  3. Going back to the preseason the Wings have now played the Leafs 4 out of the last 5 games and are 4-0 against them.

    Doesn’t seem like a fluke.

    Also watched Dangles post game video on yesterday’s game and it was interesting hearing it from a Leafs fans perspective. I have no problem with the guy and the TML fans have been nearly unanimous in praising Talbot which is nice.

  4. Has anyone wise received a Raymond/Seider Centennial since the captaincy’s were announced? My very lovely wife surprised me with a Seider, but it doesn’t have an assistant patch! I plan on calling the store tomorrow and I’ll be there Friday, but was curious if anyone else is in the same situation.

    If they give me the patch I’d be happy to take it to Vintage Detroit if they don’t put it on themselves!

  6. Todd’s message was received loud and clear after game 1. Love seeing that type of impact and team immediately picking up 2 wins against one of top divisional teams, especially the way they dominated the first game.

    Also can’t say it enough but Larkin’s ability to win the most important offensive zone faceoffs is incredible and needs recognition. It’s on command when there’s a big faceoff in their zone. The 1st and 3rd goals yesterday were a direct result of this. Needed to win a big faceoff in the zone and it’s exactly what he did

  8. Copp Compher MBN is probably the best “Grind line” since the actual grind line. I love actually watching that 3rd line right now.

    JVR is going to help, I don’t know where to put him right now unless raymond is out and we go Larkin, finnie, JVR.

    Kasper, Kane and Cat look good.

    Finally, Ras is basically invisible, appleton has some good spots to his game and I’d rather have soda than ras. Or anyone other than ras.

    Chariot is being physical and I like it, Seider looks like seider.
    Ed/ ASP is fun to watch.

    Overall tortonto is a better team but my god they will miss marner more than they knew.

  10. Great to get the W yesterday, but getting more than doubled up in shots is not a great recipe for consistent success, especially with a defense that is still finding its structure. Also not great for my blood pressure.

    Cam came up huge yesterday.

  11. Any word on Danielson? Is he still injured? He’d be a perfect candidate to play a few games if Raymond needs some time to heal. Though I doubt Todd wants two rookies on the first line.

    Fingers crossed we get some good news about Raymond today.

With those two wins against Toronto in the books, I’d say just winning one of the upcoming games against Florida, Tampa, and Edmonton would turn this opening gauntlet of six games into a success. Win two and the Wings will be off to a better start than even an unapologetic homer like me would have expected.

  14. What else does this team need to become a strong contender?

    1) Solid netminder. I think we have one in the system.

    2) More better D. I think we will get that in Anton Johansson and eventually Nikita Tyurin (whom I think will be huge surprise). But I still think we are good in this area and it is and will improve with the existing players.

    What else? Or who else? Some help needed here…

  18. I presume for the team to be a strong contender they will need Danielson, Bear, and Buchelnikov to hit. Of course it can also be Kiiskinen and Genborg. Any thoughts here folks?

    I think Buchelnikov decides to come to NA next year. I think it will be pretty seamless overall to fit in quickly.

    Danielson making the jump to the roster this season would be cool. If Ras had to be moved that is fine with me.

  19. ASP had some tough plays leading to the Leafs goals yesterday, but I’m hoping Todd gives him leash to learn the pro game instead of cutting his minutes. He’s still a net positive on the ice.

    My hope is ASP can take over the first-unit PP QB by early next season. I love Seider but he’s not a natural fit there in my opinion. And Mo is already averaging near 26 minutes a game this season. I don’t think that’s sustainable.

  21. Would be nice to know Danielson’s injury and how long he will be out. They say it is his wrist, but hopefully nothing broken.

  24. If you could only keep one of Ras, Soda, or Berggren, who would you choose?

    Seriously feels like the kids may force that decision. Mazur with a hat trick in his first game, Lombardi with a 3 assist night right after. Neither are big, but could fit the same “skill guy” mold that Berggren does. And let’s be honest, Ras and Soda don’t play like they’re big either.

  26. The Wings have some time, but the better replacements for Ras, Compher, and Copp will help things out.

  29. The main criticism of the off-season is that the Wings only made “lateral moves”.

    Well, I’d say Appleton is a significant upgrade over the likes of Motte/Fischer. His PK work has been great the last two games. And while it was only for half a game, he was able to fill in on the top line in a pinch. And not only held his own, but scored a goal. And if JVR is the Tarasenko replacement, that’s a big upgrade. JVR is just a way more versatile. He can play on the 4th line. Or he can move up anywhere in the lineup. Taraskenko wasn’t a good fit in the bottom six, but also had lost a step and couldn’t play on the top lines.

    It obviously sucks that Raymond went out. But yesterdays game, where you have this situation where lines needs to be juggled on the fly, really showed the versatility of the lineup compared to last years very clunky lineup.

  33. Obviously we have 3 rough games coming up vs Florida, Tampa and then Edmonton, but after that it’s relatively easy games until the end of November. With one more win in those 3 games I think we are gonna have a really good opening to the season. Getting 3 wins vs Montreal, Toronto, Toronto, Florida, Tampa and Edmonton would be a really good result.

  36. Panthers, Lighting, Oilers are the next 3 games. just…be cool if we start 2-4-0

    We got sabers, islanders, and st louis x2 after that. A nice little treat. Then the california trip, which honestly should be a sweep this year.

    And then remember when we did it again yesterday? All while Auston Thews put up a whopping Zero shooting percentage?
