So first off, an obligatory Fuck the Blue Jays. But as a Yankees fan this is just stomach turning.
Seattle played a 5 hour 15 inning epic on Friday night to beat Detroit, then had to jump on a plane and fly across North America to face a rested and ready Toronto Blue Jays team on Sunday night that had the lowest K rate and highest team BA in MLB this season.
Because they'd used everyone they had (and I mean everyone) just to get there Seattle had to start Bryce Miller in GM 1, a pitcher with an fWAR of 0 and bWAR of -0.8 over 90 innings this year. I was expecting Toronto to buzzsaw through the Mariners they same way they'd done to the Yankees and that is not what happened. Yes, the Jays did play them tough and it took Seattle a while to break through but they eventually did and managed to steal a big game in the series.
If the Yankees don't make any significant additions to their starting rotation this off-season and just go with the same guys that rolled over for Toronto in the ALDS that's a major sign that this team is not serious about winning championships.
I'm sure there are many people that think Gerrit Cole is going to come back in June and save the day for the Yankees but he's 1 guy and he can only pitch 1 or maybe 2 games in a 7 game playoff series, that's it. The rest of the staff has to be great too! Cashman has got to rebuild our team for next October.

Not surprised. Wouldn’t shock me if the Jays get smashed in this series tbh
Lay it all out for the ALDS and then whimper through the ALCS
>that’s a major sign that this team is not serious about winning championships.
I could have explicitly told you the team isn’t serious about winning championships when they put together this roster a year ago.
The Blue Jays played better than the Yankees. That doesn’t mean they’re a very good team. Only game 1, but it already seems like beating the Yankees was their World Series. They’re still chirping about it in their pre-game videos.
Love to see it
Yankees was the jays World Series. Mariners in 5
Beautiful. Fuck the Jays.
I guess it’s the Etsy witch magic and power of friendship (wish we had this!)
The way we built our team I don’t think would fly in New York. We can’t just open our wallet every off-season to sign the most expensive free agent. Most of our talent we brought up through the farm system this time. We moved away from big free agent signing and spread the talent across the whole lineup.
Hate to see it 😂 get fucked Blue Jays!
Id love to know who you think theyre signing to a rotation that already pays Fried Rodon and Cole big money, and who they’re taking out of the rotation to do so. We already have a starting 5 next year of Fried Schlittler Rodon Gil Warren, with eventually someone being bounces to the pen or minors for Cole. (Also I put Schlittler at 2 to split up the lefties, nothing more, nothing less). The biggest spot to upgrade this lineup in the offseason is SS. Otherwise build a real pen.

Got downvoted to hell by /r/baseball for asking why doesn’t Vlad put the same effort against other teams he does against the Yankees loll
Its the belief which comes from decent management and back office. Its one thing to get decent players, another thing to get them to perform at their best, which is something Boone has never achieved at Yankees and Cashman hasn’t since 2000
I am not enthusiastic about the position players available in free agency this year.
I think the Yankees should target a veteran pitcher in free agency, and then trade one or more of their homegrown pitchers for position players.
A homegrown pitcher not named Schlittler, obviously. He’s off the table.
Warren, Schmidt, Gil and prospects should be on the table to improve multiple weak positions.
What the Blue Jays did to the Yankees was Impressive, but it’s unsustainable.
You had guys like Clement, Varsho, Schnieder, and Guerrero with OPS above 1.000. They were playing out of their shoes; you can’t keep that up for more than a few games.
They also got ice-cold during stretches where they barely scored.
Mariners have the better pitching, and Jays not having Bichette is huge in a series like this.
Daaaaaa Blue Jays lose
It’s one game. Don’t count them out yet.
Yankees should have won 100+ games this year with the team Cashman built. The Yankees need to dump Aaron Boone. He’s too soft and is a disaster with the bullpen. Zero input on player development as well. The coaching staff is soft and useless.
Yeah it’s one game. But I will also say that Jays were the worst possible matchup for the Yanks. Sometimes another team just has the other team’s number and it sure felt that way with the Jays this year especially in Toronto.

I’d bet that they’ve watched more Yankee tape than Seattle
Just like they joked about us beating the Red Sox being our World Series, I’m pretty sure the Jays boasting about beating the Yankees was their World Series.
