🚨Jets Make Multiple Roster Moves | New York Jets News

[Music] Yo, what’s going on everybody? You are watching the Jets Report by Chad Sports. My name is Patrick Seatman and coming up on today’s show, we’re going to discuss the multiple roster moves that the Jets have made over the past 24 hours and then the second half of today’s show, a lot of negativity around the New York Jets. obviously, you know, the worst football team in the NFL, but I do want to highlight two head uh hidden gems they have defensively that could be building blocks for the future. But let’s start off with the roster moves here. Defensive tackle Leonard Taylor III was released and you know, a bit of a shocker. Um Leonard Taylor did show some pop during the preseason. I thought he put some good film out there on tape, but the Jets ended up uh cutting ties with him. And you know why he was released? He was just slipping down the defensive tackle depth chart. I think after they traded for Jawan Briggs, you know, you brought in Harrison Phillips, you know, you have other young defensive tackles stepping up. So, it does make sense that they wanted to move on and he’s only played 47 snaps this season, which, you know, is probably right. I mean, the Jets are, you know, pretty solid still on the defensive line. And, you know, after the Garrett Wilson injury and also Josh Reynolds popping up on the injury report this week, you need to make move for another wide receiver to be elevated to this active roster. And that guy will probably be Trenton Irwin. He was signed to the practice squad for the New York Jets. And uh Trenton Irwin, he was uh he had a great 2023 season. He was a great piece for that Bengals offense with Joe Burrow. Had a pretty damn good connection with them. And in that 2023 season, he was solid. 25 catches going for 316 yards, 12.6 yards uh per catch. Did find the end zone one time. And you know, this guy’s actually a solid wide receiver. He’s more of that possession almost feels like a bigger Cole Beasleyes receiver. But I will say this guy, he ran a uh uh he ran a 4640, but he’s definitely got more pop than that. And back in that 2023 season, he had a solid connection with Joe Burrow. Um Joe Burrow was throwing him like back shoulder throws. They were taking shots down the field with him. He was running deep post. He does have a very uh or he runs a lot of routes on the route tree like he’s not just like a one-trick pony. You can line them at the in the slot. You can line them up outside. So I actually will say I like this pickup of him. You know, there weren’t too many good wide receiver options out there in free agency. So, I like this pickup of Trenton Irwin. And, you know, like I was saying, he only ran a 4.64 40 yard dash, but he feels a lot faster than that when he was out there on the football field because, you know, when I was going out there and uh you know, just watching his highlights before we were filming today’s show, I had to look up how fast his 40 was cuz I was going to assume it was in like the four five four uh four range, but he only ran a 464. So, I kind of like that that he looks a lot faster out there on the football field. And I fully believe he will be called up to the active roster. You know, maybe even earlier than game uh than the actual game day on Sunday, but he will for sure be out there. I honestly think he’s probably going to get some solid reps uh for this Jets offense this week, especially if Josh Reynolds can’t go. I mean, you look around that wide receiver room. No Garrett Wilson, no Josh Reynolds. Like, who’s going to step up? It’s going to be Aaron Smith. It could be Dylan. It could be myself. It could be anybody playing wide receiver for the Jets. So, I do expect Trenton Irwin to make an impact, but overall, I hope Mason Taylor and Aren Smith get a lot more involved in this offense. Like, even though injuries are bad, but this does, you know, allow an opportunity some of the younger guys on the roster. So, Trent Irwin, I like that pickup, but they also ended up releasing um Avery Williams from the practice squad. No big shocker there. Um you just got to make room for more guys on the P squad. So, the Jets could make another move here, tie another guy to the practice squad. I’m assuming it’s going to be another wide receiver, especially if this Josh Reynolds injury does keep him out for this week seven matchup against the Carolina Panthers. But he’s actually going to be rocking number 38 for the Jets in this game. So, if you guys want to show Trent Irwin some love, type his jersey number. Type those 38s down below. A white wide receiver wearing number 38 kind of has some aura to it. So, if you guys want to show Trent Irwin some love, type those 38s down below in the comments section. Um, I’m excited to see him play. You know, this guy’s a playmaker. He’s a dog. He’s got some good energy around him. Uh, so I’m definitely excited to see him go out there and make some plays for this Jets offense. Now, we’ll talk about the two hidden gems here on the Jets defense here in a second, but before we do so, I got to give a big time shout out to today’s presenting sponsor, that being Prize Pick. All right, so the two hidden gems on the Jets defense. We’re going to start off with the linebacker, Kiko, fourthrounder out of Miami. He put on some really good tape out there this past week against the Denver Broncos. And then also we’ll talk about Jarvis Brownley Jr. is why that trade was a complete steal for this Jets run off. But let’s start off here with Kiko. So, Pico posted a 60 or 86.3 PFF grade this past weekend in playing, 50 snaps. He was pretty damn good in coverage as well, but mainly he was great in the run support. He had five tackles, zero missed tackles. He was shooting gaps at a very high level. And I do like the energy he brings. Like, he has a very, you know, you know, contagious feel around him where when he’s making plays, he’s getting up bringing some energy to this defense. And I think obviously the Jets needed a linebacker to step up with Quincy, you know, on short-term IR and also McCra Ball not playing. So I like the way um Pico’s been playing out there. Obviously the Jets were so bad against the run during the first couple weeks of the season, but they’re pretty damn good against the Denver Broncos this past week. And I think we can give a lot of credit uh for that success to a guy like Kiko. But Piccolos had a pretty cool quote talking about his development so far in the NFL saying this saying getting to learn from Quincy and Sherwood and Lo McCra Ball. Being able to pick their brains and how they see the game has helped speed up the process for me. So I’m blessed to be able to be around those guys and just learn from them and learn the game of football and understand that I am never alone out there. I love that quote. I love that positive energy because obviously Jets 0 and6 you know this guy’s bringing some positivity to the team and you know one positive even though the Jets are 0 and6 this rookie draft class from this past season does look very promising like Armanu he looks like a home run pick should be the franchise right tackle Mason Taylor I think he’s going to end up you know once he gets more involved be one of the more premier tight ends in the league and then I still got faith in a guy like Aaron Smith I like Malachi more haven’t really seen a Thomas too much but hey if a guy like Kiko is playing some good football that could be huge for for this draft class. So, you could potentially have five starters from this past 2025 draft class. So, shout out to Darren Muji. Even though uh his free agency moves weren’t, you know, the best with giving Justin Fields that contract, giving Brandon Stevens that contract, I will say at least him in the, you know, draft market and in the trade market, he has been pretty solid in uh just one year being the Jets GM. But let’s talk about that trade market here and probably the best trade that Darren Muji has made as a GM of the New York Jets. You’re able to acquire Jarvis Brownley Jr. and a seventh round pick and you only had to give up a 2026 sixth round pick. Now, why I was such a fan of this move when it immediately happened is Tennessee Titans fans were saying, “What the hell are we doing? Why are we just giving away Jarvis Brownley Jr. for absolutely nothing?” And as we know, this guy is one of the best run defenders at the quarterback position in the NFL. But more specifically, this past weekend against Denver, this guy was fantastic in coverage. He had a 90.4 four coverage grade and he did allow five receptions, but since he is such a good tackler, those five receptions only went for 22 yards. Now, he also had six tackles, did have two missed tackles in this game, so he had a missed tackle rate of 25%, but he played 41 snaps, had a solid coverage grade. He was actually the highest graded PFF defender for the New York Jets this past weekend. So, obviously the Jets, they were struggling a lot against the run. So you bring in a, you know, a nickel outside corner hybrid like Jarvis Brownley is to be a lot better in the run fit game and then also, you know, Kico making a big impact as well. But I absolutely love this move. Not only is this going to get the Jets better this year, but he is still a young guy, 24 years old, so he could be, you know, potentially a starting nickel of the future once they, you know, let go of Michael Carter who, you know, did struggle earlier on this season. So I love this pickup. And even though the Jets 01 and six not looking good, there are still a bunch of young players on this team um that have been performing well. Obviously, the Jets don’t have an incredibly young roster, but just a couple of pieces here that uh could be key building blocks for this team moving forward. But let me ask you guys this because Darren Muji, I think he’s been kind of all over the map as a GM. Like I was saying, did not love his free agency moves so far. Um you know, even just giving Tony Adams a one-year $3 million deal, that was terrible. Um Brandon Stevens, that contract’s bad. that the Justin Fields contract is bad, but his draft class is, you know, looking pretty promising right now. He’s made three pretty damn good trades for Harrison Phillips, Jawan Briggs, and Jarvis Brownley. So, I see guys this great Darren Muji as the Jets GM. I probably have to give him B minus C plus around that range right now. You know, still at the end of the day, you’re 0 and six, but I don’t think he is, you know, the biggest reason for that. So, you guys know your thoughts down below. Great Darren Mushi as a Jets GM and we’ll get on out of here. Appreciate all of you guys watching today’s show. As always, go Jets. [Music]

  1. I give Mougey a Brandon Steven's been playing better the past two games Brownlee was a steal
Membu Taylor Moore and Kiko are good players the only bad move is Toney Adam's I want to give Justin Fields into the bye before I say he
Is trash because the Dever game was 50 percent on him and 50 percent on the
    Coaches.

  2. '38'…. Mougey grade "C". Can't say he's done anything spectacular (yet), and with the Jets at 0-6, I'm taking a wait and see attitude to next April's draft. Let's see what happens.

  3. If u look at the Jets things they can build on You have a great o line a 1 great reciever and a real good running backs I would re sign Breece Hall
On Defense you have a good day line when healthy. A good slot corner in Brownlee and kilo is looking good. If sauce and Brandon Steven's
Got there act together. Say u do not draft a quarter back trade down do a move like clevlend did. Try and draft Caleb downs and Cornell Tate
That will make u a playoff team. I do believe the defense lost 3 games but if the dever game showed what they can be I think
Us as New York Jets fans have to give this regime another year to let it play out. Parcells was not good his first year Dan Cambell
was not either. The Bills were not that good Josh Allen first year.

  4. Eh, another slow guy that can’t get open. We have Skinner and Brandon Smith on the practice squad rotting away. We know what Lazard and Reynolds can do so seeing as this was supposed to be a development season why not let the younger players show what they can do.

  5. They need to reconsider the OL depth chart. Fashanu doesn’t know the play half the time, Membu has to always ask Fields or Tippmann what he’s suppose to do and Simpson is on his ass half the time. Maybe this is more of a coaching problem. Maybe the communication of the plays is too much. Engstand should focus on getting the play call in ASAP. This will give those 3 a few extra seconds to mentally review the play and let Fields get a chance to make adjustments while simultaneously forcing the defense to declare. They also need to run Texas concept as a second means to control the middle and keep the MLB off balance. Hall is very versatile and could be your receiver 2. The jets called a drive concept on 3rd and 8 Mason a Taylor a TE who is slower than a WR is running 10 yards and in, Smith a fast WR on a 3 yard dig from a slot tight formation right to left. And they know the OL is losing. So they run the slower TE on the deeper route and the skinnier weaker player over the short middle. How silly is that? It didn’t matter because the pressure was on Fields before Taylor could break the stem. This is all around bad and the need to play to their strengths and disguise their weaknesses.

  6. B+ for Mougey.
Stephens has been getting a lot better, Brownlee solid, Phillips solid, Briggs solid, draft class is solid. I couldn’t go A- because of Fields but his moves are promising so far besides being 0-6

  7. Until Justin Fumbles is removed from their roster completely, you know that the Jets are not serious about winning today or winning tomorrow. Justin Fumbles was never NFL QB material.

  8. D team is 0-6 cmon what are we even talking about!!! Guy failed in getting a reliable #2 receiver behind Wilson. No depth at edge and horrible free agent signings. Trades are saving his 🍑

  9. This is the worst franchise in professional sports. Its almost a waste of time firing anyone, only to have the same guy pick another GM/coach

  10. Justine Fields has been a bust the second the Bears drafted him. Now on his 3rd team soon to be 4th next year. He can't throw with any accuracy.
