THE CANUCKS ARE FALLING APART… ELIAS PETTERSSON JUST MADE IT WORSE + QUINN HUGHES BLUES

[Music] Oh man, that’s it. I turned the game off. It’s 52 now, folks. And the Vancouver Conucks are going to lose to the St. Louis Blues in a game that I’m going to say really doesn’t spell any optimism whatsoever for the way this team has adjusted to this new season. Kefir Sherwood, I’m sorry, buddy. The Vancouver Conucks around you wasted a twogoal performance, including a short-handed goal that was so beautiful as Sherwood streaks down, comes in on a breakaway. Dipsy Doo dangles the pants off of Jordan Bennington and slides it along the ice for his second of the night. Could have been a hat-tick if things just gone a little bit better. But Kefir Sherwood, sorry to you because the Canucks wasted a totally stellar performance out of him. I’m going to say sorry to the fans watching this video and the ones that were watching that game in Rogers Arena expecting to see things get turned around and expecting the Vancouver Conucks to bounce back after a terrible night in Edmonton. But guess what? We were greeted with arguably an even more frustrating night between the referees not calling anything for the Vancouver Conucks to St. Louis netting up five goals and just totally overwhelming Vancouver throughout most of this game. I can’t go out there and in good faith say that this Canucks team is inspiring any hope for the way that they’re going to continue down the stretch. It’s three games, Lego. Why are you freaking out? Because this team doesn’t get a sample to go out there and breathe. The Vancouver Conucks are not an elite Stanley Cup championship caliber team. They don’t have the right to go out there and say, “Oh, it’s a slow start. Yeah, we’re good enough that we’ll come back and we’re going to guarantee ourselves a playoff spot.” They don’t have that luxury. They don’t have that benefit. They need to get results as quickly as possible. And it’s not even just that they only have one win in three games. It’s the fact that in the games that they lost, they’re not looking like a team that deserves a chance. They’re not looking like a team that deserves that benefit of the doubt. They got totally outclassed today. And maybe I’m frustrated more so than the average Canucks fan because I happened to stream Kevin Lankin in today in fantasy hockey. I was like, “Okay, Demco’s out. We got Sergey Babrowski on the bench, too, in Florida. Let’s start Kevin Lankanin. I’m going to go with Lankinan. Going to believe that he has a good game to start out his season against St. Louis.” Nope. Sorry. He lets in four. And I’m not even going to be too upset about him in particular because I think a lot of the goals weren’t really his fault. But they just go to show like this Canucks team. You talk about the new systems, the new style, it’s not working. At least it doesn’t look like they have what it takes to play the style effectively. Quinn Hughes continuously pinching up in the play, leaving up open defense spots, and the guys up front are not coming back and covering, leading to oddman rushes and goals. Turnovers in the offensive zone, bad angle shots that deflect out into the neutral zone off the boards and lead to St. Louis offense. I’m even more pissed off because I have Dylan Holloway in both of my fantasy leagues. Guess what? That guy’s got nothing done. He was supposed to be a top scorer. Why? At least if the Vancouver Kucks are going to lose so badly. Can he not get any points? Ohay. Dylan Holloway, you’re killing me, man. I’m having a really bad start to my week in fantasy. So, I think that’s kind of affecting the way that I’m reacting to this hockey game. But nevertheless, I think a lot of these concerns are valid. Vancouver loses 5 to2 to St. Louis. Kefir Sherwood gets the two goals. And you know, I don’t even think I need to talk about like, oh, St. Louis scored this goal and this guy got on the board. Like that was just a total stinker. Total stinker. You know, it’s three games in Vancouver is one of the most passionate fan bases around and they end up getting a performance like that in a situation where everybody’s worried about Quinn Hughes leaving, everybody’s worried about Elias Patterson not showing up and he didn’t show up today. He didn’t. He had an opportunity to shoot the puck into an open empty net in the first period after stealing a Jordan Bennington pass and he ended up not making the shot which I thought was bad at first like Person tried to pass it to Besser in front instead of just shooting it at the open net. But I will take back a little bit of criticism there because the secondary camera angle revealed that Ilas Patterson didn’t really have an open net to shoot at. There was a St. Louis blue guy right in front of him. Yes, there could have been some finagling to get around the guy, but in that very short span of time, Person had the choice to either shoot it or pass it off, and he decided to pass it. Less risky compared to the shot potentially getting blocked. I think that killer instinct that a lot of Canucks fans saw in Person in his earlier years, he would have shot it back then, but you know, now he’s not going out there and doing that, isn’t he? And when it comes to Vancouver Conucks players that are trying maybe a little bit too hard, man, I hate to say it. I hate that I’m even pondering this, but I feel like I feel like I feel like Quinn Hughes is potentially doing a little too much. Like, it’s blasphemy to even think about that. But when the Conucks had the empty net, I get it. It’s a two-goal game. They need to get a goal quickly. But Quinn, instead of taking his time and like assessing the situation, instead of passing it off to the guy on the side who has open space or whatever, Quinn decides to wind up for a big slapshot that gets blocked by a guy that’s right in front of him and it leads to an empty net goal. I feel like throughout the course of this game, we started to see Quinn Hughes trying to be the hero a lot and I respect that. I appreciate that. He’s talented enough to do that. But I think at some point St. Louis might have realized that, yeah, all we got to do is just lock up on this guy and we’re good. Nobody else is going to do anything else. It’s an everlong feedback loop that will result in Quinn Hughes getting all of the attention, none of the other Canucks stepping up to play because they can’t really do much when they don’t have the puck. And Vancouver doesn’t get the results either way. Like, I don’t know, man. That’s just sort of how I’m responding to it. I saw a lot of people on Twitter talking to Sportsnet 650 and all the other analysts out there saying that yeah, like Patterson’s not looking improved at all. Speed, agility, power, whatever the heck happened there. Even Hughes is getting folks going out there and saying, “Oh, the empty net goals scored on them by both Edmonton and St. Louis. His fault. Hughes is activating, but he’s not converting, etc., etc.” I mean, is it like the pressure from the contract or the pressure for the team to win that’s causing this sort of change in on ice contribution? I know there have been some folks responding saying, “Hey, the Conucks at least are trying new systems. The reason they are so sloppy when trying to create offense is because they’re trying these new things that they didn’t have last year.” And that’s different. In theory, everybody loved the runand gun offensive style. And I think a lot of us fed into that, especially in the preeason. But now, regular season games against Calgary, they didn’t really execute it all too much until the third period. Against Edmonton, they couldn’t get anything going. And then against St. Louis, they were sloppy. Got shut down the entire time. So Kefir Sherwood, I apologize to you. Kevin Lankin, I apologize to you for this hung out to dry performance that he was forced to put on that totally ruined my week for fantasy. and it’s only Monday. Big shout out over to Dylan Holloway for not doing anything and totally damning both of my fantasy teams. And big shout out to the Vancouver Conucks for going out there and putting yet another stinker right there in front of our eyes for all of us to feast at and hope at throughout the course of this Thanksgiving Monday that it was going to turn around. Spoiler alert, it didn’t. It’s three games in. The Canucks look bad and I don’t know how far we’re going to go before we start to see some actual changes go down with this team. 1. As an oilers fan I kinda just think of Petey as the Darnell Nurse of Vancouver LOL. Hope I’m wrong. But long term I think their contracts are gonna show the same downside 5 years from now.

  2. We didn't make any changes except signing same old players, why do we expect any improvement? 😂We just need to trade Hughes and Demko when they are still worth something😢

  3. They need to send Cootes back down. He hasn't been very good tbh. This isn't good for him to stay in this hot mess of a team.

I'm not sure why Forbort didn't play tonight but its obviously a mistake to not play him.

With all do respect- this team has guys on the PK who shouldn't be there.

And what a colossal mistake to let Suter walk and trade for that bum Evander Kane.

  4. 🤣 It's early in the season and people are already freaking out. Hockey season is definitely back. Thanks for the entertainment.

  5. I turned it off after the second period. Next step is do what I did most of the last 10 years and not watch at all. What is sad is the arena will be full the next 38 games. Suckers!!

  6. TBH, I am upset that Hughes wants to leave us and play with his brothers. "Disloyal" is the word. But if I am his friend, how can I bring myself to ask him to stay here? Dude, get out of this mess ASAP! It hurts. 😭

My only hope now is if we can pull off a 3 way trade to bring Bedard here, as we trade away Hughes to NJ. Since Bedard grew up a diehard Canucks fan, he will hopefully be "loyal" and stay with us 3 or 4 years until we can finish our small rebuild, and become competitive again. Who else will play for this mess we got in Vancouver? That fact that we don't have a legit 1st line tells you no one wants to play here.

What 1st line caliber guys we even have to partner with EP40? We got no one bro! Boeser and DeBrusk are great as 2nd line 0.6-0.8 PPG guys, but they simply aren't 1.0-1.2 PPG 1st line players. Sorry they just aren't that level.

  7. Here’s the thing. What can we expect when 1/2 the team are AHL guys at best. Cootes love the guy but he needs more time, lekerimaki needs to be utilized better, first line needs to wake tf up, I love chytil but he should not be the best centre in the team

  8. If the Canucks are going to have any chance of winning with their new system , play Thatcher Demko every game except back to backs . Maybe even the first back to back Demko and Sherwood are the strong leaders on the team right now , in the short term they must be out there . At some point the rest of the team will rise up and play the way they were taught in practice and pre season .

  9. Well there's a reason why I stopped watching this trash team and have been since the end of the 2011 and then getting bounced and watching the team lose there edge and go to mediocre to just trash dumpster fire.
This EP40 is supposed to be on this supposed revenge tour?!
HA! What a joke the captain is nonexistent and looks like he's completely out the door waiting to leave.

  10. EP40 is picking up where he left off last year. For a 1st line centre, he needs to control play. His possession numbers must be deplorable. He can not control play like any other 1st line centre does in the league. He is a support player at best, not your star player the team needs to rely upon to score. I will give him one thing, he has not been falling down as much as years gone by!!

  11. I said during the off season that if we had a bad start that at maybe the 20 game mark the Canucks would fire the coach and promote their AHL coach to run the big club. At this point I’m not sure that’s going to make much of a difference & the Canucks might be forced to start their rebuild by trading Hughes.

  12. The Canucks are mediocre. This is no secret, they signed a bunch of inconsistent players to long term contracts hoping they would get better, and they still need to acquire more good players to build a core around. Relax, and just accept the ride that you chose as a fan, or if you get mad, get mad at the team's PR for selling you this team as a good one.
