Let’s not pick a rookie QB again for a while. If we take him then Aaron Glenn is gonna get fired and the poor kid is gonna have to learn 3 different NFL offenses in 2 season. We need stability and then we can maybe draft a QB. Throwing a 20 yo in this team in this market hasn’t worked in decades.
Caleb Downs falling to 12 seems odd
Oh God I hope not. Ty Simpson couldn’t beat out Jalen Milroe who isnt good enough to start in the NFL. He’s had a couple rough games this year. He has a good arm but no rushing upside. He could be a good pick and will probably go in the first but he isn’t incredibly efficient and not producing at a crazy rate. I think he’ll need some development and he could be in the Mac Jones bucket of QBs although he’s a bit more mobile and athletic. I think he’ll need some development and I’m not sure we’re in a place to do that.
If I was the GM and we get the 1st overall pick I’m trading back in the first and getting whatever QB falls. Fernando Mendoza could end up being just as good as Simpson, same with Dante Moore. Lanorris Sellers is a physical freak dual threat who has been productive but needs a bit of development on his passing. I also really like Taylen Green who is popping up in a few mocks. Huge running QB, has broken off some long runs, big arm, the passing production has been there (more 300 yard passing games than Simpson) and 504 rushing yards on the season at 7.1 per carry. Apparently 6-6 and 235, so more of a Josh Allen or Cam Newton than a Lamar Jackson type but he does have wheels.
If we traded down in the 1st and took someone solid to fill a need and then took Taylen Green in the 2nd that could be an absolutely ridiculous draft (and some mocks have Green going in the 2nd or later)
If Ty Simpson was smart he would go back to college. QBs with under 20 games started in college tend to not do well in the NFL.
Ty Simpson struggle with the Jets, and will then land in Seattle or Minnesota a few years later and do just fine.

Doesn’t matter. I have zero faith in the drafting and developing of players here. If the guy isn’t “ready” to go day 1, the Jets will be looking for a new coach and QB in 3-4 years.

Please no! Not an Alabama QB! Ohio State, USC, and Alabama are three schools that almost never seem to put out good QBs.
I have zero confidence that the Jets will end up with the first overall pick. I am skeptical that the Jets trade any players at the trade deadline and Glenn will do everything he can to win games all year. Meanwhile, I see teams like NO, Cleveland, Tenn and Miami will embrace the tank by trading good players and benching veterans down the stretch to assure themselves of getting a better draft pick. I’ve seen this happen too many times.
If no QB then Bain and Carnell Tate as a Jets fan
Just saw one that has us taking Mendoza from IU with Simpson going later in the 1st round. Second QB was the kid from Oregon.
