BREAKING: ELIAS PETTERSSON IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN WE THOUGHT… HERE’S WHY (Canucks News)
And the teeter totter continues. Don’t get me wrong, folks. I’ve been as pessimistic on the Vancouver Conucks as anybody. Heck, you could even say that my level of pessimism and downplaying the Vancouver Conucks talent and their skills borders the reasonable state of mind. You can say that a lot of the videos we’ve made have been overreactions, and I’m not going to shy away from that. I’ve done it. Pretty sure a lot of y’all in the comments have done it as well. Don’t lie to yourselves, folks. We have been kind of cynical lately. And I say we, there are some that are a lot more level-headed than I am. Hey, it’s only been three games. Stop coming to conclusions. But at the same time, there are still opposing perspectives that I do think are important to acknowledge and bring up. Which is why for me talking about Vancouver Connect superstar Elas Peterson and being as harsh and critical as I have been on this guy the past few games, we still have to dive into some actually good news. And I’d say it’s probably surprising as well, depending on who you ask, because I’d say that a lot of the Vancouver Conucks fan Elias Person discourse has been centered around two things. One is the points, and two, it’s the 11.6 $6 million superstardom like profile that you expect somebody who’s making that amount of money to be able to provide. A profile that Person has provided in the past. Few years ago, he was an extremely dynamic, shifty, patient, lethal shooter. A guy who could make really nice plays and who could dangle the pants off of guys, confidently navigate around the offensive zone with and without the puck. When he would get it, it’d be on a stick and off his stick in a quick second, either with a blistering one to the goal or with a nice little back door tap-in pass to Andre Kouseno. Ilas Person showed off in previous years that he can be a superstar. You don’t lock into getting 100 points unless your name is Ryan Nen Hopkins. Okay. Um, let’s just skip past that for now. Elias Person has shown off so much skill, pizzazz, star power, whatever words you want to use in previous years, but he has not shown that off for the span of about uh h a year and a half already. Since February 2024, Ilas Person has not been anywhere near that caliber visually nor point production-wise. Those are the two things that a lot of Kucks fans would look at when it comes to criticizing Person. And I’ve been right there with y’all. Like, I’m not saying that I’m immune from all this thinking as well. I don’t know if you noticed, but we’ve been making videos about this guy for over a year, this entire time. But there is still a portion of the fan base that’s optimistic, or at least they’re not as pessimistic as some of us may seem. And I wanted to refer to a tweet posted by Chester Ming and the ensuing conversation afterwards that tries to paint this story together. Take a look at this tweet right here. Through three games this season for the Vancouver Conucks, Elias Person, the forward, leads everybody on the team at 5v5 with a 69% expected goals for percentage. It’s extra frustrating that he’s not scoring yet. I get it because some other lines are also getting caved, but he’s not getting smacked around like some of y’all seem to be thinking. Now, this also plays into a conversation that you can have about deployment and whether or not Adam Foot’s deployment of Person, which has not been a lot, is warranted. If you didn’t catch it in the most recent game against the St. Lewis Blues, Philip Pedle, top center on the team technically by ice time. Elas Person, the sixth most used top six forward on the team by ice. De Brusk, Besser, Garland, Heedle, and Kefir Sherwood all had more minutes than EP40 in that St. Louis game. And you can ask whether or not Person getting fewer minutes than these guys is a response to his lack of production or is it the reason that he’s lacking production? Is it a symptom or the cause? Who really knows? Chicken or the egg? Is it a cycle that just kind of rebounds and reverberates on itself? But Chester Ming’s point is pretty interesting that throughout the three games, Elias Patterson has had the highest expected goals for percentage out of every Vancouver Canuck. There’s another post here by Fish Dancer. He says that Person could have had four assists in the game against St. Louis. He won the faceoff and then hustled for a screen where Meyers ripped it off the post. He picked off Bennington’s pass and fed Brock in the slot. He fed the Bruskin in front for a tap in and he flubbed it. And then Person also put a Kane in a loan, but Kane flubbed it. Yeah, the fancy stats shocked me. They’re elite. They weren’t elite last year, lol. So, at the very least, even though Elias Person still has not gotten on the score sheet, nor has he been deployed in the ways that an 11.6 6 million playmaker should be deployed. Nor has he necessarily given that same aura of danger that he had a few years ago. The advanced analytics still show that there have been positive things coming out of his game. And I just want to let that sink in a little bit. A reply from Nquille goes out there and says this that hey, I’m generally on the quote unquote shut up and produce stage of the Person saga. But these advanced stats, albeit surprising, are actually really encouraging because this was not the case for Person last year. I’m giving him 15 to 20 games and if the production doesn’t follow, then I’ll be off the wagon. A reply from Brando says that the only issue is Person has been getting easy matchups against teams third and fourth lines. You’d expect those fancy stats to be decent. If he’s actually deployed as a number one center, those fancy numbers won’t be nearly the same. However, another reply from Spenny says that Hughes is under 50% goal share without Person on the ice. It’s system pains almost guaranteed. So, what exactly do those replies mean? There’s the response that says that Person’s underlying numbers should be good because of the deployment that he has. He’s not being played and tasked up against the top lines anymore. But then you also have the secondary response that says even Quinn Hughes is having a difficult time stringing together positive on ice results in goal shares when Person is away from the ice. It’s almost like the Vancouver Conucks are just not really that great in general. Andas Person and Quinn Hughes happen to have been some of the more impactful players that just haven’t been impactful enough to swing the tides into a dub in the same way that Philip Hedel and Kefir Sherwood have tried to do the past few games. Sheeted of course he did that in game one. They won against Calgary. Demco tried to do that against Edmonton. It didn’t work. Sherwood against St. Louis didn’t work either. They lost those previous two. But the Vancouver Canucks in general, you can say, hey, they are still trying to get adjusted to new systems. That is a big change from the Ricktaka style last year. Vancouver’s more aggressive. They’re trying to make more on the rush, on the fly, snazzy kind of plays, but they’ve just been pretty sloppy at setting them up. And for Elias Patterson when he’s going out there and getting pretty nice shot assists and setting guys up out who don’t end up scoring but who still have good opportunities, it does paint a lot more optimism than you would initially guess based off the way people like me are talking about this dude. At the end of the day though, Elas Person needs to produce. If he gets all the advanced stats and he has all the shot assists and high danger scoring chances in the world, that’s fine. but they have to go in. He’s got to be like a 70 80 point player at minimum if he’s going to be defined as a number one center that can lead a team into the playoffs and potentially win a Stanley Cup. If he’s a 45point player for the rest of his career, like say goodbye to any chance Vancouver has at contending. Say goodbye to Quinn Hughes. Say goodbye to all that. And Aalini is going to have no choice but to say, “Yeah, okay. Sorry. Like, we tried to make the playoffs every year. It didn’t work. But that’s an entire other conversation for another day. I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. When it comes to this surprisingly good news on Elias Patterson, what is your response to it? How do you respond to the advanced analytics actually painting Person in a very positive light compared to a lot of other Kucks players? And based on what we have seen so far on the ice, do you believe it? Leave a like if you enjoyed this video. Comments help out with the algorithm. I hope you enjoyed this British Trolls 999 and bye.

Am I crazy for thinking Tocchet somehow ruined EP40?
you mean pissamism on your part lol Canuck fans
Didn't Foote match up EP40 against CM97 a couple of games ago?
If EP40 is creating plays, but wingers and D are flubbing them, or goalies are robbing them, that happens, that's not EP40 playing bad, that's EP40 being snake bit. Funny thing about a player who's snake bit but continues to play well, and they're a talented player creating chances, with talented wingers and defensemen on their line, more then capable of making and finishing their plays, goalies can't rob you blind forever. Good players can't flub chances forever. The points will come.
Where I get concerned is if his line mates keep on flubbing plays, or he stops making plays. That's a sign the snake bite poison is spreading through his system and has gotten to him or gotten to his line mates and they've stopped believing in themselves.
But if he can keep up the heat, and overcome, expect the points to start coming sooner or later and probably sooner then later. Maybe he needs a different line combo to fire things up, as maybe things just aren't clicking with him, Boesser and DeBrusk. maybe he needs Garland and Kane or Baines or Lekkerimaki on his wings, and Boesser and DeBrusk would do better with Chytil.
Would the Italian owners of the Canucks have to buy out the big contract if EP40 died under suspicious circumstances?
Ep40 is trash. Soft as a marshmallow. He can't stay on his feet. Won't go to any hard areas to battle. You pay players that drive the offense 11m a year…. not marshmallows.
Stop calling Petey a superstar.
Petey still him . Smthn definitely off though
Untill he starts putting pucks in the net fans are going to stay sour on Petterson
Too much mumble jumble . Just get to the point!
AH yes the EP40 actually sucks denial syndrome continues!!! YES lets talk about how ALL EP40's problems are someone else's fault. Just. Wow.
some of the crap you say… seriously dude. STOP.
Team is getting spanked and top paid guy is invisible.
Quick! Out with some Advanced Stats!
Like freaking clockwork.
Another contract will have to eat again Thanks management…
Umm, no he's not, he's worse than we thought.
The only thing predictable for the Canucks right now for for me right now is literally the coach I do not believe Adam Foote will ever be a good head coach a good assistant coach but not head coach we should fire him right now or move him aside and bring up Manny mehrotra because that's the guy who's going to get the job done he knows what it takes to be an actual Vancouver Canucks
Lowkey we need to go back to the tochet style for the other players… and have petterssons line play a different style… the garlands won't do well if they don't play the forecheck style
You have to see how many time he have the puck in offensive zon
cANUCKS NEED TO GET THEIR SH IT togther & win your games forget EP40 alone thewhole team didnt show up in St Louis & Oilers w early bleeding.. this is a warning sign not good! If EP40 is 11m THEN I WANT 11M GOALS! not excuses!
