Aaron Glenn Press Conference (10/15) | New York Jets
Good morning. Morning. Uh before we get started, um man, thoughts and prayers to to Nick and um and his family, man, it’s just when you hear about things like that and to a person like him, um he’s a true jet um through and through. So um that’s hard to hear. It’s hard to hear. So, thoughts and prayers to his family. Uh, when it comes to the injuries, we have four guys that has basically the same designation. Uh, which is, uh, Garrett, uh, Stiggers, uh, Cam Jones, and Josh Reynolds. All those guys will be out today, right? And there we see how those guys progress during the week. Uh, the only guy that actually will be practicing today that was on the injury report was um, is Michael Carter. He’s still in protocol, right? But he still has his practice today. So, but he has to go through the uh, protocol. Um, when it comes to this week and this, uh, this team, um, it’s an emerging team. Uh, they’ve won back-to-back games. I think the last time they’ve won back-to-back games was last year, I think mid-season, cuz I know they started 1 and seven. And, um, now they won back-to-back games. So, I think the coach is uh doing everything he can to stir the ship uh, the right way. Um, I like him as a coach. I competed against him when he was uh, he was in Tampa. Um, he does a good job with those guys when it comes to their players. obviously the quarterback um number one pick. Um I think he’s doing a good job and I think it it it helped him to be able to sit back and be able to watch and obviously you see that he’s doing a really good job. They found someone when it comes to their running game. This this uh this this running back with Rico. Um he’s doing a really good job for him man to go out and rush for 200 yards the week before and 180 this week. Um you know it’s big. So we know that we have to do something about stopping him. And obviously T-Mac, the receiver that uh that Bryce has now, um that’s his that’s his go-to guy. And just by the target, you see that when it comes to the defense, it all starts with their two guys, the three technique Brown and the corner horn, you know, and um two critical positions that have two top-notch players. So, this is going to be a test for us. We know that. Um but like I say, every week, man, our guys are excited to go out and have a good walk through. Uh we’re excited to go out having a good practice. Um and we’re looking forward to this week. So, we know that we have to get ready to have a really good week to really continue to improve on those things that we showed um last week. And when I say that is making sure we get takeaways um no turnovers and really limit the uh limit the penalties. So, we did a good job that last week and want to continue to build on that. So, any questions? So, does Garrett have a shot or something? You said you were I say we see how he’s progressing during the week. So, that means he’s got a shot. We see how he progresses during the week. Uh the MRI that didn’t show anything. We see how he progresses during the week. Josh, was the injury Josh? Josh had with his hip, right? Yeah, he had a hip injury. Um again, out today said he progresses during the week. You mentioned on the call the other day that Justin took a step backward. Did you express that to him? And what’s the conversation like? I don’t think that’s something I had I need to express even though we did talk about it. Um he’s a um he’s very aware. He’s very aware. So um the thing that I do like about it, man, he flushed that and he’s on to this a week just like all of us are. Just say just follow up on that. What have you seen from him this week since you guys got back? Well, we just started walk through today. So I mean obviously we go out and practice today and I’m sure there’ll be nothing different from the way he operates. um he has a routine that he goes by and that’s been his routine, you know, throughout the year and um and I don’t see that changing at all. What will you look for from him this week in terms of consistency for the most part and and and the and the ability to continue to improve. Um and I’ve said that to him and and he said that to you guys and that’s that’s a lot of our guys, you know, on this team. It’s every week we’re trying to improve. we know exactly where we’re at and um and we’re not accepting being 0 and6 at all, you know. So, uh we know from myself as a coach, from the players um to go out there and play, we all have to improve and that’s a part of what we’re um what we’re doing. I remember you said in the offseason with Justin, we’re going to give him a chance to play quarterback. Yeah. And I’m wondering, do you It just seems like he’s like strictly in the pocket now. like his running ability hasn’t been as evident the last couple of games and it almost seems like he’s being restricted to to the pocket. Do you think maybe you’ve gone too far one way to try to make him play quote unquote quarterback? Well, away some of the things he does best. Yeah, every um every game presents different challenges and when you game plan, you try to figure out what are the best things we can do for not just Justin, but for our team to um to have success and there are some games where man, the the the quarterback run game is going to be a huge part of it. There’s other games where we don’t think it’s going to be a big part of because of the way that they operate. And when you look at what they were doing, they were sending two from the side of a running back, which really takes the running back away and the quarterback away. So they did a good job of that and we had some of them called. Um just the way that they pressured I mean allowed you mo made him handle hand the ball off for the most part. So um and again that’s how every game’s going to be and we just have to continue to game plan and see how do we get each guy on our team especially our skilled guys uh getting them opportunity to be successful. Ear you got to figure with the copycat league that Carolina’s going to be coming and trying to do the same things Denver did. Right. Yeah. How do you counteract that? Well, that’s why we go through and game plan to figure out, so how do we, you know, react to those situations? And um and every week it’s it’s it’s a chess game and we try to figure out, okay, if guys did this, like what’s our counter now? And it’s not like I’m going to say those things now, but that but we have some counters um on teams that try to copycat that. I think you said after the game you’d like to see him give guys a chance some do you think he maybe needs to take a few more chances in terms of it’s not wide open let’s try a 50/50 ball let’s try to give Garrett a chance yeah here’s here’s what I do know is and you’re right you know and I’ve said that and and and I still believe that and I think that’s for any quarterback especially when you have man coverage to give a guy a chance but I do know if something bad happens you guys going to be bitching about that about him you know so the thing is he’s just got to go out and and play quarterback and do the best that he can and but I don’t get I don’t come off that at all. You know, when you’re in man coverage, I mean, you got to give a guys a chance to go catch the ball. What did you like most about the rush defense last week? And then also Carolina, how are they challenging teams schematically? Obviously, the running back playing, but schematically, where they going? Well, they do a like a really good job schematically on these these Hawk returns or or slice blocks with the tight ends. And the tight end do a really good job of really um aiming at the thigh board of the defensive end to make sure the running back has a two-way go in that aspect. Um and this running back is running hard. He’s running downhill. Um man, it’s hard to bring this this guy down. And you see that, you know, and it seemed like he had he had something against Dallas when he played against them. U when it comes to the run defense against uh Denver, I mean, that was one of the top run teams in the league. I think they were in the top five somewhere. So, if you can get a chance to um to really styy, you know, an offense like that, and again, I know coach Peyton and I know what he believes in when it comes to the run game. When you can sty a run game like that, um it really builds the confidence within that front and within us as a coaching staff on our guys who’s going through each week and being to do that. More, you’ve been probably a part of some players only meetings over your over time when you pads on so to speak. Um obviously the you know the defense got together before you went to London. Um, how do how do you feel like that manifested itself? Obviously, you know, the results were very good. Yeah. Well, I I thought I um I addressed that that it was just a couple of defensive guys just talking about, you know, how they want to operate and um and the accountability within themselves of, you know, making sure that that, you know, they do things above board as far as how they want to play. Um, listen, these guys, they’re grown men and and they know exactly what they have to do to get better. um and they went out there and and they performed. The thing right now is man, we have to do that consistently and they understand that and we’ve talked about that. Um and we could do that as a defense, continue to play special teams like we are and then continue to improve on offense or improve on offense, we’ll be just fine. And plus do those things that I talked about before with penalties, takeaways, and turnovers. Um that’s part of our brand that we have to make sure that we do like well each week. Just as a quick follow I wanted to ask you about Brownley. He seemed to bring a lot of energy at the end of the day. Can you speak to what you what you saw? Yes. He um he fits exactly like who we are as a defense. He’s tough- minded. Um he has really good coverage ability. Um he doesn’t mind sticking his nose in there when it comes to the run game. Um and he had a really good game for us. So, you know, now we’re trying to see like how does he improve and how does he continue to catch on to our defense and being able to put him in different situations to see if we could take advantage of who he is? A receiver. Do you have Lazar back? Lazar’s back. Lazar back. And how do you feel like Aarian’s done? He’s had a more extended role last three games. How do you feel like he’s done? As a receiver, um, man, he’s done a really good job. Uh, as you could see that, man, he could take the top off. um in these some of the games there were some times that you know we got to like give him a chance on some of them D balls one-on-one. Here’s what’s been more impressive with him is how he’s done on special teams also. So he’s been a big part of what we’ve doing uh when it comes to punt team and for our punter to net 49 yards. A lot of that was because of what he’s doing and a lot of those guys, you know. So um it’s not just the receiving part that he’s excelling in and doing better at, but it’s also on special teams which we need him to be to do that. Did you Can I just go ahead? You said before the season you were pretty emphatic about not wanting to trade Gree Hall and now all of a sudden we’re getting closer to the deadlines. Rumors are running rampant again. What’s your position now? They’re rumors still feel the same way. Thanks everybody.

He’s awful
I believe in AG. he's made mistakes, but you have to give him room to breathe. let's reassess at the end of the year before we start calling for his head after 6 games.
I was a huge fan of the AG hire BUT NOW im not so sure , he looks lost during games , bad decisions etc… Don't wanna hear about 1st year head coach , How's Liam Coen doing?? Also does he thing arrogance is cool?? He gets asked legitimate questions by the reporters and just repeats a one sentence answer when he doesn't like the question, its even 1 word sometimes, thin skin much??? SMH
NY JETS 2029 Super Bowl Winners. LFG !! Dream Big Baby!!
Picking up the blitz for time (so there’s oline and Qb accountability)
#FireAaronGlenn
Please stop talking about a good practice man.. fuck.
Bro every team is a test for you. You’d be underdogs vs a high school team
And we all thought Robert Saleh was too full of himself
Great presser Coach Glenn
“Every week is a chess game” bro you suck at chess
0-7 incoming!!!!!
Fire Glenn!!!
Love how AG doesn’t give any ground to dumb questions obviously trying to get a headline out of him. The only thing they have is “he is mean to us”
does he have a beef with Costello or something ?….i just get that feeling everytime he asks a question….idk about AG his seat is cookin already
Why is he always fighting with the media? I know there is gamesmanship but a question about the MRI for Garrett is not a bad question and stating that the Media will be "b-tching" about something if it didn't work out? Come on coach. I hope the D can carry over what they did in the last game especially with Brownlee and Jermaine. As for the offense, it has to look like an NFL team with the QB not holding onto the ball and Egstrand using his running strength.
Win out… Cmon ❤
The commemts about AG's way with the media is ridiculous… I know you seen Belichick's media conferences.
Who's "Nick" and what the hell happened to him? Is he talking about Mangold?
C'mon Jets …. just get a freakin WIN
Glenn unslyly comparing himself to the tough stretch the Carolina coach went through to pad himself AGAIN tells you how delicate Glenn's ego is. All 'tell' no 'show' … so far.
This guy sucks as a coach and a coordinator lol
Give him 1 quarter, then make a change if not getting the job done. Stop being so nice and kick some butt, these guys are getting paid to win. C'mon man stop with the chances.
“We’ll see how he progresses during the week”
I think we need a new Coach bc Aron Glenn is not the right guy for the Jets
Play Brady cook to see if you have something there. No reason to ever start fields.
They spent years shitting on Dan Campbell now crickets, I’ll be collecting my receipts for all you AG naysayers
AG is not playing with these reporters. I like it! Let him build.
