The NBA is already REGRETTING letting this happen…

The NBA is already regretting letting this happen after Dylan Harper’s masterful performance in his preseason debut. Fans across the league and Spurs fans alike are wondering how the Spurs managed to pull it off again. But it’s not just Dylan Harper and his connection with Victor Webbbyama. There was one other Dominican guy and his name was has been shining throughout the entire preseason. But we also have to dive into a very interesting element that’ll make the Spurs even harder to play against and it doesn’t come from a player on the court. We’re getting into all that coming up on this episode of Spurs Digest. But we got to start with something that is not a player on the court, like I said, and it’s the fans. Because holy crap, wasn’t the crowd amazing? And you know, I know Keenan talked about, you know, the crowd, the game, and all this stuff in the in the postgame review, but I want to revisit this, right? Because this is not just reviewing what happened in the game. This is reviewing something that will have a huge impact on the Spurs for years and maybe decades to come, right? The Spurs Jackals were there and they were loud. Are we sure last night was a preseason game? They said the energy sure felt different in the layer. Can’t wait for more amazing moments like this throughout the season. And you have Jazz fans. Walter Kesler’s number one fan on Twitter. Got to give it to the Spurs crowd. Spurs culture for a preseason game. The Spurs crowd has been pretty loud. I think the Jackals are doing their job. Excited to see how this plays out throughout the season. And you know, even the Jazz commentators were mentioning the Spurs crowd and just how loud and good they were sounding. And it honestly was I don’t want to say a different feeling cuz Spurs crowds like as we know have always been so so so good. But this does add a whole other element to it, right? And again, you’re watching them, you’re looking at them, the intensity throughout the whole game. It reminds you of watching some some, you know, football or soccer, you know, whatever you want to call it. We got lots of people from around the world that watch this channel, so I’m going to use both words. But this is something that you see a lot in European crowds. I mean, have you guys watched any of these recent Euro League like warm-up clips where the crowds, the whole crowds are in unison chanting at the other team or chanting for their team? The NBA just hasn’t really seen that yet. And this is the start of it, right? Like, this could very well be the start of something huge for the rest of the NBA, let alone the San Antonio Spurs that Victor Webyama has petitioned for and has started with the Spurs Jackals. It’s going to make it terrifying to play against this team. It’s going to be the best homec court advantage in the NBA if the Spurs Jackals continue to do what they did even for that preseason game and the rest of us fans will catch on, right? You’re not going to be able to go to a Spurs game and not feel immersed in the game because they’re they’re not going to let you just sit idly by almost, right? You’re going to feel that intensity. I felt it just watching partly because these boys here were putting on a show, but also because that intensity from the crowd was unbelievable. So, shout out to the Spurs Jackals. is changing the game when it comes to the Spurs. But changing the game is something that we’ve really been able to witness recently over the last few years with Victor Wanyama, but it’s been these other pickups too that have just had me questioning like how did the Spurs get away with getting these guys, you know? And one guy I got to shout out before we get into Dylan Harper is David Jones Garcia. because no matter how much love he’s been getting, I feel like it’s not enough cuz yes, he’s on a two-way contract. But David Jones Garcia is seriously making a case to get some regular season run here. David Jones Garcia last night 254 and a steel. And look, he is a fan favorite for good reason. He’s incredibly fun to watch. He has a bit of everything in his game as summarized here by this tweet from AGLR23. If you want dribbling, look at Kyrie. You want shooting, look at Curry. You want finishing, look at Giannis. If you want mid-range, look at CP3. If you want defense, look at Kawhai. If you want all of that, look at David Jones Garcia. And I can’t help but agree. And again, David Jones Garcia, like I don’t know how much time he’ll actually get in the regular season because this Spurs roster is kind of deep, right? Like we have a lot of really good players. But as you can see, everyone is singing the praises that David Jones Garcia 20 points in 17 minutes. Again, and this is not to talk about, oh, look at everything he did last night, but it’s to look at what he could do for the Spurs moving forward, because his skill set, like the fact that he was quite intense and making some good defensive plays as well, knocking down that three when it mattered, like David Jones Garcia throughout the whole preseason and all summer league has been very impressive, right? And and during summer league, I was like, I don’t know, will he will that game really translate to NBA opponents? And the answer clearly right now is yes. I’m not saying it’s going to translate to 15 20 minutes a night in the NBA every single night putting up 10 12 points a game, but I can see the path where it could. And again, developing with the Austin Spurs is never a bad thing. But having this guy in your back pocket, this is the kind of guy you have on a two-way deal like that again just shows how good the Spurs have been at creating this roster, making these moves, draft picks, trades for De’Aran Fox, for Kelly Olen, adding Luke Cornet in free agency. This team has become so deep that a talent like David Jones Garcia who is a fan favorite is on a two-way deal and he has worked his butt off to get to where he is. And I am so excited to see what he can do this season because I think it would be an unbelievable story to see him take the leap and eventually play some games for the Spurs. He said he made a promise to his father that he would always he would play a game in the NBA and he did keep the promise playing in the preseason right now. So that’s such a heartwarming story as well. Shout out to David Jones Garcia. I know we got guards who are not playing right now like Fox, like Castle, and Harper’s on a minutes restriction, but I think Jones Garcia could really do something for the Spur. So, shout out to him. I really enjoy this. But, you know, we got to talk about the man of the hour here. And look, I know we we could run the highlights from last night all night long, but I’m starting to see the prevailing opinion of even fans from other teams just being like, how how did they how did this happen again? How did the Spurs get another guy who could very well have been a number one pick in so many drafts? By the way, you want this sweater, check out our link in the description. from Die Hard Addicts. Like seriously, one of the best sweaters I’ve ever gotten. 100% cotton, made in Texas. If you guys have been watching the videos a lot, you know that. But I absolutely love all the stuff we got from Die Hard Addicts. But let’s just take a look at some of the stuff we’ve been seeing. Uh Mr. Ask saying, “Dylan Harper is the second priority behind Vic immediately. It doesn’t have to be rush, but it has to be known. Didn’t need a preseason game to tell me that, but it helps.” I mean, like, that’s the thing, right? Dylan Harper has that it factor, and I’m not going to break down his stats from the game, cuz again, that’s not what this video is about. It’s about what he did and how it looks for the Spurs moving forward and that impact. Again, he’s just he’s got a swag about him. Even that there was a step back like short corner lefty jump. Well, obviously it’s a lefty jumper, but a short corner step back jumper that he made. It’s not in the highlight clips here, but everything he did, he was scoring in various ways. He was shooting. He was driving to the net. He was even throwing lobs to WBY. He actually said he’s like, I got to throw it higher next time. But nine points, three assists, four for six, plus 20. The impact was absolutely there. NBA University who’s out there tweeting a lot about different NBA players, especially young ones. Dylan Harper looks like he belongs. I’ve seen enough. Dylan Harper, rookie of the year already. And this person here actually tweeted the exact same thing last year about Stfan Castle. Coincidence? Probably, but still, it’s really entertaining. And Point made basketball. Another great follow. Dylan Harper really does shine on ball though. And that is one of the things that, yeah, we were hoping to see. We knew he could get there and he he did a lot at Ruckers, but would it translate to the NBA level? Already it has. Look at how many defenders collapse onto him after he gets into the paint and he has the vision and playmaking to punish teams for rotating onto him because the question was again with Dylan Harper. We knew the talent was there. He does not have the most explosive first step of everyone there in that draft. But the way he can craft his drives to get to the rim and still playmake out of them and even like again playmaking from half court this kind of thing. He sees the game. Hard not to see Wemb. He stands head and shoulders above everyone. But this little back door cut there I think is so nasty. be so perfect. Even this here, look at how many defenders turn towards Dylan Harper and he is going to end up making them pay if he can’t finish at the rim with a little drop pass to Cornet there. A swing out to the corner. It’s the impact he has on the team in just that short amount of time. And it has people wondering like again, how did the Spurs get away with this? I think we’re going to be asking that question for so many years. People are calling him. Look, the nickname for Wem and Cornet has already been called French vanilla and I absolutely love it. I’ve seen people call this the onetwo punch and I am cool with that too. We got so many nicknames. Area 51, one two punch, French vanilla. They’re just going to keep coming. We had the big three, big fundamental, like so many amazing nicknames. But yeah, I am just beyond excited to see what else Dylan Harper can do because just in that game alone, as this tweet said, I want to revisit this one. He is the second priority. And I think we we kind of knew that Stfan Castle will get again the the the looks this season first because again, he has that season under his belt. he has proven that he is a valuable player next to WBY over the course of a whole NBA season. So I I I do get the logic there of like, you know, maybe we we do give Castle the benefit of the doubt there, but Dylan Harper’s almost too good to to just not thrust him into that position right away. The number two pick again, he he would have gone ahead of Harper in last year’s draft, but now looking back, Harper won rookie of the year. I don’t know. They’re at similar levels or Castle won rookie of the year. I’m sorry, I’m getting these names mixed up, but Harper is so good. This game is so good. I don’t know how the Spurs got away with this and it’s going to look so good for so long. People are sleeping on the pure talent the Spurs have because so many people are focused on fit. I understand the fit could be a concern with Fox and Harper and Castle and all this, but the pure talent level is just going to make the Spurs so good and it’s going to be horrible to play against. Plus, we got that crowd now behind us. Oh, unbelievable. Leave your thoughts on everything down below. That’ll do it for this episode of Spurs Digest. 1. Salaried contracts aside, if we're looking at performance alone, I'm seeing Wemby, Kornet, Chanpagne, Jones Garcia and Harper as the starting 5 right now. This can change as the preseason progresses. When Fox returns, he can be rotated in to see if he can win a starting spot. That's the way a school yard would function. But we got marketing/brand recognition, corporate profits, fan expectations(mostly determined by media marketing) that interfere with the best combination of players. If Fox can beat out Harper or if Castle beats out Champagne/Jones Garcia, let them start. Same with all positions. We let $ interfere with decisions too often. This is what happens when you have big discrepancies in contracts but similar performances. Starting anyone in place of Fox for a prolonged period of time would create such fiscal chaos/embarrassment with managemnent, possibly necessitating a trade, which may be good for the team overall. This would likely necessitate some undrafted or G-league players to accept playing lesser roles despite their superior or equal level of development. Listen to your fans, they will help you decide. Looks like they were right about Leonard.

  2. I give the Spurs some credit for picking up DJG but if they were really geniuses, they would have drafted him instead of Harrison Ingram.

  3. Problem is DJG defense is mediocre. Also everyone is ignoring that OKC cat we signed who is not as flashy but is better defender N playing solid.

  4. I wonder what will happen to Josh when there is really going to be something big happening to get hyped about… I really like the idea of a youtube channel with fresh daily content about the Spurs, but the constant overreaction and exaggeration of the importance of things happening is getting annoying really quick.
Any chance you start to get a bit more objective? You present every signing of every garbage-time player as if we were the lakers and just made the Luka trade.

  5. With Fox, Castle, and Harper we should always have at least three elite guards on the floor pounding the rock. Thatโ€™s going to be a lot to handle for a full 48 for other teams, and not to mention you sprinkle JC and Vassel in there. Whew

  6. I hope the Spurs can find lots of time for David Jones Garcia during the regular season so we can see if his stellar play carries into the regular season; like they did years ago with Gary Neal.
