Pete Werner on Chase Young’s return, Danny Stutsman | New Orleans Saints

I mean, we know how close you are with Chase, right? For him to and you know how hard he’s worked for him to be able to get back on the field with you guys this weekend, like how excited are you? Uh, I think uh the whole team’s excited. I mean, just to see his energy out there on the sideline in practice. Uh you feel his presence, that’s for sure. But, you know, we’re all excited, but I don’t think anybody’s more excited than he is. Uh he’s just put in a lot of work and uh we’re excited to see him play. What does he like his defense obviously has changed and his format and things like that. What does he add? There he is. What does he add with uh like his presence and his pass rush ability to line? I think uh first of all it starts with his energy. Uh he he brings that big energy piece, the swagger of the defense and also that big play capability. um the consist consistency uh with what he brings is is very valuable to this team and I think when he’s on his game there’s there’s no better player. So um we’re excited to see it and um you know like I said we’re all excited for him. How obviously this defense had five turnovers, five straight possessions last week. How are y’all looking to like build on that momentum coming into this game against the Patriots? Yeah, I think u especially this week of practice, I think Justin Reed said it the best when he broke the team down today. He said that we felt different. We felt a winning side, a winning culture these past two weeks based on the way we practiced. And I think it showed in last week’s game based off our preparation. And I think with another great week like today, um you see the culture building. Um I’m not going to say that it wasn’t like that the first few weeks, but I’m going to say that um the confidence is building. That’s for sure. And to that point, like you like you’re not playing for a result. You’re playing to like be your best, right? And give your best, but sometimes you have to see like one person would call it like proof of concept. You have to see it happen. Doesn’t does that give a boost of like, yeah, it may have not been different those first two weeks, but to see the results for us, it brings a different. It does. It does. It brings uh it brings that confidence piece that like I was saying. Um, but just like in baseball, somebody’s struggling, even though they’re, you know, they’re giving good swings at the at the ball, it’s eventually going to come. It just takes that home run hit to finally gain that confidence. I feel like that’s the same thing with with this team, with this defense. We haven’t gotten to see a ton of Danny Sman when he’s been on special teams, but what have you seen in his growth so far through the I did not know he was right behind me through the first quarter of the season here? Uh, he he’s growing and getting better each week. uh he’s going to be a player that um is going to be here for a long time. He uh brings a lot of juice to this team. Um but just a great player, a guy that’s willingness to learn is incredible. And um he keeps getting better, keeps continuing to grow, and um he’s just a guy that you love to be a part of this
