Because of his size, I wonder if the best chance of a matching donor kidney would come from another former NFL (or college football) player.

Damn, he’s young too. My dad has a kidney transplant and it’s fucking rough even if you’re lucky enough to get one. There’s likely to be complications for the rest of your life even if everything goes perfectly. Wish him the best.
Hope there’s a way for him to try seastar medicals SCD device it’s a new technology that’s designed to treat the kidneys it’s in a trial face for adults right now but it’s meant to treat things just like mangold’s chronic kidney issue.
