Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs San Francisco 49ers | NFL 2025 Season Week 6 | Buccaneers vs 49ers

Santos out now. He’ll kick it away. This fielded at the two and he’ll take this one near the 25. Call it the 26 yd line. Play fake there to Garopolo. And that is incomplete. Show off the arm strength there, but to no avail. Second down. Well, that certainly looked like something that they discussed all week in practice getting ready for this one. Take the big shot right out of the gate. At worst, you open up the defense a little bit, loosen them up, have them back on their heels. Once again, they’ll come up on the 26 yd line. Second and 10. Throwing now is Garopolo and he finds his target. It’s Maris Gumble and he’s brought down after a very nice gain. That one covers 24 yds. It’s a first down. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. When you call a wide receiver screen, no matter how many blockers you get in front of the guy that catches the ball, there’s still an aspect of the guy catching it, turning into a runner, breaking tackles, and creating his own yardage. And he just did on that play. Now the Georgia Southern man, it’s Matt Breida and he’ll get it inside the 40 to the 39. Two yds. Good enough for a first. Second and one if people want to run the football. This is where every back in the league is supposed to do exactly what we just saw there. Pick up the first down. So from the 39 now they’ll come up on a first and 10. Now Garopolo on the blue line to the right side. Caught by Sal and he’ll lose yardage here back at the 41. It’s a loss of two there bringing up Shagen down. And never good on a pass completion there to go the wrong way. Lost yardage. No, for some reason it seems to work better when you throw it downfield or you move the ball downfield running it that way, doesn’t it? But in this case, if you’re the defensive guys, you’re energized, executed well, and you caused a nice yardage play. That’s going to feel good and look great in film. A full five yd loss that time. It’s going to make second down pretty tough. Garopolo looks to throw. He finds his tight end. One thing you’re hoping for when you run drag routes, you’re able to hit a receiver in stride and you can pick up a lot of yardage after the catch. But in this situation, the defense was effective, able to stop him before he get a good head of steam going. And the box with an extra defender in the secondary now on third down. They fake the give. Now Garopolo wants to try. They’ll find good one here on the right side. The Niners passing game in sync now. They’ve got another first down. I have no crystal ball up here. I can’t truly see into the future, but if they don’t start getting some pressure on him, make him move around a little bit and do something with the receivers, you know, change up their timing, he’s going to get shredded as we’ve seen so far. Right now, they’re off to a blazing start. Yeah, and you are right. He looks way too comfortable back there in the pocket. Yeah, there shouldn’t be a pillow back there for him. As a defensive guy, they got to dump him on his backside a few times to shake things up. Yeah, they’re going to need an end drive adjustment here in this first series. Chewing up big yardage. Another nice game there. This one goes for 20. [Applause] We’re scoreless after one. The 49ers with the football here to begin the second quarter as they go to work on a first and goal. Two big plays in succession. Not sure this D knows what hit him, but now they got to get ready. It’s first and goal now. Run with Coleman on first down. And he’s going to take it in. Touchdown San Francisco. A six-yd touchdown run. And the 49ers drive right down the field and score on the opening drive. CD for them. This has just been an offensive explosion here in the second quarter. Yeah, held scoreless in the first quarter. Now they find the end zone again here in the second. Sometimes you just have to have some patience. A lot of people think it’s always an adjustment. You have to change what you’re doing. Sometimes you just have to do your game plan just a little bit better. And I think that’s part of what we’re seeing here. after the touchdown. It’s Robbie Gold now to kick it away. This is his feeling at the goal line. Yeah, a good return. He’s across the 35 yd line right around the 36. The Buccaneers in good field position here to start out. First and 10 to 12 is Winston over the middle. He finds God complete. That flow good for four. It’s second down. Brandon, to me, what’s important right here on this drive is for them to get at least two first downs. They’ve got to give their defense a chance to settle down, catch their breath a little bit after they give up a touchdown on the opening drive. Four yardds on that last completion. So that sets up second and six. On second down, Barber and he’ll be taken down, but not before he gets into enemy territory. It’s a first down on a gain of 10. at the 49 yd line. Here we go. Here we go. Strip that. Strip that. Javis Hound. First aid. This is going to be they want to play for the football. But one thing’s for sure, when you get a big receiver and you trust him downfield, you can give him opportunities to go up and get that 50/50 bump. And he is a darn good big receiver. Unfortunately, that time didn’t work out. Nice job defensively. So now second and 10 after the incompletion on first down. Winston. He’s going to go for a big play downfield and that going to be incomplete. Good effort there trying to take a shot, but it’s third down. Feels like they’re getting caught in between here because the incompletions on first and second down, but I got to worry a little bit about the clock because you prefer not to give them another shot here in the first half, but if you don’t pick up the first down, guess what? You’re likely going to have to put it down. Winston out to the left there and complete to Howard and he can only to get this to the 45 yd line. Well short of the first. Just a 5 yd pick up and it leads to fourth down. He wasn’t the primary target but I think it was almost like a a checkown situation wasn’t it? Yeah hoping he can break some tackles the big tight end but he couldn’t do it. Yeah. Get it to that big frame and hope he can scatter some bodies. Unable to get it done. And this is away. It’s a high kick and he got all of it. The offense back out there at the line ready for their next drive. Still more than a minute to go. So there is time if they want to win something here. Not only time, but they have three timeouts at their disposal as well. So that changes everything that you’re doing here. Without those timeouts, you can only work the sidelines hoping to get out of bounds. Here the middle of the field still available because you can call timeout and regroup. And San Francisco gets set to go here. Things progressing to plan so far. Their defense has been solid and they’ve got themselves a seven nothing lead after the touchdown the last time they had the ball. And this is no time to even think about, hey, are we going to milk the clock? Hey, we just got good ball control. This is the NFL. Seven to nothing leads. They don’t last very long and let’s continue to push the envelope on offense. Now San Francisco are going to call their second timeout as the stoppage will come with a little under a minute to go in this first half. four yards on that last completion. So that sets up second and six looking to throw. Garopolo and that will be incomplete. Tried to dial up the long one way out there, but it’ll be third down. And you just know when that play call came in their eyes lit up because anytime you get a chance to take a big shot downfield that’s a lot of fun and they missed an opportunity. So after the second down incompletion they’ll come up now against a third and six and yet again it’s Garopolo. He’s going to caught inside the 25. Touchdown 49ers [Music] Dante Pettis 58 yds and the Niners are able to stretch their lead and that’ll give them a twocore lead here. But I’m looking ahead. They just want to hold it for the final moments here in the second quarter. They don’t want to give up anything on the other side. No, not at all. Because if they don’t, it almost had the feel of an imposing their will score. And right now they want to make sure they keep that and carry it into the second half. Gold able to tack on the extra point and that’ll make the score 14 to zip. after the touchdown. It’s Robbie Gold now to kick it away. Fielded about a yard deep. and all that work that he stopped where he ultimately would have been had and he simply taken the knee and that’s the 25 yd line. The first down time for Winston. Oh, he’s got a man in wide open complete. Now the Bucks going to use the first of their timeouts as the clock will stop with 34 seconds to go before halftime and Tampa Bay trots out there now. Already down two touchdowns here in the first half. This becomes a pretty important drive, doesn’t it? It certainly does. And a lot of the teams script plays. We know that, right? They they have a script to start the ball game. And typically those scripts go between 12 and 24 25 plays. Down two touchdowns early. Probably not very deep into their script. I think they’ll stay with it. They abandon it just yet and try and generate some offense on this drive. Anything at least three points. Get that zero off the board. from the 32. Now here’s first and 10. Hey, watch the sling out of the game. Winston and his throw is going to be incomplete. Well, the incompletion, yes, but maybe here not the worst thing in the world. No, not on first and 10. It actually gives them a chance to regroup, relax just a little bit. They huddle up, talk it over. Then they get a chance to continue their drive. Here’s second and 10 now from about the 32. Here we go. Here we go. Jamus again for right side. Taken in by 16 yds, a first down. Seems as if the passing attack starting to heat up a little bit here in the second quarter. You can sense and you can see the momentum because now they’re reading their patterns downfield. They’re understanding the coverages and they’re finding the open holes in the defense. First time into the red zone for the Buccaneers. They come up first and 10 at the 16 on the crossing route complete. That’s Miller. The Bucks forced to use their third and final timeout as it’ll come with 15 seconds to play in the first half. [Music] Second and five after the 5 yd completion on first down you to the air again with Winston into the end zone. Touchdown Buccaneers. Chris Godwin in the final seconds of the first half as they are now on the board here in the first half. The way this one was going, you just got the sense they needed something before half. They’ve at least got something on the board now. Still trailing, but a good sign. That takes me back to our preseason tour of NFL camp. Do you remember we we talked with that one coach who said his emphasis this year was scoring in the last two minutes of a half heading into the locker room? This hits it right there. Take that momentum, take that good feeling, and take it to the locker room, regroup, and start over. They got it here. They did indeed. And a lot of football, a full half to be played. now after the touchdown here. Santos to kick this one away. This will be taken in at the one and he’ll get it up to about the 26 yd line just across the 25. Likely time for one final snap as they start out first and 10. Well indeed start on the ground to run that clock and her work these back to right around the line of scrimmage and surrender there. So we have reached halftime with a touchdown. That’s the difference on the scoreboard as we toss it an hour or so east of here to Orlando. It’s Jonathan Coachman with our EA Sports halftime report. It’s the 49ers out in front and they will get the football first as well as we are back and started in the second half and he’ll be brought down at the 23 make it the 24 yd line. Winston and the blacks take over now first and 10 at their own 24. Jameus to throw his throw incomplete. The intended target was Chris Godwin and that’ll bring up second down and that’s why he’s got to be happy to have that. There wasn’t a hole open in the zone. You have to think on early downs like that first down there. Need to be a little bit more careful. Yeah, fortunately for him got a couple more downs to play with from the 24. They’ll go again on second and 10 to Winston. He comes back with one complete and he’ll get this from the 25 to the 30 for a pick up of five. In so many ways, throwing the hitch route is actually one of the safer things an offense can do. get the ball out to the receiver as fast as possible. Hope he’s got man-to-man coverage and hope that his athleticism wins on the perimeter. The last play on the completion got him half of what they needed. Now here’s a tough third and final. There’s Winston. It’s complete and the buck tackle helps lead to a first down game. Winston to Godwood on the connection there for a Tampa Bay first. The goal for any offense versus his own defense, find the holes where guys are available and put the ball in the receiver before any defender can step up and fill it. They did it well there. Perfectly executed crossing route on first and 10. Winston can’t be left side. He’s got a man. That’s how he’s going to get this down to the 35 yd line. The catch and run pays off for 29 yds. Well, when you hit him on the move like that, he’s able to get into open field with a full head of steam. Oh boy, it’s going to be tough to get him down. There was a big window. They’re lucky they did get him down. Ball up to the 35 now as they come up on first and 10. Throw again. Winston toward the center of the field, but it’s incomplete. The intended receiver, Andre Ellington. That’ll bring up second down. Great coverage there all around. Really didn’t have any options to throw the football. Very little chance that that one was going to be completed. Every receiver was locked up. So after the incompletion on first, now second and two again. It’s Winston looking left sideline. Incomplete. He was trying to find OJ Howard, but now it’ll be third down. All right, that one fell incomplete there. But the best quarterbacks, they’ll miss on 40% of their throws somewhere in that neighborhood. Similar to a great hitter in baseball who’s going to fail seven out of 10 times and still have a great year. In this case, you want perfection, but way better that it hits the ground instead going to some color jersey. Throwston and that is incomplete. Great solid coverage there by the all pro Richard Sherman able to get a hand in. Certainly looked like they were getting ready to convert there on third down, but what an effort to get his hand on that one. Knock it away and brings up a fourth down decision. So on fourth down on comes the Buccaneer kicker Matt Gay from the left hash. This will be a 52 yd attempt. Gay’s kick is good and they’ll cut the lead back down to four now at 1410. These kickers now it’s like we take them for granted. Kicks like that used to be such a big deal and now you just expect them to make it. Yeah, you’re exactly right. And we shouldn’t take them for granted. I have a theory about it. One here. Yeah. They are more athletic now than ever before. Talking about kickers. Trace their backgrounds, trace their histories, you’ll find that they were big- time athletes all along, but their kicking was so prevalent that we made them specialist. And now those 50 plus yarders seem easy for some reason. After the main field goal, Santos back out there to kick it away. This is fielded at the goal line. And a pretty good return here. He’ll be stopped just shy of the 25 at the 24 yd line. CarPo going to bring the Niners up here. First and 10 at their own 24. to throw. It’s Garopolo to the right side. Complete to Taylor. And from the 25, they work this to the 29. A gain of four. Second and six. Just inside the 30. Throwing now is Ghai. Screen play. McKinnon. 11 yds there. First down. When you run a screen pass really well, you got to like the look of it because so many parts come together to make it work well. The offensive lineman where they’re faking people out, the back slipping out there, catching the football, then all of them going together as one unit downfield. A really nice pick up. Here’s Garppo on first and two. The Tyan Kle has it on the left side and he’ll be brought down somewhat awkwardly here. And a late flag is I think this one’s going to be a face match. Give him 28 yds on that one. And that is going to do it for this third quarter of action. This is the National Football League on EA Sports from the 32. Now here’s first and 10 now. Garopolo on the boot lane and it’s knocked away and incomplete. Good coverage that time by Shawn Bunning. How good has he been throwing the football though? And despite that incompletion, that’s just the third time he’s been off target this entire game. And Brandon, I’ve been on the other side of this equation trying to defend a guy who’s been this hot and it trips away your confidence. And when you’re not confident when you’re trying to defend, it makes you slower to the football and it leads to more comp. Second down and 10th. Knocked down. and leaves the quarterback’s hand and it’s incomplete. And now offensively, it’s third and 10. And I’m just thinking to myself, actors always say, “What’s my motivation before a big scene?” Right now, the play callers thinking, “What have I done before that’s worked well that I can go to right now?” Yeah, cuz they were pretty successful in the first half scoring points. Haven’t done anything so far here in the second half. Go off and roll. He’s going to go for it. And that’ll be incomplete. They took their shot all right, but it comes up empty. And it’s fourth down. I’m going to need some help with this one. How did he miss him? Wide open in the end zone. He’s not hurried. He’s not hit. And somehow incomplete. What happened? During film study, that’s one where he’s just going to shake his head, not be able to believe it. Six points go by the wayside on that one. From a defensive perspective though, I think maybe they’re saying, “Hey, we did what we needed to do. Kept this a one-sore game.” Yeah, without a doubt. because they were able to bleed some time off the clock, right? Put themselves in a good position, but it’s not out of reach yet. Okay. Being able to hold him to a field goal means that they do have a chance to come back and win this game. Now it’s Gold after splitting the uprights to kick this one away. fielded about a yard deep and he’ll take it out past the 25 to the 26 yd line. The Tampa offense ready to get their drive started and fortunate to get points on the board last time. They had to hit a really long field goal to do so. The kickers in today’s game are so good and so skilled at different distances that we almost have to take them for granted and you can’t do that. That’s a long field goal that they got three points out of. They’ve got to feel good about that and they want to make sure they love him because he’s helped them out. Yeah. Now we’ll see if that offense can put six on the board here. We’ll see. Able to get seven on that first down pass play. Second and three. Here’s Winston. Second complete. How they get him down before he takes it across the 40 yd line. It’s a first down and a gain of 10. That was a wild run. not just with dexterity, but with intelligence. Found the hole in the zone, made sure the quarterback saw him, and was able to make the sure catch and put the down marker back to one. First down, Winston. And that’s complete. It’s Allington. It’s easy. It’s coming again. That first down completion only netted him three. Second and seven. Winston leads you with Barber on the draw and he’s got this one across midfield into 49er territory. A gain of three last play. This time they double it and pick up six. Frustrating for a defense, energizing for an offense. finding a way to create that type of yardage in your running game. That’ll make the guys carrying the ball very, very happy. The Bucks on third down, just one for three thus far. They’re up against a third and one situation. Back to throw. It’s pulled in by Allington, but he will have first down yardage as he’s brought down at the 41. Seven yds there. Good enough to move the sticks. First down now, but that clock rolling. He’ll look to throw. He got position on him and he pulls it in. A really good pick up for 28 yds. Pardon me. This is one of the best routes anyone can have in their offensive playbook. Tough to defend because you think it’s a go route and then he breaks it back on the comeback. There’s one other thing you need as well. A well trained ball. Exactly right. You got a guy who has some precision in throwing the football because of the timing of the route. From the red zone now, Winston and that’ll be knocked away. It’s incomplete. The tight end Cameron Great was the target, but it’ll be second down. This entire defensive unit, Charles, they’ve really put in a good shift tonight, so to speak. I like how you phrase that. This has been a good shift. They punched the clock the entire evening. Ought to have shirts that have their names on them in the front. A lot of these are blue collar workers who are getting it done. They try to throw in second down, but this one is incomplete. Big OJ Howard, his intended target, but now it’s third down. So he’s unable to complete it there and just not the game that you would expect from him. He’s been off the mark really start to finish. Yeah, it makes you wonder what exactly is going on. Is he a little bit dinged up here or is it just off just by a bit? Maybe he can get it back in this situation. He’ll need to. He’s back to throw and it’s caught. It’s a touchdown. So they rally here in the final minute and they’re an extra point away from tying this game. And while it appears the heavy lifting was accomplished by scoring the touchdown, they’re still down one. That extra point is not a gimme. It took them an extra look, but they found out it is a touchdown indeed. The official says this one counts. A very important extra point there. Up and good. And partner, we’ve got a tie game here in the fourth. Heat. Heat. 1717 the score. All even to this point as it kicks away. was fielded at the two and he’s up across the 25 and down at the 28 yd line. The 49er offense set to get this drive underway. They’ve got work to do, but they do still have a bit of time here. And they’ve got to feel comfortable with that. But they have all their play sequences called. If they get out of bounds, that allows them to huddle and call another play. What they don’t is hurry up to the line of scrimmage and either spike it and stop the clock or continue to move it downfield in order to try and get in range and win this game. See if they can do just that. Garopolo now 11 of 16 through the air. It’s first and 10. Back to throw. Garop toward the left sideline but it’s incomplete. He was looking for Trent Taylor there, but it’s going to be second down. Couple extra defensive backs out there in the dime. And because of that, really not many places to throw the football and they offend it. And typically, what would you want to do against that dime? You want to run the ball, but you can’t do it in this situation. Not nearly enough time on the clock. You have to really navigate against a tough defense presented against you. Throw once more on second until Garopolo and his throw is going to be incomplete. the intended receiver Maris Goodwin. Third down here. Well, these corners, I tell you, they’ve done excellent work all game long. They remind me of guys in the past who just said, “Hey, throw it out here 100 times.” Nothing good is going to happen. If you throw it in the wrong place, I’ll take it the other way. Big play coming up. Here’s third and 10. I would expect to see some pressure here. The pressure drops off as they look left to throw. Open man is pennis. It’s complete and he’s going to be out of bounds right at midfield. a gain of 10 and a 49er first down. Tell you what, he’s been able to put the ball in some tight spots all game long. That throw no different. Yeah, a lot of people would call it a gutsy type of a throw. I think he looks at it as I can do it. So, it’s not that big of a deal to me. I’m going to keep firing from midfield. Here’s Garopolo over the middle to KD complete. And he gets this one inside the 15 just a yard or two shy of the 10. The 49ers now going to use the first of their timeouts as they get it with 26 seconds to go in the football game. How about this for field position after the big play inside the 15 now as they come up on first and 10. Garopolo going to hand this one to Coleman and he is swallowed up right at the line of scrimmage. Now, San Francisco going to call their second timeout as they stop him with 22 ticks to go in the fourth. So, after the run for no gain, here’s second and 10. Coleman and he’ll fight his way down inside the 10 to the 9 yd line. It’s a gain of about three, but it’s going to leave him with third and still seven yds to go. So, here we go. Maybe the biggest kick of the game forthcoming. And a timeout comes in. The whistles blow with 3 seconds remaining. So now it’ll all come down to Robbie Gold with 3 seconds to go. This is the win. And this is gone. Robbie Gold knocks it through in a pressure spot. And with that, they take the lead here 20-7. So the victory here for San Francisco. And you look back over the score sheet. Interesting. A very clean game. No turnovers by either side. an absolute rarity when we watch games now because defenses have put such an emphasis on taking the ball away. Well, what we saw here was offense is spending their time saying, “Look, you know, they’re coming for it. Ball security is paramount.” So, they worked on that not just the week of practice, but I’m sure all during training camp. Make sure when you have it, tuck it away because danger lurks everywhere you
