Milton Williams on settling into the defense and reuniting with AJ Brown | Jones & Keefe
Oh, it certainly is. Time for grabbag here on Jones and Keith. Grab bag is brought to you by Awaken 180 weight loss. Before we dive into some of the Grabag items, though, Jones, it is a Patriots Friday and we’re joined every other Patriots Friday by Milton the Milkman Williams. He joins us here on Jones and Keef. He’s brought to you by Shaws and Star Market. You can look for the new lower prices every day tags throughout the store and save on the items that you buy most. Mil Williams, how you doing this week? What’s going on, boss? Uh, we’re doing great. Uh, maybe not as good as you guys on Sunday night. It was a statement win. It was a nationally televised audience in Buffalo. Uh, I don’t know, looking back on that even almost a week later. How’d it feel to get that victory under your belt in front of the whole country watching? No, it felt good. Felt good. Uh, we had a great week of preparation. Um, and we went out there, we just executed. we played played the way we wanted to play and you know executed uh for the most part in all phases. Um so we’re going to try to uh get ready to do that this week as well. You know I heard an interview with Christian Barmore where he was discussing how great it is to be able to play next to you. You come from a great offensive or I’m sorry defensive line in Philadelphia. What’s it been like so far this year uh playing alongside Christian Barmore? Man, it’s been great. It’s been great. Um, I feel like I say the same thing every time you ask me. But, uh, no, man. It’s just just having another guy right there to know, um, that teams can’t just key on you, you know, cuz if they do, I mean, then we got another, uh, ultra talented guy that can go make something happen if he one-on-one and vice versa. So, you know, we just we just like being in those scenarios and being able to uh play with each other, you know, control the line of scrimmage, control the middle, um and just work off each other and and we feed off each other energy and, you know, we’re going to help each other make plays as the season go. How much pride do you guys take in stopping the uh opposing team’s running backs because one of the stats that has jumped out through the first five weeks, no individual running back has had over 50 yards in a game against you guys, which I I assume you got to take great pride in. Oh yeah. And I didn’t even know that was a thing that people tracked, but you know, we always we always uh emphasize, you know, of course we we want to go get quarterbacks. We want to make plays, but uh in order to get to that, we got to be good on first, second down, um you know, stopping the run and get them get them in passing situations where they where they have to drop back and and then we can go try to take over the game that way. But no, it’s it’s all about stopping the run first and then, you know, taking advantage of those opportunities in the pass game when you get them. I was looking at some of your comments after the Buffalo game. We asked you in the off season, you know, to highlight the favorite sack of your career. It was Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Now you got Josh Allen uh last week. Um I guess independent of just the schedule, Rattler’s the next quarterback on the schedule, so I imagine he’d be on your list. Is there another QB you have circled? I know you’re you’re kind of keeping track of that. Is there another QB you have circled? The crazy part is I don’t really have no quarterback circled, but every quarterback I play circle, if that makes sense, you know. Sure. Like I’m trying to get everybody that I I go against. So, whoever on the schedule, they on the list and I’m I’m definitely trying to get them. Uh I’m not not sure if you watched your former team last night uh in their game against the Giants. And I’m also not sure how many times there’s been four straight tush push plays, which uh I know not everybody loves, but did you get a chance to watch any of the uh the Eagles last night? Yeah, I watched I watched a little uh a little bit of it, man. Uh I I did see the Chris push uh when they ran it a couple times in a row. I was like, man, that’s I uh that’s tough to stop. You know, they got they got big Dexter Lawrence right in the middle. I feel like they stopped it. The Giants did a good job of, you know, holding them probably twice, but I mean, after that, it’s like it’s tough sledding after that, man. There’s really ain’t too much you really can do. No. Well, you said you were watching. What do you think’s looking from afar? What do you think’s wrong with that offense and that team? They’ve dropped two in a row. Um, you know, I I I really can’t just say they just look they just look out of sync to me. uh just being there and watching them, you know, watching the year like how what we had last year. Uh I just feel like they out of sync and that they missing some guys. They missing some guys on the line on both sides of the ball uh secondary and it’s just they just they just out of sync right now. So, you know, I’m not I’m not really I know y’all asking me questions about them. I’m not really focused on them as much as I am the Patriots. So, um, I did take a glance at the game, man. Those are, uh, what I what I took from it. One last one on the Eagles. Not trying to dwell on it, but we we talk about AJ Brown a lot on this, uh, show. Uh, big fan of AJ Brown, great player. I’m curious, what was he like as a as a teammate? Great teammate, great guy. Um, he want to win. He want to win and he want to impact winning and he want to be great. Um, just like all of us. But um I feel like he didn’t he didn’t put a lot of um a lot put up a lot of numbers and a lot of you know good film uh for players and other people to watch just just to see the type of player that he has been. So uh no he he was a great teammate and one of the best receivers that’s ever been on my team. Uh before we let you go, Milton, uh and I know the NFL is different than baseball where you’re in town for a couple of days or the NBA or NHL where you may get an off day when you’re in another town, but it’s New Orleans and then Nashville the next couple of weeks. Do Do you have a favorite stop, a favorite city to go visit in the NFL? Uh not really. I mean, I’ve done been to New Orleans a couple times, so it ain’t even nothing to go down there no more. Like I went to school in Louisiana, so New Orleans is a cool I mean the food good down there, so that’s cool. But um the city in particular, not really. I just be I didn’t went to so many places, man. I don’t even like you know what I’m saying? I didn’t been everywhere pretty much in the US, you know, uh playing football and it took me to a lot of places. So um I I’ll probably just have to say just going back to Texas, just being home. uh in my career uh I’ve been playing with a lot of teams up north a long way from from Texas. So uh whenever I go back to Texas and we uh play the Cowboys or uh the Texans or somebody in Texas just to get back get back down to uh where I came from, it always feel good. You got anything queued up for the plane ride? You got any TV shows or movies you’re going to watch? Uh nah. This plane ride is going to be long. I’m probably going to get a nap first and then if I wake up probably listen to some music. Uh play some Candy Crush, something something like that. Nice. No Angry Birds. No. Okay. Okay. You move past that. That’s okay. How is it easy for you to fall asleep on a plane? That’s not easy for everybody. Is it easy for you to fall asleep? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I’ll be I put my music in. I got my little uh R&B playlist. Oh, nice. What’s on that? What’s on that? And I’m Oh, man. a lot of a lot of old school uh uh Cheddy Pendigrass, Eley Brothers, uh just a lot of the stuff I grew grew up with with my mom, you know, wake up on Saturday, it’s time to clean up and she got she got her her jams going. So, uh just listening to that kind of relax me, take me back a little bit. Uh just old school R&B and shoot, about three songs in, I’m sleep. Okay, nice. Well, hey, best of luck with the Candy Crush. Best of luck with the uh the playlist and the nap. Get Rattler, too. Yeah, add Rattler to the list and we’ll talk to you in a couple of weeks. Thanks so much. 100%. Appreciate y’all. All right. All right. Milton the milkman Williams joining us here on a Patriots Friday. Candy Crush. Candy Crush. Pretty good. Thank you, Milton. I can.
