Hour 2: What is Trending | Kyle Whittingham Deflects BYU Player-Related Queries | What’s Whit Doing?
It’s time to get your morning started with the news you need to know. News of this is what’s trending with DJ and PK # NFL [Music] in motion here to the near side. Going to hand it to Alier. Here goes Tyler. Bang 10 five and it on the board touchdown big boy. He banged away at a man at the 15 and then just dropped the hammer into four-wheel drive. Buffalo adds another man to the front. They’re going to handle Robinson right side through the first wall around the corner. Here goes Bjan Robinson. Keeps his feet 30 25 10 5 touchdown Atlanta. Oh my goodness. Football at the 45 yd line. Bears territory. Snap back. Sugar rush and a throw to the left is caught by Swift. sidelines and he gets away from a tackle away at the 30. Angles middle 15 10 goodbye DeAndre Swift the touchdown catch and run 55 big ones. This will be a 38 yd try between the hash marks in the rain in the wind. Our version of the Hail Mary. Scott Daly sends it back. Spot down kick up Jake Modi from 38. It is gone. Time expires and the Bears win their third in a row for the first time in five seasons off of Jake Moody. We haven’t even met Jake Moody yet. Highlights from two NFL games on Monday night. The Falcons beat the Bills 24-4. Bills just looking unfocused. Weird vibes out there. Guys, what’s going on? You practiced all week, right? I don’t know. It wasn’t clicking. It would didn’t look like the Bills were supposed to look PK and maybe a lot of that credit should go to the Falcons. But late in the game, you think, oh, down 10, they’ll at least go get a touchdown here because the Falcons will let them go down the field, keep everything in front of them, use the clock. Instead, turned it right over on downs, throwing balls, and there’s like nobody within 10 yards of where the ball lands. What is going on? You’re going with the brand names, huh? There’s a mess. Maybe the Falcons are better than you think. Absolutely could be. They’re off to a nice start. They’ve been down for a while. They’ve had a chance to pile up a lot of draft picks. So, there’s that. And then the Bears beat the Commanders. I got to say, the Bears looked like they were out of sorts, too. They had a great scoring drive going. The ball goes right through Caleb Williams hands. And he’s over on the sideline. What happened? What happened? I don’t think that’s what your teammates want to hear from you. But let a game-winning drive. You’re down on him. I am down on you. It was not good. Well, the end result, the end result was they went out and they had the game-winning drive, which the weather was terrible there. And that was part of what happened. the ball going through his hands on a wet night. Not really that hard to believe or that surprising. Washington couldn’t even execute a handoff. Nope. They had the same thing. Gave that thing away with a fumble late in the game. Gave it away. Bears kicked the late field goal and they win 2524. Titans fire their head coach Brian Callahan is out. The former Utah quarterback Mike McCoy. We’ll have Frank Dol on later this morning. We can talk to him about uh Mike. Mike is now the uh interim head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Is he friends with Mike McCoy? Uh they played in adjacent years. I think they know each other. Although I’m not sure if I can’t remember if McCoy red shirted while Frank was playing. I think he came in as a JC transfer maybe right after him, but I think they know each other. We’ll find out. McCoyy’s been a head coach before in the league. He’s been a longtime offensive coordinator. He’s been a coach in the NFL for decades now. So, he’ll get a shot here. Lion safety Bryant Branch oneame suspension with pay for his role in sparking the brief brawl at the end of that’s without pay. Okay. Without pay uh worst kind for the end of Sunday Night Football Detroit Kansas City. He’s appealed the suspension. So we’ll see. Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin questioned the move the Browns made in trading quarterback Joe Flacco to the Bengals in a rare intra division trade between two rivals. To be honest, it was shocking to me. Andrew Barry must be a lot smarter than me or us because it doesn’t make sense to me to trade the quarterback you think enough of to make your starter to a division opponent that’s hurting an area. But that’s just my personal feelings. Who’s he care? Well, I think he’s looking around and the Steelers are like, has this division just been gifted to us? the Ravens and the Bengals who have top five, maybe top four quarterbacks. So why would he criticize it then if they’ve they have injuries. It opens everything up. Maybe Cincinnati can get it together now. He just said the division was gifted to him. I I think it is, but maybe Tomlin doesn’t. It’s there for the tanking for the Steelers in a way we might not have guessed at the start of the year, but injuries happen. Certainly way I wouldn’t have guessed at the start of the year, but injuries happen and those elite quarterbacks are are sidelined. [Music] I don’t think it’ll be enough for the Bengals to get it together and have a great season, but maybe Tomlin apparently raising an eyebrow there. DJ PK [Music] #col. I love Penn State. Met my wife there. It’s my alma mater. Fan since I was born. I was born I think probably had a Penn State shirt when I was born. I love Pat Craft and really sad really sad to see uh coach Franklin go. Matt Rule not exactly shutting down the rumors, the whispers, the speculation about him being the leading candidate for the Penn State job. He’s at Nebraska right now. He did say, “I’m really happy here.” But he could leave a place where he’s really happy and go to a place where they pay more. They pay more and he has roots and he could be the leading candidate. Penn State AD Pat Craft acknowledged James Franklin’s record in big games played a role in the school opting to move on from him despite owing him $49 million in a buyout. Franklin 4 and21 record at Penn State against AP top 10 opponents 1 and 18 against top 10 Big 10 opponents. North Carolina coach Bill Bichc called the rumors of his negotiation a buyout with UNCC categorically false and that he is in there for the long haul with hopes that his process will result in a winning program. Bellich said there were things we could have done better but widely praised in battle GM Michael Lombardi as having done a good job despite their two and three start and apparently lacking talent on the roster. What’s up? Yeah. DJ and PK [Music] # Utah Jazz Jazz lose to the Mavericks in preseason game 114 101. Bryce Sensal led Utah with 16 points. Ace Bailey played just 11 minutes before leaving due to what Will Hardy said was tendonitis in A’s knees. Utah plays one last preseason game Thursday night at the Delta Center against the Portland Trailblazers. And then on to the regular season. I’m not going to allow that this year. Not going to allow what? It is simply Delta Center. DJ and PK # college basketball. The AP Top 25 poll is out. BYU is number eight in the preseason AP top 25 poll released yesterday. It’s the highest preseason ranking in program history. as Kevin Young looks to lead the Cougars to new heights this season. He’s the most impactful young since Brigham. It’s as simple as that. There it is. Sorry, Steve. State, move over, Steve. Places people that would never come here understand this is the place. And here they are. It’s so big. They got a couple of exhibition games, but their first regular season game is November 3rd in Las Vegas. Yeah, I’ll be there. That a kid. It’s that big. Demands your presence. It does. It’s like a big game is a magnet. PK magnet. Sometimes you repel. Sometimes you are attracted. You are attracted to this big game. Yeah. Well, they they called and asked me if I could cover it, so I said, “Yeah.” BYU right behind Duke and Michigan, right in front of Kentucky and Texas Tech. How about that for a neighborhood? There’s your uh your second five right there. Better than my religious one in Sandy. Oo, there it is. DJ MPK # Major League Baseball. The stretch and the pitch. Julio swinging a drive deep down the left field line. Stay fair. It is a fair ball. Goodbye baseball. Julio Rodriguez. Rosar with the go ahead run at second. The next offering swinging a fly ball drilled right center field. This is back at the wall and it’s gone. Jorge Palano, Mr. October. A threerun smash over the wall in right field. 10 is a fly ball to center. It’s hit pretty well. Felix back. Felix at the track. Felix settling up at the wall. He jumps up and he caught it. Oh, he bobbled it, but he ended up catching it. Tagging at third is Hernandez. Here’s the throw home and he is going to be out at the plate. So now the Brewers are going to have another out at third as Contrus is going to run to the bag and double him off. And the Brewers are going to get out of this set inning. So here we go. The 2- two from Trinan. Terra strikes out swinging. Blake Trinan slams the door. That’s a win for LA. Two baseball playoff games. The Mariners are halfway to the World Series up two games to none. in the American League Championship Series as they dominate Toronto 10 to3. Mariners has never been there. 49th year of playing baseball. Maybe maybe just two games away. Meanwhile, the Dodgers. Okay, Blake Snell was just awesome. One hit shutout ball through eight innings. And then the bullpen, PK, uh the bullpen, a walk, a double, a couple more walks, they give up a run on a sack fly, but somehow they escape. Well, yeah, the Blakes had it going on. The Blakes. Both Blakes. Yeah, Blake squared. Blakes the second power. Weirdest double play I’ve ever seen. Eight to six to two. It’s a ball off the wall with the bases loaded and it’s a force at home plate and then the catcher jogs to third for another force cuz the runners are confused. They don’t know if the ball’s caught or what. Don’t know whether to advance or not. You got to look at the umpires, man. Man, they gave the safe sign right off the bat. And Hernandez can’t field. He can’t run the bases. He can just hit home runs. And I don’t know what was going on there. Even with that in mind, they should have still been able to score the runner. Even if the f guys on guy on first was irrelevant, but the the the runner on second. Uh if even if he didn’t know, at least you get a at least a run off of that. Uh but they didn’t. And but they still won the game. So that’s it becomes an oddity. But footnote. Yeah, it was a weird weird play and and then you know I picked Toronto to go to the World Series in the in the spring and wow it just got bludgeoned. I mean I I literally can say my prediction I wasn’t potentially anyway. It’s not over but potentially I’m an entire country off. Yeah. I don’t think that’s as bad as it sounds. Sounds bad. I don’t think it’s actually that bad. Well, you thought Dodgers James in the World Series, right? Yes. Yeah. So, the Jays go out in the ALCS and the Dodgers might do it. That’s not out yet. But, uh, Seattle’s got a lot of mojo going on. They remind me, they were record-wise better than the Diamondbacks a couple years ago, but they remind me of them in terms of things that were going their way. DJ and PK, it was they got three Diamondbacks in their starting lineup. So, maybe that’s it. Geez. Yock. Thank you. You’re welcome. Yeah. Thank you, Arizona. [Music] #NHL. Here’s Dylan Gunther trying to backhand it in front. Rebound, they score. And that is JJ Purka’s first. JJ Purka scores his first goal of the year. Early third period, tied the game 1-1. But the Mammoth couldn’t get the big goal and take the lead. Chicago does. They had an empty netter. They scored on the power play to go up 2-1. They win it 3-1. The Mammoth figured to be in a lot of close games against PK last year. A lot of those late goals third period overtime win against them. They got to turn some of those around and they did in Nashville and against a Chicago team that uh had been giving up a lot of goals. Somehow they managed just one. This is awesome because there was just too much last night and there was too much and I told my wife I said I really can’t pay attention to hockey but the good thing is DJ will act like he knows everything about it and I won’t even have to say a thing. Two football games, two baseball games, the Jazz preseason game, and the Mammoth. Well, I I had to watch KSL. I mean, you know, this is the big debut. You know what I mean? Wow. Look at me, you freaking traitor. But, you know, I mean, it was good for you. Yep. Wow. A traitor. Yep. That’s what he said right there. Yeah. He got traded. He got tra Okay, there we go. Don’t slay your words. Got traded. Slay my words. He got traded. We went back in return. Two players to be named later as it turns out. Cash considerations, guys. I don’t think so. Did the Jazz win? We’ll tell you next. Two two guys to tell us next. Well, we already know. Montreal Canadians defenseman Lane Hudson, who won the Calder Trophy last year, signed an 8-year, $70.8 million extension. Montreal locking up one of the premier young talents. What is trending? Brought to you by Shamrock Plumbing. There’s no job too big or too small and get the personal touch with Shamrock Plumbing. All right, coming up, Frank Dolce is going to join us and we will talk rivalry game with Frank. Austin Collie, too, if you’re looking. Yes. And Austin Collie, a ute and a cougar. A former top. The question of the day is next. Stay with us. This is JJ and Alex. Bill Bender joins us sporting news where he can find his by line. Texas Tech defense is really impressive. I would say I think they’re half of the Big 12 championship game. The other half’s the the part I can’t figure out. I mean, will it be a Utah rematch? Will it be BYU? We should want Big 12 in every conference. We should want parody and fun games and fourth quarter league changes. And every time I turn a Big 12 game on, there’s excitement. You know, even like TCU Colorado, we came down to the wire a little bit there for a minute, but the best path to the playoff and the national title game is to have those two schools that two or three schools that separate themselves. That’s one thing that frustrates me about college football, if I’m honest. I’m a big NFL guy, too. I love watch Sunday, but the beauty of the NFL and why it sells more than anything else is we literally change our mind about who’s going to win the Super Bowl every second. Catch JJ and Alex afternoons from 3 to 7 on 975 the KSL Sports Zone. Join Hans and Scotty tomorrow for the Cougar preview show brought to you by Beehive Meals. It’s time for the question of the morning. Hot takes or toast? Kyle Whittingham declined to talk about BYU players when asked about Bear Bachmire on Monday. Why would he do that? Just 91 comments. which is four or five times more comments than we get on a lot of these questions. And ironically, I thought when he did it, I thought he’s trying not to, you know, create a scene. You praise him too much. It’s uh you criticize him, you’re going to it’s going to turn into a thing. If you praise him and does that help them recruit better not to just say anything but might file this over under over underthinking it or excuse me over file it under overthinking this PK because it’s going to be a thing no matter what and sure enough here it is a thing well they would not criticize them there would be nothing to criticize normally in those system which he did the prior week you praise a lot of the opponents and players he praised Jordan Tyson rel uh before he even took questions a week ago he went with their numbers the zeros Tyson and I don’t know what the running back’s number is and he said the quarterback right and here you got nothing to say about Bear Bachmeire the freshman nothing what have you seen from BYU quarterback you see you know I’m just going to focus on us this week our guys our coaches so I’m not going to give much thought on on the opponent this week and so uh really you have to ask them you know what what they think of bear I think the followup should have been Why not? You did it freely and openly with uh ASU last week. Why won’t you do it for BYU? Why? That’s the question. The question that he left unanswered is why not you you routinely everybody does it. You know, it’s the old Lou Hol. No matter who you were playing, you were playing the best team of all time that next week. It could be a money game. It could be a money game. For that, you would have you would have sworn they were 20 point underdogs. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. I mean, it was he was legendary for doing that. 35 point favorite. You always praise the under uh the opponent. Uh Kehlani went to to gave a three paragraph answer on Deon Dampier. Yep. So why did he do it? That’s the question. Why? Greg says why? Oh, thank you Nancy Carrian. Greg, because in his mind somehow someway this is a competitive advantage. Laughing cry emoji. Oh yeah, his competitive advantages. Devin, he’s trying to play a metal game and he’s the only only one playing it. Why? Laughing, crying. It’s not what he did. It’s why did he do it, Denise? Because he doesn’t want to create bulletin board material, which you get around by just praising everyone, even if it’s a money game. He’s great. He’s been off to a phenomenal start, man. We film I’ve seen on him. He’s great. That That’s Billboard or bulletin board material. That’s billboard material. Everybody knows in Rocktober he’s rock meer. I want to rock Meyer all night and he’ll dance the Cougars into sunlight. Thank you, Michael Kimberly. Because he’s focusing on his own team as it should be. Well, why wasn’t he focusing on this his own team last week? Because we change nothing. We do everything the same every week. But wait, you changed that. I What’s funny to me is if you’re a cougar, you have to rip them. And if you’re a ute, even though it makes no sense, you have to defend them. You just have to defend them to the ultimate. So then under that theory, guess Scotty’s affiliation here. Uh because he’s a bleep. He mastered the art in the school of herb coug. Uh Scotty is he went to Sand Deus High. He’s from Paris, France, and he lives in Mumbai. Well, that’s not our typical listener. Faults, faults, and faults. There’s a decent chance that that’s all made up. Yuck. So, why would he go sand Deus, though? I don’t know. Maybe that part’s Sand Deas High School rules. Ryan Patterson went to San Mo reference. Sand Deis. Yeah. Ryan Patterson went to Sand Deus. My co-workers at the Daily Breeze. Oh, yeah. Okay. He’s now the prep editor at the Orange County Register. living large covering covering modern day. All right. Uh he actually coordinates it. He doesn’t Cooper. We better see all the you fans questioning why Whittingham is giving cliche compliments about teams players in their other games this season. He’s a physical player. He plays hard. Oh, he gets after you. That defense is flying around. Yeah. It’s just unusual right off the bat, man. Yeah. Laying down. Well, see, I think what he’s doing actually is not different. What is he doing? That’s uh he’s doing this what he he always circles the wagon, so to speak, when they play BYU. So, he he’s actually consistent in his inconsistency. He’s not inconsistent. He’s consistent about BYU as opposed to the rest of the schedule, right? He treats it differently. Yes. Brook says it’s because he’s planning his retirement party and he has no type of He has no time for these type of things. No conversation about the Cougs. Now, he has been It’s been brought up twice. It has in the last You brought it I brought it up last uh Saturday. You brought it up reading there’s a a young man Justin some physical uh limitations and so he’s always there and he gets to ask the first question and you read it for him. I did. Uh and he prefaced it with that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That this could be the very last uh one. I I don’t know anymore because there was a lot of people saying uh including people that were that I consider very close to him saying, “Oh, that was he’ll that was the last time he’ll be in Label Edward Stadium as the opposing coach two years ago.” And here he is, right? Yeah. So, one thing I’ve learned as uh time gets mighty precious when there’s less of it, you tend to value it more. And so, do you want to give this up? So, I don’t know. don’t bother asking me uh if uh if and when it’s this year. I don’t know and I’m not sure he knows. And so he’s he debunked that theory that he’s going to retire this year twice and if that’s what he wants to do, that’s what he should do. So, and plus, you know, you got to you got to play the game there because it could hurt recruiting. And he’s he’s been out recruiting. You see him at the high schools and and so forth. Everything that he’s done, he’s continuing to do. So, he’s showing no signs of that this could be the last year. Uh, and he doesn’t talk about it now. He acknowledged that it became a story because in recent seasons, he had talked about it and made comments about it, but he doesn’t make any comments about it anymore. So, that’s uh up to him and and his wife and so forth to decide what they want to do. But, that’s not even an issue right now uh as far as uh his retirement. But this is what he does. He He always changes things up uh uh for BYU week. He has I mean back when they used to have far more accessibility media-wise, they would reduce it to BYU week. Now there’s nothing to reduce because they barely have it. 20 minute press conferences are down to 15. And I think he did have one four-minute Tuesday. No, he does a Tuesday, but total’s been like two and a half minutes, right? I got to go to the coaches show. Boom. Gone. Yeah. Right. And so, but they did go like four. So, that’s understand. But that’s it. That’s all he’s available for those Monday and Tuesdays right there. Right. And in the prior years, they used to have more, but in BYU week, they would reduce it. So, this is his way. This is it’s always he’s sending a message to his team that we need to up the ante. We need to be more intense. Blah blah blah. Bronco Manden Hall is one of the most honest coaches that I’ve covered in in uh many many decades of covering this stuff. He said after the fact, I underestimated the level of intensity and emotion that was involved in my first rivalry game as a head coach. You know, he didn’t play in it. He didn’t grow up. He grew up here, but he grew up here but took off. Yeah, he was at Oregon State, right? He’s a snow and then Oregon State. Uh, so but then he stood on the sideline and came away with a different appreciation for how things really work. He talked about it. So I think it’s important we’ll talk to Austin Collie and Frank Dolce for that matter about how it is different. We can say it’s just another game and it is just another game in the standings. Although this year just another game in the standings ends up being a huge game because you’re playing a potential threat to you getting into the conference title game when you were playing West Virginia it wasn’t. Uh and so the Devils it was you BYU clearly it is plus the emotion that goes into it and the national folks have picked up on it. That’s why Fox faking is coming here in the first place. had a success for the game at 6 and for the the pregame all Saturday morning. Yeah. Right. And so you have to match and meet and be aware of the intensity from the other side. And so this is what he’s doing. His his consistency is just that. It’s it’s unlike any other week. And that’s what that’s the message he sent yesterday. I’m not going to talk about them. And it was clear. It was planned. It was not like I don’t want to talk about them. No. No. He went right at it. No, it barely threw the question. Yeah, I mean it was legitimate question. The guy What’s on your mind? Sparky. No, that’s a different conversation. You want to bring up your See, now he needs to be careful because he downplays BYU all the way. Mhm. Yeah. He doesn’t really want me calling him Cosmo. He really doesn’t. So, he needs somebody needs to tell me at some point. I’m benevolent and so I back off. But if you want to come, I’m willing to go. And I’ve I’ve been there. I was there Saturday night. I was there that. So that’s one. That’s two. I mean, I can count. I’ve literally seen him and heard him. I can times the charm. If he wants to If you want I am always always ready to spar. What’s on your mind, Sparky? But I could clearly start calling him Cosmo. And I’m thinking he probably doesn’t want that. He doesn’t want that. Please, just once. Yeah. So, I don’t I don’t start stuff, but I Okay, hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I would not out with him. I won’t. Okay. I backed off twice with him. Okay, fair. But yeah, but I I can go you or me. But if you want, I can call him Cosmo because if you’re going to call me my alma mater’s mascot, does he really want me? That would be like for like right there. That would be like for like that. And I’m guessing that would not be his ideal scenario. Yeah. Who wins that one? Who loses that one? Cuz I’m fine being called that. Oh, I think everyone else in the room would win all the way around. Oh, especially you. That That’s your Well, there’s a phrase I want to use that I can’t. Can I quote because you love conflict as long as you’re a bystander and you don’t have to get your hands dirty. Is that conflict or is that humor? Conflict is you two like going at it. Well, if I start calling Cosmo, we’re going to be going at it. And and I quote, “Do you really want me to go into it?” Yeah. But that’s that’s your fantasy. You can be a part of it, but nothing can be traced back to you. You didn’t So you’re on the periphery. You accuse me of doing that, but that is your there’s a phrase I want to use, but I can’t. Um, tell me in the break that uh that you just you just absolutely love. You love that because then you can you can be a part of it and partake of it, but you don’t TV guys don’t like to get their hands dirty. That’s just the reality of it. If it’s funny in there, I would enjoy it. Newspaper people like to We get our whole body dirty. That’s that’s the difference between the two. I mean, it’s just a fact. You can argue it all you want or disagree. That’s okay. But it’s it’s the truth. So, no, I’ll I’ll let that go. I’m not I’m not interested in that because if I did call him Cosmo, I think that would be too sensitive. So, I’ll take it. And you have choice because I don’t really want to mix it up. I don’t think he thought it through. that. Well, wait. If you do me and then I do you, where does that go? Yeah. Because I mean, you don’t want to even acknowledge the existence of BYU. And that’s which is kind of what this is about. I mean, this just plays off that notion that they’re the enemy. Yeah. That’s what a rivalry is about. I’ve got no problem with that. I’ve got I got I have zero problem with what he’s doing because what he’s telling us is that this is so special that I’m not going to mention it. I care far more about this than I do this. Now, he’ll deny that, but that’s inaccurate because he does treat it differently. And you can just go back, you can go on our website, kslports.com, click on it, and you can go back and listen to his monologue. uh on the Monday of the ASU game, he praises three guys right off the bat. Here, the best he would do was just acknowledge some uh statistical similarities. Great. Bore me the crap with numbers. Who cares? But it is different because recruiting hangs on this, too. In a way, it doesn’t in the Arizona State game. Well, they’ll tell you that it doesn’t, but it’s a lie. It does. Yeah. But I I just think that it’s it’s I don’t think it’s about recruiting right now. It’s about winning this game that we need to be serious about that. They need to be serious about winning the Arizona State game, too. And they were and they did. But that’s different because because this is a rival game. I mean, obviously. I mean, I’m surprised you even asked me. I mean, it’s obviously different. Yeah. The fans treat it different. Everyone treats it different. There’s nothing that compares to it. There’s not any game that they can play. They can run around and say, “Oh, we wanted to bring in Michigan. We had this opportunity to play Florida, and that’s great and all, but what the hell did beating Florida do for you?” I don’t think it did. It didn’t do anything. They they continue to say that. Now, they don’t have to say it because they have to until the conferences break up again. They have to play each other. But that was their big reasoning. Oh, well, we had the opportunity to play Florida. Great. You went down there a crappy Florida team and got beat. What did that do for you? Did the kids from Florida come flocking to Utah? Not really. But that was Well, they lost that game. They went on and had a good year anyway. So, and Florida didn’t. It didn’t wreck them. Right. And I watched I was at that game. This is not a good Florida team. But then all the youth homers. Oh, Florida’s going to have a great year. Except they didn’t. Right. And then the very same thing happened the next year. Except the youths won. Yeah. But Florida wasn’t a good team, right? They won with a a walk-on quarterback. They went they went five and seven and right weren’t bull eligible. You scheduled them and they’re an awesome brand name, but they ended up playing him like during the worst three-year run and well, it would have been far you would have got much bang for your buck by beating BYU, even though the fans say no, we don’t want it blah blah blah. Well, nobody stormed the field when they beat uh Florida. The athletic director didn’t come out on the field to complain about a call against Florida. Nope. Didn’t go to the press conference. I mean, you lost a bunch of close games last year, but there was only one time he gets up on the podium and makes a statement. There was only one time he came out on the field and every one of those games that you lost, they were perfectly refereed. No, they were not. Guaranteed they were not. And I and and I thought Haron took way too much grief for that. It’s in. You got to allow people to be emotional. Plus, you cannot judge them in their so-called quote unquote worst moment. This game was absolutely stolen from us. We were excited about being in the Big 12, but tonight I am not. You know that, Bobby. The second part of the statement was the one that I think got the Big 12 all Yeah, but he was caught up in the moment. That’s not who he is. But that got him a fine. Find him. Great. But let’s not act like, “Oh, that’s Mark Harland. Man, this guy’s a loose cannon running out on the field, popping off, hating the conference. Wow, that guy.” No, he he got caught up in the moment because it was BYU. I get it. And fine. I forgive him and he doesn’t need my forgiveness. Well, it’s a large amount of money to all of us in the scope of an athletic department budget. I mean, they rather not played it paid it. They’d rather have the money, but it was like they paid 80k not to play BYU and home. That’s true story. The Larry the Larry Christoviac era. Did they cancel any other game in the non-conference? Coach ADK, man. Let me check. Right. It was just one. That’s the heated nature of the rivalry. DJPK, it’s 975 the KSL Sports Zone. And to the best one, we’ll give you an attic kid. Add a kid. Add a boy. Well, I mean, we don’t want to be gender. Oh, sorry. Specific. Add a person. Add a kid. At a ki. Two t’s. It’s two t’s. Oh, really? At a k. Otherwise, it would be thing. Ate a kid. Ate a kid. It’s a kid. Atte declining to talk about BYU players and ask about bear bear Bachmann on Monday. Why would he do that? Get creative. Use our app, send it there. Tom says he’s right up there with Urban Meyer. Does Urban not talk about uh opposing teams or did he not opposing players? I don’t remember that. He just said the team down south. The team down south, but in recent years, he’s been using BYU. Well, he has to. I mean, no one no one’s nationally. No one will get it. Somebody said South Carolina is what’s he talking about, right? Frank says it’s because he’s scared and worried that his no pass offense is going to get beat by the team down south. All caps again. Two exclamation points. Oh yeah. If they beat him third time in a row, then clearly the rivalry has changed. It shifted. The power has shifted. Can’t argue with three straight. Yeah. At that point scoreboard, if they win this game, the Cougars, they’ll be 18 and two in their last 20 games. Wow. That’s very impressive. And in theory anyway, we hear that they’ve got more money to spend. The And they allow they’ve changed the rules. What do they call the two studs sticking out of your no protruding out of your nose? They allow a a a ladies woman’s golf me team member to do that. They put out an action shot and she’s got the two silver studs sticking out of her nose. What do they call those things? They have a name. No, nose piercing. Well, I think of nose piercing up top. This is This is in the middle coming out where the boogers come out. I think it’s like the septum piercing or something. And they allow that. That was unheard. That would have been unheard of. Yeah. I couldn’t believe it when you told me yesterday. We were talking about it in the break. Physical evidence. Yak looked it up. There it is. He did look it up. Then he looked up the gal from Henderson, Nevada. Well, that explains it. Nevada. Don’t denigrate Henderson. You’re the one who told me. I just Leave Henderson alone. I You You looked it up when I told you. I saw it on social media and you didn’t believe me. You looked it up and man, if they’re going to loosen all the rules or most of the rules. Come one, come all. You’re going to get paid. You’re going to Don’t you dare have a beard, though. I Man, it seems like some of them got those, too. They got the beard cards. Yeah. Everybody’s got a card. They’re burning down forestes. Everybody’s got a card. Uh but if they win this ball game, man, three straight. Yeah. Two and0 in the Big 12 and eight. It’s a new era, obviously. Conference realignment in your last 20 games. 18 and two. I mean, that’s a good stretch right there. Yeah, that’s probably as good as any stretch you can even think to have. And both losses were by a combined uh what nine points. I think one was five, one was four, and one was to the eventual Big 12 champion on their home field. Doesn’t get much better than that. Those are Houseion days. Hion Mike says Kyle did it because he’s playing a little rivalry gamesmanship, but Zubs take it personal like he insulted their grandmother. Zubs are soft. Got to defend them. Yeah. Gotta defend your guy, Rick. He lacks the class and character that Keelani demonstrates week after week. Gotta gota rip him. You got to rip him because you’re a Cougar fan. It’s a fall in line. Cooper, cuz he’s a punk thinking he’s bigger than the rivalry. He is the rivalry. He is the lightning rod of the rivalry at this point, isn’t he? Yeah. Because you can’t go Bronco anymore. how Bronco would say, “If you want the BYU View experience, if you want the church experience, you have to come to BYU.” Bronco’s gone. Bronco don’t talk church at all anymore. Wow. How about that? Can’t draw any assumptions from that. Wait a minute. He changed jobs. He’s at a stateowned school. Yes. And he was told to at the private institution, so he did. Yeah. Right. So, you got that. And Colani talks about church now. He never talked about going to church at Oregon State and Utah. And I’m sure what he’s got to be in some leadership position because all those BYU high-profiles tend to get that because all the buddies who give the callings want to make sure, hey, I know him. He knows me. They get to talk football with him. I don’t know what he’s got, but I would guess it’s something something. Uh yeah. And so you can’t blame it on the animosity, which was real between Bronco and Kyle. It was legit. There was going back to recruiting and what got said. Uh just a whole lot of other stuff. Yeah. Well, yeah. Yeah. Church was brought up a lot and one side didn’t like it at all and but it it was with the intent to get players. Yeah. To get an edge. Yeah. Yeah. And so and things were said back and forth and people hear stuffed. Family gets involved. They get emotional, all this stuff. We know there was interactions out on the field uh with a family member down in Provo and all that stuff that went on there. And uh you know, you but that’s all gone. Now it’s all loveydvey between the two. But yet there’s still all this animosity. Is it is it originating from Utah more than BYU now? The animosity. Yeah. Uh well, I mean, the way they play it in public for the coaches. Yeah. With I mean, Kehani just kind of plays it off as he does everything. Kehani just seems to be a master at talking and not irritating people. And Kyle irritates people clearly as we can see right here. Me, too. and over there. All right, we’re going to take a break. When we come back, Frank Dolce, the former Ute, joins us to talk about the rivalry game. That’s next. So Austin Collie at 9:00 right here on the zone.
