Philadelphia 76ers Practice Media Availability ๐๏ธ | Coach Nurse and Kelly Oubre Jr. | 10.14.25
You were just told that Tren can participate in parts of practice. I guess just where is he at? And do you feel like given the limitations that he’s had? Do you have like a firm grant of how he fits into all of this? Do you feel like it’s been sort of a missed opportunity to not have him out there as much as you probably? Yeah, I mean, yeah, for sure it’s been a missed opportunity. I mean, he he did, you know, some of the introductory stuff in practice today, so I would imagine there’s still a little ways to go before we even get him out there and in some live action. Hopefully not. Hopefully, it’ll be soon. Um, yeah, I think I think that makes evaluating it really hard. He hasn’t really done any anything in the fall or the training camp to date. Um, but when we get him back, we’ll we’ll throw him in there and see what he’s got. It’s all we can do. Yep. Is that a shock you’re kind of with? I’m not I’m not sure. Um, to be honest, I mean, I think that he is a good shooter. Like, if you would watch his drill numbers and all those things, he does make a high percentage. Um, but the reason I say I’m not sure is I’m I’m I don’t know. I just I just want to see if he can get them in some type of rhythm in a real game, right? Because I think last preseason he was making some and taking some and we were and then it kind of did not materialize. So I I I’m not like planning on it to materializing, right? But it, you know, I think we’ll still continue to do it. But I just think that sometimes, you know, you’re trailing and they’re just not going to guard you. That’s not if you can make it, it’s it’s a pretty good option sometimes. Or once in a while you put your fiveman in the corner and they just go to help some drive and there’s a corner three for a for a fiveman and it’s again a pretty good option sometimes. So we’ll see. We’ll see. A couple days from the scrimmage kind of you guys had those couple days. How did you respond to that? Yeah. Yeah. Um, from from all accounts, he’s he responded fine. He uh was in practice again today with uh um you know, looking good, feeling good. So, um he just did the beginning parts of practice today, but that’s as planned, right? So, um but I do think he responded well to it. So, look like we’re continuing to cross thresholds. Do you think there’s any chance that Jaw plays in that final season? Uh, I think there’s some chance. Yeah. I don’t I don’t think we’re there yet. I It’s a little early in the week to decide, but uh, you know, I think it could still could go either way. We got we got some thresholds to get over yet, I think, before we get to that point. was part of his house and then the availability he’s uh he you know he’s he’s uh progressed a little further than the last time I’ve seen you guys. He was in in the in the practice uh today again for the introductory parts and keeps kind of inching inching a little further along. Um, so again, I’m just like waiting for them to be cleared, guys like him and Watford and they be cleared, you know, for for some more contact and then for full contact, right? So, but he was out there and and uh similar capacity that he’s been could be. Yeah, could could be. I I think that um uh I think there’s a group of guys kind of fighting that out and where that lands I don’t know if it even lands with a big or a forward or a guard even maybe sometimes and I think it probably is going to probably going to continue to move based on availability of other people and all this kind of stuff. So, um, but yeah, I think he’s in the convers I would have I would have said, you know, two months ago when we signed him that yes, he’d be in the conversation for it at least at least at least in a battle some kind of battle for it, but it’s hard to say now when really haven’t seen him at all, right? So, but I would imagine if he’s healthy and he gets out there and gets in shape and gets gets playing that he’ll be in the battle for for playing time for sure. Yep. Good. No, he looks good. He’s uh he’s um probably in my estimation um probably better condition than I assumed he would be. Um don’t don’t see really any issues there. Um he’s he’s but he look and he looks the same. He’s explosive. He’s shooting it. He’s he’s playing hard at both ends. He’s scoring the ball. So it looks looks pretty good. You know, not not nearly as far behind as I thought he would be, which is good. And I think he’s must have done a great job getting ready, right? Getting ready and taking care of himself. So that’s good to see. Guys that good? Yeah. Um it’s just about us kind of competing. one, which builds camaraderie, sharpening our each other’s tools. Um, you know, just figuring out different ways to score against different body types and obviously the cheat code was out there today. So, um, you know, it was good to just guard him and, you know, have him see different bodies as well, but it was fun. It’s just all fun and for the love of the game. You’ve been with Nick for what, year three you’re going into. I know he’s been making some tweaks or trying to make some tweaks in the offense. Chris, what’s your comfort level at the changes you guys are making? Very comfortable. I love to play fast. Uh, a lot of times in the NBA, it’s a big terminology deal. So, just get the terminology down. Um, figure out our spots and a good flow and pace and I think that everything will work out. But I love playing fast. When I was in Phoenix, we played the 0.5 system with Monty and I think it really worked really well for everybody on the court. So, yeah, I mean, we have the bodies and talent to do it. So, you know, I I love what coach is doing. What stood out to you about last year compared to this year? Like, what do you kind of see him making strides like that? I mean, his motor, you know, his energy level is very high always. Um, obviously more experience helps and, um, yeah, I mean, I just being in the actions and being, you know, on the battlefield, you know, allows you to help improve yourself. And I think him having last year as to get thrown into that fire really helped him for this year and his his development. So, I’m super proud of him over what he did throughout the summer. He’s definitely been working. He’s definitely a freak athlete and um you know, I continue to just tell him to catch the ball cuz once you do, good things happen and stop fing. So, um but other other than that, man, I’m super proud of him and I love playing with him. Yeah. Yeah. You just mentioned the fouls. I mean, Tyrese mentioned it the other night, too. uh you guys as veterans to maybe kind of like maybe point things out to him and be like, “Hey, you can do this instead of this or anything like that.” Yeah, I mean 100%. As a young guy, I had to go learn everything the hard way. So, um I’m able to tell him through experience, you know, and a lot of times you just want to do every single thing on the court, right? Which means block shots, steal the ball, you know, just hit the home run defensive play. And that a lot of times that happens ends with a foul. So, yeah, just slow down, let it come to you, and just be solid. It’s still something I’m still working on as well, but we can learn together. [Music] Say that one more time. What does Tyrese mean to you guys as a team? What does he mean to us? Yeah. Well, I mean, I don’t I don’t really get the question, but Tyrese is my brother. I love him. You know what I mean? So, at the end of the day, we all just look after each other. You know, I always look after him. you know, I’m the I’m the brother you call whenever things are a little gray outside and then I can try to, you know, lighten things up. But at the end of the day, man, he’s coming into his own in this league and he has that confidence and that swagger already about him that makes him a great leader. So that’s not even a question. He means the world to me personally just because I’m just happy to be able to have our paths crossed and things like that. So yeah, but other than that, man, obviously the city of Philadelphia knows what he means, right? So I mean, leave it at that. what is I mean just Google Tyrese Maxi man and you’ll see what he’s done and the the lives he’s touched and he’s done he’s he’s that person you know he continues to do that every day so salute to my brother [Music] I mean more so for him and for us together just to build that that camaraderie and you know for him to learn the flow and the pace and just to figure out where he has asserts his dominance in our offense and as he is as a player. Um I think it means everything. The energy is always there when he’s around and then you know he could feed off of that and just continue to just take those next steps in his development as well. Just going back to the offense, Nick talked about how one of the important things you wanted to do is you know the ball like it energizes guys. It energizes players. Have you felt that personally? Have you seen it with your teammates that this offense is kind of you know providing a little more energy throughout the team? Yeah, when the ball like we had a couple moments today the ball stopped. So, the whole flow and the pace kind of stopped with it. But when our offense is flowing and we’re all on that string and we’re all moving, swinging it, driving, shooting it, it looks amazing, you know. But when we have those brain fart moments where the ball stops and the flow just is gone, then, you know, we have to use our special tools, right, which we have a lot of guys that could just make shots and go create for, you know, someone else or themselves. So yeah, but as long as we’re all flowing and on the same page, man, every, you know, it’s very hard to stop. Big love, man. God speak.
