Mike Shildt just retired

  1. Well damn. Thanks for everything, Mike, it’s been a fun couple of years.

    Now what?

  2. I’m sad. He is my favorite of the managers that we have had in the recent past. But I don’t blame him. There’s many openings right now.

  3. I feel a great disturbance in the force. As if millions of sacrifice bunts cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced…

Bunts aside I did like Shildt and it sucks to see him go.

  4. Sucks but the padres need to find a manager that isn’t afraid to change up the lineup especially when it’s not working. There was an optimal line up in 2025, what he wanted to throw out was not it.

I hope he enjoys his retirement and I appreciate him bringing us to the playoffs in 24 and 25

  5. I would not be surprised to see him take on a role as a senior advisor in a couple years assuming his health is ok. He seemed stressed out to the bone as manager.

  6. WTF. That’s actually given me chills. Dude I thought he’d definitely stick with the boys

  7. Wow, that’s a bummer.

As also a Twins fan, I hope they do NOT look at Rocco Baldelli as an option. It looks like he’s being considered for a few teams. Padres can and should do better than Rocco.

  8. What!? You’ve got to be kidding me. We finally after more than a decade get the guy… and he retires?

  9. lol shit. He wasn’t perfect but I think he was a really solid manager for this team.

  10. Whoa. Definitely didn’t have that on the bingo card

His fortified-in-stone top of the order frustrated the hell outta me this season, but overall, I appreciated Shildt.

He’s among the older managers in the league but 57 is still young. So I hope this was retirement for retirement sake and nothing else. All the best to him.

…Man, I hate the period of having to find and get settled with a new manager

  11. I know he had his faults but I had a lot of fun having Shildty in charge. So refreshing to have a guy with a bit of fire in him after the Melvin years. Hope he’s ok and appreciative of the back to back postseason berths

  12. this bums me out, certainly disagreed with how he managed sometimes, but he was a really good manager, certainly the best the padres have had in recent memory, hope everything is alright. sort of nervous to see where we go from here.

  13. This better not be another “isnt on the same page as the Front Office” deal because that shit is getting tired.

  14. Im actually upset over this..I really liked him over tingler and bomel and I thought I read the other day we were going to extend him. ☹️ I don’t think the manager was our issue and I’m hoping it’s not because of the lack of results because we got further with him than anyone else in recent times. Hope he’s okay, too healthwise.

  15. So let me get this straight. You sign an extension with the club 11 months ago to stay through 2027, come off back-to-back 90+ win seasons and playoff appearances, have a rabid fanbase, you’re not even north of 60 years old when many managers have managed for far longer and you say deuces?

I’m obviously speculating here, but unless later reports come out sighting health or family issues, I think this reflects more on the organization than it does Mike and that’s not good.

  16. Oh now yall OMG hope
He’s ok and whyyy??? MFERS Yall were calling him a bum and he should go all dam season .GTFOH with your fake feelings

  17. Shildt just left $8M on the table, don’t think it was a retire or get fired scenario as if you are getting fired might as well get the $8M
