Aaron Glenn: Justin Fields “took a step back” in his fifth game
42 comments
Took 55 yards worth of steps back.
I think this is because jets pr called him in to tell him he was getting slammed for his response.
Glenn had to watch the tape first before being able to recognize this
He is who we thought he is.
Been in the league for 4(?) years now. Dunno why anyone thought he’d make the leap this year.
Remember when Zach beat him?
Finally watched the tape and realized Fields was straight ass.
this coach obviously is just looking at stats cause how can he say he played well the first 4 games he played. he had 1 good game 2 borderline starter type games and 2 this guy needs to playing in the ufl type games. i’m quickly losing faith in this coach.
Titans just fired Callahan…. So here’s hoping
Nothing another great week of practice can’t fix.
No shit Sherlock
He is like a 5 year vet making big coin. There should be no such things as saying he took a step back. He is not some young developmental QB.
Part of the job is knowing what to say in the immediate aftermath of a tough loss, even though you probably can’t say what you are actually thinking. Saleh was cliche filled to the point that he sometimes didn’t sound human. AG needs to be less hostile — he comes across pretty badly in response to a reasonable question.
The only Jet who took a bigger step back yesterday: Aaron Glenn
Thanks Captain Obvious
It’s called returning to the norm.
In his fifth game of his fifth season on his third team. Cmon man
Step back honky cat
Remember too that the QB is playing for “the Jets” once he leaves and is picked up by another team he will be an all star! Lol. It’s not just skill, it’s coaches, it’s a team sport.
I guess he saw the tape
At least 10 yards back in passing
A step back? What a joke
(Corrected) – …”took a step back” in his fourth year in the NFL
“it’s year 5. he is who he is.”
Maybe he never actually took a step forward at all
You think?!
I’m shocked at how bad AG is. I think we have to fire him
Fire Glenn
He’s a veteran. He’s just not good
Aaron Glenn has taken the team 5 steps back.
Coming in peace as a Steelers fan, I was one of the guys hoping we could rehabilitate him. The answer isn’t even just that he’s bad at playing qb, the guy doesn’t like football. Plain and simple. Whatever love he might’ve had for the game stayed at Ohio state n the rest of it was beat out of him (pause) in Chicago. I was dialed into all his press conferences, interviews n social media. This guy only likes the money n lifestyle, nothing more. Players can sense that fast. He couldn’t even beat out 2024 Russell Wilson. That should’ve said A LOT by itself.
A step? More like an entire staircase.
He took a whole marathon back
And this isn’t a rookie – he has been in the league long enough and has had enough run as a starter for us to realize this is who he is. I think the biggest failing of the coaching staff is thinking they can get more out of players than other coaching staffs. Clearly they aren’t anything special.
No shit Sherlock
43 career starts this is who he is
Fields must have 30-ft legs to take steps that big.
I’m just glad media everywhere can see what’s holding the Jets offense back, especially during a week where the defense came back to life BIG. I feel bad for Fields because hes human and has the whole entire sports world dogging on him…but that’s the extent of my empathy. If he were a rookie this would be a different combo but this is year 5.
At some point you’ll learn maybe you’re just not cut out for certain things. That’s just life. You can’t TEACH what he needs to learn as a QB at this level, it’s too late. Some guys have it and get better at it, some don’t. We’ve seen time and time again very physically gifted QBs struggle in this league because it’s not just as simple as muscling a football downfield, which works at almost every other level than the pros. Then there’s those less physically gifted that play the game out of this world because of their high football IQ, and I hate to use him as an example, but Brady.
His reaction in the postgame press conference was natural.
His first instinct was to protect his player.
Don’t ask me about benching one dude when we lost as a team.
And his reaction a day later is natural too.
Fields wasn’t good enough.
Even with a low ceiling backup like Tyrod Taylor, Fields wasn’t good enough.
I feel better about what happened at halftime, now. Glenn says he should’ve dialed up a Hail Mary as time expired, and yes, of course he should’ve done that.
But given that Fields couldn’t drop back and see anything open, how likely was a Hail Mary to work?
Not likely at all IMO.
We’ve got access to one quarterback that we can’t be certain sucks at this point. Elevate Brady Cook, give him first team practice reps and let him have his shot.
He’s scared to throw the ball and may be broken, he needs to see a sports psychologist
Fields had a great first game, and the longer he’s been with our coaches in our environment, the worse he’s looked. NYJ and QBs just don’t mix. Look at Darnold 🤷🏻♂️
Williams was wide open at the sticks on 4th down but of course Fields didn’t see him.
People roll their eyes when a regular person says this but for SURE, 1000%, I would have done a better job at QB than Fields has last game.
I would maybe even argue all year, but for SURE this last game.
