Chicago Bulls fall to Denver Nuggets despite Buzelis and Giddey’s STRONG Play 🐂 Vucevic was BAD! 💥

My name is Philip Charles Vaner Hayden the fourth and on this episode we’re talking about the Bulls losing to the Nuggets. And guys, it wasn’t a great game at all. We’re going to talk about it on this episode, but there were some people to be positive about at least. If you think that Matas Buzzel can be an all-star this season, hit that like button and if you’re on your cell phones, hit that hype button, my friends. And are you worried about Nicole Vousvich? Type Y for yes, type for no. I’d love to know what you think in the comments below because I certainly am. But we’ll get to him. Let’s talk about the positives first. And the first one is Buzzaw Buzzel’s balls, baby. Matas Bzelis, man, he really showed off in this game. His two-way potential, I I I can’t even use the potential too much longer because his two-way uh performance is unbelievable. And he was he was everything that the Bulls needed in this game. There was three guys that carried the Bulls in the beginning of this game and were the only reason that we were within single digits when we were uh at halftime and one of them was Matas Buselis. He was unbelievable. He was limitless. Uh but we’ll go to his uh partner in crime. Uh the other guy that played phenomenal and really these two to me played head and shoulders better than anybody else on the team yesterday and that was um Josh Giddy. Josh Giddy can shoot. Okay, I don’t know why this is still a a topic of conversation amongst some fans. It’s not a question. This man can shoot the basketball. Yes, he’s going to have off nights. Everybody in the NBA has off nights, but this guy came out torching the net yesterday. His shot looks faster. His form looks cleaner. it overall. Let’s stop talking about the narrative that oh yeah, the Thunder benched him two years ago during a playoff series because he couldn’t shoot. All right, man. That was two years ago. Two years ago, this kid just turned 23. He was barely 21 at the time and he can shoot, man. Like, I don’t know why we’re still talking about it. He was three of four to start the game from distance yesterday. At one point, IO and Giddy and Bzelis had 27 points. The rest of the Chicago Bulls had one. It was literally and and other people had shot attempts. Like it was unbelievable what these kids like carried us to yesterday. I’ll go back to the mat slide. You see above he had 30 minutes, seven to 12 from the field, three of seven from downtown, three of three from the line, three rebounds and assist in five, count them, five blocks for a total of 20 points. And then Josh Giddy, 25 points for the kid, seven of 14 from the field, three of seven from downtown, eight of eight from the line. Great job getting to the line. uh seven re or sorry, nine rebounds, two of them on offense and six assists to go along with a block. Now, you want to see the four turnovers come down, but for a man that handles the ball as much as Josh Giddy does, you kind of understand it. But still, you’d like to see him be limited to maybe two turnovers rather than four. Um but overall, like add in I do and these Bulls showed up. These three the these three starters showed up. Unfortunately for the Bulls, the other two starters, Vousvich and Aoro, decided that they didn’t want to play basketball yesterday. Or if that wasn’t the case, they just sucked. Like straight up, they weren’t good. You guys know I’m a positive, optimistic channel, and that I’m negative only when I’m forced to be, and they are forcing me to be. Both of them have not been good in this preseason. I’ve enjoyed the attitude that Aoro brings, but dude, you’ve got to perform better on offense. You’ve got to resp make teams respect you. Right now, if I’m a defender playing Isaac Aoro or Nicole Vousvich and they’re at the three-point line, I’m giving them all the room. I’m backing up because we want them shooting the basketball. They have not shown an ability to consistently shoot at all. And I know it’s preeason, but like you don’t change your shot in the preseason versus the regular uh season. You sh your shot is your shot. You’re going to shoot the same way. And so they’re they are not inspiring any confidence on the offensive end of the floor at all. Matas, on the other hand, is inspiring contest uh confidence on both sides. And he also had four blocks in in third in his first 13 minutes. It was unbelievable, man. The dude was throwing a block party. Everyone was invited. Even the Joker, he could get it too. And uh man, I was very very encouraged by the by what they did yesterday. Um you know, Matas on both ends of the floor and then Josh Gideon Io what they did on offense. But the the the Gideon Buzzel tandem is going to take the both places. It might not be this year. It might just be the playoffs and an early exit this year, but eventually like this duo is going to be feared around the NBA. They hooked up for an alleyoop yesterday and I’d like to say like that’s going to be the first of many many alley oops that we see the Gideon Buseles tandem put forth for the Chicago Bulls fans viewing pleasure. But we’ll get to our top performers here. Patrick Williams in 25 minutes. He had nine points, three of eight from the field, two of five from downtown, five assists, one rebound, and a plus minus or plus one. He was our best reserve yesterday. Um, I guess our best reserve when it mattered. Javon Carter ended up getting some play, a lot more play uh in the fourth quarter than any other time. But again, man, he continues to play well. Um, I know he’s not playing against top level defenders at all. He’s playing against the end of the bench. But in 22 minutes, he had 17 minutes or sorry, 17 points in 22 minutes. You know, seven of 11 from the field, three of six from downtown, three assists, four rebounds. He was a plus 13. Frankly, he was the reason that the Bulls made this close at the end, and he was almost the reason that they had a chance to win. Um, you know, it’s gross that Javon Carter has been such a positive in these first games because I’m afraid he’s going to earn actual minutes. And frankly, he should not be earning minutes over any of the guards that we have on our team, including Yuki. Um, I’m, you know, if he can come in off the bench and give us that spark like he’s been giving in the preseason, then then fine. I I I guess I’m fine with it if he’s going to shoot like this. But I’m I’m afraid he’s going to earn a regular rotation spot and then he’s going to go back to the Javon Carter that we all know and love. And that’s the one that was shooting us all out of basketball games. When I say that we all know and love, I mean that we all know and hate. We had I do uh he started yesterday 28 minutes, 11 points, five of seven from the field, 02 from downtown. He couldn’t shoot uh from range yesterday, but dude, when this guy is driving to the basket, he is lethal. He has got the driving game to a tea, man. Like, nobody could stop him when he was going to the basket yesterday. He’s getting crafty. He’s unbelievable. And the combo of him and Josh Giddy are a problem. When when teams have to take them off the dribble, everything else is opening up for the Bulls on offense. And it’s it’s really great to see. He also had three assists and three rebounds. Look, he was at minus 17, but the plus minus for him, Giddy, and Vu was all bad. And it’s because of how bad Vu was. Vu was allowing so much to the basket. Like every pick and roll, Vu was getting annihilated. Annihilated. He couldn’t get his feet moving. and he wasn’t putting defense on the ball handler if he had to switch on a pick and roll until they were at the rim. And it was just it was ugly, man. Really, really ugly. And I put all of that minus on V. He was very, very bad yesterday. And the Joker also did whatever he wanted as well. Um, and then we had Zack Collins who was a breath of fresh air when he came in for Foo. 11 points, 46 from the field, 01 from downtown, no assists, but he had three rebounds, two steals, and a block. He was a plus 12 on the court yesterday. And I’m starting to feel like we should be starting Zack Collins. I hope Billy will have the balls to do that, to make that change if it’s clear that Vousvich is not adding anything when he’s in the game. Because look, we cannot afford to go down by 10 every game because Vuvich can’t stop his can’t stop the center and because he can’t switch on anything because he’s too slow. I know he’s normally slow you guys, but he looks even slower than normal. Like it looks like he’s losing a step and that’s scary for the Bulls because we switch on everything and he needs to be able to at least stop the the ball handler once in a while. like the the switchability yesterday was really bad for the Bulls. Not good. And a lot of that was on him. The depth failed us and I think that’s going to be rare. Like Patrick Williams continued his strong play but otherwise man the depth was was was not great for the Bulls. Denton Terry made a number of really boneheaded plays. Um stop picking up your dribble when you drive Don Terry. like he was getting deep into the paint, but he was getting well defended. So, he’d pick up his dribble and then there was good defense on the perimeter around him, so he was lost. He didn’t know what to do. Stop doing that, Don Terry. I know that it’s preseason, but like I don’t know if he’s going to continue to get minutes. I hope Look, I want him to do well and I what I’m confused about is that everybody told Casey Johnson this off season that he was making like a a lot of improvements in his game. And I I frankly don’t see it where um I hope that we do see it like as the season goes on. Maybe, you know, we’re going to see a different side of Dale and Terry that we didn’t see so far um this preseason. But I don’t know, man. It’s it it’s not looking good. And then the Bulls clearly miss Trey Jones and we clearly miss Kobe White and Kevin uh Herurder. I’m excited to see what this team looks like at full strength because with Kobe it’s going to look different. Obviously that man is was scoring 20 20 21 points a game last year and then after the Lavine trade he was averaging 25 for a season for one of the months the month he won player of the month he averaged almost 28 points a game. So, I want to see what Kobe White looks like this year because with him added, it’s going to add a whole different dimension to the Bulls offense that they’re not giving the other team right now. As good as IO is and as good as he’s been showing on offense, he’s not Kobe White on offense. So, I’m excited to see what that looks like. And I’m starting to think that Kevin Herder should be starting instead of Isaac Aoro. Aoro, look, man, what he’s doing is good enough for the bench. It’s not good enough to be that starting three. So, I it’s coming to the point where I’m trying to where I’m thinking if Patrick Williams should get in uh any play there. And that’s crazy. I I’d rather play Kevin Herder there. And then look, we’ll figure it out off the bench. But like right now, like I’m more encouraged to play Noah Essen than I am to see Dalon Terry or Isaac Aoro continue getting those minutes because at least Noah Essen can play defense. And that’s that’s what those two are supposed to be there for. And then Essen has a lot more room to grow than either of them offensively. And he’s shown a natural basketball IQ. So I I at this point I’d be willing to start Herder at the three and play SN off the bench. We’ll see. But we’ll see what ke uh Billy uh does. I I I hope that he is cutthroat with his evaluations because right now like like I said, I want to see starting Giddy, Kobe, Herder, Bzelis, Zack Collins. I’m going to say it. And then off the bench, I want to see uh Trey Jones, IO, Noah Essenay, um Patrick Williams, and Jaylen Smith at the five. And yes, I’m asking I’m saying don’t play Isaac Aoro, Nicole Vousvich, Dalen Terry, Julian Phillips. Yes, I’m sorry. That’s what I’ve that’s that’s my evaluation of this preseason. I’d like to believe that BH is going to turn it around. But based on the preseason, that’s what I want to see. I I don’t know. We’ll see what goes on going forward. I know that Vu isn’t going to get benched. I know he’s not going to see the end of the bench, but I I at this point I’m like, “Okay, can we find a trading partner?” Like really fast cuz look, if if that’s the vouch we’re going to get all season long, he will be the reason why we don’t make the six seed. And that’s not okay. But that’ll do it for this episode of Just Another Year Chicago Bulls. I’m sorry that was more negative than normal on this episode, but I felt like I had to take Aoro and Vousvich to task because they’re not holding up their end of the bargain. But the bright side, Bzelis, Giddy, IO, they look phenomenal and we’re going to have to lean on them a lot in this season. But that’ll do it for me. My name is Philip Charles Vander the fourth and as always, I am seeing red more than ever, baby. Let’s go.

The Chicago Bulls fell to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets 124-117 at Ball Arena, but there was still plenty for Bulls fans to get excited about — and a lot to be frustrated with. Host Philip Charles VanDerHeyden IV breaks it all down in this full recap on Just Another Year Chicago: Bulls!

Let’s start with the positives: Matas Buzelis continues to look like a future star in the making. The rookie was unbelievable on both ends of the floor — showing poise, elite defensive instincts, and offensive confidence beyond his years. His ability to switch on defense and still score efficiently made him the biggest bright spot for Chicago. Josh Giddey also continues to silence the doubters who said he couldn’t shoot. His jumper looks smoother and more confident than ever, and his playmaking remains elite, helping the Bulls keep up with Denver’s pace.

Unfortunately, Nikola Vucevic remains a major problem. Once again, he was exposed defensively, struggling to contain Nikola Jokić and allowing the Nuggets to dictate the game in the paint. Offensively, Vucevic looked sluggish and out of sync, missing key shots and failing to provide the inside presence Chicago desperately needs. It’s becoming clearer each game that his role — and effort — are holding this team back from reaching its full potential.

Despite Vooch’s struggles, Chicago still had several standout performances. Coby White stayed aggressive, dropping 18 points and dishing out 7 assists. Ayo Dosunmu brought defensive energy and smart shot selection, adding 14 points. Matas Buzelis contributed 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks in a highlight-filled showing. Josh Giddey flirted with a double-double, finishing with 16 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds — and most importantly, he hit shots in rhythm.

The Bulls shot 46% from the field and 39% from three, but turnovers (16 total) and defensive lapses in the paint cost them dearly against a well-oiled Nuggets offense led by Jokić’s 27-point, 11-assist night.

PCV IV gives his full thoughts on the Bulls’ effort, what Chicago can take away from this game, and what needs to change heading into the rest of the preseason. Don’t miss his breakdown of why the team should keep building around young talent like Buzelis and Giddey while seriously reconsidering what to do with Vucevic.

  2. Okoro's stats across several seasons with Cleveland were overall fairly modest. Not sure what the thinking was in bringing him onto the Bulls roster. He will struggle against the better teams. Agree that Matas & Giddey showed encouraging form and if Ayo can stay injury-free then he is a serious weapon for the Bulls this coming season. I notice that Julian Phillips has been under-utilised this pre-season – is he injured, or what?
