Game 2 (Los Angeles); Winnipeg Jets Post-Game Show

[Music] [Music] [Music] The Landing Strip with Nick Lam and Mikey Garcia, presented by From Financial. Welcome back to the landing strip brought to you by From Financial after the Winnipeg Jets get their first win of the season on a a Saturday matinea. I mean the 1230 was a bit of an adjustment for old Nick. I’ll tell you that. I don’t know how Mikey handled it, but the Winnipeg Jets get their first two points on the board in a tight game that uh might tell us what the the wins are going to look like here during the the injuries that have piled up in Winnipeg. But I’m not here to just ramble on my own. Mikey, how you doing today, buddy? You know, I was uh I was still shaking the the sleep out of my eyes when the game started this morning. I wasn’t totally uh you know with my wits, but after the second giant cup of coffee and uh turkey sandwich, I was I was into it. I was good to go. So yeah, like you said, I think this game was a precursor to what’s going to be coming for some of the wins to start off the year. I think they’re going to look a lot like this until the Jets get some uh some health back. But man, what a what an exciting one to to kick off our afternoon. And uh does that mean do we do we kick things back off? Are we bringing back Sack Squirtle or do we have a new victory thing? What do you think, Mikey? What are we doing here? Uh, for this game, we do have Sack Squirtle at least one more time. Let’s go. Hey, bring the good vibes to a Saturday afternoon here. [Music] Got to celebrate a little bit here. I missed that a lot. I’m going to be honest. Um, I see over on YouTube, Rob Somerville says, “Good afternoon, Nick and Mikey.” Good afternoon, Rob. Uh, Caitlyn says, “Good to be back.” And we’re we’re glad to have you back. Um, big takeaway, Mikey. What’s your first thought leaving the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on this Saturday afternoon? You know, the game looked uh a lot like I think we expected it to today. It was not uh not the cleanest game, maybe not the prettiest game, a far cry from maybe some of the dominance we had seen last year, but the fact that they were able to go out there, dig out a win with a heavy heavy reliance on that top line and the top D pairing, which we talked about in the preview show and in game one, that’s going to be the recipe to to start off the year here. They’re going to be going to to those five guys as much as humanly possible, as much as their legs can take it. They’re going to be seeing the ice. Uh and they looked great. They they were able to match up real well against the uh the top line of the Kings. So, you know, uh am I excited about having to do that every single game uh for the next little while? I don’t know if my heart can take it to be honest. Uh but it was good to see them get the win. They uh they deserved it after maybe falling asleep in the second with a a real bounce back in the third period. And what can we say about Mark Schiffley? He was uh he was a man possessed today. And I don’t have the numbers in front of me. I’m going to go back and take a look afterwards, but I feel like Mark Shley dominates during these afternoon games. Uh I just anecdotally speaking, I’ve got like some uh some memories of Shley during these afternoon starts going out there and uh and putting up some points. So he might be our our afternoon warrior. Yeah, definitely had a big one today. And we’ll get into that. I’m going to go through the chat and uh highlight some big takeaways that we’ve seen in the chat already before diving into my own over on uh Twitch. Choices TK, welcome back this year. Choices structure was there today, but defense still looks shaky. Screen point shots definitely give 37 problems. Wonder if it is because he crouches to find the puck and makes himself small. Need to find more five on five scoring other than the first line. Overall much better, but going to be a long six weeks. um with through the injuries. Another big takeaway, Mikey, you’re getting some love here. Holy smokes from DLabs 25. I missed the first one and that intro is beautiful. Well done there, buddy. Uh a couple observations over from YouTube. Caitlyn says, “The first line looks very good so far. Valardi looks like he’s added another level to his game. Way less onedimensional so far.” And I like that takeaway. I thought this was a really good showing from Gabe Valardi motivated against his old team. It does look like he’s added a step. um skating wise. Um and he definitely is driving the play a bit more. So, I like that from Caitlyn. Yep. Through two. That first line’s been uh great. Absolutely. The one line to be excited about right now. They’ve come out of the gates hot. Marty Thome says, “If Zuman and CC being on the ice for Shaley’s winner doesn’t sum up LA’s offseason, I don’t know what does.” And going into this game, I kind of my teaser on Twitter to try and get people to the show was talking about I like the Winnipeg Jets big guns over LA’s in this one. So, one point Nick and uh question of the game was which pair was going to bleed more, Flurry Pian, Stanley Shen or Dumlain Cece? And uh all the pairs bled a little bit but Dumlain Cece more than the average crew. And uh it was good to see the Winnipeg coaching staff get that top line against that pair for LA as much as possible. Um they’ve had a dreadful first three games in LA and Ken Holland continues to squander how he handles an NHL uh pocketbook when it comes to the cash. But a couple more takeaways. Rob Somerville was an observation from the first two games. The Jets are missing the exploits of Nikolai Eers, especially on the entry and exit into and out of the offensive defensive zones. And Matt Rothman says really need some offense to come from the middle six, the third line in particular. O. So, a lot of the stuff people are people are seeing a lot of the good, a lot of the bad early on. Uh, my big takeaway, this is going to be how games are going to be won for this team probably for that six to eight weeks. The top line looks awesome right now. They they’re dominating their looks. They’re they’re winning the underlying metrics battle. They’re like on a night like today where they’re 60 plus across the board. Uh Mark Shley with two big goals in this one. And um other than that, there’s not much help throughout the rest of the Winnipeg Chance lineup. The middle six there it’s yet to get going. There was one shift I think from the new look second line. you can get maybe a little bit optimistic about uh about the 10-minute mark of the third period. You saw them put together a shift um that started with Nikita Chibberov getting in on the pressure using his body to separate the man from the puck and we saw some sustained looks there, but that group hasn’t quite pieced it together yet. Their third line, as mentioned by Matt Rothman, in particular, has not been great. and we saw them stick with the eye of Fallow and Nyquis shift or um move there that we saw at the end of the first game. And then the fourth line didn’t get a whole lot done in this one and then Tanner Pearson takes a really tough penalty with 17 seconds to go with the empty net. Um it’s looking like a one one line one Dman in Josh Morris and an all-star goalie type of team right now. So you’re looking at matchups and wanting to see are the Jets top guys going to be the best guys in this game because it’s it’s going to be those that they have to win until Adam Lowry Cole Perfetti come and fix this middle six. That is also two of their better defensive forwards which I think plays into some of this defensive problems that we’re seeing. Y uh the team has come unglued at times. So I thought the first 15 minutes of the first looked like the Jets were used to before coming undone a little bit there. Um, it’s a oneline team that the power play is gonna have to keep adding some offense, which we saw some great looks from it today. I thought the power play took a real big step forward from game one to game two. Yep, 100%. You can tell that there really is no middle six at the moment when you take a look at how the ice time was divvied up today. You had the the top line getting their minutes, uh, which was normal. That’s fine. But then your quote unquote second, third, and fourth lines played eight minutes, seven minutes, and seven minutes at five on five trying to find something trying to find something that works within there because it’s just it it’s just not working kind of overall at the moment. And like you said, they’re missing two real big pieces to that centerpiece, right? Without Adam Lowry and Cole Perfetti, it makes everybody kind of play a little bit above what their stakes are at the moment. So the Yeah, the time can’t go by fast enough to get those guys back in the lineup. Uh we’re just going to have to keep relying on the offense flowing like you said from the power play from that top line and just hoping that the other three lines can minimize the amount of damage defensively while they’re on the ice and pray that Morris can play 40 minutes a game. Yeah. And actually Caitlyn uh mentions it here too. I should have mentioned this in my big takeaways. Baron on the PK and Baron five on five look like completely different players. Yeah. Do they have a PK weapon in Morgan Baron’s their two games? He comes up huge. Um, cracking down on I believe it was Biffield to make that turnover. Go two-on-one the other way as the penalty was expiring. Mark Shaley uses his strength, gets that backhand to go through. Uh, huge goal there uh with a minute left in the second in a period that really the tides had turned in LA’s favor. Always nice to get that late goal to kind of turn momentum around in the dressing room. And then Mark Shley, what a tip. What a tip. Gabe Valardi sends it up to Josh Morsy. Morsy gets it through. And you have Cody CC, which was the matchup you want to be looking for in this game. Yep. Battling Mark Shaley in front and Mark Shaley, great hand eye to put this one to bed. Uh, a huge performance out of Winnipeg’s top guys. Kyle Connor, too, I want to say, had five or six shots. Um, he was really who the power play was running from. I want to talk about the power play a little bit because I know you were concerned about it yesterday. Um, what was your thoughts on what you saw from both groups today? Let’s let’s touch a little bit on the power play before we move along here. Power play looked a lot better uh today. The early goal uh was a big a big piece of this, right? Again, we come down to a one-goal game and if they go 0 for four like they did in game one, right, this we were telling a different story. So, the fact that they were able to get on the board was nice, but just the movement in general uh was a lot better today. Uh again, I still uh I agree with Rob in that they’re they’re missing some of that that Eer’s speed on on the entries for sure. Um so that’s going to be interesting to see how they deal with that, especially once Cole Profetti comes back and assumably takes a spot back on that top power play unit. But it was it was a lot of uh the improvement was there today. So uh if they can keep that progression going, uh they’re they’re going to need it. They’re going to need a lethal power play again this year to to help rack up the wins. Yeah, not really buying it on the entries because he wasn’t really used like that on the power play last year. Um, what I saw today, the the second unit looks exactly like I I expected to look and I imagine they’re going to get their greasy ones. Everything on that unit’s going to run through Neil Pianc and then you got two absolute horses and Taves and Dino mucking it up net front and seeing what what’s going to go. I think you’ll see um some of those Punk shots get through or those guys take advantage of some of those rebounds and the chaos at some point and they were they they had a pretty good game of getting shots through on that second unit. Um the first unit especially that first goal would I really like to see you saw it working through Connor Valardi down low and I follow at the top of the slot for a bit there and when they when you saw the breakdown um Valardi gets it to Connor and the Kings PK guy jumps on Calcon Connor who finds Ayafallow all alone in the slot. It almost looked like Fallow was stunned with how much time and space he had from there and then he beats Keer against his former team. But I thought the Winnipeg Jets on the power play and this was one of my on social media if you follow me over there. I I always start the year with like 10 takes and predictions on the Jets. One of mine this year was the Jets power play will regress but not but will stay within the top 10 of the NHL. And I do think David Spain is really good at creating and figuring out the strengths with both units that I thought today was a big step forward in what we expect. And uh really like I thought the power play is where they created most of their great looks today outside the top line. So it was nice to see the power play look a bit uh more like last year’s version that both units can be dangerous. I thought uh I thought those units did a really good job today. Yeah, totally agree. Um, DABs asks, “Another good part of the game to get to here as the Winnipeg Jets came up big at the end of this one.” Dabs 25 says, “I didn’t catch much of the game due to my son’s semiinal football game. Big one. Congrats to to the boys team.” That’s huge. Love to hear that. But listen to the end of the game on the radio. Sounded hectic out there in the final sequences. Uh, did it look as hectic as it sounds? And, uh, the Winnipeg Jets or the sorry the LA Kings go the power play with about three minutes left and another team that took a little long to pull the goalie I thought for a team that’s down one with a power play uh especially with how well they handled the power play like they were in full control of it. Yep. Um but the the Kings did a really good establishing time in the Ozone, but the Jets did a tremendous job. Every guy on that ice including he he he’s a fire plug in this market. Logan Stanley comes up with a few big blocks in this sequence. Uh a huge hit earlier in the game, too. There are some pros. Hey, there are some pros for the big guy. Absolutely. It’s not all doom and gloom, you know, when it when it comes to him. We’ll give them the the flowers when it applies. And yeah, those the blocks were were massive today. The hit was huge. Uh there was a the shot they showed on TV right at the end of the game. Uh I believe it was right after one of the last icings where Stanley, the poor guy, just he’s hunched over and gassed, but it’s, you know, they put it all out there and yeah, he came up big in a few spots. But yeah, it was one of those sequences where the the Kings were doing a really good job of cycling the puck around, but the Jets were blocking each and every shooting lane. They were getting uh nothing was able to get through for the Kings. In fact, Biffield shot gets blocked late, costing me a bit of a four-legg parlay on some props. Hate to see that for the old pocketbook, right? But no, it was it was a really great uh sequence from the end that the Jets really felt in control defensively to close that game out in a game where the defensive zone was once again quite leaky at times. Like Connor Halobuk, it felt like it felt like a five on five. It was a It was a 50-50 game in which I thought Connor Halbuck had to make the bigger saves. It felt like sitting there. Um and then on the specialty teams, I thought the Winnipeg Jets were a lot more creative on their power play with the looks they were getting than the Kings were getting with theirs. Yep. Um so yeah, hat tip. Shout out to each and every guy that killed the last minute and a half there because that was shut down defensive hockey. And it sees us see an interesting moment. Puck squirts out. Nomesticov and Pearson get a twoon-one. Vlad sends it over to Tanner Pearson who whiffs, loses the puck, and then trips the dmen to put the Kings back on a power play with 17 seconds to go. Not a a banner move uh moment from old Tanner Pearson. No, not when you’ve got an open net uh glaring you right there looking for that one to dump in. And yeah, he goes and they show the replay in slow-mo afterwards. You can see him just absolutely stick his leg right out to try to interfere with the guy coming across the blue line. You’re like, “Come on, TP. What are you doing?” I think this is a great point um from Caitlyn before I’m going to go to some social media stuff that was sent my way to talk about on this show. Uh, Kaitlin says, “It’s a sign that teams really fear Connor now and their priorities to stop him from getting a shut off. Could open up stuff for AI and Gabe on the PP.” And that was my exact takeaway watching how quick the Kings jumped towards Kyle Connor and how quickly he made the great feed to AI. Um, if if you have guys like that and teams are going to overcompensate on a guy like Kyle Connor, it’s going to open up space for the rest of that unit to get open and and really operate. I’m I’m very optimistic about where the power play can and should go under Davis Payne this year. Yep. Absolutely. You can ride the over cororrections all year. If they’re going to focus in on Connor, you just keep feeding it out to the like you said to the Valardes and the Gabes out on the sides. If uh they decide, oh no, okay, we’re going to start fanning back out and cover those guys, well then Conor’s going to get that extra time. So damned if you do and damned if you don’t. And I love it. So I got a few tweets um throughout the game. Always nice any type of communication I’m big on with the audience here. Get the comments postgame, get the comments during the show and uh get some comments on social media wanting to know what we wanting to ask questions for the show. So George Selva, shout out George on your post gamer, we were just talking about Tanner Pearson. On your postgamer, George says, can you review what was the point of the Pearson Kepki signings? Brutal waste. Tough night for the fourth line today. Mikey, I’ll let you lead this one off. What do you have to say for uh George Dilva on the Pearson Kepki signings? Do you want the Jets reasoning? The you know, their their reasoning is whatever comes to mind, buddy. I’m sure their reasoning is you’ve got Tanner Pearson, somebody with some Stanley Cup pedigree for a group that maybe didn’t have, you know, a lot of it coming into last season. The Kepki one I’m actually still okay with as a fourth line ad. He like that’s that’s an NHL player that can play on your fourth line that can, you know, fill in on a third line if needed. That one I was actually completely fine with. The Tanner Pearson Gustaf Nyquist are the two that really I I can I can understand what they were wanting to get across, right? We’re going to add veteran presence. We’re going to add some leadership. We’re going to add that Stanley Cup pedigree, yada yada yada. I just don’t think they jumped on those right players with those things. It’s great to have those intangibles, but you still need the on ice production part of it too a little bit somewhere. And I just I I’m not sold that Pearson and and Nyquist are the right guys for for the Jets on the on ice side of it. I guess yeah, my feeling is that they were looking for the off ice leadership, you know, the the new Matt Hendricks kind of thing. I just don’t know if uh if we’re gonna get enough off on ice from those guys, you know. Over on YouTube, Arc Sign says Ta has enough Stanley Cup pedigree for four teams. Yeah, fair enough. Um reviewing those signings, uh I wasn’t big on Tanner Pearson coming out of camp. I I think it I think that’s the guy I ultimately think will be uh maybe bumped out as time goes on here. We’ll see. Um, I guess that’s probably going to be the new whipping boy up front, though. It looks like he respect his career. It looks like he has cooked. Um, I I I too I have no problem with the Cole Keepy one. I thought that line did have their troubles today. Um, but when I watch Cole Keepy, I see a guy that brings some speed, which is going to be much needed when you look at the rest of this lineup. I I think he forchecks real well. He’s looking to get physical. Uh, he’s got some rope and some time in my uh in my eyes. Um I’m with you on the Gustav Nyquist. I’m not a big fan of watching them through too. It’s early and we got to expect um some time for these new guys. Like there is five new forwards. That is a big turnover for this Jet squad. So I do think we need to not pass big big judgments two games in. It’s going to take some time and we knew that coming in. Um but I I can see the frustrations. Um, as I have not been too big on Pearson or Gus Nquis at this point. Um, my question for you with the two games that we’ve had so far, if uh, Perfetti and Lowry were ready tomorrow, who uh, which two guys are coming out? Uh, I would guess for you, not for the Jets, which two would you be taking out? Oh, it’s way too soon. Ask me that when we get closer. It’s only two games. I don’t want to be making big big things here. I’m just curious. It’s way too early for that. Those guys aren’t close yet. Those guys aren’t close yet. Yeah. Uh, a few more interesting conversations. I like uh I I have no idea how to pronounce this guy’s username, but uh he sent me a tweet each intermission, so I wanted to make sure to talk about some of this stuff. After the first period, interesting development. If Shenner is gonna fight Stan’s battles for him and Stan doesn’t have to fight after he makes those big hits, he’s green lit to be buff reckless. There’s one way of a highly flawed pair could contribute and be effective, be punishing, physical boogeyman. And obviously this is in reference to Logan Stanley stepping up on I believe it was Leferier in the first period along the wall. Yes. Big big step up. That’s uh the second biggest hit I’ve seen Stanley step into. Obviously the first being last year’s first round on Kyu. And then we saw Luke Shen scrap, former Winnipeg Jets uh depth piece on the Moose, Jeff Meot, who has a brother that fights in the UFC and Shenner really gave it to him. So me and me and him had a little back and forth where I said crushed out. Oh, Turkot. Yes, he was Turkot number 15. You’re right. He crushed Turkot. That’s a good good pull. Um I’m not saying it’s a development yet. You got to see it more. But is this an optimistic way to find some value out of the third third beat pair? You know, if they’re going to make big moments like that if you can get off some big moments, uh get some big hits and it takes Shen off the ice for a few minutes. It gives him a breather after the fight. You know, it maybe isn’t the worst uh way for a problematic third pairing to to contribute, but it’s still maybe not my preference on how I want them to approach it. But hey, if it’s going to give him the green light to go out there and and use that big frame in a way we haven’t really seen him do a whole hell of a lot, cool. Let’s do it. Yeah. Can’t say it’s something I’m buying quite yet or at all. But hey, if we want to find some optimism early in the season, we just saw a play where it happened. Sure. Sure. Yep. We’ll we’ll roll with it. We’ll roll with it. Um, also sent in from the same account, Cop died. This was after Baron makes the big P penalty killer spot. Cop died so Baron could live as a better PK version. The trade keeps on blooming. Baron’s power kill/contractor are insanely valuable. the cop trade melted down, but it shows how draft develop and feed in from the bottom and replenish from the top is supposed to work. What do you think of that one? I I just want to make sure we’re not uh downplaying the the contributions that my boy Andrew Cop made when he was here as a Winnipeg Jet. Now, different story right now, but he was a damn good fourthline player for a very long time. I like my Andrew even. Yeah. And he had to play up in third for uh for stretches, too. So, uh, Copper was great, but yeah, it’s it’s nice seeing Baron kind of, uh, dig that spot on the fourth line. He’s he’s claimed it for himself for right now. Uh, and yeah, PK, he’s a little bit of a different beast, which makes me think if uh if we get to a point where he’s got some different wingers on that fourth line once they’re uh, you know, once we add a couple more bodies back to the healthy rotation, you might have a fourth line that is able to, you know, chip in a little bit offensively that can play, you know, six, seven minutes and take the uh the weight off of your your middle six. Yeah. when he when he jumps guys on that PK like he did on Biffield there. He’s got like and Biffield’s not a weak player himself. He’s a pretty big guy. Uh Morgan Baron is is physically strong in that spot to win that battle and then gets his feet moving. Like he has so many of those tools to be a successful player in that bottom six. Sometimes I think I think the brain goes off on him a little bit at times, but he he he’s got the size, he’s got the strength, and he’s got the speed to really make a difference down there. And he’s been doing it on the PK. Like that’s two both games uh early on where a goal at the end of the penalty kill comes at the hands of uh Morgan Baron’s work. So, it’s been great to see that Andrew Cop trade obviously has provided the Winnipeg Jets quite a bit in both an NHL player in the depth role from Morgan Baron, but also their number one prospect in the lives. Salmanson comes from one of those picks and Brad Lambert, who’s in the press box right now, also comes from that trade. Uh, that definitely was uh good work from the Winnipeg Jets. The last tweet, and this is an interesting one. This is a this I think this is going to be a bigger talking point this year and this is a an angle that I’m curious to see how it ages. Um way too early hot take. Dlo already not an ideal top pair player has regressed and we did see last year was his toughest year in Winnipeg. They say the solid fundamentals of that pair are broken and hindering J Mo. We can complain about the third pair and second pair all we want, but this is a big group problem if we care about Jo’s health or peak play. What are you thinking about that? Yeah, it was a rough season last year for for Dylan Dlo. We saw longer stretches of, you know, rough play more than we saw the the long stretches of of really put together play, but the top end play from him last year was still, you know, fairly fairly elite. It was still able to to be alongside Moresy. So, I’m I’m hoping it’s not what we’re going to have to go through again this year of, you know, long stretches of downplay before we see, you know, the the stretches of that that elite kind of play. But I I think it’s still too early to tell. It’s been a couple of of rough starts here so far, but you know, they’re both having to play 25 minutes uh over these first couple games because there’s nobody to play behind them to to relieve any of that pressure. They’re going to have to play penalty kill. So, it’s it’s a bit of a rough stretch right now, but I think it’s still too early to say that it’s uh that it’s over and done for for double D. So, I agree with the premise of this tweet that Dyl isn’t a top pair player. I think in an ideal world he is anchoring one of these bottom four pairs or bottom four spots and that’s where the Winnipeg Jets would upgrade in an ideal world. Uh maybe a D man that is a bit more physically dominant in the slot which we’ve seen come up and hurt the Winnipeg Jets. even this goal today. Um the first one on Hellbuck is that that playoff goal we’ve seen what onethird of the goals in the playoffs look like where I want to say it was Morrisy jumps up to tie up Kopitar and it’s a high screen that beats Hellbuck high like that is an area we know in the playoffs the Winnipeg Jets decor has struggled with and I do see the argument there now we’ll see where Dylan Delo’s season goes. I thought today was a real rough one for him. After a solid first game uh in game one, the regression curve for him could be a lot more um harsh than other guys given he doesn’t have an elite elite skill set. He was kind of one of those guys that’s been steady in a lot of areas, but as those players age, the falloff normally hits a bit harder. So this is a storyline that I am intrigued by for the rest of this year as it does have a big impact on how much they get out of their best D man and Josh Morsy and we still have another uh two seasons of Dylan Dilllo after this one. So I’m really hoping the wheels aren’t falling off quite yet. For sure. For sure. Caitlyn over on YouTube says, “I don’t think Dillo is washed, but we can’t be depending on him as much as we are. He’s a solid top four guy being played like a number one Dman.” Elias Mcracken also likes the theory. Likes the Logan Stanley Luke Shen theory, saying, “I’ve been saying this for years. If Stan could be scary, he might clear some room for himself.” Um, I just don’t think that’s something you could force out of someone that just doesn’t have it in their soul, and that’s always been my thought on Logan Stanley. Now, as we hit the halfway point of the show, let’s move in to the From Financial Faceoff. What did you think was the difference in this game between the Winnipeg Jets and the LA Kings to lead to the Winnipeg Jets 32 victory uh over LA today? We want to hear from you in the chat. Let us know who what your from financial faceoff is in this one and me and Mikey will get to ours here. That’s it. [Music] Right on. Right on. And if you want to call in, now is the time to start dialing in after this segment. Um, that option is always open at 12480049 if you’d rather call in than chat in the chat. Mikey, what is your prom financial faceoff for this game number two, LA versus Winnipeg? So, uh, we kind of touched on it a little bit earlier and it was the power play. It was the power play getting on the board, getting both units moving, getting back to what made them so dangerous last year. The Jets are going to have to rely so heavily again on the power play this year uh especially to start the season off and rank uh or uh start uh banking points. Sorry. Wow, I can’t talk. Uh before that uh before that Thanksgiving line, right? We uh we talk about it. There’s not a lot of movement after that point. Teams kind of start to get cemented in and you got to bank as many points as you can early. So on a night where the Jets win by one goal, you got a power play goal early on. Uh for me that’s uh what I was looking for. So that’s my from financial faceoff on this night. I’m gonna go with the Mark Shley physical uh difference. When Mark Shaley is physically engaged, he’s a he can be a very dominant player. He’s got the size and he’s got the skill set on on goal number one from Winnipeg or not Winnipeg, sorry, if scores goal number one. Goal number one from Mark Schaefley um with a minute five left. You see him reach out to protect the the puck from a backchecking by field. Then he has the wherewithal to get the backhand off. And then goal number two, which is the game winner. He’s winning a netfront battle and still has the the hand eye and skill set to get that tip, which that puck was likely going wide and Mark Schaefley reaches around gets an unbelievable tip. I’m going to say the from financial faceoff difference in this one is Mark Shley’s physical presence. A couple of comments over on YouTube. Caitlyn’s from Financial Faceoff is special teams won us this game. PK was elite which Lisa Mandell also says our PK has been making me pretty happy lately. And this is something I kind of hinted at earlier when I was talking about I thought LA was probably more dangerous five on five, but the Jets power play was a lot more dangerous than LA’s. Hat tip and credit goes out to the Winnipeg Jets penalty kill who made sure to jump on and get clears every time there was a bit of a fumble. I thought the Winnipeg Jets PK definitely deserves those flowers. So like that from Caitlyn and Lisa over on YouTube. Um, Lisa also points out on this topic, the only power play goal they’ve allowed so far was on the five on three where J Mo lost his stick, making it virtually a five on two. Very true. Yep. Elias McCracken also says, “Solid win today. I think they’re still feeling out some new roles and new players, but I thought the effort was more consistent.” This game definitely had its its high points and its low points. Um, the version of the Winnipeg Jets that came out early in that one looked like the team we’re used to seeing. I thought the first 12 to 15 minutes of that game were really, really solid on Winnipeg’s part. Drew three power plays in that span, too. Um, then it fell apart and we saw the defense of zone be a bit of a mess and give up some high-end looks in the high slot, which isn’t what we’re used to seeing when this team’s at their best. We know that the calling card is the defensive structure and defensive play. Yep. and then we see them lock in defensively in the last minute to close out this win. So there there’s a lot of good to take away. There are some low points and there’s some some areas that are going to probably be cause for concern, continue to be cause for concern as we wait for some of these injuries to heal. Um as long as this team hovers around 500 during the first six to eight weeks, I think they’re going to be fine as they get things sorted out here. And right now one and one, I’ll take it. Yep. Absolutely. I’ll take it. especially against two uh you know fairly good teams. It’s not like these were two lottery teams you know last year that uh the Jets you know barely scraped by. They took Dallas right to the end and that’s you know you got some people who have Dallas pegged as uh Stanley Cup aspirations. Uh and the Kings may not be you know the Kings of old but this was still a pretty good team and the Jets were able to go out and get the two points today. So yeah, like you said I’m uh I’m okay with the start one and one. They’ve shown some things. They’ve shown some stuff to work on as well, but uh sky isn’t falling. I think we’ll be all right. Couple late entries to the chat. Sill says, “What’s up, Nick? Good to see you in the chat.” And and Silus Stall says, “Hey y’all.” Good to see you, Silus, in the chat. Welcome. Welcome. Um I just lost where I was going with that. I had somewhere to go. Oh. Um, speaking of injuries and getting through, we saw another Winnipeg Jet go down and not come back in this one. Hayden Flurry blocks a shot and leaves this one early. Are we going to see Colin Miller playing his off wing with Neil Pianc here in the next coming days? Uh, it’s uh, it’s starting to feel like it. Uh, Scott said in the post game that we of course the the standard. We won’t know more until tomorrow, but he said he uh he took the puck to the top slash side of the kneecap. Uh so yeah, I’m guessing he’s going to be sitting at least for a game or so while that gets uh taken care of. So we’re probably going to see Colin Miller pop in. Now, I don’t know if that means he’s going to be sliding into uh the spot alongside Neil Punk. I think we’re probably going to see Logan Stanley take that spot and you’ll see Colin Miller play his offhand with Luke Shen on the bottom pairing, but we’ll see. I don’t mind that. I actually might prefer that. I got to be honest with you. Yeah. Uh stylistically, um so obviously Sten and uh Stan Shann and Stanley are just really really slow on the boots and get get in their own trouble. Yep. Uh I actually think Stan is a better pairing mate than Hayden Flurry for Neil Pian because Stan’s a bit better defensively whereas Flurry offers you the skating ability. And I think when when we’re talking about this, you’re gonna get bad bottom fours no matter what. So, let’s try and just get as much out of each one as you can. Uh I do think you’ll you’ll get a little bit more out of your your bottom pair with Miller Shen and maybe Stanley Pian isn’t that dreadful. I don’t We’ll see. We’ll see. There you go, ladies and gentlemen. Nick Linham is officially a Logan Stanley Stan. He wants top four Logan Stanley alongside Neil P. That’s you. Hey, hold on. Hold on. I don’t want it. I just I understand the the the the play right now. It’s oblique on that decoy until Samberg gets back. It’s really bleak back there. It’s rough with no Samberg at the moment, but yeah, I actually I do I expect Logan Stanley to be taking the spot beside Punk in the top four there. And you’ll get a Colin Miller uh Luke Shen bottom pairing. Hey, welcome to the big league lineup, Colin Miller. God, poor Colin miserable. That poor guy, man. Um, still says flurry injury. Ferraro, you are a Winnipeg Jet. Um, could see it too. We saw we heard that they were floating around Mario Ferraro last year. Yep. Really interesting. I don’t know if you saw this. Um, the San Jose Sharks owner decided to do media this week for the first time in like a decade apparently. And I’ve never seen an NHL owner be so open and honest about their hockey team. It was it was a pretty interesting read. Oh I haven’t actually seen that. I’ll check that out. Yeah, I’ll I’ll send it your way. He he he was very open about Thomas Hurdle. Uh Eric Carlson. He had some thoughts about he had some interesting thoughts about his coach benching uh some of his young players this year. Like it was I’ve never seen an NHL owner be so public about like his entire thoughts about a hockey team. And he did mention how Mario Ferraro is the last remaining kind of vet from uh those those Sharks glory days as it was ending there. Yep. So it was interesting. It was interesting. I’m going to take a look. That’ll be good. Uh Elias McCracken, let’s not slander. Let’s not slander. It says Nick Hartz Stanley with a bunch of exclamation marks. That is definitely not the case. I am looking forward if I had the ball. So, every every year, and we talked about this earlier, I do a 10 takes. I was flirting with number 10. I I went with a Jonathan Taves take of he’s going to score 40 points as long as he plays 65 games. Um, I was flirting with going bold and saying that this was going to be big stands last year in Winnipeg. I just didn’t have the I didn’t have that boldness in me. I didn’t have it. He’s retiring here, so maybe I’m going to have to start hurting him. They’ve already started digging out the uh quarry for the statue. You need a lot for a you know a big guy like that. Did you know he’s 67? Hey, what did you think with about 3:30 to go? Um did Neil Pian um turn on Crown Jewel and watch some WWE before uh playing this afternoon? Uh that looked like a WWE style takedown to go to the box and give LA the power play with 3:30 to go. That was wonderful. Yeah, I saw that. So, Nick is now the president of the Logan Stanley fan club. Start spreading the news, We will never make it there. We will never make it there. Um, one guy I wanted to shout out though, and we talked a little bit about it. I don’t know if it was just a revenge tour. I don’t know if we’re seeing him take a stride, which this team could really use him taking a stride. Really, really liked Gabe Valard’s game. now gets the assist on the power play or second assist cuz he passes that up to Morsy. Gets the second assist on the first one as well. The eye if goal um but it looks like he’s got some more jump in him. We know those hands are filthy, but it seems like he’s creating a bit more for himself. Are we seeing Gabe Valardi fresh off a six-year 7.5 million deal potentially taking another step for the Winnipeg Jets in his mid20s? I think we are Gabe Valardi. So, you’ve got some players in the league who thrive on the quote unquote contract year, right? Some guys are just absolutely they’re hungry when they know that they’re about to get paid or this is their chance to get paid, right? So, you get the whole, you know, jokes of the contract year guy and then, you know, some of them fall off of it afterwards and you go, “Ah, see, now that they’re comfortable, they’re not putting in the work.” Gabe Valardi to me is always read as the exact opposite kind of guy. He he’s always read to me as if he has the security and the knowledge that he isn’t going anywhere. He’s got that uh that comfortability that that chance to put down roots that that’s when you’re going to get the most out of him. That’s when he’s the most focused on the game. That’s when he’s going to give you that little bit more. Um and I think that’s kind of what we’re seeing to to start the year off here. He’s got that new deal signed. He’s locked in. He knows he’s not going anywhere. and all he has to focus on is is hockey and the actual on ice portion of the game. And there’s a lot there, right? He’s he’s got the skill, he’s got the vision, we know he’s got great hands. Uh and now we’re just kind of seeing him pull everything together into that next level. So, yeah, I think the uh the new deal and being able to put down roots and knowing who his linemates are going forward that uh we’re going to see a real good Gabe Valardi. Yeah, he definitely looks uh more and more comfortable out there. Uh Lisa points out, Gabe says he wants the best value contract on the team and I think he’s working on that. Yeah. Uh and that that’s the kind of mindset too you want to see a guy have, right? You don’t want to see someone get paid the big bucks. And Gabardi was someone that wasn’t necessarily always guaranteed in LA, right? The injuries had kind of cost him. There was some frustration with the development kind of stalling at times. Um never got a big contract in his second deal because of the injuries, right? So that was a big deal for him to be able to sign six years with the Jets and to see him want to embrace that attitude that Elise is talking about there. Elias McCracken also says Gabe Gabe Valardi is primed for his big breakout year. Injuries are behind him uh in brackets hopefully. And that’s always been the big thing right with Gabe is can he put together a fully healthy season. He does look a step quicker to me early on in this year. He is a guy that is now locked in. seems motivated to want to take another step after a big year last year. Um, and he’s in that age range where guys still do take a step and this team really does need him to. I’m I’m buying the Gabe uh Gabe Valardi um step coming. He’s only 26. He’s just hitting his like physical physical prime. Like he is Yeah, he’s got absolutely room to still grow and he’s already at a a pretty high level. So, I think we’re going to get to reap the uh the rewards of that. And this is someone that did lose a lot of development and growth in his early 20s y that you can see with that you could actually really buy into the idea that he’s blooming late because of it. Um yeah, the PLLD trade continues to pay off dividends as both Valardi and I follow are all over the score sheet against their former team tonight. Now Sil asks over on Twitch, Nick, what are the vibes around Chiby’s start? Mark, I’ve heard mixed opinions. Also, what’s your read on Lambo staying with the team over Gus? Mikey, I’ll let you answer first and then I’ll get to that one. Uh, I’ll take the second question first. Uh, the read of Lambo staying over Gus. I want to say I called that one that Gus was going to clear. If, uh, if you’re trying to sneak him through waiverss, this was the time to do it, right? Rosters were pretty full. You hadn’t had a big slew of injuries kind of take over any certain team. So the fact that they were able to get him to to pass through to the Moose was huge for the Moose and for the Jets depth in general. So um the read that I took from it was that initially I felt like they were probably going to be swapping out Chibberov and Lambo to to start the season to see if somebody, you know, meshes better with uh uh with Jonathan Taves. Plus, you still had the kind of little bit maybe they had a question mark on just how well Taves’ body was going to be um coming off of, you know, they had him on the non-roster IR to start. So, there maybe was a little bit of a question on on what his health totally was. So, you keep an extra centerman uh up and they like what they see in Lambo. So, I I just figure that it was going to be we’re going to be seeing him factoring into the games early on. Um I’m curious how it’s going to go in the next couple to see if he does slide in. I’d be shocked if he’s not going to play any games and just going to ride the the pine in the press box when he could be with the moose for free. Uh so I do expect Lambo to to slot in at some point, but we kind of touched on it a little bit. Uh they’re giving an opportunity to their young players in the the Lambos and the and the Parker Fords. Um over Gus, who’s maybe fallen a little bit out of their uh their long-term plans maybe, right? he’s kind of maybe hit that 15th forwardish mark now where you’re going to be riding that healthy 17 when healthy when uh when the other two come back. So uh and I don’t know I just and we haven’t seen anything negatively from Gus to say yeah he’s not an NHL player or he’s not good enough to be there. I just think they like the upside a little bit more on a Brad Lambert and they maybe want to give that a look early on when you’ve got two guys in your top six or middle six that are out. Um, Chibi in general, I’ve liked the start. Um, I like he doesn’t look out of place to me. He doesn’t look like he needs more time with the Moose and that, you know, this is league is above his head. Uh, I don’t like the line mates for him at the moment. I just don’t know if we have uh a combination of guys right now that is going to really benefit uh his development. But um yeah, I I haven’t had anything from Chibi that I’ve gone ah no, send him down to the moose. this is this is way above his head. Uh I think he needs NHL games and NHL reps to to keep growing. So I like that he’s in. Uh I wouldn’t mind seeing him stay in when a Cole Perfetti does come back. I’d like to see the two of them uh link up a little bit on a line. That could be fun. But uh we’ll see what that looks like when that happens. How about you? Where uh where are you with these two things? Uh I’m I’m somewhere in the mixed opinions spot with Chibraov. um that middle six uh which includes that second line just has not given the Winnipeg Jets anything. I I’ve seen moments like in game one Chibberov has that great pass to Taves in the net front where he goes high and wide on a great look. So that stands out today their best shift starts with Chibberov getting in on the pressure using his body to separate the puck uh and then making the smart play with the puck. So there there is big moments that stand out for me with his game for a guy that plays a bit of a quieter game, but also that group just hasn’t been going at all. And the Jets can only live off just one line for so long. And that’s what it’s looking like early on that it’s hard for me to get too excited from what we’ve seen through two. Now, I also think you’re looking at a second line with three guys playing together for the first time ever in their careers. um one of them being in the NHL for the first probably real stretch when this is all said and done of his career that I I’m looking at this in a more patient lens than I would have maybe with the group that we’ve seen for years and years and years on end um in years past. So I’ve seen some good. I’ve seen a lot of bad with that group too that as in there hasn’t been a lot of speed with them. Um it’s looked disjointed at times as you’d expect. There’s been some misses between Taves and Chibi. We’ll see where that goes. We’ll see where that goes. It’s It’s very early. It’s game two. It should be expected that there’s going to be a bit of a smoothing out period with the group. And uh I I don’t have any big judgments quite yet when it comes to that. I’ve seen some good, I’ve seen some bad. We’ll see where it goes. Uh my read on Lambo staying over the team over Gus. um they want more speed out of the 4C spot, which is where Baron’s really taken and um stolen that role, which is where Gus was kind of projected to be. Um they’ve also seemed to fall in love with Parker Ford and his motor to kind of take that role should uh they need a fill in on the fourth line. So, it really eliminated uh Gus from the fourth line talk given what the coaching staff seems to want to get out of that fourth line. Um, I was a little surprised, but not totally surprised he made it through waiverss. I was thinking at like 800K for a fourthline center that could play on a PK, maybe a team takes a look at that. Though, this this week, every team’s kind of finalized their rosters and have their own guys like that that they want to take a look at. So, on that side, I’m not that surprised because you’re committed to them as well. Once you claim them, it’s there’s a lot more to it now than it used to be, right? You could claim them before and then toss them down again if you wanted to. Now, there’s other rules around it and things. So, yeah, it’s a it was a good gamble, I think, on the Jets part for sure. And that Moose team, yeah, continues to get deeper. Y uh really impressive to see. I’m really curious to see where their year goes this year. Um but it’s also it is a changing thing for the Winnipeg Jets to make a move like that. We’ve we haven’t seen them keep three two-way guys or not two-way guys, guys that were waiver exempt um up with the team over guys that weren’t waiver exempt. So clearly the team is looking at something different here which I think is a positive like if if Tibberov or Lambert end up using this this runway to solidify a role. Uh I do think the Jets upside takes a bit of a hit which is a good thing. They we know that this team needs all the upside it can get. I’m really curious to see how they use Lambert because yeah like you I’d be surprised if he’s up during the the entire time of injuries and doesn’t get a look. It’s it feels like it’d be a bit of a waste of keeping him up. He he’d make a bit more money, but this is still a guy that needs to be playing and developing. And you have this you have the AHL team at home, right, which is right down the the hall. So, I’m expecting Lambo to kind of get a look here, especially with the middle six looking how it is and this team needing a bit of an offensive boost and a bit of a speed boost in the the forward group. I’m honestly really intrigued by the idea of Lambert beside a John Taves. Taves has really looked to me um like a player that is a bit behind the play when it comes to the skating, the conditioning, which is to be expected after all this time. um that but he still looks like a physically dominant player like when Taves has his body position like a guy like on the other side Kopitar for a guy that’s lost his wheels if he has his body position on you he’s still a dominant hockey player uh Taz has looked physically dominant in the corners and when he’s in around it and able to get that body positioning and he still has the high IQ and the offensive creativity that I almost think Lambert and Taves what they’re really good at would help both players with what they’re struggling with at this points of their career that I’m actually really intrigued by the idea of seeing Lambert at some point um during this stretch beside a guy like John Taves and what that looks like as well. I’m sure we’re going to learn learn about this team’s forward group and some of these young guys as it goes. That’s just some of what I’m thinking and seeing. Um great question from S over on Twitch. Yeah, that’s a good one. And he points out too, it’s not like there’s a ton of room in the AHL either. They’re absolutely stacked. And at some point when Perfetti and Larry get back, you’re likely going to see two more forwards end up back with that Moose team. That is going to be one of the deeper forward groups I’ve seen in the AHL in some time. Yeah. With three really good defenseman at top the lineup in Salmanson, Kle, and Hanaha running things from the point in which the scout look says, “I missed the whole game. moving day, but saw the moose yesterday. Just here to support and say that Kle looks great and Jagger is my new Patan, which the scout look was a big Patan guy, so clearly really liked Jagger. Um, Kale Kle, a great veteran ad to a decoy that has Billy Han and Elias Salmanson. The Moose are worth worth your time this year, folks. The Moose are going to be worth your time. Yeah, they’ve got some uh Calder Cup aspirations, I think, this year with how stacked that group is. They they finally went out and got some really good AL veterans to help things along, too. I think they saw how rough the experience was on a lot of the young guys last year having to go through such big losing streaks like that that you can’t It’s part of development, right? It’s part of development to foster a good uh environment whether you’re winning or losing, but it sucks when you’re doing nothing but losing. So, it’s yeah, it’s good that they made that conscious choice to go out and sign some solid AHL guys to help them along this year as we approach Oh, Dabs points out Kle, former Brandon Weing. Yeah, I I remember I was quite intrigued by him uh in his draft class year ahead of Mr. 6’7 actually. Yep. Um, as we approach the hour mark here, what do you say we go into the three stars from tonight’s game and move along with our Saturdays as we approach the 5:00 PM hour? Awesome. Let’s hit it. [Music] Right on. Right on. Is right. Uh before we get to three stars, Elias McCracken asks a question. And you know, I like getting to the the audience questions here before we close out. What are your thoughts on how Lambert fits into the culture of the Jets? What do you think of that one, Mikey? Uh, I think with the kind of new look locker room of the Jets, you know, the things that were started under the, you know, old coach Bones and have kind of transferred over now into Scott Arneal. Uh, I think it’s a great environment for for a guy like Lambert who, you know, there was, uh, there was a lot of off ice, you know, conversation and noise uh, with with some of his stuff before. Uh, we don’t need to get into all of it. Uh, again, it’s all been hashed to death. Uh, but now that he’s here full-time with the team in this type of environment with this leadership group, I think it’s actually a great spot for Lambert. And if he’s going to pan out as an NHL regular, I think he can do it here just as well uh as he could anywhere else. So, yeah, I think he uh I think he fits kind of right into what the Jets are are trying to build going forward. What about you? If he’s someone that’s willing to learn, I think he’s got two great centers on this NHL roster that take the time to really help guys along in both Mark Shaley and John Taves when it comes to like the extra work at practice and such. And we know that everything around this team has talked up how much better this dressing room is, how much this team appreciates being here. I think uh Lambert’s in a I think this dressing room’s in a really good situation to help bring along someone like Brad Lambert that I’m not too worried about uh him in that regard. Yep. Totally agree. All right, let’s move into the three stars. We want to hear from you. Who are your three stars on this Saturday afternoon? And as usual, Mikey, I’m going to send it your way first. Who do you got today for the three stars in the Winnipeg Jets verse LA Kings? Right on. So, uh, for my third star, I’m giving it out to, uh, two different guys who, uh, got on the score sheet, made positive, uh, contributions in their revenge game cuz I love a revenge game. So, Alex, I Afallow, Gabe Valardi, uh, you guys get my third star. Going out there, killing your former team, showing them what a mistake it was to take PLLD instead of those guys. Uh, absolutely wonderful. Love to see it. love a revenge game. So, uh, Alex and, uh, and Gabe, you guys get my third star. Uh, second star, I’m going to go to a guy we didn’t talk too too much about today, even though I thought he had an incredible game. Uh, Josh Moresy. He’s again showing us that he is the team’s number one defenseman by a country mile at the moment. Uh, he’s he’s kind of carrying around the corpse that is uh, R&D core. And, uh, you know, he’s making it look good offensively, defensively. There was one point, I think, in the first period where he went out just for a skate like it was the 1980s with the puck on his stick, circling the net, coming back around, draws a penalty during it. It was it was a thing of beauty. So, uh, Jomo, the kind of unsung hero of, uh, of the team, uh, he’s going to get my second star to make sure. And, uh, number one star, no question. Mark Shley was an absolute beast today. Uh, showing the Kings, you know, what’s what. Uh, like I said, I think Shley dominates these these afternoon games. And uh today was no different. So uh yeah, the the Mark Shley master class gets number one star. I like it. I like it. And we’re going to get to Sil’s question before getting out of here, but I’m going to go to my three stars first. So I’m going to go H. There’s a few places I want to go. I like where you went with it. I’m gonna start today. The third star being Josh Moresy. I’m gonna go Morsy as the second or sorry as the third star. Uh clearly had a big night from the point on a night where not only are the bottom four D pairings not great, but the D got lost a guy and we’re down to five guys. So you saw Moresy really cycling through pairs. Um choices TK had pointed this stat earlier. I just wanted to highlight it when talking Morrisy today. gave the shot attempts battle with Morsy on the ice. Jets won the battle 15 to13 with him on the bench. They lost it 14 to 22. Um clearly he was able to shift the uh shift the tides in this game from the back end for a team that desperately needs it with what’s going on on their back end. Um second star I’m going to go. We didn’t talk him up much but he is the MVP of this team. Connor Halabuk um made what I thought was a lot more gradea a saves than maybe we’ve discussed throughout this game. It the Dzone had come undone for a long stretch of this one and we’re seeing a lot of the low to high or the sidewall to high slot looks where LA had really gotten some quality looks on the Jets through the middle portion of this game and Hella Buck was absolutely dialed. There was two or three where he goes post to post and makes the sprawling out save. One of which he uh made sure to get the poke check on once the sprawl had missed. I thought Connor Halbuk was absolutely dialed in this one and he’s going to get my second star. And the first star in this one, no doubt about it, has to be Mark Schaeley, who gets two big goals, one to tie this up late in a second period. That was all LA. Honorable shout out to Morgan Baron on this goal and the physical uh turnover he makes on um Quinton Biffield. Yep. To turn up the ice. Uh and then gets to the net, win wins a battle versus Cody CC and makes a phenomenal tip for the game-winning goal. Mark Shiffley, welcome to the year 2025 2026 with a big statement like that. One more on the way out. S asks a big question that we’re going to be start hearing more and more about it looks like. Sill says, “You hear the talk about the Larry extension conversations.” So, just to update people, I think it was Drager reporting on TSN that the Jets and Larry’s camp have started preliminary discussions. This is a deal I think is going to come together probably pretty quickly and pretty painlessly. I’m really curious to see how they structure it and I’m really curious if they go long like if you see them go long term with it ending Larry’s career in Winnipeg. I wonder if coming off a hip surgery if they’ll see the AEV get a bit of a discount because of the long term or if they go shorter with higher AEV. Um but I’m expecting the captain to get signed pretty quick by the Winnipeg Jets. What do you think about that? Yeah, the uh I think you nailed it. this isn’t going to be a super difficult uh set of negotiations. Uh you know, preliminary talks quote unquote I think are all that’s happened because it was a you’re saying yeah great this is kind you know like it’s not going to be a contentious uh negotiation process pro process this time around. So yeah I think this gets done fairly easy. I’m leaning on the uh to the side of they’re going to go longterm with a slightly lower AAV, giving him the the longer term security, the extra year or two that uh you know that he can see there. Um but I would I be surprised if they go actually I think I would be a little bit surprised if they did a a short term with a higher mark for him. I think it gets done long and uh at a slightly team friendlier uh side. Yeah, I think at his age they’ll lock him in long and end his career here, which is good for both sides in my opinion. Yeah, one more comment in KFC. We trust says, “Gonna say it. Baron is faster than Taves and we need speed on line to move Baron up and Taves down.” I can’t say I’m buying that one yet. Baron’s been great on the PK. I’m not buying him on a five on five second line roll personally just yet, but we’ll we’ll we’ll put that one in the back of our heads in KFC. We trust appreciate the comment. We’re going to get out of here. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekends. We will be back Monday afternoon. Another afternoon game, I think 12:00 start against the New York Islanders. Yep, you got it. And we will see if the Winnipeg Jets are able to build off their first win of the season. I hope you all enjoy your weekends. Thank you for being here and uh we’ll see you Monday. Good night, everybody.

  1. Thanks Nik and Mikey.. great show, I had Thanksgiving day so only got to watch your show later.

I watched parts of the game but not the entire thing so I will put my 3 stars as:

    1. Scheifele– he's playing for his dad this year, it's clear to see. Grief is a motivating factor.
    2. Helle– he knows right now he's got to be the hero every night, if possible and he's been really good, and today was no exception.
    3. Jonathan Toews— he's impacting every single game. By his faceoffs, by his positioning on the ice. Can see he's well aware that he's on the wrong side of 30 as far as speed goes, but between his back checks and faceoffs and his defensive work, he's a difference maker in every way but scoring. And the scoring will come, I'm sure of it. His pedigree is obvious.

Honourable mention to our D pairs today too, and Barron… he's having fun and getting opportunities out there and making a difference too.
