ROOKIE Will Campbell Week 6 NFL Highlights | All Snaps Vs Saints

  1. As someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about OL play, a question:

There’s several plays here where Campbell blocks the DE behind Maye and then disengages and stops, meaning the DE has a long but free run at Maye from behind. Is that normal and safe, as the play is designed for Maye to release it quickly, or is it an issue the Saints just couldn’t take advantage of?

The plays at 16s, 58s, and 4:19 are examples of what I mean.

  2. This is a Drake & Josh highlight video more than Will Campbell. Campbell is holding up fairly well for a rookie, still gets pushed back and run around too often for my liking, but we could certainly do worse. Josh understands protection issues so well, he’s an underrated but large factor in the OL playing so well.

  3. Full transparency. I was not stoked about this pick at the time. But man I am glad I was wrong.

  4. So this is considered great? Genuinely asking because it seems Campbell has some improvement to do, obv he’s a rookie going up against nfl experienced defenders but it seems like he let some tackles happen on the run plays, doesn’t seem to hold off the defender back on pass blocks longer than 2/3 seconds. Also isn’t that a holding penalty on the titles image? Must be me but I see how Drake Mayes dodging/quick passes is the one making everyone look good, as good QB’s do.

  5. Very good in pass pro. He was killing us in the run game. He seems tentative and isnt getting enough push in a lot of the run reps in this video. Everyone seems tentative and almost confused in the tun game.

Also the cut blocks were not working out much at all. Plenty to work on

  6. Jared Wilson is not ready… I can appreciate a trial by fire and hopefully that elevates his game but right now he’s a liability.

Watch his first step on run plays and pass plays. It’s the same! Defenders just extend on run plays and he lets them, they wait for the gap and then shed him.

Pass plays he has really poor lateral movement and doesn’t concede yardage to keep the defender in front of him.

Let’s hope Marrone can coach him up on these things but right now, on this tape, he’s a drive killer and one of the leading factors why we cannot run the ball to save our lives.

  7. If you watch Morgan Moses on these same plays, it shows you just how much quicker Campbell’s feet are.

  8. Overall very good game from Will Campbell but man, Drake Maye is making some guys looks *good* out there.

For example on the Henderson flip play (58 seconds in this video) Chase Young beats Campbell with a one arm power stab to get into his body then knocks Campbell’s hands down for an instant shed, but Maye somehow senses the blindside pressure perfectly and flips the ball out to the back in the flat right before Chase Young can hit him. Unbelievable play by Maye.

90% of NFL QBs take a big sack and half of those QBs are getting strip sacked right there. No idea how Maye sensed that pressure and got the ball out like that. Amazing.
