Jets offense was ‘below non-functional’ in loss to Broncos | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
There’s a number of guys that, you know, I mean, sometimes this this league is like this and there are guys that have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench them. Come on, you know better than that. Everybody’s played a role in that. So, it’s not just Justin cuz I understand where you guys are trying to take this. But listen, there’s a number of of other guys that, you know, got to pick their game up, too. So, I don’t want to sit there and pin this all on Justin. Aaron Glenn, first year coach of the Jets after yesterday’s loss to the Broncos in London. That was just some of it, too, because as the question was being asked initially, he just jumped in. Yeah. Come on, man. You know better than that, right? What kind of question is that, right? It’s a fair question. Perfectly normal question for week six in the NFL and your offense has looked like kaka bam. The Jets offense was below nonfunctional yesterday. Net passing yards of minus 10 because when you take the 45 that they actually gained and you subtract the 55 they lost on nine sacks. Nine times. Nine times. Nine times. My wife after I said that on the football night in America show, she’s like, “Do you think everybody got your first Borth thing?” Anytime you have to explain it, they don’t get it. It’s a reference from 1986. I know. I know. But but like we’re having the conversation in the room yesterday. You can’t make Seinfeld references anymore because the vast majority of the population doesn’t know what the hell they are, which is sad. No doubt. You’re right. It is. It is. But but as we’re sitting here talking about this is also sad, right? And I think the thing too and like what you see and listen some of these are Yeah. The pressure is there in a hurry. But there’s a number of plays here too where you go this is not bad. At some point you got to throw the ball. The guy up the top of the screen was open. You got to let it go. Hold the ball too. talk is not bad. There’s a guy on the shallow cross that’s open right there. Kerb Warner tried to allude to this in a tasteful way throughout the day yesterday. Overly diplomatic. Overly diplomatic. Call the guy out. He holds the ball too long. Call the Jets out. They gave the guy 2 years 40 million. M. Jones got two years 8 million. Daniel Jones got one year 14 million. What the hell are the Jets thinking giving this guy $40 million on a 2-year deal? Okay, that’s a fair question. I mean, this is big boy football. We’re allowed to be critical. Exactly. Right. And there was a number of plays where I know you were watching the game. I was watching the game. They’ show the replay and you go, “Yeah, that guy’s open. I don’t know what he’s looking at. He’s looking at the rush. He’s not looking downfield. It has not been good quarterback play. We had week one good quarterback play surprised us after that. It’s been the worst in football.” I would I think they’re crazy not to think about benching Justin Fields. There is nothing that that locker room is going to le like leech on to right now and go, “Oh, we’re close with Justin Fields.” Latch or leech or whatever. Yeah, you’re right. Leech kind of does latch. Leech does latch latches on. A leech does latch. Yeah. Right. Right. So, there’s nothing that the leeches in the locker room will latch on right now because yes, they’re going what’s what’s there to look at? What’s positive? I mean, what what is it? Even on plays where he wasn’t pressured and we can show the last few throws of the game, he’s got no pressure. He can’t hit out routes. So, what Garrett Wilson wide open, right? So, the ball’s all over the place. Stop laughing at me. You ever see Stand by Me? Yeah. Yeah. The leeches. Leech can latch on to certain things. You don’t want a leech to latch on to. You might want to check underneath underneath your underwear. Watch out, Gordy. All right. So, anyway, God, it’s great to be eight years old. Um, yeah, it’s just bad. It’s bad. And last year, the embarrassing loss to the Vikings got Robert Salah fired. Yeah. Right. Because it’s a big deal for Woody because he was the ambassador to the UK. This was more embarrassing. Agreed. Like, where are we Woody? Where are we one year later? You’re in a worse spot. And it’s his own fault because he got in and he meddled when he shouldn’t have meddled. And I’m I’m not suggesting that he fire Aaron Glenn, but you know, we have the Ultimate Jets fan around us all the time for better or worse. You know, he acted like they won the Super Bowl after the block field goal against the Buccaneers a few weeks ago. And yesterday he’s like, “I’m done. I’m out. I’m already ready.” James Kaminsky, one of the producers, I’m he’s ready to move on from Aaron Glenn. So, you just wonder what what Woody Johnson and then he was in a real bad mood because, you know, Giants fans came in happy. So, he didn’t like that and he was mad about that. It’s not unprecedented though, right? Coaches had been fired during their first year on the job. Yeah. Didn’t Frank Reich, as David Ter said, it wasn’t he first year on the job. Was it first year on the job? Yeah, I believe. You’re right. You’re right. Yeah. I don’t expect that to happen and I hope that doesn’t happen like like you’ve heard me say again we’ve seen a lot of good coaches start off really bad right Dan Campbell Kyle Shanahan they all started their careers off in bad ways but I think also within that you got to show some positive signs or some excitement with your football team and some hope that way and that’s what I feel like the Jets are missing right now defense played better yesterday so they can hang their hat on that but the offense is going in the wrong direction. And for the modern-day NFL of 2025, Justin Fields is a below average thrower and passer of the football. Period. That’s just the way it is. It’s the funkiest throwing motion in football. It’s the weirdest throwing motion in football. If you’re going to hold the ball too long, that is part of how you are assessed. Exactly. Right. You’ve got to get rid of the ball. Definitely. And definitely. and especially get rid of the ball on a day where you’re playing the team that has the most sacks in the NFL by a wide margin. There should be even more urgency in your brain going into a game like that of like, man, I’m going to have some plays today where I got to know where to get it out. Where do I where can I get it out when all else fails? And that’s part of being a quarterback. Wait, if this guy beats this guy, where’s my get out of jail free card? Is there a shallow cross? Is there a quick out route? ers are back running out that I can just get the ball out to limit the negative plays and you just don’t see that with the Jets and it’s it’s man that was about as bad as I mean the game was there for them to win yesterday the Broncos were not impressive stuff there was still a chance to win the game still a chance to win the game the Broncos and what happened fourth down held the ball too long held the ball too long a few throws before that ball behind the receivers to Garrett Wilson and and plays where you go that’s a slam dunk completion in the NFL so I think the Jets are going to have to evaluate that one long and Hi, it’s Mike Florio. I know it’s not ideal to fire a head coach after one year, but it’s preferable to hanging on to someone who is the wrong choice. Let’s face it,we don’t have a reputation to defend, it’s already in the toilet and our owner has already been voted worst owner in football.Have been a Jets fan fan for over fifty years and have told my kids that I will hang on until my team goes to the superbowl. “ Great” they say, “ that means you’ll have a super long life. I have now come to my senses, a playoff appearance is okay these days.
I wake up in the morning hoping that my mind is mysteriously altered and that I am now a fan of another team, at this point ANY other NFL team – I’ve stopped being picky.
I laugh at the “whimps” who complain about 10-20 years of losing-What the heck do they no about suffering?
Not even a college football fan, but I remember watching a few series of OSU over the years when Fields was at the helm. He seemed so calm, cool and collected, I dont get how he's not having more success in the NFL.
Justin Fields gets paid $20 million a year. My son has down syndrome.
EVERY team that Justin Fields might eventually end up on should tell him this : "You will be a WR/RB, or we're never signing you." Facts are facts.
Isnt this the coach that said "If you make mistakes that cost us the game you will not be on the field"? Cut the player who messed up in the 1st game of the season. Fraudulent
Love the movie references 😂
Glenn is defensive of Fields because this is the guy he wanted. But the reality with Fields is that he may win you some games with his legs but he'll lose you a lot more with his arm and his head and that's not changing.
It is frustrating that nobody remembers fields at Chicago. All the sacks, misread, trying to make something out of nothing. Not to mention he won a national championship during COVID. Most of the college teams weren't playing. So really there is nothing here. So go ahead keep him play him, because at this point you might as well get a #1 pick out of him
This is an non NFL team
But I thought Aaron Rodgers was the problem. 😅
Glenn is lost he knows it now we all do to fire him now don't waste more time
Miss Richard Todd to Wesley Walker, Freman McNeil, Ken O' Brien, Al Toon and The Sack Exhange.
Leech 😂
they played so well in first game vs steelers, but have got worse as season wore on,
How do the Jets keep hiring these horrible coaches that can't even answer a legitimate football question in a press conference.
Jets and titans have the worst coaching. Players don't forget how to play
I hope the Jets go 0-17 😂😂😂😂😂
Kurt Warner is too nice to be honest.
Glen wrecked the team in ONE week when he threw out two HOF players–Adams and Rodgers. And those guys were playing lights out at the end of the year, and that is why the players protested when they let Rodgers go. He replaced them with a RB playing QB! LMAO And right now, Rodgers and Adams are lighting it up!
Fields if you watch the tape wasn't good in college. OS team inflated him to look great. Sadly, he's still the same QB he was in college, not good. Add in he got drafted in a bad place. Then ended up now in a bad place didn't help him either. Not sure why the Jets could long as this guy's NFL tape and say, "Yeah let's sign this get for 40 over two years to be our starter." It was never going to work.
4 rookie head coaches in Woody's tenure.. it's his business model.. he's a con artist
I'm sitting here dumbfounded by Justins play yesterday. I really don't know what to say.
Can Fields just admit he's a runningback that can sometimes throw? There's nothing racist about that comment. If he would just admit to being a runningback, he'd be one of the best runningback's in the game.
Fields made mistake of going to teams with Defensive Head Coaches! People warned him that he should have gone to a team with an offensive coach!
The locker room wants Justin benched
Aaron Glenn so far is a bad NFL head coach. He may know how to blow a whistle but he can’t coach up the guys and he doesn’t get it. He does not know how to present himself to the nation as a football coach.
Justin Fields is not a professional quarterback. He was benched last year with a winning record.
When teams are consistently bad like the Jets, it becomes painfully obvious the front office and ownership are the problem given how many different coaches and QBs they go through with zero results.
So happy the world is seeing what my beard saw for three years.
As a gifted of an arm this guy has it means nothing. Hes a very bad quarterback tbh
I dont think sean was even trying against the jets especially trying to stay healthy. So its understandable the offense play. Plus the reffs dont help either.
