Dallas Cowboys FALL To Carolina Panthers, Aftermath For Disaster Season | Blogging The Boys

What’s going on everybody? RJ O Cho here from SBNations bloggingtheboys.com. Hope all is well wherever you are. Hope you’re happy, safe, healthy, and I could barely make it through that without laughing because I know that like me, you are pretty upset. The Dallas Cowboys embarrassed all of us on Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers. And we’re here to talk about it because we are glutton for punishment. Uh, I’m here to talk about the Dallas Cowboys each and every single day on the Blog of the Boys YouTube channel. So, make sure you subscribe. Make sure you like this video. Leave a comment if you want. I’ll do my best to get to those. Tell a friend. All those things would be appreciated. Also, if you want to hang out with me on social media, I’m on X, Instagram, and Threads at RJOA, Tik Tok, RJ. Choa. I have a Facebook page you can go like. If you’re anywhere on the internet, I promise I’m there talking about the Cowboys, and I want to do it with you. The links to all these places down in the description below to make it nice and easy for you. Um, I hope that you were able to salvage your Sunday on some level. Uh, that you were able to eat some delicious food or maybe watch something interesting on television. I don’t know if you watched the other NFL games. The Buccaneers looked awesome. Uh, the Chiefs kind of bounced back on Sunday night. Um, I keep trying to there’s like a million shows I have on my, you know, need to watch or queue or whatever the each and every individual app is calling it. Uh, football season’s obviously very busy. It’s very fun. Um, but you know, sometimes it feels like a full-time job just trying to keep up with stuff that I want to watch. Um, okay, let’s get to it. Um, it’s not going to be good. It’s not. Let’s just let’s just be straight up. Let’s be honest. It is not going to be fun to talk about this game, even though we’ve had a night to rest on it because it was that upsetting. So, first things first, this is one of the most damning statistics that I have ever seen, ever. And I mean, I love to look up information like this, both positive and negative, obviously. Uh, but I find things like this to be interesting. ESPN’s Todd Archer shared this on Sunday evening. As you can see, I’m going to read it verbatim. From ESPN research, since starts were first tracked in 1950, Dak Prescott is the first quarterback to have 11 or more pass touchdowns and rush touchdowns. Let’s just call that touchdowns, non-receiving, obviously, from a quarterback standpoint. No turnovers and a non-winning record over a three start span. So this is when you look up stuff like this, I mean, as someone who does it, you know, you you you look up certain things and you curate them and you kind of adjust to to, you know, fit your parameters and whatnot. The three start span obviously is the last three games for the Dallas Cowboys, the tie against the Green Bay Packers, the win against the New York Jets, and the loss against the Carolina Panthers. So that’s one one and one. So that’s a nonwinning record. It’s not a losing record, but it’s a nonwinning record, right? Winning would be north of 500, which the Cowboys are. So, it’s a non-winning record. So, I will admit that it is very specific. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that I think it’s cherrypicked. Uh, but it is very specific. But what I will say, what I think we all will say is Dak Prescott is playing the quarterback position in the NFL at I mean just look, Baker Mayfield’s awesome and there are the standards, right? Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, right? Like we can go on and on and on forever, but Dak Prescott is playing the position at a very, very, very, very extraordinarily high level, higher than his record as a member of the Dallas Cowboys team would suggest. And that is a crime. That is unfair. That is so frustrating. That is just difficult to process and to logic in our brains. And it should not be that way. And it’s unfortunate. It’s unfortunate because we’re now six games in and that’s a very legitimate sample size. It’s a very legitimate data set and it’s more than enough to say this is probably going to be how they look in certain ways across the rest of this season and it’s tough to imagine any other way for the Cowboys and for this quarterback performance to end than disappointment. And this type of quarterback performance deserves so much better than that. And I know we’ve been saying this for a long time when it comes to Dak Prescott and when it came to his predecessor and Tony Romo and it just even though we know that it is the case and that it’s going to be the case, it doesn’t diminish how frustrating it is to feel because that is the most difficult thing to find in the NFL is a quarterback who will play at that level. And that the Cowboys are so ungrateful for that from a front office perspective is just a really maddening phenomenon. And man, I I know that we again are are just kind of shouting into the void with this and saying things that that we all knew and and you know, forecasted and predicted and that’s just tough to kind of deal with. But this this defense is that bad. And look, I don’t want to take full um responsibility away from the offense. I I talked about this in the postgame show. You can go watch that there. It was not a perfect game for the offense by by any stretch. And this was somewhat of my take um after the season opener against the Eagles, but that was a little bit of a different thing and the lightning delay and all that stuff to talk about this game. I mean, the the Cowboys offense should be allowed to be human. The Cowboys offense should be allowed to have a bad series. The Cowboys offense should be allowed to not end a drive or a possession in a touchdown. Do we want them to go three and out? No. Do would we rather them settle for field goals than touchdowns? Obviously not, right? like in a perfect world they would score a touchdown every single time they touched the ball. But we say in a perfect world in like a funny, you know, kind of commentary sense. Did the that like that’s actually the world that they must live in in order for the team to thrive in order for the team to have any kind of success in order for that to just even be possible, not guaranteed even, that has to be the case. And Sunday against Carolina was the latest example of that. This Cowboys offense has all of the pressure in the world from their own team resting on their shoulders. If they do not completely and totally and perfectly and flawlessly execute every time they touch the ball, you can bet your bottom dollar that the defense is going to make them regret not doing so when they get the ball next. And that’s the magic and the beauty and the pain of football is it’s the ultimate team sport. And and there are things that you aren’t a part of that you don’t control. And the things that the Cowboys offense are not a part of and not controlling right now are the things that are weighing down their allworldly performances to the first six games of the season. And again, I told you this wasn’t going to be fun. I told you I like to look stats up and look information up. And um every morning after a Cowboys game, I I get a cup of coffee and then a second cup of coffee. And uh my dogs are doing a great job of being uh good uh good co-workers right now sit in the couch with me and let the sun kind of just warm them uh while we look through the autopsy together. and it’s it’s tough. So, what you’re looking at here are some of my tweets at RJOA on Twitter or X. Um, this these three teams here, these are the three Cowboys teams to allow the most total yardage against them through the first six games of their respective seasons. Now, total yards is not the most legitimate way, I suppose, um, to look at an NFL team. I’m not saying just because of total yards we can draw these conclusions. there are are so many other points of advanced data and advanced information and advanced metrics. So again, please don’t just take this and run with it, but total yards is representative of some things, right? Like we can we can definitely utilize it to, you know, assemble some opinions and perspectives uh and thoughts and mindsets on this team. So that being said, that being understood, we’re in some pretty uncharted territory here, right? The these are the only three teams, only three defenses in Dallas Cowboys franchise history to allow 2400 yards or more obviously through the first six games of their respective seasons. You can see the 2025 team is right here. I’ve got them sorted uh by date. This year’s Cowboys team has allowed 2,470 total yards against them through their first six games of the season. That is the second most through this specific point in the season that any Dallas Cowboys defense has ever allowed. They only trail the 2013 group. And by nine yards, one more first down and this team would would have first place um all to themselves. But I know we’ve thrown out like casually like, “Oh, this reminds me of the 2020 season.” Obviously, we were right. But that’s in the rearview mirror now. This team has officially passed the 2020 team, at least to this point of the season. Through the first six games of the season, the 2025 Dallas Cowboys have allowed more total yards against them than even the 2020 version of the team. And the most cruel and twisted bit of irony is these two seasons, 2020 and 2025, are the ones that literally border Micah Parsons’ time with the Cowboys. Micah doesn’t fix all this on his own. Let’s be very clear about that. But it is funny and makes the trade look silly, even more silly in hindsight. Um, but dude, I mean, again, I told you this was not going to be fun. This was not going to be interesting to look at, uh, from the perspective of making you feel good, and neither is this. Now, that 2013 team um still holds the crown, if if you want to call it that. Um and if you are a Cowboys fan who was around in 2013, and I say that, um in the sense of if you were actively watching the Cowboys, I know we have some younger, you know, fans, maybe you are in high school or, you know, uh you know, you’re a younger fan or you weren’t, you know, just super into the team. I think you get my point. Um, so that 2013 season was rough. And that 2013 season featured three games in particular that that stood out. Like again, all of them were very bad, but three of them were like really, really, really all caps bad. One of them was Monday Night Football on the road against the Chicago Bears when it was like negative9 degrees or whatever. One of them was at the Superdome against New Orleans where the Saints did not punt a single time. Uh, one of them is the one that we’re going to be looking at right here somewhat adjacently uh was in Detroit against the Lions, the Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson lines. Again, I know that feels like a long time ago, but um they’re relevant today. How are they relevant today? Well, you don’t want to know. Rico Dattle, shout out Rico, by the way. Rico called his shot and landed it. I’ve got nothing but respect for that. Um, Rico Dattle had over 230 total yards from scrimmage on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. can see he had 239. Specifically, Rico Dattle on Sunday against the Cowboys was the first player to reach 230 total yards from scrimmage against the Dallas Cowboys since Calvin Johnson did it in the infamous Cowboys game at Detroit in 2013. You’re not reading that improperly, by the way, if you don’t remember. Calvin Johnson literally had 329 yards total yards from scrimmage that day against the Cowboys. It was a very, very, very, very dark day. And as you can see, the Cowboys, like they did Sunday against Carolina, almost pulled it off and almost won. But that’s it. Like, if you’re a Cowboys fan that remembers that game against the Lions, you remember that Calvin Johnson game. It’s something that kind of sticks in your memory. It’s a meme sort of worthy moment in Cowboys, I wouldn’t even say recent history, but history at large. This Rico Dattle performance is now right in there. He’s literally in the same territory as Megatron against the Dallas Cowboys. It’s unbelievable that this team finds a way to do these kinds of things, yet here we are watching it all unfold. Um so look, it is um not shocking that um like things like the playoffs uh feel, you know, really impossible for this team. And and look, I know that as I said that, you might have said or you might be getting ready to type your comments saying like, “Dude, Arj, I don’t even want to hear about playoffs. I don’t want to talk about it.” Whatever. And look, I’m if I’m with you, like if we had to bet collectively, I wouldn’t bet on it, right? I wouldn’t bet on them making the playoffs. But, you know, our job and our our kind of purpose around here is to talk about the Cowboys and everything going on in the universe of the Cowboys. And so, again, we’re we’re at a point in time now I can like my co-workers are talking about playoffs as far as the teams they cover and looking at the NFC playoff picture and must must be nice. But um but as it relates to the Cowboys, playoffs seem like a difficult proposition at this particular moment in time. The Dallas Cowboys right now through six games have only won two of them. The tie makes things wonky, I understand, but they have won two of their first six games. There is not a single team in Dallas Cowboys franchise history who had two or fewer wins through the first six games of their respective season that went on to make the playoffs. It’s never happened. There have been 14 teams who had this situation u that they were facing with regards to their respective start through six games in Dallas Cowboys franchise history and none not a single one of the previous 14 teams went on to play in the postseason. Um, obviously making the playoffs, doing things like that, uh, is a little bit more possible in today’s day and age just because you have three wild cards, right? Like you can get hot, things can happen, things can change. And I’m not saying or speculating or even, you know, kind of manifesting that that’s going to happen to these Dallas Cowboys. I’m just saying that we’ve seen teams, non Dallas Cowboys teams, obviously, who have managed to fall behind, this far behind the proverbial eightball, and still find a way to to overcome it and to reach the playoffs. And some of that is just that circumstances around them within their own division just, you know, worked out in their favor. And maybe that happens to the Cowboys. Maybe they get hot. Again, we live in a world of infinite possibilities. But historically speaking, right now, the Dallas Cowboys are in some, you know, pretty difficult waters that would suggest that they are not going to be a team playing beyond week 18 of this regular season. Um, if you’re curious who the teams are, I’m sure you were, these are them. The last time the Cowboys were in this kind of boat, speaking of waters, was 2020. They only had two wins. They were two and four. Again, the two three and one thing is is very unique. Um, now there are actually uh I wrote this uh for our site. I believe five teams uh who were two, three, and one through six games across all of NFL history that did go on to make the playoffs. The last team um in this specific boat uh was the 1981 New York Jets. So there is a historical precedent just not within the Dallas Cowboys. But this look the these are some some seasons and some teams that again if you’ve been around long enough you do not hold you know tight to your heart as far as your memories are concerned. 2020 was awful. 2015 was awful. 2010 was awful. And look, I I’m just saying what happened in those seasons here. We we all hope and and wish and want health for everyone involved. But what makes those three seasons stand out in in recent Dallas Cowboys franchise history is that those all featured significant injuries to the quarterback position. Tony Romo was essentially lost for the season in all of 2015, but he did technically start four games. Um in 2010 he missed the majority of the season and obviously in 2020 Dak Prescott missed the majority uh thanks to uh his ankle injury. I mentioned my dogs. They are doing a great job of being good co-workers. Honey, come here. Honey, let’s get on the video. Come here, honey. Come here. Good girl, honey. Good girl. All right, Honey wants to finish this video with me. She’s been a very good girl. Her and Bear Bear, you guys got all excited by something going on. So, good job, honey. Say hi. Say hi, honey. They just got some baths recently, and so um they’re nice and cuddly and nice and soft. It was a good weekend for us here in the OOA household. So, um, yeah, playoffs not exactly in the cards, it would seem for this Dallas Cowboys team, but you never know. You never know when things can change. So, honey, let’s go ahead and let’s get out of here. Let’s thank everyone for their time and let’s apologize for our screaming and um, thank you everybody. I know that times are tough for the Cowboys, but like I told you during our postgame show, I really, really, really love more than anything just kind of talking with all of you and I appreciate all of you. So, if you haven’t yet, please consider subscribing right here to the Blog and the Boys YouTube channel. uh like the video, tell a friend, all those things really help. Hit me up on social media. You can obviously get access to me on any one of these platforms. You can DM me on Instagram. That’s the most direct way to get to me. Um email also works though, arjbnation.com. Uh for myself, for Bear, and for Honey, we thank you for your time and uh we hope that you have a wonderful rest of your day. I hope you enjoy Monday Night Football. I hate the double Monday night games. It’s dumb. I don’t know why we’re still doing it as a society. I hope that we move on from So, uh, thanks so much for hanging out everybody. We will see you next time. And, uh, even though they upset us. Let’s go Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys were embarrassed by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and have created a lot of hard questions for the team to answer about themselves. How did it get so bad? What comes next?

The reality is that Dak Prescott and the offense are being significantly weighed down by this historically bad defense. Unfortunately that trend is likely going to continue across this season. Going to the playoffs feels impossible right now.

RJ Ochoa discusses it all after having a day to reflect on it even more. His dogs make a special audio appearance, and one even finds a way on camera!

  1. Stock down to Cowboys Fans. Anyone think the defense was going to be good with no Tank Lawrence. No Parsons. Diggs, Bland and Overshown always hurt. While missing on defensive players in the draft and no real Free Agent replacements. That’s on you.

  2. People still hand wringing over Parsons when its Diggs and Bland who they should be complaining about. Neither were worth the new contracts.I said it all along. Both had magical lucky seasons but neither were top corners. Anyone who believed otherwise needs glasses. With ANY type of half decent coverage this team could make a run but unless some miracle happens better buy stock in kleenex.

  3. Wow, you took your copium shot early this week RJ. I mean I respect your optimism but holy cow even mentioning playoffs with this team in the same sentence is absolutely hilarious. I predict right now, if by some way, some miracle Dallas makes the playoffs this year they'll lose by 40 in the wildcard round.

  4. The Bears had a 4-8 record at the time of the firing of Matt EBERFLUSE falling short of playoff expectations of last year in November he did a crappy job as a head coach but yet an 82-year-old man decides oh it's best for the cowboys to hire him back WHAT!!!!? I NEED HIM I NEED JERRY JONES TO BE FORCED TO TAKE A FITNESS TEST TO SEE HE'S EVEN MENTALLY ABLE TO KEEP RUNNING THE BUSINESS
