Calais Campbell, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Paris Johnson Jr., Media Availability | Week 6 vs. Colts

Richard has been around a while. What was your reaction to that part? I mean, um, you know, I think it, uh, it’s good of him to to apologize. You know, Amari handled it very, very well. I mean, I think he was disappointed in himself and, um, you know, and of course, uh, you know, coach went a little far, you know, but, um, you know, it’s over and done with, handled. And then how much, I guess, JG you play, what’s it kind of meant? What have you enjoyed about playing? I think JG is a phenomenal coach. I think he uh you know has all the good messaging, a lot of passion, loves the game, you know, loves us and uh you know I think everybody here you know he really wanted to be here so he has a lot of passion and love and respect for us and you know it shows you know and I think that’s you know something you want in a you know in a head coach um you know somebody you know believes in you you know and wants to see you win. He called the locker room dope as you guys have responded from that loss. How would you kind of consider the vibe of this team coming off that loss going into another one? now. Yeah. I mean, I think it’s just, I guess you could say, uh, hungry, you know, is how I would describe it, you know. I mean, you know, I I know what kind of guys we have here. There’s a lot of guys that, you know, in any setting, in any kind of battle, you know, I in my foxhole, you know, you know, I can see one in my peripheral right now in Dalvin, you know, Dvin Thomasson. Uh, he’s, you know, one of the, you know, just most physical presence, just dominant guys that I know when it’s all said and done, you know, any moment, you know, if we go into war, he got my back, I know I’m good. you know, same thing. Buddha, Mac, you know, you go down the list of of guys that I just know, you know, that are elite and going to respond. And we just, you know, you can see the energy is contagious. Guys are locked in, focusing on the small details. You know, when you lose a game, you know, three games in a row, you know, uh, a lot of it is just like, hey, get back to the basics. Get back to the basics. Little things done well over and over again. Keep sawing wood, no excuses, and just make the next play, you know, and that’s the messaging. When you have a game like that on Sunday though with just so many things kind of going wrong, how do you how do you kind of get everybody positive again and as a leader? What’s kind of the the messaging? Mental toughness. You know, uh I mean it’s football, right? You know, the the hard part is we we let them get into the game where now the ball can bounce their way. You know, I mean, you know, it’s it’s football, right? You know, the ball sometimes going bounce other teams way. You know, I mean, you can’t control that part of it. Uh but you know, I mean, you know, we made mistakes that left for them to even have a chance and that sucks. But you know, I mean, you can’t let a game like that beat you twice and especially when you’re in a three-game skid. Like, you know, the biggest thing is just get one win. Stop the bleeding. Get one win. Win win this win the day. Win this next moment. Win win until you get a you know, zero’s on the clock and you got a a W in the win column when it matters. Kas, now you guys head to India for a pretty tough Indianapolis Colts team. What do they look like right now to you guys in terms of that? Explosive. Explosive. Well coached, taking care of the ball, you know, uh, balanced, you know, can do a little bit of everything. I mean, you running back, I mean, he’s he’s he’s playing as the best running back in the league right now. Uh, you know, and, you know, I’ve had to chess play with him, play against him a few times, and I’ve seen him, you know, firsthand. I mean, he’s he’s explosive. He can do some damage. you know, you got, you know, uh, uh, probably the best overall O line that we’ll that we’ll face. You got weapons at receiver. You know, you got, you know, skilled guys that can run really Chris routes underneath and, you know, break and you got the big, you know, big play receivers that can push down the ball in the field. You got a quarterback who’s putting it all together. I mean, it’s, you know, you got one of the better tight ends in the game right now. He’s a young buck, but he’s playing really good. I mean, when you look at the tape, you’re like, “Okay, I see why they’re they got they’re winning ball games.” But at the same time, I feel like, you know, um it’s a great challenge for us. You know, it’s a great challenge for us to see what we’re made of. You know, I think that we believe this defense can be elite. We believe this defense can be the best in the league. And so, this is a great chance for us to go out there and prove it. I mean, yeah, I just for me it’s frustrating. I just want to put a whole I want to be more consistent, you know, especially with my play. I think, you know, New Orleans last game, you know, I’ve shown what I can do a little bit and I know other games haven’t been the same and I kind of had a half game in Seattle. So, uh, I just want to, you know, be more consistent, especially in my play, but hopefully I can just carry on. You know, the past six quarters have been good for me. So, um, obviously we need to get a win more first and foremost and kind of just go from there. I was about to say, how are you dealing with this? You know, it’s been a tough threeame stretch. Obviously, last second losses, the Titans game was obviously really rough down the stretch. How How are you dealing with it? Yeah, you got to move on. Uh we got we have to play a good team in Indie. So, I mean, can’t dwell on the past too much. So, you only learn from it and just get better. You talk about being more consistent. What can you do to improve that? Um I just come to execution. Like I tell you guys all the time is execution. What did you feel better with? What’s your trust in Jacobe to come in play? I have full trust in Jacobe. Uh me and Jacobe get some passes in know after practice, you know, when Kyler was, you know, the starter. And um I think just developing that kind of relationship uh after practice he doesn’t get much know throws in practice a little bit so he kind of wants to get his arm loose out there. So I’ve been throwing with him a little bit. Uh so now I have full trust in Jacobe. I think the biggest thing he’s been such a good leader and mentor for me um you know since he’s got here. So uh I’m excited you know to see if he gets the opportunity. Behind the scenes he’s helped you out a lot. Yes definitely definitely 1,000%. Definitely. JG said with the extra long week of practice before this last game, there were some special things you were focusing on more. What were those things? Uh, you know, just going to keep that between, you know, you know, in the building between us. Uh, obviously I got to continue to work on those things. Um, but yeah, what do you feel better with in this game and in the New Orleans game compared to maybe some of those week two to four? I mean, helps catch an explosive. I think both games that that certainly helps and then you kind of get in a rhythm from there. the type of catches when you go up and kind of as they say moss people. You’ve done that the last two games, one for the touchdown and one against two guys against Tennessee. What What is uh it’s got to be gratifying to go up and and just fight for a kid. Yeah, definitely. Um I think you have to adjust maybe how you’ve done things in the past and I think I’ve been doing that a good job of that recently. Just maybe from maybe last year a little bit. uh kind of learning from I wouldn’t say mistakes but just learning from experience uh sort of things last year just knowing okay got to go up and get it a little bit so something I continue I got to work on obviously it’s been good to see some know positive results from it but uh definitely something that I’ve had to kind of adjust small things yeah small things small things everything yeah small things what kind of issues does the Colts defense present this week I think they force a lot of turnovers so obviously we got to take care of football um they do a lot of different things, you know, especially in the secondary to kind of give different looks. Um, I think they’ve been playing with a lot of leads, too. So, kind of force teams to be onedimensional. So, we got to stay on schedule and defense going to do their job, do their part as well. Um, so I think we just got to, you know, do our part, you know, taking care of football, generate explosives when they’re there, but also just kind of stay on schedule as well. What feels better to you as a receiver going up and mossing a dude or leaving a guy in the dust with you around? Moss for sure. Yeah, for sure. For sure. For sure. Had a couple back shoulder plays that have worked out well. What goes into those being successful plays for you guys? Again, kind of like the same thing of going up and catching the balls and just experiencing a little bit of last year. Just be on the same page with one. Um, kind of seeing the same things out there a little bit. So, um, I just say that like you cross the goal line on that one. I didn’t know where I was on the field to be honest with you. Um, I wish it was a touchdown, but I’m thankful for the catch as well. Have you ever noticed how your career stats so far similar to your Yeah. I mean, yeah. I don’t know if necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, honestly. But, um, I think just how the way the world has been working so far. Hopefully have the same career. Good thing to have those kind of numbers early in your career, right? It’s perspective. All depends on how you look at it. What has to happen for this offense just to start clicking for four? I think it’s time that we just continue to do what we’ve been doing. um out the gate with that spark that we have with our offense, but I think we just have to continue to make that thing last, you know, and not put ourselves in position to be able to fight back in the end, stay in the game, but just keep that spark and maintain it. You guys have hung your head on the run for the last couple years since you’ve been here. What’s going on this year with that part? Yeah, again, we’re just trying to take this one day at a time. I’m not trying to spend any time to look back to dwell on the things that aren’t going to be able to allow us to improve this upcoming week. Again, I think that’s on the line. I think that’s on the pad level. That’s that’s been the emphasis we’ve had today. It’s on the pad level. It’s been on that surge to be able to put that on our backs. Make sure that thing makes sure we’re flying downhill. When you uh practice is one thing, but when you look over and you see Will Hernandez in the game huddle, what did that mean to you guys? Yeah, I mean I think it’s awesome that Will was able to step up, you know, after the injury he had and how fast he was able to rehab himself to be back in uh game shape. I think that’s commendable. No Kyler at practice today. What’s it mean having back there now instead of Kyler? Yeah, I mean I think regardless of you know who is back there um I know that, you know, these are guys that both put in time on the field and they they know what they’re doing. Jacobe knows the offense in and out. Um, I think regardless of what the end result’s going to be when it comes to Sunday, I know that both guys take care of the business and I know the guys up front will fight just as hard, you know. How much does it help when a guy probably has as much experience as he does around the league? Yeah. I mean, I think a guy like that that’s been in the league as as long as he has and uh he knows the ins and outs of the system, I think will be awesome. Um, to have a guy like that back there that that knows what he’s doing. He has a patience. He has a vision. Um, and then I think either way we’ll be excited. You have a little different style and cadence than No, I was about to say, you know, I’d say JG said he’d apologize to the the team about the Amari incident on on Monday and everything. How did you think that apology was received in the locker room, just how that whole thing was handled? Yeah. Um, um, I know he did apologize in front of the team to Omari. Um, and you know, I know where he was starting to come from. You know, I’m young, but I guess I’m a little old school in a way to where, you know, I you know, I also believe in in tough coaching and I also believe in in holding accountable. Um, but you know, I think the team received that well, but I mean the guys still love JG. They love his approach. They love the toughness. And that’s just Ohio ball from, you know, he’s from Cleveland, you know. So, I grew up kind of on that same kind of, you know, let’s get this thing right, you know, but at the same time, be able to pick up a maring. I think that balance too and I think Amari he um he took that in well and obviously you know we’re back doing our thing and there’s juice and the energy here is good from everybody. You were right there when coach went by. Did you see anything that you thought was just outrageous in that exchange? Honestly, I wasn’t even starting to to focus on anything like that. Um during that moment I was still just talking to Amari. still just starting um to talk in his ear to speak some positivity because I think it’s um really easy to be in that moment to let the emotion o overtake and say something that you don’t want to say. So, I was trying um my best just to to be um to use my voice to speak some positivity to him because I know let that happen to anybody else in the locker room. That’s what they need most in that moment, some positivity cuz there’s still some minutes on the clock. You know, it’s not the clock was 000. You know, we still had some time on the clock. So, it’s like, hey, let’s go. You know, we still need you. Keep doing your thing. You’re professional. Let’s go. You know what I mean? So, I think in that moment, not even allowing that to to phase anything because mission still the mission. There’s still time on the clock, you know, and that’s the type of leader you want to be right there in this locker room. Yeah, exactly. I feel like I’ve learned from um the guys the guys on this team that I think um just knowing the best way to um talk different people. Like for example, um not trying to put any names on, for example, it hasn’t happened, but like if I’m talking to Evan Brown, that’s my guy. And I know Evan a little bit different than the approach to Amari. So when I come to Evan some similar I know I can get in Evan’s grill and Evan can get in my grill because that’s just our communication style. You know what I mean? But um I feel like trying to get to know the guys know the communication style to know that the approach I’m going to have with Amari versus approach me Marvin first comes Dante first comes Clayas it’s all kind of different. So, I feel like as a leader, getting to know each man in the locker room and um how they love to get that response back to pull them back into the game mode as fast as possible. You know, I know you really don’t get the chance to see what running backs do until you watch the film, but when you look at a guy like Bam Knight who, you know, was fighting hard to make the roster and he has a couple hard-nosed runs, what do you like about his game? Oh, I just love the way he comes downhill. um especially even get a chance to watch him on the return in the return game. Special teams think it’s awesome when the ball lands in his hand. So, I’m excited to see what he does this Sunday. What do you think this team’s doing right now after that crazy loss Sunday with all those circus like plays that happened? How’s the team’s attitude where you guys have the team’s attitude is full steam ahead on Indianapolis Colts and that’s the way it should be and I’m glad that’s the only thing on our minds right now.
