CONDENSED GAME: Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – 10/13/2025

Today it’s another Atlantic Division matchup as the undefeated Bruins welcome in the winless Tampa Bay Lightning here to town. Hello again everybody along with Andy Brickley. I’m Jud Surat. Thanks for joining us. Brick. During training camp, head coach Marco Sturm said, “If you look at the Bruins, the way they’re currently constituted, we don’t have the same amount of skill as some of the other top teams in the Atlantic Division like the team that they’re going to face today here in the Tampa Bay Lightning. But at the same time, he believes if the Bruins played a structured hard game, they can beat teams like that. And that’s going to be the challenge here today. Winning streaks are fun. So enjoy the moment. You know, you start with three in a row. You score first. Your power plays helping you win games. That offense that might not be there compared to other teams with other kinds of rosters. You can still win hockey games by the way you play. So don’t lose sight of that fact. The winning formula is there. But this may be the toughest test of the first four games of the season. Yonis Johansson will make his first start of the season. You can see his numbers from last year in 19 games. 96 and three and 313 goals against an 895 save percentage. At the other end, Yonas Corposal making his second start of the season. He made some glittering stops in overtime in the home opener. stopped 21 of 24 to pick up that overtime victory over the Blackhawks. Makavoy had it swiped. Countering now is Gonzelli [Applause] tipped it home and the Lightning out to an early one- nothing lead. Well, some indecision by Charlie Makavoy right around his own defensive blue line leads to a turnover. What could have been a potential break in the puck just kind of squirts towards the boards, but Tampa’s going to make a nice play. Bruins are up ice cuz you have possession. You thinking offense and now there’s an overcommit to the puck. That means the trailers open. This is kind of reminiscent of what Chicago was able to do to Boston. And that’s just a perfect play. Well executed Lai in coverage. You got to eliminate the stick of Celli. That’s a layup. First time in four games the Bruins had not scored first. What a pop from Geeki. This one deflects all the way down. Corposal settles it. Dished it to the corner. Zidora picked off. Celli who has the game’s only goal. Celli again shoots. He scores. Anthony Celli, two goals and a two nothing lead for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yeah, this starts with the decision to try to go up the middle of the ice on the break up as Adidora gets picked off again. You know, we go back to the first goal, you have possession, you have a little indecision with the puck, and when a puck turns over, now you’re in trouble because you don’t have enough bodies back and you’re not in good position. Now, even though the play doesn’t develop immediately, you’re still a little lost in coverage as to who’s got who, where are we, how we sorting this out, where’s the help supposed to be if the two defenseman are aggressive down below the goal line. Things happen quickly in this league. Sharelli takes that pass from behind the net. Catch and release. Glove side, sets to Arvin through center. Shot is by Zaka. Couple of decent looking looks here in the last minute of the play. Yeah, better than decent. Now points stripped to the puck. Bruins send it ahead with 10. Zaka Arbitson took a shoulder from Moser. This puck hops out. Now Hegel with two. Send it across just wide on the shot coming in from Coocher. And that’s going to close out the opening 20 minutes here at TD Garden. Bruins almost had one of those good things happen for them, Brick, at the tail end of the first. Yeah, we’re looking for this kind of surge right here. It’s going to start off the rush. Boston’s going to find Geeky. Pulls up, finds Mackoy for the one-time. Mosanak gets a piece of it. And then Pavo Zach, I think he had his stick just bothered right there on the back check by Hegel cuz he’s in a prime scoring area. And a nice little feed from Arvidson. So, a decent last minute and a half for Boston. Hopefully that’s something they can build off in order to get back into this hawking game on the scoreboard. Love by Homer. Jano leaning on him and the Bruins hack it ahead. Don’t get it out. However, Homerg out in front. Spins it and they score. Yanni Gourd. An easy one after the Bruins fail to clear. Three nothing Lightning. Well, once again, possession for Boston. Carrying the puck up the wall. Looks like they’re going to get an easy exit out of the defensive zone. And there’s a turnover. Mismanaged the puck. Slides off the stick. They try to bat a puck down. Ends up being a perfect pass for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Right to Homeberg. And Homeberg gets real creative. He draws Corposal over to the back end. And then he spins it right around to a wide open Yanni Go. His pass played off the wall. And now Middlestad has it to Zaka. Arbitson. Middlestat shoots. He scores. Casey Middlestad sift it off the post and the Bruins on the board trailing 3-1. Well, good things happen when you execute, when you manage the puck, and you make plays tape to take. I mean, this is basically a threeon three and the Bruins take advantage of loose coverage by Tampa. Tampa felt pretty confident going up three nothing early in the second period. This was the line on the ice for Tampa that did the damage in the first period, but the Bruins enabled that line. The boys talked about it in between periods. They’re good, but they got enabled in that first period. And then the Bruins come right back with the Middlestad line. One pass, two pass, three pass. Buried. Beautiful shot by Middle from a little bit of distance. Walker side posted in. Good response after the Yanni Gord goal. Now Homer races back with Makavoy. Not up in the corner. Makavoy being held up. We play on froer shoots save rebound they score that puck skittered off of Corposello to a wide open near post and it looked like panis homeberg easily potted it and the Bruins trail 4-1. [Applause] [Music] Well, it’s just kind of a chip and chase got a play by Tampa. There’s a one-on-one battle. Homeberg and Makavoy. Crowd wanted a holding call on Homeberg. Didn’t happen, but the Bruins get a little scrambly in the defensive zone. There’s been some breakdowns in coverage. Watching pucks, not eliminating not eliminating your checks, not eliminating sticks. Now, Cooerov across to point blocked by Harris. Score by Harris played it up the wall and it’s tapped to head. Twoon one. Harris with Saka. Harris shoots. He scores. The catch from Ail low to the blocker side. His first is a Bruin. And the Lightning lead now at four to two. Yeah, John Cooper is living living at his team right now. You know, you go up three nothing, you give up the Bruins, give the Bruins a goal right back at 3-1. Then you go back up 4-1 to say, “All right, we got this game. We’re totally controlled.” And then you get a bad pinch by Churn at the wrong time. And the Bruins with a nice little touch pass by Posanok two-on-one with Harris leading the rush. They overplay the pass. He reads shot and he goes short side like Middlestat on Johansson. Bruins back within two in the first period plus ahead. Chopped in by Geeki. Quick changes as Gonzalz plays it and just got running by Porn. Oh, he set him up and knocked him down. [Music] And now everybody comes together at the near point in the Bruins end. scoring for 531 by Andrew Peak and Gonovas looking down and drilled him. Zaka out there with Geeki fired. They score off another clean face off when Morgan Geeki whistles it by Johansson. It’s a onegoal hockey game. And this is the Morgan Ginky we saw the entire second half last year. Confident with a shot mentality right off the draw. Zaka with another big play. The little things that he does, the details in his game. No matter what position he’s playing, he’s able to win this puck right back behind him. A set play really. I’m going to try to win this right through my skates. You come off that hash mark in a shooting position and rip it glove side. 4-3. Chernack to Borkstream. He said lovingly. He did. Chernack send it out in front. Corpus a point blank save on Holberg. That was huge to keep it a onegoal margin. Harbertson ripped it in. Gourd to Moser now to Gourd bothered by Middle Wrapped around and that’s going to do it for this period as Zidora has the horn sounded with a little bump on Borkstrand and the tempers flare here again. We’ve seen this a few times during the first 40 minutes [Music] and now things are starting to settle down but Brick the Bruins forged their way back into the game scoring three times in that second period. Yeah, just a one thought on I mean Zidora playing on the buzzer. Got to like that. Good body contact on York. Host 125 left. He’ll hammer it on goal. Johansson gave it away. Harbertson sent it around. Nobody was at the point. Coach Rob sent it back out to center ice. How is that not an offside makes the save anyway Zaka shutters deflected back of the net it goes just under a minute remaining for Bruins back there trying to get that puck Lynholm shoveled it up top little room shoots blocked here’s Cooer out at center ice Astronaut. He just buried him with a check. [Music] Bruins are still alive with 35. [Applause] Glisten to the garden. Lynholm. Arbitson. Shoot. Johansson. Same. Rebound. No Hudson. It’s stopped back door at the far post and then Arbitson gets locked up with Point. point wants to drop the gloves as does Harbertson. The linesman sandwiched in the middle [Music] [Applause] [Music] makes a hit on Makavoy. Referee felt that Makavoy kind of spun. So no hit from behind this play. almost looked offside. Heel thinks he’s got a short goal, but David Posak playing next. 71. Looked like a goalender making that stop. Pos then hit Coov with a big hit just prior to that. And then here’s the last opportunity. Talk about rebounds. That’s why I said Zidorov coming down the other side. Should have done exactly that as well. Harson tries it. The Brewers get a second chance opportunity. Johansson’s there though. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Chipped into the slot. The Lightning have it. They’ll bang it back into the Bruins zone. This is going to flow wide. And the Lightning going to hang on and pick up their first victory of the season. Your final here today, the Lightning four and the Bruins three as Yonis Johansson made 30 saves to pick up his first victory in his season debut. And Brick Wall was a gritty effort by the Bruins to forge their way back into the game. John Cooper said something heading into this game that sticks out. This is a hard league to win when you spot the other team three goals. That’s what happened to the Bruins today. Yeah, spot on. and uh too many easy goals. I mean, you think about the four that they scored, three were layup variety. I might even make all four of them layup variety. When you come right down to it, the breakdowns by Boston in the defensive zone really cost them in this hockey game. When you play a team that’s sick of losing, they only lost twice, but they hadn’t won yet this regular season. So, they wanted to come in and win a hockey game. They played like it. They got the lead.

  1. And back to Earth – sloppy sloppy – and that's at home before the long trip. Bruins already lost this game 4 minutes into second! Allowing opponent to score just 1 minute into the both periods!

  2. Shitty loss, but also some lucky wins so far. We wont know what we really have for a team until the end of the month. With that said, I dont believe many games will be exiting to watch this year, accept for Pasta and hopefully Swayman. They're a defensive team with a great goalie….that can't score very much. 🤷‍♂️
