5 Interesting Orlando Magic Storylines — Through October 14

Here are five interesting Orlando Magic on the court storylines so far through October 14th. Number one, Jace Richardson’s three-point shooting. The 6’1 rookie guard has made seven of his 10 three-point attempts through the Magic’s first three preseason games. That 70% mark ranks number one among the 142 players this preseason who have attempted at least 10 shots from beyond the ark. Only seven players are shooting 60% or better with 10 plus attempts. Number two, pace of play. Through three games, the Magic are averaging 104 possessions. Last year, they averaged a league low 96.5 possessions. By playing faster, they’re getting up more shots, averaging 91.3 per game compared to 85.8 last year. Head coach Jamal Mosley has repeatedly said throughout training camp that his team needs to convert more frequently after getting stops and forcing live ball turnovers. Number three, the Magic are the best rebounding team in the preseason. Even though rebounding is not the flashiest component of the game, it’s without a doubt one of the most important. The Magic are making a concerted effort to crash the glass on the offensive end, and they continue to be quick to the ball after getting stops on the defensive side. So far, the Magic are averaging a league best 57.3 rebounds overall and 21.3 offensive rebounds, which also ranks number one. Number four, Fron’s free throw rate. Of all the things Fran Vagner has steadily gotten better at in his career, absorbing contact on his drives might top that list. Last year, he averaged a career best 5.2 free throw attempts per contest. At FIA Euro Basket 2025 over the summer, he averaged 7.9 foul shots. And most recently, he went a perfect 10 of 10 from the stripe in just 16 minutes of action against the Miami Heat in a preeason game at Kia Center on October 12th. And number five, opponents are struggling to get up threes again. Last year, the Magic were the best at forcing opponents off the three-point line. Their defensive pressure and tenacity prevented opponents from having much space to get up clean looks from the perimeter. We are already seeing that same thing play out this year. Opponents are averaging a league low 32 three-point attempts against the Magic so far in the preseason. Two weaker areas in the preseason for the Magic to improve in are turnovers and fouling. They’re averaging 19.7 turnovers and 25.3 fouls. So, that will wrap up this video. If you like this kind of content, please subscribe.
