He still made some pretty bone headed decisions tbf. That slant call that almost/should have resulted in a pick 6 would have changed the whole narrative of his game.

I think the biggest benefit is just getting the play in quicker. the actual playcalls aren’t necessarily better – pistol = run, shotgun = pass

I’m rewatching the game right now, pausing and rewatching plays. Just finished the 1st quarter.
First impressions, the offensive linemen are doing great at moving to the second level. Neuzil is winning his 1v1s, Bergeron and Lindstrom are easily handling the linebackers.
There’s been more play action, a couple of them standing out because it’s Bijan coming in motion on a sweep-like play, with one actual sweep to mix it up.
The plays are definitely getting in faster. We’re snapping the ball with 8 seconds on the playclock left most of the time. Nothing even close to a delay of game penalty yet.
I see this so often – were you guys not watching the same game as me? They had to burn two TOs because the play calls weren’t coming in. They very clearly had issues with the basic management of the game. Penix then didn’t have time to read defense and couldn’t have confidence in the play call. He spiraled and the game was fucked.
Zac Robinson isn’t an idiot. I know some of you think he tells Penix to only throw flats and checkdowns but in reality he does call plays designed to attack the middle of the field and shockingly even deep routes. Additionally – our WRs couldn’t make the correct choice routes and weren’t on the same page with Penix (hence firing the WR coach).
Panthers game was a mess – I don’t expect this team to always look like that.
Playcalling has been a lot better, but I have one critique.
This is going to sound crazy but when Charlie Woerner is the lone back we need to hand it off to him like once or twice a game to keep defenses honest. We had a 3rd and 2 last night against the Bills and we were in this formation. Bills backed way off the line and immediately dropped in coverage knowing we never run with him back there. I think Charlie could barrell forward in situations like that. Again, it’s crazy thinking about handing it to him, especially when we have the backs we have, but I think it would help with some issues we have with being predictable.

The play clock quit getting down to one second with him there which has been big
No real changes to his playcalling, but c’mon giving the ball anyway to Bijan seems to be the easiest design to an offense. Pun intended even a caveman can do it
45 year diehard here, anyone else just a little concerned we only scored 24 coming off a bye, almost threw a pick 6 when we were up 7 and in fg range, that we consistently go backwards running the ball inside the 10 and our qb consistently gets throws tipped by defensive linemen? All of these are ZR issues in my opinion. Hope it’s 40+ years of negative falcon vibes for me but dang our offense doesn’t look good to me…..rant over about ZR
I’d like to see a winning offense without Bijan and/or London
Bijan and Drake being amazing is masking the crap play calling. We got 2 studs that still make plays even when the entire stadium knows what’s coming.
Nah man. I was at the game last night, and the amount of times our back TE was in the backfield was infuriating
Gotta work on scoring more points. Bijan and Drake’s greatness are dragging this offense along, but the offense still has issues putting points on the board.
Bijan only has what, 4 TDs on the year? As good as he is and with as much production as he’s generating, he needs to be like those backs from the 90s and early 00s where they rack up 25-30 a year.
I don’t discount the fact that Penix and ZR can talk to each other face-to-face after every series sit down and look at film together. They’re just has to be a difference between doing that with a guy sitting next to you and doing it over a headset.
The Pistol is still not a serious NFL formation.
