S2 Episode 1: The Spurs Are BACK in Preseason, Wemby’s Healthy, + 2025-26 Win Predictions Are In!
Spurs Bros, welcome in to season two, episode one, the Victor Wimanyama episode of the Spurs Bros podcast. My boys Stew Reagan on the mic with me. I missed y’all so much. I missed y’all. I missed y’all. I miss you guys. All right, so Spurs Bros, I hope you miss us as much as we missed you. We can’t wait to get back into all of the action. We said after we left off last season, we said there’s got a lot of cool things coming, new software. We’re just going to overall increase the production value of the podcast. And to keep that promise to you, we have a big announcement. So, going into season two, we have none other than, wait for it, the voice of the San Antonio Spurs, Jacob Toby on the podcast, and he’s coming on for next Wednesday. So, stay tuned. Stay tuned. We cannot wait for y’all to see this episode. Jacob Toby, he absolutely killed it and what an awesome guy. Down to earth guy and we just we we love that he’s in in the seat, man. Calling the playbyplay for the Spurs. Yeah, that was really awesome. And that was like in thanks to the listeners. I know we got sappy before we signed off, you know, 6 weeks ago, but thank you guys for the support. The fact that we have an audience like this enables us to get guests on the show that you guys hopefully want to hear from. You’ll notice like we’ve got the new software all ready to go. We got the background, we got the new setup, and that’s from y’all buying hats and from supporting us and encouraging everybody. So, appreciate y’all. But all that aside, we got Spurs basketball right around the corner, fellas. I know it’s preeason right now, but I’m already I’m already hyped and I’ve got some takes after we played the China Long Lions the other day. But, hey, they’re not NBA players for a reason. Let’s calm down. Let’s calm down. But hey, it was a hell of a hell of a preseason game to watch. Wimby killed it. We’ll get into all that. But yeah, it’s good to be back, fellas. Let’s roll. Yep. Let’s roll, man. So, yeah, a little things before we get into the preeason win prediction, first 10 games of the season. Kind of want to just go through a couple things that we’ve missed or at least maybe the the fans, the Spurs Bros have missed if they’re not keeping up with with basketball, NBA, Spurs basketball in particular, while we were gone. So, for those who didn’t know, Dylan Harper underwent a surgery for a torn ligament in his left hand on Friday, September 5th. He was likely to miss all of training camp in probably the beginning of the season. But turns out he had that surgery and he’s already had a schedule. So much so that he’s going to be playing as soon as possible ASAP. I mean, like definitely within the preseason. So, that’s phenomenal news. Phenomenal. Spurs doctors best in the world, man. Thank God he listened to us. Unlike Kawawaii, we see all that’s going for him, right? So, thank God Harper put his trust in us. Look at that. Already back fast. And he’s and he’s wearing that number two jersey. Like, so he’s he’s completely turning a new leaf on number two for the Spurs listening to the Docks. Yeah. The Docs already starting. Love him. Love him. I mean, we’ve seen clips like that the Spurs been putting out with all the, you know, like not training camp, but like offseason workouts at the Rock. He’s been in there. He’s been playing. He’s been scrimmaging like full game speed with a little brace on his thumb. But yeah, he’s ready to go. We might see him in Miami tomorrow. We’re recording this on Tuesday. But yeah, I definitely think we’re going to get to see him on the court with Wimi and most of the crew before the season opener. So, if that’s any indication of his work ethic in general and like what his ascent could look like, then hell yeah. I completely agree. I’m excited. We didn’t put that in the show notes. You’re right, man. We could talk about Kauaii for a whole segment if we wanted to, but a lot has happened the past month in the Kawaii. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But that’s a great little uh little through line about Kawaii and and two. Where’s my 30 mil? Yeah. Right. Seriously. Um so that’s that. Great to hear there. Just about everybody is going to be good for the start of the year except for for Darren Fox who is still recovering from his surgery. Uh well, not even from his surgery. I think it was from a hamstring issue. Yeah, he like cancelled his uh overseas tour in the off in the off season because the hamstring happened like either right before he went over there right when he got there he had to cancel everything like it was precautionary but I think they’re saying he’s going to miss what the first maybe week kind of like Vel last year missed like he might for the home opener going to miss uh which will be that weekend but definitely going to miss opening night but you know anyone who knows sports knows you don’t with a hamstring injury so we’re we’re more than happy just Hey, take another week. Take another two weeks if you need absolutely no need for something like that to come back a week early, especially the first couple games of the season when everyone’s getting into it. So, yeah. And he’s still he’s still at the facility getting shots up. He’s still practicing, just not like full contact, full go. He he kind of measures a week or two ago, he was kind of measuring himself based off the top speed that he’s hitting. And he’s trying to get to I think 18 miles an hour is like the top speed, which would be fastest in the NBA. He said he ran a smidge over 15 miles an hour like 10 days ago or 10 days ago or so. So, he’s like he’s ramping up. He’s close. Would love to have him for full training camp and preseason to, you know, work out whatever jitters, but that’ll just have to happen a few games in. He’ll be all right. Yeah, for sure. That’s all good and well. Now, on to the next, which is ESPN put out their top 100 NBA players lists. This is always super, you know, controversial in some sense. Yeah, definitely clickbait. But good news is three, no, four of our boys came in at in the top 100. So, we have to go through them. So, Stefon Castle came in at number 99 out of 100, which disrespectful. That’s disrespectful. This one got heated. Yeah, given the fact what they put other dudes at. I mean, compared to him, I know he’s a rookie and whatnot. He’s going to be going to his sophomore year, but he was rookie of the year and he was crushing dudes toward the end of the year. So, I don’t like that. I don’t like that one. But like you just said, controversial for sure. I I mean, you know, I I really don’t care about the list by any means. But yeah, I’d probably put him over Devin first off who Deon’s higher than him. We’ll get to that. But it was my one thing of everything was them just straight up Cooper flag was like 51 4950 right around there. And I was like, that’s absolutely insane. Kid hasn’t played it. You can’t tell me right now he’s he’s better than Cassel probably Deon Vel like any probably 45 guys behind him on that list. He has the potential for sure but that just pissed me off when you just throw someone like that straight to number 50 in the NBA hasn’t played minute of NBA ball just because of who he is. He like you know there’s no way he’s a better NBA player right now than probably anyone on that top 100 list if we’re being real. Yeah. I mean Reagan, do you agree with that? I I I don’t know. Cooper. I mean, he’s he’s kind of he’s legit, dude. He’s like he wasn’t legit against our rookie freaking Bryant. Phenom Carter Bryant. So, imagine, you know, you always you bring me back in. This is why I need you in my life. You always bring me like levelheaded, but cuz I sometimes I do buy into the hype of like the national media, but I need Stuart to kind of slap me in the face and bring me back down like on the M. He sucks. Yes. Carter’s dope and all, but but he also just went in, locked him. Couldn’t do you couldn’t dribble against him. Couldn’t get across half court when Carter was on him. So, how is she just going to come in the number 50 best player in the league? Get the Yeah. I mean, maybe if he if he’s 52, then Steph is top 50. Like, that’s that’s kind of where I landed. It’s like Steph’s rookie of the year, reigning. He’s already proven it for a full season. Um had some elite metrics. So, yeah, I I think the 99 is kind of crazy. And again, Fox is like right around there, too. Around the He’s in the late 40s, isn’t he? Late 40s, around 50. Yeah, that like you’re telling me Fox is only a couple plays better than a rookie who hasn’t played in Come on. It’s just silly to me. But let’s talk about Wimi top five. We’ll take that. We’re happy. Yes, indeed. You just announced it. You You went through the rest of them without me saying anything. Yeah. So, Devin Bell came in at 94. Darren Fox was actually at 35 and then Yeah. We he clocked in at number five, best player in the entire being fair. That’s accurate. Yeah, he’s still he’s still got some stuff to prove. you know, he missed half a season, so people forgot. But even with him only playing 46 games, they still moved him up to a top five player in the league right now before the season starts. I think he could be top three, maybe top two this season, depending on how things go. But top five behind, I believe it was SGA, Joic, Luca, and Giannis were the other top four. So, which is all like that’s fair. I mean, those are all guys that have either won a championship or been to the NBA finals, have won an MVP, multiple MVPs, DPO. Like, those are all things we see Wimby doing, but he hasn’t done it yet. But like they’re they’re saying he’s in that upper echelon that projects him to be first team all. I mean, and I mean, no Jason Tatum, no Hallebertton, no Dame, no Kyrie for half the year. Like, there’s all these other players who are missing, too. So like I I mean yeah slot him in there for sure and then after this season I’m uh barring you know injury or whatever like yeah he’ll be solidified this year healthy wimpy this year full season should no doubt be in the top like three four MVP voting run away with DPO like his last two years but he didn’t get the minutes or the the game amount so he should be in all those like Reagan said first he should be in all those top accolades this year if he’s healthy. Yep. Yep. Absolutely. Um and then not to mention, I mean, kind of blabbering the point, but you know, you’ve got guys like Steph Curry who are just obviously on the other side of of that prime who can still go out and crush, but aren’t going to be, you know, maybe Steph was like eight maybe. I think LeBron LeBron, Steph, uh maybe Harden was in there. I forget. But they were they were all like those two guys were top 10. Braun was Braun was in there still top 10. I mean, it’s ESPN, bro. What do you dang Okay. All right. Yeah. All right. Well, he’s got a new line of Hennessy coming out, bro. Are you kidding me? He’s got to be top 10. That show is wild. Geez. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh. A hell of a marketing campaign, though. You got to give him credit for that. True. True. Yeah. That’s right. So, moving along, we’ve got preseason awards to get to here. So, not surprising. We have DPOI Wimby as the favorite at a negative 185 minus 185 whatever you want to call it odds to win it um this year which obviously he should have won it last year what’s up you say negative 185 whatever you know what I’m saying yeah whatever yeah yeah yeah minus 185 heavy runaway favorite I think chat was second at like plus 650 uh if I saw that right so positive 650 WY Yeah. All right. Doing math over here. He’s not a gambling man if you can’t tell. Exactly. I’m not. But hey, I mean that’s I mean that is runaway favorite if I’ve seen it. Um if he hits 65 games, he will win DPI. There’s no there’s no doubt in in anybody’s mind. God forbid even if he didn’t have the best year the last as he did the last two years, he was still that much of a runaway that he Yeah. Basically, if he’s on the court for 62 plus games, he’s winning DP. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Now, um along those lines, you also have WBY tied for fourth best odds for MVP and that’s that’s right behind SGA obviously who just won it. Uh Jokic who had the argument to win it last year as well. And three of the last four. Yeah. And three of the last four. Luca Donuch who is coming in as slim slim boy. Luca coming in. got something to prove with the Lakers and then he’s Wimby is tied with Giannis on TMPO at fourth best odds which dude again accurate. And now on that point though, do y’all what what do y’all think Wimby would have to do to win MVP? It’s a long shot given those other guys, those other three dudes ahead of him, but what do you think he’d have to do to to win it? Like what would have to be like, okay, you have to give it to this dude. Shoot. play play how he did in the scrimmage all season and uh he’ll he’ll be he’ll be cooking. Yeah. I think I think realistically like we have to secure a top six spot in the West. Y if we’re if we’re a playing if we’re a playing team like I he’ll be top you know top three. He might be a finalist but he’s not going to win it with us being a playing team. He’s going to have to secure us a playoff spot because you know Joic is going to be in the playoffs. You know SGA is going to be in the playoffs. Luca, I mean, Lakers probably in the mix for a playoff seed. Um, the Bucks in a Banged Up East should be in a playoff spot. If those are his four like guys that he’s going to be competing with for that award, you’re going to want to see a playoff spot, which is going to be close to 50 wins. You know, it’s going to be Dpoy type stuff like he’s got a opportunity to have a really special season if if we secure playoffs. Yeah. Yep. I I think that’s right. I was going to say honestly like top five or four just like he had to be that good at least for this year to win it. Because here’s the thing, here’s the math that they do is if if he does have that season then they say, “Well, do we give it to him and then he’s only just going to get better? He might go ahead and win the next three, four, five, however many.” And we can’t give it to one guy every single year. So, but what if they’re like, “Well, but what if he gets hurt in like, you know, in like two years and so he like never wins one and we never give him one, like sort of thing.” Yeah. What if what if we never give Luca an MVP award and he came back, you know, new body and led the Lakers to a top five seed, blah blah. What if, you know, this is Giannis’ last year in Milwaukee and it’s going to, you know, he’s 31, 32 and blah. Yeah. All these narratives that the media personnel that vote on this, they might get caught up in that. So, you’re right, Alec. That’s that’s maybe like a legitimate thing to worry about in in terms of MVP for WHY, but we know he’s not actually worried about that. He just wants to win. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. For sure. His time will come. Lastly is rookie of the year. Dylan Harper is ranked as fourth best odds to win rookie of the year. You’ve got the obvious Cooper Flag to run away with it. Then behind him is Trey Johnson, VJ Edgecomb, and then Harper at plus,00. So I mean that that’s pretty good list. I mean Trey Johnson, he’s going to have a lot of reps. It’s obvious like, oh, why isn’t he the second? Because he was the number two pick. But it’s also like our system, how many minutes he’ll be get, you know? I’m surprised. I mean, not surprised that uh Old Boys at one because he’ll be a starter on that team and play probably 35 minutes a night. Um yeah, we don’t kind of don’t expect that from Harper. maybe in the 25 to 30 minute a night range and just won’t be getting probably the the numbers that he needs to because that was saw last year. Steph Castle one day ran away with it once once uh you know Fox was done for the season and it was all on Castle to get those numbers. He started averaging 20 and almost 10 a night and that’s when he ran away with it. I just don’t think unless barring injuries uh Harper will be getting those kind of numbers this year. Yeah, I agree. The the usage isn’t going to be there for him. Like people people are probably gonna kind of, you know, do a double take at Trey Johnson being like, “Whoa, Trey Johnson, like second best odds.” But like he’s in he’s in Washington. Like he’ll just he’s in basketball purgatory getting up 20 shots a game if he wants to. He could average 25 this year and everyone like, “Oh shit.” But yeah, he really could. But if they’re 20 and 60, you know, who cares? Yeah. It won’t matter if Flag has put up, you know, 15 seven and and three and the Mavericks win 50 games cuz they’ve got AD and Kyrie coming back. Like that’s where it’s going to go. Yeah. Yep. Completely agree, guys. We’ll see there. I again I’m looking forward to seeing seeing Dylan Harper just take the court, bro. I would love to see that. That kind of leads in though to the more fun things now, the stuff that we get to look forward to, which get me all giddy and excited. That was sort of just like a little recap what we missed. U what’s been in the news since we’ve kind of been on break. But now it’s it’s time. It’s time. The boys are back. Training camp started. Seems like that’s going well. Media day, all that’s going good. And up till now, we’ve also had the intra squad scrimmage on Saturday where where the boys went at each other, black vers silver, Spurs vers Spurs. The Spurs won and um and yeah, so that was that was all good and fine. And then uh preseason verse the the China Wait, wait, wait, wait. I’m sorry. I had to interrupt because there was one clip that came from that scrimmage that did millions and millions and millions of views on Twitter was Wimby got that rebound, brought the ball down the court, saw 7 foot, 270 lb Luke Cornet sitting in the paint and said, “Move, get out the way.” Looked like Giannis and Shaq and Wilt and KD all at the same time. and two hand yammed right on, you know, right through him. Everybody like if you go to those to whoever posted that thing got like a million views on it and all the comments were the exact same. It was like, “Bro, league is done. We got to win a championship this year or it’s over. He’s coming. He’s here, you know, like this dude is different planet, whatever.” Like he got strong. Oh crap, watch out. Like it’s it could be over for the league right now. Like if he if he could just do that, it might be over right now, dude. I mean, yeah, the way you’re right. Someone described it and it’s just perfect as this was like a mix of KD and I forget what who the big man was. I was like Shaq or or KG, oddly enough, who he was just uh being mentored by over the summer. That KD in the sense that like he came down, he got into that drop like wide drop and he got like kind of got low and he just like exploded by and then I think dude Luke Cornet’s like 71 or 72, dude. Like he’s actually even bigger than that. hell of a defender and a hell of a defender. And he bumped him with the with the left arm and just threw that down. Oh my god. Two hand jam right down his throat. Our group chat blew up. It’s like, you know, they did all over the damn well city. And yeah, man. We were just like, that’s what we’ve been waiting for for the past two years. It’s finally here, man. Let’s run with it. That’s right. Yeah, that was perfect mix. Like I said, yeah, KD and a and a just a beast down low as well, though. That was awesome. If he could do that, has one of those exact plays like every game. If WBY could have one of those every game, that would be insane. And and sometimes they’re even for freaking uh and ones. Here it is. Perfect. Like these games are important for every single person. But I don’t know what you do with that. Nothing important for every even got old Jacob. Jacob Toby. I don’t know what you do with that. Yeah. Nothing. Nothing. Perfectly said, Jacob. Yes, sir. So, you’re right. You’re right. Thank you for not letting me skip over that, Reagan, from the inner squad scrimmage. Next up, though, was the pre our preseason game, first preseason game against the China Long Lions. Notes there. Stuart, what was your favorite part of that scrimmage? I don’t know if you saw the whole thing, but probably what what a lot of people are going to say and what was blowing up all over Twitter that that Wimby and Cornet connection on the court together just 74 to 71 high pick and roll. What can anyone in the league do with that That is crazy work. Wimby popping off screens to shoot who no one can contest. Uh he’ll pass right over the top of any defender to Cornette or he can drive and then have two-on-one with that’s quite nearly unstoppable. And of course, like I just mentioned earlier, it was against players who aren’t in the NBA for a reason. But I mean, 74 to 72, that’s unmatched in the NBA. We can’t wait to see that lineup this year. Probably on opening night because it’s against the Mavs to run big line. So I cannot wait to see that lineup and more AD and Gaffford against those two. Yeah, it’s going to be a lot of fun. Well, dude, what was crazy though, like you said, the high pick and roll with this is what we were talking about when we signed Luke Cornet is all of his like quick decision-making ability and his his ability to like his effectiveness at setting screens, his effectiveness as a roller, his effectiveness at catching kind of a short roll and either dumping off or scoring or whatever it was. kind of set, not even like a full screen. It was just kind of little like brush, slip it, get that guy right on his back. And it was it was just a beautiful high low like you said, right over the top. I think it was like three plays out of like five or three out of four. It was either a dunk or a layup right at the rim. Basically uncontested for Cornet. It was so nice to see. But they can run that up higher, too. And you know, just let Wimi go. I mean, there’s so many options with that. And they seem to have that chemistry already. And as you know, as a big man, Reagan, like how you roll as a big man, how you keep on your hip, like that plays pivotal to the whole play, if it works or not, if if you have him in the right position. And he just no matter what angle he’s coming off, he can tell the way he’s rolling, the way he’s like shuffling down. Like he knows what he’s doing. He knows how to be a big man, you know, and like he he just knows how to use his body perfectly. all the angles he’s taken. It just takes you back to like, you know, seeing Timmy do that to see how like just they are, like you said, they have that chemistry already. And again, we have a 74 to 72 now, which is crazy. He’s even taller than we’re used to. Um, but yeah, he just knows what he’s doing in there, man. It’s it’s great to see that we finally have a solidified backup big man who can do And and like to that point like WBY is going to because of that action it’s going to just draw in if we keep crushing dudes with it, crushing teams with that then like that’s going to draw in other defenders from helpside and Wy just go kick to the corner which we saw Champagne knock down. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Speaking of that, uh Stuart, I don’t know if you all saw that epic again. Another just epic quote from from Wembal. Yeah. For those for those first rows that didn’t see that, it was like asking the post game. He was like, “Hey, you know, I saw you pass up a couple of threes or whatever to kick to Champenny in the corner, maybe for like a better shot or whatever.” Like, tell me about that. He’s like, “Yeah, quote, maybe I turned down a shot I could make with my eyes closed, but that was to get one of my teammates a shot that he could make in his sleep.” I was like, “Where’s that even mic drop? Where did that even come from?” And he’s like, “You know, you know what I’m saying, man? You know, you know.” I’m like, just so Yeah. Just so calm and casual about it. Yeah. Like, bro, you just dropped like the line of the year and it’s preseason against the Long Lions, bro. Yeah, man. Save some of it, my guy. Dude, that was just so good. It was so epic. Yeah. So, it was sick. I can’t wait to see more of that action, though. To y’all’s point, though, is is that high screener roll. Big man to big man. It’s It’s going to be epic to see. Um, the that part definitely jumped. Sorry. That part definitely jumped off the page. But to me, to get back to my hype from, you know, summer league was Carter Bryant looked really, really good. He played with good pace. He played with good composure. There’s a lot of moments in the in the summer league where they were just kind of giving him the ball to bring up the court and kind of playing out of position. He’s not an initiator, but he he made a lot of good plays, cuts to the rim, fast break dunks, layups. He had a nasty like jelly finish up and under on the baseline. Trail three. came into the game and like within 10 seconds almost got a baseline pickoff steal and then came down and got a layup on the other end, spin move to a dunk. Like he looked really really good and played really active if he plays like that with that kind of intensity and effort effectiveness. Miss Johnson is going to be hardressed to not give this kid minutes like very soon. No. Yeah. Just like we’ve been hearing. Yeah. what what he’s doing in practice and and scrimmaging this whole off seasonason and preseason. Mitch is like he’s not gonna be able to take him off the floor are going to be able to keep him on the bench knowing his freaking motor. We have other people on podcast talking about him and just high praising him man saying he’ll be DPI one year with Wimi on his team just because his motor is so high and he he’s got that body that length. Yeah. even though he’s a rookie man, like I just don’t see him kind of not being in the rotation and and I was like against that this past like after draft, you know, all summer. I was like, nah, rookie, he might be in Austin, but he’s just Yeah, just his motor is too high. Whether he’s scoring or not, scoring, hitting shots, he’ll still find ways to get four, six, eight points a game off steals or or key assists off a steal, a key stop. Like, I I know for a fact I want him. We had a lot of one possession games last year where we didn’t get that stop like four or five games in a row. I know I want him on the court this year for those. I don’t care played a minute on throw him in. I know he’s a rookie and Kell Johnson, Devin Vel are like the vets of the team, but like do you do you like All right, think about it. Like you just said, do you want Kell or Devin, you know, undersized small forward, average size shooting guard, consistent defensive lapses throughout their career, you know, lack of focus, whatever. don’t necessarily play hard on the defensive end all the time or do you want six foot eight, seven foot wingspan, high motor, high energy, locked in Carter Bryant on the floor for to make those defensive stops and then plays so well in transition like he doesn’t need the ball in the half court. He Yes, exactly. Great point. He needs to be on the court and I think we’re going to see him in in clutch situations like Oh, yeah. before New Year’s. Really? Yeah. I don’t know who it was, but I just saw it online on X. Someone had quoted and and said like Carter Bryant was basically like leaps and bounds better, like more athletic than anybody else that we saw in in summer league. And I think that was true, man. Like he was just he was just so good. Like those blocks that he got up off the ground, those those second jumps, the like steals and stuff like that. Like he just he is just so super athletic. That was the same pod that said they think he’ll be DPI one year with one. I think the only competition for like athleticism out of this rookie class, at least at the top, is probably VJ Edgecomb. Like that’s the one guy that comes to mind. But he’s like 65, right? Yeah. He’s small. Carter’s 6’8. Like healthily. He’s huge. Wing SP he’s like the perfect basketball specimen body. Like what you need. Yep. Yep. That’s be perfect. Perfect player for that, man. We’re going to need him for sure. And I I think if he just keeps it up, that attitude, that energy that just, you know, like, “Yesterday, may I have another kind of attitude like, you know, he’s going to get some some PT time.” PT. So, so mother may I. Yeah. Mother may I? When you say jump, I say how high. Yeah. Like that’s whatever you want to say. He got like 20 minutes of FaceTime with Pop at at practice today, too. Y’all saw that clip. He’s he said he just sat Pop came and sat with him for like 20 minutes and he was just peppering him with questions like he and he’s just soaking it up like he’s eager to learn. He’s got the right mentality. We’ve seen that thrive in San Antonio before. It’s going to happen again. Yep. So now moving along that gets us to where we like to be sort of at the end of these episodes, but we only get to do this one time a year and so we’re going to go win predictions for the 2025 2026 season. The Spurs uh overunder season wins is at 44 and a half games. So Stuart Reagan, what say you about win predictions this year? I mean, you know, I think Vegas has it right right in that wheelhouse of, you know, I’ve been stuck on that around 42 and 40 is what I’ve been saying for a long time. We’ll be in that 7 to 10 playing range, which is right about Yeah. 43 44 wins. You know, we look good, but preseason has started and that West is still a sick ass west. Everyone got better. We got better, but so did everyone else. It’ll be very tough to make that top six, especially barring injuries. We got a lot of injuryp prone guys. I’m going to say right at that 439 and I think we’ll be the eight seed. Have a play in. That’s my call. And when we have hell of a season, hell of a season. We’ll beat a lot of Eastern teams, but the West is very tough, brother. Do we make it into the playoffs? I know I know you said play in, but do we win the game to to get into the playoffs? Uh, we lose against the seven seed and then win against the winner of 910 at home in SA. Wimpy’s biggest game of his life. Everyone watching on ESPN or TNT. We win. We get as the AT. We beat OKC in six. Suck. Let’s go. Beat OKC in six would be so wild. Oh my god. All right. All right. So, Stewart came in first. I made up for the 43 and 39. See, and then we’re a second round team just like that. Reagan. Oh, yeah. I’ll go. So, I am always at the beginning of the year kind of susceptible to hype and I just want again I know I know it’s the long lions and it’s, you know, uh it’s Frank Kaminsky. It’s it’s washed up Victor Odipo. I know like Old Diva might make a roster actually, but I I get it. But based on what I’m seeing from our guys and hoping and praying that we get 65 games out of Wimi and out of Fox and out of Castle and and Harper and all these guy, all this depth, Cornet, I think the Spurs can win 48 games this season, top six seed, and potentially win a playoff. Uh potentially win the first round of the playoffs. So, it’ll depend a lot on who that, you know, who that three seed ends up being, but I think there’s going to be a bunch of teams bunched up between like the three and the seven. It’s going to come down to some tiebreers, but I think the Spurs went 48 games and secured the six seed in the West. There you go. Dang. The the only reason I was whistling was because I was really close. My win total prediction is 47. 47. Basically, same though, same end of story as kind of what you just mentioned, Reagan. I do think we make a make a playoff spot. I think everybody else is going to have lose g, you know, they’re going to lose more games than than we’re going to lose basically. Like meaning we’re going to be in that top six just with 47. I think last year was an anomaly. Um it was super stacked from whatever it was like four to 10, whatever it was. Yeah. Um and so I think they’re going to be a little bit of extra breathing room. Not a lot, but I think it’ll just be a little bit more. I think 47 wins will put us put us in in a playoff spot. So, that would be ideal. And it makes sense because given the fact that we won 34 games last year, which shout out to Tim to T Dog for nailing it right on the button, nailed it last year going into the season last year. But if you think about it, we had the 34 wins when we didn’t play more than what was it 40 something game, 42 46 games. 46 games. I mean, you’d imagine we get at least an extra six games wins with just him there. Now you add in Luke Cornet. Now you add in Dylan Harper off the bench. Now you add in hopefully a better, stronger, more mentally tough Wimi. Somebody who’s ready to take a lead. And you’ve got like all these other guys in the like in the periphery. Fox to play the last 20. That that’s that was the one I was missing. Yeah. And Dylan Darren Fox. They’ve only played five games together. And you’ve got of course Stefon Castle. I think I think he’s gonna be be make the biggest, you know, jump in and leap other than Wimi and um that’s gonna be fun to see, too. I mean, you have all those components that should get us an extra seven wins on top of what I think we should have won last year. That’s my math if that makes sense. Love it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, dude. I mean, you kind of forgot some names, but like that’s going to happen because we have so many names now. Like, this is the deepest team that we’ve had in years of like actual contributors and guy. Like I’m having a hard time. Like where is Julian Champini going to get minutes from? Like where is Kell Johnson going to find his minutes? Where is Carter Bryant going to find his minutes? And these are all guys that would get real run on a lot of teams in this league. So we’ve got a lot of depth. I’m super excited, like you said, to see how all these pieces fit together and and how that translates into uh hopefully 48 wins. The only things that we only guys we didn’t really mention there as far as like new roster additions were Kelly Oolen and Lindy Waters III. Uh Olen didn’t play in the in the scrimmage or in the first game against the Lions. I think he just had a kid. Um so he’s kind of missed a little bit of time, but Lindy Waters got a lot of run. Man can shoot. Um he’s he’s living up to the hype there. What did I mean? Did you see anything? Think anything Lindy Waters? So, I was just going to say, ironically, I mean, those two are statistically our best three-point shooters on the team, and that’s what we need the most of on this squad from compared to last year’s and previous years before that is three-point shooting. So, I mean, let you know, like you just said, Carter, all these other guys, how are they going to get on the court if they’re our best three-point shooters? Hey, we’re just talking about Wimi and and Oolen filling up that paint, getting wide open shots. If if those starters and first guys off the bench are hitting those wide openen threes, hey, we have Kelly Olen and Lindy Waters who are statistically the best three-point shooters on our team at them runs. We got to be hitting shots. You know, we we’ve said it and we’ve heard it in interviews and stuff. Now isn’t the time anymore for, you know, oh, you’re you’re Deon Vel, you’re Kell Johnson’s, you know, you’re you’re a vet on the squad. You you’re the most tenured spur. I have to play you. No, no. All that time is done. Now I’m playing Carter Bryant. If he’s hitting shots and he’s locking down, you sit on the bench and wave that towel like Patty Mills. Um, you know, I don’t care who you are anymore. Yeah. I mean, best wins. Yeah. Best man’s playing. It’s all about winning. The only thing that matters now is winning. You know, suck it up. Be a team player. And I think we I think we have all those characters on the team. We’re team players, but but yeah, I mean, yeah, you how we didn’t even mention Lindy and Kelly. They just run if they’re hitting shots. We haven’t said anything about Harrison Barnes either. Oh my gosh. He was he was our best three-point shooter last year. 82 game starter like Yeah. So we It’s a good problem to have for Mitch. Absolutely. Way better than any problem we’ve had the past four years. Oh, we finally dep thank God. Yeah. Oh, we got to get Zack Collins 20 minutes. It really is. Put up our shut up and best best players on the night are going to be playing. Sit your ass on the bench and wave that towel and be a good teammate. Boom. I love the takes, dude. I love the take because Yeah. And this kind of goes back to what I was saying toward the end of our season one uh podcasting and I I said I’m really happy that we’ve raised the floor of our talent pretty big like pretty big time like you said. So significantly. Yeah. So if you we it’s great to have those those weapons in our corner. Yeah. So to your point, Ste, it’s like, yeah, if you’re not hitting, Lindy Waters the third, you’ll you’ll at least knock down a couple, you know, shots. And then Kelly Olenick, he’s just a smart basketball player, great shooter from as well, but just body can shoot. 611. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. So shout out Bism Bombbo. We resigned him for a one-year deal, too. Bism is back. Um it’s probably not a good sign if he’s playing a lot of minutes this year, but but he’s a good teammate to have. Everyone says how he’s a character, great locker room guy. So always those in the locker room, you know. Yeah, 100%. And he’s a guy that can come in like we saw he he came in I think he had like six double doubles in his first 10 games with us last year. So like he can come in play some spot minutes. We know Wimy’s not going to play 82. So in those games we start Cornet and we still have Kelly Olen and Bismak Biombo coming in to to have some size on the court. Uh and hopefully kind of keep the same kind of play style and schemes that we try to have like I feel I feel good person like knows his role ain’t going to spot up for a three knows what he’s supposed to do out there and do it. Yep. Yep. Knows what he’s supposed to do and do it on those 15 games or whatever that one will hopefully not be injured for but just you know rest for this year. Yeah. So good to have. Yep. Exactly. Well, boys, I think that’s a good little stopping point. We We still have a lot to cover, but you know what? We should we should pace this out next week. We’ll get into first 10 games of the season. We’ll look ahead to other or look back, I guess I should say, on on the other preseason games that we’ve had. We’ll have played Miami. We’ll have played I think the PA or the Jazz and the and the Pacers by then. And so, yeah, I think we’ve got a lot to cover going into next week as well. Yeah, I want to get into starting five predictions next week, too. different. Let’s do it, boys. I wish there was a spurs sys
I am so hype by this "new" Wemby.
Last season, Wemby was an amazing defender, a great finisher at the rim and was starting to become a great 3-point shooter (38% on his best 20 games from 11st of november to the 5th of january).
But his post-up game was almost inexistant because he was just pushed back far from the rim by smaller defenders.
This season, on the first preseason games, he has already shown that he can hold even against big players such as Nurkic.
The Spurs will now chase the mismatches at the post and the only way to defend on Wemby will be to systematically double play him (or he will just sanction). As Wemby is already a great passer, it will of course open lines of drives for Fox, Castle, Harper and opened 3s for Barnes, Vassell, Olynyk, Champagnie,…
Wemby should also get much more FTs. And as he is a >80% FT shooter, his efficiency should skyrocket.
Based on this, this is very difficult to not imagine a big leap for Wemby this season (as it was expected for a generational talent in his third year in the league).
If it is still difficult to imagine Wemby better than surhuman players such as Shai, Jokic, Giannis or Luka, he should definitely be the best player of the second tier. If no injuries (for Wemby or for the four previous players), my pronostic is also a 5th seed in the MVP race and a first selection in the 1st all-NBA team.
People didn't understand that Kornet will really be the X-factor for the Spurs this season.
This season, such as last season, all lineups with Wemby will get a very positive NetRating (last season, 3 of the 4 most used lineups with Wemby were > +10 in NetRating).
Last season, the second unit lineups were quite catastrophic (with mainly Sochan as backup 5 and absolutely no rim protection). This season, with better defenders and an elite rim protection (of Kornet), the lineups without Wemby shouldn't be so negative in term of NetRating.
At the end, it should make the difference to win more games. I then definitely think that the only presence of Kornet in the second unit will bring several wins to the Spurs.
My prediction is 45 wins this season.
Because the western conference will be very difficult, this number of wins (45) could be closed to the 6th seed. I really don't think that, except OKC with more than 60 wins, there will be tons of 50 wins teams.
This season, the Jazz could be the only western team to win less than 30 games.
Cat on the right is tripping! With just Wemby last season not injured and extra 3-4 wins, with Fox another 2-3 puting us at least 40 wins. Now replacing Wesley, Branham, along with a couple others. Revamped with a stronger, taller, more athletic, dedicated, with higher IQ. 51 wins and 4th seed maybe out in second round. The bench has solid backups from the G. And we might make a move mid season if some players arent getting it done.
Quite a delay in posting this video.
Let’s go!
Go Spurs Go !
Yo! Let’s go
Good podcast dudes, from France 🤠
For Wemby to have MVP Spurs have to be in the top 3 seeds in the west…
SPURS BROOOOOS !! My favorite
The best part about this offseason, outside of our FA and rookie additions, is that no one is talking about Stephon Castle. I can't wait to see him tear it up in his Sophomore year.
