Trade rumors are already starting and Olave is one of the guys who is in the discussion. There are two parts to this:

  1. Olave is the second most targeted player in the league, just one shy of Puka Nacua (who is playing out of his mind). I think they are trying to establish his trade value by pumping up his stat sheet (which he really kind of fucked up this past game by dropping a TD, multiple other passes, and slipping all over the field)

  2. We traded for Devaughn Vele, picked up Trey Palmer, and traded for Ja'Lynn Polk (we paid peanuts for a potential future asset next season). Trey Palmer was placed on IR and comes off IR right before the trade deadline. Coincidence? Maybe… Vele hasn't been utilized much but he made one of the best catches of the Pats game and it would have put us at about the 5 but it was called back for a holding. Kellen may be waiting to "unleash" him later in the season when the playbook opens up more.

Generally it seemed like a lot of roster moves were made at WR specifically before the season and I think it's because Kellen is trying to find pieces to put around Rattler (or Shough, but right now definitely Rattler) and Olave does not seem to be it.

  1. Odds are that Olave is the most targeted WR because he is the best receiver and the first Rattler read. I don’t think KM would scheme our offense around building trade value for an oft-concussed brittle receiver.

  2. I don’t think Olave has ever been recognized as a number one, not sure what that means when you say “our guy”? He’s a proven NFL talent with an injury history ..: nothing about that suggests the saints shouldn’t try to improve the WR roster with Vele, etc.

  3. This is far more conspiratorial than it needs to be, despite this weird smear campaign lately on Olave he is still the best WR on the team and is often the first read on an offense that is designed to get the ball out fast. Having said that Olave has one more year on his contract and with our cap situation we are unlikely to be able to give him the money is he going to want, Making him a trade candidate

I think olaves our best skill position player but he’s clearly suited as a deep ball receiver, not a #1. Especially after all the TRAUMA

Issue is shaheed is maybe even a better deep threat. Glad we are getting olave more involved tho. Kellen Moore starting to show some value here

  5. I don’t want us to pay Olave a big contract trade him 2nd would be great, more likely a 3rd

  6. Olave is the most targeted receiver because he’s the only receiver on the team that can actually run the full route tree

    Our WR room is awful

  7. As an Ohio State fan, seeing Olave leave would suck ass. I was so excited to see him come to NOLA. Him and his career are being punished because defenders have been actively trying to make him retarded on top of Carr’s hospital balls

  8. Man, y’all really should go outside and touch grass. Olave being blamed as the weakness on our offense was not something I thought I would see this year.

Guess the Rattler fan boys need someone to vent to heat to.

  9. He’s a great receiver with an 89.2% true catch rate (his catch rate when the ball is catchable) with many prior years of proven production and the ability to generate separation. That’s probably why he has so many targets.

  10. I hope they get rid of him before it’s too late. He’s one concussion away from retirement and we need to get something for him so we can get a real #1 dawg instead of this lackadaisical nonsense

  11. Y’all really think the Head coach picks who gets the ball like that? Do that make suggestions? Yes. But in live action, it’s on the QB.

  12. As a Bills fan , I’d happily trade you guys a 2nd or a 3rd if you dont want Olave that much

  13. IMO the problem is, that Olave is a good WR2 playing as 1. When they have a thread on the other side of the field, he makes good plays, but when he is the focus of the defense, he just doesn’t have it.

And Shaheed is a good WR3 playing as 2. And the others right now just fill in.
