Jets Fan Rich Eisen on New York’s “Brutal” Week 6 Loss to the Broncos in Very Winnable Game

Okay, guys. All right, Rich. Let’s go. Do I look older to you than the last time you saw me? Well, I mean, I didn’t want to say two, three, because calling the Jets Broncos game aged me. Yeah, it aged me. It aged me. It aged me. I felt for all of the Brits here for whom that might have been their first NFL game. M and and somebody’s going to have to explain how somebody with 45 yards passing and Justin Fields winds up with -10 passing yards at the end of the day because you take the sack yardage and subtract it from the net personal yardage. So it was -10 passing yards for the Jets on the day after nine sacks of Justin Fields. Um, and the thing that I I just wanted to express while calling the game with Kurt was just how difficult it was both teams. I mean, the Jets defense balled out. Um, and you know, and also got a takeaway, a gift wrap takeaway on the first drive of the game by by the by the Broncos. Um, but man, the Jets offense made you your eyes bleed and um the the worst part about it was was the end of the game. I mean, the end of the first half when the Jets had actually called a fake punt to Bree Hall. Our cameras, our crack crew was showing uh the special teams coach uh Darren Rzzy of the Broncos going nuts on the sideline with Shawn Payeyton. Like they saw the thing coming and they couldn’t stop it. Bree Hall moved the chains for their uh first down. They had only two first downs in the first half. And uh and then what did they do with that fresh set of downs before the half was run it and then let the clock run out? Well, they were out of timeouts. The Broncos let the clock run out with no time left. They just walked off the field and um and and I noticed on camera that we saw Garrett Wilson just being real demonstrative with Aaron Glenn being upset. This was Glenn saying after the game why they made the decision to just let the clock run out at the end of the half. So I knew we were getting the ball back and I think it was like third and seven or third and eight and at that point we didn’t know if we got the first down or not cuz I know one ref was saying yes and the other was no. So once it got the fourth down guys I’m not about to sit there and try to get a play off and they will get the ball back and I think they had a timeout left and give them a chance to kick a field goal. I don’t think that’s the smartest thing to do. So, let’s just end the half we get the ball back and see if we can get a chance to score it. Now, I understand that and that’s what Garrett Wilson said after the game. He understood it as well. Thing I didn’t understand is like if the clock’s winding down and it’s fourth down and you’re at midfield, why are they not trying a Hail Mary? Why weren’t they just launching it into the end zone to try for a Hail Mary? I know you don’t want to give the ball back to the Broncos. Then don’t. Then just try at least to get some points before the end of the half. Certainly if you fake punted to get the opportunity to do it. And you know the Jets the Jets were trying really hard. They almost still won this football game. Yeah. They almost won the football game with you know a a a an absurd offense that was beyond um I mean it was beyond awful. And Fields looked terrible. The guy in week one that we saw almost beat the Steelers with tons of different ways to score on you isn’t there right now. They’re 0 and6 and the Broncos, they’re they’re lucky to get out of London with a win and have a piece of the AFC West lead entering week seven. But that was brutal. And the decision-m was awful. And it’s not going to help Aaron Glenn. I hope his seat isn’t hot because the guys are trying. The U-Haul isn’t backed up, but the thing that was absolutely beyond difficult to watch was this offense on Sunday. Tom Pelisero is coming up to take you the rest of the way here. Uh here was Aaron Glenn asked about um about the job status or of starting status of his quarterback. Justin’s numbers are not good from this game. Is he is he going to be your quarterback next week or would you consider What kind of question is that? Look, he did not have a good game. I mean, I think it’s a fair question. There’s a number of guys that, you know, I mean, sometimes this this league is like this and there are guys that have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench them. Come on. You know better than that. I mean, and again, that sort of exchange isn’t going to help him uh in New York City. I just hope everybody’s patient because it it it’s going to take some time to find the right guys. And some of these guys love playing for him. I got that sense. Um, and and as I mentioned in overreaction Monday, Terrod Taylor is not the future of this team. I don’t know if it’s going to be Justin Fields or not, but sitting him down, you know, uh, in the next game, uh, for the New York Jets is not the answer against Carolina and then Cleveland after that. That’s not the answer. So, um, I it it’s it it wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t pretty at all. Um, and and Aaron Glenn should, you know, take a look at the end of that half in the first half and use some mental notes if he actually needs that for any future situations. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Check us out every single day streaming live on Disney Plus and the ESPN app 12 to 3 Eastern.

  1. That was my first NFL game at the stadium 🥲 the show… amazing! the football… man it was bad 😬 any recommendations on a good game to watch from the past?

  2. Aaron Glenn has zero clue what he's doing. Tyrod isn't the longtime but neither is Fields.Tyrod gives the Jets the better chance to win. AG is just embarrassing himself at this point. He was ALL talk this offseason and the end result is that this guy is clearly not a head coach. He should be one and done.

  3. Aaron Rodgers is getting the reverse Russell Wilson effect from this Jets season. I'm now wondering if we'll see the first 0-17 team. I didn't think the Jets were going to do well this season but I didn't think they would be historically bad.

And I hope this season finally kills all the talk about Justin Fields from pundits who point to some amazing scramble highlight as "proof" that he's a good quarterback. "Well they can't give up on him, look at his potential!" The guy's in his fifth year. He's not some rookie figuring this out. This is him. He's the latest guy who impressed in college with his athleticism who ran into a brick wall once he was in the NFL and required to do actual quarterback stuff.

  4. You are feeling sorry for the Londonites who attended the game. How about those of us who had to wake up early to watch that sh*t show?

  5. Justin Fields is that kid who called QB at the beginning of the backyard game, and everyone rolled their eyes but you had to let him because he brought the ball.

  6. I know a FG would have been highly unlikely from there, bearing in mind it was outside Nick Folk's range, but he had more chance of kicking 62 yards than the Jets offense had of making eight. He'd have had more chance of pissing onto the surface of the sun than them making eight yards on fourth down, so take the kick and lose going for the win. Glenn is way out of his depth as HC.

  7. Aaron Glenn is Spagnolo, Jim Schwartz, Vic Fangio – excellent defensive coordinators that blew up on the launchpad as first year head coaches.

He'll be somewhere else next year or the year after the latest.

  8. Rich tried but as a broncos fan coulda done with a less partisan take on the game (although the pain was fun to hear at times)

Just a bit too much clear emotion tied into one of the teams for my taste

Love the show though and appreciate the daily content 🙏
