Oct. 11: Postgame Interviews
Jiggy, how did that one feel tonight? You guys kind of got to your game in this second game here. Yeah, it felt good. Um, you know, you could see it coming. The first couple periods we had some shifts where we were building and getting some looks that we wanted and um, you know, second period came out a little flat. Um, you know, Hol made some huge saves, tucks with the fight and um, you know, that really brought the emotion to our team and and we carried that the rest of the way. Wanted to ask you about Ho. Uh, his obviously his first game of the season, but that second period like a lot of lot of saves there that kind of got you guys going. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, we’re so confident in him. I think the the hockey world’s starting to realize what a goal he is and um you know, he’s capable of making those saves night in night out and and we know that. We understand that. We can’t rely on him to make those saves, but um you know, when we do have collapses, we know you know him or Ben or whoever’s in the net is is going to be there to try and bail us out and Hope did that tonight. Take us through your first goal. Um yeah, just a great counter. I don’t know if it was fouls or or Perry, but got it up to Buchcci really fast and then um you know Buchcci into Tommer, he pulls up like he always does, finds me late and just tried to take it to the cage. So the second goal, yeah, it was just a bang bang play. How how’d you get in the right position to tip that? Yeah, I mean I saw Tmer going low to high and um you know I know Beast is always always ready to pound it. So um that’s my job when I’m playing with those guys when I’m playing with anybody is is get to the net, get in front of the goalie, make it hard on them and uh you know I can’t say that with skill on the tip. Uh it’s you can’t even see the puck when it comes off Perry’s stick. So, just a lucky one off the road. Yeah. And how emotional was it seeing as you grew up, you know, just in, you know, Calgary. Like, how emotional was this game for you? Yeah. Uh, first time I’ve scored here in the NHL. So, it was pretty special. And, um, you know, yeah, just special having my family and friends here and um, being able to perform for them, get a win in front of them is uh, really nice. How’d that one feel out there for you tonight? Kind of get get a lot more of your game than you did Thursday night. Yeah, it was good. Um, yeah, the boys battled hard. Uh, it was a greasy road win. Um, you know, after our after our our last game, we we didn’t like how we played. So, it was a huge bounce back for us and um yeah, hopefully keep this momentum going. How are you seeing the puck there in the second period, it looked like you had a lot of big uh big saves to get the boys going. Yeah, just trying my best to uh to stop the puck out there. Um yeah, just battling and uh luckily a couple hit me. So, uh yeah, it was a it was a fun night. Fun to see Jake Neighbors uh in the second period get light a spark and and fire everyone up there. Yeah, man. So special for him. Um yeah, just uh you know, so proud of him. He’s he’s been through a lot lately and um you know, he’s a huge part of our team and um you know, we couldn’t be more happy to have him. Monty, uh how about that effort you got from uh over there in the second period. They gave you a nice jump start. Unreal. Um you know, we think we have a very good team and a big part of that confidence we have as a group going into this season is because of our, you know, two really talented goalenders and Ho showed it today. Um, and after, you know, the amazing saves he made, uh, we got to our game a little bit better, especially offensively. And the emotion that like guys like Jake Neighbors brought to our bench and the big saves and the fight by Tucker, you know, it elevated our emotion which brought out our character and we started to play with a lot more pace and purpose. I wanted to ask you about Jake Neighbors. Big goal there in the second period to get guys going, but another one later, just the effort from him and and what he brought tonight. I mean, he was really tenacious. It’s his hometown, you know, and he’s had a a really good friend pass away, so it was an emotional moment for him, not just because it’s his hometown, but, you know, he’s been dealing with um a little bit of loss, you know, and that’s not easy. Uh but he’s a tremendous character kid. Someone that I’m sure will wear wear a letter here one day. Um penalty kill got a lot of work tonight. What did you like about what those guys were able to do? Well, both games I’ve liked our penalty kill. I think we’re running straight lines. Um, you know, everybody knows their responsibility. Four guys are moving together when it’s time to pressure and four guys are protecting uh the most important parts of the ice when we’re not in a pressure situation. And did that feel like did that feel like you were um you’re able to get to your game here uh versus Thursday night? Do you get a lot more to your game? Oh, we have a lot more to get to. It’s early in the year, but you know, the emotion got us through uh this game tonight, I found. Um, you know, but execution and second and third effort on pucks is an area where we still got to get better. How about Rob Thomas and his game? He had that great shot to get you guys going. Yeah, I mean, he set up the first goal with a great pass. You know, that’s, you know, what number one centers do in this league. And, you know, to not mention the amount of penalty kill minutes that he did for us as well.
