"Trying to strengthen the Tigers with a wave of low-impact veteran arms may have actually weakened them.

The six pitchers acquired at the trade deadline combined for a 5.24 ERA in 134 innings."

  1. This offseason, we just need to stay away from the Red Wings trap of signing too many vets to “help the young guys develop.” Finnegan and Rafael Montero would’ve been fine to stop at during the trade deadline, everyone else was a pointless gamble.

We need to make moves towards young guys this offseason who help impact the numbers immediately next season.

  2. The Tigers issue was really bats and the fact of the matter is that there wasn’t really a lot of movement/availability of solid bats at the deadline.

  3. He got the wrong guys. İ don’t know how you can pigeonhole that into too little / too much.

  4. I mean, I wouldn’t say it “weakened” them in any way that actually really matters. Yes they lost the division, but as we saw, make the playoffs and anything can happen. Morton and Paddack were acquired to eat innings for the bullpen and nothing more. Montero was actually pretty good for us, and Finnegan faltered a bit down the stretch but they probably don’t make the playoffs without him. Heuer and Seward were completely inconsequential players who only pitched in games the Tigers had already lost

  5. That reads like he didnt do enough.

134 innings of 5.24 ERA. Then names Paddack and Morton.

Oh so like we needed a real 2/3 starter and instead, all Harris did was grab off the scrap heap? Neat.

  6. Unpopular opinion but I think they were right to be stingy this year. We arent true title contenders yet and the market was pretty weak.

  7. Bregman would of put us over the hump IMO. If we wouldve signed him. The post all star slump wouldn’t of happened or been as bad. We need a veteran presence during our tough times. Hitch isn’t enough. Bregman would’ve been that guy. Greene and Tork didn’t show any qualities of leadership during that time. If Seattle makes it to the world series, its because they tried 2 years in the row to go for the jugular.

  8. The best thing Harris did at the deadline was keep Troy Melton who will matter way more to the Tigers than one 2nd half of Eugenio Suarez who was horrible for the Mariners anyways

  9. The biggest thing that caused the Tigers their issues was not signing Bregman in the off season. If we had him in the lineup with Gleybar and everyone else I really think we could’ve gone farther.
