Analyzing the biggest BUYERS & SELLERS ahead of the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline 🤔
with the NFL on CBS and Paramount+. Three weeks from tomorrow, Tuesday is the NFL trade deadline, so let’s play a little. Buyers and sellers. Jonathan Jones is going to give us a buyer. Ran Carthon going to match them up with a player to fit that buyer’s needs. So let’s jump into it. We’ve got ran here on set. JJ is with us as well. And JJ got the Eagles logo behind me. You’ve got the defending champs that have lost two straight games. Why are they a seller and who do they need. What kind of player do they need. Well the Eagles need a couple of things. They need an edge rusher. Yeah. No I understand what you’re saying. And I think the folks at home there was enough context around good context clues. Everyone’s smart. The the Eagles need an edge rusher and they need a cornerback. They need some help defensively. They have one of the youngest defenses in the entire NFL. A lot of their pass rushers have moved on via retirement, like Za’darius Smith earlier today like Brandon Graham, or have gone on to other teams in free agency. Meanwhile, we know that Quinyon Mitchell is the guy on the outside corner. But what about the other cornerback position for the Eagles? They have not been able to fill that, and it hasn’t worked out for them ever since week one really for the Eagles. And so because of that, those are going to be the two spots for the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles. You can talk about the offense and all the infighting that’s going on. They need more personnel help on the defensive side. Yeah. And for me to to put names to that right. So you’re looking at and JJ hit is the Darius Smith just announced his retirement today at a position where you already needed help. And so it becomes an even bigger need. So what how we swing for a guy like Trey Hendrickson in knowing and understanding where the Bengals offense or or season is at this point, and then being able to get a guy who’s on a one year deal that you can keep around long term, potentially to help shore up that that need on the edge and then at corner, a name that stood out to me as I was going through rosters was Jaire Alexander, who was on a one year deal in Baltimore. He’s going to be a free agent after the season is over. Because I looked at it, it was either him or Marlon Humphreys, and it’s just be really hard to get out of Marlon Humphrey’s contract. So Jaire Alexander is a name that I would mention just off the top of your head. What do you think the Eagles would have to give up for a Trey Hendrickson, for instance? It would be a third round pick or so because you’re taking on his contract. Could be a fourth, a fourth with a chance to become a third based on his production. Because you are taking on this cap number in which Cincinnati added more money on this year. All right. Let’s move on to another team that might be out there buying before the deadline in in three weeks. And I mean, there are teams that get bit by the injury bug. JJ and then there are teams that have been swallowed whole by that bug. And the 40 niners fit that bill. Yeah. Quite a large bug here for the San Francisco 40 Niners who before Fred Warner’s injury they needed edge. Rush help right. Nick Bosa goes down with that ACL. They needed edge rush help before he went down with the ACL. They certainly needed it after that fact. But teams aren’t willing to just part with really good edge rushers. And of course we know as evidenced by just this moment ago, they’re going to be in competition with other teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps the Baltimore Ravens. If they still feel that they have a window for an edge rusher. And what is making it even more crucial is that they’re not going to get a replacement for Fred Warner at the insider. Excuse me? Inside linebacker position. That middle linebacker position. No one out there is like Fred Warner. And so it becomes even more imperative to be able to affect the passer. And so that’s why, even more than before Fred Warner’s injury now especially the Niners need to go get some help and a name. I want to just have everyone keep an eye on is Arden Key, who’s an outside linebacker edge for the Tennessee Titans. Obviously they just let go of their head coach today. He is a guy that’s on an expiring contract and he played there in 2021 where he resurrected his career. Playing it wasn’t for Robert Saleh, but it was under Demeco Ryans, but it was under defensive line coach Chris Kozarek. And so that’s a name to keep an eye on there because he gives you an edge presence. But he also made his hey rushing inside, which will then allow them to continue to bring along Michael Williams and have Bryce Huff on the field at the same time. All right. Teams with injury issues like the 49 ers really looking to add and maybe multiple places before this deadline three weeks away. And we have multiple buyers for our next one JJ. And it’s in the same division at the same position with the Chargers and Chiefs. God’s position. Yeah. How about this. How about some running back help for both of these teams. Now look it certainly seems that after their respective performances in week six, they don’t need running back help as much. But Amari and Hampton going on injured reserve. We saw what Vidal was able to do yesterday for the Chargers. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs. This offense appears to be humming right, and they are very excited about getting Rashee rice. Remember all that talk about they were going to trade for a wide receiver. They haven’t wanted to trade for a wide receiver. None of that was true. But could they use some running back help? Isaiah Pacheco we’re still waiting on him to get back to that old pre fractured fibula. Isaiah Pacheco You still have Kareem Hunt but right now still six games through the season Patrick Mahomes remains the leading rusher for the Kansas City Chiefs. So if this is a team that is going to do something running back because running backs are fungible, that’s probably a day three pick for either or both of these teams. Ahead of the November 4th trade deadline. And I resent your comment, JJ and you talk about running backs, but it’s true. I’ll say this. I don’t think that they would be willing to go spend a day three pick Quality players that fit your offense. But if you’re going to go out and you’re going to go trade for a back, that you can take your offense to the next level. If you’re the Chiefs and I’m speaking solely on the Chiefs, Breece Hall will give you an explosive component. Now, the one thing that makes this one an iffy one is if you’re the New York Jets. And I understand that they’re winless at this point. The message that you send your locker room by trading a player of the Breece Hall caliber, you’re telling your offense that you’re cashing the season in, which is a bad message. Even if that’s not your tone and you’re getting a good compensation back, that’s going to be the message that permeates throughout the locker room, because they’re seeing one of their better players get shipped off. And so there and then I thought about Alvin Kamara. We talked about that earlier. But just taking a look at the contract. You’d have to pull some magician stuff that only a guy like Kyle Harley in New Orleans is able to do to make that dead cap number go down. So you really have to be creative to move on from him. But if the Chiefs are want to swing for the fence, Breece Hall would be a name to go after. Okay. Final year of his his rookie deal. One of those guys in his draft class. One of the few really the top running back picks that hasn’t signed a long term deal.
