Minnesota Vikings News Dump (10.14.2025) | McCarthy Back, Cashman Window Open, Bill Callahan Time?

[Music] What’s going on, Jerome? It’s beautiful Tuesday. Birds are chirping and stuff and it’s time for another Vikings news dump. So, knocking on all the wood since uh the Vikings were back at practice on Monday, but Jordan Addison seems to have stayed on the path, stayed out of trouble, which is good because for my money, Addison is the best wide receiver, too, in the National Football League. Vikings should consider extending him long term since they have this nice little window before the guy paid JJ McCarthy and it’s gonna be good. It’s gonna be good to go, right? Uh Kevin McConnell fed the local media jackles on Monday and basically sort of vague about the quarterback situation. Now, he did say that Carson Wentz shoulder injury to his non-throwing shoulder uh will be practicing as well. Jay J. McCarthy had a good day uh had had a good week of by-week work at TCO. uh probably babysitting Jordan Anderson. I don’t know. I don’t know. Uh but also McCarthy is out there on the practice field on Monday as well. War at Sports Illustrated. Kevin McConnell isn’t naming his starter at quarterback for Saturday’s g Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Both JJ McCarthy ankle and Carson one shoulder will practice on Monday and throughout the week. Want to see how this week plays out for us. So you know JJ McCarthy was out there on the practice field and ankle gate. What’s going on? Uh, now ankle is probably taped, but no brace, no spats, no nothing like that. Jumping on it, movement skills. Josh Macau is very interested. Uh, you know, Josh Macau’s pants were a couple inches shorter. He’d have capries like Mike McDaniel. So, yeah. Uh, and also Carson Wentz did have that uh that shoulder brace on uh even at a basically bit of a walkthrough practice on Monday. So, I don’t know. Like honestly, it feels like there’s a spot where JJ McCarthy will return to practice this week, get him revved up and warmed up. Maybe he returns short week against the Chargers. Uh but it it does feel like Carson Wentz is going to be the starter on Sunday. Just gut feeling right now. Uh but also, of course, the starting quarterback meets with the media jackals on Wednesdays. Uh so TBD, uh which quarterback that is going to be, I I feel like it is G. Oo, Jaden Daniels. Let’s go. So right now the Falcons are up 21-7 against the Buffalo Bills at halftime and then the commies just scored with Jaden Daniels touchdown action. Uh they’re down 13 to7 against the against the Bears. I think that the Bills and the commies come back and win both the games. Put put on wax. That’s right. Uh so I I don’t know. I feel like this is not a soft mentioning as everyone keeps talking about like Jaden McCarthy is going to be the guy, but he he does want Kevin McConnell does want the ankle to be 100%. Cuz McCarthy’s mobility is a huge weapon as well as just a full week of practice. And Kevin McConnell made a good point. McCarthy has really only had one full week of practice to prepare for a game in the last year and a half, right? the the full week of practice leading up to the Bears game because week two got interrupted by life. It happens and I know practice is important especially for a young quarterback. So, let’s uh let’s not jump ship quite yet. We still haven’t seen Jay Darthy play a single down with Christian Derisaw uh and or Jordan Addison who he has great rapport with. So, we’ll see. Also, we’ll see the Margaret and Rockco walk-athons going on. So, Rockco and his class are in the books. Uh they they got numero uno uh for his grade. Love to see that. But although Margaret school they’re doing they’re bringing the planetarium to the school. I don’t know how that works. It’s kind of awesome. But that’s the goal for them. Also awesome is uh the linebacker, green dot wearer enthusiast, former pride of the Minnesota Golden Gopher walk-on, former pride of Eden Prairie High School, Blake Cashman outside. How about that? His 21-day return to practice window off injured reserve has been opened and the Vikings need him. The Vikings need him because, you know, the defense has not been great against the run. and Cashman besides being a fantastic instant run, great coverage linebacker as well, just getting everyone lined up, calling twists and stunts and games up front, just seeing things on the field. It’s great, man. And Cashman, who you got dinged up with the ham, he looks like he’s getting very emotional. Just I love this game, man. But he had a hamster in week one against the Bears and went on in deserve now is going to be back in full force. I I think that he does play against the Eagles though they’ll make a spot on the roster for him feeling like himself again. Block a Blake Cashman return to practice field Monday for the first time since week one. Also, I think he got engaged. Congratulations. It’s awesome, man. Uh but you’ve seen Cashman like he wasn’t just on the sideline being inert. He was in he’s out there talking to Ivan Pace Jr. talking to Eric Wilson, talking to linebackers, helping them out. So, I don’t know. coaching in in the cards after after a great story career. It’s very possible. Also, another player return to practice. Uh Ali Vikings head coach Kevin McConnell said right tackle Brian O’Neal uh Diamond Jackson, Michael Jurgens will also participate in practice in some capacity. So, we’ll talk about uh Jackson in a separate video, but Jurgens be good for offensive line depth as well as Brian O’Neal. I don’t think that he returns this week off the MCL sprain, but it’s good signs, right? So, returning in some capacity, even if it’s limited uh with some work here. Again, I think he’s a long shot to play on Sunday next Thursday against the Chargers out in LA. Could be a better shot or certainly the Lions game after that. But it’s a good sign and especially after that injury happened against the Steelers, you’re just thinking, why us? Why is this happening? you know, one of the best right tackles in the game just goes down. It’s no bueno, man. Also, something that is bueno is tell us when Matelis this week’s topic was uh how did you choose your jersey number and Isaiah Raj Rush uh picked number two because the I got a second chance with the Vikings. So, number two, it’s great. Hey, we need more than two defensive touchdowns from you, man. So, hey, Pro Bowl allpro cornerback Isaiah Rogers, we need more. More is required. It was really good. Also, he’s been great in coverage this year. Andrew Bagel Depalo, number 42. Uh, and basically, he showed up and it was in his locker and he was number 42, which you long snappers always have weird numbers. They’re usually 40 series numbers, even though I I feel I feel like Madden has done this generation wrong because long snappers on Madden are always listed as tight ends. I mean, sometimes it’s true. Usually it’s not, but 42, would it do? Sure. Yeah. Uh, also, so some news around the National Football League. Hey, if you had Brian Callahan as the first coach to be fired, you’re lying because you had Mike McDaniel as number one. Uh but Shaft Brian Kalan’s tenure ends with 4 and9 record. He becomes the first NFL head coach fired this season. So the Titans part in ways because uh Mike Frabel and the Patriots at 4-2 are rolling into town and that’s going to be a poop show. Like the Titans are a poop show in their own right where we talked about this before. it it’s hard to be a consistently good NFL team in the South, especially in college where there’s a he very heavy college football presence, right? Because Tennessee, I mean, the Titans might be the third most popular team in the state of Tennessee behind the Balls and Vanderbilt. It’s kind of weird, right? Or Memphis Showboats. Yeah. But I don’t know, like name a consistently good NFL team operating in the south. I guess the Bucks over the last couple years, sure. But it’s hard to find that consistent success because if you don’t have a fan base just clamoring for a success, there’s no pressure on ownership to do anything about it, right? Because I feel like even at during the best of times, you’re a second or third place team in that city and state. Just the SEC, it just means more. But Brian Callahan gone. Also, his father, Bill Kalahan, one of the best offensive line coaches in the game is available does have some connections with Kevin Okonnell. Now, I I know what you’re saying. Oh, the Titans line was bad. Have you seen the personnel? And I know there’s reports that Bill Callahan said that he was going to retire. The Titans job was his last job. We’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see. But honestly, having Bill Calhan in there, I know that Chris Cooper had a bit of a reprieve week five against the Browns, but I mean, let’s say that Bill Callahan, Jeff Stoutland of the Eagles are some of the best offensive line coaches in the game. There you go. Also, you know, if the Titans are putting a stamp on the season, just mailing it in, Jeffrey Simmons for a one, f them picks. Like Jeffrey Simmons with his defensive line would just be unfair. Like, hey, actually, how about Jeffrey Simmons and a two and we’ll throw in Jonathan Allen and maybe a Jaylen Naylor. I don’t know. I don’t know, man. Also, something I do know is that Pelisero, the NFL suspending Lions DB Brian Branch one game without pay for his altercation with Guju Smith Schustster after Sunday night’s loss in Kansas City. So basically, Brian Brandt said that, “Oh, he was being bullied.” Yeah, cuz Ju Guu blocked him in the side and Pat Patrick Mahomes talking some ish after scoring a touchdown. This is exactly what you get. So you have a team predicated on biting kneecaps and all the brashness and boldness and guess what? Bullies hate when you stand up to them and pop them right in the face. Right? So that that’s exactly what happened. And now now Brian Branch is whining. He’s trying to throw hands on the field. Uh Brian Branch’s punishment should be he has to star in some of Juu’s Tik Toks. It’s what it is, right? But there’s a reckoning coming, right? So the Lions acting all big and bad over these last couple years. Storm is coming. Paper champions, paper tigers, paper Lions, paper everything, man. Can’t wait. Lastly, so former Vikings legend Zadius Smith is retiring. Rap sheet. Eagles pass rusher Zadius Smith announced on Instagram that he’s retiring. So the Eagles have a ton of injuries on defense as it is and their pass rush has been relatively inert, but basically Zadere Smith saw uh Christian Darasaw deuces. I’m out. I’m gone. Now I know Zidary was only with the team for one year. Did make the Pro Bowl. Had double digit sacks. his trade did freeze some things up where the the Vikings are good to go. So, I don’t know. Quas is doing some good business there. Actually, we’ll we’ll see what the Vikings do uh as a trade deadline approaches again. Give a little bit give a little bit of your Simmons to me.
