. Yes. after the uh the Chicago game, I said, “Oh, hell, they mind I win three games.” Three games. And the reason why is cuz I saw enough. I saw enough. And after the Jets game, you and I are both on the air. We were not saying this team was going to the playoffs. We said, “Guess what? They put together a solid a solid effort.” And in my mind, 24-hour rule, let them celebrate for 24 hours. Let the fans celebrate for 24 hours. enjoy the fact that you put together a good plan, right? And you hope Dak said it best. The next two games should tell us more about ourselves. We’re talking about Carolina and then Washington. Well, Carolina, you spit the bit. No, you absolutely. I didn’t I didn’t expect them to dominate Carolina, but I said, you know what, they have the opportunity to win again. Yeah. No, they absolutely did. I mean, theoretically, if you said the next game was Tampa Bay, I’d say no, they’re not going to beat Tampa. But it was Carolina. It was Carolina. And I mean again, Dak is a better quarterback than Bryce Young. So with that said, with better offensive line, they don’t have a George Pickkins. They don’t have a Jake Ferguson. So you thought, okay, if the defense can just hold him to 20 in my mind to Bryce Bryce is just like Justin Fields. He can’t throw. No, I’m saying they can’t throw. No, he’s No, he’s a better thrower than Justin Fields. Did you watch that game this morning? Yeah, but Justin is the worst. But my point is, no, Bri Bryce put the ball on some people today. Well, today, but he was I mean, look now, now granted that. But here’s And one thing I’ll say about just about about the one thing I’ll say about Bryce Young is this. I didn’t realize until they said it to the broadcast today, of his nine wins, eight have come from behind. I’m telling you, there’s something to be said for that. Look, look, I think the other teams relax. I mean, you think teams want to lose. They don’t want to lose, but you know, you get a lead and you get you relax. I mean, but I will also say this, there is a reason he hadn’t won that many games, and it’s his height. That’s part of it because he’s only so tall. Well, that in Carolina, I mean, look, number one teams or teams, and it starts with their owner, who’s a nutcase. No, he absolutely is. And and look, firing coaches every other month, I think I mean, and let’s put this way, the general manager hasn’t helped him a whole lot either. Okay? I mean, think about it this way. You had Ted McMillan, Xavier Legette, who who they’re still kind of waiting to see what he’s going to do. And then on top of that, the the other reliable pass catcher you had, you traded away before the season started and didn’t really have a backup plan. Now, Ted McMillan, Ted McMillan’s going to be a dog. There’s no question about it. But there’s a lot of question marks on that offense. That said, I look, I don’t think Bryce Young is going to be a quote unquote like baller franchise quarterback by any means, but can I think he have a Sam Darnold like career where he’s he’s a serviceable quarterback and can win you some games? Absolutely. But yeah, is he a little dude? Well, I tell you what, I’d rather have him than Kyler Murray. Really? Absolutely. Um, have I don’t trust Kyler Murray, man. Kyler, I’ll say this about Bryce Young. Whether he should have been drafted number one or not, we can debate that all day. The reality was he was pretty well at Alabama. For what that kid went through in year one where he looked I mean, you had people saying this dude might be the worst number one pick in in NFL history. I’ll tell you right now, I tell you what, he stood tall and made throws today when he had to. Mhm. You know what I’m saying? Like there’s Again, I’m not saying he’s going to be the end all be all, but I do think he will have a serviceable NFL career. Well, again, I thought the Cowboys could win this game because I felt like that but I but that to your point, I agree. And and here here’s here’s where Cal Carolina really just did it to him. They said, “We’re not going to put it in Bryce’s hands. We’re going to put it in. We’re going to put the ball in the gut of Rico Donald cuz the week before he had 200 yards rushing and until he somebody stops him, we’re going to keep what he carries today. Yes. And you couldn’t stop him. And you couldn’t stop. Let’s go out to Parker and Prosper. Parker and Prosper. What’s up, Parker? Say that 10 times fast. PP. Hey guys, how are you doing? Good. What’s happening? Well, listen. Um, I’ve got four points and and I’ll go quickly. The first one is, you know, a really good coach changes their program to fit the players. Ding, ding, ding, ding. Eflu. I I I mean, let’s just be honest. He’s got this zone thing that does not fit our players. I I mean, this is just ridiculous. Second thing real fast is I’ve got to say, um, Jerry, other than Mazy Smith, who’s a total bust, you know, when you look at the linebackers, how many how many plays did the linebackers make today? None. I’d say zero. Not many. Say zero. They line the linebackers are not their strength. I’m going with the zero. The third thing is I am so tired of Stephen Jones saying, “Well, you know, we couldn’t sign this guy because of the cap.” How do all these other teams that are smarter than the Cowboys figure out how to get around the cap? Totally agree. I mean, that that is absurd. And it’s it’s just a terrible I don’t know. It’s just he thinks the fans are dumb and they’ll just blame the players. Players are greedy. That’s what Steven does. He says, “Let me just blame the players right quick.” Meanwhile, I mentioned this earlier, Howie, the Philadelphia Eagles, they do everything. They do what it takes. And all the other teams know that the cap is funible. That’s Jerry’s favorite word. And the cap also rises very largely every year because of that uh streaming rights deal. CA, here’s where the Cowboys always screw up. Look, you you can’t play you can’t pay every single player that deserves their money. You got to let them go. You got to say, and I think Micah, I I know people will, you know, are going to get on me about this, but look, Micah’s not worth $40 million or $47 million. I don’t think people are mad at you for saying that. They’re saying they’re mad at the Cowboys for not signing him earlier if they or trading him since they knew they weren’t going to keep him. And with that in mind, be aware everything you’re saying is correct cuz George Pickkins will not be here at the end of the year cuz he’s he’s a wide receiver number one kind of player and he’s going to get his money and he’s going to wait until the end to decide what he’s going to do. He’s going to walk as he should. As he should. Hey, appreciate the call, man. Parker, great stuff from you, my friend. We’re up against it so we had to let you go. But uh we got Jason, Wayne, Harrison, Mark, and Ruben. Hang tight. We got another call coming through as well. So, look, we got more of your calls coming up. Hour number one of the Specs Tailgate Show is in the books. More of your calls, more uh analysis. Sixth of the year, 34 yds and the Cowboys regain the lead. Hour number two Specs tailgate show. George Pickkins had himself a day. Nine catches, 168 yards, and a tutty today for him, but it was not enough as your Dallas Cowboys fall 30-27. We got a a full board of folks that want to chime in on the loss today. Just recap a few scores from the early portion of the day today and then we’ll get to uh some more here throughout the course of the show. Uh Broncos, they beat the Jets 13-1 in a game that I felt like set back the NFL uh 5 years. I I’m surprised, you know, when we talk about how, you know, this is becoming a global game. Mhm. I don’t understand if I’m if I’m London and Ireland and like I Brazil, how well at least Brazil got a decent game. Like you got the Chargers and the Chiefs. Okay, that was a good one. But if you’re London, you’ve gotten some crap games for about a decade straight. You’ve gotten the Jaguars who have been, you know, they were the home team for years. For years. Okay. And they’ve I mean, you know, they had they’re having a little resurgence right now, but for the last, you know, decade they’ve been crap. uh that game today. Um I mean Justin Fields set football back 10 years. Uh Bo Nicks and that offense, I mean for as much as Shawn Peyton’s a a a innovative offensive guy and for as good as Bo Knicks looked last year, they looked quite the opposite today. So anyway, bottom line is Broncos go to 4-2. They win 13-11. Jets are 0 and6 and uh they’ve got problems. And how Justin Fields is still the quarterback there is anybody’s guess. Uh the Colts, they continue their resurgence. They’re they won 31-27 over the Cardinals today. And what was a surprisingly good game, uh, the affforementioned Chargers, they beat the Dolphins today 29-27. Then Tua went scorched earth on all of his teammates afterwards. Uh, the Patriots, they won 2519 over a scrappy Saints team. Might be the best one to five team in the history of the National Football League. By the way, you know what’s wrong with Philadelphia? Kell Moore. Kell Moore. Well, and hey, look, I I said this earlier this week with Blake. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when you look at the two years in the last four years, right, since they since the Eagles have been on this run, the two years they went to a Super Bowl, you had Shane Stiken and Kell Moore as offensive coordinator. All right. And guess what? Both guys have proven to be pretty decent head coaches. Now, I get it. It’s still early in New Orleans, but it’s not like there’s a lot of, you know, I mean, Spencer Ratley’s your quarterback. Yeah, exactly. Come on. You you drafted Tyler Shuck in the second round. know and Mickey Lumis must have, you know, pictures of of the Benson family cuz how he’s still the GM there is anybody’s guess. Yeah, really. But back to Kell Moore, I’ve always said this for years and there Cowboy fans who just didn’t like Kell Moore because he come up with some crazy stuff. I would say he’s got a brilliant mind. He’s just not seasoned yet. In other words, he’s trying stuff at the wrong time. Situational awareness was not here when he was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys. But as he’s gotten a little older, he goes over to Philadelphia, they win the Super Bowl, he gets hired away. It’s gonna happen because he’s too damn smart. He’s just too good. And that’s the that’s the problem with the four with the Eagles right now. They don’t they’ve lost these two games in a row and offensively they don’t know what the hell to do. They don’t. And and uh I I think you’ve just got too many cooks in the kitchen and I think Siri is going to have to figure out what he’s doing there and uh take over control of that offense. Uh meanwhile, the Browns continue to be the one of the worst one in five teams in the NFL. They lose today to the Steelers 23 to9. uh the Seahawks and what was a solid game. I’ll tell you what, like I said, I’m on that J Jaguars bandwagon, but uh you know, Trevor Lawrence going to Trevor Lawrence as they lose 20 to 12 today. And the Rams, they win 17-3 over the Reeling Ravens. They’re now 1 and5 on the season, but yet people love to keep saying, well, there there’s still a puncher chance in the NFC or AFC North. Uh I don’t think so. But hey, stranger things have happened. The Raiders, they win. Uh the by the way, Cooper Rush was your quarterback for the Ravens. Lamar Jackson still out. Still out. and they got and they do have a by-week next week, so maybe he comes back after that. Uh the Raiders, they win 20-10 today. Poor Cam Ward. Uh he just has nobody to throw to. And then uh the Bengals, tell you what, they lost today, but they did cover the spread. Uh they fall to the Packers 2718. The Packers are now 31-1 on the year. And then of course, uh the one of the last games of the day, the 49ers fall to the Buccaneers 30-19. and Fred Warner uh he got hurt in early in the first quarter with an ankle injury and it does not look good. They ruled him out immediately after that injury. You had guys uh you know as it was one of them deals where and I can’t think I think it was like a uh line another linebacker safety making the tackle on you know Fred Warner’s bringing bringing the ball carrier down another 49er crashes into him falls into his ankle soon as he gets up he motions over for the trainers immediately guys start putting hands on heads and you know when that happens they got a hick cancel Christmas cancel Christmas that team got a hick they absolutely do but uh you know what it’s 49ers and I don’t care. Uh and then of course don’t forget tonight uh here in about 10 minutes the Kansas City Chiefs will uh reestablish their dominance in the AFC West with a win. Uh no they they lost two well they hell they lost three they’re two and three on the year now. So they beat the Ravens two weeks ago and then they spit the bit last week to the Jaguars on Monday Night Football and of course Chris Jones was seen walking uh on the last play in which Trevor Lawrence scored the touchdown. But you know look it’s going to be okay. Last I checked, Pat Mahomes is still a quarterback. All is right in the world. All right, let’s go out to uh Jason in Washington, DC. What’s up, Jason? Hey. Hey. What’s going on, fellas? How’s it going? All right. Consider Sunday. Yeah, considering he’s lost. Oh, man. It’s ter It’s terrible in Commander Land out here. I’m uh I’m giving all kind all kind of trouble. You surrounded? Listen. Yes. Surrounded heavy out here. These guys go to practice. These girls go to player meetings. These guys sit in position meetings. These guys go over situational football. I know I’ve heard Charlie say a million times, “We practice this, we practice that, we play this, we practice this during the course of the week, but when it comes to Sundays, this defense looks like it doesn’t even go to anything. It’s like they’re sitting in their backyards and by the pool all week and they don’t show up for anything. What? What? What? What are we running on this defense? Is it a zone? Is it man? What are we running? And why is it that players look around when guys are running wide open downfield and they’re looking like this is this you you should have been here. Why aren’t guys why don’t we have a coach on the field from the beginning of the snap say, “Hey, move up. move back, slide over. The run is going to You guys remember Ray Lewis from years ago? Ray Lewis used to say, “I know everything that that offense was going to run.” Why don’t we have guys like that hang up and then Well, I mean, Jason, look, there’s 31 other teams that would love to have a Ray Lewis. Uh, I mean, that that’s a lofty comparison there. I mean, you’re talking about one of the greatest middle linebackers uh of all time, right? So, I mean, you’re Look, I I I if if you could just get an Eric Kendricks right now, I think you’d be happy. I don’t even know if one guy is going to make the difference. I just I just totally believe this defense doesn’t have enough of those guys who have the mentality, the identity of we know what what to do. They’re trying, they’re overthinking. They’re like, “We’re trying to learn Floo’s system.” Yeah. But I know what I used to do. And then us new guys like I don’t even know where I’m supposed to be. Yeah. No, you you get that sense uh a lot. Let’s go out to Harrison and Mosquite. What’s up Harrison and Mosquite? What’s up Harrison? Fred and Chris. My god. I thought I was holding to talk to Taylor Swift or Beyonce. Anyway, uh anyway, uh Fred, you win the argument with Bryce Young. You give him time. He is a decent quarterback. But let me get to my Cowboys. Uh they need a new defense coordinator. Uh we studied bringing in groceries for different coaches. We have for the last three or four years. Okay, this team is lost. You can’t make players understand college algebra as they only stand understand high school geometry. They play manto man. This is a man-to-man defense. You see man, you guard man. I’m a truck driver. I see truck. I drive truck. That’s the way I want to basic. Okay. Now you making excuses for this defensive coach. He’s not a hot item. Where has he been that’s been hype? He had one decent year in Indianapolis. That was it, man. Get off the gas. He cannot coach and the players are starting to leak out stuff. That’s why Diggs had the big uh argument with him about manto man is starting to leak out. You got a top offense. I love the coach. I think his strategy is good. His play caller good. Jack is having a MVP year. It’s not the coach, but go back and listen to the press conference today. He’s starting to point fingers. I think it was Clarence Hill asked him, “Do you think you have the right people to perform the defensive duties?” He said, “Yes.” And it’s something else. You Jerry Jones didn’t talk. They might finally eventually find one of these coaches during the season because if we play above say nine or 10 wins, we got a chance in the playoffs. But we can’t with this damn defense. If your offenses know the defense going to give up 30 points, it’s I mean, I see high school defenses play better. We got better uh high school defense coordinator. Quit making excuses for this man. He cannot coach on the professional level. He coach linebackers at that and they not even playing good. I’ll hang up and listen. Good call. Harrison’s fired up. And uh nobody’s offend I don’t blame No, I don’t think anybody’s defended Floo. I mean and and here’s the other thing. How much of of this blame goes to Jerry in the front office? It does. You know what I’m saying? I mean, it does it starts with them. Here’s and and to to back up Harrison’s point and everybody else that’s talked about, you know, when we keep going back to this whole, you know, well, you know, this you you don’t his system doesn’t fit the personnel. Well, the front office was made the suggestion to Shotti because he’s been here before. Okay. Yeah. Flu has been here before. Don’t Will Mccclelay and Ste I’m going to include Jerry in this, right? cuz I I seriously doubt Jerry’s and maybe he is, who knows? But I mean, I I mean, again, he’s he’s he’s he’s GM and name only. Mhm. But we keep talking about I keep hearing about how great Will Mccclelay is and and and and what he’s able to do. Now, I don’t know where his uh uh responsibilities end, but y’all knew what that Will Mcclelay and Stephen Jones kn knows like. Isn’t it your job to know that Eber Flu is a zone guy, but yet you’ve got guys that you’ve drafted and you’ve signed that are primarily man type guys. It’s funny you bring that up because I think it was um I think it was a Stephen on Gbag um during the week couple of weeks ago. They asked him that exact same question and he said that I flu was very successful in Indianapolis running their defense highly sought which is why he got the head coaching job of Chicago. Yeah. So and I’m paraphrasing at this next part. Yeah. They very familiar with him like they were very familiar with Zimmer before Zimmer when Zimmer came back from the Vikings. Exactly. So they I think they were thinking along those same lines and so they suggested as brought us but they suggested it when uh Shotti was trying to think of different guys he might want to be the defensive coordinator. They suggested that here’s where it’s biting him though and I remember this and I told this on the CA stories. I’m going to tighten this up. Back when Bill Parcels retired uh they were going to bring in North Turner and North Turner it was done deal. They had already hired Jason Garrett to be North Turner. North said, “Get Jason Garrett to be my be my offensive coordinator.” He was the quarterback’s coach for the Miami Dolphins under Nick Sabin at the time. Okay. They had already signed Garrett to be the offensive coordinator. North, who do you want for your defensive coordinator? He mentioned the guy that was running the the Chicago Bears defense. Okay. And then they said, “No, cuz Parcels runs a 34.” You’re like, “Yeah, but this guy, I gotta have this guy got my back.” Yeah. I’m not going to go out like that. This what Nor was saying. Was it Dave Wanstead? No, they they’ve been Norvin and Winston were together with Jimmy in the North. But this was a different guy. He was he was with the Chicago Bears and he was running their defense when they were in the Super Bowl. Can’t remember his name off the top of my head. Bottom line was North insisted that his defensive coordinator, he said, “I have to have a guy that’s got my back.” And they kept saying, “Jerry, I paid good money for a three four defense. That’s what they do.” Yeah. They do the pars. And so people wonder, “How did Wade Phillips get the job?” Because Wade Phillips said, “Hey, I run a three- four defense.” Yeah. And they needed him. Norf said, “I’m not coming unless I get my guy.” So North did not get the job. Garrett was already signed. Wade Phillips comes in to be the new Cowboys head coach because he ran a three four and Marcus Spears, Demarcus Wear, all those guys were three, four guys. So here we are now and I’m like what happened to matching up the defense with Exactly. Now there’s going to be they for some if I flu said he could do zone and man, I would have said and that makes you wonder if he said no I’ll make it work and needless to say he has not made it work. Uh let’s go out to uh Mark in South Kakalaki. What’s up, Mark? What up, Mark? Hey, how y’all doing? Long time listener, long time Cowboy fan. How y’all doing this evening, friend? Y’all had me on hold for a while. You been You’ve been listening. I mean, hey, it ain’t like we’re just, you know, shoe shooting over here. What you got going on? Okay, this how long before I get to my question. This how long I’ve been a Cowboys fan. When, excuse me, when Dwight Clark caught that pass in the corner of the end zone from Joe Montana, Dallas fans don’t realize how close Dallas was with winning that game. Drew Pearson caught a pass over the middle. Did it was badly tackled by his jersey or break. They grabbed his jersey and they didn’t have breakaway jerseys back then. Then they created breakaway jerseys. Breaway. Yes. And not only that, one more. When Roger Starback hit Tony Hill in the corner of the end zone for the Cowboys to win that division over the over Washington Redskins. Yep. Yes, sir. But my question is this. How about how about pitch this to y’all to the listeners and everybody. How about Jerry Jones when Dan Quinn had the defense plan? I understand when Mike McCarthy was fired, I wouldn’t have had a problem with Dan Quinn being the head coach. Yeah, I think a lot of people would have liked that. But unfortunately, Dan changed up his defensive scheme in that Green Bay game. And also, he had already been talking to Washington. So, the year before, that’s when they could have made that move and they paid him big money to stay one more year at least. But it looked like that was a concession plan. Yes, sir. When they did that, I’m guaranteeing when they paid that big money behind quiet doors, I can sense that Jerry promised him the job. Well, if if Mike if we wouldn’t advance no more when they repaid him in the state. I can believe that. That sounds very plausible. And guess what? On those same on that same tip, Bratis told me several or told the listeners several times that Mike Zimmer wanted to be the head coach. And since they weren’t going to make him the head coach, he said, “I ain’t coming back.” And and one other note about head coaches. I mentioned the story about North Turner. The guy that he wanted, the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears was Ron Rivera. Shout out to Willie Bully. Thank you, Willy Bully. Looking that up for me, and thanks for the call, man. Appreciate you, Mark. Appreciate you holding on. All right. Look, we got a handful of folks. Uh we appreciate everybody that’s been calling in, holding on. Like I said, we told you it’s been a full board of calls. It’s been a busy show. It’s been a busy game. And uh you know, like I said, I mean, it’s one thing when you beat the Jets, who are might be the worst football team in uh the NFL versus when you lose a heartbreaker to the Carolina Panthers, a team that, let’s call it what it is, you should have beat today. Wayne, Cisco, Tyler, and Ruben, don’t go anywhere. We’re going to get to you on the other side. We got our boy uh degenerate Jake who’s feeling some type of way today. Why? Well, I don’t want to talk about it. Lots to get to. Don’t go anywhere. There it is. The Specs tailgate show. He throws it in the end zone and wide open Ted McMillan for the touchdown. He He was five yds behind Donovan Wilson. I don’t know who else was supposed to be covering him. Well, Donovan had a rough day today. Mhm. Now, he did get a pick. He did get a pick. It was one of the most I mean, you know, obviously had a lot of momentum going. He’s got two for the season now. And you know what? I thought the I didn’t understand the personal foul penalty on that. I don’t either, you know, because Rico laid out uh blocker going out of bounds. I I mean, I didn’t think it was egregious. I mean, situational. He just hit somebody. So, uh all right, let’s go out to We got a handful of folks. Let’s try Let’s wrap these up and then we got some audio to get to in the next segment and then of course the final hour. Uh we’ll kind of recap the day of predict season. What’s the solution to this mess? We’ll talk about it. Stick around. Stick around the last hour cuz we’re we’re hopefully you guys have an idea. Let’s go out to Wayne and Leach. Let’s have Wayne and Hey fellas, how are you? Good. So, y’all are spot on with uh the role players them letting walk out the door like Tank Lawrence and Jordan Lewis. Like the main point I’m trying to make was that um I think that the last two years have shown how much Dan Quinn was covering up for the the lack of defensive personnel and um Yep. Okay. I appreciate that. Fair enough. What what he I don’t know about covering up. Put it like this. He knew he knew how to utilize them. And you also had some dogs on that team. You had the identity. He had some guys who knew exactly what to do and how to make plays. I was mentioned before just this last year you lost Tank Lawrence, you lost Jordan Lewis. Two years ago they when they just all the backups leave Jron Kur uh Stefon Gilmore uh I could go down the list. You just lost all these guys that were like players, glue guys, you know, it’s like wait a minute, guys who knew how to play, kept that defense tight. It was about scoop and score. It was about pick sixes. It was about taking it to the house. At one point in 2023, Tank Lawrence and Dak Prescott had a had a bet late in the season after Thanksgiving. Who’s going to score the most points, the defense or the offense? Cuz that’s how how balanced it was. We call it a complimentary football. Now, it seems like they’re having a bet on who’s going to give up the most points. Are we gonna give up more points or you guys gonna have to score more for us? That’s kind of the way it feels right now. Let’s go out to uh and and you can’t make this up. Let’s go out to Cisco in Fris. Cisco kid was a friend of mine. Yo, what up CA man? Hey, you a legend. Y’all legends. Just know that. And uh I mean I disagree with what uh the previous guy was saying. Look, I mean we need some inspiration on on a certain side of football. That’s that’s accurate, Phils. Would you guys agree? Okay, say it again now. We need some inspiration on a certain side of the football. Oh, on the defense. Yeah, they need an identity. They need some guys scream and holler and set the tone. I mean, that’s Yeah, I mean, we’re we have a we have a high paid quarterback that’s playing very topnotch. Um, we have a defense that’s not necessarily living up to whatever standards that have been set for them. I think uh me and my dad were talking, ho, hope he’s listening. Me and my dad were talking like, “What will we what would we do if we ran the team, right? How do you change it?” I don’t think it’s a gone season yet. You have a great quarterback playing at a high level. I think there’s possibilities, especially considering you have four draft picks in the top 64 picks next year, right? And you have the same four the year after. What do you do knowing that that you have a George Pickins, a CD Lamb coming back tomorrow? Hold on. Pickings is not coming back. Do not get that in your brain. Do not get that in your They’re not going to spend $60 million on two receivers. I’m talking about $34 million right now on CD and another 30 on George. That ain’t happening. So, but we have assets though is what I’m trying to paint the picture of. For the first time in my young Cowboys life, I’m I’m going to be 29 here soon, let’s say. I’ve never seen him win, but this is the first time that we’ve had assets that I can remember. I mean, I’ve watched I mean, every painful moment. I’ve shared it all with you guys on the radio and all these things as much as these fans have too. Go to every home game even. We have assets. Okay. So, what would you do with the assets? See, that’s the that’s the question. What I would think is how impossible is it to fix this defense? If it feels impossible, that’s a question to the general manager. And you guys like to say general manager and uh well, what makes you feel comfortable that they’re even going to hit on the on I mean, you could have all the assets in the world. I mean, let’s be real. Nean has done nothing for you. Sam Williams has done nothing, right? Uh Mazi is not even in isn’t even active right now. And so that’s my issue. Exactly. So why not use the assets that we actually have? We have first round picks. We have second round picks. We have We have four what to trade in each C. Well, why not? I mean, Dak’s gone in four years. You have CD gone in the same time frame essentially. George Pickkins is not coming back. Let me Let me cosign for you. Let me cosign cuz I I like the way you’re thinking. The problem, unfortunately, is that Stephen and Jerry don’t think that way. They’re It’s very rare for them to trade draft picks for veteran current players. And I wish they would. The George Pickkins trade was an anomaly for them and has worked out wonders. But the reason they did that is because he said if this don’t work, we don’t have to worry about it at the end of the year one way or the other. So I’m I’m with you. I’m thinking they should see you’re thinking the way Howie thinks at Philadelphia and that’s the way every general manager should do. They should think about, you know what, let’s do something with these assets and save this damn season. But they’ve also hit on draft picks, too, though. I mean, I think that’s the other part we forget with how I think we can save it. I think we can say the seeds in. It’s going to sound crazy. I mean, assuming that there’s some true help. I mean, Jerry likes to say there’s help coming back, right? I mean, I believe Dear Demario Oversham is is an asset. I believe that Siobhan Rall is an asset. I think that they’re assets. We’ve seen neither guy play though, and you’re you’re banking on I mean, maybe next year, but not this year. But, but I’m also seeing guys that are playing right now that aren’t helping either. I I think maybe just maybe we’re not very far away. I I maybe I But what what do we get from throwing the talent? I guess. No, I’m with you. The talent’s not good enough and therefore you maybe should trade for some talent, but this front office seems to be afraid to do that kind of move. At the same time, I’m agreeing that they probably should. And this is one of the reasons why even if you say, “Okay, this team sucks. It’s not going anywhere. And why? How can you augment what which is a mess right now? You never know if you did two or three players on defense that could make the difference. The reason I say that is because it’s a eight and n league or a 9 and eight league. Anybody could beat anybody. And if you make a move before the trade deadline, it’s possible because the offense is that stellar. I mean, look, I I I get what Cisco is saying and and I appreciate his optimism, but I I mean, I I I think I’m I’m starting to see the pessimism from the Cowboy fans. Like, I I have a whole new appreciation for the Cowboy fans that called in last week that called in and said, “So what? We beat the Jets.” Mhm. Like that’s like that is the one thing that is the one thing that I think has resonated most with me and that’s one thing I do appreciate about doing these postgame shows is that you know you get because look there is something to be said for the raw emotion that comes with and you guys and you know this CA I mean it’s one thing to get the raw emotion of players after the game right and then I mean look fans are are no different okay same thing and but then you look at the bigger picture too but what is the bigger picture the bigger picture is like I said uh starting the Last week, we were saying, “Give them the 24-hour rule. Let people enjoy this victory for what it is. We’re not going to say this victory is going to lead to a Super Bowl.” We’re saying, “Guess what? We are seeing signs of competitiveness and certain guys are picking things up and they’re looking good and they were able to overcome some of their own adversity, which was some injury related things like on the offensive line.” So, it’s like we saw some things that made you think, well, guess what? They might be able to string together more than three wins. Well, and then we got and then of course we were just prisoners of the moment because we realized that the Jets are awful. Yes, we knew that part, too. I mean, we knew, but we didn’t know. I mean, but at the same time, too, though, you’d seen the Jets, you know, beat, you know, damn near beat the Steelers. Damn near beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, right? Two teams that are together, I think, are eight and two right now. And so, you thought to yourself like, okay, maybe. And oh, by the way, the Jets do have, you know, they got good players on that team, right? They got Quinton Williams one of the best deal. I mean, hell, Jerry tried to trade for Quinton Williams, you know? So there are I mean Garrett Wilson going into this game was the leading wide receiver in the AFC. So there’s you know Bree Hall is a decent running back. I mean hell they’re getting calls uh right now for teams that want a running back. So but in in in the grand scheme of things a team like a team like the um um I’m sorry I just Cowboys you’re looking at Kansas City. He had a Kansas City moment. Everybody we’ll forgive you. We’ll forgive you. That’s your team. There’s a lot of Chiefs fans in Dallas cuz they started in Dallas. Um, you were supposed to beat the Carolina Panthers today. Yeah, you’re supposed to. You know what I’m saying? Like that’s not hyperbole. You know what I mean? You were supposed to beat them and your defense and and again now so so so now we’re in a situation where we are literally in a a a what’s the word I’m looking for here? I mean, this whole season 22, man. It’s Are you saying it’s ambiguous? It’s I I mean, I don’t even know if it’s ambiguous anymore, right? I mean, it it’s literally Do you know what they can do? I don’t know what they can do. Nothing. That’s what I was saying. I mean, look, we don’t know. I think we do know. No, no, we do know. We do know. Here’s here’s what we know. We know the defense is terrible. Correct. Okay. You have zero playmakers on the defense. Correct. And there has been Z outside of beating up on the lowly, and I do mean lowly, New York Jets, this defense has shown outside of a a a you know, snippet against the the Eagles in the second half post hourlong delay, which I I kind of looked at as like, well, you know, no big deal. You’re skipping over one. What’s that? The Giants. You had to go to overtime to beat Russell Wilson. No, no, but my point was that was but your defense didn’t do squat that game. What I’m saying 450 yards. So my point is is that you’ve got no real sample size other than beating up on the craptastic Jets and a and a smidgen against the Eagles and tying the Green Bay Packers and tying the Green Bay Packers who by the way I mean you put up 40 that game, you know, you gave up 40 that game. So it’s just it it it’s just a it is a that’s who they are. The Green Bay game 40th. I mean, it’s just a catch 22 is what this season is, right? It’s literally a catch 22 and you could say your offense is going to score 40, but the defense give up 42. All right, let’s go out real quick. Two calls and then uh we’ll get into some more stuff here. Some audio in the next segment. Let’s go out to Tyler in Plano. What you got Tyler in Plano? Tyler, hey, what’s going on, man? Uh I’ll keep it short and sweet. I got two questions for you. um three three all three levels of the defense. I feel like they’re guys we could bring in tomorrow and cut three guys and we would be immediately better. I’m like 80% sure they’re still available, but Stefon Gilmore, cut Nean, uh Eric Kendricks, cut Samborn, and cut Mazy, bring in Neville Gallammore. Um, also second question is, is there a point in the season, so if we follow through with our plan and we don’t resign George Pickkins, uh, we would still receive a third round compensatory pick for letting absolutely nothing. But is there a point you would reach in the season before the trade deadline if a team is, you know, one receiver away and they’re offering a second round because we have that kind of leverage, uh, would you look at trading and moving on from him before the end of the year? The only way I would do that if the Cowboys lose out going into that part. In other words, the these next three or four weeks they can’t win a game. That would be the only reason because you know you’re not keeping Pickkins. You know, he will not be back. Jerry ain’t getting Jerry’s too Yeah. He’s got to sell tickets. He’s too stubborn. He There ain’t no way in hell he’s trading uh George Pickkins. And but he also knows we stop with the Steven Gilmore stuff. Stefon Gilmore. I mean, God I mean, look, God bless Stefan Gilmore, but there’s a reason why no one else assigned him either. Oh, you know what I’m saying? Like, I mean, we we I get it. He was good two years ago, okay? Cornerbacks don’t age like wine. Mhm. Okay. Like, they they just don’t. And if Stefon Gilmore was was worth uh uh signing in a league where you can never have enough uh uh cornerback depth, Yep. he’d have been signed by now. Yep. You know what I’m saying? Like, so again, and I’m not just trying to say anything to to Tyler, but you know, we get a lot of these calls and texts about, well, let’s take a, you know, Stefan Gilmore. That was two years ago, folks. Okay. And he was what, 33 then? How many? Yeah. Stop me if you’ve heard of a an elite 35year-old cornerback. I’ll hang up and listen. All right, last one. Greg and Denton, take us home. I have a couple of questions. Number one, I think that we may be on the verge of of a pretty good defense if we use our assets properly in next year’s draft because we’re going to get Overshon back. We’re going to get Real back and we have three premium draft picks. So, two first and a second. That’s five premium guys you can add to a defense. That’s provided you hit on all of them though. And then I want to say one of Glad you hit properly. But but here’s the other thing too though. Well, you say properly. I mean, look, and and one other thing, and I just I’m gonna I’m gonna say this, and I’m I’m I’m just asking hypothetically. Why is everybody so convinced that Overshon is going to come back and and be the guy? He’s played nine games as a Cowboy. Well, because he came back from his earlier knee injury and was the guy. Okay. For nine games. Okay. So, let me say this. He’s now two injuries. I’m going to give you the tiebreaker. Uh you weren’t here, Fred, but there was a guy who reminds me of Oversham. And Oversham reminds me of him, and I love that guy. Shawn Lee. Yeah. He could be Sha Lee all over again. Shawn Lee was brilliant. He was great. He made plays, but he always was hurt. And that’s what I fear for Over Sean because he does everything so well and then something happens. Am I wrong on that question? Am I wrong on that? No, you’re not wrong on Shauna Lee. I had one more question, though. Yes, sir. Why didn’t the Cowboys try out Gardner Johnson? I And that’s this an honest question. It’s not a criticism. Right. Right. Why didn’t Why didn’t they try out Gardenner Johnson? He was a good safety. Did That’s a good question. That’s a great question. I mean, look, for the same reason, I I I can’t understand some of the processes and and and ways the Cowboys go out and get free agents. It’s illogical. It’s like everybody knew Derrick Henry was the answer and he was living here already. But guess what? Stephen told Jerry, “We’re going to draft one. Don’t worry, it cost too much.” And I’m not even mad at that per se. But that was just one that nobody understood. What I don’t understand, and look, I like Jade Devon Clowny. Nice guy. All right. Gave me an interview with him a couple weeks ago. You need a guy that can rush the passer, right? And Jade Devian’s not that guy. I mean, is he a solid DN? Yeah. If if if you got actual pass rushers that he can back up. Why didn’t you go get Zidarius Smith? Oh, by the way, it’s not like he’s I mean, it’s not like he’s got the world lit on fire. Bring it back, Tank. Mhm. Well, because well, you mismanaged that. Exactly. You mismanaged that because, you know, you you had decided that you were playing with it. You’re trying to mess with him too much. And I think And I think the other thing was too was that you had you thought after last year because he missed most of the season, you were thinking to yourself, “All right, well, we’ve already drafted your replacement.” Okay. And I I think that and and again, going back to Brian Bratis and Woolchuk’s point, they overvalue. They do. The people they’ve brought in, they do. Okay. Sam Williams has been nothing. Has has done nothing for you, especially since the injury. He’s done nothing for you this year. Uh Ezaraku has shown flashes, but I mean, he hasn’t had that aha moment yet. And I don’t know that he’s going to. And again, again, remember I said all these draft picks don’t hit the ground running. Some of them on the job training. You have to sometimes you got to wait. But guess what? While you’re waiting, Dak’s getting older. That’s the problem. You got to know how to do it like Philadelphia. And and the other thing is too, CA, and we’ll get out here with this is, you know, it’s even if they don’t hit the ground running, can we at least see a flash every now and again? Exactly. Can we at least see, you know, like, oh, dang, he had a he had a big pick in a big moment or or or got a big or got a big sack in a big moment, right? Like caused, you know, forced a fourth down, did something. And we still ain’t seen it, right? The only one we’ve seen is how to oversh all the time. All right. Uh let’s get some audio. Let’s hear from Tyler Smith. Let’s hear from Shotty. And let’s hear from Dak. Your text messages and more. Lots to get to. This is the Specs Tailgate Show. You know that expression, put a little spring in your step. [Music] remember that. You know, they say in order to remember something, you forget something. That is very cool. That’s like a little shel. Oh, is that your name? No, let me know your name. [Music] Okay, you bringing me out a little bit. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] has grays. No, that’s absurd. Hey, remember when you used to be a what was it? Um Pepper Lady. Pepper Lady. Cinnamon Sisters. Raise your waves. That front squad. Not make maidens precurb. No. Who said that? Was it spice girls? Doesn’t sound right. Was it saf? [Applause] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [Music] the speechster from Colorado. M m welcome back in. It is the uh Specs tailgate show right here on 105 through the fan. I’m Fred Davis. That’s the three-time Hall of Famer Chris Arnold. Got you down. Uh don’t forget Specs Wine, Spirits, Finer Foods. Proud partner of the Dallas Cowboys. Cheers to savings. 877881 1053 8778811053. That is the Franklin Frankl injury attorney text line. All right, we’ve burned through some uh phone calls. You guys have all been fantastic today. Uh I know a couple you guys complained about the uh long wait time, but uh that’s a testament to the show. That’s a testament to the Hall of Famer. It’s testament to generate Jake behind the glass and uh you guys being fired up to talk about your Dallas Cowboys today. Exactly. All right. Uh you know, normally when you listen to some audio from the locker room, they got to Cowboys locker room and talk to some audio, right? I got a new name for this segment just for tonight. Let’s hear it. What’s wrong with us? What’s wrong with us? What’s wrong with us? What’s wrong with us? Well, we’re going to find out what’s wrong with us. I’m glad you said that, CA, because uh we need to know what’s wrong with us. This is uh Tyler Smith back in action today. Back at that starting left guard spot. Ironically enough though, you ran the ball worse today than you did last week when you had four guys out. But hey, that’s okay. Uh Tyler Smith, how come you guys weren’t able to establish the run game? I mean, we just didn’t execute the way we needed to. Um I think they had a a great plan in terms of like stopping us and, you know, preventing us from, you know, having those efficient runs. That’s just something we got to work on in practice is getting more efficient at, you know, dominating those difficult looks. But kudos to them. Um they do what they supposed to do. Different looks. We lauded Clayton Adams and Connor Riley last week for the ymanlike work they did. Really the yman like work they’ve done all season uh getting these guys put together. But um I’m going to give him a D today. Really? I’m going to give him a C. And let me explain why. I’m from a running game standpoint. Yeah. Running game. Running game. I’ll give him a D. What do you give him overall? Overall, I’m going to give him a B minus. And the reason why is because Dak Prescott had time. But he had time. He uh brought us gave a stat where he had like 3 seconds to throw. Here’s the thing that’s wild about him. He was 25 out of 34 for 261 yards, three touchdown passes and a 124 passer rating. This is the third game in a row with Dak having three touchdown passes and a passer rating of 120 plus. Yeah. So that’s the offensive line protecting him. He didn’t have any picks. He didn’t get I don’t even think he got sacked. I got hit a couple times. I was going to say I don’t think he got sacked at all. And and again, we’ve had a revolving door with these offensive linemen. So, I’m going to give those coaches props for taking care of the quarterback, but the running game, I cannot believe they didn’t even try. I I I’m going to give him a C++. And the only reason I’m going to give him a C plus I I like where your head’s at as far as give him a B overall, but I’m C or B minus. So, I’m going to give him a C plus. And here’s why. Because the as as great as you were to piggyback off what you just said, as great as you were protecting Dak, you weren’t when you needed it most in that last possession. That’s true. You know, like that the one cuz he was dumping. It was a dump dump off pass and and and you and 22 yards behind the line of script. Come on, man. You you you need he didn’t have time for as much time as he had on every possession leading up to it. you your offensive line was not great on that last series, you know? I mean, there’s a reason why Dak had to get rid of the ball quick and and look down to whether it was a whether it was Javvante or a check down because he had no time to throw. So, and then it was the same. And of course, you know, like you said, when you’re third and 22, you know, there ain’t a lot of plays in the playbook for third and 22, right? Okay. Hope and prayer. That’s what you got. At least hold do something something or or you know, throw it up to to to Pickkins and see if you can draw a PI. Yeah. You know, I’m going to give shot. Like I said, Shotty got outplay coach. I mean out play called. He did. The the play caller for offense on the Carolina. But how hard is it to play call? I although I want to say I can’t even talk. I’m so excited I can’t even say. How hard is it to play calls? How hard is it to call plays when Rico Dadd’s gashing you for seven yards a carry? See, here’s so wild. Some guys would be overthinking it and say, “You know what? That’s true. Let’s trick them up. Simple soup. Keep it simple. They ain’t stopped him yet. Two games in a row. Let him keep cook. Let him cook. Rico cooked. What did I hear? He turned the Cowboys into barbecue chicken. What did I hear them say that um I think it was Wool Chuck that read this stat off that said something to the effect of uh our boy had 13 carries for at least he had at least 13 touches that went seven yards or more. Cowboys didn’t have one. That tells you all you need to know. Uh, Shotti, your head coach, Eberloose, your embattled defensive coordinator. I guess the question remains with the guys that the Cowboys currently have defensively, can they work within Ebra’s system? Yeah, absolutely. No question about it. We uh we got to coach better, got to play better. The physicality of it all um you know, we’re a physical football team. We didn’t show it uh today. Give them credit. Um, and uh, we have to we have to be better and it’s not just the defense, it was the offense. Yeah, we threw the ball all over the yard and that was great. But at the end of the day, we want to be balanced and we weren’t able to do that today and we got to look at that as an offensive staff and see what they did to to to stop the run. He covered for Evil was really good. But that’s not the answer. No question. But the question remains, what’s wrong with us? But I I think it goes back to with with Shotti. Mhm. I I I think he’s kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, right? He really is. Okay. He’s got to say those things. He He can’t He Look, he can’t throw He look, we know he’s a team first. Win the press conference. Can’t throw the coordinator under the bus. And he can’t because you’ve already got an embattled locker room, okay? as far as the defensive side of the ball. And the last thing you want, we’re going to hear from Dak here in just a second, is a, you know, us against them mentality where you got the offense saying, “Hey,” and again, we were in that locker room after the uh overtime game, the tie where you had the offense that was like, “Man, we just put up 40 on Green Bay.” Uh-huh. And you know what? It was that same night Dak was doing his press conference and he said, “My number one job is to keep people from pointing fingers at each other.” Your boy asked him that question, by the way. Uh, that was you. That’s right. Come on now. you know Davis, you know how we do CA. Uh Dak, after today’s loss, does this change the way you feel about this football team? It’s a long season. It’s a long long season. I’ve been three and five before, I guess. Right. And we went and ran and made made the playoffs. So, um that that’s that’s my point. We’ve just got to find a way to win these close games right here. And I’ve got all the confidence that we will. Um right, that game right there, I just wanted the ball back in my hands knowing that we’d go win. And unfortunately, it didn’t happen. But, you know, re reality of it is we’ve got to do better on that last three and out. More importantly, we got to score in the red zone when we had that chance there and right that field goal is for a tie or they’re having to score to win. So, um it’s a long season. It’s a long season. We got a lot of great players. We got guys getting healthy and guys coming back. That’s only going to make this team better, more explosive. Um and just we got to keep our heads down and keep working. Understand it’s a process and um it is a loss, but it’s also we got to take something and learn from it. Just you know what? It just dawned on me. What’s that? You know what this team is? What? The Rangers. What do you mean? Every time you think they’re going to make a step forward season, that’s it. This season, they’re looking like the Rangers from this season. Two steps forward, two steps back. So far, you know, I mean, and that’s what you haven’t won. You’ve you’ve won, lost, you know, excuse me. You’ve lost one, lost, tied, one lost. What are we doing right now? Uh George Pickkins, not the most verbose guy in the world. What’s the feeling like in the locker room right now, my man? Oh yeah. Yeah. Uh definitely, you know, after a loss, you never want to lose. Uh especially a game I feel like we know personally that we had. Uh you just got to finish drives. Uh so definitely, like I said, disheartening, I’ll probably say. Okay. Disheartening. Let me say this about Pic. His nickname is NFL Young Boy. Yeah. and he got run out of Philadelphia run out of Pittsburgh because found this out the fans and the coaches staff started thinking this good this guy’s going to turn into Antonio Brown. Yeah. If Antonio Brown had never played for the Steelers, he’d still be George Pickkins would still be a Steeler. I promise you. They just felt like he was melting down and they thought it was only going to get worse. And he melted down because he felt like he could help the team win if they just threw him the damn ball. So here not in Dallas. He is not melting down. He’s have cuz here’s here’s part of the thing. He knows, don’t get me wrong, it’s he probably wouldn’t mind staying here, but he knows it’s probably not going to happen. No, but here’s what al I want all Cowboy fans to understand this. I do not expect him to melt down when CD Lamb comes back. And number one reason, let me tell you the number one reason. First of all, him and CD are good friends. But the other reason is this. He now has tape to show all the rest of the league. This is what happens if I’m your dominant ex. if if I’m your number one receiver, this is what you can get. So, in other words, if George Pickkins doesn’t see the ball as much as he’s been seeing the last couple of weeks, he will not melt down. Trust me, he’s smart enough to know that. At the same time, too, though, I I I think he’s going to I I think you’ll see a consistent uh uh best quarterback he’s played with. Well, well, that Yeah, absolutely. On that front, but I think now that him and Dak have developed some chemistry and some rapport together, I mean, I think even when CD does come back, I mean, it’s going to be you’re going to see seven, eight targets a game still for George Pickkins because now again, and and that’s why a loss today is so vital because if you could have just won today, you’re 32 and one and when you do get CD back, that does change the ter because I mean right now I mean look with all due respect to Ryan Fenoy, okay? I mean he he’s a one game wonder right now. Okay. Uh uh we already talked about Jaylen Tolbert. That that is what it is. But this offense could go to a totally stratospheric level when CD gets back. It really could. And the number one reason you say this is going to work if for those who haven’t think Dak will never do that. Dak did it with Amari and CD. He made both of those guys stars. And oh, by the way, these guys are both in their prime right now. That’s the scary part. Uh this is the Specs Tailgate Show. Specs Wine Spirits Finer Foods. Proud part of the Dallas Cowboys. Cheers to Sav. All right, we got a couple people that are trying to get back in on this uh some on this conversation. Ryan in Dallas, he wants to peep through a little bit. We got some text messages. 8778811053. Go ahead. You know what? Let’s open the phones back up. We got an hour left. Let’s uh you know what? Let’s break bread. Let’s end this show on a positive note. And uh you know, let’s wax nostalgic on a Cowboys loss. Sean and RJ, the KNC Masterpiece, Gmag Nation, and Fan After Dark, live and local. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] on product. I got to remember that. You know they say in order to remember something you have to forget something else. Okay. Now, that is a very cute stuff. That’s like a little shag. I’ve never seen that before. Well, Rachel. Oh, is that your name? No, I mean, it’s your name. No, I’m Jen. My name’s Jen. Right. But I just mean like this is your haircut. But that’s hair on your head. I’m not saying this is your hair. Okay. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] [Music] Do you think it’s true You got to forget something else to remember the Uber East of Dallas Cowboys football. KRLD FM and HD1 Dallas Fort Worth. Let’s go Cowboys. An Odyssey sports station driven by our DNM leasing studios. Thanks for turning it on. Leaving it on 1053 the fan. Three steps throws the ball off kept and intercepted on a deflection by Donovan Wilson. His second of the year went off McMillan’s hands. Wilson down the right sideline across the 20 and he’s all the way down inside the 15 yd line. That ball went off the hands of T McMillan. That was one of the highlights of uh the defensive side of the ball. Not a lot of them. Not a lot of them today, but that was one actually. I would say that was one of two. There was that one and then there was when they forced the punt in the fourth quarter and of course the offense wasn’t able to do anything. They called that complimentary football ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately, your Dallas Cowboys did not play enough of it today. This is the Specs Tailgate Show. I am Fred Davis. That is the three-time Hall of Famer Chris Arnold. Yes, you do. We got our boy degenerate Jake Ray behind the glass on the one, twos, and threes. Did you notice a pep in Jake step today? Not to say that he doesn’t always have one when he’s uh working behind the glass on the one, twos, and threes, but are you saying that Jacob makes made some money today? Well, I mean I that I don’t know, but I just I Well, yeah. No, poor guy. But um you know who you know who got me? It was Bo Knicks. It was Bo Knicks not hitting his over in passing yards. Well, that’s that’s shame. My my parlay was chocked when I woke up this morning. You know how bad of a feeling that is to wake up on a Sunday ready to watch some football and shot in the in the morning. What was the number? It was like 211. I even took his discounted line. Yeah. Yeah. Rough day. Rough. Finished with a robust 174 against that Juggernaut Jets defense. Of course, you could have been uh I mean, hell, you probably should have taken the under on the Justin Fields passing yards. I know. I could have taken the under on their offensive yards and it would have hit and still would have hit. Uh what a disaster. But no. Um what was the pep in the step then? Well, I got to give I I got to give my man his props. I mean uh our teams battled it out last night and I mean battle might be a uh overstatement because uh well my Kansas Jay-Hawks got trounced last night 427 by Texas Tech. I mean and and you know what for as bad as KU looked early in the game I mean it was what 18 nothing to start the 18 21 nothing whatever it was KU gets to within 217 at half kicks a 50-yard field goal at halftime. you’re thinking we’re right back in this and then um just couldn’t couldn’t execute in the third quarter and then our coach is whining and complaining about tortillas and alleged pocket knives and you know like bro just go win a game. How about that? Well, I want to thank both of you for keeping U out your m out my mouth out your mouth and think and TCU and who else? Uh North Texas. Rough day for your peeps yesterday. Yeah, North Texas TCU OU. We don’t want to hear nothing. And props to UT y’all did that time, but you know, I don’t mean you. Here’s my question for you being the OU grad that you are. I had run into some guy. I was when I was flying back to Dallas yesterday morning from Kansas. How many playing Southwest? What’s that? Come playing Southwest. Absolutely. I was flying back on Southwest and there was two cats next to me and they were both Oklahoma. Uh well, the kid had wrestled at U and the dad, it was it was a dad and his son and the kid had wrestled at OU. So I asked him, I said, “Hey, how do you feel about John Matier playing?” The son was like, “Yeah, let’s go.” Before the game. Before the Yeah, this before the game. This Yeah, this is Saturday morning. So I asked him, I said, cuz they were they were going to the game. And so the son was like, “Ah, we’re excited.” D. And the dad was like, “Eh, I’d rather him not play.” And one of the reasons why a lot of people was like, “Maybe he shouldn’t play cuz we won the week before 44 to nothing with the backup quarterback.” Backup quarterback. And I just felt like, you know, are you robbing Peter to pay Paul? I get it. He’s a gamer, but that’s his throwing hand. You know what’s so crazy? I don’t even think it was his throwing hand that caused those three three interceptions. I think the fact that he was trying to over He was too hyped. He was trying to say that’s no problem. Yeah, I threw a pick. I’ll be all right. And they do. In other words, he was trying to over conversate for like whatever. The hand was really no problem, but he was doing way too much. He was overthinking everything. That was my my take. Still a lot of football left. Oh, yeah. Still a lot of football left. You We’re five and one. You can lose one game and still make the playoffs. No, you absolutely can. You absolutely can. And and I don’t know, just real quick, I don’t know when watching the SEC this year. Look, Alabama can get got. All right. I don’t think George is the juggernaut that has been in years past. I mean, it it is if Matir can get back to, you know, get his hand 100% healthy again and and you know, who do y’all play next week? I can’t remember. I blocked it out. I get I told you. Keep it out your mouth, man. And here we go talking about it. Well, no. I’m just Hey, I’m I’m I’m on Look, I was team OU yesterday. I really was. And Well, I mean, it’s what you did for me. Rough day to be If Fred was on your bandwagon yesterday, not good for you. You over. We have to kick you off, man. Hey, I’m off. I’m off. Look, U lost. KU lost. Uh Texas lost. My Chiefs are losing right now, so I don’t want to hear it. All right, let’s go to Ryan Dallas. What’s up, Ryan Dallas? What’s up, Ryan? What’s up? What’s up, guys? What’s up? I don’t know. You tell me. Hey, man. So, today I had a phone call with my brother and I just asked him. I was like, “Hey, man. Why did the good Lord make us Cowboys fans?” That’s a fair point. And the only thing we could come up with was that it was to keep us humble cuz we’d be unsufferable if they were good. So, my question to you guys is, why did the Lord make you guys Cowboys fans? Well, technically he didn’t make me I’m a Chiefs fan. I just happen to work for the Cowboys station. And I’m going to tell you right now, I will say this, having covered the Dallas Cowboys now for a year and a half, and this is not me pandering in any way, shape, or form, but you know, having I worked in the Houston market, as a lot of you guys know, for 12 years, and there is something about the Dallas Cowboys, like you you just like you do get sucked in. I’m I’m I’m not going to lie, okay? Like look, I mean, I I am a Chiefs 1A, Dallas 1B. Now, granted, it doesn’t hurt that, you know, one’s NFC, one’s AFC, so that certainly helps. That that makes people who live here that are the same way, right? But it’s the other way around cuz again, the Chiefs started in Dallas. They were the Dallas Texans and then they moved to Kansas City. But guess what? They’re in the AFC. And since the Cowboys hadn’t done anything this century and the Chiefs have been to what five straight you got well they’ve been to three four the last five and of course you got Mahomes being from Tyler being a Texas Tech guy right so you know there you go so you know you got a lot of and he lives here in the offseason he lives here he’s a Dallas Mavericks fan right so you know a lot of lot of six degrees of of Patty Mahomes there I’m going tell you something I’m I’m not a Cowboys fan I’m not a fan of any team except for Oklahoma and the reason why I stayed detached. I’ve always been a fan sort of fanatical and I really really like sports a lot. Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve never dipped in those waters where they just make me go crazy. I’m I’m with you. Like I said, I just I grew up with Kansas City. Uh I grew up a Chiefs fan. I love the team because I know the players and the history and and I got a relationship with all those, but I want them to win, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not that fanatical where it ruins my day. I just can’t do that. there there’s something about when and and this this goes whether you’re college pro, whatever. Like it’s just the vibe in the town is different when your team wins. In fact, I was saying I would say this all the time throughout these years, even if you’re not a Cowboys fan, you hope that they win if you work in this town because people are just nicer. No, it makes a difference. Makes a whole whole whole uh How you doing? How you doing? How you doing? I’m doing all right. How you doing? All right, let’s go out to uh let’s go out to Hatch and Rock Wall. What’s up, Hatch? Hey, Hatch. Hey, what’s going on, guys? How are y’all? Good. What’s going on with you? Oh, not much. Hey, just, you know, Texas did what they needed to do. Yeah, they did. Survive. Mhm. Um, Cowboys Dak Pres is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He really is playing very well. Yeah. And he did last year and the year before and the year before and the year before. But, uh, man, that’s all I got to say is, you know, we got to keep faith. and both teams that who I love from Dallas. Mom went to UT Law, so I’m a Texas fan. Okay, I guess at heart at at her heart, right? I ain’t mad at that. So, you know how we, you know, uh Oklahoma fan over here. Got you down, Boomer. Yeah, you got me now. I uh No, it’s always a good uh good game between the two no matter what happens. That’s right. It’s a rivalry for sure. I appreciate the call, man. Thanks for the call. And he’s right about Dak Prescott. The Dak Prescott thing is is real simple. If he wins the Super Bowl, I watched it with Dirk. They dogged out Durk forever and then he wins the ring and all of a sudden I never dogged out D. Yes, you did. I was here answering these phone calls. So, so once again, I’m not saying he’s generational talent. I’m not saying I’m saying he’s a very good quarterback. He just doesn’t have the insane arm talent where fans can brag going into the game. Oh, we got a chance. We got Joe Burrow. We got Josh Allen. He can sling it. Dak is not a gunslinger. But if he wins a ring, guess what? You can say, “Oh, he’s always been a nice complete quarter,” which I think you I I think he is. I mean, I I I believe that this is a Super Bowl caliber type offense. Like, it really could be. Um the last last week you saw the offensive line’s versatility with backup players that they didn’t do a great job uh run blocking or one run blocking uh the running game was not there. It they should have paid more attention to it some kind of way. So it’s still I just think it’s going to get better and better the offensive line. I do too. And it it protected deck well. Very well. No, I I I think again it was one of those things where when you needed the the the the unfortunate part of today, like we said, was that when you need your offensive line was great for about 87% of the ball game today from a pass blocking perspective. Again, they were not great run blocking today. That’s something that will get fixed. At least you’d like to think it will. But what I think was the most detrimental part was when you need your off when you needed your offense to make a stand and to give Dak time to throw. They did not do that today. So, we’ll see how that whole thing plays out. Uh when it was all said and done, we’ll just read off some stats here. Uh just from today’s ball game, uh as far as the Cowboys were concerned, let’s see. I got this thing up here somewhere. At least I While you while you look up that one, I’m going tell you right now, cuz I see a couple of them. George Pickkins caught a career-high nine passes for 168 yards and a touchdown. Pickins 168 receiving yards were the second most in his career all time. He had a receiving touchdown in five consecutive games. Now he’s the seventh player in franchise history with the fiveame receiving touchdown streak. Dak Prescott 25 of 34, 261 yards, three touchdowns, no sacks. He ended up with a 124.8 uh quarterback rating with a QBR of 90.2. And then of course the affforementioned Javvante Williams, like I said, just wasn’t his day on the ground today. 13 carries for 29 yards for a woeful 2.2 two yards. He was top five runner going into No, no. I mean, hey, he he been lights out. Now again, they stuffed him. That was the game plan. Stop Javvante. And they did just that. Let’s go out to uh Craig and Arlington. What’s up, Craig and Arlington? Hey, how you guys doing tonight? I guess as well as could be, huh? Absolutely. Hey, listen. I’m going to continue the rant if you don’t mind. I’m watching this. I’ve been a longtime Cowboys fan. I’m 65 years old. I’m watching a game with my wife today. I’m watching every game. Couple weeks ago, I was Now, I’m not a football guy. I’m a fan. I’m not a professional football guy. So, I really don’t know football. So, I’m watching the game. I’m I’m telling my wife, uh, Diggs is playing seven yards off the receivers. I’m like, why do you not just uh slow him down off the line? What the hell? What the hell? Today, I’m watching the game. I’m watching that uh uh that touchdown and Donovan Wilson. I love the guy, but that’s not his he’s not a coverage guy. No, he goes after a thump on a Yeah, he put a thump on a dude on the sideline and I told the wife that’s what he’s good at. And it’s like the other meetings. What the heck is going on? These guys are going to have to make I’m going to make me seek counseling. I got you. Well, you and a lot of other people, Craig, great call. Mike in Dallas, real quick. Take us home 30 seconds or less. What you got? Man, listen. I’m not going to drink the Kool-Aid like that. I’m a Cowboy fan. I I’m I I I don’t want anything Jerry Jones. If I get any joy out of this season is watching Jerry Jones spend his money and lose. I’m not a Jerry Jones fan. But I will say, man, this team is not good enough and smart enough Sunday in and Sunday out to win a Super Bowl, let alone probably make it to the playoffs and win in the first round. Dak is a above average quarterback. He’s playing lights out right now, but I’m looking at the longevity and what he’s done since he’s been here. And when you punch in the tape, when it counts, you don’t play for stats, bro. That’s the LeBron James mindset. You play for championships around here. He ain’t got none. Thanks. Okay. He just dropped the mic, man. What a great call. What a great call. I appreciate the just matterof fact way he delivered that. All right. When we come back, a little scoreboard action. What went down in the NFL today? A couple more pieces of audio. Lots to get to. Don’t go anywhere. To low means turn it on. And [Applause] [Music] Peppa Lady. Pepper Lady. Wasn’t it Cinnamon Sisters? Basil Babes. Nutmeg. No. Nutmeg maidens. I just said that. Was it Spice Girls? Doesn’t sound right. Was it Saffron Squad? [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Hey everybody. [Music] Hey baby. [Applause] [Music] Hey, daddy. Heat. [Music] Hey, Heat. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] [Music] Wow. [Music] Heat. [Music] Remember [Music] has a little You know they say in order to remember something you have to forget something else. Okay. Now that is a very cute. That’s like a little shag. I’ve never seen it before. Of course you have. Oh, is that your name? No. I mean, what’s your name? No, I’m Jen. My name’s J. acting like this is your haircut, but that’s hair on your hair. I’m not saying this is your hair. Okay. [Music] Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Do you think it’s true that you got to forget something else to remember that the week later you have some of these editorial cartoons? There’s I’ll never forget this. There’s an editorial cartoon. It was showing these two parents looking at the TV set and there’s a little boy in between them and there, you know, Janet Jackson’s on the screen and the little boy says, “Daddy, I didn’t know Janet was a sheriff.” That’ll do it. That’ll do it. Nobody that solving it, they know what I’m talking about. No, they absolutely do. Um, Jacob, did you see the Well, he was probably an infant. I’m talking about recently. Huh? Did I see what? Janet Jackson’s scandalous halftime super. I did not. Did you know she Jason Justin Timberlake took off her top and a a uh breast was exposed? Cuz that was 03. So, you would have been an infant. I’m just even saying like lately. I’m talking about just on YouTube in the last were you? Juno June 03. I was born. So, I was uh Wow. Well, you weren’t even alive yet. Have you even heard about it? I haven’t. Not until you start talking about it right now. Okay. So, Oh, you didn’t know about the Janet Jackson nipple? No, I’ll do some research. Oh, they black ballalled her. She was a big- time star until that situation happened at the Super Bowl. Justin just Justin Timberlake ripped off her top and it was planned and but she said it was supposed to only be uh like a lace thing and the underneath would still be covering it. He he grabbed and he thought he was going to be scandalized too and he kind of tap danced away from that. Yeah. But she got black ballalled. Doesn’t he have lupus now? Who? Justin Timberlake. Justin Timberlake. I have no idea. I don’t know. 877811053. You know, he had a rough go of it uh in the last year. Mhm. He got a DUI and then he was all doped up or drunk or something. Those Britney Spears fans will say that’s that’s karma. Mr. Karma because all the dirt about him and Britney Spear. But but I was going to say back to Janet real quick. The the joke about the sheriff part was because she had a shiny nipple. No. Oh, she had a piercing. Oh, that looked like a badge. Technically shiny. Yeah, Justin Timberlake has Lyme disease. Lime is Lyme disease. Not lupus. Lyme disease. Um nothing to play with, by the way. nothing to play with, by the way. Uh, all right, let’s take a look at this Dallas Cowboys schedule moving forward after today’s loss. Again, now 2,3 and one on the young season. But we say young season, you’re a third of the way through. That’s right. All right. I mean, it the proverbial a lot of football left. Yes and no. They have played six games. Yes and no, boys and girls. We are only 11 games left. Okay. Yeah, that’s it, right? Okay. So, you’ve got the Commanders on Sunday. We’ll be there. It’s going to be at AT&T Stadium. Uh oh, look here on the NFL.com 105 through the fan. That’s the radio station that’ll be playing it. Make sure you guys tune in. Uh all right, so that’s going down 325. Is uh since that’s a 325 game, it would do. We think that’ll be the game of the week if it’s a 325. Yes. Do we think our boy TV12 is going to be uh broadcasting that? Yes, potentially. All right. So, you got Commanders, right? Next week. Why did we have Tom Brady calling the Ravens and Rams game today, by the way? It’s on the radio on the schedule before Ravens fell apart. They don’t flex the broadcasters. Not this early. No, they don’t flex the broadcasters at all. But they don’t flex the game until like December. I got Yeah. 3 weeks ago that was a prime time match. Yeah. Yeah. No. And then Lamar got hurt and then Puka. Do we have an update on Puka? We don’t. It was a high ankle sprain, wasn’t it? Is that what it was? I think so. That’s what I was hearing. That’s no weno. That’s no winnow. Uh, all right. So, you got the Commanders next week. By the way, there’s the shiny right there. See? Oh, wow. Hello. Um, all right. Then you’ve got the Denver Broncos after that. Then you’ve got the Arizona Cardinals after that. So, you got three weeks and of course you got the by-week uh on November 10th. So, um I mean, look, I I don’t know. Commanders at home at the Broncos, Cardinals at home. I I’ I’d like to think you go two and one in that stretch. I’d like to think you go two and one in that stretch, but the offense will score 40 and the defense will give up 40. That’s why you can’t tr You said it’s like the Rangers. You can’t This year’s Cowboys are like this year’s Rangers. You don’t know what to expect. You know, if you could if you if you found a way if you found a way to go two and one Mhm. You’re going to the by-week 44 and one and and and you’ve got a puncher chance. Okay. But you you have to I mean and again this is one of those and this is what football does. Yeah. Okay. This is what football does to you. You like to where even though you just again played horrifically on defense, here we are, you know the the old definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Here we are 3 weeks before the buy and we’re we’re coming up with scenarios and rationalizing, well, if this happens, if this happens, if this happens and that happens, you know, it’s kind of like that scene from It’s Always Sunny where the guys looking at everything on the board and everything like that. That’s kind of what it feels like right now because would I be surprised at all if if the Cowboys went and and and beat the Commanders on Sunday? No, I wouldn’t be at all. And then you go to Denver, probably lose to them. Yeah. Then you come home to Arizona. Arizona’s not great, but I’ll tell you what, they’ve got weapons on offense. And then what do we know about Kyler Murray? He’s from He’s from here. Never lost at AT&T Stadium. So, you’re going to hear that high school, college, or pro. Never. Kelsey dropping a ball. What a surprise. Uh, you know, so you’ve got that going on. So, but just it’s like the Rangers, though. The only I just thought about your comparison is how smart you are about this because the quarterback’s playing great, right? The pitching staff was great. That’s the only thing you can counter with. But that wasn’t enough. No, because you didn’t have any offense or you didn’t have any sometimes the defense would suck. Sometimes you left men stranded on base. It was things that the quarterback or slash starting pitchers could not control. Outside of the 17-point loss to Jacob Chicago Bears, you have lost your other two games by seven points combined. And and then you tied. We’ll see. I mean, this is such I mean, this is such a weird football team. It is so weird because it they literally could be 0 and six. I mean, they really could the win against the Now, the Jets the Jets you you handled. You did, but guess what? You could easily be one and five. But guess what? If Martis Leaf foul doesn’t punch out the ball, you don’t know. See, this is where we’re doing this thing all over again. It’s just like the Giants. That was an overtime win. And it was an overtime win. And Russell Wilson flashed back threw 450 yards, but he sucks and that’s why he’s not the starting quarterback no more. You might have lost that team. Well, you got to play one more time. You got Jackson Dart and you got uh uh uh what’s his name? The running back from Arizona State. Scataboo. Scaboo. They’re acting like Dak and Zeke. Ah, they love that first from the rookie year. Yeah, those two guys. I’m not saying they’re going to do like Dak and Zeke their career, and I’m not going to say they’re going to win 11 in a row, but the vibe is 2016 whenever they took over. If you could somehow find a way to be 44-1 at at the um at the break, at the at the by-week, then you come back and you’re at the Raiders on Monday Night Football. So, you’ll basically have like a twoe stretch where there’s no football. Get your bodies right, get your minds right, then you’re home. Your next two games are at home to the Eagles and the Chiefs. That’s your season. Like week 13, you’re done, right? But here’s the deal. You just explain this way. Potentially potentially done. So here’s the reason. You just explained the reason why Steven and Jerry will likely not make a trade. No. No. Now I want to say the trade deadline this year is week nine. Yeah, they’re okay. like they won’t trust this team to to for to fortify it. They won’t trust this team at that point. If they had won today, they might have. In other words, if they had stacked up and said, “Hey, we done won two in a row. We look good doing this two in a row and we got the the Washington Commanders and we probably beat them.” And they might do that. But no, I think if you find a way here, here’s here’s the only way the Cowboys make a move going into the B or going into week nine by the trade deadline. You have to beat the commanders of the Broncos. You have to. You have to. You have to. And then all And by the way, I think it was Willy Bully that said this or maybe it was you that said it. Jerry is probably going to do something to for the fans. That was Woolly. That was Willy Bully. He said, “Watch him make cuz that’s what how they brought in wide receiver last year. They just Mingo. They brought in Mingo through a bone to the fans. That’s it. Cuz they’re like the Cowboys never make a trade. They never Oh, here’s Mingo. See, we made a trade. Because in typical Jerry fashion, I mean, as he alluded to on his own documentary, you know, it’s a soap opera. And if there’s And if nothing’s going on, guess what? He’s going to stir it up. And while there was conversation about, okay, what is he going to do as far as a a a trade and and what what kind of conversations out there about what’s there to be had? But to your point, I don’t want on on one hand, would I love to see this team make a move, but on the other hand, please don’t squander the the the draft capital that you do have. Mhm. For a a player that you may not have after the end of this year or is 30 years old or 32. I mean, do you make a move for a Trey Hendrickson? I don’t know. I’m not giving up a first round pick for him. I can tell you that much. Mhm. And do we even think Trey I mean, is Trey Hendrickson going to make the is he going to be the the dealmaker? More than him. Yeah. Yeah. did more than him. Somebody’s got to be It’s going to take couple players, not just one. I think you would need a linebacker and a defensive end. And I’d get rid of Look, if I if I You clean house with some of these DNs that are rotations, man. I’m tell But here’s the problem though. Eva Flu, his whole off defense is rotating defensive ends, unfortunately. Well, hell, when you’re But but when you’re rotating guys that can’t get to the quarterback, what difference does it make? you know, I look, I I would trade as far and and you know, unfortunately, James Houston for as great as he’s been the last couple games, didn’t do squat today. Not at all. You know, now and again, he’s your third down situational pass rusher, which to your point, that’s what I flew likes to do. Just wasn’t in the cards for him today. Again, you had no pressure whatsoever. Five blitzes is how many blitzes the uh Dallas Cowboys ran today. Now, see that say say what you want about the personnel and whether or not this uh you know the defensive we can talk about the defensive line. We can talk about the linebackers. We can talk about how bad the safeties and and and secondary is that’s on Eberloose when you decide you’re only going to blitz five times. That’s right. You can play caller because oh by the way remember what were we told by Stephven Jones the day that on on on you can dial it up. You can scheme up a pass rush. Scheme it up. That’s what we were told the night of the Micah Parson’s trade. He sat there and told us that that’s what you can do and I flu is good at it. Yeah, we won’t miss him on the on the pass rush. We we we got and we got us a run better run defense now. I ain’t seen it. We ain’t seen it. By the way, speaking of synced it and being around the 903 says CA and Fred, will you guys have any more spec tailgate shows this year? That’s from Tim. Yes, we will. Not every Sunday. No, no, not every Sunday. Is it a gonna do a pregame too? Yeah. No, if they do if they play if they do a three if I know if it’s a noon game, we will do the postgame specs. Is it going to be a Specs pregame? Yeah. If if it’s if it’s the We’ll call Specs. If we do our 9 to noon, we still call the Specs tailgate cuz you can tailgate before or after. Yeah, exactly. Normally do. There you go. Tim told me that. Tim told me that. We’ll be here. One of the few times I actually listen to what he was saying. Not that I don’t. It’s just that I I actually retained it this time, you know. Oh, one other one. We got another text in a very important question. Yes. And maybe this is something we should ask Jacob as well. He’s a degenerate, right? He is a degenerate. Uh the total from the 913 says, “Can Washington put 50 points on the board Sunday against the Cowboys?” We’ll find out tomorrow. I mean, I mean, theor I was I was You took the word of my mouth. I mean, they don’t have Scary Terry right now. It don’t matter. at the quarterback. Daniels has been that good this year, though. I was going to say he’s he’s had he’s had his moments, but I Well, of course, that was Mike Zimmer that slowed him down last year, so never mind. Uh, real quick, let’s go out to Brandon and Troy. What’s up, Brandon and Troy? What’s up, Brandon? Hey, how’s it going? How’s it How’s it going in Detroit? Right down 35. Oh, you know what? It’s pretty peaceful and loud, but sorry to ask you how it’s going, but I wasn’t expecting to be on that fast. [Laughter] What you got on your mind, man? I just think it’s crazy. Uh, the defense did what we thought they were going to do, but I thought the offense could have could have came through that game. Well, for the most part, you know, they did for the most part, but it was just like we alluded to, man. When you needed that offense to step up, they kind of spit the bit for you. But that’s okay cuz uh you know there’s always next week. All right, final segment of the program. Uh and we will put a bow on this show. Don’t go anywhere. It’s a spec tailgate show. Pros don’t just show up, they prove how it’s done with precision and without shortcut. Remember when you used to be a what was it? A pepper lady. Pepper lady, wasn’t it? Cinnamon sisters. Those are squares. No. Step down. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. [Music] [Music] Hey. Hey. Hey. [Music] [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. N. [Music] full of people that you know they say to remember something, you have to forget something else. That is a very that’s like a little I’ve never seen before. Is that your name? No, I mean I’m not here. [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh. Oh. Oh. [Music] Oh, [Music] [Music] heat. Hey. Hey. [Music] Huh? Damn. What a what a finale, Jacob. What a finale. Uh, I see what you did there with the final segment of the program in the final lowlight of today’s game. And I’m creative like that. I I’ll tell you what, man. you’re, you know, I feel bad your your Cubs didn’t make it last night or whatever night it was. I was telling my dad that last night, too, and I was like, “You know what, Dad? To be completely honest with you, I only had Tech on. I was at work and had one thing to play on my phone, and I picked the Tech game.” So, I get it. I get it. Now, your boy Kyle Tucker said he unsure if he’s going to come back next year. I don’t want him back. Oh. Oh, no. No. After after the after the thumb injury, he was so checked out. He hit 266 and he didn’t do anything in the playoffs. M. So, get him out of here. Yeah, he can go get his 400 million with the Dodgers. We’ll go spend that money on pitchers. Thank you very much. I’m not mad at you for that. I mean, I look, there’s a reason why Jim Crane kicked him to the curb, you know. Uh, I kind of hope we try and go Kyle Schwarber back. That’s my hope. Uh, and then who is it? Uh, Pete Alonzo. He is a free agent as well. He’s going to ask for too much money, though. He wants seven years. He’s probably looking at 320 million. So, I’m good. Baseball needs to stop with the sevenyear deals, man. I mean, unless you’re Otani, I I I’m sorry, but but you know the Sodto deals, if you’re the Mets, you got to be kicking yourself for the Sodto deal. That might be one of the worst deals in sports history. All right, Matt in Fort Worth. What’s good, Matt in Fort Worth? Good evening, gentlemen. How are we doing today? Well, I mean, as good as can be. Not that Cowboys are two and one. Not that good. Yeah. All right. So, our defense is terrible. Our offense is above average. Um, we are in this is just more mediocre land. We’re going to be. So, what do we do about uh the running back situation? One-year deal. We can’t find running backs. Uh, it turns out Rico Dael is a stud elsewhere. Uh, he could be a stud here for cheap, but we can’t figure all that out. Uh 88’s going to come back and we’re going to win a few games that we shouldn’t and we’re going to get the 12th overall draft pick, the 15th overall draft pick, and we’re going to miss the playoffs. That’s how this plays itself out. All right, as a disillusioned Cowboys fan, that that that’s me and and that’s everybody listening, I think. Everybody who cares or or knows anything about it, we’re all that. So, how do we move forward? What do we expect out of the rest of this season? I’m I’m listening. Appreciate the call. In my way, I mean, I I He’s saying he just doesn’t trust him. And I understand. Yeah. He doesn’t trust him. Well, I mean, I think uh Matt, to your point, um it’s the proverbial, can you catch lightning in a bottle? That’s it. I mean, that that that’s the I mean, that’s what you’re hoping for. That’s what you’re hoping. Okay. You you know what this offense can do. you know that this is a a a good offense and again I want to say it’s a great offense and I think it could be great when CD comes back and you have your full compliment of stars again was just okay today you saw why he was a six round draft pick today you can see why he’s going to be a role player and he exactly now that’s all it is it’s only year two for him and and and so you know let’s let’s I don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater but for as dynamic as he looked last Sunday again he looked just okay today here’s the deal you Don’t expect him to be your dominant ex number one receiver. Nobody was ever hyping him to be that. But guess what? He showed you he could be a solid role player. So don’t get it twisted. We’re not hyping it more than that. Uh guys, just know that. No, I know. And I guess my thing is with, you know, offensively today, Pickkins showed you why Pickkins is one of the best wide receivers in football. Uh Jake Ferguson again had what, his what, fourth touchdown the last two games, three games, whatever it was. is I mean he looked good. Here’s his deal for those who need to know. He had his receiving touchdown. That’s four catches in 2025. The most for a Cowboys tight end in the first six games since uh Jason Whitten. Yeah. No, he’s he’s a catching machine right now. Let’s go to Boone in Dallas. What’s up Boon in Dallas? What’s up T Boone Pickings? Hello fellas, man. Uh another upsetting Sunday. Yeah. Um man, we off work Monday so we got time to recoup but we just don’t have a brand of football. uh we play down to our opponents and we we we’re not looking good for the playoffs. All these NLC losses and what the way the uh conference is looking, it’s not looking good. So, uh I think them guys need to have a real wakeup call over the week. Uh come out and get that win against Washington and try to turn this season around and go on some type of winning streak. But right now, it’s just not looking so good, man. Appreciate the call, Coach Bo. Boon, I mean, Boon’s just uh he’s just preaching truths over there is what he’s doing. Uh, again, you got to go two and one over these next three games. That’s that’s that’s that’s bottom line. You can’t go one one and one. And that’s what this Cowboy I could Would you be at all surprised if this team went one and one? Nope. Over the next three games? Again, we can’t trust them. You just got to see what happens. And could you imagine if this team was 3, four, and two? Could you imagine if this team was three, four, and two heading into the by-week? You just would not know what to think about them. It’ be the most bizarre record in the history of football. I mean, just like this. What? What are we? What is this team? Two ties. Who does that? Because I’m going tell you right now, this team was angling for another overtime game today. Mhm. They just defense couldn’t get out of its own damn way. Surprise, surprise. Ironically, the offense, as good as it was, like you said, you couldn’t make the play at the end of the game. They had only punted twice. That’s it. Only two three and outs the entire game. The first drive and then the last. How do we feel about Jamar Chase doing the gritty when you’re down a score? He’s from Louisiana. He’s from LSU. You got to give him that. That’s just what he does. Even when you’re losing, still strike the gritty is that’s what they do. Yeah. Who that? I get it. Um, no, you need you need to go two and one. And what rumor is rumor is you might get Tyler Booker back next week. Rumor is you might get CD Lamb back next week. Um, and then of course, you know, the scuttlebutt is that you’ll get Dear Overshon back earlier than expected. Well, they’re saying after the buy. I know. That’s early cuz expect it was like December. That’s early. I don’t But here’s the thing. I feel like we it’s it’s everything’s been just this big like you know kind of to your point being ambiguous. That’s what’s been ambiguous. The Demarian over shown like when’s he going to come back? We know he’s going to be on the pup list and we I don’t know what you’re going to get from him. Yeah. Well, we put it like this. You don’t know what you’re going to get from him. He might be he might have lost a step until he builds it up. He also may be completely healthy, but we don’t know how long he’ll stay healthy because like Sha Lee, who I loved back in the day, Sha Lee kept getting hurt and and it’s, you know what it is? It’s going to be watching Demar and Overshon is going to be like watching Anthony Davis. Yeah. Wondering how long he plays. You’re just sitting there, you know, you enjoy the good plays. You enjoy the the, you know, him being on the field and what he how he impacts the game. Mhm. But on the flip side of that, you’re saying to yourself, man, but the difference is unlike Anthony Anthony Davis this year, unlike Anthony Davis in the past and right where over is right now, Anthony Davis right now, you don’t need him to be great every game. He doesn’t have to carry the Mavericks, they got so much depth. And with Dear on Overshon, they don’t have any depth. You’re counting on him to change everything. No, they don’t. It’d be different if all you had was Anthony Davis with the Mavericks. That’s not like the case this year and de Marviano over if you hit all these other playmakers and the denity and the team from 2023. Yeah. You say, “Oh yeah, come on, man. We can take your time. Take your time. Take your time.” Uh, by the way, this is the Specs Tailgate Show. Specs Wine Spirits Finer Foods, proud partner of the Dallas Cowboys. Cheers to savings. Uh, we’ve got uh just we’ll go one we’ll we’ll do one quick uh rattle through the scores from today for those of you that are just checking in with us. And uh we hope we got you, man. We hope you’re having a wonderful day today. We hope you’re enjoying your Sunday Cowboy game. Maybe you won your fantasy game. Who knows? Uh again, and it’s been a long day of football, too. Let’s let’s call that what it is. Broncos beat the Jets 1311. Uh the Cardinals, they fall to the Colts 2731. Jacobe Versett, though, if you picked him up on a uh kind of on a flyer, 27 of 44, 320 yards, and two Tutties. Uh and then of course, Jonathan Taylor just continues to be the uh maybe the best back in the NFL right now. 21 carries, 123 yards, and a touchdown. Uh the Chargers, they outlast the Dolphins 29-27. And then Tua proceeds to go on a scorched earth conversation tour postgame. Uh and and decides to tell everybody that, hey, players aren’t showing up to players only meetings, and when they do, they’re late. So, I’m not really sure what two is doing at this point other than just saying, you know what, I don’t care. Trade me. And then you got Mike McDaniel wearing Capri pants to the uh postgame and that’s your first clue that he’s not a very good head coach. Uh the Patriots 25, the Saints 19, Steelers edge the Browns 23 to9. They’re on this uh the the Browns are giving up only 265 yards a game. One and five. The best number ever defensively for a one and five football team. Arlington Martin’s own Miles Garrett. Blake’s buddy. That’s Blake’s homeboy and he he’ll make sure to tell you 17 times. Uh, all right. Claymore in San Antonio, last call of the night. What you got, big man? Oh, man. I’m honored, man, to uh have the last call for the night. Hey, uh, I got a question. Can we make much out of uh Jerry Jones absence from the media? Uh, is Jerry Jones pissed off enough to make uh a change? Um, I guess for the defensive coordinator now, I get it. is probably not going to make much of a difference, but uh they got to start somewhere, right? Yep. I I know what you’re saying. And and by the way, I found this out from one of the beat riders. I used to go to all the Cowboys home and road games, but I haven’t because I’m not uh I’m not the insider anymore. Bobby Valdis, I think it was Bobby that told us that Jerry doesn’t speak after Cowboys losses on road games and on a win most of the time he does not really speak to the media. So, in other words, he might be mad, but he’s not more so mad. It’s not like this is the only time he hadn’t spoke after a road loss. Cuz I don’t He didn’t talk after the Chicago game, did he? No. There you go. Exactly. Jerry, you know what? That’s uh that’s self-regulation is what that is. Jerry knows. As Brian Brian Bruce put it, Jerry and Steven took Jerry’s plane home and they’re probably sipping on some Johnny Walker Blue. That’s it. Debating on what do we do? What do we do with all this uh draft capital we got? Maybe we’ll uh Well, I’ll put it like this. You talk about how uh there’s a the season this year, you don’t know what kind of team you got. It’s ambiguous. Yeah. Remember this. Jerry says, “I have a high tolerance for ambiguity.” Well, he better have a high tolerance for uh this defense getting its ass kicked cuz that’s what’s happening week in week out and something needs to be done, okay? Cuz this is getting uh this is getting a little cray cray. Uh ladies and gentlemen, you guys have been an absolutely phenomenal audience today as you are each and every day. No matter what, even if the Cowboys aren’t winning games right now, they still have the best fans in the world. There’s something to be said for that and that’s evident by all the folks that called in today. Uh some of you are glass half full, some of you are glasses empty and some of you have broken the glass and I completely understand that in frustration as well. So uh don’t forget full complement of programming here on 1053 the fan tomorrow morning kicks off with Shawn and RJ and then of course you have KC Gbag Cowboys Hour and then of course uh Fan After Dark with your boy Freddy D and Mr. for Blake Elliot taking you home for degenerate Jay for the threetime Hall of Famer. I’m Fred Davis. Good night. God bless. We’ll see you tomorrow. The more time you give, the more our crush grows. Together we continue to build something special. Keep turn. [Music]
