Cam Skattebo (aka Skatteblood) had a monster game against the Eagles:

• 21 touches | 110 total yards | 3 TDs
• 19 carries | 98 rushing yards
• 12 receiving yards | 5.1 YPC

Some context:

• First Giants player with 3 rushing TDs in a game since Ahmad Bradshaw (2011)
• Outscored the entire Eagles team (18 > 17)
• Season so far: 338 rushing yards, 155 receiving yards, 5 TDs

His background makes it even more impressive:

• Had 0 Power 5 offers and just 1 D1 offer (Sacramento State)
• Finished 5th in Heisman voting at ASU after putting up 2,300+ yards and 24 TDs

Falling to pick 105, the Giants got a real gem.

So Giants fans, when you watch Skattebo, who does he remind you of? For me, it’s Maurice Jones-Drew.

  1. Let’s see him get through a season before we anoint him the next great back. With his habit of running into things headfirst he could have a short career.

  2. They need a lighting to his thunder. As much as he has impressed me, I think the Giants would be smart to look for a complimentary RB and split the carries. Diversify the run game, limit the amount of hits, and keep him healthy.

  3. I’m gonna say something I know is crazy, but I’d rather have Brian Burns and Skattebo than Saquon right now (money is about the same).

Skattebo actually does what you need a running back to do – he gets you a few yards every time. Saquon is boom or bust, if you want that, throw the ball. Saquon works on the Eagles because they don’t need him in short yardage with the tush push, which is good because he’s really not good at that part of the game. Skattebo is not better than Saquon obviously, but at like 1/20 the cost he saves you money to get Brian Burns.
