When you think of the Pistons, you think it’s hard work and just gritty basketball. That’s his identity you got to have when you put on that jersey. I’m not your average king. Not a good dog, a bad boy for life. I set the tone, don’t care about no tick. Let it be known. I kiss my respect. Come in the lane and see. I don’t love you. If you retaliate, that’s on you. Talking I walking, you must put this [Music] mess around. [Music] Don’t mess around. [Music] better cuz I’m trying for somebody cuz I’m not [Music] [Applause] messing around by now. [Music] What up though? Welcome back to another episode of the Downtown Deuce show. So tonight, boss, who is usually here with me postgame, is at the Denver Nuggets preseason game right now, the home matchup versus the Chicago Bulls. So I am sure that she’s going to have some updates from that game and she is going to be back with us for the Pistons preseason finale against the Washington Wizards. Speaking of her being at the game, um she sent something to me that I think you guys would enjoy. yet. [Music] Yeah. THJ, man. TJ, it’s good to see him land on his feet with a winning organization. You know, he was great for us last year and it’s good to see him, even though he moved on, be able to have an impact with a winning team. I have the Denver Nuggets winning the NBA championship this year and so I think he is going to be a big part of that for them. So, it’s good to see THJ. Shout out to him, man. Hope you have a good season over there. If you guys ever have any questions too about the Nugget, the Denver Nuggets, uh, Boss is the person to talk to because she lives out there and she’s very familiar with their franchise. She’s been to a ton of games. She knows all about Jokic, Jamal Murray, all the moves they’re making. So, I’m sure she’s going to have some uh updates for us with that. But, let’s get into tonight’s game. So, the Pistons just concluded their real matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers in their third of four preseason games this year, and they lose tonight 100 to 118. The Cavs tonight were without Darius Garland. In the Pistons, they also went with a different lineup again tonight. They started Danish Jenkins. He got his first start. Um, he started alongside Duncan Robinson, Osar Thompson, Tobias Harris, and Jaylen Durren. So, when I saw that, I said, “No, Kaden Ji tonight, right? I knew that pretty we knew pretty early once they weren’t starting, they were going to be coming off the bench.” And it looks like the Pistons, they want to make sure that their starters are as rested and healthy as possible on day one of the regular season. So, while at the same time still getting a look at different guys and different combinations and how they kind of mesh together and we saw a little bit of that experimentation tonight, it was good to see JD out there, right? The first two games, you know, JD didn’t play, he had hamstring tightness, so tonight was the first game he played of preseason after missing the previous two. And I mentioned last game, guys, that that I didn’t think it was serious and tonight we saw that it wasn’t. So, that was good to see. He was moving around well and he played well in the time that he was in the game. We’ll get to that later. I’m going to be honest though, I was hoping to see J uh Ji and K tonight. I want to see them get as many reps as they can, but we’re going to have to wait until the Pistons preseason finale home opener for that, which is on the 16th. So, hopefully we’ll get to see that. We also didn’t see Carvert, another guy I was hoping to see with these guy. I want I want to see these guys get as many reps as possible. That’s what the preseason is for, but you also have to prioritize prioritize health. So, I’m just honestly hoping that his familiarity with uh coach bigger staff is going to speed up the learning curve for him when it comes to not having the chance to really play with his new teammates cuz he’s he’s new here. So, it’s going to take him some time. Even though he understands the scheme and what JB does, he still needs to understand his teammates, their weaknesses, their strengths, things, their tendencies, things like that, timing, all those things are important. So, I’m hoping that they’re going to get enough reps together um in the next game. And I would have liked to see him tonight, but it is what it is. And I imagine guys on the 16th, the fourth and final game of the preseason that we will see our projected projected rotation and our starting lineup of Cade, Jaden, Assar, Tobias, and JD. Cuz guys, believe it or not, it’ll be the first time if they all play in this last game, it’ll be the first time that we have ever seen that starting lineup ever. We have never seen the lineup of Cade, Jaden Ivy, Assar Thompson, Twi Harris, and JD. We have never once seen that starting lineup. Last year to start the season, Assar Thompson was out with the blood clot. So, we had THJ at the three with Jaden at the two. And when Jaden went down, not long after is when we saw Sar Thompson get moved into the starting lineup because he was able to play more minutes. His conditioning was getting better. So, we never saw that lineup. So, hopefully we’ll get a chance to see that. I was hoping to see that this preseason, but we didn’t get to. But hopefully this last game we’ll at least get to see our rotation and more importantly those the starting five. So, let’s go ahead before we get to initial thoughts, let’s go ahead and get into some comments. I see you guys all in the chat. Vulture, what’s going on? Desmond says needs to be more aggressive. Can’t make a free throw to save his life. If he can knock down free throws, he can average 15 plus. We’re going to get to him. Detroit Drew, what’s going on? Zion, what’s going on? Um, what’s going on, Enoch from Mexico, what’s going on? Shout out to you. Zion says, “Got to tell Duncan to just let that ball fly off the handoff.” I agree. I agree. I agree. Danis is an NBA player. He looked comfortable out there with the starters. We We are going to get to him for sure. For sure. And Kenyatta says, “Can’t wait. I cannot wait until the regular season as well.” Okay, guys. All right, let’s get into some initial thoughts. Right. So, first things first, I say this almost every game now. I am not going to make too much of this game because the Pistons were without. We just talked about it. The starting back court, Kade and Jaden were not available. They were both out and so naturally naturally the offense is not going to look as fluid. It’s not going to look like what we’re used to seeing because these guys have to get used to playing together. Now, aside from that though, there were some things in this game that jumped out to me right away. The first thing was that jumped out really was the size disparity in the front court. The size disparity in the front court. We know the Cleveland Cavaliers, they play big. They played their two big lineup of Jarro Allen and Evan Mobley and that was a problem especially in the first half. They were all over the boards. They were extremely active in the paint and to be honest they imposed their will, right? The Pistons were also a little bit sloppy. They had some careless turnovers in both halves, right? They cleaned up a little bit but then kind of reverted back to the carelessness. Um they had a lot of errant passes, a lot of miscommunication and certain actions and that resulted in turnovers, right? And they got run outs. Did the Cleveland Cavaliers get easy points, transition transition points? The Pistons, they had nine first quarter turnovers and that in part led to the Cavaliers getting 42 first quarter points. 42 first quarter points for the Cavs and 31 for the Pistons. So, the Pistons, they have to clean that up. They have got to clean the turnovers up. Um, I will say the bench really turned the tide in the first half, first quarter, beginning of the second quarter. Once that lineup um came in, the guy guys like Isaiah Stewart, uh Javvante Green who played well tonight, Ron Holland who played well tonight, they were able to get back into the game um and really even take the lead going into the second quarter or finish in the second quarter. So in the third quarter, the defense picked up on both sides, but the Pistons, they went cold. They went cold and they could not take care of the basketball. And the Cavs made them pay once again transition offense. They were doing a lot of things that we like to do, right? It’s the Pistons are at their best when they’re taking care of the ball because that allows them to set up on defense and then turn the other team over and get out of transition. So, they got to get back to who they are and that starts with taking care of the basketball. That’s going the offense is going to help the defense tremendously if they don’t turn the ball over. So, that led to a 15-1 run in that third quarter, just cold shooting and turnovers. And by the end of the third quarter, the Pistons were down nine. And by the time we got to the fourth quarter, the Pistons had gone deep into their bench and we saw more turnovers. Um, and guys, you can see they really just not looked looked like they played a lot together. They were out of sync. Um, the timing was off, the rhythm was off. They were just out of sync. And the lead ball alone to double digits in the fourth quarter. And that was pretty much it, man. Because on the other side, the Cavs were still playing their starters. Donovan Mitchell, Jared Allen, Evan Mobley, those guys were all still in the game in the fourth quarter while we had emptied our bench by that point. So, by that point, you don’t expect to win the game. Um, you’re just looking for certain things and we saw a few things individually and we’re going to get to those things in a second. Before we do, let’s get to some more comments. Marvin, what’s going on? Yes, sir. Jenkins is the backup point guard. I’ve been saying that since the beginning of last offseason when we got into summer league. So, we’re going to get to him. Organic Linda, what’s going on? Terra says, “Dennis looked good.” Yes, he did. Well, we’ll have Kade size next. That That’s a good point, Kenyatta, because Kade is a good rebounder for a point guard. So, we are going to see how that plays out, right? All right, we’re going to see if we’re going to get a lot all of our guys crashing the glass. Only thing is if if that happens, it limits what you can do in the break. But as long as we’re not leaking out too early and we’re grabbing the boards, that’ll help us tremendously for sure, Kinyatta. So, I agree with you. Zion says, “Dur was moving smooth out there. Thought he was a guard for a sec.” Yeah, he was looking smooth. He was also looking strong. We going to get to him for sure. Organic says, “Full time point SR isn’t it at all.” I just tweeted that about a half hour ago, right? We’re going to get to that as well. Miyuki says, “Aloha and what up? What’s going on from Hawaii? Miyuki Pistons Nation got to get the kinks out, but it’s preseason for a reason. Yes, sir. Let’s go. 100%. Let’s get to a few more and we’ll get to the individual box scores, guys. Marvin says Durham moves like a young You’ve been saying C Web for a while. I’ve been saying I’ve been saying Germaine O’Neal, but you’ve been saying C Web. I like I like both. I see a little bit of both of those. And Desmond says n point Assar will work if Kade and Ivy’s out there. That’s we so we got that’s the thing. We got to see it. We just And that’s why I wanted to see the our starting lineup guys. We have not seen all five of those guys on the court together as a starting unit. Isn’t that crazy? Isn’t that crazy? We’ve had those guys to all together for over a year now with Tobias being here being signed last offseason. We have never once seen that starting five. So, that’s going to be key. Desmond, I hope you’re right because I think if those two guys are out there, then you don’t there is not a need really at all for Assar to handle the ball. He is in my opinion better off the ball. So, we’ll see how that works. We’ll see how that works. Mar says Sacramento Seb. I got you. I got you. All right. So guys, let’s get to the initial thoughts. Oh, I’m sorry, the box score. We did the initial thoughts. Let’s go to the box score. So, let’s start with uh Dennis Jenkins. We just talked about him a little bit. Let’s start with Tink Dennis Jenkins. So, tonight he had 19 points. He had on five and six shooting, three or four from three, six to seven from the free throw line. He had two boards, six assists, one steal, five turnovers in 34 minutes. So, it’s funny because I was guys, I was texting um his I was texting with his trainer, Jeremy Hart. Shout out Jeremy before the game and during the game and he was the one that let me know that this was his first NBA start. This was Dana’s first NBA start tonight. So, it was first of all, it was really nice to see him get the opportunity. We know his story being undrafted. Um, not even getting hearing his name called, working his way through, getting signed by Trajan Landon, trying to find that diamond in the rough as Tan Langden seems to have a a knack for doing, moving into summer league, you know, last season with the with the Cruz and now finally getting a chance to get his first NBA start. It’s preseason, but it’s still NBA start. So, that’s good for him to just get his feet wet as far as getting starter minutes with the playing with the starting unit, and that was good for that. So, looking at his matchup, he was matched up against Donovan Mitchell. Tough cover. Tough cover. And to be honest, Dennis looked a little bit anxious early, right? He turned it over uncharacteristically. I think it was the first second play of the game, but then he settled in. He knocked down his first three ball a few plays later and he just really started to settle in um offensively and being that Floyd general, that orchestrator that we’re used to seeing. I told you guys, man, over a year ago, I said it before when he was in summer league uh before last season that I was saying Danish Jenkins is an NBA player. He is a good player. He does not really get rattled. He’s usually always ready as soon as he comes to the game. And him starting tonight was an adjustment. So, he had to mentally change that. We talked about how him and his coach Jeremy often time when they work out, the first thing they do is get shots up cold because he’s going to be in the backup role, right? He’s not going to be a starter off rip. So, he has been used to getting shots up cold off the bench. So, tonight was an adjustment for him as a starter, right? And he played well. He played well, man. I saw some comments on Piston’s Twitter saying how much they miss Kate Cunningham in this game. And I’m like, come on, bro. K Cunningham is very likely going to be MVP convers in the MVP conversation this year. Of course, you’re going to miss him. Of course, he’s going to be missed. And of course, it’s not going to look like how you’re used to seeing it because Dennis and Cage are two different types of point guards. Any team will miss their MVP player. Ask around the league. Take Shay off the team and see what happens, right? Take Joic off the team. See what happens. So, you get my point. But Dennis was able to do some things offensively. He was able to get into the paint. He was able to create gravity and get open shots for his teammates. He had a couple turnovers in the third quarter. It looked like miscommunication. I know he had five tonight, but some of those weren’t his. Some of those were, but some of those weren’t his. You could see the play the there was a miscommunication there and it just wasn’t his fault, right? So, we saw that and that was a few turnovers. So, I would probably give him two or three of those five, but he did have a couple. But overall, I mean, two to two turnovers and six assists. That’s a three to one. So, I’m taking that all day long, right? But once again, he hasn’t had a lot of reps with the starters. So, I thought, you know, it’s it’s not a good thing to have turnovers, but he didn’t have a lot that were his fault. But it makes sense why there were miscommunications between him and teammates, right? Because they don’t play together a lot with the starting unit. But considering the lack of reps that he has had with these guys, that’s why I’m giving him a pass for those turnovers. I’m giving them a pass as well, just for that reason. But I do think that he has shown more than enough guys to prove that he deserves an opportunity to be the backup point guard for this team. I mean, 19 points, six assists in your first game on very efficient shooting, five or six from the field, three or four from three, six or seven from the free throw line in your first start with a with a lineup that you’re not used to really playing with. So, I think he’s definitely proven, right? He is proven that he deserves that spot. Whenever it’s not Cade at the point or Jaden or Caris at the point, it needs to be Danish Jenkins 100%. He is one of the two natural point guards on this team, right? Kade is the natural point obviously and then Danish Jenkins, right? We know Jaden can play the one. We know that Caris can play the one, but Danish Jenkins is a one. He is a point guard and that’s something that we need with the departure of guys like Sher last year, right? So, it’s he’s going to be important for sure. Let’s get to some more comments before we move on. Let’s see. Yeah, I know. Mega, rest in peace to D’Angelo. For for those of you who know, D’Angelo was a very influential R&B singer around my when I grew up as I was coming up in my generation. He was very very influential, great artist, and he passed away today of pancreatic cancer at 51. Crazy. So, prayers to his family, man. Measa says, “After seeing this game, I ain’t worried about the Cavs at all. Danish was torturing the starters.” Right. Right. Exactly. So, you get it. You get it, man. He’s proving that he’s an NBA player. He can and he was, like I mentioned, his matchup was Donovan Mitchell, guys. That’s tough for anybody. That’s tough for most starters. That’s tough for any starter. So, it just show it just shows you that even though guys don’t always go undrafted or guys go undrafted at times, it doesn’t signify who they are as a player. And a guy like Dennis Jenkins is more than worthy of being on this team and having a roster spot. And I think he’s shown that and has continued to stay ready. To stay ready. So, let’s keep moving. Let’s keep moving. Marvin says, “Dennis looks kind of like Ishmith.” I see that. I see a little bit of that. He’s But he’s a little bit bigger, right? I think Ish was like 6’1. Dennis is 63, maybe even 6’4. So, he’s bigger, he’s stronger, and Dennis can shoot the long ball, right? Ishmmith was a mid-range guy, right? It’s for this team at least, right? He was really good in the mid-range. He was not a good shooter from three. Dennis Jenkins is a good shooter from three. Three or four from three in his first start. Yeah. So, I do see some similarities there, but I think Dennis Jenkins is the better overall player if if we’re going to go there. But, but good comparison. I like that. Desmond says, “Asar shoot take should take all the threes he possibly can during preseason. Seeing Amen shoot 80% for threes during the preseason and no down off the dribble threes got me feeling some type. I know I know what you mean, but Desmond, the confidence has to be there. The confidence has to be there and right now you can see it’s really not there for him right now.” So, we’ll get to that. That score and hoop Dennis did on the Cavs triple team was the play that you saw that he got to the rim did like a Michael Jordan crazy right up and under scoop um under under the trees. Evan Mobley, Jared Allen, all those guys were under the rim and he still put it through. Donovan was playing like it was a playoff game. He he looked like he was really engaged, too. That’s what I’m saying. Dana still came to play. He still came to play. He still did enough for this team to win had they done other things. Well, it wasn’t his fault we lost this game at all. So yeah, Danny Shing is is a good player, man. Bush Ivy was there. Wanted to see him battle with SP. I did, too. I did, too. I was looking forward to that match because I see a lot of similarities in their games for sure. Art. All right, guys. Let’s go ahead and get to our next guy. I’m going to get to as many comments as I can. If if I miss your comment, you know, Sarah’s not here tonight, so she’s usually moderating for me. She’s not here, and I’m really beginning to miss her already. So, I’m going to do the best I can to get to these comments. If I miss you, repost it, super chat, whatever. Caps, whatever. Y’all know y’all know the drill. What’s going on, Tom? My dog. We gonna get to you a little bit later, bro. Says he’s been really, really good. And that’s Danish Jenkins. So, you guys get it. Yeah. Shout out to Tom. You guys get it, man. He’s been playing very, very well. Very, very well. Let’s go ahead and move on. So, now we’re going to go, guys, to our next guy. Let’s go to Let’s go to Tobias Harris, man. Let’s go to Tobias Harris. Tobias Harris tonight. What did he have? How did he do? Tobias Harris tonight had 19 points on five for 11 shooting. two, three from three, seven for nine from the free throw line, five boards, one assists, one block, two turnovers in 22 minutes. So, I got to say the first the first Well, I’ll just say this. Both of these halves were a contrast for Tobias Harris cuz that first half he struggled. He really struggled, man, with the calves length. Um, you could see he couldn’t get a shot off. Um, he couldn’t hold on to the ball. They were knocking they were, you know, knocking the ball away. um he just really couldn’t get anything going in that first half. He just looked out of sync offensively and he just couldn’t find any rhythm. Second half though, different story. Second half, he was much more aggressive, much more active on both sides of the ball. He was much more active on the boards, right? Grabbing rebounds, offensive rebounds, um finishing defensive plays, grabbing a defensive rebound, and he was able to get to his offense. He was just much more active. He looked kind of lethargic in the first half. Second half, he really started to get to it. So, it was good to see him get going. And I think he was our leading scorer tonight with 19 point. Yeah, he and Dana Jenkins were the leading scorers with 19 points and he did it in 22 minutes. Um, so yeah, overall pretty good game. He didn’t play great in the first half, but he made it for in the second half and was able to get going. All right, let’s get to a few comments, guys, um, before we move on. Let’s see. Tobias nickname should be Mr. Stable. Yeah, he’s just consistent. He’s just consistent. That’s really pretty much what you expect from him at this point in his career, right? Year 15 for Tobias Harris. Year 15. So if you can get consistency and he’s if he can be healthy, keep him healthy and he can give you that steady consistent 15 to 20 a game, 15 to 18 a game, right? And give you solid defense, good leadership, that’s all you want. That’s all you’re asking for. Marvin says, Tobias Golf. Yeah, nothing flashy, just gets the job done, right? That’s pretty much what Tobias Harris does. And Marvin, that is you need to get that patented because that’s that’s pretty accurate there, brother. Organic says Tobias pulled out the cutlery and started Yes, he did. He started cooking in that third quarter. he got going. He really kept us in the game offensively in that third quarter. Him and uh Dennis Jenkins kept us afloat. Measer says, “I thought Paul Reed, Bobby Clement, and Javvante Green all played well for the little minutes they had.” Absolutely. You are on You were on it with that, sir. On point. We’ll get to autos guys in a minute. Low budget talker says, “What’s up with Ivy not getting any playing time? He hurt?” I don’t think so. The same questions that people had about JD, just like this one, guys. The first two games he was out with hamstring tightness and they were saying, “Where’s JD? Is he hurt? No, he’s he wasn’t hurt at all. It’s a matter of just guys getting I I won’t say he wasn’t hurt at all. I won’t say that. But I I He could have played, but it’s preseason, so I think we want to go into the season as healthy as possible to avoid any knick-knack nagging injuries, anything that could hold up what we’re trying to do as far as what we’re trying to get to this season. So, I think that was more precautionary than anything. And Detroit Drew says, “Ryan looked good.” Yes, we’re going to get to Ryan as well. All right, guys. Let’s move on to our next starter for tonight in this game and that was Duncan Robinson. So guys, Duncan Robinson tonight had three points on one for three shooting, one for two from three, five boards, two assists, one steal, and 21 minutes. So he didn’t give us a lot of scoring, right? He didn’t have a lot of opportunities. Actually, he took three shots, right? So he he didn’t get a lot of shots up and that was what was mentioned earlier as far as just letting it fly when you catch it off off the DHO or coming off the screen. You got to let it go. Got to let it go, right? So I think he’ll eventually get there. We know he has a green light. We saw him in Miami for all those years shoot 40% from three all those years. So we know that he can do it. I think he just needs to understand that maybe he needs to watch some Beasley film. Not to watch to see how he can play like him, but just to see how much he was letting it go when he had the opportunity. because we’re going to need him to give us that consistent shooting from long range on an base bas on a nightly basis off the bench for sure. So, I agree with whoever said that in the comments. Repost it. Let me know so I can shout you back out. But he looked good as a playmaker, right? Coming off screens, he was able to get to the rim at times and find the open man in the corner like guys like Ron Holland who was knocking it down. Like I said, he didn’t shoot the ball a lot, but he made plays and knocked down open shots when they were there. But he did defensively he had five fouls midway through the third quarter. a lot of bad fouls. We know he’s not a good defender. That’s something we are going to have to live with. Hopefully, we can continue to put guys around him that are defenders, guys like Stu, guys like Devonte Green who play well tonight, guys like Ron Holland to kind of mask him defensively. But we’re going to need him to improve. Even his own teammate, uh, Udon Hasslam said that when he was on ESPN, he said, “You got to play some D. We know you can score. We know you can shoot, but you got to play some D.” So, Duncan, if you’re watching, got to play some D. So, let’s let’s keep it moving. Um, Terra says, “Missing Bes.” Yeah. Listen, guys. I think I think Duncan Robinson is a is a good shooter. A really really good shooter. One of the best in the league. But I don’t know if he can. And not that we’re even asking him to, but she’s saying here we missing Bees. I don’t know if anybody off the bench, guys, can shoot the way Bees can with the volume that he shoots at. Like anybody can shoot two for three a couple games, but to go 6 for 10, to go 8 for 14, right? 10 for 17 sometimes from three, like those volume counts, those volume numbers, and to still be able to knock down that many. I don’t know if Duncan can do that. And that’s kind of what I’m worried about, right? We have other guys who can who are like Carver who can knock it down as well. But Bees was just consistent, man. He knew his role. He played it to a T. So this is not to disparrage anybody on the team, right? But I do agree that as of right now, it does look like we’re missing some of that punch as far as just knocking down open shots when they’re there and keeping us in games and giving us those flurries offensively that guys like Bees could bring. So, we’ll see what happens. Organic says, “Duncan makes me miss Bees. That trigger just ain’t this right.” I just saw this comment right before I made that statement about this. So, Organic, I 100% agree with you on that. Desmond said his Gladus contract is not fully guaranteed. So, after the season, guys, his contract is not guaranteed. I think it’s a three-year deal and it’s only guaranteed through this season. So, I think there’s a team option as soon as this season is over. So, we’ll see what happens. Hopefully, it works out for him and for us. We’ll see what happens. Jared and Duncan look related. Duncan and Jared. Who is Jared? Jared and Duncan. Duncan Robinson and Jared. Oh, Jared G. I’m I’m I’m dead. That’s hilarious, bro. They kind of do with the hairstyle, the little oblong head. Yeah, I I see it. I see it. I see it. I see. That’s funny. That’s funny. Marvin says it’s the bees swagged. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You’re right. You’re right. You’re right. The shimmy is missed. The shimmy is missed as far as a confidence standpoint. Giving these guys confidence on the floor knowing they can go to him in big moments. I I agree with you. I agree with you. Few more. We’ll keep going. Do you think Assar can play his way out of a starting role if subpar plays play continues through preseason? Anything is possible. He’s He’s still too good defensively for me to sit him down, but he has to improve. But once again, like I’ve said for the thousandth time already, and you got probably exhausting you guys with this. We haven’t seen all these guys together yet. We haven’t seen Jaden. How many plays, how many memorable plays, guy? Okay, we all talk about you think about Kade and JD. What comes to mind? Aliu, right? You think about JD and Assar, what comes to mind? Right. Back door, cut to the hoop, pass for Assar. You think about what comes to mind. We think about Kade and Bees, right? Bees off the screen, Kade finding him for like you think about signature plays when you think about duos. How many signature plays can you guys recall of Jaden Ivy and Sar Thompson, right? You know why? Because they have not played together. So, I’m only giving Assar pass for that reason. I’m not saying he doesn’t look like he’s struggling because he does. Even as far as a confidence standpoint, he looks like he’s struggling. He looks like he’s in his head. is thinking too much. But I’m still going to give him a pass because we have not seen the true ball handlers, the true creators on this team. I think right now with Assar, it’s more so them giving him the opportunity to try to do things that he may have worked on to see if in a pinch when they need it. Can he give us something? But I don’t think it’s going to be something they look to go to consistently game over game over game over game. That’s going to be Jaden. That’s going to be Asar. I’m sorry. That’s going to be Jaden. That’s going to be Cade. And I think that’s when Assar is gonna be when he’s at his best as far as playing off ball, right? So I don’t want to see too many reps hopefully this season of Assar bringing the ball up when Jaden’s on the court, when K’s in the court, just don’t make sense, right? They’re guys on the on the court who are better than that at him the same way that he’s better at pretty much everybody else in the court defensively, right? So it’s all about putting them in the best position to be successful. And I don’t think that is the best position for him right now, considering he is turning the ball over and things like that right now. So, we’ll get to him more, but let’s let’s just hold off on that, but we’ll move on and um talk about him a little bit later. So, I’m I’m assuming this is about Assar. Uh let’s see. Hardway and bees the extra P. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. For sure. Yeah, we’re good with that. Assar is sucking himself out. I think so, too. He’s in his own head. He’s in his head. We’ll get to him in a little bit. Fast breaks will be scary. Most definitely. All right. Let’s keep going, guys. One more. Great point, Deuce. It makes the lack of preseason reps a bit. Right. Right. Because it’s like that’s what preseason is for, right? is for you. It’s for you to get comfortable. It’s for guys like Carver to get comfortable with Kade to get comfortable with Ji playing off off both of those guys playing on ball with those guys, right? So, I really wanted to see more of those guys, the guys who haven’t played a lot or played enough together to play together. So, once again, that’s a little disappointing, but hopefully by the time we get to game four, which is this Thursday against the Wizards, we’ll see our rotation for at least one game. That’ll help. All right, let’s keep moving, guys. Let’s now go to Assar. We talked about it a little bit, but now let’s go ahead in depth and talk about Assar Thompson’s game. So, tonight guys had nine points on four for seven shooting, one of five from the free throw line, five boards, four assists, one steal, one block, two turnovers in 24 minutes. So, a lot of time I say the box score isn’t indicative of play. And I usually mean that in a way of they played better than the box score. I kind of going to go the opposite way this game because Assad only had two turnovers, but he had a bunch of near turnovers, right? Tip tip balls that um Jaylen Gurn or Paul Reed or a Stew was going up and just getting when they shouldn’t have been able to get to it, right? But he made a lot of errant passes tonight. He just didn’t look comfortable. He was really he was really hot and cold in this game. He’s kind of been hot and cold not not even just preseason, but even last year times he was hot and cold up and down up and down. Right. First play of the game, for example, first play of the game, he got a steal and immediately turned the ball right over and gave it right back to the Cavs for a score on the break. Right? So that’s that’s what I mean when I say hot and cold. That’s what I mean when I say up and down. That’s what I mean when I say not steady. That’s what I mean when I say Tasmanian Thompson. That’s exactly what I mean. Um, he doesn’t have a lot of confidence in his jump shot right now, guys. The confidence for whatever reason is just not there. He’s just not he’s just not taking it. I don’t know if it’s if it’s because he’s being so left wide open. If that’s affecting his confidence in the moment, like, man, they still don’t think I can shoot this thing. I don’t know if it’s I don’t know what it is, but he passed up some open shots. Instead of just shooting the ball, he decided to once again, like we saw last year, barreling his way to the hoop, right? getting offensive getting caught for offensive fouls. That was a lot of we saw last year. And so once again, he just doesn’t look comfortable. He doesn’t look comfortable. And I of course he hasn’t had a lot of reps. We know he missed a lot of time last year. Um but I have not seen a lot of improvement for him from him on that end yet. But once again, I’m going to give him the pass because he has not played with, you know, the other guys on his team who are going to be doing the things that he was doing tonight, right? So hopefully we don’t see too much of that in the regular season. Hopefully we won’t need to see that. But he he definitely does not look very confident right now. And one more thing on him as far as offensively. Um I like I we said it before I I his handle and his vision for me right now isn’t consistently good enough to run the offense, right? I want to see him playing off ball. I want to see him playing off ball, moving without the ball, cutting without the ball. Right? Too many times when he has the ball as the initial creator, when he’s bringing the ball up court and trying to initiate offense, it results in turnovers or results in bad shots or results in offensive fouls. If he’s on the break, I’m cool with that. Give it to him. Let him go, right? But other than that, I’d rather not see him trying to run the offense and orchestrate the offense. Like I said, it could just be an experiment to see exactly where he is in that progression. And maybe they’re seeing that he’s not quite there yet, right? And maybe by the time we get to the regular season, that’ll be things we go to in a pinch. If K’s in foul trouble, if Assar’s or if Caris is in foul trouble, if Jaden’s in foul trouble, right? Maybe then when you have to you go to something like that, maybe. And that’s that’s what I’m hoping we see. Uh TZ says he he foul he fouled out in the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter. He fouled out very early in that fourth quarter. Let’s get to that. We talked about him defensively. Um let’s let’s start with some good let’s go to some good stuff too cuz he did make some good plays in this game. Um he had a nice help side block but then once again he picked up a bad foul on the perimeter right get like just bad fouls and that’s one thing Eric Benson talked about a lot was you know picking guys up 94 ft every time getting back not every time but picking them up getting too aggressive picking up bad fouls. Um on one play he gave up a four-point play right he got caught in the air came down went back up again. It wasn’t like he got caught in the air and got and he got bumped as he was coming down where the guy threw himself into him. He jumped on the pump fake, closing out too hard, jumped, came back down, and he still fouled him. He jumped at him again and and fouled him again. Four-point play. You can’t do that. You can’t do that. If you don’t get caught in the air, you can’t foul them because you already should have got caught for the foul, right? So, to see that was a little bit discouraging. And one more thing, this is a this is a little thing, but it just goes to the mindset. after he gave up that four-point play to Dean Wade. It was I believe Dean Wade fell to the ground helped him up. Man, I ain’t helping nobody up after no four-point play. I’m not doing that. Like, and it’s funny because I remember Isaiah Stewart maybe last year, year before when Assar would do that, Stew would knock his hand away. Like, no, you don’t do that. I don’t want to I don’t want to see that. Like, I don’t want to see especially after a four-point play that I just gave up. I’m not helping you up, bro. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just old school and I know it’s still preseason, but the Pistons are a team that wants to set a tone early, guys. We want to set that tone early in the game. This is not going to be easy game. You’re not going to be comfortable, and I don’t think things like that really encourage that. That’s not dog pile to me, right? But like I mentioned, he did make some nice plays defensively. Um, you know, he did turn over Donovan Mitchell as soon as he crossed half court, got a strip, right? So, he did make some good plays, but like we mentioned, by the time we got to the fourth quarter, I think it was 10 minutes left, he fouled out. Too many bad fouls, too many overaggressive fouls, not playing smart, discipline defense, right? Trying to get the home run too often, thinking he’s so good of a defender. I can take it every time, right? And you just can’t. You just can’t. That’s how you get called for fouls. So, it’s just the consistency, guys. I still am very high on Asar Thompson, but we just got to see the consistency. We got to see that from him. And I think once again, it’ll come with time, but it’s something we definitely have to see. We got to see some level of consistency from him. Whether it’s at the free throw line, whether it’s not fouling, you know, taking bad fouls, we just got to see that defensive play, that reliable play that we can rely on night in night out, cuz once you get to the playoffs, you got to be consistent with how you play. You got to be that’s that’s one of the hallmarks of being able to win series is be is staying to who you are and playing your brand of basketball as much as you can. And how much can you limit the mistakes of shooting yourself in the foot? How much can you limit hurting yourself? Right? So, those are the things I’m looking for from Asar Thompson this year. Let’s get to some comments and let’s keep going. 105 from the free throw line is a solid indication that shot is broken right now. I I can’t really argue that. I can’t really argue that. Like with the I appreciate you guys appreci Hey, listen man. I appreciate you guys being here talking with me about this Pistons game. You guys have great comments, great thoughts that maybe I didn’t even think about. So, keep the comments coming. I’m going to get to as many as I can and I appreciate you guys, man, as always. All right, let’s get to a few more comments in this game or with Assara and then we will keep it moving. All right, Philip Phillip says, “Let Thompson be. He’s doing new things that he never did before. The things that he’s supposed to do, he does. However, adding new things is only a benefit. Preseason is perfect time to and that’s kind of what I’m hoping, Philip. I’m hoping this is just to get him reps so that way when we need it in the pinch, he can look back to these games and be able to kind of fall back. And not just these games, but even in the regular season, if it’s a blowout, if we’re up, let him go, right? Get him as many reps as possible in situations to where it’s not really affecting the outcome to where he can still get comfortable. I think as many reps, regardless of when it is, what point in the game it is, I think that’ll help him for sure. Let’s go to a few more comments, guys. I’m trying to get as many as I can. We’ll move on. Vulture says, “Agree he needs more time.” Organic Assar still needs to work on what he’s good at, let alone losing confidence, being full-time point. Yes. Right. Exactly. Just focus on the things you’re good at for now. 100%. Cuz the things he’s good at, he’s really good at, right? We had three or four fouls on three-point shots in the first eight minutes of the game. I didn’t even realize that. That was a good point. Good point. Wow. Yeah, that’s that’s that’s no good. Got to be more disciplined, man. For sure. Heisenberg, what’s going on, bro? I can live with the Sar not being able to hit from outside, but his free throw shooting needs to at least be in this. Yes. Yes. Heisenberg, we talked about that. I believe you were here. We talked about that with Eric Vincent. Once again, Eric be dropping gems, guys. Top title Detroit. Go follow him after this video. But Eric said when it comes to wings in general, right? Small forwards, guards, you got to be at least 70%. Anything unneath 70% is unacceptable. You got to in today’s NBA, you have to shoot at least 70% from the free throw line. And a guy like Assar who was able to get to the cup better than most because of his speed and athleticism, he’s going to be there often. He’s going to be there often. So giving away free points, missing more than you miss or making missing more than you make, that’s that’s going to hurt your team cuz now you’re just giving points away, giving possessions away, right? So you can’t do that. All right, so let’s go to let’s go to our next guy. Now let’s move on to who do we have next? Jaylen Dur. Let’s go to JD. So tonight guys, JD had eight points in his first action on three of six shooting, two from the free throw line, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, one turnover in 13 minutes. That’s a lot of work in 13 minutes. So listen, JD did not play a lot, right? 13 minutes is not a lot, but he looked good for the time he was out there. He looked good on one play, he went to the post and he showed some nice footwork, man, to get to his fadeaway jumper. I think it was over Jarro Allen. Nice fadeaway jumper. He got two feet in the paint. Bullied him a little bit, showed a little footwork, turned over his right shoulder, knocked it down, right? So, that’s nice to see. That’s something he’s going to eventually be able to work off of, right? Not yet. He’s not a go-to dump it down to him in the post like a Joel Embiid or a Joic or, you know, anything like that, right? But he’s definitely showing signs of growth in those areas. So, just seeing that he’s able to do it. It looked like he may have been working with a Rasheed for sure tonight. some of the things he was going to some of the footwork. You can see a little bit of Rasheed Wallace in there. We know that he did work sheet this offseason. So, it’s good to see him slowly adding more and more to his game on not getting away from who he is, right? And speaking of that, he was aggressive inside in the paint. He was aggressive. He was active, right? His effectiveness was limited though because we talked about it already. The Cavs have that two big lineup, man. They got trees in there. They got those towers. Jared Allen, Evan Moley. Those guys are 611 7 feet a piece, right? JD, whether he has grown or not, is not taller than both of those guys, right? Let’s say JD is 610, 611, right? They got two guys like that. JD is stronger than both of those guys, but he’s just one guy, right? So Tobias Harris is 6’8, right? He plays as big as he can. We saw that last year against the Knicks when he went up against Cat. He plays as big as he can, but he’s still 6’8, right? So he’s only going to be able to give you so much in the paint against those guys. So, that’s going to make things a little bit tougher for JD to battle with those guys, even with Tobias sticking his nose and he just doesn’t have the the size and the length that those guys do. So, that’s something I have my eye on as the season progresses because the Pistons are going to face other teams like that, especially in the East, right? You got teams like the Bucks, they got too big and they got like Giannis and they got all Turner, the Knicks, Mutual Robertson and Cat, right? So, we’re going to face a lot of that in the East this offse or this season and probably the playoffs. So, we’re going to need to at some point figure out a way to address that, right? But I also want to highlight JD’s effort because he did rebound the ball well. He did defend the rim well. All things we were asking for him the beginning of last year before he really turned it up a notch, right? And his effort, he was going after every loose ball, sprinting, trying to chase down every loose ball. He kept a few possessions alive actually, right? And one which led to a Dennis Jenkins three ball from 35 ft. So JD’s effort tonight is something that we didn’t see consistently the first half of the season. And he’s already off to a better start than he was last year just because between his ears, he’s got the mindset to have that consistent high motor every single night. We talked about it last year when he committed to his role. When he said, “Okay, I’m going to star in this role. I can do this, but I’m gonna do this. As I always say, right? I’m gonna focus on the things the team needs me to do, not all the things that I can do because there are other guys on the team who can do these things better, but not these things. So, let me focus on this. And once he did that, everything changed. And he’s continuing to show that this year because he’s still making the same kind of effort. He’s still making pitching the tent in the in the paint. He’s still trying to dominate the glass, be that enforcer. So, it’s good to see that he still has carried that mindset over into this season. And I’m expecting good things from him this year for sure. Comments. Let’s see what we got. I hope JD can stay locked in from the get 100%. 100% from the get-go. It was too rough at the guys. I’m literally like I’m as I’m clicking on these comments is what I’m seeing them. I promise you I’m not cherry picking off y’all. It’s just so funny to see you guys saying the same thing as I’m saying it because it understand. It shows me you understand what you’re looking at which is a good thing for sure. He’s just getting his legs under him. Solid game from Duran says Detroit Drew. I agree. organically says JD cross somebody at half court. His handles is Blake Griffin. I saw that too. I I won’t say I won’t say Blake Griffinish. Blake Griffin had I won’t say guard skills, but it weren’t many big too many big men in the league that could handle the ball like he did at the time he was playing. Right. I won’t say he was Lamar Odum as far as with the basketball, but he was he was good. He was I would give him the edge over JD as far as handling the basketball cuz one thing about Blake on the break, he didn’t turn it over when he’s pushing when he’s boarding and pushing. He didn’t turn it over. He wasn’t going the other way. It was either a score or a miss, right? So, but I do I have to give you um that JD has improved with his ball handling. I forgot who it was. He crossed over, but I remember that play. I think that ended up being an open uh he dished it off to Bobby Clement for a dunk, right? Was it Clipman? I think it was Clipman for a dunk. So, that was nice. That was nice crossover and got rid of it. Found an outlet and got the score. So, JD is slowly getting better at the ripe old age of 21. Let’s not forget he’s 21 years old, guys. He’s got a long way to go in his progression in being the guy that we need him to be for a championship level team, but he is on his way for sure. Heisenberg says, “Allan looks like he got a little bit bigger in the offseason. Looks like he got a little bigger. Maybe a lot of guys got bigger. Looks like organic says Clement and Durham minutes were incredibly intrigued.” I agree. That inside outside game, bro. I agree with you on that for sure. And Bobby has shown more defensively. We’re going to get to him, but for sure. Can we actually be better than last year? I think so. I think so. It’s gonna come down to the internal growth. How many how much these guys can progress internally, the young guys with Cade and Jaden and Assar and JD and Ron and Stu, right? How can those core six, I call them the sinister six, right? How can the Sinister six progress with each other individually and collectively? that and then how are the guys that we just got the supplemental guys the Caris reverts the Duncan Robinsons of the world right how are those guys going to supplement and replace what went out the door in Dennis Shruder and Tim Hardway Jr. right? And Malik Beasley, that’s going to be the key. Those two things are what’s going to determine if we can actually be better than we were last year. So, I think I’m banking on the internal growth. I know guys like Assar are struggling, but once again, we haven’t seen with the other guys. I’m banking on the internal growth offsetting whatever is lacking from the replacements on the bench. So, let’s say we get 80% of the bench production that we got compared to last year. I think that’s enough because I think the internal growth, the growth of Kade ascension, ascending, K or Jaden ascending, Assar eventually raising his level of play consistently, JD ascending, I think that is going to be able to offset the 20% that we’re not getting from the guys who came in to replace the guys that went out the door. I hope that makes sense, but I’m banking on that. And I think that’s the only way though, Philillip, that we can have a better year this year than we did last year. So, we’ll see. We’ll see. Organic said Blake Cat straight up. He would be patting that ball, bro. He be patting that thing. But he took care of it. He took care of it, man. Playing point forward a lot of time for this team. MVP level all NBA level season when he was here. All right, a few more comments and we’ll get going. I agree. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Vultress is agree. Y’all know y’all know what’s up, man. Bey home. Hopefully, he comes back home. I hope so. Hope so. Regular season can’t get here fast enough. You ain’t lying, bro. Beasley is miss. I’m hoping it’s not too much and if it is, I hope he comes back. We’ll leave it at that. But I hope so. He’s been hinting at saying he’s going to be back soon to play NBA basketball. He’s been saying that. He’s even been told to kind of pull back on telling everybody about that by his lawyer because they’re like, “Let’s just let it play out. Let it play out, right?” So, he was encouraged to let it play out and he’s going to do that. But, he has he seems to have that I told you so moxy about him as far as I told y’all I’ll be back cuz he said he’s going to be back soon for this season. So, we’ll see. Those are his words. Go look up his IG story. You can find it on YouTube somewhere. That’s what he said. Go check it out. Hopefully, we get him back. We’ll see. All right, let’s move on, guys. Let’s go now to our reserves. We’ll try to pick it up a little bit, otherwise we’ll be here all night. Right. All right, let’s start with Ron Leuron Dog Pound Jr. Holland. Right. So, tonight Ron guys had 11 points on three to 10 shooting, one on three from three, four or five from the free throw line, four boards, two assists, one steal, one block, four turnovers in 21 minutes. So Ryan did not shoot it well tonight. Three and 10. He didn’t shoot it well. Had a few shots that he could have made. Just didn’t fall for him, which is okay. Happens sometimes. Knocked down a three. He shot 30% tonight. I’m okay with that. I’m okay with that. Um yeah, his shot looks much improved. His shot, he just looks so much more comfortable shooting the ball now. Man, he’s a dog. He Ryan Holland’s a dog. Who saw that pullback dunk? I know y’all saw that. I love how he plays, man. He plays angry. Ryan Holland plays angry. I love how he plays. He’s getting up in the guys. As soon as they catch the ball, he is in their face. They can feel him breathing like he’s right on top of them. I love it. I love the way he plays. I love the way he attacks the game. The way he attacks the game on both sides of the ball. I absolutely love it. He wasn’t perfect tonight. He didn’t even shoot it great tonight, but the impact was there. Right. He came into this game and immediately immediately made an impact. Corner three, right? Then he got to the hoop for a nice floater and and N1 N1 floater in his in the N1. It was nice. It was nice, man. He looked He just looks so confident now. Jump shot looks so much smoother. Confidence at an all-time high now, right? It looks like game over game. He’s getting more and more confidence. I love it. And he showed his ability again to get downhill and draw contact. And when he got to the line, he knocked down his free throws, right? Four and five tonight. That’s that shows you that he is gaining more confidence in the shot right across the board. So 100% man. I love what I’m seeing from Ron Holland. He’s growing and growing and growing and he’s still so young. Still so young man. And his off ball activity guys. His activity made a huge difference, right? Look no further than his putback slam we talked about, right? Just staying active. Just staying ready, staying active, crashing the glass, playing big. Just just playing good basketball, man. So, the improvement in this game, guys, is evident already. I think he’s going to have a very good secondyear campaign for sure. All right, let’s get to a few comments and let’s keep it moving. Organic says, “Ron was really good. Him and Stu carried a good part of the Yes, they did. They They got us into the game in that second quarter, right? As soon as they came in, they got us into the game for sure.” Drew Thomas says, “Loved Ryan ever since I saw him play in the first preseason game against the Bucks last year. always brings. Yeah, it didn’t take long for everybody to see that Ron Holland is a good basketball player. As raw as he was, you just saw he found ways to impact the game. He plays winning basketball. He doesn’t play perfect basketball. He makes mistakes, but he plays the right way. He plays winning basketball. So, that’s one thing we can say about him, and he’s just going to continue to get better at it. All right, let’s one more. Terrace says, “Remember, we weren’t happy with TSJ and Tobias at the beginning of last season. The team just needs to establish a rhythm with the new guys. 100 per center. Do you guys remember the lack of excitement we had when we added Malik Beasy to this team? Right. I’m mentioning the same the same with THJ. There wasn’t a ton of but I’m but I’m using Bees because of how impactful and how much of a mark he made even in his absence. Right. The way people feel about Duncan Robinson right now was the way people thought about Malik Beasley when he came here last year. Ho h. Oh, cool. We got bees. That’s he’s good shooter. Not down shooter with the Bucks, right? Or was it the Timberwolves? That was how we were. That was the thought pro. It wasn’t like, oh, he’s going to come in and change change everything for that second unit. We’re going to we got to we got to make sure we bring him back. It was it wasn’t that at all. It wasn’t that at all. At all. A lot of people didn’t even like him coming here. They thought he was onedimensional and and and let’s just say he was. What did that do for us last year? He he he’s not onedimensional. He can’t put the ball. He can do other things, but he’s a shooter, but we saw what being a shooter, a consistent volume shooter can do for your team. So, that’s not to say that Duncan Robinson is going to be better than Bees was last year. I’m not saying that. All I’m saying is Tara makes a good point. It takes time, right? We have to see enough reps with these guys playing together in order for them to establish a rhythm so they can get consistent, so they can get into the role. And so they’re not thinking about it. It’s just knee-jerk. It’s muscle memory. And when they get there, that’s going to build their confidence. And that’s when you’ll see them at their truest form. Not going to happen game through the preseason. But that’s why I wanted to see the reps. That’s why I wanted to see Caris Burke tonight, right? Because the reps are important as anything else, 100%. Detroit Drew says, “I’ll take anything after dealing with the ghost of Joe Harris and Alec Burst.” Oh my god. Oh my god, man. You took me back with that, bro. That was tough to watch. That was tough to watch. Detroit Drew, man. But I’m glad that once again, we got guys on this team that like have actually have an impact on this on this team. Terra, we want Right. We wanted Tobias gone, right? Tobias can’t hit a corner three. I was guilty. I wasn’t saying I wanted I didn’t want him gone, but I was saying Tobias, can you hit a corner three, baby? Please give me one. Just give me one. and he couldn’t knock it down for the longest right until the second half of the season. He wasn’t scoring a lot. He had a lot of games early. He was like eight points, eight points, eight rebounds, you know what I mean? 10 points, four rebounds, six points. Like he had that early. He didn’t know what he was, he was still learning what he needed to be for this team, right? He was understanding how big what’s on my plate. Okay, I don’t want to step on toe. Okay, am I doing this? Okay, and eventually he got into a rhythm. He he found out he understood his teammates. He understood the offense and wouldn’t need it and he was able to start giving more and once he got comfortable he did it at a consistent level. It’s the same thing all over again. Reps, reps, reps. Time, time, time. So Tara, you make a great point about all three of those guys and now all three of those guys we saw last year were very impactful for this team. All right, couple more guys and we’ll keep it moving. I think it’ll take about 10 to 12 games before Duncan and Caris find their stride with this team right there. Heisenberg, you hit it on the head, bro. You hit on the head. All right, let’s go ahead, guys, and keep it moving. Um, I could go all night with you guys. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep going. All right, so now guys, let’s move on to Isaiah Dogpound Stew. All right, so Isaiah Stewart finished, guys, with six points, two five shooting, all one from three, two for three from the free throw line, two steals, two blocks, two turnovers, and immediately 11 minutes. So, he still also didn’t play a lot of minutes tonight, but once again, he was impactful as always. First of all, why does everybody still keep trying to dunk on Steu? Have they not learned anything from last year? Tonight, once again, another poster block for Steu. This time on Jared Allen. He was a victim. It’s funny because two plays later, Evan Mobley had an opportunity to challenge Stu. He caught the ball. Top of the key. Wasn’t nobody there but Stu. And he and Stu was actually out of position the moment that Moy caught the ball. Moby thought about it, but he he saw what had just happened to Jared Allen a couple plays earlier and he said, “Nah, I’m good, bro.” He dished it off to the corner. It was funny to see it cuz you saw him in that split second think about it and then say, “Nah, I ain’t doing that. I ain’t doing that.” So, it’s just funny, man. still once it’s like over and over again they keep challenging him and eventually it’s going to get to a point where more and more people are acting like Evan Mobley and less like Jared Allen. So we’ll leave it at that. But he came into the game man and immediately got that got a a nice block on a tall taller longer Evan Mobley fadeaway. He tried to fade on him right Evan Moy is probably a couple inches taller probably got a little bit longer of a wingspan probably jumps just as high. Stew got up and put it right back to his face. still was incredible defensively, man. His physicality tonight changed the tone of the game. Surprise there, right? Um he came in and was very disruptive. Very disruptive. Blocking shots, holding them in one possession, finishing possession, right? Breaking up lobs at the rim like he always does. Just doing a little bit of everything defensively that we have known I said to do, right? So, it’s going to be a continued growth with him offensively now because now we see him not just picking up where he left off defensively, but now we see a little bit more footwork with Steu. Now, we see him um you know sitting sitting down in the chair under the rim calling for the ball so he can make a nice little move and go over his left shoulder for a hook. Knock him down that three ball. So, he’s adding more and more to his game year over year over year and he’s getting closer and closer to that ceiling as he can possibly get. He is squeezing all of that ability that he can possibly get out of that orange. His ceiling may not be as high as as other guys, but he may end up being better than other guys cuz he gets higher to his ceiling than they do. Year over year, he’s getting better and better and better. Adding this, adding that. That’s Stewart. So, we have nothing to worry about when it comes to him decision for sure. All right, let’s get to a few comments on Steu and we’ll get to about four or five more guys and then we’ll call it a night. All right, so Detroit Drew says Moy made that. Yes, he did. Business decision. Y’all saw that. Y’all saw that for sure. Another instance where stats are misleading. Steu’s impact was undeniable. You saw what I saw. Organic for sure. Moy didn’t want anything to do with Steu. He did not. Every time he went in the paint, he was getting by. Yeah, they’re they’re not strong enough. That’s the thing. And I was I was asking myself. I actually tweeted this earlier. When I watch Tobias and JD go up against Jared Allen and Evan Mobley, I’m kind of like, man, just don’t let’s just start stew this game. Let’s play. Let’s match fire. Let’s fight fire with fire. I feel like JD and Stew on both ends of the court will be able to neutralize a lot of what Evan Moy and Jerry Allen do cuz neither one of those guys are offensive juggernauts. They’re both solid defensively mo defensively. They’re both top tier. Let’s just be real defensively, right? But they’re not going to dominate the boards because they’re not going to out physical JD. They’re not going to out physical Stew. Neither one of those Twin Towers in Cleveland are as strong as either of JD or Stu. Neither one of them. So, they’re not going to official them. So, in games like that, I’m like, man, can we just start Stew and you know what I mean? And go to property off the bench cuz it was hard to watch just JD kind of battling by himself with those two guys cuz Tobias just isn’t big enough at 68, you know? So, that was my only thing with that. Um, but yeah, but aside from that, man, Isaiah Stewart is doing Isaiah Stewart things, per usual. All right, let’s go to Javvante Green, guys. Javvante Green tonight had six points on three of seven shooting, four boards, one assist, one steal, one block, one turnover in 19 minutes. Another impact player. I said earlier this year, guys, when we first got him, I said, “Don’t sleep on Javvante Green.” I said, “Don’t sleep on him. This dude is a little bit underrated. I think he’s in his 30s. I think he’s 31, 32. But he’s still got athleticism like he’s 26, 27. He still is very quick. He’s got good lateral movement. He can guard guard. He was guarding Donovan Mitchell at times tonight, bodying him, staying in front, not fouling, right? Just playing really solid defensively. He’s still got bunnies, too. He can get on a break. He can finish with either hand. He will dunk on you if you’re not careful. He’s got a crazy vert even still, right? And more importantly, just the defense and the toughness. We talked about Stew and his physicality bothering the big men, bothering Moley and Jerry Allen. So did Javvante Green. He’s not nearly as tall as those guys, but his physicality a lot like Steu. Not quite as much, but a lot like Steu, using the physicality to get up into those guys ribs, right? To make sure that they’re not taking advantage of their length, but using their physicality, your physicality to neutralize that. And he understands how to do that. He was also able to get in the break and turn turnovers and get turnovers, create easy offense out of it. So, I mean, Javvonte Green may be more of a factor this year than maybe we thought, but he definitely was a good get and he showed some some good things tonight for sure. He’s got some He got bunnies, right? He’s definitely showed that already. Already. Organic says he would be a starter somewhere in the league if he was 3 in taller, right? I think what is he 66? He’s 66. If he was 6’9, 68, even 6’8, he’d be a starter somewhere. I agree with cuz he can shoot the ball, too. Do not leave him open. He will kill you if you leave him open. So, I like what I saw from Javvante Green. I don’t want to call him a death piece, but he’s somebody you can go to in the pinch for sure or go to when there’s foul trouble for sure and really not skip a beat, especially defensively. So, I like I like Javvante Green on this team for sure. All right, guys. Let’s go to Bball Paul tonight. Tonight, part where you guys had three points on one of four shooting, 02 from three, one from the free throw line, three boards, one assist, one turnover in 11 minutes. So, it was up and down two for Paul Reed, right? It was up and down. He didn’t play to be fair until the second half. He didn’t play all in the first half. So, he came in cold in the second half and you could see it. You could see it early. To start, he was a little bit aggressive, right? He was gambling on steals, trying to get steals, gambling on steals on inbound plays. On one got a bad foul right at half court. He fouled Jared Allen tried to go for a steal. This is a little bit overzealous and then he had a bad outlet pass after he grabbed the board. Had a bad outlet pass to the buy for a turnover, right? Errant pass, right? So you can see he was a little bit just overzealous, a little bit anxious, right? But when he settled in, he really got to who he was cleaning the glass, right? Forcing the cast, big men into tough shots, which he did. He’s very athletic for his size, right? He’s deceptively quick. So I think he affected those guys. Even even Jared Allen and Moy, both of those guys were affected by him being out there because he’s athlet he’s tall enough to be a problem because he’s also athletic and he’s strong. He’s gotten stronger over the summer. You can see he’s bulkier. He’s bigger now and he I think he had a nice lefty Yeah, he had a nice lefty scoop at the rim with his left hand after being set up by Dennis Jenkins on the break. Penetration the pass. So, he showed some things. He’s his finishing has gotten better. I think the last I think every game he’s had a nice tough finish at the rim and one if I if I’m recalling correctly, but his finishing has gotten better and I think once again it’s cuz he’s gotten stronger and being able to finish through that contact is was definitely on display. So I mentioned it before, but I think he’s going to play a role for this team um when the Pistons need to go to the bench for sure. All right, let’s go to Bobby Clement, guys. Bobby Clement tonight had four points on two or four shooting, all two from three, one rebound, two assists, three turnovers in 14 minutes. So once again, Bobby didn’t play as great as game, but he didn’t play a lot either, right? I think once again, the box score isn’t always indicative of how a guy plays. And if you guys watch his game tonight, you guys can let me know what you think. But I think that was the case with him tonight as well, because he also came into this game immediately and made an impact. His playmaking was on display. He had a nice loud to JD out of the pick and roll. He can play out of the pick and roll. He can play that point forward role if you need him to. We also talk about Assar doing it right. I want to see Bobby doing more of that, right? We know what he can do. We know he can knock down open shots. He didn’t shoot well tonight over two, but he can knock it down. We know that he’s a good creator, secondary creator, right? When he catches the ball wide open and team’s closed out and he’s pump fake and can get into the hoop. When he gets into the paint, he’s a good decision maker once he gets there, right? So, I want to see him doing a little bit more of that. Um, he got out in the break for a nice run out dunk. That was the one that organic was talking about when um JD grabbed the rebound and crossed over. I think it was Jared Allen. Up ahead in the break was Bobby Clipman for a nice dunk. So, that happened. Um, but for me guys with Bobby tonight, what stood out the most was defense. Defense. His effort defensively is something I’ve wanted to see him improve on. And it’s just really a mentality thing. And I think tonight he’s he’s made he’s the last few games he’s made strides just playing tougher. Just playing tougher. He’s got more of a finesse game offensively, but he’s got a nice he’s got a nice frame at 610. Pretty good wingspan. And now he’s starting to see that defensively he can be impactful for this team. He was not afraid also to give his body up. He was taking charges in the paint, right? Things you don’t usually see from him. So, it looks like he is even more so buying in to what he’s going to need to do on the defensive end in order for this team to be successful, right? And tonight, we saw more of that. So, he’s showing more and more what he can do when given the opportunity. Didn’t play a ton, right? Other guys played more minutes tonight, but I definitely saw some strides from him defensively, and that’s what I was looking to see for sure. So, I was I was happy with what I saw. It wasn’t perfect once again, but in 14 minutes, you’re not going to do too too much, but what I saw from him was good enough in this game. All right. Zion says, “Bobby needs to trust his shot a little bit more. He can shoot over most players.” Yeah, he can. He can. That’s going to come with time, bro. That’s going to come come with time. I definitely I’m not worried about that at all to be honest. I’ve I’ve seen enough from him over the last two years to have confidence that when he’s playing with the backup unit and it’s there and he has enough opportunity, he’s going to knock those down and he’s going to make nice secondary plays out of it when that’s not there. So, I’m not I’m not concerned with him at all. Organic says, “I wish Bobby played a little bit more, especially against Moy.” Me, too. Me, too. Heisenberg. I thought Bobby looked very active and aggressive while he’s out there. Yes, he did. He did. He was just trying to make the right play, whatever that is. It’s not always scoring. If the shot’s there, take it. If the pass is there, you make it, right? He’s just trying to He doesn’t The ball doesn’t stick with him. You don’t see him getting caught in the air. Think about this. How many times do we see guy I won’t say who, but guys last year off our bench trying to go to the hoop, getting caught in the air, trying to make a pass, and turning it over, right? because since he wasn’t able to get by his guy, nobody else needed to come to help. So therefore, nobody’s open on the pass. That would happen so often last year. We saw that. But with him, with Bobby, we don’t see that. He’s not making errant passes when he’s catching the ball off the catch and the closeouts are coming and he’s getting caught in the air. You’re not seeing that with him. He’s making the right decision when he gets the basketball. That’s the key. He’s not hurting your team when he’s out there. That’s the key and that’s what you want to see. So, with more time, more reps, he’s only going to get better. It’s all I’m saying. All right, let’s keep going, guys. Bobby getting preseason point guard reps will be low-key f. You get it. You get it. You get it. And Terry, you get it, too. He just needs the reps. That’s literally it. All right, guys. Let’s go. Oh, one more thing before I move on from him. That’s actually what Coach Bickerstaff said the other day. He said Bobby Quintman can do a lot of different things. He said he can do a lot of things to help his teammates. He said it’s all about He said the skill set is there. He said it’s all about reps and it’s all about getting the opportunity. He said and it’s on me and the coaching staff. It’s our job to get him that opportunity. So that’s why, like I said a couple years ago, same thing with Dennis Jenkins that I thought this guy was going to have a role in this basketball team. And it looks like these guys are going to be spending more time with the Pistons than the Crews this year. So we’ll see how it plays out. All right, guys. Let’s move on to Tou Smith. So my guy Tou Smith tonight guys had six points, three or four shooting 02 from the free throw line. Come on Tulos four rebounds, one steal and 13 minutes and one foul as well. So guys, we got a Tou Smith sighting in the third quarter late in the third quarter. We saw Ball Paul early in the third. We saw Tou late in the third. I think it was a minute left that he came into the game. Let me start with this. Total Smith guys is 6’11. 6’11 and he’s got a 7 foot three wingspan. He is the biggest guy on this team. And against a team like the Cavs, you need that. And tonight, his height, his size, and his length, it bothered Jared Allen and it bothered Evan Mobley. Both of them. He played big tonight. They weren’t able to dominate the glass when he was in the game. Total Smith may be a full-time Piston now this season, guys. The same with Dennis Jenkins, the same way with Bobby Clemen. The three guys I talked about, I know I keep saying it, but I talked about those three guys specifically, guys, a year and a half ago. So, it’s just nice to see those guys kind of taking advantage of their opportunities and showing what they can do. But back to Tou, he played big tonight, man. And he he’s a guy that may not play every night, right? But in matchups like this that feature those two big lineups when things like foul trouble can play a factor, he’s going to be needed. He is going to be needed. Just his sheer size and strength alone is going to be needed. Right. So I thought he played very very well. Let’s get to a couple comments. Um Sean says, “Prove me wrong, Tou.” Uh Terra says, “Tloo was a dog. 100%.” Heisenberg says, “I thought Tulu played very solid tonight. I was impressed how he held his own with their Exactly.” Exactly. And those are starter bigs, right? Those are two starters. One was allstar, right? One’s defensive player of the year. So, definitely we’re we’re seeing some things from these guys, right? Early early. They still are just kind of getting their feet wet in the NBA. So, you see the potential is there. And with him, um, you definitely saw his ability to really be able to just kind of make his presence felt. Make his presence felt. That’s all you want to see. Make your presence felt. Protect the P, protect the paint, right? Rebound the basketball, clean the glass, be a nice roll threat, right? Which he is set good screens, which he does, make himself available, create extra possessions. All the little things that big men need to do is what he’s focusing on. The things that we have a need for, he’s bringing that. That’s why I think he’s going to have a role for this team. Maybe not every night, but they’re going to be games when he is needed. One more thing before I move on. I wanted to get back to Bobby Kumman for a second, guys, is this. I know a lot of people have a lot of expectation for him. I know part of it is because of what you know the praise that I’ve given him and things that I’ve seen. Um I think his role because somebody asked me this earlier. I think Bobby Clement’s role is going to be specifically the backup power forward spot, right? I know that the Pistons are not focusing on pitching hauling guys in certain spots. Um I just think backup power forward is the only place you can really play him right now. I don’t think he’s bigger big and strong enough to guard fives right now at 610. Not yet. He’s still got a he still got a girl into his body. But I also don’t think that he’s quite quick enough to stay in front of threes. So to me, four makes the most sense for him. He could pro look he could prove me wrong. I wouldn’t mind it all if he did. I just think he’s best slided at the back of four for now. I could see him getting anywhere, I don’t know, between 10 to 15 minutes a game, right? Depending on the matchup and situation. But once again, you basically want him to overtake the role that was left behind by Simone Pekio. That’s all you want him to do. He can do more, but if he can bring those things, knocking down shots, moving the basketball, moving out the basketball, playing solid defense, you can live with that for sure. And then if he can give you other things like secondary playmaking, which Ponteo really couldn’t do, you got a good situation. So, I wanted to say that because somebody asked me specifically before the show about where I saw him and that’s where I see him and that’s where I see a path for him for Bobby. But once again, Total Smith played solid tonight, man. Good game from Total. He played the way we need him to play for this team. Being the biggest guy on this team, the tallest guy on this team, he he played the way we need him to play and he’s showing signs that he can be more impactful than many think. So, that’s all I got for this game tonight, guys. Any more comments to hear? We got Let’s see. We need Tou. We need Tou. We have a roster with only one man over 69. Right. Right. JD would be the only guy at 610 611. So we need to have more size for sure. 100%. If Lamar was in his right mind, I’d love for him to give Bobby some game. I’m not sure who Lamar Okay. Talk to me there, bro. Let me Oh, okay. Lamar ODM. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. I I can see a little bit of that. I can see a little bit of that. Like it’s funny because Bobby Clem, I’m not saying he is that guy, but he kind of has he’s kind of the prototype for what most Pistons fans have wanted as far as bringing in that stretch forward, right? Guys like Lorie Markin, right? A guy like Nas R who I mentioned last year. Guys like Santi Alama, Bobby Clinton kind of fits that role. I’m not saying he’s that level of player yet, but he’s the prototype, right? Stretch forward, can knock down shots, big big at the four position, 610, can playmake, right? can do many things for you, little things for you. I call him I call him um the Phoenix Suns Boris Dhaw, right? A guy who is not super athletic, but a guy who has a very high IQ, guy who can knock down shots, guy who can make plays for others, guy who can keep the offense moving, right? That’s what I see for Bobby Clemen 100%. Oh, you know what? My bad, organic, let’s get to Chaz. Let’s get to Chaz. I don’t have any notes for him, but let’s but let’s I’ll go off the chest. So tonight, Chaz O’Neer guys had two points on one of four shooting, all three from three, one assist, one steel in 18 minutes. So that’s probably why I didn’t have any notes on him. He didn’t play well tonight. He didn’t play well. Um it’s okay. He’s a rookie. It’s his first preseason, first NBA games, right? I’m not really too concerned about that. He had off night. He didn’t shoot the ball well. He kind of got lost in a few back doors defensively. He kind of like lost track of where his guy was. He He wasn’t The effort was there. you could just tell he’s a little bit lost and he just couldn’t catch a rhythm offensively. His shot just didn’t fall. So, you know, I’m not worried at all about Chazir. I think he’s a rookie, right? And he’s playing like one and not to say he’s playing bad. He just needs reps. Just needs time. Everybody’s not going to have a superstar game every game, right? So, he had a bad game. Didn’t shoot the ball well and it kind of affect him defensively. Okay, big deal. All right. All right, guys. Detroit Drew says, “At least Bobby can put the ball on the floor and not fumble it.” Like, yes, I was just saying that. See Trey Drew FK will catch it and he didn’t have a quick first step either. That’s the thing like Bobby like Bobby doesn’t have a quick first step either. But the decision making and being able to see the floor is the difference because Bobby when he puts the ball on the floor, right? He doesn’t jump up in the air and get caught in the air and everybody everybody is is defended because he wasn’t able to get past his guy. Therefore, there’s no breakdown defensively. There’s no double team defensively. Nobody’s coming to him and he would be caught in the air throw it away. Even though Bobby also doesn’t have a quick first step, he knows what to do with it when he gets into the paint. He has those point guard skills. He has the vision. He can see it before it happens, right? And that’s the difference. That’s why I’m looking forward to him taking those minutes because I think he’ll do a better job at what Fontekio was supposed to do than FCO did, right? So, we’ll see. Organic says, “Do a good call.” Yeah, you feel me? He was throwing up some knuckle knuckle balls at the rim. Who was that? Who was that? Oh, Chaz. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Chaz. Chaz will be all right. It Yeah, he’s a rookie. Yeah. No, nothing to worry about there. Nothing to worry about there. All right, guys. That is pretty much all I have for tonight. Um, anything I I missed, you guys make sure you throw it in the comments and let’s talk about that. By the way, guys, I’m not sure if you guys saw it tonight or saw it the last couple days, but the Pistons are releasing a documentary on Jaden Ivy’s road to recovery after his season ending ending injury last year. And from the looks of the trailer, it looks phenomenal. I’m not gonna lie to you. It looks really, really good. And I’m, y’all know me, man. I’m happy for Jay. Um, it’s really good to see him healthy. Good to see him smiling. Good to see him ready to go. You guys know, y’all know how I feel about Jay Navy, man. Man, that’s that’s my guy. Um, as as a player and a person, right? I couldn’t be more happy for him and his family, his father, Javin Hunter, shout out to him. His mother, Neil Ivy, shout out to her. Um, the whole family. Shout out to all of them, man. Um, but make sure you guys check out that documentary. Um, it drops this Friday, October 17th at 8:00 PM on YouTube. So, make sure you guys check that out. Yes, Tom. That is going to be epic, bro. It’s going to be epic. I can’t wait to see that. I cannot wait to see that for sure. Detroit Drew, yes, they have been cooking. They have been cheffing with these documentaries, man. Shout out to the Pistons admin team, production team. They have been on it this year. I think now that the team is getting better, they’re like, “Hey, now we it’s worth it to start putting this stuff out. it’s worth it to start putting more resources into this because this team is moving in the right direction and that was worth it, right? So, we’re gonna look back on these 10 year 15 years from now and be happy that we had these documented. So, shout out to the admin team for sure. J’s my guy, too. 100%. Yeah, for sure, man. Drew says, “Sounds great.” 100%. You already know. All right. So, guys, the Pistons final preseason game is this Thursday, October 16th, against the Washington. Oop, that’s the wrong one. My bad. against the Washington Wizards. So, if you guys are going to that game, um, let me know. It’s the Pistons only, um, home game of the preseason. I may be going to that game. I’m not 100% sure yet if I’ll be there. I should know in the next day or two if I will be there and then I will let you guys know and then you guys can let me know if you’re going and then we can link up. But I am going to be at the season home opener on the 26th against the Boston Celtics and I am going to be accompanied by a couple people. Boss is going to be in town for the home opener. Yes, my co-host Sarah Boss is going to be in town for the home opener. And also Tom, who you guys see in the chat, Korean Pistons fan, the number one Korean Pistons fan in the world is also going to be in town for that. So we’re all going to be sitting together. So you guys make sure you guys tap in and let us know where you guys are sitting so we can link up with you guys and meet everybody. It’s going to be a good time. I can’t wait for the season open. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Hopefully we can get a dub against our against those Celtics. I I hope I hope we blow them out. I hope we blow them out. I really do with no Tatum. I don’t care. Let’s Let’s Let’s make a statement and show them that this this ain’t your year. It’s not your year, bro. Let’s Let’s show them out the gate. That’s what I’m hoping for. 100%. Tom, you already know what’s up. Detroit Drew says, “I got my tickets for both them games.” Oh, yes, sir. So, let me know where you’re sitting, bro. Let’s meet at halftime or something for sure. Yeah, Tom’s gonna be there. Sarah’s gonna be there. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. Shout out to Tom. He’s He’s so excited about it, man. He’s already got his plans together. He’s got his itinerary together. It’s going to be a good time, man. It’s going to be a real good time. Shout out to Tom for sure. Looking forward to meeting you in person, bro. Great one, great one man tonight. Great oneman show tonight. Flo, bro. I needed her back, bro. Like, it’s Listen, man. Having to Having to do the comments at the same time is a lot. But I do it I do it for y’all, man. I do it for y’all for sure. Y’all know how we do. But when Boss comes back, you know, it’s going to be a little bit easier for your boy. It be it’ll be a lot more fun. So, we’ll leave it there, man. Drew said, “Okay, I’m I’m I’mma look you up, bro. For sure. Free Sarah. Free Sarah. I’m dead. I’m going to the first home games. I’m excited for Okay, let’s link up. Let’s link up for sure, guys.” All right. Like I said, that’s a wrap for the night, man. Um, the P piss if I can talk. The Pistons final preseason game is this Thursday, October 16th against the Washington Wizards and it is their only home game of the preseason like we said. So, looking forward to seeing you guys for sure, man. It’s going to be a great time. Um, and we’ll see you guys Thursday night, man. Postgame. Pistons hopefully get a win against the Wizards and we can talk about watching our rotation in full play together hopefully for the first time ever, which is still crazy. So, we’ll leave it there, guys. It’s been a great night. I appreciate all the comments. Um, you guys being here. It’s just great to have you guys here. Says, “Boss is a great I’m glad to hear that.” Yeah, you’re going to see a ton of her this year, man. It’s going to be a lot of fun having her here and her insight for sure. She really knows her basketball and she knows her Pistons basketball as well. She’s been a fan for about 20 something years, so it’s going to be a good time having her here. Be well to you guys as well, man. Yeah, man. So, I’ll see you guys Thursday night, man. Without further ado, I appreciate you guys hanging with your boy. And as always, Detroit verse everybody. Peace. I’m on my way up and I’m not going to stop. We headed straight to the top. And I know I got to waste it. I got no time to waste it. Waste no time with anything. again. We turn down

  1. No notes! Totally agree on Ausar's hesitation to shoot tonight. Hope that comes out Thursday. I want to see Ron's confidence rub off on him. We held our own without Cade and Ivey for the most part , and we can use this game as a learning experience going forward – and that's what preseason is all about! Awesome recap as always

  2. Hate to say it but I expected more from ausar. This point guard experiment can’t work because his handles still aren’t good enough. And you can’t take advantage of his size playing point because he can’t shoot free throws. It’s just preseason but it’s concerning bro

  3. Duren looking like c webb is facts wuth his movements and the way he runs. They trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with ausar being a ball handler , hes not a point guard. Jenkins looks like the real deal.
