[Yakyu Cosmopolitan] The Yomiuri Giants will likely agree to post 1B/3B Kazuma Okamoto to MLB this offseason. Okamoto, 29, would be the 1st position player ever posted by Yomiuri. This season, he slashed .327/.416/.598 (212 OPS+) with 15 HR in 69 games.
I feel like 1B/3B is pretty low on the priority list.
Those spots should be taken by Rice and McMahon next season.
I like Okamoto over Murakami. A little older but he has good defense at 1B and is playable if needed at 3B; Murakami is a minus at both positions. And he’s a legit slugger with good plate discipline.
a 29yo “1B/3B” is not going to solve this team’s problems, and would probably only create more
We need him. Very low strikeout rate, good defense, and rakes. Righty bat to complement McMahon and Rice.
Hideki Matsui also played for the Giants, but he seems to have avoided the posting system via free agency.
Can he play SS?
Get both okamoto and murakami
He’s like the Japanese Isaac Paredes. Raw power is okay but he is great at pulling fly balls to left.
Which is just not a fit for YSII.
This guy doesn’t strikeout enough to be a Yankee
Guy is gonna end up in LA anyway
Always 100% for grabbing these Asian bats. Always disciplined w great contact skills
How will he make Fried and Rodon not pitch bad in the same week?
Because that’s why the Yankees got knocked out.
the team’s problems are organizational. i dont think it really matters who they sign tbh
Honestly dont see it as a big need. McMahon is under contract for 2 more years. Rice should be the starting first baseman next year, and I’d welcome Goldschmidt back if the price is right and he is ok with a reduced role.
Decisions, decisions, the Yankee front office will have to make. BUT sadly, are they even close to competent enough to make the right ones during the hot stove season????
