LIVE: Media Mash Podcast | 10-14-25 | Dallas Cowboys 2025
The following is a production of DallasCowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys football club. How about Cowboys? [Music] This is Media Mash, a roundt of Cowboys insiders dropping wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state of your Dallas Cowboys. Now, your host, Newie Scrugs. Here we are. Medium mash on a Tuesday. The Cowboys are off. Players day off. They’re getting ready to host the Washington Commanders and Dan Quinn on Sunday at AT&T Stadium coming off that 30-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers in which Rico Dattle decided to go for 239 total yards. Buckle up. Buckle up. and he toted the ball 30 30 times for 183 yards, a 6.1 yard average. And by the way, the 239 total offense is a Carolina Panthers record. Got to ask y’all, they wasn’t buckled up. Now, Newi and I tried to tell you that Newi that uh Rico was taking the game seriously. It was about the Cowboys taking it seriously. That’s what we said. It was taking it serious. What was our bet again? The Cowboys had to win for us to even get to the bet. So, we’re not even going there. But it was about They all gave his props, baby. They all gave his props. They all gave him the props. The bet was if the Cowboys win and then it was addressed by somebody postgame as being like, “Yeah, you know, we were buckled up, blah, blah.” But it it didn’t even happen. No, cuz they wasn’t buckled. I will give you though, Dak did mention it. He was like, you know, Rico talked some mess and then he backed it up. Credit to him. He said it, Thomas said it. Clowny said it. Tyler Smith said it. Everybody gave his props when I talked to him. I’m telling you, rightfully so. those defensive players did not take him seriously just like you know cuz even when Shotti comes in he’s really making fun of it when he talk when he addresses it and then Jerry before the game I I’ve got the guys are scared to come out on the field see one dude took one dude took it seriously and that that that happens from time to time where somebody’s playing with more purpose than somebody else a why they and his why was y’all it Doesn’t matter if it’s only in his own mind. It doesn’t matter. Mhm. Y’all disrespected me. Y’all think I’m a buster. Y’all think I ain’t worth no money. Let me Let me show you. Let me show you how I’m worth some money. Absolutely. So, it was funny to me. It was great. I thought it was great. Shout out to Rico, man. He’s a great dude. First carry of the game, nine yards, dude. Nine. I knew it was a wrap in terms of he was going to do this thing when the first three carries, not just the nine, but it was like nine, 12, and seven. He had like three carries for 28 yards. And I’m like, I think you went for 45 in the opening drive. Cuz you know, normally when you come out hyped, especially in the first quarter of a game, the first run is we hyped, we bust you up, there’s no game. Buck that up, dog. Buckle up that. So they when that didn’t happen, man, I was like, “Oh, they ain’t ready.” It was a eightplay drive by Carolina. Eight play drive, 63 yards. Um first play, Dow, nine yards. Play to uh pass to uh Evans for 21 yards. Play three, Dow left tackle 12 yards. Uh, next play, Young to Dow, 13 yards on a pass play. Then Dow rushes for eight yards. Then Young incomplete. Then um Dallas up the middle for no gain. Then they kicked a field goal. So 42 yards from just sitting up here, man, coming out the gate, coming at you like like mystical. If it ain’t live, it ain’t me. And and then he was doing mystical. Here I go. It was mystical. Shake that. Yeah. I mean, it was just It was embar It was embarrassing to me. It was embarrassing. It was embarrassing. It was embarrassing. And Nick, you and I were in the locker rooms. Real quiet after, boy. Real quiet. It real quiet. Yeah. Yeah. It was It was almost quieter than the Bears one because at least the Bears when they had the CD Lamb excuse to fall on, they didn’t have any excuse to fall on on this on this loss. This was a I I will give Carolina credit. That is a really physical team. We talked about it last week. That’s a physical football team. That is not the same Carolina that that we’ve gotten used to going out there and seeing these last couple years, but that’s still a game you should have won. Okay, but here’s here’s kind of the problem. Okay, you start to think about this and Jerry tried to give him credit. We’ll play sound by from Jerry, but the Carolina Panthers are a three and three football team. All three wins have been at home. They beat Atlanta, Miami, and the Cowboys. Their three losses at Jacksonville, at Arizona, at New England. Okay. The first step to being a decent team is you got to figure out how to win at home. Then the second step is you figure out how to beat bad teams on the road. Then the third step is you figure out how to beat good teams on the road. And and Carolina will probably end up being a uh getting over 500 this week. They’re at the Jets. So, we’ll see if they can win a game at the Jets. But I I heard this uh a few times already this week. I can’t believe we lost to the Bears. We we lost to the Panthers. D. You are the Bears. You are the Panthers. You know what I mean? Like you’re not above them. No, I think you’re What are the Cowboys? Nine 13 and one since the start of last year. I mean, you’re a bad team. Chicago is tied for last place in the North with Minnesota 3 and two. I mean, this is who you are. This is not like some fluky dookie thing. Carolina is a third place team in their division. Only New Orleans who’s one and five is worse. And so the Cowboys are a two three and one football team. You’re not the Jets. You’re not the Titans. You just you’d have rung above them. But you’re you’re you’re a team that’s only beaten guys who played the Medallands. Yeah. So that’s it. So New York State champions. Yeah. Yeah. Your two wins are against two teams who played the Medallands who are in shambles who are in shambles. The offense for the Jets is as bad as the Cowboys defense. Yeah. I was thinking about this the other day. I was like, okay, they lost 30 to 27. And then I thought about I said, you know what, they didn’t hit their average. Their average is 30. They didn’t hit it. Yeah. No, not good. Uh, so Matt Eberloose catching heat rightfully so. Fans want him gone. Jerry Jones on 1053 the fan this morning had this to say about his embattled defensive coordinator. He’s had tremendous experience. He’s dealt with adversity uh with a long record uh not only with us but with his tenure at Chicago and Indianapolis. and he’s had some great successes, had some very great successes, but he’s had his uh tail kicked. Uh that’s who I want in the foxhole with me because there’s no such thing as having all the answers. And uh so uh when I jumped at it when I saw we had a chance to get him, I still feel as strongly as I did the day we brought him in here. And uh these things u that we’re dealing with here are not one two major things. There are a lot of little things that you can address and get right and you can adjust the nuances of them. And uh for instance, the other day uh we couldn’t stop the run. Yet we were within a possession. If we uh drive that ball at the end of the game, we got a good chance to win it. We were up all day for the most part. And so there’s a lot of ways to win football games. And uh flu is dealing with uh uh nuances there that we can adjust and change and you do adjust and you do you do change and there will be that. Uh what’s interesting is that uh uh the uh way the game panned out was very very on point with the way that our coaches planned for the game to pan out. We just thought we could get more stops. We thought we could physically do a better job with them and uh they were able to scheme us a little bit that uh to their credit. Uh but we were in that game close enough. What what I I think I’m I don’t want to take too long on this answer, but uh Carolina is easy to overlook as a as a formidable matchup with us. They match up right good against where we need the work and so they were a tough tough opponent for us the other day. We almost pulled it off. They need they match up where we need a little bit of work cuz I was told if I if I if I remember correctly the addition of Kenny Clark meant you was strong up against the run and you was going to scheme the pass rush. That’s what that’s what I remember hearing at the trade. So, I’m not, you know, I love Jerry. It’s his birthday week, but I’m not really trying to hear that now. Oh, that’s a part of the team we’re not really strong at. I I gotta call BS on one point there, too, where See, that was stronger than me. I was trying to be polite cuz it’s birthday week. He He said uh he feels as strongly as he does. He feels as strongly today as he did when he first made the hire of Era Flu. There’s no way. After seeing these six games, there’s no way. 32nd in pass defense, 31st in run defense. There there’s problems all over this defense. There’s no way you could be as confident as you are today as you were then. Agree. He might be because he can he can convince himself of many things. Just like this is the way we wanted to play the game. I would imagine if we took a private poll of the coaches, they did not want to give up 200 yards rushing in the game. Now, maybe they said maybe if we give up 200 yards rushing, we won’t give up a bunch of 50 yard touchdown passes and we can hang around. But, you know, it’s a uh they’re going to have a hard time winning because your def This is I mean, this is one of the worst defenses I’ve ever seen up close. This is worse than 20. Correct. Worse than 20. And Mike Nolan was filed and rightfully so. So, and he eventually was um fired. Now, that was Mike McCarthy’s hire and the Joneses quickly ran him off and brought in Dan Quinn. That’s the difference, too. Fans wanting this to be a quick get outflu situation. I don’t think it’s that easy. And the problem is, and our friend Edward brings this up all the time. But if if you want to play Fluc’s style, that’s great. That’s fantastic. You don’t have the players. You ain’t got the players. And so now it’s a it’s this is two years. It’s the worst thing you can do. It’s now a two or three year process to do what? Get all the guys that play zone that are smaller, faster intellectually. Yeah. The carpenter doesn’t have his team. And last year, you did the same thing to Mike Zimmer. Mike Zimmer’s defense works up front with big people at defensive tackle. And you didn’t have big people. And so to me, I I go back into when Dan Quinn went to Washington. Joe Whit Jr. wanted the DC job. he’d have stayed here. You keep that guy who understood what the players could and couldn’t do in the scheme. He was there when Dan brought him in to run it and he’s now Washington’s defensive coordinator here and they went to the NFC Championship game last year. But you now bringing two, this is year three where you got another guy who’s got a whole different vision of what these guys should be like. If you’re going to bring Matt Floose back next year, Nick, in my opinion, it’s real simple. do what you did for Dan Quinn. When Dan Quinn got here, they said, “What do you need?” They let him bring in his coaches and then they brought they brought in players that fit what he wants to do. That to me seems the fair thing of what they’re going to have to do if they want to bring him back and deem him, you know, salvageable. A small indictment on that part is Donovan Ezaraku. You know, granted the pressure has been there, but if you were supposed to have, you know, this all world pass rush without Michael Barson, that was supposed to be a guy you lean on to get sacks at this point. He hadn’t been able to do that. So, was that fair? Yeah, it’s fair. It’s second round pick. Okay. I mean, second round picks have been iffy around here. Second round pick that on the record. Second round pick that on the record defensive coaches were on the table for at 12. Yeah. Yes. That’s That’s Cotton. Mike Cotton won him 12, right? Yeah. That’s a two-prong question. Number one, yes. Second round picks around here have been iffy, shady. That has nothing to do with him as an individual supposed to come in here and rush the passer. Now, and this is what I will say, things might be a little bit different if number 11 was on one side. No, we was told he he’s kind of overrated. That’s what that’s what I’ve been hearing for the last You you got common sense. That’s what I’ve been told. You got common sense, man. Stop. He’s not indispensable. Stop playing with me, man. He one step above just a guy. That’s the vibe I’ve been getting. Stop being the contrarian here. You and I know if Parson is on one side, life is a lot easier for young Donovan as a rocku and whoever else is over there. If Parsons was still here, okay, let’s look at these second round picks here lately. We know they bang. We know they not 2024. Marshon Neland, another defensive end. Yeah. Start. We need to really start having conversations about him and where his production supposed to be. Casper, dog, man. Can we put him on a Mill Carton? Yeah. Okay. So, him uh 2023 Luke Scoon Maker. Sorry, I didn’t. 2022 Sam Williams 2021 shameful Kelvin Joseph. He could throw down a good verse though. Cody, Cody, Cody, I I think he wasn’t no Rico Gather. Thank you. Thank you. I think he wasn’t Rico Gather, but he could throw a verse out there. He wasn’t even Cole Beasley. So, the last time he was definitely not a Cole Beasley. So So the last time they had a a second round pick that worked out was 2020. That was Trayvon Diggs who went out pro you going to get he get cut this be yes waved or traded or so then go back to 2019 Tristan Hill who yes Tristan Hill defensive tackle let’s take a bet is he still in the league I have no clue uh 2018 Connor Williams he was a good player not in Dallas right got to be good in Miami for a minute 2017 Cheeto he’s still in the league I saw him in Baltimore 2016 that was a good pick. He 10 years now. Jaylen Smith was uh I don’t know. I mean, he was an intriguing pick for about two years. 2015 Randy Gregory. That’s a lot. That’s a lot of second. But But they they miss in the second round. I understand why they miss. They have a they have a franchise Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones philosophy of in the second round, let’s go grab a guy whose first round whose draft grade should be a first round, but he got some dings on him for whatever injury off the field, whatever, and let’s see if we can steal a first round pick. Now, to me, if you look at the track record, that’s been a very faulty approach, but that’s the approach they have consistently taken on draft day. as opposed to taking a safer, more sure bet. The the interesting part is you start to look at the third rounders. The third rounders have seemingly given you more than the second rounders cuz they’re not taking shots at the third round. Third round, they’re like, “Okay, let’s who’s the best guy left?” You think about 2024, your third round pick was Cooper BB, right? But see, that’s why they do a good job in fourth and fifth and sixth round because they go, “Oh, who’s the best guy left? Oh, he is that blinking light. Let’s go grab him.” 2023 Demarian Noversh without the injuries. I mean, this this guy has been a better player at schoolmate. Even with the injuries, he’s the best player in the class, right? 2022, you take Sam Williams two, you take Jaylen Tolbert and three, Tolbert’s been a better player. And then they took Ferguson at four. That’s the skinniest fat guy right there. Hey, hey, the smartest. 2021, you take trade value is coming down, by the way. 2021, you take Kelvin Joseph in two and Oso Odigis in three. This is what I’ve noticed and it it’s interesting to me. Fenoy has been up two weeks and it seems like he’s a bigger part of the offense than Tolbert who’ve been up for a year and a half. Trust. Trust and reliability. Okay. How can I have tr and he can’t? I mean basically I mean it seems obvious that Fenoy is like moved past Tolbert and he ain’t been up. He’s literally been up for two weeks. I mean, they throwing they giving him reverse. I mean, he’s like part of the offense. Yep. Look, is what it is and just wild to me. And and you guys have both said it already. This is probably a player that allowed will be allowed to walk after the season. Now, he’ll probably play in the league eight years. Sure. Sure. Because he got that kind of talent. It’s uh but whether he ever unlocks it to become more than the kid from Boise they had a couple years ago, Cedric, what was his name? And No, he was good though. They let him go. went to Miami. You never heard from him again. No, but he was good here. But he couldn’t turn down the money. I mean, they gave him like $7 million a year. He’s still he’s still at Miami. I think he’s gone now. I think he bounced back to the Saints. Yeah. No, they moved on from him. They did. They So say it was he he was, you know, he had he had he had a nice little chemistry with Dak. G got some nice run for him, but then they moved on and and there you go. I mean, this which is which is what happens in the National Football League. You can’t keep everybody here. But Well, you’re really only giving stars contract. Cedric Wilson is what I’m talking about. Six round pick in 2018. Or is he a CK? He’s something different about his name. Yes, it’s a CK. Cedric Wilson. Good. Good job there. All right, let’s get a break in here. Why y’all ain’t wearing hats today, man? I wore a hat cuz y’all always wear hats. Is it cuz North Texas got stomped this week? It is. Yeah, maybe. So, did you leave yours at the Hall of Fame ceremony? I mean I mean, you know, we won. We We won our game. We We We were 24th in the country moved up there. So, UNCC Pin Brooks. Oh, 24th in the country. We wore 24th last week. Moved up here. I got to go check that. It’s a detask, man. I wore a hat cuz y’all normally wear a hat. Thank you. Sean Jacqu Taylor, Nick Harris. I’m new Scrugs. This is a players lounge. No, this is a media match. Players laugh. I did. Give us uh put some name on our respect. Some respect on our name. Whatever it is, he’s getting his checks, man. I got your name right. That’s good. Yeah, your checks are cash, so you’ll be fine. I’ll be eating Tostitos as I’m watching Indiana win the Big 10 title this year. Man, how about that? Sure. Yes, sir. Kirk signed getting things done. You know what’s interesting about that? Yeah. is I’ve heard several people say, “Well, they had two games last year against Ohio State and Notre Dame. They got hammered in both of them and I didn’t really believe that they and because I’m a Buckeye, I watched the entire Indiana Ohio State game and the score was basically 14 to7 the whole game and then we blocked the punt and we ran a punt back and that’s why and then it became they had to throw every day and then be so it was basically they didn’t care about coming to Ohio State last year and going toe-to-toe for two and a half quarters. And so I didn’t know that they would I didn’t think they would win in Oregon, but I certainly thought it would be a four quarter game because uh with Signetti, he’s got them in the we’re not scared of anybody mindset. Outside of those two football games, what he’s done the last two, they they they they’ve done impressive winning and they will blow your doors off if you are not ready. The interesting thing for him is who all comes calling after this season because they’re going to be some highprofile jobs open. Now let me ask you, and got some money. Would you leave? I think every everything is what what am I leaving for and how do you get the Lincoln Riley package? Yeah. They’re if they’re backing it up for you and they got a contract where you got all this cash and here’s the plane whenever you want it. I mean, if you you get that kind of thing. Okay. Like Oklahoma for Yeah. All those schools at that level can do that if they choose to do that. But are they I mean that’s the whole thing. Is Florida going to do that for you? I’m sorry. open. I’m flipping it around. If you’re at Indiana and you’ve been irrelevant for 126 years in college football and you now enjoy being relevant to match with your basketball program and you and and then if you’re signetti and you go instead of being, you know, the next Woody Hayes, the next Joe Pod, the next this, the next that, I can be that. I can be the dabbo here. So Penn State, Penn State’s they they fired James Frank. That’s a job that’s opening. I go back to Nick Sabin when he was at Michigan State and LSU came and the thought process for him was and they sold him is you got a whole state just protect the borders because we’re losing Pton Manning we’re losing Marshall Faulk there’s a lot of talent here and then just go next door to Texas and go get you a couple kids so he did that at LSU clearly if you’re Kirk Signetti you’re never going to be the best team in your own state and and and that was what Nick said he’s like you know I’m never going to be the team instate because I got Michigan here And then I got Ohio State next to me. So right here, I’m always going to be number three when it comes to kids. Notre Dame is always going to be a bigger draw than Indiana. What you’re doing out there is great. You go to Penn State, there’s more money, it’s more resources. It’s an easier way to win. Signetti though, and it’s interesting because I just heard it come out of his mouth the other day. He’s Chan Gayy. He don’t want to deal with a bunch of five stars. He like these threes and three and a halfs that he can mold, develop, who ain’t going to ask him a whole bunch of why we doing this coach. He like that. Okay. So my point is my point is he might not mind cuz he not competing against same catch. Notre Dame is competing f anyway. He don’t want Ohio State’s players. He wants TCU’s players. I want to develop them. I want to get them here. I want them to stay. I don’t want them, you know, hey, where my rays at? I don’t want them kind of guys. I want those guys that are happy to be here. They want to be here. They want to be coached hard. And now show them we can compete with the best. It’s going to be interesting. I mean, no, it’s going to be really interesting. Florida State could could be in the market. So, it’s it’s he’s going to have some tremendous options and Indiana, sure, you can go to Mark Cuban and other people say, “Write us a check here.” But it’s going to be hard. I mean, how okay, who’s the last person to turn down, you know, these blue blood where you’re like, “Oh, really?” I mean, with Matt Campbell, maybe at Iowa State, how’s that working out? Yeah, it working out for him right now. I think about Shane Latril a few years ago at turning down Kansas State. Yeah. And Kansas. Now he’s out of a coaching job. Latril and he he had both K both both jobs in Sun in the Sunflower State. Turn them both down. Signetti has a very similar decision to make as Joey Magcguire right now because they’re they’re both you talk about all those comparison right you talk about all those uh things working against them you’re never going to be the blue blood in your state you’re going to be recruiting a much different player than the Texas or the Texas A&Ms or even the Oklahoma’s but you got the money you got the resources where you’re at and it’s a whole different landscape of college football you’re going to see the Indiana and the Texas Tech and the uh I I think Houston has some money like that too they’re just putting them into awful resources right now but so it’s very similar Well, I’ve talked to Joey about that in the past and Joey’s talked so much about, you know, I’m a I’m a West Texas Red Raider guy. I’m a This is me. This fits me. This is what I want. Yeah, that’s what I mean. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, and he’s a Texan. I don’t know. Sickettes, you know, hey, I’m an Indiana guy. I’m a who’s your guy. Um I think I I think the programs are a little bit different in that aspect. And let’s just be honest, if they’re going to keep spending money like that in this Big 12, this dude can win this conference and be he can he he can sit up on top here for a minute. You can be the new Oklahoma in the Big 12 if this is the commitment they’re going to continue to get that. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so if that’s the case and you’re you’re a Texas guy and you’re comfortable. I mean, for me, I would say, you know, if Joe, if somebody wants to come get Joe, who let’s just say, let’s say LSU moves on from from Brian, which, you know, that’s that’s a check you’re going to have to write. But, you know, our guy Danny McCrae upstairs, not happy. Not happy right now. But if you move on from Brian Kelly at L at LSU and you’re Joey McGuire, now you got that kind of convers that’s a very interesting conversation to have because you’re talking about a whole state of tremendous talent. And oh, by the way, you’ve been a high school coach in Texas and you know how to recruit. That’s a that’s a that’s a tough job to turn down. So, you know, tell me tell me what the options are. But I just think if you’re in Indiana, it’s not going to be hard to make a fantastic case at some of these schools of, hey, this is what we can do for you that that that you won’t be able to get in Indiana unless he just says, you know, I’m be that guy. I’m buckle up here. I’m all good. I I want to make Indiana football matter. It would have to be a significant step up. If I’m Curt Signetti, it Penn State isn’t a high enough jump for me to for me to What is a high enough Florida, Florida or um trying to think one of these schools say the other thing is that’s a blue blood job. It is. But it’s same conference. You have arguably the same amount of resources at Indiana as they do at Penn State monetarily wise. I’ll disagree with you there. You should see the money they’re putting in that program, man. It’s it’s why they’ve been able to recruit. You see the money they’re putting over there at Penn State. For sure. And I’m not discounting that. Indiana’s got more resources than you think though. I mean, I have, and this is just me, when I think of Big 10 football right now, it’s Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State. Those those are the three jobs. Those are the three jobs. And those are the or as a buddy of mine used to uh Oregon and SC in there now. You know, they’re not getting that kind of revenue money like the other ones are because they’re getting half that cash coming from uh from from the Pack 12. But buddy of mine used to say when he was he was a recruiter for TCU basketball. He’s like, he called me news. I always go in their room. Show me, show me the posters. He said it was never TCU basketball poster on anybody’s wall. And then before that, he was recruiting at Carolina, South Carolina. Like news was never was never basketball postco basketball anybody’s room. There’s not that at Indiana. No, it is if you’re Penn State. Yeah. No. And and and some of those different, you know, what do what do you have 50,000 seat stadium at Indiana? You just feeling you feeling good. They they they whitening out a 100,000 to Penn State. It’s a different level. It It’s It’s a little bit different though when you can go to, let’s say, this four-star receiver, right? Let’s say he’s in, let’s say he’s in Chicago, okay? Penn State, Indiana, they’re both recruiting him. They have the same bag on the table for him. You can go to Penn State, you can compete with all these other guys that have the same bag. Or you can go to Indiana, be like, “Hey, you’re going to be wide receiver one day one.” I I just think there’s more I think there’s more opportunity and more resources at Indiana based on uh the hand that Kurt Signetti’s been dealt and with the resources that they continue to have. Talk to Mark Cuban. Mark Cuban’s throwing some money in that program, too. There’s they have some big-time donors that with this NIL era, it has opened up multiple programs to be able to dump money into. I mean, Texas Tech is the best example. Sure, Indiana’s one of them. Um Illinois is another one. You know, they’ve been consistently top 20 in the NIL era. That’s no mistake. I think if they had the right guy in there, we could be talking about them instead of Indiana right now. The other thing is um when you talk about resources and you talk about that private equity deal that the Big 10’s about to sign, all the schools about to get paid. And so let me throw one out here. Yeah. And they’ve got money. Yeah. They’ve they’ve demonstrated already with their basketball program. We’ll go we’ll go pay a high high power coach. BYU Arkansas. Yeah. If you’re signetti, Arkansas comes to you with a big old bag. Tyson chicken money. Jerry Jones flying you on the plane on down there. I mean, Beluma bought it. Wisconsin. I ain’t going to Wisconsin. I mean, I ain’t going to Arkansas. Okay. I’m just asking because at the end of the day, I did not see coach John Caliperry leaving Kentucky to go to Arkansas. And I knew things had gotten to the point where Kentucky, he and Kentucky were like, “Hey man, I was I don’t really like you no more. You don’t like me, but it’s going to cost you a whole lot to buy me out. Let me go here.” But what did he do with Arkansas? Good job. What you got? I can see they’ve already thrown the money in for Caliperry. That’s the difference at Arkansas that that that money’s already there. They need to show return on investment before they can go back to those same people and be like, “Hey, let’s do over here what you did over there even though we haven’t won yet.” Do you think you really you think I really twist Jerry Jones on go make football good at Arkansas? No. Jerry Jones is is let’s put him out of the question. He can he can dump as much money into that Arkansas program as he wants. But we we can’t question Tyson Chicken. You know, you going to Tyson and being like, “Hey, but what do they all care about the most?” I mean, they they like Arkansas bad. They like it, but they’ve had much more success in basketball than football. But that doesn’t that doesn’t mean that’s not what they want to do. You know, it’s like SMU, the Boosters, all they want. They all want football. They want, you know, Jerry Jerry ain’t sitting up here talking too many times about Nolan Richards in 40 minutes to hell. But he’s showing up talk about that Arkansas football. We are Let’s transition from Jerry and and Arkansas to Jerry and the Dallas Cowboys. So, um, he spoke about everything going on there with the defense and believes in that, but the quarterback right now is playing at another level. Let’s dive into Dak Prescott right now. The last three weeks he’s had here, he’s been sensational for the Cowboys on offense, they just don’t have enough defense to stop anybody and win some games. We’ll do that with Nick Harris and John Shak Taylor, New Scrugs. This is the media match on dallascowboys.com. How about them Cowboys? Or how about them Tyson Cowboys nuggets. He was gone the moment he gave up the play caller. Is that now the worst run football organization in Yes. Uh let me see. Uh it’s rivaling the Jets, but I think they’re worse because they’ve had like three coaches and two GMs. Yeah, like you fired Ran Carthan to hire a GM whose first hire lasted 17 games and he got fired too. And I mean that’s that’s really almost a fireable offense. Well, one of the fireable offenses you just got to go back to management. You you let Mike Frael get out of the out of the building. Yeah, there Yeah, that you Boom. I mean, what are we doing? Yeah, he’s a quality NFL coach, right? What what are we doing? You already see the difference he’s making in New England here. So that’s why I said, is this is this the worstrun organization out there going around right now? I mean, the Raiders are going to give them a run for the money cuz they’ve made a bunch of mistakes here and and the Jets are wow. And then this is why it matters who drafts you when you’re a quarterback because they can really just ruin your career. And yes, you have something to do with it, but at another level, you have very little to do with it. And what’s what is your philosophy? I mean, I remember when Bill Parcels was here, how they helped create, hey, we’re going to change things. These are the types of players we’re drafting. I mean, Bill talked about, you know, we’re drafting guys who’ve got been productive at big schools, guys who’ve been captains. You know, he had a he had a certain type of player that he wanted here and and they did that when they drafted guys like Kevin Bernett and they drafted Swagu. Um, they ended up getting Demarcus Way. They had a lot of certain guys got Jason Whit. They got guys who produced, guys who were doing things and that philosophy ended up carrying them. Um, even well past when he was gone, when Wade Phillips had had taken over, what are you? Who are you? And I don’t know when I look at the Titans, when I look at the Jets, that they can say who they are. What is it they do? Well, what can they hang their hat on right now? Poor Tony Pard. I mean, poor Tony He went home and have we heard his name? I brought it up. Who thought about I mean, poor poor TP. Glad he got paid, but wow. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Cam Ward. poor. I feel more I feel worse for Cam Ward. He’s not the one who got paid. Tony Pard did. Yeah. As far as uh you know, positional money goes. Yeah. Uh speaking of quarterbacks and positional money, Dak Prescott, highest paid quarterback in the league right now and playing like it in three games, over 800 yards of passing, 11 touchdowns, and one interception. Unfortunately for Dak Prescott, um they lost to the Carolina Panthers and they tied the Green Bay Packers and they beat the New York Jets. and Dak at the podium said they thought they were going to get the football back after that horrible three and out when they had the ball with fantastic field positions there 46 and went three and out and going backwards. Um he has to darn near play perfect Nick in order for these guys to have a chance. Yeah, six minutes left. He should expect to get the ball back. I don’t blame him for that. Um but man, those uh that that first down play really spoke the end for that drive. Starting at the 46, you run the screen, loss of seven, I think it was, and then you have to go check down, check down because uh you know, the Panthers were playing at the first down marker at that point. So I that that drive killed it obviously, but you expect to get the ball back. You should get the ball back in that situation. It’s the Panthers. It’s not It’s not the best running game in the NFL. It’s the Panthers. I was about a minute into the drive when I think I tweeted out, “Oh, they’re not going to get the ball back there because And it’s because they could run the ball like that. They didn’t have to pass, which means the clock wasn’t gonna stop. And they were and there was no indication you could stop them. So, they were going to just keep pounding first downs. And the one time they had a chance to stop them, what happened? Pass interference. Yeah. So, the the Cowboys got the ball back at 8:18 in in the game. It was tied at 27. First and 10. That short pass to uh Javvante was minus five. Then second 15 from the 41. They go back to Javvante. It’s negative seven. Then on the third down, you throw it to Hunter Lipkkey for four yards and then they punt. And then with the Panthers when they got the ball back with 607 and ran it out, it was a third and seven at the Carolina 17. That’s the play of the game. And it was leg. Well, actually, I I’ll disagree. I think here was your play of the game. So, they kept the ball get first and 10 at the Carolina 29. It was a fourth and four. That fourth and four. And then they ran that slant. Hunter infro picked it up from seven yards. That fourth and fourth to 40 with two with 231 to go. If you don’t commit to pass interference, you’re never there for the butterfly effect. Yeah. The drive is over and you punt. So that play never happens because they punt on third and seven from there on 17. And the Elen thing I I I have to go back and off the top of my head I thought it was just kind of one of those I don’t I I can’t say for sure it was, but it just looked at me like, you know, you go either way. You know, it could go either way in a game. You could say yes, you could say no. But that fourth down call, they play it off. He runs a slant. Bam. He gets in there. Yeah, your boy supposed to go over there and do. But if you look at this at the play, he he doesn’t go right to the spot. He he steps takes like two steps back and then he goes. If he just goes, he’s probably there to knock it down. So yeah, that’s uh you know, to me I thought four and four. Okay, that’s boom. You know, show ends and and they they take a loss. But six minutes and seven seconds to end the football game. I just can’t think of the last time I saw something like that. What are you talking about? I mean, we saw 17 plays and 90 whatever that that 12,000 minute drive the Bears had at the in the third quarter that effectively ended that game because I’m talking about end of the game, you know, like the two talking about two-minute offense or three minute offense to end the game. 607 I can’t for me I can’t remember the last time I saw that. Yeah. And it was also just watching being there too was like you just watch you just look. Oh, this Oh, this and that’s how your defense can destroy the game no matter how good your offense is cuz like even in the Bears game, they took that whole third quarter with the drive. So, the game’s essentially over now. It’s 3114 with only one quarter left. But, you know, you know, D, but even there and Nick were sitting there in Chicago, it just after the flea flicker play, it just never felt like they were in it. It was just like, man, these these guys getting handled. They just getting handled. They they holding on. They get handled for you know when a dude gets get raked out of the ball just raked out your hands. I mean it just never felt like they were in that game here against the Panthers. You’re thinking you’re thinking they’re they’re going to win. They’re going to figure it. It’s going to be sloppy like like the Giants. You’re going to figure it out. They’re going to figure it out. Dave, dude, the difference was you know 14 runs or seven yards or more. Like normally if you get 183 yards somewhere along the way you busted one for 40 50 60 70. somewhere this was just boom hammered and and so it’s like watching a boxer just continually tap somebody in their eye. This was and the eye cowboy eye all swollen the next one in there. Yeah, it was it was awful. It was awful. Like when Bud beat up Spence, man. That’s what it was like. You kept waiting for Spence to get back in it and and it was no but beat him up. But even that the cowboy you No, I won’t give him that cuz the cowboy still had a shot. You still had a shot at the end. You get you your eye was shut never had exactly never had no shot, brother. It was like, “Oh, somebody somebody save this man from himself.” But this guy with the eye was shut. You was still hitting him. You couldn’t see, but you know, it’s like Joe Frasier in in the thrill of Manila. You know, he was getting beat. Yeah, he was hitting you. He just had a couple more than you. But it still went down to the end. Uh, this was this was Rico Rico, man. Rico punched him in the eye, man. Made him take it. Then just said they were buckled up, man. That was it was that was that was a that was an embarrassing locker room afterwards, man. Everybody just owned up. Yeah, he did that. That was the saddest part. Yeah, man. He did that. When you looked at Washington and I realize we got the rest of the week, but how how do how do we how do you go about stopping Jaden Daniels in that offense? I mean, if you can’t stop slowing it down like you don’t have to stop Can you just slow it down enough? You can’t stop Russell Wilson. I mean, you know, bro, you know, the problem with this with this is the Cowboys are two, three, and one. This was the soft part of the schedule. I know this was the make hay. This was put the money in. Put the so in case we get laid off, we got six months salary saved up. That’s what this part of the season was, man. And instead of four and two or, you know, maybe five and one if something breaks right for us. Well, you think about this is what they’ve got the next three weeks before the buy. It’s still time. It is home against Washington. You’re at Denver and then a home game against uh Kyler Murray and the Cardinals. Then the buy, then the Raiders, right? But I’m just saying I’m looking I’m looking right here before the buy. Like right here. Well, I’m going to tell you like I told Can we say chill on here? Yeah. Our old friend chill. They’re not good enough to do anything other than is there practice tomorrow? Let me show up and prepare for practice tomorrow. Yeah, it’s Hey, it’s ugly. They got to go three and 0. They got to go into that by five three and one or what? That’s to give them a chance. Or what? Or they let’s get this draft show fired up. How many wins did you have them this year? Uh after the Parsons trade, I think I had them at eight. Eight or nine. Eight. See, I had them at six. And after the Parsons trade, I really went to more like five. I I think about Yeah. The part I was at five or six. So, I mean, right now, they’re they’re really they’re really on point. They’re on point for six. And and at this point in time, the the the ones I was counting on, they’re not getting. Yeah, you know, that’s that’s the problem. You know, I I thought you going to put Carolina in the bank. That that didn’t happen. I thought you put Chicago in the bank. That didn’t happen. So, that’s why, you know, a game like Washington’s very critical. It’s going to be hard to go to Denver. The problem the problem is Kyler Murray doesn’t lose it at AT&T. Trying to hear that. He might not play at this rate. Yeah. But, you know, they lost to Josh Dos, so it don’t really matter. True. You know, when your defense is this bad, every there’s no there’s no bankable games because your defense keeps everybody in the game. Yes. Yeah. When you’re scoring 30, any other team is scoring 31 or Yeah. It’s a problem. It’s a problem. They got to fix it. But Jerry says there are little things that got to get fixed and he still believes in Matt Ebberloose and I flu is good. And then I check the pass rush. Yeah. Hey man, that what he said. I know. I know. Just the deepest part of the team I think. I mean, I’m paraphrasing. I know. I know. Yeah. I’m disappointed in y’all. I’m disappointed in y’all. We’re 45 minutes through the show. Y’all are the self-proclaimed old heads. And no shout out for D’Angelo. Man, that’s tough. Hey, man. Um, you know what? This famous song was him dancing naked on the video. That’s Can I Can I say this, Nick? I’m surprised you knew that. I’m surprised you knew who he was. I’m a youngster, but I’ve got the D’Angelo station pulled up on my SiriusXM app. Now, look what I did. That’s uh I passed Nick my phone. That’s my hiking chat and I pulled out the the naked video for and I said for the ladies the D’Angelo station. So So see we know it man. Soon as it happened man went straight to the to the serious X7. I know I’m a little young for that. N man I give you credit. Your mama raised you right. Mama raised you right baby. Look at you boy. Soul brother Nick. You and you you and my man down in Miami. Coach Soul. All right. All right. You you know somebody uh said my pants look like look like his today. I was like, “No, they’re too they’re too low. They are not high enough. Do not call me now.” Hey, man. He only one of us is about to be employed here in about two weeks, though. So, hey, you know what? Fire me and I’m in great shape. These checks these folks out here getting Can I get fired? Can I be James Franklin? Can I tell y’all something? That’s not a bad life. No. Cuz ESPN did that to me and I was like, “Oh.” So, this what it’s like to be a college coach at about seven months on the company. That’s right before I started working at NBC with Newi. And we, this is the funniest thing real quick. We made the announcement on Facebook. Oh, I’ve I’m thrilled to announce I’ve accepted a position with NBC and my boy Newi and Positive Pat. Dude, I promise you I had not posted that more than an hour. Ring ring ring. Oh, congratulations, Mr. Taylor. When do you start? Oh, I believe our contract extend is over August 31st. I start September 1st. You going to pay me all this money? I’ll be like James Franklin. I wasn’t looking hard for a job. So, so there was a clause in James Franklin’s contract where he has to look for a job and if he is not paid more than $8 million or if he’s not paid $8 million at least by his uh next employer, Penn State has to make up the difference. Right now, James Franklin is getting $660,000 a month not to work. Jimbo Fischer, that’s really the life. I mean, he is just chilling in Brenham on his on his Jimbo trying to get back though in the worst way, man. See, the problem is you got all that money, but what you going to do? Your wife is not used to having you around after after you golf so much and you take a couple vacations. It it it is it is bad. But I saw I saw Jimbo in Chapel Hill for the TCU Carolina game. Yeah. Jimbo had on purple tie. Went on up to Daniel pulling the the president of TCU. Met the ad. I’m like, “Oh, you ain’t even slick, man.” No, man. That’s That’s dirty work. It’s dirty work, you know. And then he goes up to Sunny. How you doing, Sunny? Good job. Good job. Yeah. I’m like, “Boy, look at you.” Close one, Sunny. M look. Yeah. No, it was pretty funny, man. I said Yeah. He had baby blue draws on that night, let me tell you. Well, well, you know, since I don’t know about that, man. Those the people that because it wasn’t 80, the people that hired him, they they g they going they they’ll probably stand in there with him. They probably will. Nick Harris, appreciate you, John Taylor. Appreciate you. We’ll do it again tomorrow right here on the media mash for Chris Beam and everybody here at Dallascowboys.com. We’ll talk to you tomorrow. This has been a production of DallasCowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. How about you, Cowboys? [Music]

My dude Jacques. O-H!
Stop talking about that trade Jerry got mad
Hey guys stop talking about what Jerry said
We just have to remember three things. One, this is a redshirt season. We had a questionable run defense before Micah was gone and now, without Micah we have a defense that can neither play the pass or the run. Something to work on. Two, we are not a defensive anything away from being competitive. Trading for a defender would be beyond stupid. Three, since we don't value defense or RBs we should expect to be a team that gets by with mid-round running backs and free agents because every Dallas Superbowl team was built that way… wait, that's not even remotely true… huh..
Jerry: We thought we would get more stops
Team owner and GM has no grasp of what his teams defense is.
