Here’s Why the New England Patriots are Becoming SCARY Good!! | NFL Analysis

The New England Patriots enter 2025 with a lot of momentum, but still a ton of questions. And through six weeks of the NFL season, they have answered every single question and are now sitting at 4-2. So, in today’s video, I want to talk about the New England Patriots and why they are becoming scary good. Subscribe and like the video if you do go on to enjoy. Let’s hop into it. So, we’re going to break this down starting off with the offense, then moving to the defense, then talking about what their future schedule looks like. Let’s begin with the offensive side of things because this has been the unit that has taken the big jump forward. The defense has been fine the past couple years. I would say even at times really good. It’s always just been a matter of can this Patriots team figure out their defense. Once Tom Brady left, they tried it for a few years with guys like Cam Newton and, you know, Jacobe Brassette and they probably thought Jimmy Garopppolo might be their future. Of course, that didn’t pan out. He went to San Francisco. They then drafted M. Jones with the first round pick. And for a little bit there, it looks quite promising until he started to fall off a little bit. Now granted, I do think M. Jones is a candidate to be the next like Sam Darnold or Gino Smith. We’ll see if he gets a shot as a starter somewhere. Shoot, if I was a team, I might give M. Jones a chance cuz he’s looking pretty good in San Francisco. But it was clear that it wasn’t going to work out in New England. The Patriots just were not a good enough team to support a quarterback like M. Jones. And M. Jones kind of just got worse and worse and worse to the point where he was kind of a bad starter in the NFL by the end of his tenure with the Patriots. So heading into the 2024 NFL draft, it was pretty clear the Patriots were going to take a quarterback and of course they took Drake May, which I thought was an awesome pickup. And in his first season, obviously he did not start. That was Jacobe Brassette. And then eventually he would end up taking over the starting role. And he looked pretty freaking good last year. Now it was not perfect. He made mistakes. He looked like a developing rookie quarterback that occasionally would make some throws that have you scratching your head, but he also showed the glimpses and the flashes that made you feel confident about him moving forward. And as we headed into 2025, they brought in Mike Vrabel, you bring in Stefon Diggs, you add some pieces to your offensive line. You know, you you went aggressive on the defense. They added a ton of pieces on this team that had a lot of people hyped. And I was a little bit pessimistic on this Patriots team. I knew their schedule was light, but I expected a year of development. I didn’t think they would be bad or anything, but I was thinking probably seven wins was about where they were going to be. But, I mean, to be honest with you, I was wrong. So far, they’re 4-2, and this offense looks really freaking good. Again, we’re only through six games, but through six games, they’re averaging 25 points a game, which is the 11th best in the NFL, 336 yards per game, which is the 16th best in the NFL, but fifth in touchdowns per game with 3.0. They’re good on third down. They’re excellent on fourth down. And they’re pretty decent in the red zone. Let us start off here with their young quarterback, Drake May, who, as I mentioned earlier, had a fine rookie season, but was far from like perfect. Again, he made a lot of mistakes. He made some plays that again had you scratching your head. Through six weeks of the NFL season, he has 1522 yards. That’s the fifth most in the NFL, 10 total touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also has the seventh highest QBR with a 72.3. And when you look at a season, you can kind of break it down from the first three games to the last three games. Through the first three games versus the Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Miami Dolphins, the team was one and two. Drake May ate a total of 12 total sacks through the first three weeks. And he had what, five touchdowns to two interceptions. He was playing good football, but he was still getting it. He was still developing and figuring it out. And then the Panthers game happened and they put an absolute beatd down on them 42 to13. a game in which Drake May had an awesome day. 82.4 completion percentage, two touchdowns, zero picks, only had one sack, had a QBR of 91.1. And it was like, okay, he’s getting better versus these bad teams. So, they were two and two through four weeks. Entering into the Buffalo Bills game. And that Buffalo Bills game, they won. Now granted, Buffalo is looking like a weaker team now than what they were heading into that game, but heading into that game, that was an undefeated Buffalo Bills team that was playing in a night game in their own stadium and it was a white out. So everything was leaning towards Buffalo winning that game. And then Drake May went in there, put his nuts on their forehead and just dominated them from start to finish. I’m talking leading a team 23 to 20 in a victory. And while he didn’t have any touchdowns or I don’t think he played this miraculous insane football game, he was more clutch than Josh Allen. He made more highlevel throws than Josh Allen. He was a better playmaker than Josh Allen. And when it mattered most when this game got dicey towards the end, Drake May was the guy that led the team to the victory. Not Josh Allen. Not the guy that is notorious for doing this. It was the young quarterback Drake May. It almost felt like for a day that Drake May like zapped the powers of Josh Allen. like almost as if it was a movie. Like he just he looked like Josh Allen in a in a lot of ways. I mean, he he had a borderline perfect day out there. He wasn’t, of course, flawless. He made some mistakes, but when it mattered most, he he was he was surgical and he had, in my opinion, one of his best games of his young career despite not even throwing a touchdown. It was a great game. And then he followed it up with another really solid game versus the New Orleans Saints. A day in which he had a completion percentage of just under 70%, three touchdowns, no interceptions. He only had one sack this week. He had four versus Buffalo. We’ll get to that offensive line here in a little bit because they’re figuring it out, too. But he also ran the ball nine times for 28 yards. Like Drake May is really developing nicely this season. It hasn’t been perfect. He’s been eating up a couple sacks here and they’re 18 on the season. But over the course of the last three weeks, he’s only eight and up six sacks. So 12 of the 18 sacks were in the first three weeks. And in these three games that they have won their football games, it has been a lot cleaner for Drake May. And I think what makes the this whole conversation about May the most interesting, this is probably the second worst team that May will ever be on, like this Patriots team is just going to get better year in and year out to where the team will be better and he’s going to be better and the coaching staff will be better. So by the time that he’s in year four when he’s looking for that next contract, he’s going to be on a good football team. And if he’s playing this good now on what is, let’s be honest, a okay football team to not even really that good, probably more bad than good, and he’s still playing at this level, it’s got to make you feel quite excited for when this Patriots team actually is talented and has a team that’s able to compete with other rosters. I mean, again, 1500 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, two picks through six games. They’re four and two. And guys, when I tell you this Patriots schedule is not hard, we’ll get to it here in a little bit. there’s a real chance that Drake May probably makes it to a Pro Bowl potentially all pro MVP conversations if he can keep it up because when you look at their schedule, they don’t have a ton of challenges ahead of them, especially defensive challenges. So Drake May, if he just continues to progress this year, he’s going to have a special season. Now, moving besides Drake May, there’s a lot to like about this offense. Again, as I said earlier, this is the worst supporting cast he’s going to have for quite some time. And that tells you a lot because this is a it’s it’s a fine supporting cast. They got to figure out how to run the football. It’s been very inconsistent. Raandre Stevenson, Trevon Henderson, they haven’t really gotten that fully unlocked. Like for reference, their their highs of rushers for each game. 27 yards in week one, 54 yards from Stevenson in week two. May has led the team in rushing yards twice this year in week three and in week five. They got to find ways to run the football. I think a lot of that does come down to the offensive line just being very young and figuring it out. But some of it does come down to the running backs. If they can run the football just halfway decent, I think that would definitely open up this offense. Like when you look at their rushing stats, they’re only averaging 3.5 yards a rush, which is the 29th worst in the NFL. They’re 20th in rushes per game, 26th in rushing yards per game. They are 11th in rushing touchdowns per game. Of course, you have to give May some some help there as well. But yeah, they got to run the football better. But man, the the weapons on the outside are actually playing really good football right now. You got multiple guys with pretty decent yardage on the season. Stefon Diggs has 32 receptions for 387 yards. Kan Booty’s been making a lot of big plays, 301 yards on 18 receptions. Hunter Henry 277 yards on the year. Raandre Stevenson has 154. And once they can continue to unlock Tribion Henderson, I think you’ll see him get a lot more play in the receiving game. Right now, he’s just under 100 yards, but I think that will start to pick up as he gets more trust within the coaching staff. So, the passing attack has really been the focal point of this offense. Again, we talked about the rushing statistics. When you look at the passing statistics, they’re second in completion percentage, third in yards per pass, sixth in passing yards per game. They’re seventh in interception thrown rate, which is very good. But, they are 27th in quarterback sack percentage at 9.09%. So, they got some things to clean up here on the offensive end. But again, I want to just reiterate what I said earlier. This is the worst supporting cast that Drake May is going to have. And you’re already hearing the numbers we’re talking about here. They’re very, very impressive from a quarterback in Drake May who’s only in his second year. He’s just going to get better. So, that’s all very exciting. Let’s get to the offensive line. It’s a very, very young unit and they got some work to do, especially on that left side. Let’s talk about their first overall pick and and Will Campbell who on the year via PFF. He has a 69.1 overall grade with a 73.1 pass blocking grade. Only has given up one sack, but has had a couple penalties with a total of five. I know PFF is not like the the say all be all, but I do think they know enough about what they’re talking about to take into their grades, you know, and and trust what they say. But from my eyes and my personal perspective, I I think that Will Campbell’s done a fine job. He’s still figuring it out and he’s gonna have days where he goes up against a Miles Garrett or TJ Watt and they’re gonna they’re going to get after him a little bit, but that’s all a part about being a rookie tackle. But you compare Will Campbell to some other tackles from this class or from previous classes and you got to think Will Campbell is looking like a a future star at that tackle position. There was so much conversation from myself on my podcast or on this channel about, man, is Will Campbell going to play guard? Is he going to play center? The Patriots stuck him out of tackle and and so far he’s looking pretty good on the year. Then their left guard Jared Wilson who played center in college had to transition over to play guard. He’s been a work in progress. He’s definitely somebody that is very young and just needs more playing time on the field, but on the season he’s not playing great. 46.7 overall grade, 51.3 pass blocking grade, 43.4 run blocking grade. It’s always going to be difficult to run behind a young developing guard who was a center in college who was a little bit lighter at the position. He’s got to put on some weight. He’s got to get a little bit stronger. He’s just got to learn how to play the position. Of this year, he’s more of a developing year. He’ll figure it out as he goes along. He’ll hopefully get better by the season’s over. And then next year or years after that, he starts to develop. But on the year, he hasn’t given up a sack. Has only two penalties. So, you’ll take that. There’s definitely a foundation to build on with him. You know, Brad Bur in the middle has been fine. Anwanu has been good at guard and Moses has been able to stay healthy for the most part. So, this offensive line is they’re better than what they were last year. Last year, this was probably one of, if not the worst offensive lines out there. This year, they’re at least capable enough up front. And with Drake May’s playmaking ability and pocket presence, he he’s doing a good enough job to to surround him and and get the job done on that offensive line. So, all in all, the offense is pretty darn fun and they’re pretty good. Now, on the defensive side of things here, you know, Christian Gonzalez has been dealing with an injury, so it’s kind of tough to to gauge how good this defense is because I think Christian Gonzalez is, frankly, probably their best defensive player, but when he has been out there, I think he’s doing a really good job. Carlton Davis is obviously being thrusted into a bigger role when Gonzalez is out there. Now, he’s going to step into more of that CB2 role, which is where I think he is, you know, better suited at. So, right now, he has a 54.9 overall PFF grade, but I think it’ll start to get better as time does go on. You got Duggar at safety. You got Woodson there, too. I think they’re playing fine. I think that is definitely a position you could look to fix in the future. Spain has been really good for this team. I I told you guys when they got him in for agency, this was going to be somebody that just eats up tackles. And so far on the year, he leads the team in total tackles with 51. He’s got 30 solo tackles, a sack on the year, a tackle for loss, an interception, and a force fumble. Like, this is kind of a do-it-all linebacker. Far from perfect. He can definitely be better in coverage, but I mean like a tackle eater, that’s what you’re going to get in this guy. You know, Harold Landry leads the team in sacks with four and a half. You got Milton Williams with two and a half. Clayon Chaon with two and a half, and Robert Splain with a sack, too. I would say the additions you brought in this off season so far have paid dividends for this defense. Is this defense the best defense in the NFL? No. But they’ve held teams in check, even teams that are, you know, pretty good on the offensive end. Like Las Vegas in week one scored 20, but since then Miami scored 27, Pittsburgh 21, Carolina 13, Buffalo the best offense you’ll play for basically the entire season, only 20. And then this past week, 19. You look at the numbers, they’re seventh in opponent’s points per game, 16th in opponent’s yards per game, eighth in opponent’s touchdowns per game. They got to be better on third down and they got to be better in the red zone. They’re 21st in opponent third down conversion rate and 30th in the red zone. Got to clean that up. But they’re pretty good against the run. They got to improve against the past, but of course Christian Gonzalez is there. I think that’s definitely going to help them out. So, when you look at this defense, like again, they have issues they’re going to have to fix in future drafts and free agencies. I think they might need a little bit more depth in the pass rush unit. They might need some help in the secondary. And just all around, there’s things that you would like to see be shed up in future years. But for now, for what this team is today, they’re they’re good defensively. Not great. They’re not great, but they’re good. They are a top 17 16 defense in the NFL. I wouldn’t say top 10. I definitely wouldn’t say top eight or anything like that. But if you tell me, hey, this Patriots defense is like the 12th best. Sure. I I think they might be right there. And again, kind of like what I said on the offensive end, this is the worst this defense is going to be. You’re going to get better in the future. You’re going to be able to add more and more pieces and continue to push this team to that next level. So, take that as you will. But let us now transition over to talking about the Patriots schedule because let me tell you guys, this schedule is very, very easy. In fact, I would say they faced probably two of their tougher opponents already on their schedule in Pittsburgh and in Buffalo. But when you look forward in their schedule, if they have the Titans next week, then they have the Cleveland Browns. I’m going to assume they’re going to beat those teams because those are two of the worst teams in the NFL. So through eight games, you’re probably going to be six and two, barring a banana slip or anything like that. You get two tough games in a row in week nine and 10 between the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If you go one and one in that stretch, I think that’s a W because then that puts you what, seven and three through 10 games, assuming you lose to either Atlanta or Tampa Bay. But even if you lose both those football games, you’re 6 and four and still feeling pretty good cuz the rest of their schedule is really light. Because after that, in weeks 11, 12, and 13, you got the Jets, the Bengals, who will probably be without Jurro Joe Burrow again, and then the Giants in week 13. The Giants are feisty. That might be a tough one, but I still think the Patriots can win that game. So, let’s assume they beat those bad football teams. And let’s just hypothetically say they lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If they only have one loss through week 13, that’s going to put them at a 10 and3 football team heading into their buy. But let’s just say they they they lose to the Giants or the Falcons. So, they lose four games heading into the by-week. That puts you at nine and four heading into the by-week with only four games left. And realistically speaking, you just need to win two of those next four games to make the playoffs. And when you look at the next four games after their bye-week, it’s Buffalo, who you’ve already proven you can beat. It’s Baltimore, who I think will be better by that point cuz they’ll at least have Lamar, but they got a lot of questions they got to figure out. So that game could be kind of interesting. And then you got the Jets and then the Miami Dolphins to finish off their season. Division games are always dicey, but I think they can beat them. So, I’m looking at this team and at its best with this schedule, I think they could be a 13-4 team, but at their worst, I think 11-6. And that’s just at their worst. Now, maybe 10 and seven might be a bit more realistic cuz I’m sure they’ll slip up here and there, but again, we’re talking about a double-digit football team that last year was drafting what, like a top five pick. In one year, in one year of changing the head coach, developing your quarterback, being aggressive in free for agency and successfully drafting well, you’re looking at a team that goes from drafting what, the fifth overall pick or something last year to making the playoffs. If this team wins double digit games, they will be in the playoffs. And I’ll tell you what, I don’t think they’re going to win a Super Bowl or anything like that this year. I don’t think any team would want to face them. If I’m a team like let’s say the Jacksonville Jaguars if they make the playoffs do I want to face the Patriots? No. If I’m even like a Kansas City, do I want to face a team like the Patriots? Probably not. They’re scrappy and they’re feisty and they can absolutely go. Now it’s playoff football. I don’t know if they’d win a playoff game, but I’m sure as hell they’re going to fight and bite and claw their way to staying in those games. Drake May makes me feel very excited about this football team. And then in the future, like as I keep saying throughout the video, this team is just going to get better. They have more money to spend because they have a rookie quarterback on a very cheap deal. They’re going to have future draft capital to keep adding young assets. This is a young football team with a developing quarterback, developing offensive line. Hell, there’s some guys defensively that are still developing, that are still just going to get better. So, as the years progress, this team will just get better and better and better. And shoot, I hate to say it, but I think this Patriots team is heading down a path that’s going to be quite successful yet again. Now, I’m not going to say this is Tom Brady 2.0 and we’re going to see a dynasty in New England again. But I look at this team and I do think they are set up for success. They’re a young football team with money to spend with a quarterback that is quickly proving that he is not just a guy, but he is a stud. And you have a head coach that has a track record of getting teams into the playoffs even when they are in a talent deficiency. Look at those Titans teams. They were good. They were far from great. And they were still making fairly good playoff runs. So, there’s a lot to look forward to if you are a Patriots fan. Patriots fans are some of the most spoiled fans in the NFL because they had all those great years of Tom Brady. Then they sucked for a few years. They cried their ass off. Now they get Drake May and all of a sudden we’re like, well, they’re right back where they were with Tom Brady. At least it feels like they are. So, look, they’re they’re four and two through six weeks. Their schedule is super light. This team is looking like they will probably end up making the playoffs. And what a turnaround it would be if they get to that point. But you guys let me know in the comments section below. What are your thoughts of this Patriots team this year and in the future? 1. It's only year 2 for Drake Maye and only time will tell how he'll play throughout his career. Also, the team just need to build and add talent around him, that way they'll become scary good!

  2. Coming into this season, I knew for a fact that the Pats were gonna be one of the surprises in the NFL. I predicted them to go 10-7 and make the Wild Card, but sheesh right now first place in the AFC East. They are really going overachieving my expectations 😮

  3. He didn't look like Josh Allen at all he looked like Drake Maye!!! I can't stand people saying "Josh Allen like". Stop comparing them! Drake Maye is his own person with his own play style and he's proving it.

  4. It’s not a given that this is going to any Maye’s worst team . A lot of the players they brought in are already older . They could be in a situation next off-season where they have to replace. Moses , Diggs , Bradbury , plus
Stevenson, that’s a lot to replace in One season and it’s great. I’m excited about Maye but we can’t pretend the Patriots can all of a sudden draft the skill position. We’ve still seen almost nothing from Kyle Williams and Henderson. If you don’t start hitting on your draft picks, you’re going to struggle I mean the draft should be where you get the majority of your talent. We’re like the only team that can’t get a usable player in the top 38 picks of a draft.

  5. how is Henderson still not the lead back. he played good in pre season and Stevenson has been a bad rusher and has lost them games with fumbles. Is the run game not like one of there only problems why wouldn’t they try to change something up. Can’t wrap my head around this

  6. Yeah I’m Very High On This Team Moving Forward As Well, Would Love To See Them Use Kyle Williams & Efton Chism More In The Passing Game And TreVeyon Henderson In The Run Game, But They Still Do Enough On Offense to Win Games, I Think With A Few More Additions This Team Will Be A Legit Contender Next Season…..

  7. It cannot be overstated how important it was that they, seemingly, hit on 3 straight first round picks on arguably the 3 hardest positions in CB, QB, LT.

Building blocks of a future championship caliber team

  8. As a patriots fan im super excited what im seeing, drake maye looks like hes going to be fucking awesome already showing amazing arm talent and pocket presence. Needs to slow his feet but he does the allen mahommes pull plays out your ass. I love this kid an he only has played about 16 games. We have a bright future with him and mike vrable

  9. In Maye’s 1st season he basically had the worst O-line, WR group, and head coach in the league. But he still looked good for a rookie even though they didn’t get many wins. I think for a lot of rookie QBs that bad situation would have wrecked them. But he stayed positive the whole time, kept improving, and now this year after some roster improvements he’s on fire

  10. There in 1st I know it's early. But I know it's early. Know one wanted to come here. Last year and this year. If they win another game or two. People will want to come here.
