Jets’ Justin Fields ready to be aggressive, feels like he’s been ‘too conservative’

  1. Actually throwing the ball on passing plays would be a great start. If Engstrand can get Fields firing on all cylinders maybe he’ll improve to -3 passing yards this week

  2. I’m glad it only took a third of the season haha. But ya, if he can back it up that’d be cool…let’s just go for positive yards this time. Baby steps

  3. Nothing like becoming aggressive and throwing the ball when our WR 1 is Allen Lazard.

  4. Watch us go on an 11-game winning streak after we’ve all canceled our season tickets.

  5. Fields needs to run. It’s his best asset. he’s been trying way too hard to be a pocket QB. He should be taking every 5-7 yard run he has. Force the D to honor that then take you shots

  6. Why was Fields benched for Russell Wilson? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8DZsbN5xkc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8DZsbN5xkc)

He misses reads too many times. He checks down when he doesn’t have to. He holds the ball too long and takes terrible sacks. I don’t want to watch bad QB play any more. I want to watch at least competent play. Put in Tyrod Taylor. Actively trying to lose games is not something this team should be doing. They need to learn how to win. As fans we are sick of losing and I can only imagine what the players feel like.

  7. At this rate he’s playing for his NFL career. He plays like this the jets draft someone. Probably sign another veteran on a one year to be the bridge. Since he is so bad media and fan pressure would ask for the rookie if he’s ready or not . And he’s the third stringer behind probably Tyrod and a rookie.

  8. I still believe in Fields.

Carolina is a relatively bad defense, let’s just start with a good performance against them and go on from

The Broncos are the strongest defensive team in the league. Yes, Fields was terrible but we’re not going to play a defensive line like that again this year

  9. God you people are whiny. Yes, he played like trash. No, it hasn’t been a good season. What do you want him to say though? “Yeah I think I’ll be more conservative.” Get pissy reading this all you want but also consider not being such a baby

  10. Itll result in more INT but its better to go through the process of mistakes and failures where you potentially develop and overcome them vs doing nothing. Doing nothing or avoiding passing only covers up the issue and you still don’t grow. Winning 4 games and keeping the score closer while making zero developmental progress is potentially worse than going winless. Gotta think long term. Granted, everyone including the front office are already scouting QB prospects.

  11. I don’t know if aggressive is the right word. I’d say besides being more accurate and getting through his reads quicker, Justin Fields needs to be more decisive and willing to take the easy throw when it’s there instead of holding the ball looking for the big play. That’s really important this week without Garrett Wilson. Short, quicker throws will work well with Arian Smith( not just deep throws) and can turn into big plays like what KC does with Worthy.

  12. Thank goodness we’re going to start trying now.

Just in time to lose the first overall pick.

  13. It took one of the most embarrassing performances of all time to get this guy to start being “aggressive” lol

  14. Well. Either he all of a sudden figures out what he needs to do as an nfl qb or move on to Tyrod please.

  15. This guy needs to do a 2 second countdown and if no one is open just book it down the field. He’s wasting too much time standing there not seeing anyone open

  16. One question for folks here because I’m still trying to figure this out.

Wtf happened in week one? I saw a Justin Fields who was passing up opportunities to run for passes. And it was working. He looked crisp and on point with his throws. Hell the least play of the game, I think people were mad he didn’t run!

So what changed. What made him so much more willing to pass the ball in that game? Is the Steelers secondary that bad?

  17. Was that lack of ‘aggression’ preventing him from spotting and throwing to wide open receivers?

Was it preventing him from stepping up into the pocket rather than spinning out into a DE?

Was it preventing him from going to his second read rather than straight to the checkdown?

Was it preventing him from changing his footwork to lead him through his reads so he doesn’t have to do a less accurate off platform throw?

It might help him pull the trigger on anticipating a receiver on their break and throw it on time.. but we will have to see.

  18. I think if he actually threw the ball that the offense would be pretty good. Occasional mistakes are fine if you can make big plays. Let the man run the read option more as well. This run-first offense stuff only works if you’re up in games.

He should be used like he’s Lamar or Josh Allen, having designed runs, tush push, and letting him take deep shots, not a pocket passer that only throws flat routes.

We signed a running quarterback just to use him like he’s 50 year old Joe Flacco, it makes no sense.

  19. He doesn’t throw the ball because he can’t throw the ball. How many clean pocket throws that go to a wide open Garrett Wilson 5 yards away that are just awful do we have to see before people realize it.

I don’t want him to play aggressive I want him to make league appropriate timed decision making to find the wide open recievers he has failed to find consistently. I am happy he is not forcing the ball but I am upset that he is failing to find the routes that are wide open when he has a clean pocket because he doesn’t know his progressions.

  20. Well, this is all very reassuring. I am confident that everything will be just fine.

Now can we please sell this organization, whose principal work seems to be to take good or promising football players and make them bad?

We have seen quite enough now.

  21. This is why defensive head coaches are bad for developing QBs. All they preach is don’t turn the ball over, don’t make it difficult for the defense. All they know is defense, they scare these QBs into not making mistakes and don’t lean into their abilities. Fields has no INT on the season, but also is straight bad. This just reminds me of Baker and Darnold. Around bad coaching forever and once they got a coach to tell them to sling it and let it ride. They started blossoming.

Obviously Fields could just be terrible. But we got nothing to lose, let him along it like he did back in college. I don’t understand the obsession with NFL teams drafting a QB in college watching them throw and run. Then coming to the NFL and telling that QB. Don’t do any of that stuff that made you successful, do this instead. Stupid. Just bad advice/coaching (usually from defensive head coaches)
